Speaker 1 (00:00):
John chapter ten, Verse ten, Jesus said, the thief cometh
not but four to steal and to kill, and to destroy.
I am come that they might have life, and that
they might have it more abundantly. Let's pray together, Father
in heaven, thank you for Jesus. Thank you for the
eternal life that we have in Jesus, and thank you
(00:22):
for the abundant life right now that we can enjoy
because of our relationship with Jesus Christ. Thank you that
the Christian life is a life filled with love and joy,
and peace and patience, and kindness and goodness and gentleness
and faithfulness and self control. Lord, that we would avail
ourselves to the wonderful life you have for us and
(00:44):
experience the fullness that you died to give us even
this day, for we pray in Jesus name. Amen. Hi, friends,
Welcome to this episode of the Weekly Wisdom podcast from
pray dot Com. I'm Pastor Jeff Shreeve from texar Cana, Texas,
and this week we're going to talk about the life
(01:04):
and purpose God has for you and me. In John
ten ten, Jesus said, I came that they might have
life and might have it abundantly. You see, the Christian
life is the best life of all. It's not a
life of misery and unhappiness and drudgery and boredom. It's
a life overflowing with the good things of God. It's
(01:27):
a life of excitement, a life of blessing, a life
of joy. But sadly, so many people fail to understand
this and they fail to experience it. And because so
many people have a warped view of Christianity, they miss
out on the wonderful life Jesus wants them to have.
The truth is, the Christian life is not something you
(01:48):
have to endure. It's something you get to enjoy. It's
not designed to be a great burden. It's designed to
be a great blessing. It's not like taking bad tasting
mesas us and to get well. It's a marvelous walk
with the King of Kings and Lord of lords. Now,
Jesus came that we might have life, and the life
(02:10):
he came to give us is both eternal and abundant.
The eternal side of things means that it never ends,
and when we receive Jesus as Lord and Savior, we
are given at that moment the gift of eternal life.
Don't get the idea that eternal life is something you
get when you die. Eternal life is something you get
(02:31):
the moment you believe. It's a life of the Lord
that lasts forever and ever and ever, and it's received
by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. It
is not as a result of works, lest anyone should boast. Hey,
do you have eternal life? Have you trusted Jesus as
your savior and Lord? If not, you can do it
(02:53):
today simply by calling out to him in repentance and faith.
But I said there were two aspects to the life
he came to bring us. It's not only eternal life.
It's also abundant life. It's a life that's overflowing with
the fruit of the spirit, with love and joy and
peace and patience, and kindness and goodness and faithfulness and
(03:15):
gentleness and self control. Now, the abundant life is not
achieved through self help, self effort, or self righteousness. Now,
it's something that comes when we yield ourselves to Jesus
and we set him apart as Lord, master and boss
in our hearts. You see, no one can live the
Christian life in his own strength. Jesus said apart from me,
(03:38):
you can do nothing. We have to live the Christian
life surrendered to the lordship of Christ. And when he
sits on the throne of our hearts, then the abundance
begins to flow. Now. In John ten ten, Jesus tells
us that the thief, the devil, comes only to steal,
kill and destroy. The devil is the enemy of our souls.
(04:02):
He hates God and the people of God. And he
doesn't want you and me to experience eternal life or
abundant life. He wants to keep us from knowing Jesus
and experiencing the fullness of Jesus. He wants to fill
your life, my life with despair and discouragement and destruction.
But he's a liar and the father of lives. He's
(04:24):
been a murderer from the beginning. So as believers in
the Lord Jesus, we must resist the devil by faith.
We must put on the full armor of God so
we can stand firm against the schemes of the devil.
We must bring our lives out of the shadows of
deceit and walk in the light with Jesus, and we
deal with our sins the Lord's way. We must be
(04:46):
doers of the word and not merely hearers who delude themselves.
Jesus said, if you know these things, you are blessed
if you do them. The blessing is not in the knowing,
it's in the doing. As we do what the Lord
says to do, we experience a life live by faith
and not by sight. As you walk through your week,
(05:08):
remember that we really do have an adversary, an enemy
who wants to destroy us. But we also truly have
a God who loves us and wants what's best for us,
a God who is faithful and true. So let's stand
firm in our faith and live our Christian lives to
the full, all for His glory. Let's pray, Dear God,
(05:31):
thank you for the life that you've given me in Jesus.
It is eternal and it is abundant. And thank you
for giving me your Holy spirit. Lord, help me to
live out my Christian life to the fool. I don't
want to listen to the voice of the thief, the
devil and walk by sight. I want to listen to
you Lord and walk by faith all to your glory.
(05:52):
And I pray this in Jesus' name. Amen. Thank you
