Speaker 1 (00:17):
My sweet potato. Come here, right now, come right here
in your subtle pants.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
You look beautiful, honey, Thank you, you really do.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
We were just talking about how what it's like growing
up with a famous parent, and I saw this delightful, delightful, lucky, literally.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
What the life I gave you.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
It's true, it's true, and still it's true. But what
if this takes off? Then maybe like I.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Will give it back to you that probably I will
never see that. But I'm not saying that it won't
take off, saying how much. I'm not going no, no, no,
I'm not talking about the volume of what we've given you,
which would take lifetimes. But I'm talking about anything. I'm
talking about like a latte.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
There's really no podcast with a mother and a daughter.
I think it's such an interesting really really, I mean
I don't know. I haven't really ever looked you haven't
researched that properly. No, but I really don't. I don't
like think that there is, or at least not one
that any of my friends listen to. Honestly, I feel
like it's such a gift. And when we did Kate
and Allie's podcast and they were talking to us about
(01:27):
how special it is that they have that time together
as brother and sister, Like how amazing it is for
you and I as mother daughter to have this time
together where we just get to talk, and how great
to be able to share it the good, the bad,
and the ugly. Yeah, the good, the bad, and the ugly.
And also just so many people ask us, you know, like,
what's it like growing up with your dad? Or I
(01:48):
guess not for you, he's not your dad, but like
your husband, And it's true, it is I never know
the right thing to say, so now we can just say,
you know what, I have such a great idea. Listen
to my podcast and you'll hear everything. But when I
think about it, I think it is almost impossible because
we were trying to make life as normal as possible.
(02:12):
Daddy had your chores. It was all very kind of
well constructed and planned to be as normal as possible,
but the reality wasn't remotely normal. So it was a
big doublement. And like, you guys could treat us normally,
(02:33):
but if the outside world doesn't treat us normally, then
it's like which way do you go?
Speaker 2 (02:38):
You know?
Speaker 1 (02:38):
And I'm so lucky because I feel like all three
of us, Me, my two brothers. We all are I mean,
we have like weird things, but we're pretty normal, you know.
Like we are, you know, very into being members of
society that give back and do good and work and
have jobs. And it could go either way. So I
really think, like, because I've seen other people who grew
(03:00):
up similarly who just sort of like don't know how
to get out of that identity and just then like
lose their identity. Do you know what I'm saying, Yes,
totally listen, I get it. It's it's a very interesting
thing because I like to be private, and my identity
(03:21):
after marrying Daddy was bizarre because I would skirt around
the back or do it was not comfortable for me.
I kept picturing people's It just was weird. It just
(03:41):
felt strange. It's like the good news and the bad
news at the same time. But you can't complain about
it because it's a wonderful thing on but it does
put stresses and pressure and people kind of already have
an idea about who you are right before they met. Well,
(04:01):
you went, you walk into a room, you don't know
anyone in the room, but they already know something and
they know personal things, right, you know. I when I
had breast cancer, I was I wanted to be open
about it because you guys were young and whatever. I mean,
not so young. I was young, but I wanted to
just be open about it. But then it was also
(04:25):
something that strangers knew, which was okay, but it took
getting used to right that I didn't have my own
kind of private life, right, No, I get that different thing. Yeah,
it's a totally different thing. But for me, all the
opportunities I got I really took advantage of and I
(04:47):
was really grateful for them, and they really helped me,
and I feel like I definitely use them. Dad was
asking me about the bus and I went on the
bus and right after the concert they were like, do
you want to come with us to Milwaukee. You're talking
about the Backstreet Boys. Yeah, and I said okay. It
was me and Lisa and we said okay. So we
got on the bus and we drove from Madison to Milwaukee,
(05:09):
which is like not a long drive at all, And
that means, like, in the language of our grandchildren, you
were there for one sleep. I didn't sleep there. I
didn't sleep. Oh maybe I slept there actually for one night,
but I don't even think they paid for my room,
which I thought was annoying. So I went on a bus.
(05:29):
Then we got to the Fista Hotel, which I had
heard was which actually stay there dad when Daddy got
his micro statue the Bronze Fund. Then, yeah, he stayed there, remember,
And I was like, oh, I was here at the
Backstreet Boys, but apparently it's haunted, so I didn't want
to stay. They like didn't really like I couldn't tell
if they really wanted us there. I couldn't tell if
that guy Nick he didn't, I don't know. He blonde, Yeah,
(05:53):
he was blonde, and Lisa made out with him, but
I don't remember anything else about it, Like there was
no one else there really was just first for him,
perhaps this first kiss. But we went, I mean, we
were very into it. We were very excited. We tried
to get on the Dave Matthews band bus too, but
they honestly don't know, don't don't They didn't us back,
(06:16):
but you know, perfect time. I mean they only probably
you know. Yeah, it was great, and then we left.
I don't even remember how we got home because there
were no ubers. Then it was like nineteen ninety nine, Zoe,
you hijacked every cab company in Madison, Wisconsin. There were
so many weird movies. Really. When we came to visit
(06:41):
you in Wisconsin for the first Parents weekend, and I
mean you had already been expelled from taxi service. Yeah,
they were famous. They banned me from taxis. People used
to put notes under my door in my dorm. Yes,
and then they asked you us story on me in
the paper and I was like, I just want to
(07:02):
be anonymous here. Yeah, they're so upset. Remember, and then
you never taught me how to use a checkbook ever,
that's a fact. So my face was all over Madison,
Wisconsin because I bounced checks in every single location and
they wouldn't let me. Here is why you bounce, okay,
because you didn't add and subtract. Well, I didn't know
(07:24):
you had to do that, mom. No one ever taught
me how to balance a check book. That was the
first one i'd ever written. Batman in the bank with
you what man? When we went to move you into
your dorm, we met the guy at the bank when
you opened. Nobody spoke to me about budgeting. So it's
like you guys complain, but honestly, there's only one person
(07:45):
to blame you, just.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
God.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
Like I have to go to the Tornado Room for dinner,
I had to have steak dinners. I wouldn't eat in
the thing, no was in the food or whatever beyond.
And I got friendly with every single person. Oh that's
because one time, one time I hung up. I hung
up on you. You were being mean and I hung
up on you. I was probably saying that you had
(08:15):
bounced several checks. That's probably what I got upset. So
I hung up on you and I went downstairs and
the woman at the front desk was like, Zoe, call
your mom. And I was like, oh fine. And then
I went to the pharmacy to pick up my anti
anxiety medicine and whatever my SSRI was at the time,
and they were like, oh, are you Zoe call your mom?
(08:36):
And then I went to like the restaurant and they
were like, are you Zoe call your mom? You'd called
every location in Madison's. Thank god you weren't in New
York City and college would take them way longer. I
went to Marshall Fields and they were like, call your mom.
I'm not kidding. Well, this was a fun. First one,
(08:58):
is it over?
Speaker 2 (08:59):
It's over?
Speaker 1 (09:00):
What do you think didn't just fly? Time flew because
we were having he did great you did? I know?
I love you so much. I love you all right,
