Speaker 1 (00:01):
We saw a return of Roman Rains on Monday. I
thought it was kind of an interesting going in to
that show that there the rock wasn't advertised. Obviously, he
wasn't there seen. It wasn't advertised. It's Madison Square Garden.
This is even if it's a house show. You see
brock Lester show above too, right, And so they waited
till the very end, and we finally got to see

(00:22):
who the big surprise was, because you figured there might
be one, even if it's a dark match after it
was on TV, there's got to be somebody, and it
was Roman Rains And what a way I love. They
didn't play any music, he didn't hit the music and
he came down the ramp. I didn't hear people screaming.
And I saw some fan footage seeing him come out
from from behind Gorilla and the screens and come up

(00:42):
that little side there and uh and jump the railing.
Does this set things up for you for a triple fit?
He has to write.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
Maybe you know, there's there's indications that say that's where
that's going. I'm waiting to see the story that would
be in that seems a little bit like low hanging
fruit for me, So I'm kind of waiting to see
how it shapes up.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
What makes more sense is something with Roman, with Roman
and Rolins after the curb stomps three or whatever he
did at where was that not Elimination Chamber? Oh it
was Royal rumble. Oh yeah, it's royal rumble. When the
one on the ground actually looked nasty, like he lost
his footing and actually stepped on his head and then

(01:27):
he did the stomp on the stairs. But I could
see that being a feud seeing all three of them,
maybe maybe that's the favor.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
Maybe potentially, It's hard to guess it because because to
your point, Seth Punk makes sense, Seth Reins makes sense,
but the three of them seems like it's converging in
storylines because Punk wasn't around for all the Bloodline stuff.

(01:56):
He had a little bit of a beef with Roman,
you know, around the Survivor series time, but he's really
not affected by roman reigns over the last years. So again,
I think it could. I mean, it's a box office match.
It's three of your most heavy hitters you know in
the company right now, all in a massive match. It's
going to be good. But is it going to have.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
The why at the why. Yeah, that is what we
always look for, and where you have consistent stories that
roll there, at least more recently and definitely more than
the others will say. You have a lot more storylines
and a lot more whys happening in WWE. So this
one kind of stands out when you see that there's
not a definite why of why all three of them
should be in the ring together. You brought up Survivor Series. Yes,

(02:41):
they had a little beef at Survivor Series, but the
team together too, and they won the match and then
they all everybody raised a one, and of course Punk
did the sleep yes, and that just looked like happy
go lucky when it was all said and done. So
where this beef comes in with Roman reigns and see
them Punk? I have to tell something pretty quick because

(03:01):
we're only I mean, we're just over a month away
from night number one of WrestleMania.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
That's insane.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
I can't believe that we were just there a year ago.
We were just there, not in Las Vegas, in Philly,
but yes, this time last year we were.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
Like, okay, Vegas over Philly, if I'm.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
Honest, Yeah, yeah, No, offense Philly, but Vegas. Yeah, yeah,
probably should, although it's still a beef with me, will
be until it's done, and it probably still will be
a beef with me afterwards. That you're doing it on
Easter weekend, that's just that's a travesty. I mean, you
can't go to Sinn City on Easter weekend.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Yeah, that's right. I mean maybe the maybe the airfares
nice and low.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
It could be nice and low. I've been seeing some
you know, in another another piece of my profession, I
work with some stuff in Vegas for a syndicated show
that I work on as an executive producer, and we
do a lot with font and Blue and that's where,
of course I'm not going this year, and that's where

(04:06):
the Hall of Fame is going to be. It's also
they did a post of joint post on Instagram the
official hotel of WrestleMania forty one. I'm like, yeah, of
course it is. Of course it is, and I'm not
going this year. I work with you guys, but I'm
not going this year. So yeah, a little bitter about
a couple of things. Is this my chance to kind
of sort through some of that? You know what grinds

(04:28):
my gears, one of my buddies. On another podcast, he
has a segment called what pisses Brandon off? Because you know,
stuff like this on every single one enough it's something
to go off on. Yeah. Absolutely, it will be interesting
to see what they did. Great cage match. You know,
I've always hated the premise that you could escape the

(04:48):
cage to win the match, so you can run away
from the fight and win. That makes zero sense to me.
Pan the guy submitting, and just the whole point is
not to let anybody else in. And I also of
wondered if they really even had were they at the
place and had a feud going where they typically would have,
you know, people separating them or run ins on one

(05:10):
guy or the other. So they had to put it
in a cage so nobody else can you know, get
to the match and they settle it in the ring.
I didn't feel like this had that either, but it
I mean, just to say you had a cage match
Madison Square Garden as the main event, that's just kind
of cool. You don't really need a why on that, right?

Speaker 2 (05:27):
Yeah, it really is. And again to jump on the
cage match bashing wagon, I almost think it's something that
like happened accidentally, because if you look at old school
cage matches, there was no door, like it was just
the fourth the fourth, yes, yeah, it was just the
four like a thick broad iron whatever that that enclosed

(05:48):
the ring. And then I'm assuming at some point as
wrestling became more serious or like, you know, if somebody
somebody gets hurting there, how are we gonna quickly get
to him. Well, let's just put a door on it. Well,
now we got to explain the door, so you can
leave if you'll walk through it, okay, And then it
just stuck and nobody's ever changed it.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Yeah, at least what I grew up watching, they did
have a door because it was a big, big moment
for carry Van Eric getting hit in the head with
the door by Terry Gordy in World Class. So when
that if that before then they didn't have it. You're
exactly right. I don't remember seeing them on the big
Blue cage.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
Though, right right, Yeah, I don't remember because because there
for a while before it became like a popular thing,
there are a few different styles that the different territories
would use, and I remember I don't know who it
was but somebody had a cage that looked like it
came straight out of like tract or Supply it was.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
Just someone's backyard. Is where that came from.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
Maybe I downloaded that on LimeWire or something. I don't know,
totally could.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
Have one of those backyard wrestlings. Maybe it was the
backyard fence because it was in the backyard. Cody's promos.
He came back Monday, and he came back Friday, and
he came back Monday. He's on SmackDown, but he was
on both shows this week cutting promo to no one
but us. And the first one was the one that
I had some higher expectations for that I personally didn't

(07:08):
feel like it met any particular reason. Not really. It
just I just think that that feuds better when the
guy you're talking to is in the ring, or at
least in the building. And maybe that's some of the
disconnect for me. For Let's start with Friday, though, the
one that I was just mentioning deliver for you.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
I would like to speak all my thoughts in one go,
so I'll.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
Do it all together. That's fine.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
I will defer to you for Friday, and then i'll
catch up on the back end of Monday Friday.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
That I'll give you both of mine Friday. That's the
one I felt was lackluster. The one on on Monday
I felt had some had some a little more passion
behind it, felt like it progressed things maybe a little
bit more. Maybe just because we're closer to when they
will meet, and that'll be next to Monday in Brussels, Belgium,

(08:05):
Is that right? That's raw which will be at two
o'clock in the afternoon for me, three o'clock for you.
I love being able to watch it live. In fact,
I thought about throwing up a VPN to be able
to watch SmackDown coming up on Friday in real time
whenever that happens. But yeah, that is the first time
they're gonna meet. It's on Monday night. Yeah, just coming

(08:27):
up in a couple of days. And I think that
I say they're gonna meet, they're gonna be in the
same building. Of course, they've got a crosspath somewhere. Hope
it's in the ring where we all get to see
and not just day they end up doing a pull
apart backstage that's not in front of people or you know,
that's the whole part about Friday's promo is that I
don't know what's gonna happen on Monday, and I'm already

(08:47):
anticipating it. On last Friday, I didn't I knew it
wasn't gonna go anywhere, and I didn't feel I felt
like Cody kind of felt that too. There's kind of
the end of my ramble on it. How are you
feeling on those.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
I've been lackluster about everything since the night of Elimination Chamber.
And and here's why. Uh, and this, this could potentially
be the first mistake, maybe not something I don't agree with,
but maybe like an actual mistake from you know, the
guy that totally knows what he's doing.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
Okay, yeah, exactly.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
I don't know if you guys know this. This is
my bed. It's not a dedicated room like in an
office building. This is my house and that's my bed.
So anyway, let's where the magic evans. This is a
story that doesn't need a reason to be told. And

(09:47):
there's there's a confrontation that I reference as one of
my most favorite confrontations of all time, centered around a
Russell Maydia feud. Do you remember what that confrontation.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
Is Yeah, it Undertaker and Triple H.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
That's exactly right. And I go back to it a
lot because it's a good lesson in restraint. You have
the Undertaker, first ballot Hall of Famer legend, you have
Triple H, first ballot Hall of Famer legend going in
this year. Exactly what story are you gonna tell? No,
it's just two giant Mount Rushmore personalities, two greats that

(10:28):
are going against each other. It should have been the
same thing here. The story is that John Cena is
a bad guy. Now, Cody doesn't need to get in
the ring and talk about John this and John Matt
and you used to be good. No, it does, it
doesn't matter. I don't care. I it's not that now
is not the time for the John Cena redemption story

(10:49):
That comes later maybe, but it's it's frustrating h to
see them trying to fabricate this story when I've already
I've been in since the moment.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
Exactly. You don't need to convince me.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
So Sena is going to come back. We don't care
what Cody thinks. We don't care that Cody has something
to say. We're not even focused on them to fighting
each other, yet we're focused on why John Why and
Cody coming out and doing these promos I think has
hurt that because it's distracting from the list of priorities
that we should be hitting. The first thing is why

(11:27):
why did John do this? And it doesn't necessarily have
to have anything to do with Cody. It probably has
nothing to do with Cody and everything to do with seventeen.
So wrapping up my rant, I feel like Cody doing
promos over this run. Waiting on John, I think it
was a mistake. I think it would have been better

(11:47):
even for him just to not be present, sell the
beating a little bit more. I know that two weeks
without your your main guys a lot. I get that,
but we did it with brock Lesner for like ten years,
so that's true. So anyway, I wish they would just
let the story breathe. But I also have no reason

(12:09):
to doubt them at this point. So both promos very
lackluster for me. I didn't want to hear from Cody.
I wanted to wait to hear from John and we're
just gonna see where it goes.

Speaker 1 (12:19):
You wanted to wait to hear from John. It looks
like that's gonna come up on Monday. So before I
give you my thoughts, I'm gonna turn the tableside you
And what do you want to hear from John on Monday?

Speaker 2 (12:28):
Ooh, I he's been. He's been so like comic book
superhero like, you know, as a good guy, and I
kind of want to see that as a bad guy.
Part of me wants because it's been twenty years since

(12:51):
we've seen him as a bad guy, for him to
do something that's predictable and stereotypical, like like I've given
my heart, my everything to this company and then I
come back and I'm faced with the disrespect of having
to fight my way into rustle Mania skip that it
should have been handed to me when the from the

(13:12):
moment I said I wanted it, and and just living
in that gray space of reality that like I'm I'm
John Cena. I've done everything for you people. Now I'm
gonna do this for me. I'm doing movies. I want
him to be Hollywood rock reborn, you know, because that's
what it needs. And now they could come out of

(13:35):
left field with something and I'm gonna be totally like
I'll likely be happy with it. Yeah, I think it's
gonna be hard to mess it up if I'm being honest.
But there's that level of man, I accept that that's
cool that they did that, and then there's wow. So
I'm waiting to see if it's hey, this is cool
or wow.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
Here's what i'd like to see. Okay from John Cena
on Monday, I'd like what you just said, which I'm glad.
I'm glad you did because I think it makes even
what I'm about to say maybe a little bit stronger
after hearing what I think what you I think you're
in the majority. Like most people want to hear that.
I want to hear him talk and him do that.

(14:19):
I'd like for him to walk to the ring to
his brand new music. If that's the case, get in
the ring. You're gonna hear people booing and just him
smirk and walk off. What do you want from him?
I want to hear him talk. Well, cool, screw you.
I'm a bad guy. You don't get the opportunity.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
You're so right.

Speaker 1 (14:39):
You don't get to hear me talk. You get to
see me whooped Codis at WrestleMania. Yeah, but don't tell
anybody that just walk out there so you get you
get to pop on the music, You get the feeling,
Oh my gosh, anticipation. What's he gonna say? Walk off? Yeah?
How off? Yeah if you Brussels, Yeah, Brussels. He paid

(15:05):
for it. Oh we get to see We get to
see John Cena come out. He said he hasn't been
a bad guy in twenty years. He's gonna come talk
to it all. We get to hear why he did
that to Cody and then he says, Nah, you don't
get to hear anything from me. You don't deserve it.
Leaves gets back, and I think they should show it.
So on game day this year, they had had something

(15:26):
where they had to do with Kirk kurb Street. He
had to leave early to go to the game, so
they took a camera guy with him and they talked
to him while he drove to the airport, and then
they talked to him while he was in the plane flying.
Show him go to his Bentley, show him go to

(15:49):
his private jet and just look at the camera again
and get in and walk and fly off. That's just
I can't believe I even showed up here. You know,
that whole feeling, just to see what happens. But I
would love to see him just poop poo on everything,
on everybody.

Speaker 2 (16:04):
I have to, I have to break the fourth wall
for a minute, do it. Imagine it being John Cena,
and let's pretend for a minute that that's the plan,
and they know that's the plan. Imagine having to fly
all the way to Brussels.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
Well, he's already over there, isn't he somewhere in Europe?

Speaker 2 (16:25):
Well it's gonna be. It's probably still like a ten
hour flight somewhere it might be. And and your whole
you spend the whole trip knowing that my music's gonna hit.
I'm gonna walk out, I'm gonna smirk, I'm gonna walk
back out, I'm gonna get on my plane and I'm
gonna leave. That's gotta suck, Like, there's gotta be that

(16:46):
part of you that's like, can I please do more
just to make it feel like I did something?

Speaker 1 (16:51):
You brought up brock Lester, He's done less.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
Yeah he has.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
He didn't even go to the ring. He just stayed
up there at the at the jumbo truck and then
walking back through. Saw something on social media this week
that had me scratching my head a little bit, maybe
a little teas here from Britt Baker, older, wiser, hotter.
She from what I understand what I've been reading at

(17:18):
if any of this, it's true she's done with AW
but now she's older, wiser, and hotter. Is it time
for her to go back up to the big leagues
and be a part of WWE again? Now she was
n XT last time. I may have may have popped
on the main roster for something I don't remember, barely
remember in NXT. Definitely remember her from ae W. She

(17:43):
killed it in some of the angles and some of
the stories, especially with their with their ex Adam Cole.
That was one we've talked about here before it started. Man,
this is going to be a great story. And then
this somebody lost the book. We didn't even get to
finish it, and it just went away, and then she
kind of just went away. What did you think about
seeing Britt Baker and WWE again.

Speaker 2 (18:04):
I think there's a lot of potential, and I think
it was just I think I think what we saw
is them taking a decent story, rubbing some talent on
it and turning it into something great. And imagine putting
the machine behind a talent like her. There's been controversial

(18:25):
stuff said about her. Is she difficult to work with,
is she high maintenance? Whatever. Unfortunately, I can't take any
of it at face value. Based on the people that
we're saying it. It seems like if you're if you're
not from Japan and you work for a certain company,

(18:46):
you don't matter. So so I would love to see
somebody like her with the machine really cranking behind her
and see what becomes of it.

Speaker 1 (18:59):
She has an in factor for me, and I don't
know how they didn't see that in NXT, or maybe
they did and that was it got lost in the
shuffle between H and Vance and whatever. But I don't
see how you have watched any amount of her in
ae W and went yeah, I can see why she's much.
She didn't make it, but never once did I I
was like, well, where did she come from? Oh? Yeah,

(19:20):
she's been in NXT for the last three years or whatever.
It had been like, how do you mess that up? Yeah?
Like it's brick Baker. What I would like to do
is maybe look back when you know, in my extra
time to look back, and I know somebody else online
can do this. If you are super into going back
and finding out who she could have beef with that
wasn't NXT when she was there. Now maybe on the

(19:41):
rain roster you have Brick come back to go. Hey,
we never finished this, It's time to finish it right
here the Monday night after Russell maany'd be kind of cool.
We've still got ray Foix out there too. There's so
many just like like the Q is piling up. It
feels like and and the best time for him to
pop on. You know, I can't wait to see those

(20:04):
found this as we I thought we'd do this while
we end this episode. And if you are watching it
right now, thank you so much for being here with
us on YouTube or yeah, YouTube, I think it's someplace
you can watch it. I'm trying to think. Are we
on Spotify? No, we're not. I don't do video on
Spotify through our distributor yet, but we are. If you're

(20:26):
listening on iHeartRadio, app, Apple or Spotify however you're taking
this in, thank you so much. We're also working on
our Twitch and our Discord, so if you go to
wrestle chatpodcast dot com, both of those are up there.
If you're super into discord, super into Twitch, go there.
And we'll start streaming these there for you as well.

(20:47):
Trying to stay up, trying to stay up. I want
to take a look at this right here. I found online.
This is build your full and faction for only ten dollars.
Then you got to roll a four dollar guys, you
got to row a three dollars. It's got a row
two dollar guys and one dollar guys. But they're also
correspond with something vertically as well. Got your powerhouses, you
got your high flyers, your strikers, and your technicians. I'm

(21:11):
going to default to you and let you go first. Here.
See who you're picking. You got ten dollars to spend,
and you only pick four guys. They can't pick multiple
of the same one. I was gonna do. That'd be
a great MANU faction with four stone colds.

Speaker 2 (21:25):
Okay, So before I actually revealed, before I actually reveal
where I want to go with this, clearly whoever built
this is a little bit more of an old school
wrestling fan because there's some bold choices four dollars.

Speaker 1 (21:43):
But I think it was I mean, yeah, I think they.
I wanted to think that maybe they just did the
verticals first, yeah, and then applied dollars to.

Speaker 2 (21:51):
The vertical took priority. Yeah, but that's neither here nor there,
you know, honestly, I.

Speaker 1 (22:05):
It's four guys. And now for those of you just listening,
I'm gonna give you this top row, John Cena, Raymonstereo,
the Undertaker, and Brett Hart they're all four dollars. Second
row is the Rock, Eddie Guerrero, Sean Michaels and Kurt Angle.
They're three bucks. Stone called Steve Austin, Jeff Hardy, Randy Orton,
and Daniel Bryan two dollars. And that's also WWE. That's

(22:27):
not Brian Danielson.

Speaker 2 (22:29):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (22:30):
And then what if you put him on the one dollar?
And then in the last row you got Roman, Reigns,
Rob Van Dam, Seth Rollins and aj Styles and they're
all one dollar.

Speaker 2 (22:43):
All right, here's what I'm gonna do. Okay, I'm gonna
take Rock for three. I'm gonna take Roman for one. Okay,
I'm gonna take.

Speaker 1 (23:03):
This.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
Hold hold on, I gotta I gotta do my math.

Speaker 1 (23:05):
Here, there's four dollars you spent out of the ten.

Speaker 2 (23:09):
I'm gonna take take her for four.

Speaker 1 (23:12):
Okay, two bucks left, and.

Speaker 2 (23:15):
I'm gonna take a j for one and tell you
to keep the change.

Speaker 1 (23:20):
Oh look at you. Okay, there'll be one there.

Speaker 2 (23:24):
So Roman Rock Taker Styles.

Speaker 1 (23:29):
Boy, that's a good that's a good faction for bonus points.
What do you what do you name them?

Speaker 2 (23:38):
Roman rock Taker and Styles. I'm gonna call him the
phenomenal undead bloodline.

Speaker 1 (23:57):
There you go. Love it. Phenomenal. I can hear Michael
Cole saying that now and tripping over all it.

Speaker 2 (24:03):
And somehow still less random than Pure Fusion Collection.

Speaker 1 (24:10):
Oh my gosh, I thought we'd never hear that name again,
and here you are bringing it up.

Speaker 2 (24:14):
To this podcast, bringing it back alive.

Speaker 1 (24:16):
All right. So my four the Rock stone Cold, Randy Orton,
kurd Angle.

Speaker 2 (24:28):
That's that's a different flavor.

Speaker 1 (24:30):
I like it. Rock stone Cold, Randy Orton and curd Angle.
Very interesting getting named could be no hair, don't care,
no hair or goosebumps?

Speaker 2 (24:45):
What?

Speaker 1 (24:47):
Mmm? That didn't fit either off the think.

Speaker 2 (24:53):
Something about or y'all sick? Well? Randy and stone Cold
are both snakes.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
Mm hmmm.

Speaker 2 (25:01):
So there's something they.

Speaker 1 (25:02):
Put that together that's great?

Speaker 2 (25:03):
Uh some joke about a rock and a snake. I
don't I don't, I don't know. I don't know.

Speaker 1 (25:15):
Yeah, I'll have to think of that. Yeah, I like that.
I didn't even think about the snake part of it.
That's good. Yeah, the rattle sneak and a viper, a
rattlesneak and a viper walk into a bar. That's all
in the show this week. Thank you guys so much
for opportunity and looking forward to SmackDown on Friday, tomar night,

(25:37):
looking forward to, of course to Raw. Now SmackDown is
going to be on Netflix outside of the US at
its normal or at the time of the being live.
We're the only ones in America that will not get
smacked Down live unless you use a VP. I'm not
even sure how to do that to get Netflix up

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted β€” click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
