Speaker 1 (00:01):
Worning.

season one episodes one to two, also WandaVision spoilers. So
I get caught up.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
My David, Jason.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Catpsio, and I'm Rosie Knight.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
Welcome back to x.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Ray Vision, the podcast where we dive deep to your
favorite shows, movies, comics, and pop culture comedy from my heart.
Podcast will re you episodes every week Tuesday and Thursday.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
In today's episode, it's a witchy one. We're getting ready
for spooky season. In the previously on, we're going to
remind you where we left off with one division and
what you need to know before going into Agatha All Along.
Necessary info, necessary witchy info. And in the airlock we're
diving deep into those first two episodes of Agatha All
(01:09):
Along and guys, spoiler alert. It's great, that's right, But
first let's catch.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
You up on Wander stuff. Yes, okay, Rosie, where did
we leave off with WandaVision Wander's other appearances so that
we can have the stage appropriately set to dive into
this season of Agatha.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
So if you recall in the finale of Wonder Vision,
there's a large battle and it ends with Wonder stripping
Agatha of her powers and wiping her memories before hexting
her to stay trapped in her own mind, living in
a kind of ghost version of Westview. But notably, Wonder
(01:52):
did destroy the Hex and the people of Westview got
to go back to their own lives, but Agatha didn't.
Agatha was trapped living in these kind of fake TV
scenarios as Agnes, and the name that we'll get here
is Agnes O'Connor. Wonder destroyed the Hex and her home
and sons were also destroyed. The home was kind of
(02:14):
ripped down to some foundations that we may revisit, and
her sons were kind of whisked off into the ether,
leading to her embracing dark magic to find them. Wonder
took Agatha's copy of the Dark Hold, which was where
Agatha was getting her powers after killing her coven, and
then we saw it rip to those witches sure that
(02:37):
won't come back and bite her at any point. We
saw Wander in the post credit sequence flipping through the
Dark Hold using astral projection kind of like we'd seen
Doctor Strange doing to find where her sons were, and
then just dipping into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,
which you should watch if you haven't seen it because
it's fun by Sam Raimi, Wonder used the Dark Hold
(02:59):
to travel between universes to find places where her children
still existed, leading to Doctor Strange having to team up
with America Shavist to stop Wonder and most importantly to
this recap, eventually leading Wonder at Mount Wondergore to destroy
herself and every single universe's version of the Dark Hold,
including the one that gave Agatha and other witches their power,
(03:23):
so that leads us directly into the delightful Agatha all along.
Let's go to Westview. Oh baby, we're back. We're back.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
We open in Westview and it's a little weird.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
Agatha aka is an Agnes.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Aaka Agnes is a cop apparently in a kind of
a Mayor of East Town type set up.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
An American adaptation of a Danish show Vibe.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
The Wanda's television magic set up for Westview is still
kind of scraping along in this enclosed hex that Agatha
Agnes is trapped in. Agnes gets called to a case.
There's a Jane Doe body in the woods. The only
thing found on the body is like a library slip
(04:21):
for a book. And the cause of death is this body,
which we do not see the face of, has been
crushed to death and appears that it was just dropped
here in the woods. And something about the body is
affecting Agnes in some ways.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
She's getting something from this. There are blackened fingers, which
you may remember can be a sorcedging the dark hole,
touching the dark, called touching dark magic.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
Agnes finds a brooch in a puddle near the body.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
It's her famous Agatha brooch which we saw in one division.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
She does not tell her other cop friends, notably a
Herb who's her neighbor and other cop shouldn't tell her
about it. She just kind of like pockets it. And
when he asks her, hey, are you feeling okay? You're
acting weird, she's like, she gets very very defensive and
snaps at him, and then we get this fake credit sequence,
wonderful fake credit sequence that says, based on the Danish series, one.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
Of these, I do wish I understand why they did it,
but I do wish they hadn't spoiled this in the
credit in the adverts.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
Because it's really effective and very effective.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
And Catherine Hahn is having so much fun playing into
this kind of like tired angry.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Trope.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
She's just she's so good. And as the kind of
show unravels and you realize what really is really going on,
it's a lot of fun. Also incredible to see most
of the actual neighbour cast from one division return for
this show.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
Got the important ones back. Agnes goes to the library
to check out the slip Dottie Jones. The librarian is
really not much of it help, but we learned that
the book is about debate and whetoric and was stolen
three years ago. She goes to check out the other
copies and sees that the shelf was the entire shelf
was burned up, and a man whispers from another aisle
(06:14):
there was a fire.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
It's very spooky and she says, was every copy band
and he's like yes.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
Later with donut, she arrives at the police station. The
chief tells her that the soil samples from the dough
don't match the area that the dough was found in.
It matches Eastern Europe. Okay, we know.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
Who's you know who this body is?
Speaker 2 (06:38):
Enter Aubrey Plaza FBI Agent Rio Vidal. They're going to
have to work the case together, but they don't get
along for some reason. Maybe it's because Agent Vidal clearly
knows who Agnes really is. She says to Agnes, this
is really how you see yourself, and there's like a
spooky moment. They discuss the evidence, and Rio says, you
(07:02):
lived here your whole life. Isn't that true? Agnes Agneth,
She says, she puts a little spice on it, saying like, really,
that's your name. Agnes kicks Vidal out, but she's clearly
troubled by the encounter. Agnes checks out the brooch at
a local pawnshop that she discovers.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
There's a lack of hair inside.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
Agnes puzzles over the book slip more over the who
wrote it, and she's like crosses out the first letters
of the title of the book and she comes up
with D A R.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
Kids something.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
But she gets like, she gets startled by this revelation.
Just as the chief is telling go.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
Home, yeah, and it feels very pointed. The chief comes
in and he's like, go home. Just that she's about
to maybe dark hole, go home, go yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
We get she goes home.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
She's alone.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
She clearly had kids, but there's no kids in the house.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
What let's talk about that. So, as you see, there
are lots of kids' names, and there's lots of kids
kind of ephemera in the house. And this is our
first big kind of nod. We get to the comics
because the kid is Nick Scratch. She has a lot
of pieces of artwork that are written by Nicky. Nick
(08:20):
Scratch is named for the devil. He's first appeared in
Fantastic four ninety eight five seven is He Coming, created
by Lennuien and George pres Legends, and in the comics
he is Agatha's son who would later go on to
become the leader of this magical world named New Salem
(08:41):
and the leader of a group named the Salem Seven.
And this is very in wonderful. As you will remember,
there is a bunny that Agatha, that Agnes has, that
Agatha has called Nick. We were always wondering is this
just an illusion? But I'm starting to wonder now it was.
(09:01):
I think it's her son. I think he got turned
into a bunny somehow, and that might be why she's
been doing all this shenanigans to get the power that
she needs. So yeah, lots of Nick Scratch stuff here.
Very fun, especially because this was kind of a combo
of old Nick and Old Scratch, so they created this
name and then you the reason that's probably recognizable to
people who have watched Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is that
(09:23):
it's something that Roberto took on and gave the name
to one of Sabrina's love interests in that show. So yes,
lots of Nick Scratch stuff here. I wasn't expecting it.
Very fun, very very fun.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
A special agent Rio shows up with a pizza and
absolutely un hinge behavior. She has the pizza behind her back,
takes the pizza out to reveal the pizza, and when
she does so, she like puts it vertical so that it.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
Was what are we doing? This is weird?
Speaker 2 (09:56):
But also you understand that Rio is playing along with
the illusion, and of all they discuss the case, Agnes
thinks a recent car wreck on a road is maybe related,
and then Rio, puncturing the illusion once again, says, you
remember why you hate me? But they don't get to
explore that because there's a sound upstairs. Agnes goes up.
(10:16):
She finds a burglar she chases the burglar. The burglar
gets hit by a car, gets hit, in fact, by
the neighbor who was once named missus Hart, but apparently
he's going by a different name. We'll explore that in
a bit mm hm. Agnes takes the burglar to the
police station and Vidal watches her interrogate him. The burglar
says that they know who Agnes really is. Agnes does
(10:40):
some light police brutality.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
Police brutality, just kicks him off a chat. The burglar
mentions the road.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
Agus wants to know if he has an alibi for
the night before the Doe body was found. She flies
off the handle. She's getting more and more irate. The
pictures of the Jane Doe turn into pictures of the
WandaVision neighborhood. The mirror behind which Special Agent Rio was
watching the interrogation turns into a painting the burglar. It's Billy, guys, it's.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
I will say. One of the funnest things about this
show is we'd kind of been ragging on them because
they'd been saying his official name was Tine, But actually
in the show they do a really funny bit where
nobody can say his name, so they actually do call
him teen. It's so well done. But yeah, guys, let's
say it's a ninety nine point nine percent it's Billy
unless we're getting Ralph Bonett again. But I think it's.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
Billy, right, It's got to Billy, and we will refer
to him as Billy.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
Yeah, we would, but we were preserving.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
Space in case they do some kind of switch through Billy.
The teen chantsome witchy stuff and things start warping. Agnes
goes to the boorg I mean Wanda. Maximov appears on
the toe tag.
Speaker 1 (11:57):
Oh yeah, which, by the way, another nice cute thing.
The to tac is the library cod and in this
shot we can see that they have Jack Cobby's birthday
on that August twenty eighth. Jack Schaeffer, she never never
ever misses the chance to put in a good Easter egg.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
Jack Schaeffer, we should say, for a moment, let's pause.
He put Jack Chaeffer in charge of Marvel TV.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
Please, this is like Wondervision level quality. I love you,
Jack Shaeffer, Thank you.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
Vidal appears in the morgue and mentions that Wanda's dead
and maybe all the Carpies of the Dark hold are
gone with her and that Agnes and she mentions that
Agnes slash Agatha is trapped now and this he's this spell.
Agnes gets really hot and Rio's like, yes, yes, reveal
(12:46):
yourself and she changes into all her outfits from WandaVision.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
Such a good scene.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
At the end remembers her name, Agatha Harkness. Agatha comes
to back in the Wuandavision neighborhood. She's d She's running
around in the streets. She goes to her neighbor, HERB.
She she's like, how long have I been here? We
discovered that it's been three years that she's been trapped
in this Wanda Vision neighborhood, which about comports to left
(13:16):
the area. Yeah, the neighborhood does not like to mention
Wanda anymore. They're scared of her and herb. That includes herb,
who is also weirded out. Agatha has no which powers none.
She goes back to her house. She pets her bunny,
which is gonna be her son Nick. We definitely and
ruse her defeat at the hands of Wanda, but there's
(13:38):
a sound upstairs that she finds Billy trapped in the closet.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
Okay, well, so there's just a great line hit where
she says, so, okay, maybe the arrest was more of
a kidnapping because we realize that, like everything she thinks
is going on isn't. So everyone in the neighborhood just
thinks she's like a widow who thinks she's in a
police show. But she's the only one who can see that.
Stuff's got great line, really funny.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
There's an explosion Vidal shows up in finally which guys
they fight. Vidal has a knife, Vidal is mad about
the dark Hole and all the other stuff, including the
fact that that Agatha kills her coven off.
Speaker 1 (14:14):
The fight is brutal, but.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
They're actually not allowed to kill each other, we discover
because of magic.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
Yeah, and also as well, I just want to say
this is so gay, Like there is so much sexual
tension here. They're kissing each other there, I mean, I
mean they're almost kissing each other, They're licking blood off
each other's hand, They're talking about the anticipation. There is
a lot of queerness area and I absolutely love it.
And it's clear that Vidal's powers are really really strong,
(14:43):
and we will get to in the second episode who
Vidal probably is, but it's very interesting to note that, Yeah,
they can't kill each other, and that's why what Agatha
did to Covenans is such an evil and maligned thing
to look as right.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
Aggas A talks her way out of this particular stitue,
kind of because it wasn't about this moment. It was
more about Rio torturing Ear in this moment. But she says, basically,
what do you want to fight me when I'm powerless?
Let me get my power back and then we can
we can have our confrontation and that'll be more satisfying
to you. Apparently a lot of witches want Agatha dead
(15:21):
because she's done some very very terrible things, including the
Salem Seven, once vanquished long ago by Agatha, and they're
coming the Seven tonight at sundown. They will come to
Westview and that will be the end of Agatha, who remembers,
oh yeah, Billy, I gotta go get him, and then
we get the real witch outro credits. Much like Wana Vision.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
It's expensive to buy all the comics. We need to
have all this great comic centric information for you on
x ray Vision, So please listen to a message from responsors. Yeah,
(16:09):
we're back the credits are great to season of the Witch.
There's lots of fun stuff here. We get a Nancy
from the Craft moment, we obviously get a snow white
Wicked Witch moment. They really use a lot of fun
Disney stuff here. They also put in some nice witchy
woodcuts from history.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
I just I have to say, like I was blown
away by how good this first episode was. I didn't
think it was gonna be that good. And the second
episode only it gets bad like it's Yeah. So episode two.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
Circle soone with Fate Unlock Thy Hidden Gate. We open
right after where we left off. Billy is still tied
up hopping around the houses. Agatha is loudly complaining about everything,
including her current circumstances. She is planning to leave. She
doesn't want to face the Seven. She doesn't have a power,
she can't take them on. And Billy manages to get
(17:04):
his little tape over his mouth off, and he says,
take me to the Witch's Road, where apparently, if you
can walk the Witch's Road all the way to the end,
you will get the thing that you want the most.
Agatha says, that's a death witch. The road will kill us.
Billy has been studying Agatha, who is a famous witch,
and he says, you know I saved you. It was
(17:25):
me you saved you from the Scarlet Witch's spell. And
I want to get to the end of the road
because I want more magical power. I want to become
more paathful to do more magic style. Let's talk about this.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
Do we believe that that is why Billy wants to
go to the Witch's Road or does Billy want to
go to the Riches Road to get his mom back,
well power to do what exactly? So I think there's
a I think there's a truth here, but I also
think Billy could be playing Agatha slightly. Also, I just
want to say, Joe Locke, you are perfect. Joe lock
and Catherine Han together. The chemistry casting hair is so good.
(17:59):
This episode is so funny.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
Agatha regards the brooch again, the lock of hair, and she's.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
His next look of hat. I think it's Nick Scratch.
She's like, who are you?
Speaker 2 (18:09):
And he tries to tell her cheek but he can't
because of magic. And there's that wonderful moment where like
some the writing of the magical snack heres over his mouth. Uh,
and she's like Okay, get in my car. They drive off,
but actually Billy has to drive because she doesn't remember
how to drive.
Speaker 1 (18:28):
She doesn't remember how car works.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
And she tells Billy on this drive that, okay, so
I killed off my coven, which obviously is a problem.
Now we need to assemble a new coven so that
we can walk the road. Billy's like, well, where do
we find a coven? And she says, well, there's a
witch rule, And basically, in plain English, the rule states
(18:51):
that in any three mile radius there are enough people
of appropriately witchy demeanor to warmer coven. They don't have
to be I love witches in the world, but you
can get them all together and you can make a
coven out of them. They stop at a psychic shop
on the road. They go inside, we meet Patty Lapone.
(19:11):
Oh there she is playing Lilia Caldaroo. Oh yeah, let's
talk about Lilian. Let's talk about who Lilia are.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
So Lilia Caldaroo Madame Calderous in the comics, you know,
first appearance Marvel Premiere, twelve August nineteen seventy three. There
was a lot of witchy stuff going on in Marvel
back then. Like you'll notice a lot of this witch
stuff is from the seventies.
Speaker 2 (19:33):
She was a witchy VAMPIREMBI swampy statue.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
L because of the loosening of the American comics code. Yeah,
so that's why, and so created by Steve Engelhart, Mark
Friedrich and Frank Brunner. She was actually once the holder
of the Book of Cagliostro and is a descendant Stranger's
favorite exactly and as a descendant of the original Baron
Mordo in the comics, and there's a lot of interesting
(20:01):
stuff there's She's literally in the comics for a couple
of issues, which I think is their favorite place to
kind of pull from now, but really interesting, deep doctor
strange kind of connections. And I love the way that
Patty brings her across here also such a American slash,
(20:21):
especially southern California experience, to just see a psychickshop everywhere.
We don't have those in England, guys, but here there's
always a psychic shop. So I love to see Lilya
in her psyekiicshop. And of course they're one hundred legit
all of every time.
Speaker 2 (20:35):
Agatha and Billy kind of do this little bit to
see if Lilya has any juice. Where they're pretending, Oh yeah,
we're here to talk to my late husband to see
where his.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
Gold, his old bars are.
Speaker 2 (20:52):
Lila pretends to have no talent, but then reveals that
she knows all about Agatha in the last three years.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
Of her life.
Speaker 2 (20:59):
She's not They're all interested in helping Agatha because she
has a terrible reputation because she recently murdered her own coven,
which everybody knows about. Yeas a bad bad scene. Now
we see from a little interaction they have with Lilia
that Lily is something is about her. Magic is a
little beyond her control. There's something that has happened to her.
(21:21):
She sees unseen figures perhaps or loses control of her
magic for little blips. It's unclear, but there's something chaotic
about her.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
But she does have some juice. She has got the juice.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
She's very, very old. And Agatha says, hey, Lilia, we're
going down the road. We need a divination, which which
you are. Do you want to come ps? This is
my pet Billy, don't worry about him again. Lily doesn't
trust Agatha. She thinks Agatha wants to steal her power,
which by the way. Actually she does really does want
(21:56):
to steal power. Agatha says, well, I can't feel your
power to attack me with it, so just don't attack me.
Speaker 1 (22:03):
And Lila gives.
Speaker 2 (22:04):
Her four more names for the other people that they
need for the coven, and Lily is clearly in although
in this moment she's very stand offish.
Speaker 1 (22:13):
About it and very interesting. They look at the list
and Billy can only see three names on the list,
and I would assume that's because his is the fourth name.
But we'll get to next. They got to go get
the coven members.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
They go outside to get back in the car and
Agatha sees a crow locks eyes with the we will
find is the seven assembling and watching her the whole
time they go down the list. Next up is Jennifer Kele,
played by the wonderful Sashiri Zamata from s Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (22:42):
Love to see her hair. Jennifer another seventies creation FIA
issue eleven, created by Steve job Richard. She's popping up
more and more and Jennifer Kel's incredibly powerful sorceress. She
actually has a lot more connections to people like man Thing,
to the Force, to ghost Rider. The Danny Ketch version
of ghost Rider. There's also connections to Johnny Blaze. She's
(23:06):
helped out the X Force before, who we love with
big XBOS fans, and she's worked along side people like
Topaz and Satana not Zatana, notably Satna. So yeah, lots
of interesting stuff. She's definitely becoming more popular. We've seen
her with the Midnight Suns with Well by Night. I
feel like she's a character we're going to see more
(23:27):
in the comics. And I absolutely love this casting and
the representation of different kinds of witchcraft are so funny here,
and Jennifer really kind of starts to bring that out.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
So Jennifer is undercover as a candle shark Harry Crystal's
very woo very crystals, very very jade eggs, very MLMs
and good yes. And Jen also has some very pressing legal.
Speaker 1 (24:03):
Issues class action lawsuits.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
Baby related to promises she apparently made in promotions about
the effectiveness of her candles and other mirrors. Jen is
not keen to join up, but she has those pressing
legal issues, so she's going to join up too. Next up,
Oh Baby Alice Wu played by Ali Aha.
Speaker 1 (24:28):
Yeah, this X cop blood witch doc. This is really
really cool. In the so they do a fun thing
here where her mom is called Lorna Wo And obviously
you think of Polaris and you think of Magneto. In
the comics. This is Alice Gulliver, who's also known as
the Wu, which is kind of this like cool, more
(24:49):
and more kind of cop alter ego that she has.
She's a more recent character from twenty sixteen Doctor Strange,
Last Days of Magic James Robinson and Mike Perkins. And
she does have a mother who's a witch in the comics,
and her mum was actually killed by a demonic magical assailant,
so it'll be interesting to see if that comes in.
(25:12):
And Alice is just a really interesting kind of combo
of science and magic and she has teamed up with
Wonder in the comics before.
Speaker 2 (25:22):
Alice is working at like a kind of gothy witchy hut.
Speaker 1 (25:27):
I think she's working Hot Topic. It's gotta be because
we see hot Topic in the background, which I love
because Billy is so hot topic coded. And then they
go inside and he kind of makes a joke about
it and they do a great trick to get Alice
in trouble where Agatha tells Billy to run and he
kind of runs out the shop and she stops him
(25:48):
because she's a security guard. And yeah, very very fun sequence.
I feel like they really understand the audience of this show.
With this series, they pitch, they pitch Alice on the road.
Alice thinks the road is a myth. Agatha promises, listen,
you walk the road with us, you will get the
answers that you want. Yeah, didn't your mom get lost
(26:09):
on the road, isn't that what happened?
Speaker 2 (26:10):
Like On the drive away from the mall, Billy tries
to tell Agatha more about himself, but more magic stuff.
Speaker 1 (26:17):
She can't hit anything. It's almost like she zones out.
It's very interesting.
Speaker 2 (26:23):
Later, Agatha sees a wolf watching her very intently.
Speaker 1 (26:26):
At the mall.
Speaker 2 (26:27):
She saw a rat watching her as well. The seven
are gathering at the house. Billy is so stoked to
welcome the new coven he makes like a welcome signed
Agatha very funnily much everybody shows up. They have Lily,
a divination, Jen potions, Alice, blood magic, but they are
(26:47):
missing the earth magic. They need one more name, the
other one on the list. There was a name which
Agatha could see. Billy again couldn't see it.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
Was just a black Heart. Interesting, gotta be missed Heart.
Can I just say as well, Black Cart is the
son of Mephisto, famous Marvel villain, So they're really playing
with us here about Billy because Mephisto did bring Billy
to life in the comics. Yes, I'm back on my
Mephisto agenda again, guys, I'm sorry it's back.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
I'll say this, of the Mephisto agenda, Mephista will show
up in the movies, not in the shows. I think
they will hint at Mephisto.
Speaker 1 (27:25):
I think that's fair, and I.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
Think Mephisto will eventually show up. But Mephisto will be
a big bed in the movies.
Speaker 1 (27:30):
Yeah, it makes a lot of sense. Mephisto's huge. But
if are we covering a wonder centric show if we're
not talking about Mephisto, No, so we have to bring
out you. But like you said, actually that it's Missus
Hart who's no longer Missus Heart, She's now Missus Davis.
But I love that we get to see the Bridgeoe Rupp.
I was not expecting her to have a bigger role
(27:51):
in this show than hitting Billy with her car.
Speaker 2 (27:53):
Missus Hart insists that that's my heart is just the
name that Wanda called me, and we don't talk about
wander Agatha says, well, whatever, just come to the cove party.
Speaker 1 (28:03):
Befre good. She's doing gardening. You've got a green thigh.
Speaker 2 (28:08):
That's right, she says. Billy away, because they're gonna do
the witchy stuff now and try to conjure the road
by singing.
Speaker 1 (28:17):
This very specific ballad. This song.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
Now, the witches arranged the vocals. Who's going high, who's
going low? Whose vocal range goes where? While Billy is
upstairs petting the rabbit aka nick scratch, the wind is
rising and the Seven are coming. We understand this. Downstairs,
the scene is starting. Missus Hart is playing like she
doesn't know the song, but don't worry.
Speaker 1 (28:40):
She she knows it. She gets it. I love that twist.
That's very fun.
Speaker 2 (28:45):
There are several wonderful verses as the song is progressing.
That seven gather outside Missus Hart as the song you
know enters its final stanzas is now you know holy
hands with her new coven. They're all in this circle,
singing their hearts out. Billy is locking the doors. That's
(29:07):
not gonna do anything, but she's locking. He's locking the
door so the Seven can come in. They finish, nothing happens.
The Seven are now attacking the home. Agatha, in desperation,
tries to goad the witches to attack her so she
can steal their power, but they know what she's doing.
They all notice that now a trap door has appeared
under their feet. Oh and they have no choice but
(29:30):
to flee into this trapdoor because the Seven are here.
There's there's steps going all the way down, and the
coven flee down there with Billy. Down at the bottom,
they find a road which they must walk barefoot. They
take off their feet and they begin walking the road.
Speaker 3 (29:49):
Cut two, which outro credits WHOA. It's not easy being
a witch, and it's not cheap either. We need cauldrons,
we need ones, we need cards. So please listen to
a message from our sponsors.
Speaker 1 (30:18):
And we're back.
Speaker 2 (30:19):
That is the first two episodes of it was all
along Wow, which I love.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
I love. I've forgotten what it feels like to watch
Secret Invasion and now I'm back in. I'm all in say.
I was watching it and I was like, Wow, this
is magical. The casting, the pacing, the humor, you know,
Wondervision was a very funny show, and I think we
forget that and it's nice to see that humor come
back here. And it really is a very funny, catty, bantery,
(30:54):
wicked show. I think it's going to be a perfect
Halloween show. So I'm very very excited for it does
feel like a return to form for Marvel TV. I
think you're right. Let Jack Schaefer be in charge decide
what's gonna happen. Also, wasn't Aubrey Plaza just made to
play a witch? Like when she comes in in that
fight scene, I was just like, this is what you
(31:15):
were made for, baby, Like, I'm so happy that they
understand you. So I do have a theory about who
she's playing. Now, obviously I am going to say, wouldn't
it be great if she was playing you know, Mephisto.
Just going to say it because I think that that
I don't think it's really it's not going to be her.
(31:36):
I just need to put that there. It's not gonna
be her, But I will say the more realistic version
of what I think, especially after it's clear that she
is the missing person from her coven. They need a
green witch there is a character who's called the Emerald
war Emerald Warlock. He is another James Robinson character from
Unconny Avengers from twenty fifteen, and he is decland Dane,
(32:00):
and he is basically like a famous warlock who came
with his mother, the sorceress Karmen, and his brother and
he's all very emerald coded. He always wears green. And
I'm like pretty sure that that she will be a
kind of take on that character, because they keep talking
about this green witch. So that's my grounded theory.
Speaker 2 (32:19):
I'll tell you who I hope she is. Who she isn't,
but who I hope she is, and would be cool
if she is, but she's not. She's she's not this
everyone and I knows.
Speaker 1 (32:30):
I Oh my god, imagine if she was magic? That
would imagine if she was magic, I would just die.
I mean that's like perfect casting. It's not going to
be her, but imagine if she was. Wouldn't that be
Peter the.
Speaker 2 (32:45):
Daughter of Peter resputant classes of the x men uh
magic user, wielder of a magical sword, ruler of her
own magical realm Limbo the Bess not her, but.
Speaker 1 (32:56):
It's not, But wouldn't that be good. Those are our
two pie in this we wish it would happen, Mephisto
and Magic. I would love to see.
Speaker 2 (33:03):
I love this show so far.
Speaker 1 (33:05):
I think it's such a joy.
Speaker 2 (33:06):
Listen. It contains several of my icons, of several iconic
parasocial crushes that I've had throughout my life. I'm including
Catherine Hahn and Aubrey Plaza. Pattipone love legend, legend. Go
watch her hot ones with Aubrey Plaza. It's absolutely hysterical,
just like one of the best to ever do it.
(33:27):
And the cast is casting. I'll say this. All the
Marvel Disney shows have had wonderful casts, so it's never
been about the cast. Secret Invasion had a fucking awesome cast.
Speaker 1 (33:40):
Yeah, but what do you do with that cost? But
what do you do with that cast?
Speaker 2 (33:43):
And listen, there were wider We should at some point
talk about the recent New York Times expose about Bob
Chapex run as Disney CEO. We've got to opens a
significant window into the key years under Chapek that included
the production of many of the Disney plus Marvel shows
(34:06):
that have come off not so well. And I think
that chaos clearly figured into a lot of that to
get into that later. This show thus far appears to
have none of those problems. Yeah, crackling through the first
two episodes, all the wit and quality and detail and
you know, spooky cool vibes of WandaVision art. Yeah, I
(34:30):
wasn't here in Agatha, and I can't wait to continue
watching the show.
Speaker 1 (34:33):
It's fun. I'm very excited for it, and I will
say the lost if you wanna. The last comic book
thing we should quickly mention is Salem Seven. This was
something I wrote about a lot when I was covering
WandaVision because I was I found out about them, and
I was like obsessed with them because that's super weird.
Fantastic four one to eighty six from nineteen seventy seven, Lamune,
George Perez Legends and they are basically like the mutated
(34:56):
children of Nick Scratch, and it's super weird and super creepy.
And I'm very interested to know how we will see
the Nick Scratch connection because he was also their leader
at one point, so I'm very interested to see how
that could come in. Also, just want to shout out
how terrifying the Salem seven were in the way they
were represented in one divisions in the comics. They're very
(35:19):
over the top, very outrageous, very seventies color schemes, crazy costumes.
I love this more James One Insidious inspired.
Speaker 2 (35:27):
Yeah, with the quick horror, quick, quick, ratchety movements that
are show when they're rearranging, it's like I very spooky,
very I.
Speaker 1 (35:36):
Really hope that this show gets its due as just
a great Halloween show. And also I will say never
you know not, don't have to hand it to them,
but hand it to me here. Disney has a history
of fantastic spooky season projects that become cult classics. Hocus Pocus,
The nightm Before Christmas obviously, which I know it sounds
(35:59):
crazy but was not a massive hit when it came out.
Also one of the scariest movies ever made, Return to Oz,
the widst sequel they made with for Us a Bulk.
So I kind of feel like this just perfectly fits in. Yes,
Star of the Craft, my legend, my queen playing Dorothy
in a mental institute, who's about to get one of them?
Speaker 2 (36:19):
Crazy crazy, truly one of the craziest shows and ever
movies ever.
Speaker 1 (36:26):
They are gonna literally give her electric shock treatment, but
she is saved by a talking chicken who takes her
back to Oz where everybody has been turned to stone.
Terrifying and finally streaming on Disney Plus, thank you. But
I just think this fits perfectly into that tradition. I
think it could be one of those shows that you
rewatch at spooky season, which I love to have a
(36:47):
spooky season rewatch. So yeah, I am so delightfully surprised
by these first two episodes, and I'm very excited I'll
go further.
Speaker 2 (36:56):
I hope, like you that it gets its due, but
I also hope that it flies under the radar a
little bit. I think part of the problem in the discourse,
uniquely around Star Wars and a little bit around some
of the Marvel stuff too, is that it's gotten so
(37:19):
big and heated that there's a lot of space for
bad actors who don't actually like, who just want to
shit on things exactly the most toxic fucking way. Ever,
there's a lot of room for them to operate, and
so I hope that like that kind of flies under
the radar.
Speaker 1 (37:38):
Alte I episode two. I hope we're in a space
where you can find the people who love it and
they can enjoy it just.
Speaker 2 (37:43):
The people who love it, because right now I'm loving it.
Speaker 1 (37:46):
I'm loving it. Also, I will say, look, I had
a lot of things to love about The Acolyte, but
if you're worried this suffers from similar Acolyte problems with
pacing or the way that an episode doesn't it does
not appear to you right now from the first two
episodes we have seen, but it does have a lot
of the great things that made The Acolyte so beloved
in its fandoms of complex relationships with heroes and villains,
(38:08):
et cetera, that is there in this really exciting, new
and really funny way. So yeah, very excited for this
one and to keep covering it with you, Jason, because
it is delivering so far.
Speaker 2 (38:20):
Coming up next this week, we're going to continue our
coverage of Rings of Power Brings of Power two six.
That's it for this episode. Thanks for listening.
Speaker 1 (38:35):
X ray Vision is.
