Speaker 1 (00:00):
Warning.

Speaker 2 (00:00):
Today's episode contains spoilers for season two episode one of
House of the Dragon and the book Fire and Blood.
One thing I love about this season young lords. The
young lords are in are in effect, get those oldies
out of here again.

Speaker 3 (00:16):
Get them off lords out, Get them older.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
They can't ride horses, they can't leave their casolate or
get the.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
Get them nice.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
This is like hoti little young lords out of that.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
It's House of the Dragon rivedale edition. Let's get those baby.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Why why are we hiding something hot in the north,
Craign Stark, You gotta come south more often, my guy. Hello,

(00:55):
my name is Jason, and I'm Rosey Night, and welcome
back to x Revision of the podcast where we dive
deep into your favorite shows, movies, comics, and pop culture.
Coming to you from my Art podcast, where we're bringing
you two episodes a week every Tuesday and Thursday.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
In today's episode, in the airlock, what else would we
be talking about? Dragon? Season two episode one, and what
an episode that was? What a premiere? This show is
still just devastating us on every watch and omnibus, Jason
is going to break down all the Easter eggs In
the new opening credits which are beautiful. And in the

(01:30):
back man, we're gonna be doing a scorecard for Team
Black versus Team Green. Who's winning?

Speaker 2 (01:35):
Quick pieces of House of the Dragon news. First of all,
as we all expected, House of the Dragon Season three
has been greenlit. The show is renewed and will continue.
And you would expect with the marketing layout and everything
we've seen and how important this show is to Max
slash HBO slash Order Discovery that that would be the case,
and that is the case. Also, the prequel series, based

(01:59):
on the Duncan Egg novella's A Night of the Seven
Kingdoms is set to arrive in late twenty twenty five,
so that is happening.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
Yeah, it's not long now, all.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Right, folks, coming up, we're stepping out of the air
lock and talking about season two of House of the Dragon,
which premiered this Sunday. House of the Dragon Season two

(02:34):
Episode one. First of all, off rip, we get a
new intro animation, wonderful tapestry of events from Targari in history,
which I'll dive into deeper in the omnibus section. But
first of all, what do we see? We see, We
see the history of old Valaria. We see necromancers.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
We see the Doom of Valeria, in which the region.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Was completely destroyed and as it remains to this day.
We see the migration of the Tigerians to the west.
We see Eggon's conquests of west of Us. We see
his birding of Heron Hall. We see Torren, the King
who knelt. We see Maygor, the cruel dying on the throne.
We see the Great Council of one oh one, which

(03:16):
began our series the first episode of season one of
House the Dragon, and then we see the Black versus
Green schism, and then we're into the show. We open
in the North Rosie, and what a wonderful place to
return to.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
I know, what a surprise. I mean, did you expect
to see them go to the wall this alley?

Speaker 2 (03:36):
I was surprised by it. Yeah, and I loved it.
It was real emotional feeling to watch that raven flying
over the hills to Winterfell and then beyond to Castle
Black in the Wall.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
It was amazing. How did you feel watching that?

Speaker 3 (03:55):
Yeah? I thought it was a pretty brave swing to
just staw in it space that is so well known
for get to Game of Thrones fans. It's exciting I
also think it's the reason I think it's brave is
because realistically we're not gonna necessarily be spending more time there,
so I think to be like boom, here's the Wall
and to introduce Crag and Stark, and I think it's

(04:16):
really cool. I was. I was very impacted by it,
especially post you know, that great new credit sequence where
you get the theme that we know so well, you know,
and then it kind of takes you back to those
heydays of Game of Thrones.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
So we're up here because Jusa's young Jase is you know,
out here making his pitch to the young Lord of
Winterfel Lord Craign's Stark, the Warden of the North. They're
at Castle Black. Stark is talking about his family history
and we learned that it's late summer. Winter is really

(04:51):
and truly coming, which is approaching. And that being the case,
one of the ways that the North prepares for winter
is they need to kind of like lay off any
extraneous mouths. So they will send one out of ten
members of the Stark household will go to Castle Black

(05:12):
to kind of you know, lower costs, lower the bleed
on resources older warriors. Third, second and perhaps even third
and fourth sons, extra children. They will look for fights
elsewhere in the kingdom. They will look to leave so
they won't be a burden on their families. And this
is part of the deal that Jase strikes.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
With Craig and Stark.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
Craign Stark says, hey, I'll send you a couple thousand
of my old graveyards warriors or seasoned warriors. They're not
going to want to be up here during the winter time,
so they will go south with you.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
And they will they will really fight.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
Interesting note, I want to I want to ask you
about this, Roseanne. I want to raise this for our
book reading audience. So in this really interesting conversation, they're
talking about Torren Stark, who was king during Agon's invasion.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Invasion.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
He was He's known as the King who Knelt because
rather than continue the fight, he surrendered to Eggon and
effectively ended the invasion the war for west Ros and
Eggon was victorious. And they also talk about the visit
of old King Jaharis and Queen Alison. Alison was particularly

(06:26):
beloved by Northerners because she increased the size of the
gift to the area of land, the strip of land
south of the Wall that the Black Brothers used to
support themselves. So Jay says to Craig and he's as
they're riding up in the ovators, like, oh, I like
to think about, you know, right here, our ancestors. They

(06:47):
were just talking about Tornstar, And He's saying, you know,
I like to think about, you know, in this very
place like our ancestors had, you know, they met. And
then Craigan's like, well, I'm glad that you're not threatening
me with your dragons this time. So I was confused
because really, when j Harris and Alison came, according to
the histories, well according to everything we know about, that

(07:08):
was not like a aggressive visit. It was like an embassy.
It was like a royal tour essentially, and no one
was threatening anybody with dragons.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
And that was not that long. It was several decades back.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
But the meeting between Eggon and Torren Stark when Torren
Nelt happened way way south of the Wall, did not
happen there. So I was like a little I bumped
a little bit on what they were talking about there.
And I'd love some input from our book reading listeners.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
I would say, book readers definitely kind of jump in
there because there's been a lot of theorizing about like
why torren nelt, you know, like was it because he'd
heard of the Field of Fire? Was it because he
was scared of the dragons? Was it? You know? When
House Dragon came out, people were like, was it because
of the prophecy? But as me and you have talked about,
I don't think they just don't think.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
I think they kept that very tight. Yeah, I came
out it was very tight.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
This is definitely really interesting because this becomes one of
the issues with adapting something people know so well is
you can't really have a throwaway line yeah, because we're
always gonna dig into it. I'm interested to see if
they build on this specific note anymore. And I'm also
interested that they introduced the Jason Craigan relationship, Like, now.

Speaker 1 (08:24):
Young hot lords, you.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
Enjoying things. I mean, I think they already have it,
Like people are already shipping it.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
Listen, They're gonna get along famously.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
Those two.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
We go to Dragonstone, where Renice, the Queen who Never was,
is taking a break after patrolling the Narrow Sea on
her own. She's doing that in order to hold the
blockade of King's Landing, which Corliss's navy is holding in place.
Damon meanwhile, is like, get back on your dragon. We're
getting at it. We're going to King's Landing. We're gonna
me and you.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
We're gonna take on Va right now. We're gonna do
it right now, dude.

Speaker 3 (09:03):
And Rainie's is like, just shut the fuck up.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
Like I need, I need, male needs lunch.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
Also, she doesn't want to like go and kill a king,
you know, like it's just not a good idea to
kill the other royal family. Rainie's already made a choice
to not burn the Green to the ground. Do I
agree with that choice? Probably not, honestly. Now she I
might be on Damon's side there, it would have been
a good idea. And I appreciate her mindset, her more

(09:33):
peaceful treaties focused mindset. She knows the war is gonna happen,
but she doesn't have to be a serial killer within
the war yet, which Damon he would just love to.
I also love how much here Renie is like so
empowered by the fact there is a female queen even
though they're not on side, that she just doesn't give
a ship what Damon says like, this scene is so

(09:54):
good because he really thinks he can kind of force
her into this thing, and she just doesn't pay him
any mind.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
So Damon is uh, you know, grabbing the steering roll
right now because Reniera, who has just lost her son
Luke in the attack that we saw at the end
of season one in which aimoned one eye and Vagar
chop down on Luke and little Arax that happened mere

(10:21):
days ago, and she is looking for Luke's body in
order to confirm that this actually happened. Yeah, unfortunately it's
leaving a leadership vacuum over at Team Black.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
Yes, not the best choice, Like RINERA, I love you.
This is very sad. You should be able to mourn.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
No, we need to be here. I think we need
to be here right now anyway. So Damon is like, hey,
I'm ordering you to go with me to King's landing,
and Rainey's is like, well, you're not King, so so sorry.
On Drift, Mark Corlis is inspecting his flagship.

Speaker 3 (10:56):
He looks like he's doing great, by the way, for
someone that we thought was dead.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
He was really on death's door for much of season one.
He speaks to Alan, a sailor who we learn as
the man who dragged him from the water saved Corliss's life,
and it seems like there's a connection there that goes
beyond just like a leader and one of his soldiers.
Alan gives Corlis a dagger that was delivered there for him,

(11:21):
and Corlis had intended it to give to his former
heir Luke, who is now deceased. On kings Landing, Arak
Era Rik Carlile, one of the arak Eric twins.

Speaker 1 (11:34):
And by the way, here's.

Speaker 2 (11:35):
How I do this if you want to if you're
always mixing them up. Eric a for Allison Green.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
Oh, so I do.

Speaker 3 (11:41):
That's really good.

Speaker 1 (11:42):
I like that.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
So Eric Carlisle of the King's Guard is manning the
air defense, and we see like the Red Keep and
kings Landing is on high alert.

Speaker 1 (11:51):
They're just big.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
They got big crossbow aimed skyward and they're waiting if
any dragon is sighted above, they're ready to go. King
Egon is looking for his son, Prince Jiharis. Wants to
bring him to a small council meeting so he can
learn to be king. Queen Helena says, well, what if
he doesn't want to be king? And Eggon is like,
don't worry about it, He's gonna be Meanwhile, Queen Helena,

(12:15):
in one of those interesting kind of throwaway comments that
she is fond of making that always seem to hit
home somehow, tells Eggon and the assembled headmaidens there that
she's worried about quote the rats.

Speaker 3 (12:30):
Yes, and everybody thinks she's saying just complete wild nonsense
as usual. But I will also say I think these
two things together where she says, well, if he does
not want to be king and the rats, you're really
looking at Helena as someone who has nailed it again,
nailed it again, and has very specific views on how

(12:51):
a kingdom should be run and the cost of a kingdom,
how much it costs a king to be king, which
will come to fruition later.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
Look back at season one, she predicted that Aimond would
claim Vagars said he would gain a dragon but lose
an eye. She predicted that Renie would burst out from
the floor of the dragon pit on top of Melee's
the beast beneath the boards.

Speaker 1 (13:17):
And more and more and more.

Speaker 2 (13:19):
Book readers will know that there's really no mention of
Helena's prophetic powers in the books. Which raises the possibility
that no one ever notices that she keeps on safe.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (13:32):
I like the idea that historically this woman who was
like could have been an incredibly powerful piece of the
Kingdoms and the Greens like war game, is just so
ignored that she never even ended up being noticed in
history for it. You know, I think that's really smart.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
Meanwhile, the hottest brunch spot in King's landing is the
Queen's legs.

Speaker 1 (13:53):
Yeah, we go to the King's chambers, do it for you?

Speaker 3 (13:57):
Look, I never I know, I don't want to hand
it to Kristen Cole, but in this case, at least
Jamaican Allison happy.

Speaker 1 (14:05):
Well he's not. Yeah, that's right.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
The dowards of Queen als in High Tower is getting
topped by none other than Lord Commander of the King's Guard,
Christian Cole, and they both decide.

Speaker 1 (14:17):
We can never ever do this again.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
That's it, the last time we do this, and of
course we get it definitely.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:24):
Eggon presides over a small council meeting with young Prince
of Jaharis in tow Otto is delivering some bad news.
The Valain in the north appear to have gone over
to the Blacks, not to worry though, because the storm
lands appear solidly green, because Aimond is soon to wed
Flora's Brathian Old Town's army will soon be on the march,

(14:45):
the river lands are firmly within the crown sites. All
those kind of still up for grabs, what with old
Lord Paramount Grover Tully kind of being a question mark
at this particular time. Will that the Black Blockade is
certainly taking a toll on the King's landing economy, and
that we need a master of ships right now because uh,

(15:08):
naval warfare is a thing that the Crown is going
to have to deal with. Aimon enters he's been invited
by his brother Eggon, even though he wasn't invited, and
he immediately just starts pitching ideas like we go to
the river lands, we take Haron Hall, we secure the
crown lands, and Eggon loves it. He Eggon is like

(15:28):
me and my bro we rise the dragons out.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
Let's just fucking gla shit.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
Love it. It's awesome. Everybody's like, King, you can't go
to war. We're fighting for you. If you die, it's over.

Speaker 3 (15:42):
You are you fool? And it's very I think we
get a great insight here. You know, we've heard so
much about the dance and the dragons and Tiger Tagari
and madness and stuff. But I think something that I
really like about the way that they're bringing Eggon and
aim And into this. Obviously Aimon psycho like the child.
I do feel like it wasn't on purpose, but Eggon

(16:02):
is like he is still a kid, Like he wants
to have Prince Jaharah's there. He wants to humiliate people
with Prince Jaharah's. He wants to have Prince Harris ride
on people's backs. He's not taking this seriously. He doesn't
take the war seriously.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
Tayland Lanister is a fucking exactly.

Speaker 3 (16:19):
I'm saying, Yeah, I'm like, let the kids be riding
him as a horse. But also you get a really
great insight here into you thought that you were going
to be able to control these kids, but it's just
not the case because you did make him king.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
It's funny because Egguns a piece of shit. I don't
like him, but I found his the the warmth with
which he deals with his kids. You know, I guess
he kind of he basically ignores Princess Jahara, but like
he's very warm with j.

Speaker 3 (16:47):
Harrison's Prince Jah Harrison. I found that interesting.

Speaker 2 (16:50):
I found that to be very very winning. Otto and Allison,
of course, agree that the brothers plan is way to
aggressive diplomacy is working. Auto says, I'm saying I've got
letters out and it's working. And yes, Aim and killing Luke,
who's a fucking mistake.

Speaker 1 (17:05):
We can admit that here the.

Speaker 3 (17:08):
Privacy and don't need him to do anything else.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
He's yeah, but but like, let's not compound those mistakes
by sending Vigor out to war. Let's keep Vigor near
the capitol to dissuade Raniera's dragons. Laris has a word
with Allison, and it's clear from the way that he
speaks to her and says he was trying to reach
her previously but couldn't get a hold of her.

Speaker 1 (17:27):
That he knows about the queen.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
And call, and he's upset because he used to be
the one who is getting to look at those feet.
That's done.

Speaker 1 (17:34):
Those days are gone.

Speaker 3 (17:35):
Those days are ova because now Kristen calls in the room,
he and he assures the Queen that foreign spies have
been cleansed.

Speaker 2 (17:45):
From the Red Keep and all of her royal staff
has been replaced with people that he has personally vetted
aka their spies for Laris exactly.

Speaker 3 (17:55):
Also, I just want to say this, it was only
on like the second off that I'd watch where I
was like, oh, this is a bad time to have
told Allison that you've replaced everyone on her stuff. I'm
just saying you didn't think through. I know Laris is
gonna he's gonna make his play. He wants to be
that guy with the power, and he thinks this is

(18:16):
how to do it. But it was bad timing, my friend,
it was bad timing.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
Raniera finally locates Luke's cloak somewhere off the coast, wrapped
in Araxi's wing.

Speaker 3 (18:26):
I thought this was very sweet.

Speaker 2 (18:27):
Actually yeah, it's very, very, very very tough to watch
egg on. We get to watch him a ruling for
the first time. He's hearing petitions from.

Speaker 3 (18:36):
The small folk, and he's trying to help him.

Speaker 2 (18:39):
I think he's he's gotta He clearly wants to be
liked by the small folk.

Speaker 1 (18:43):
He's like canceling taxes and stuff.

Speaker 2 (18:46):
Otto is like, listen, we can't cancel taxes because we're
at war.

Speaker 3 (18:49):
And we need to And he's like, look, we need to.
We need to steal this man's sheep so we can
give it to somebody else, Like, you know.

Speaker 1 (18:57):
We need it.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
Listen, the dragons don't run on gas, they on sheet,
so we need it. Pew the Hammer, who is a
blacksmith in the realm, comes up and he's like, listen,
iron prices are going up. Can the realm pay up
front rather than at the back end upon delivery, because
like we got to buy, we were having to invest.

Speaker 1 (19:15):
More to get the iron now.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
And I think, in one of Eggon's best moments ever,
he basically agrees, Okay, we're going to pay up front now.
And when Auto goes to say, no, don't do that,
he says, well, we need he He kind of talks
over him and says, you know, the small folk are
integral to our wartime victory. And Auto is like, oh, yeah,
you're right, and he turns around.

Speaker 3 (19:38):
Laris Egon, why' is he winning so many He's winning
so many points from me right now? He's awful, but
he's just he's doing the right thing.

Speaker 1 (19:45):
He is.

Speaker 2 (19:45):
Laris then pulls the king aside and not really suddenly
at all, attempts to drive a wedge between the king
and Auto High Tower, who I'm sure Lari's views as
a rival years because.

Speaker 3 (20:00):
He's trying to be handed the king.

Speaker 2 (20:01):
Otto and Allison catch up. The Queen wants more support
from Otto and try to reign in the King and
Amon's worst instincts, a goal they both share along with
winning the war. And I think this is one of
again Alison's best moments in the series, where Otto basically goes.

Speaker 1 (20:15):
You know what, you're right, You're right, you're right. I'll
stop doing that.

Speaker 3 (20:18):
Because she is lunch. People underestimate her because she's just
like laysing around the palace getting eaten out by Kristen
Cole when her you know, her son just killed her
ex bestes like child. But I will say Allison has
learned to play the game, and we get to see
that here in such a Again, the show's just killing it,
expanding on Alison's character and building her up from this

(20:41):
kind of bit two dimensional villain into an actually complex character.
And I love that we're starting to see Otto maybe
realize that he doesn't have.

Speaker 2 (20:52):
He needs her, I don't needs her, and I think
Otto realizes, like, yeah, I've lost control of this a
little bit. We didn't want full out war to break out,
and here is Luke, Rania's child getting murdered by us.

Speaker 1 (21:09):
That's terrible. How do we come back from this?

Speaker 2 (21:12):
I need all the allies I can get, That includes
my daughter Alison. During blockade activities, Eric Sir Eric and
the Valerian Navy discover Missari, who's trying desperately to flee
back east. They bring her to Damon on Dragonstone. She
reveals she has no allegiance to the Greens, but you
know it was working for them because it was a

(21:33):
business decision. And Damon throws her in the dungeons for treason,
and Damon is just generally like, not in a great mood.
Near returns, speaking of not a great Moodner returns to
Dragonstone with Luke's remains. Damon immediately is like, hey, did
you find what you need to find? She's like yes,
and he's like, okay, let's hit the riverlands. I will

(21:55):
go to Harron Hall establish our toll. Let's fucking go wartime, baby,
like it's happening, we're here. Renie is like, the blockade
is going great, what do you want to do? The
Queen utters The only line of dialogue in the entire unbelievable,
which is that she wants Aiman Targarian a prince for

(22:16):
a prince.

Speaker 1 (22:16):
Now, let me just stop and say again, I believe
he is in the right. I love her.

Speaker 2 (22:22):
Similar to my critique that I know it's hard, but
if you're the queen, you kind of can't disappear for
multiple days.

Speaker 1 (22:30):
You gotta give a more detailed explanation. Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 2 (22:34):
You can't just give an open ended name like with
no other directions and then walk away.

Speaker 3 (22:42):
Especially because her words have massive impact. You can't just
say something like that without explaining it. It is going
to end up becoming a problem. We have had this
happen before, where you make a statement and somebody can
take it the way they want. Guess how you didn't
end up on the throne. It was because your dad
said something that was taken out of context, because nobody

(23:04):
had the context around it. And that is why Aggon
is now on the throne. You gotta I have to say,
Emma Dossi is so freaking good.

Speaker 1 (23:15):
Like this, the heartbreak you feel, the emotion.

Speaker 3 (23:18):
Yeah, Emma Dossie is so good. That performance is incredible.

Speaker 2 (23:23):
Damon takes that instruction and he runs with it without
checking with a queen or anybody. He goes to Masaria
and strikes a deal and it says, okay, let's here's
what we're gonna do. I will not execute you. I
will allow you to go wherever you want to s
us whatever. In return for intelligence, I need help getting

(23:44):
into King's landing and finding someone who can get into
the Red Keep and kill Amon Targariant. Jase returns with
news from his embassies to the North and the Veil,
and both of those regions have come to their side.
The Veil will want to Dragon to patrol the area.
We can work that out later. But of course both
he and his mother are devastated, shattered. I love this

(24:07):
scene at the news of Luke's death and they embrace
and it's it's very, very sad.

Speaker 3 (24:13):
You get to see them as a family and a
mother and a son not involved in the Game of
Thrones at all. They don't in that moment. They're just broken,
And yeah, I thought that was really amazing. And my
favorite scene in the Hole show is actually coming up
next because it adds to my Allison bias.

Speaker 2 (24:33):
So after this, the Luke's funeral takes place on Dragonstone
with Jace holding Raina, they cremate Luke's remains. Meanwhile, in
King's landing, Allison is lighting candles for all of the fallen,
and she lights a candle for Luke, which I think
is very well of Alison.

Speaker 3 (24:50):
I just look. I know it's never gonna happen. I know,
even the smallest changes, as we are going to talk
about soon when we come to the end of this episode,
make people mad. They upset people, But I do they
have done such a good job adapting this book, which
is so depressing and nothing good is gonna come of it,
but I still end up when I watch scenes like that,

(25:14):
there is still a potential that feels like there could
be a hopeful ending, or that we would get Rinier
and Allison coming together and getting rid of all these
men who use them. It's not gonna happen, but that's
how good the writing is on this show, and how
good these subtle moments that Olivia Cook kind of presents
Alison as this more holistic human. Nobody's there to see

(25:35):
that She's not doing that for show. That's something that
matters to her, and I just thought that was such
a powerful moment.

Speaker 2 (25:41):
So Damon seeks a sure using Missari's info, and he
locates a certain captain of the City Watch who hates
the high towers. Pays this guy a lot of money
to locate a rat catcher, who are paired together the
city Watch captain and the rat catcher to go into

(26:04):
the Red Keep through the famous Tunnels of Magor in
order to find and locate and kill Aimon Targarian. What
if we can't find him, they ask, and Damon has
no answer on screen, but we would imagine that he
says something like just to kill anybody you find, or

(26:25):
especially if it's a prince Laya.

Speaker 3 (26:29):
We learn that. I think his exact words that we
don't hear are like, no gold without a head, so
you'll get If there's a head, you get gold. If
there's not a head, you don't get gold.

Speaker 2 (26:38):
Yeah. Aimond and Chris Cole are scheming. They're hanging out
in Amon's room scheming. They have an aggressive planet of attack.
This plan exists only in their heads, but they like,
we hit these little po dunk castles Rosby and Stokeworth
in the crown Lands, and we hit hair and Hall.

Speaker 1 (26:59):
And we take the river Le. We win the war.

Speaker 2 (27:02):
And they realize with frustration that no one wants them
to get involved, and Aimond is also pretty annoyed that
everybody's blaming him for starting it, which he did even
don't fuck up, Yes, I'm sorry you start started the
war again.

Speaker 3 (27:18):
I'm really loving these moments of showing how young and
childish these people are who are supposed to be in
charge of the kingdom. It's literally like they're sitting in
there doing like armchair sports commentary, like oh, you could
do this and then you know, have him do a
layup and and yeah, and it would be really great.
It's like, you guys don't know what you're talking about.
You literally have no idea. Kristen Cole, don't even get

(27:39):
me started on you. You're still just out here chatting
mad shit on Reniera. You're just still bitter.

Speaker 1 (27:44):
By the way.

Speaker 2 (27:45):
Amond also thinks that Alison, his mother, is soft and reneera,
which I think is an ominous thing for him to
think and could be close real uh problems for Alison.
He says of his mother, her grace speaks with two tongues,
and Kristen call is like, no, no, she's only talking
with one tongue, Like.

Speaker 3 (28:11):
How are they gonna so do they do? They do that? Okay,
so let me ask you this. Do the kids know?
Do the boys know that he is fucking the mom? Definitely? No?

Speaker 1 (28:21):
What is the only people? Claris? That's it? Nobody else feel.

Speaker 3 (28:28):
Like they would have. It's like funny because he's trying
to take on some like cool uncle roll like your
stepdad role, because I'm sure in his head he's like,
oh he's stepped up. Yeah, you know. He's like, let's
get this war over with them. We could just go
sell some oranges and Dawn you can be my orange
selling children. No.

Speaker 2 (28:45):
Otto comes to Amon's room, sees the boys hanging out
and is like, Chris Cole, go back to work.

Speaker 1 (28:50):
You're fucking on the class.

Speaker 3 (28:52):
He's like, what's wrong with you? Do you know what
the gold cloak is for? Like, do some fucking protecting? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (28:57):
Are you clocked out? No, go to fucking work. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (28:59):
And guess how he reads that situation. He does not
think he's meant to be during kids.

Speaker 1 (29:03):
Well, he does go to work, but he.

Speaker 2 (29:08):
Uh, Auto tells aimand stop planning ship stop, that we
need vgor at the capitol and that's it.

Speaker 1 (29:15):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (29:16):
Uh. Meanwhile, the city watchman blood and the rat catcher,
who we will call Cheese, even though that name is
never mentioned in the show, but that's the name in
the books. Blood and Cheese sneak into the castle and
after a little convincing, Cheese gets them to the upper
floors where the noble nobles live, where the royal family lives.

(29:37):
They have a whole different like a rat catcher Cadre
up there, but he would of which he's he's more
of a general castle rat catcher.

Speaker 3 (29:47):
So they're out there can just like walk around if
you got a rat catching trap. I listen, I didn't
think that's through.

Speaker 2 (29:53):
Well, listen, may Goor's tunnels are just a secure you
risk as we have seen. You know, look no further
than Tirian killing Taiwan on the shitter spoiler for a
Game of Thrones using the using the tunnels, It's like the.

Speaker 3 (30:08):
Tone is like giving Suwa yes, it's really just Sue's.

Speaker 2 (30:12):
So then Cheese manages to locate Queen Helena, who is
in her room with the sleeping prince and Princess Jaehara.
Jeharis and Jahara can't tell them part they're twins, but
they eventually do, uh get Helena to tell them which

(30:32):
one is Prince Jeharis and we don't see anything happen
on screen, but the audio team really earns their grizzly
payday because the sound of this scene is horrible and
very detailed. Queen Helena flees with Jihara, flees into Alison's

(30:53):
room where she is in flagrante delicto with Christian Cole
riding that hobbyhole or she is riding them, and the
news is breaking, she says, as Christen Cole is covering
himself and Alison is like, Helena, doesn't she said she
doesn't care. She says, they killed the boy and we end.

(31:15):
What a shocking episode.

Speaker 1 (31:17):
What a I didn't think they'd get to bloody.

Speaker 3 (31:20):
I don't think they were blood and she's this early.
But it's a very interesting I think this is a
very interesting version of Blood and Cheese. I personally really
liked it. I've been dreading this sequence because it is
very gruesome. In the book, it's very much about torturing women.
They hogtie Queen Allison, they kill a chambermaid, they threaten

(31:42):
to rape baby Jahara. So for me, this is actually
a great example of how House the Dragon is learning
from the mistakes of Game of Thrones past, because there
is a different version of this where we would see
Alison hogtiede, we'd see a dead baby, we'd hear them
do those threats. Instead, I feel like they leaned into
the spense and they made it about Helena's choice, which

(32:04):
is obviously a key part of the books. Jason, let
me ask you a question. She doesn't she hasn't given
birth the baby Meyler yet right in the show, No no,
So that's what I thought. So it may not even
happen exactly. So in the book, there's three kids and
something that I know a lot of our discord users
and some viewers were annoyed about or like felt didn't
hit as much is in the book. She chooses Maela

(32:27):
because he's the youngest and she thinks he won't remember.
And then they killed Jaharis anyway, and Mayla has to
grow up knowing that the mum chose Mayla to die.
But I think here they still do a great job
with Helena's choice because she has the option to lie
about which kid is which, and she chooses Jaharah and
I think she doesn't want Jaharahs to become king. She's

(32:48):
seen what it has done to her family, and I
think in that moment she makes a choice because people
will just leave her in Jaharah alone. They're women nobody.

Speaker 2 (32:55):
You raise a good point, which I think is that
there are two of changes, right from Fire and Blood.
There are changes that happen in between the pages. Right,
so Fire and Blood is written as a fictional history
from the perspective of several unreliable historians that we're living
in the world, some writing, most writing years after, but

(33:19):
a few with some contemporaneous accounts, And so there are
changes that happen that none of those unreliable historians quite
get right.

Speaker 1 (33:30):
And we can think.

Speaker 2 (33:31):
Of this as quote unquote the truth like Alison and
Christen Cole, that's really not in the books, so we
could assume, I guess if you're a book later, Hey,
I guess they maybe they got away with this. But
that's like a fun thing that doesn't really change the books,
but can happen and work within the books. And then
there are things that are pure changes, like like what

(33:53):
we're talking about here, where it's not you know, the
actual makeup of the king's families is different than it
was previously. And I think that one of the things
you're noting and we're noticing here is that it's very
possible that Fire and Listen, this is a story about
how this realm is biased against women, and the historians

(34:16):
that chronicle this realm are part of that. And I
think when you read Fire and Blood and watch the show,
one of the things I come away with is the
feeling that like, women get a real bad rap and
don't either get noticed in the histories or you know,
particularly rania Is will be like depicted as this, like raging,

(34:37):
like murderous shrew conniving, all this kind of stuff. And
so it's no surprise that the behavior of our queens,
our princesses is significantly different in the show and much
more flesh out, because they're the things they're doing are
either ignored by history or are framed in the worst

(34:58):
possible life exactly.

Speaker 3 (35:00):
And I think for me, I actually wrote an article
about this on for IgM, which you can read. I
felt like this was one of the changes that makes
the show differentiate itself from Game of Thrones. I don't
need to see a kid's head get calf, I don't
need to see Alison get humiliated again when this is
actually a much crueler fate for Allison than losing one

(35:22):
of her bed chamber maids, which, by the way, has
got to be like the most dangerous job in kingslanding.
Oh my god, to be a chambermaid, you're always getting killed.
So I didn't need to see that. I didn't need
to see Alison being humiliated and having to watch this
because really, now Allison has to live with the fact
that if Kristin Cole had been doing his fucking job

(35:42):
and not doing a job fucking her, that her grandson
and the heir could have lived. So I think this
is actually a very cool, interesting take. Also been very
interested to see how people who haven't read the books
found it really shocking and horrific, and people who have
read it, I don't think it's bad enough, which I
think that's a really interesting that I caught me.

Speaker 1 (36:04):
I agree.

Speaker 2 (36:06):
Can't wait to talk more about this show. We will
of course be covering House of Dragon on a week
to week basis, so stay tuned. Welcome to another edition

(36:32):
of the Omnibus, where lore, analysis and understanding come together
today to talk about that wonderful new intro new animated
intro for season two of House of the dragon. The
tapestry depicted there in the intro gives us a targarian

(36:53):
centric history of the family and its origins in Old Volley,
which was a region of Esauce the Eastern Continent that
was filled with volcanoes and was the home to the
dragon lords, the Valerian dragon lords that then went out
to dominate the Eastern Continent. So the tapestry starts with

(37:18):
a panel that appears to show I believe it to
be necromancers who are taming the dragons. Now exactly how
the Valerians tamed dragons and discover them is unclear. All
of that was going swimmingly until the Doom of Valaria
that is depicted in a panel showing lightning coming from

(37:42):
the volcanoes and coming down from clouds and dragons of
flame falling out of the sky. The earth cracked open
the Doom of Valeria. It is described as essentially a
chain of explosions emanating from the volcanoes that consumed the

(38:02):
entire region, all of the nation of Valeria. Why this happened,
perhaps the necromancers were dabbling with magic that they could
not control. Whatever the case may be, everybody and everything
in Valeria was wiped out and the region was cast

(38:23):
into a toxic darkness that continues to this day. We
saw in Game of Thrones Tyrian travel to the kind
of edges of old Valeria where Stonemen people with various
illnesses reside, and it's a cursed area. Nobody goes there anymore.

(38:43):
The Targarians, however, escaped, and we see in another panel
the migration of the Targarians. They migrated because, as we
have seen in this both seasons of House of the Dragon,
the Targerians are touched by the gift of prophecy. Helena
has uttered many prophetic statements, although no one has noticed

(39:03):
as of yet. And it was a ancestor of this family,
Danis the Dreamer who had a dream that something terrible
would befall Valeria, would be destroyed and everyone there would die.
And so she convinced her family that they needed to
move west, and they packed up all their dragons, all

(39:24):
their servants, all their belongings. They moved west and they
settled on Dragonstone, which was at that time the westernmost
outpost of the Valarian Empire, and they alone, of.

Speaker 1 (39:36):
The Dragon Lord, survived.

Speaker 2 (39:39):
Then we see Egon's conquest a panel depicting Egon's conquests,
of course, is a famous event. Eggon the conqueror set
out with his two sisters, and they conquered the entire
kingdom of Westros, the entire continent, excuse me of Westros,

(39:59):
because of the power mainly of their three dragons, one
of which is still alive today.

Speaker 1 (40:06):
By the way Vagar.

Speaker 2 (40:08):
Now we see a battle of famous event part of
this conquest, the burning of Heron Hall. Hair in the
Black was an iron born king raider who had you know,
the ironborn are continuously raiding into the riverlands and the
coast in general, and the riverlands is often a very

(40:29):
fractious area, and hair in the Black was able to
put down roots there. He carved out a kingdom of
his own right there in the riverlands, and he enslaved
a lot of people in the popular in the region
to build his castle called Herron Hall, which you know,
we know of today as a ruin, but back then

(40:51):
it was you know, under construction for many decades, but
it was the biggest castle in the entire continent, and
all of Westros, like you know, dozens and dozens of
hearths and many many halls and YadA, YadA YadA, and
Hair in the Black sat in his fortress when Eggon

(41:13):
sent his messengers out saying, you know, ben the near
and become part of the United westros to dry and
he was like, my huge, humongous, brand new castle.

Speaker 1 (41:23):
Will protect me.

Speaker 2 (41:24):
And of course it didn't, because you know, Egon came
down on it with fire and melted the castle around
Hair and the Black and his sons, and that is
depicted there in one of the panels. Then we see
another famous event from Egon's conquest, which is the surrender
of Torren Stark, the king in the North. This is
the event that basically ended the war, basically ended Egon's

(41:48):
conquests and gave him control of the region. Then we
see this panel that shows a target Aia and we
can tell because of this the pale hair, the silvery hair,
Targarian king dead and bloody.

Speaker 1 (42:03):
On the throne.

Speaker 2 (42:04):
This is the end of Magor, the Cruel. Magor the Cruel,
the third Targarian king after Eggon and then Anus second
Targeer and king anus Ae Nys Targarian then came Megor
magor usurped the throne. He was a despot. He ruled

(42:26):
by fear. He was very aggravated because he had issues
siring children and this really infuriated him. All his kids
were coming out deformed, and MegaR was like, I'm gonna
take multiple wives because I need to make a successor.

Speaker 1 (42:46):
None of that happened.

Speaker 2 (42:47):
Everybody hated him, and at the end of this tyranny,
Magor was discovered one day on the throne with the
blades of the throne impaled through his body.

Speaker 1 (43:01):
How did this happen? Why did this come to be?
It's very mysterious. We don't know.

Speaker 2 (43:05):
Of course, you can't avoid the metaphor itself, which is
very strong that the realm as an entity, you know,
rejected Magor and his evil depravity. So that's a really
cool moment to picted here in this tapestry. Then we
see something that we've seen already, that we saw early

(43:25):
in season one, the first thing we saw in season
one of House of the Dragon. It's the Great Council
of one oh one, which occurred late in the old
King Jaharis the Conciliator's reign. He, like many a targarian
before and after him, had trouble, you know, finding a
viable successor, and so towards the end of his reign,

(43:47):
he gathered all the lords and ladies together at Heron Hall,
which is the only place big enough to hold everyone,
and they all voted on who would be the next
ruler of Wests, and of course it's Visas Targarian one.

Speaker 1 (44:02):
Then we've got this wonderful.

Speaker 2 (44:04):
Image of the split, the black green split, that brings
us into the show proper. You see all the Green
side of the family sitting on one side of a table,
and then there's another table across, like a kind of divide,
and that's all the Black side of the family, the
Vernia side versus the high Tower side, auto High Tower

(44:25):
and Allison and her children.

Speaker 1 (44:27):
And that brings us up to date.

Speaker 2 (44:28):
Now what's really cool is this tapestry is clearly inspired by.

Speaker 1 (44:35):
A real.

Speaker 2 (44:37):
Thing, an actual tapestry that exists. This is the Bayou Chapestry,
nearly seventy meters long two hundred and thirty feet long,
and this tapestry depicts the events surrounding the Battle of
Hastings in ten sixty six, which was the battle in
which William, Duke of Normandy, which is a region of France,

(45:00):
conquered England and became King of England. It is, you know,
a very very early work of political propaganda. We don't
quite know who commissioned it and why, although there are
some strong theories, one of them being that it was
commissioned by Bishop Odo of Bayu, the half brother of
William the Conqueror, in order to tell his story. And

(45:23):
it is really really cool. Check it out, because there's
the Bayou Museum has a has all the panels of
the tapestry digitized and you can go in and you
can look at the tapestry meter by meter and it
is super super cool. And that's it.

Speaker 1 (45:44):
Let's go to the back matter.

Speaker 2 (45:46):
We like to end the show with various kinds of
fast moving segments, and for this back matter, let's do
a scoreboard. Let's you know the so much of the
marketing around How's the Dragon has been about Team Black,
Team Green, who's winning, but he think's winning? After this episode, Rosie.

Speaker 3 (46:05):
Okay, so quality of life wise, Alison is winning. Al winning.
She is not worried about the war. She's got time
to go and light a candle. She is not yet grieving.
She's getting pleasured by Kristen Cole, who I guess now
is happy to be a lover. Oh okay, after all that, okay,
so and and I think that she is definitely living

(46:27):
the best life. Her family is intact, she's winning over
Otto like. She definitely is coming up top of the
odds for this episode. Uh Rania, I think you're right.
They need to get some kind of coach in there
help her out. It's not Damon he is. Actually I
would say Team Black is on the outs right now
because of Damon's stupid choice, because the can you imagine

(46:49):
the fallout that there is going to be. Because also
you can argue, you can argue that Aimond was a
kid who made a mistake and he couldn't control Vaga.
You cannot argue that the assassins went in there by
mistake and killed Harris.

Speaker 1 (47:00):
Yeah, I think that. Listen again, I love my Blacks,
I love Raniera. You want more from the team that
you're rooting for.

Speaker 2 (47:08):
I very, very sadly have to say that Team Green
they have the better infrastructure. They have people in place
like Auto, like Amon Sadly, like Kristen Cole Sadly, who
are like Laris, who are good at their roles and
are doing it. Eggon is trying to do this that

(47:28):
and the other bad thing. And there are multiple people
there who are like, no, don't do that, No, don't
do that. Here's a better way to do it.

Speaker 1 (47:34):
Here's over.

Speaker 2 (47:36):
You go to the Black Small Council and it's headless.
Raniera is gone. Damon is out there ordering people around.
Only Rayne, who's like, you're not king, you can't tell
me what to do, is able to like resist him.
And he's out here running plays for himself and.

Speaker 3 (47:53):
Actually giving Renee they should be giving Renee more power.
Is working and what is the supply?

Speaker 2 (48:00):
The fallout for this will remain to be seen. But
I think you're right. I think Damon has I think
Damon has hurt Rania. And at the end of the day,
the buck stops with Raniera.

Speaker 3 (48:18):
Damon.

Speaker 2 (48:19):
One thing we know about him is his key. He's
chaotic and unpredictable. Rania leaving town and and giving one word,
one name as a direction and then piecing out open
the door for Damon to affect this war in a
terrible way. And I just want Raniera and Team Black

(48:40):
to get it together. And sadly it's Team.

Speaker 1 (48:43):
Green on the scoreboard right now.

Speaker 3 (48:44):
They are on the scoreboard right now.

Speaker 1 (48:46):
In Thursday's episode of Extra Envision will highlights.

Speaker 2 (48:48):

feature dragons or Triedie and of course we're diving into
the Acolyte episode four.
