Speaker 2 (00:53):
In today's episode, in the add look it Housed the
Dragon Episode three, Whoop? What's going on in West Ross?
You're gonna find out there's a lot of drama, lot
Shenanigan's lot of betrayal and reunion I'm pretty excited about.
In the omnibus, Jason is going to talk about big
swing hand of the King picks, who are they? Who?
(01:15):
Where's the president for Kristin cole as number on Kristin Cole. Hey,
I'm asking the question and Jason is going to answer it.
And in the scoreboard, will Team Black finally put a
point on the board. After this episode, we'll have to
wait and see.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
But first House of the Dragon episode three, we open
on the Riverlands where these century centuries long feud between
the Brackens sworn to egg On and the Blackwoods, sworn
to Renier, reignites over a small issue of where the
(01:50):
border Cairn pile of stones is located, and the result
is thousands of deaths in a skirmish that quickly evolves
into a major battle. The war has now truly begun,
and I think most troubling to all sides. It began
all on its own, without anybody doing anything. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
That's the impact of this kind of beef that they
never really realized is it's giving people free reign to
just do what they want feuds and do what they
want in the name of the Queen Dragonstone. Eric and
Eric Rip they're buried together. They came into the world
together and now they share the same grave. My friend
Gavin Mattz, the comedian Gavin Matts was like, Eric and
(02:34):
Eric are like. It's like when people say talk to
your family, like about Trump or about politics or whatever,
and what ends up happened? We both end up dead, Okay,
And can we just get a bit of clarification see
it as you are our official master and also official
house dragon pod. Who died first, who died lost, and
(02:57):
who killed themselves, because that's been a huge topic of
conversation and the disquote out online.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
Sure, so again this is Eric and Eric Eric a
for Allison died first. Eric slayed Eric. Now you could
kind of tell them apart during the fight sort of,
even though it was like very confusing because Eric wounded
Eric in the thigh, in the leg. So that's how
(03:22):
you can kind of tell who quote unquote won at
the end. And as for why Eric decided to kill
himself afterwards, One, this was a terribly traumatic and awful
thing that he had to do. Two, the negative connotation
of kin slaying is quite strong, of course in Westros
(03:42):
and other places in this world, and it doesn't get
more kin slang than killing your twin. And I think
after that, Eric just couldn't live with the way that
he would be looked at in this world, despite the
fact that I'm sure Renier would have ordered him incredibly handsomely,
but he would have been looked at as a kinsler
(04:04):
and probably called behind his back a kinslaer, and that,
coupled with the awful reality of what he just did,
made it so he couldn't live with himself.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Yeah, I also saw another thing I saw that I
liked was people saying like he was also probably aware
of the fact that Venera would never like truly know
which twin he was. I mean, you know, so there
was there would always be people kind of coming in
and saying like, well, maybe he's just pretending till he
(04:35):
can get close to you. And I think there's like
so many levels to it.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
I mean, but you could have this is this is
one of those things where you I really again, we're
team black, right yeah, and that said, but like, why
not change the color of the cloaks, how about different uniforms,
how about having a password system, understanding how about like.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
A helmet that had some goals on it in a
specific play.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Understanding that this twin issue is out there. So I
think that one thing. Listen, I understand that theory. It's
quite interesting, but I think like that could have been
cleared up. You just like be like, hey, so what
did we do? What do we watch on the TV?
And the common the night the first night we all
came to dragons, you know, like I think that there's yeah, yeah, yeah,
(05:21):
like figure out which one is which.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Imagine if they were that sensible.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
Anyway, So we're Eric and Eric are being buried, and
Jace wants to hit back. He wants action. Rene counsels
Raniera to move quickly to make peace before this gets complete.
It's already almost out of control and if we can't,
this might be the last opportunity we have to find
an off ramp for this. So Raniera, Renie says, you
(05:50):
need to. You need to figure out a way out
before the dragons start killing each other and all the
young folks, the you know, the Skins, the young how
the skin's the next generation kids here like start running
things and this thing takes on a logic of its own.
You need to reach out to Allison, she says. Rania says,
(06:11):
you know what, my former bestie Allison sent me a
raven after Luke's death. But I have not read it.
I can't bring myself to read it.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
Feel like you should have read it. Also, can I
just say Renie out here again proving that she should
have been Queen all along, the most sensible person in Westross.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
And again, I hate to I can't imagine what Vernia
is going through to lose the sun in that way.
At the same time as a head of state, when
you receive a letter from another head of state and
you're actively in a w you're.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
Currently in war. I feel like you should read it.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
You gotta read it, you gotta open it right away.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
Or just like have someone else read it. It's still
emotional for you have someone else read it, but like
somebody's gonna read it, like someone is the raven just
chilling that with the little like scroll still in its leg.
If you have to read it, like, please read it.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
We go to King's Landing where Chris Cole is shitting
his pants. Listen, first tough. We all get that first
day at a new school. First day at it's tough.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
Scary times and Cole.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
You know, the vibe you get from looking at Cole
as he's trying to psych himself up to go in
that room for the small council meeting is that he
understands that he's not up to this, and he knows
that everybody in that room is looking at him like
you're not up to this. That said, he has one
big cheerleader and it's Eggon Egon.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
The two bros. They just believe in each other man.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
The King, meanwhile, has hired some new white cloaks to
replace the recent losses like Sir Eric whose death Jasper
the Iron rod Wild Master of Laws and Allison placed
directly at Cole's feet. They say, this is your phone
correctly so On And this is where I say I
(07:59):
hate Christen Cole. We all know it. I've said it
many times. One thing, here's what I love. I love
the scenes in this episode between Cole and Allison when
they're in larger groups, because it is so true to life.
They just want to be fucking like that's what they
want to be doing.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
But you do support them when that fu I will say,
you are your life, yours, be all the chemistry and
enjoy enjoy this.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
But because but they can't just do that whenever and
they have public facing jobs. All they do in these
meetings when they talk to each other is just like
bitching each other. Oh, well, who's fucking fault was sending
Sir Eric lost good kids and that was a good,
good job, Kristen Cole, Oh what are you gonna do now?
What's your next move? And it's just like they're just
(08:45):
bitching at each other. It's so great.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
If people didn't know, they know now that's right.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
Eggon is thrilled that war appears to have finally broken
out in the Riverlands, and he's claiming the Battle of
the Burning Mill as it's called as a green victory.
Is well, let's just fucking say we won. But now
the region being you know, submerged in chaos, needs to
be taken under control. Cole says, Okay, here's here's what
(09:13):
I propose. I will assemble a force here. I will
ride into the riverlands, building my army as we go,
take heron Hall, take control of the riverlands being Bam, movem.
It's done. Alison and Cole, you know, go back at
Alison's like, oh yeah, fucking incredible. What a smart idea.
The King's guard is like on its ass, and you say,
(09:35):
why don't I leave the king? Why don't I just go?
What a fucking great idea. All the battles that we've
everything move we try to make is come back on it,
and now you want to do this. Eggon meanwhile, is like, hey,
great idea, and I'll get on Sunfire and I'll come too,
I'll get involved.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
What this kid needs to understand you can't be going
out on the dragon when you are the king. I'm
sorry you lost that fum part of your life now, sir,
is not gonna happen for you, especially not while your
mom is still alive. Like, it's not happening for you.
I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (10:08):
The whole room is like no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
no no.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
Every time he's like, what if I got on a
dragon and everyone's like no.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
Amon, uh, you know, it's like, hey, big bro, you're
so tough. You're like everybody, you're a tough guy. Wow. Great, wow, great,
But don't no need for that. Just stay home.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
We're going to take a quick break and we'll be
right back, and we're.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
Back on Dragonstone. Rania hires Massaria as her master.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
Meanwhile, Sea Smoke is continue to be irritated. Is like
wheeling over the sea and screaming and yelping, and Massaria
is like, did they always act like this? Just like no,
this is just kind of like a recent thing. And
so clearly Sea smoke is is feeling frustrated and feeling strange.
Now we should note that Sea Smoke is a dragon,
(11:16):
you know, the dragon. The bond between dragon and rider
is magical and only ends with death. But of course
Lenor is not dead. He just has left the scene.
So perhaps yeah, perhaps that's some of the frustration.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
Then oh, that's a great call, like he can sense
Layah or sense that that bond is still that Also,
I'm really happy. I was definitely one of my big
wishes for this season after the last episode was that
Vernera would hire Massaria, So I'm very happy that that
ended up, and that kind of confirms what we thought,
which was Massaria obviously got word back to the castle
(11:52):
about the Eric Eric switcheros.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
With like actual battle seeming more and more likely and
in fact having taken place, Queen decides, well, maybe not
the move that my small council wanted, but I think
a necessary move anyway. She decides to send the youngest
and the most vulnerable, young Jeoffrey, even younger egg On
and little Visas to Jane Aaron in the Veil in
(12:18):
exchange for the Veil's support. Jeoffrey will stay there, Eggan
and a Visas will get on a boat and go
to Pentoss, and Raniera says Reina, why don't you accompany them?
Reina is pissed and frustrated anyway, because Bele gets to
ride a dragon and Rena doesn't really have one, and
(12:39):
now she's getting put in babysitter duty, but she begrudgingly agrees,
and the Queen says, and just to show you what
a sensitive mission is, this is, and she overtly says,
like this is in case it goes bad here like
you're the future, you will be shepherd in the future
for it. She also gives her a case of of
(13:00):
dragon eggs, four dragon eggs. And here's where we wonder, openly, Rosie,
are these the eggs that get to Denaris? That's what
it feels like, right a century and a half plus later.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
I feel like this show does a really, really great
job of playing it small, playing it within the world,
playing it within the timeline. And it's very rare that
we get any big kind of easter egg moments or
big moments where you could write an article that's like
this just changed a huge part of Game of Thrones law,
as we so often write articles like that, But this moment,
(13:35):
a chest of eggs. How can we not think that?
How is that not what we wonder? Especially going to
the Arrans and going to the veil, which is such
a big part of Game of Thrones law, very interesting.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
And Denaris picks them up and pent Us when she's
gifted them as part of her wedding dowry. Now there
were only three eggs when she got to him. They're
had a black, a red, and like a green and
those colors are there four eggs in the carrier, but
with the blue added to that. So I guess the
(14:08):
blue gets lost somewhere along the way. But if these
are indeed those eggs very very interesting. Yes, Damon flies
to heron Hall and the pouring rain all alone on Karaxies.
And maybe we should have listened to Damon earlier, because
he manages to take heron Hall, which is very lightly
held from the castle Lands. For Simon Strong, who is
(14:30):
fed up with Laris Strongs double dealings and is quite
eager to give it up. Hates Laris and in fact
rightly blames Laris for the deaths of Lionel and Harwin,
who died by fire in a castle that is like
so water logged that it is a danger to everyone,
(14:53):
Like there's just water constantly dripping from everywhere from the
high ceilings. This must be the most the castle in
all of westrous Damon asks Simon to summon the Lord
Paramount of the Riverlands, Lord Grover Tully, to Heron Hall
so that he can make a deal to claim the
forty thousand soldiers that are to this point undeclared. They're
(15:18):
free agents in the Riverlands and he can win them
to rhneer side with the Tullies and the Riverlands. Damon
then plans to march to King's Landing to quote take
the throne. And it's also very notable that in these
conversations he keeps insisting that he is not just the
king consort but the king he makes I'm saying, Simon,
call him your grace, and it's this is very interesting.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
Yeah, what's the plan, head, Like, what are the odds
that if Damon took hypothetically, let's say this plan goes well,
he doesn't ruin it with his chaotic behavior, he takes
the throne at King's Landing, what are the chances that
he doesn't then declare against Ranera and isn't like, hey,
I'm the rightful king anyway, Like I'm not worried about you.
Speaker 1 (16:02):
I personally think at this point that Damon is just
showing off with the your grace stuff. He wants the
respect that is afforded to him as king, but that
in his heart much like the kind of gossip and
rumors that were flying around during Visas's reign, where everybody's like, oh,
(16:24):
what if Damon usurps the throne from Visara's I don't,
and he and we all understood that Actually he never
wanted to do that. He just wanted to be close
to his brother. I think similarly here Raniera is his
beloved brother's choice of successor. He failed Raniera spectacularly with
this scity.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
This is like he could be like trying to get
get back in a good grace there.
Speaker 1 (16:48):
Yeah, I think he's trying to make it right in
his way. He's like, I'm going to go off. I look,
I got heron Hall from Nira and uh yes, I'm
calling myself king. But I'm gonna make it right. I'm
gonna get this me together.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
I'm gonna make her and I'm gonna be your kid.
Speaker 1 (17:02):
And I think that's what he's thinking, though it's still
quite provocative to make people call you your grace, Sirguayne
high Tower, Allison's very fancy brother arrives in the capitol
and attaches himself to Christopher Cole's army. Kristen Cole, I
call him Christopher Chris Cole's Army like that, yeah, you're
(17:25):
like Christopher Cole, Christy Cole. Chris is annoyed by this,
but what can he do? Also some more flirting between
Alison and Cole. Cold Allison is like saying, well, don't
get yourself killed, okay, whatever, and then he waits for
her to turn around and he's like, uh uh you Grace,
if I might get I have one request with the Queen,
(17:47):
if I might get the Queen's favor.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
I've seen I've seen a night's tale. I know what
that means.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
And Alison goes into her bosom and takes out her
some rag and he gives it, and she gives it
to Christin Cole, who is delighted to get it, and
they both pretend like they're not lusting for each other anyway.
Off Kristin Cole with Gwyn High Tower and Togo with
(18:16):
the beginnings of this Green Army, Rainy's reports that so
far Team Green does not seem to be mobilizing to
strike back in the wake of the death of Prince
Jim Harris. Meanwhile, Prince Damon nobody knows where he's at
the small council meeting is like what about Damon? And
he did the army thing going well, like.
Speaker 2 (18:33):
What's how's a guy?
Speaker 1 (18:34):
Yeah, and there's like and Rener's like whoa, we have
no word from him, and Raynier's really having trouble reigning
her counsel in right now because they all want to
go to war like immediately with all the dragons, like
send them all. And I have to say, it makes
a kind of sense, Rosie, doesn't it?
Speaker 3 (18:50):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (18:50):
I do. I feel like they haven't been utilizing the dragon.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
Here's the thing there is, Okay, Vegar is huge, right
you have to figure that, you know, not knowing Eggon's personality,
that the Greens would be loath to put Sunfire into action.
And then there's Darren the daring with Tsarion, so it's
like not and and he's quite young. So three dragons
(19:17):
to the multitude of dragons that the Blacks have, even
though many of them are small, and only Maylei really
is battle ready. Kratzi's too, but Cratzi's is like off
the board because nobody knows where Damon is. But it
kind of makes sense to just like send all the
dragons and spread them out and just burn a bunch
of like green stuff because like vegar can only be
(19:38):
in one place.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
Even like don't burn it, like just send them out, Yeah,
and like be seen riding them around. Also, I want
to say again, like I do feel let's put it
out there with saying it so much recently. We are
team Black, right. We love Ranera, she's the rightful. Alison
is a us uper as much as I love her,
and I'm an Allison apologist, But like Rianera, this is
what happens when you just go a like the amount
(20:01):
you just lost control of everything in those like five
days that you had to go and grieve, And I'm
sorry because you should have been able to grieve. That
is horrible what happened to your son. But the reality
of this seven Kingdoms is like you cannot be doing
that because apparently now nobody listens to you anymore. Your queen,
it's very queen, and nobody listens to you.
Speaker 1 (20:22):
So Rhaniers is the thing that nobody wants to hear
at this point, which is we gotta wait, except for
Rainie's was the only one who's like, yeah, we should
wait because we've got Raina going to the veil with
the kids to forge that deal to get the Veil's
army on our side. And of course we're waiting for
the Graybeards to march down from the north, although you know,
Westress is the size of like South America, so it
(20:44):
is going to take them a while to walk down here.
But like we're waiting on that, so let's continue to wait.
And it's very fortunate that Rainie is, you know, fortunate
for Ranira that Ranie is her advocate on the council.
And her voice carries a lot of weight, and she
says basically like hey, you know, Arniera is cut from
the same cloth as j Harris, the conciliator who's crown,
she wears, and like let her get her footing, She'll
(21:07):
be all right.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
Nice once again, provis she's the most powerful woman in
wester Ross, like come on.
Speaker 1 (21:11):
Please Later, she brings some lunch to Corlis down at
the down at the dockyards is a wonderful scene, and
Corlis is like, why are we doing anything? Like what's
going on?
Speaker 2 (21:21):
Have we got some dragons? Do we still have them?
Speaker 1 (21:23):
Are small councils? Like got its head up its ass? Well,
what's going on? Nice then asks Corlis to make raina
the air to drift Mark instead of six year old Jeoffrey.
And she says, you know what, actually, Queen Raniera actually
would be psyched if you did that, like she would,
she would not have a problem with it, and think
about it. Carlos is like, I don't know. It's like
(21:45):
Jeoffrey doesn't know anything about the sea, but Raina doesn't
know anything about the sea either, Like I'm looking like,
what are your sea qualifications? Do you know?
Speaker 2 (21:54):
You know? Like I'm like, I feel like Corley should
have I'm like, sah, do you know who You're wife is?
You should have done this anyway. This should have been
like a statement you were making a long time ago.
This has been a recurring issue throughout Rene's life than
Rania's life, Like we need more people setting precedent for women.
Speaker 1 (22:13):
Being as Rena and the kids head off along with
a pair of baby dragons, Bayla's trying to be like, hey, listen,
this is really important what you're doing, Like even though
Raina it's not good, sister, yeah, yeah, like we gotta
we need the veil, Like on our side, this is
a huge deal. And you've got like the kids, this
is the future generations and you've got the dream, You've
(22:34):
got the eggs, also like this is a big deal. Later,
Helena speaks with Alison about all the recent tragedies. This
is really sad because Helena is like being like, well,
deaths happen. I guess I should get used to it,
and Alice it's like, no, like you don't. You're going
through a lot. And then Helena gives one of her
(22:55):
classic Helena non sequiturs that seemingly means something even though
nobody really picks it up. She says that, you know,
out of nowhere to Alison, like that she forgives her
for what. Alison, of course, is taking this to mean
that on some level, Helena believes that Alison is responsible
for the death of Prince.
Speaker 2 (23:13):
Jah Harrison, seeing as you know she was having sex
with Kristen Cola.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
And it feels that so that's a very powerful thing
for Alice.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
Okay, so I was going to ask you, so for
you does this more have the way of she's forgiving
her for something in the future kind of as a
Helena premonition.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
It could be I think that there are any number
of things that could happen in the future that Elena
might potentially accept Allison's apology for that said, I think
it is. I think that Allison and you are right
in that Helena is essentially taking the weight off Alison's
mind by by saying like, I don't think that you
(23:52):
meant to have Prince jih Harris because you were, Yeah,
because you were playing with the future hand. We meet
up with King Eggon, who is putting on egg On
the conquerors Valerian armor in preparation of joining Kristen Cole's army.
His new King's Guard bros his like his good buddies
(24:13):
that he hired to the King's ard all yeah.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
Is that just just like the guys he's chilling drinking with.
H He's like, yeah, baby, we're going on a wall.
We're going on a wall, baby, bros On Tall boys on.
Speaker 1 (24:25):
Tall Now there are white cloaks, you know, and they're like, yeah,
a great idea. Laris walks in, he's young, hot lord,
what the fuck is this? And he you know, he
says to one of the King's guard, like, I would
think it would be all to all of our benefit
to not see the king lose his life and his
body parts torn apart and strewn across a battlefield. What
(24:45):
do you think, you fucking idiots? So he goes pulls
a king aside, and it is like, I have to
talk the king out of this. So he basically says, listen,
a couple of rumors flying around. Two versions of the
same rumor flying around King's landing right now. First version
of the rumor is King's flying off on sunfire to
accompany Christian Coal. What a brave, courageous and wise king
(25:07):
we have. Second rumor is the king has been tricked
to fly off on sunfire and accompany christ and Coal
away from the capitol so that his mother, Allison, and
his baby brother Amond can rule in the capitol. While he.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
Gandalous, I'm hearing it. I can't tell you where, I
can't source it, but I'm hearing people are saying it.
Speaker 1 (25:30):
So that second rumor really resonates with egg On, who
then changes his mind. It's like, oh, you know what,
I'll stick around. I guess I guess I can stay.
I guess I can keep my hand on the wheel here.
And then he says, and you know what, Laris, I
need a master of whispers. I think you're the man
for the job. And Larius.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
Larius is like, that's exactly why I wanted to also
has to say, you know what, I hate to hand
it to him because he is a gross evil guy.
But Grris knows what he's doing. He's definitely up there.
One of the best things about Game of Thrones we're
seeing the different ways the people played the Game of
Thrones and kind of tried to, you know, get a
handle on the wheel. And I think Laris is a
(26:14):
really nice throwback to that Game of Throne style of
is the most powerful person in the city, someone that
you would never expect, and Laris the fact he could
just go in there and completely change the king's mind
when other people couldn't suggest that, yes, he is one
of the most powerful people, even though you might not
expect it.
Speaker 1 (26:35):
So, rather than flying off on his dragon to battle,
the king decides, we're going out. We're going to the clubs.
I'm taking my boys, I'm taking my king table, We're
going to get table service, bottle service. They as they
go into an establishment, they interrupt a man who is
claiming to be and this is the first time we
(26:55):
hear this word in the show. A Dragon's a Turkey bastard.
He claims to be the uh, the bastard son of
bail and the Brave, who of course was the father
of Vesaras and Damon, making him half brother to the
king and Prince Damon and you know, related to every
(27:16):
person seemingly involved in this civil war. And just when
he is like, he's calling Rania, like, I think his niece.
You know, he's black, and you know, the only true
ruler of the realm is my niece, my beautiful baby niece, Ranier.
And just then with and everything goes silent, and this
(27:38):
guy's thinking, fuck, I'm about to get killed, but no,
it's actually the king is here. And the King begins
throwing money around. They start drinking, getting super drunk. They
go from there to the to a sex club, to
a brothel, lots of suns happening all over the place.
Speaker 2 (27:54):
The sex is happening. It's the having sex, having sex,
having sex everywhere.
Speaker 1 (27:59):
Egon back because this is the he's the king. So
what does the king love to do is just look
in every room where people are coupling as AUTOHI, which
is like a sleazy thing to do. But he's the king,
I guess. And he pulls back the curtain and there
is his brother Aimond in the arms of Madam Sylvie,
(28:20):
and Eggon immediately, who's going super drunk, starts making fun
of amend for sleeping with this older woman. Aimed, for
his part, pretends, you know, we've seen how warmly he
engages with Madame Sylvie, this kind of motherly way that
he but instead like he immediately goes cold and just
(28:44):
pretends like he doesn't care about this woman. And he
you knows, like, oh, you know, like anybody could have
her whatever, and he walks off. Raniera is kind of,
you know, like pacing around her chambers, and then finally
she opens up the little jeweler box where she has
Alison's letters, and it's like, I guess I should fucking
read these things.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
Oh, I wonder why you are keeping it in a
very special place. Seems gay to me. Why is it
so important to you?
Speaker 1 (29:11):
Which we don't have the full text of, but you
can kind of see over her shoulder, it's clear that
Allison is expressing remorse for Luke's death. We go to
the river lands where Bayla is patrolling at the Queen's order.
She's high up in the air as the Queen asked
her to be, but then down low she spots Cole
and Sir Gawayne and a small party. They're away from
(29:32):
the army. They've ridden off because they're going to a
nearby keep so that they could, you know, have some
drinks and enjoy themselves. She gives chase, but the Greens
get away, and then she returns to Dragonstone to say, hey,
I saw Chris and Cole. Greens are on the march.
The Black Council wants Raniera to loose the dragons on
Cole's army because now we know that they're moving, we
(29:55):
got to do They're in the open, like we got
to do something. And Raniera is like, uh yeah, let
me sleep on it. And by the way, Beila, didn't
I tell you to say hi? Why did you go
so long? Like how did you know it was Kristen Cole?
And she was like, well, because I like went ten
feet from them and I down the ground, I saw
them and like I and listen, I was thinking, uh,
(30:15):
maybe I could strike a blow right here, like maybe
I'll take him out. Damon in Harron Hall has a vision,
very very spooky yeah dream slash vision of young Rania
the princess is on the you know, she's like knelt
on the floor and she's cradling the dead prince Jaharis,
and she's like sewing his head back on, and all
(30:37):
the while she is saying, essentially that she's always having
to clean up Damon's messes and look what he's done.
When Damon wakes up, he finds himself in the gods
wood of Heron Hall, which is a beautiful ruined area
in front of the Heart Tree that overlooks the gods,
the big old mysterious gods I like, And he's standing
(31:01):
there with a woman who they don't mention her name,
but this is for book readers. This is got to
be Alice Rivers. And she says to Damon, you will
die in this place, and then she walks off, which
is wow, what a thing to say.
Speaker 2 (31:16):
Okay, sure, okay, So let me let me ask you.
Is he having the visions because he is in Haroen Hall?
Speaker 1 (31:26):
Like?
Speaker 2 (31:26):
Is it the cursed energy of Haroen Hall? Is this
like his own guilt? Do you feel like there's obviously
without spoilers, is this supernatural? Is this Helena esque premonitions?
Is this Tagaria madness?
Speaker 1 (31:39):
Like?
Speaker 2 (31:39):
What are the vibes you're getting from this this episode.
Speaker 1 (31:42):
I think this is supernatural, very clearly, and I have
a theory and I'll save it for later. I don't
want to. I think it goes too deep for now.
But ok yeah, Rania, with Missaria's aid, in a huge
diversion from the books, an event that the books don't cover,
(32:04):
hatches a hail Mary plan to avert all out war.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
Does that mean it was a really really good plan?
I think that's what history was able to. I think
this remains secret to this, to to later historians. So Raniera,
taking only Sir Stephan Darkland, her sworn sword, member of
the Queen's Guard with her all in disguise. With Raniera
disguised as Scepta.
Speaker 1 (32:26):
Sneaks into King's Landing and then makes her way to
the Great Sept where Allison is known to often be praying,
and she approaches Alison and basically says like, we should
make peace, and Alison's like it's impossible now, and you
know that that goes nowhere, and then Reniera eventually is like, okay,
(32:46):
so what happened Like in the last hours of Visa's life,
you talk about me, what did he say? Did he
say anything, and Allison mentions that Visas was talking about
egg on the Conqueror and the Song of Ice and
Fire prophecy as he was dying, and this shocks Raniera
and Alison to turn is shocked by Rania's reaction, realizing that, oh,
(33:10):
I've struck a chord here, this is something important, like
what is this? Alison turns down Rania's peace offering, but
let's Raniera go and does not alert anyone to her presence,
so there's a door left open. Yeah, but let me
just say this. And I know we've been for the
fans of Team Black, you know, maybe you feel I've
been too critical of Arnira. We've been too great.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
We've been a little bit. We've been a little bit
harsh on on Team Black in that plan.
Speaker 1 (33:35):
This is an incredible move, what an incredible secret mission
to try and find an off ramp to this thing.
And it was a tremendous risk, but I think it
was worth the risk, and I think what it's very
sad to me and frustrating that Raniera took this risk
(33:55):
and then threw it away by essentially saying to Alison, hey,
let's make peace. Here's my version of peace. You guys
quit eggon steps down and you give me the throne
and walk and you guys walk away in that side.
Speaker 2 (34:13):
I know, couldn't she couldn't she have just come up with,
like we can marry our kids together, like you tell me,
you know, like I I will be queen now because
you guys try to u s up me. But I'm
happy to marry our kids together so they can both
be the ads or something. I feel like like, why
would you take the life saving risk without going with
(34:34):
an actual olive.
Speaker 1 (34:35):
Frau fucking crazy and just it's really arrogant. And this
is where, like you know, I this is where you
start seeing. This is this is ego. You know what
I mean? This is true. I love Ren. She obviously
loves her kids. With the scene where her and Jason
embrace over the loss of Luke, it's so hard. She
(34:56):
loves your children. The way you know, we see the
way she says goodbye to the little ones is they're
sent off to the veil. It's so heartrending. At the
same time, she's willing to let all of them die
if she can get the throne. She's willing to pay
that price, and it's in this moment that you're really
(35:19):
confronted with it face to face and to your point,
like I'm a little shocked, Like why can't you say, Okay,
how about this? Whoever, let's say we take Jiharah, we
married Jaharah to Jeoffrey, my little Joffrey, and then their
kids will will sit on the irons throne? What about that?
Speaker 2 (35:38):
Like yeah, and also as well, like you can still
you can still basically be the dowager queen. It's not
gonna make any difference to you and Eggon and Helena,
or I'll give them lots of land, Like there's all
different ways. Because the truth is, I do feel like
with how out of control the young hot lords are
right now, I feel like two strong women and with
(36:01):
a thoughtful plan coming together could actually squash all of
this and they would just have to listen to their
moms because they are still that young. But Ranera goes
there and instead it's almost like she is back to
that teenager who feels like this is her entitlement and
she's angry that ever no one will respect the fact
her dad chose her as ah So she's like, hey,
(36:21):
U super, how about you you skip off that throat
it's gone too far now you need to offer something.
Speaker 1 (36:27):
It was really really frustrating to see that. And for
Allison's part, you know, Alison is in a bind because
she is on a team that has been organized under
the principle forget all the family stuff and the personal feelings.
But they're like organizing principle of Team Green is a
woman cannot rule. So yeah, Allison's influence is limited to
(36:53):
like soft influence, like backroom conversations. She can't come out
and be like, do this, and she need an ally
to help her convince people on her side to do
things that she thinks would help the team because she
can't do it overtly because Team Green, their whole thing
is like we don't need to listen to women, Like
that's their whole raised on death. So it's she's in
(37:15):
a very very tough spot. But like, gosh, I was
hoping that Raniero would come with more, But I think
you're You're really right, Rosie, in that the fact that
this isn't in the book suggests to us that this
remains secret. This remained top secret mm hmm all the
way through, all the way through to.
Speaker 2 (37:33):
That, and that means that that was this thing between
between the two of them that they never shed again,
kind of hinting at that closeness and that relation, the
importance of that relationship.
Speaker 1 (37:45):
Well, we can't wait to see what happens next. We
await episode four, which by all accounts is the big episode.
Speaker 2 (37:53):
That's what everyone's everyone's warning us that that's the that's
the oh shit episode, So we shall see. I mean,
think about it, We've already we've already been through so
much in this opening half of the season. I can't
really comprehend, Like, if you're the first episode of this season,
(38:13):
you know, ended with a baby being killed and like
two of the most famous characters from the books being adapted.
So what you have to do for episode four to
be that episode? I'm very excited to see.
Speaker 1 (38:27):
Up next to the Honorbus, Welcome to another edition of
the Omnibus, where law, analysis and understanding come together. Today
(38:48):
we're talking about croveball picks for Hand of the King
in honor of Christian Cole, Lord Commander of the King's Guard,
being named Hand of the King. Let's talk about out
some of those out of the box picks. Now, first
of all, we should say that Christian Cole's ascension to
handle the king from king's guard is precedented. This has
(39:10):
happened before. It happened during the reign of Jaharis the Conciliator,
when Ryan RedWine, who is a you know, one of
the most famed nights of his day, this, you know,
a real in terms of a warrior, like a uh,
you know, a damon targarian level type of fighter who
(39:34):
was named to hand of the king, taking over for
the long serving Sceptin Barth. Now, Ryan RedWine sucked at
his fucking job. He was bad at it.
Speaker 2 (39:47):
Oh Okay, I was gonna say, is this like another
I was gonna say. I was gonna make a joke
and be like, oh so, I'm guessing he didn't get
it by just sleeping with the queen. But he also
wasn't good at his job.
Speaker 1 (39:56):
Right, not a ton of He was just bad at it,
you know. Like I I think that the critique that
comes down through the histories and the various references in
the books is basically that, and it's the kind of
same thing that we expect from Kristen Cole is that,
you know, to a warrior, everything can be solved with
a sword, and that is not the role of hand
(40:18):
of the king, and so Ryan red Wine was he
lasted like less than a year, and that was moved
out for Bailon Tagery and the King's son, by the way,
the dad of Visis and Damon. Now Ryan took over
(40:38):
from I think an equally out of the box pick
which is sept and bar sept and barth came from
a very very you know, lowly social position. He was
the son of a blacksmith. Blacksmith apparently could not support
a family, so gave him to the Faith of the Seven,
(41:02):
where he apparently thrived. And he became a very learned
person with regards to letters in history and organizing of
records and archives.
Speaker 2 (41:16):
And so.
Speaker 1 (41:18):
He went to King's landing, as you know, basically to
like organize the Red Keeps library. He came to the
notice of King Jaharis, who raised him to hand, much
to everybody's surprise. This is after the previous hand had
resigned and Septain Barth lo and Behold held the office
(41:43):
for forty one years and by many accounts is the
greatest hand of the king that there ever was, like
you know, produced the crown's debts, helped with you know,
one of the things that among the many things that
Jaharis did was like evolve the Kingdom's laws, bring the
(42:04):
laws the kind of disparate local laws of the realm
in line with the Crown's laws. And Barth helped with
that administratively. It was super, super super important.
Speaker 2 (42:15):
Okay, Well, that was going to lead me to a question,
which was, like, what do you think makes a good hand, Like, historically,
what would you look for in a hand, because we
have seen a lot of hands who are just self serving. Otto.
You know, he wasn't necessarily a bad hand, but he
was a hand with a severe agenda. Yeah, that was
to serve himself and his plans. What do you think, like,
what are the top three things if you're going to
(42:36):
be coaching and you're picking a new hand, Like, what
are the top three things you look for?
Speaker 1 (42:41):
I think you look for wealth, you know, I think Otto.
I think when it's all said and done, that Otto's
track record is hand of the King will be pretty divisive.
That said, I think he had a lot of the
tools to be good at it. He came from a
very very wealthy and powerful family, I tell and that
(43:01):
gives a person connections and an understanding of how to
move money around. You know, like the economy of westruss
is pretty simple compared to like a monor economy. But
it's important to understand how to keep the crown in
the black, so to speak. You can't don't beggar the crown,
which is a thing that we've seen in Game of
Thrones and we've seen it other Euros during the history
(43:22):
of this realm. So do you understand money, do you
have do you understand people? Do you have connections to
a lot of other families? Do you understand politics? Now, Barth,
it would seem would not have these kind of things
just on first glance, but he was such a well
read individual that that carried him through. And then the
(43:45):
fact that he had I think this is like an
ancillary benefit, the fact that he had no family whose
agenda he was looking to advance. See, that's the problem
with High Tower or time Lanist or a lot of
these other hands of the king. A lot of the
problem with them is they're looking to advance the fortunes
(44:08):
of their own family, sometimes ahead of the realm's fortune.
That's like a very common problem with hands of the king.
And I think you have to be careful with that,
so you know, I would probably looking at like third
and fourth sons or maybe the not denoable members of
(44:28):
a certain family, you know, like weirdly, I think Laris
would be really good because, yeah, he doesn't seem to
be like team strong, looking to do anything. He doesn't
have any kids. Like not having kids I think is
a big one, like.
Speaker 2 (44:41):
Yeah, because you're not worried about your ass. Yeah. And
also with Laris, I think you make a good point
because he is more likely to be interested in the
wellness of the realm, because that would serve him away
from the wellness of his family because his family doesn't
like him, it doesn't treat him well. So he has
like an invested interest in the realm doing well if
(45:02):
he is part of the.
Speaker 1 (45:03):
Realm exactly right now. There was another member of the
King's Guard Lord Commander of the King's Guard who served
as hand of the King at the same time. This
is Marston Waters. In later years, we're not gonna speak
about him because it might be spoilery stuff even though
(45:23):
it oh okay decades, but just to be just to
let people know that this does happen again, and that
if you happen to be interested in, like, oh, a
hand of the King that is also King's Guard. If
you see the name Martian Waters, just don't click on it.
Don't click on it.
Speaker 2 (45:39):
Don't click on if you don't want to spoil law.
Speaker 1 (45:41):
Right, But all that is to say that Marston Waters
some of those weaknesses that we talked about, which is
an ambition, family ambitions, looking to advance the fortunes of
one's family, and you know over that of the realms.
This is something that that Marston kind of had a
(46:02):
lot of plotting going on with Hands of the King.
So that's it. So those are to this point in history,
those are really the out of the box picks for
hand in the King. You have sept In Barth, you
who came from almost nothing, from a very very lowly background,
to rise to become the greatest hand of the King
(46:22):
the realm had ever seen. You had a successor, Ryan RedWine,
who was Lord Commander of the King's Guard at that
time and sucked though to be fair to him, huge
shoes that he had to fill. And now you have, yeah,
I mean you have Lord Commander of the King's Guard
and hand of the King Kristen Cole the second person
in the history of the realm to ascend from Lord
(46:45):
Commander to hand and to do both of those things
at the same time. All right, Rosie, let's go to
our score card. Who is winning we right now? So
we had Team Green put a point on the board.
They're winning the scores currently two zero Team Green, Team Black,
with both of our votes going to Team Green. Last episode,
who gets a point? This episode? Who do you see
(47:06):
oh as winning?
Speaker 2 (47:08):
Okay, so, with the events of the episode, it does
feel like Team Black should get a point because of
Raniera's plan. But as we broke it down, do we
feel like she delivered the fact that she looked the
fact Raniera was able to craft this plan and never
(47:28):
get into the history books, and she extended this olive branch,
took that risk. This is that kind of direct action
we've been wanting from Raniera, but she didn't make the
most of it. And also, you know what we're seeing
in this episode, We are seeing Team Green is planning
for the future. Yeah, Team Green's thinking about what if
we get wiped out? Team Green is you know, there's
(47:52):
there's things that are happening here with I'm thinking also,
I'm thinking about release. Yeah, I'm thinking, Oh, I don't know, Jason,
who are you going for? Because I'm I'm just I'm
thinking that this is a hard one this episode because
there's no clear Raniera should be the clear winner, but
she kind of fumbled the ball at the last minute.
Speaker 1 (48:11):
So I'm still I think it might be a draw
for this reason. Of a Team Green, I think has
made some important moves. They're fielding an army. Now the
army is marching towards off towards the river lands. But
Bayla saw the army knows that they're moving, so now
the Blacks know that that's happening. We have Team Black
(48:34):
agitating for action with Raniera not being able to deliver that.
But Reniera did make some moves that I that I
think are really important, which is safeguard in the future.
We mean the cast of the veil. I think that
was important that needed to happen.
Speaker 2 (48:47):
Ending the dragons eggs. I think that was a smart
I think that.
Speaker 1 (48:50):
Was you know, that's the stuff that needs to happen.
But to your point, and the sept Summit was a
real missed opportunity if you cared about peace, and so
I'm gonna say that this is a draw. I think
it's a draw.
Speaker 2 (49:08):
I think, yeah, I don't think anybody picked to put
to put one over the other.
Speaker 1 (49:14):
And not to mention that, you know, when you look
at the battle that occurred at the Burning Mill between
the black Woods and the Brackens, the black Woods Team Black,
the Brackens Team Green, that in itself looked like just
like a mask, like a massive and very costly massacre
with no strategic you know, victory won by either side.
So I think it's a draw all around. I'm I'm
(49:37):
heartened by some of the moves that I see from
Team Black, but also like extremely frustrated by the missed
opportunity to accept meeting. And you know, this can all
go left in a big way for Team Green if
somebody doesn't keep an eye on egg On do like
this guy wants to get out the guy.
Speaker 2 (50:00):
He's drinking, He's gonna get on a dragon while he's drunk.
Like Also, I would say the reason that I agree
with your draw is because, in the same way, we
also have Damon on Team Black, who is kind of
that chaotic element, like it does seem like he's making
good plans taking Haron Hall. That seems like a win.
But can we trust him? This is the man heads
(50:22):
chopped off? Can we trust his decision making? Is this
gonna come back to bite RINERA and Team Black? So
I think you're right. I think it's I think it's
one to Green and one to Black. I think or
half a point each. Yeah, So it's Team Green three,
Team Black one. At this point on Thursday's episode of
X ray Vision, we're diving into episode six of The
