(01:27):
support as always. Should you or any member of your

self distruct in five seconds.

Okay, here we go the speed recaps. Now before we

Speaker 2 (02:11):
Okay, fifteen minutes on the clock. Okay, I am ready.
When you are, let me know when to start stop
the time. A Mission Impossible the first one, nineteen ninety six,
directed by Brian opalma Ethan Hunt an agent of the
elite imf Impostuble Mission Forces undercover at the US embassy
in Prague as Dixie Kratz, Senator John Waltzer and a
(02:33):
John Walter mask. The team's mission is to apprehend rogue
agent Alexander Golitzen when he steals the CIA's very secret
knock List, which is the list of all the identities
of their agents in Europe. The mission goes sideways in
Ethan's entire team is wiped out, including Ethan's mentor Jim
and Golitzen. Ethan calls the secret IMF hotline, sets up
(02:55):
a meeting with IMF Director Kittridge and Kirtchridger's like good news,
I'm in progue.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
What are you doing to progue? Same suspicion.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Turns out Kittridge is overseeing a mall hunt. It turns
out that Golitzen was an IMF agent part of a
separate team tasked with uncovering the betrayer inside the IMF,
who had made the deal to steal the knocklist in
order to sell it to a arms dealer named Max.
Kitchens is pretty sure they got their guy. Now the
(03:21):
loan survivor Ethan Hunt, but Ethan Hunt escapes. He blows
up some fish tanks with explosive chewing gum and at
the safehouse, he goes on the Internet and does some sleuthing.
This is nineteen ninety six, so he has to use
Netscape to serve the usenet. I don't have time, so
google what usenet was. He makes contact with Max through
usnet and then in the middle of this, guess who
(03:42):
wanders in IMF team member Claire, who has survived This
is Jim's wife and Ethan is probably or definitely been
fucking her. Correct How did she survive? She says that
Jim warned her that something was wrong and then allowed
her to escape before everyone was killed. Ethan meets with Max,
and one thing about Max is she immediately also wants
(04:02):
to fall in as well, truth like a lot, and
the other thing is she agrees to buy the knocklist
from Ethan for ten million dollars plus the identity of
the IMF turncoat. Ethan and Claire assemble a team which
includes crack hacker Luther and French pilot Kreeker. They sneak
into CIA headquarters, where they give a guy diarrhea and
(04:24):
managed to steal the knocklist and an iconic set piece
influenced by the heist films RAFIV and top Copy. They
steal the knocklist. Jim comes back from the dead. I
was thinking, he says, and also kittridges the mall. However, Ethan,
in a somewhat confusing montage, reveals that he already figured
out the gym is the mall even plays along, though
(04:46):
he invites Jim to the handoff with Max. Aboard a train,
Ethan gives Max a list and she tells him the
ten million is back in the baggage compartment. Ethan uses
a gym mask love that Mos to Outclaire as part
of Jim's plan, and then he uses his camera glasses
to out Jim as the mole to Kittridge. Jim tries
to flee in a helicopter piloted by Kreaker, but Ethan
(05:06):
blows it up with more chewing up.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
Mission Impossible Too, directed by John Woo. Twelve minutes left,
Let's Go.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
Evil Corporation Biosite has created a deadly biological weapon named Chimera,
which they plan to release in order so that they
can charge people for the cure, which they call bilaferon
which they also created Evil IMF agent Sean Ambrose steals
the cure and disappears. Ethan is mountain climbing when he
gets the call to find Ambrose and the message to
(05:36):
do this is stored on a pair of Oakeally sunglasses.
Even brings Luther back in for his hacking expertise, and
Ethan decides to use Naya Ambrose's ex to find Ambrose
and guess what, Ethan falls in love with her. Shocking,
he falls in love with every beautiful woman he comes
into contact with. Ambrose has the cure, but he needs
(05:56):
the virus for his biosite.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Pump and dump stocks.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
Ethan tries to steal the virus, but it goes wrong
and Naya ends up injecting herself with the sample of
the virus and walking around uh Ethan tracks Ambrose down
using a maskruise, tricking Ambrose.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
Into shooting one of his own guys.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
There's a motorcycle chase, after which Ethan kills Ambrose and
he has Luther, cured Naya and Save the World. Mission
I Possible three, two thousand and six, directed by jj Aberbs.
Ethan Hunt is retired and living with his girlfriend Julia Okay.
Julia thinks that Ethan is a traffic analyst for the
(06:33):
Department of Transportation. Ethan comes out of retirement to rescue
one of his old teammates who's been captured by the
evil arms dealer Owen Davian. Philip Moffman, that's right, Eda
gets her up, but Davian put an explosive in her
head and it goes off, and the extraction helicopter insane, insane,
and it's kind of suggested that Ethan was also in
(06:55):
love with her. Ethan and his team, including new tech
guy Benji, down Davian to the Vatican, where he plans
to buy something called the Rabbit's Foot. They managed to
capture Davian, drug him, and sneak him onto a plane
bound for the US, but when Ethan tries to interrogate Hi,
Davian's like, listen, I'm gonna kill everybody that you.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
Love back of the US.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Davian escapes when Commander count Bush the prison convoy, and
within like ten minutes, Davian figures out who Ethan's girlfriend
is and where she works and promptly kidnaps her. Davian
gives Ethan forty eight hours to bring him the Rabbit's
Foot or Julia, his girlfriend dies once again. The IMF
arrest Ethan, thinking.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
He's the mole.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
Oh my goodness, who.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
Helped Davian escape.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
IMF Director of Ops Musgrave, who is actually the mole,
tells Ethan that the rabbit's foots in Shanghai and helps
him escape. Ethan goes to Shanghai, gets the foot, delivers
it to Davian. Davian doesn't think it's real, though, and
he injects one of those little bombs into Ethan's head
and says, I'm gonna shoot Julia, and he shoots her,
(07:58):
but it turns out that that was just like a
Julia mask and not actually Julia. Musgrave comes in and
does a bad guy monologue in which he reveals, hey,
I'm la mal, and Ethan knocks him out and escapes.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
Ethan finds Davin and Julia.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
Davian tries to blow up the bomb in Ethan's head,
but Ethan kills him. He tells Julia then basically how
to use a gun and says, listen, I'm gonna walk
you through the process of frying the little bomb in
my head with a defibrillator. When he's knocked out from
the defibrillation, Julia shoots Musgrave. When Ethan comes to he
tells her listen, by the way, I'm a spy. Let's
(08:34):
get married. Mission impossible, goes protocol to That Love It,
directed by Bradford. Ethan is undercover in a Moscow prison.
Benji breaks him out because the IMF need him to
help recover some stolen Russian launch codes. Ethan and Benji
break into the Kremlin in order to find out the
identity of Cobalt, the person who's gonna buy the codes. Instead,
(08:55):
Cobalt blows up the Kremlin and pins the terrorist attack
on Ethan. He's arrested, but he escapes. He meets with
the Secretary and IMF analyst Brandt Jeremy Renner. Ethan draws
a picture of Cobalt on his hand in like five seconds,
no question, He's a cantones and Brandt is like, oh, totally,
(09:16):
I recognize that guy. That is Terror's genius Kurt Hendricks,
who wants to start World War three for weird philosophical reasons.
The Russians then attack the Secretary's convoy and the Secretary dies,
but Ethan a brand escape. They track Hendrick's right hand man, Wistrom,
to the burj Khalifa, tallest building in the world, where
he plans to buy the codes from aroaw the assassin
(09:36):
who originally stole them from Sawyer from lost It all
goes left Wistram, who is actually Hendricks in a bath
so many and we find out that Ethan's wife Julia
is dead, assassinated by his enemies, and Brandt was the
IMF agent who failed to stop the killing. Okay, The
(09:59):
team goes to Mumbai to access an Indian telecom satellite
that Hendricks plans to use to launch the nuclear weapons.
The IMF team stops to launch, and Hendrix mortally injures
himself by leaping off a very tall parking garage. The
Russians realize that IMF is innocent of the Kremlin attack.
Everyone's cleared, and later Ethan tells Brant, don't feel bad
(10:19):
because I actually faked Julia's death so that she could
go off and lead a normal life while I was
undercover in that Russian prison. Barry Twisty mission a possible
rogue nation twenty fifteen because of various fiascos, including the
recent destruction of the Kremlin, IMF is on thin ice
with various governments shocking Meanwhile, a new evil spy organization
called the Syndicate ambushes Ethan and takes him prisoner. They
(10:41):
sink a guy named the Bone Doctor on him to
torture him, but Lisa Fasten, undercover m I sixth operative,
helps him escape without blowing her cover. Hunt calls Brant
for help. Brent tells Ethan that Congress has shut down
the IMF and all of its missions and assets have
been handed over to the CIA. CI director Alan Humley
believes Ethan and the Syndicate all by himself. Ethan goes
(11:02):
on the run months past the CIA, always a step
behind Hunt five, which Brandt finds hilarious. Ethan sets a
secret meeting with Benji at the opera in Vienna and
asks him for help iding the guy who ambushed him.
At the opera, Ethan runs into Ilsea, Faust again and
the Syndicate again. The Syndicate manages to kill the Chancellor
of Austria, and Ilsa manages to keep her cover intact
(11:24):
once again, and Ethan is definitely falling in love with her.
Hunley believes that Ethan and Benji asassity the Chancellor. Ethan
and Benji ketchup to Faust She tells him that the
guy either is looking for is x MI six agent
con evil Solomon Lane. The three break into a vault
where Laane hid the syndicate version of the knocklist, but
even almost drowns and Elsa steals the Listen escapes car
(11:45):
chase motorcycle chase. She gives it to her boss, but
he deletes it and tells her to go back undercover
with the syndicate, but Benji copied the data. Good work, Benji,
well done. Luther figures out that the data package can
only be unlocked by the UK Prime Minister. Now Ethan
and the team have the only copy of the data.
Our hero goes to London, where Ils pitches Ethan on
(12:06):
running away together and being in love and leaving this
crazy spy world behind it. He almost does it, but
it's a trap. Syndicate take Benji hostage and forces Ethan
to unlock the datave minutes and delivered to them or else.
Now the team has to go kidnapp. The Prime Minister Brandt,
worried about the fallout, tells Hunley, who arrives in London
Oxide Atlee, the ilse's boss. They brief the Prime Minister
(12:28):
on hunt Ilse and the syndicate the syndicate, and you.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
Say that, Prime Minister says.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
The Prime Minister reveals that syndicate was the creation of
mi I six Chief attlee ILSA's boss. But Atlee is
hunting a mask. He sleep starts the Prime Minister and
sends his biometrics to Luther, who unlocks the data. They
then sleep Atlee, who immediately admits that he started the
syndicate and is trying to frame Ilsa for starting it. Ethan, Luther,
(12:53):
and Brandt discover the file is billions of pounds in
illicit moneys to run the syndicate because it's very expensive.
Ethan destroy the disc, but in like five seconds memorizes
all the account numbers. Now Ethan is the disc and
he goes to meet Lane. A chase ensuesan at the end,
Lane is tricked into jumping into a lacked glass box.
He's taken into custody. Congress undissolves the IF and puts
(13:15):
Honey in charge, and he's the new sectorary Mission.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
A possible fallout.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
Twenty eighteen minutes after their bad beat at the hands
of Ethan and friends, the syndicate rebrands is the Apostles,
someone named John Lark contracts them to steal three nuclear
bomb course. After failing to stop the Apostles from getting
the course, Ethan and a team using an elaborate mask,
crews involving Wolf Blitzer to chuck Nils dell Brook, an
Apostle nuclear physicist, into revealing Lark's bomb designs. The new
(13:40):
CIA director Sloan, forces Hunley and Ethan to take one
of our regents, Walker, on the mission to find the course.
They go to Paris, get their asses kicked by a
guy who they think is Lark, and then Ilseaphous comes
in and accidentally kills Lark.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
Ethan, now pretending to.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
Be Lark, does dude does the core deal with arms
dealer Alana Mitzopolis, who of course wants to fuck Ethan
and and maybe also wants to fuck her brother. She
gives him one core of three, but says for the
other two, you have to help us break Lane out
of prison, which Ethan does, but he does it in
a way that allows Lane to get captured and doesn't
kill any cops.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
Meanwhile, Walker is telling the CIA.
Speaker 2 (14:14):
The Hunter is actually a Rare Minutes and not pretending
to be Lark. In London using masks. The team plus
Hunley gets Walker to admit that he is Lark. There's
a gunfight, Hunley is killed, Walker.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
And Lane escape.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
Walker tells Ethan that he figured out that Ethan faked
the death of Julia, which was revealed in Gross Protocol,
and exchange for Lane killing Julia and getting his life
back his lick back on Ethan, Lane doesn't give Walker
the course. Julia is an Indian controlled cashmir working on
a small pox outbreak created by the Apostles. Lane's actual
plan is to use bombs to poison the water supply.
(14:48):
They're killing billions. Ethan and team go there. He reunites
with Julia, who is remarried. They disarm the bombs and
everything's fine. Mission Impossible Dead Record Part one Christopher Carry
and Ai Dave the Entity Creative Why the Russians become sentient.
World governments are freaked out, but they also want the entity.
The only way to control the churn off the entity
is the special key. Ethan hunt Now a training offer
(15:09):
is called back to active duty and we get some
crazy backster and Ethan where some woman that he.
Speaker 1 (15:13):
Loves was killed by this guy named Gabriel.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
He goes to Saudia room to get the key, which
is in the possession of Ilsa. She's hiding there because
the US put a bounty on her head. There's a gunfight,
Nielson dies in DC. Ethan mask sneaks into a CIA
briefing where he learns about the entity. Basically, it's really
powerful and it was created.
Speaker 1 (15:31):
By the US.
Speaker 2 (15:32):
We learned that Ethan has half of the key and
that he fake deals his death and he wants to
kill the AI. Ethan and the IMF team go to
Abu Dabi to get another piece of the key. He
encounters a super pickpocket named Grace, who steals the piece
of the key from Ethan and also his heart.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
HEIMF team chase.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
Grace around Europe for a while, and Ethan discovers that Gabriel,
his apparent arch enemy, is tied to the is now
working for the entity and is somehow involved in Ethan's past.
In Venice, our old Palmet'sopolis reveals that she has the
other piece of the key. She hired Grace to steal
it from ethan arch enemy. Gabriel pops up and says,
I love torturing you, Ethan. I love talking shit about you.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
Grace.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
By the way, this guy is an international fuck boy.
He doesn't actually care about you. And now Ethan, you
have to choose either I kill Grace or I kill
wall Know.
Speaker 1 (16:17):
Who are you gonna save?
Speaker 2 (16:19):
Well, there's a big fight during which Ethan is tricked
by the entity and Gabriel actually does kill Ilsa, and
Ethan is very sad. Ethan in the team pitched Grace
on joining them and becoming a ghost. She's on the fence.
Luther makes Ethan promise not to kill Gabe because that's
exactly what the entity wants, but eventually Ethan manages to
(16:41):
get the key and save Grace and escape a falling
train and move on to Mission Impossible, the final Reckoning Ken,
Ethan and his team destroy the entity and kill Gabriel.
Speaker 3 (16:55):
Wow, with twenty one seconds to spare, absolutely incredible ball.
Jason Concepciot, WHOA, you did it? What was your favorite
movie to rewatch as you were recapping news?
Speaker 2 (17:09):
I think that, uh, Rogue Nation or Fallout? I mean,
I think I think the best one is still the
first one, and I love them, I agree, But in
terms of what the series has become for me, it's Fallout.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
And Rogue Nation. Those two are my favorites. What are
your two favorites.
Speaker 3 (17:26):
Rogue Nation is definitely up there. For me. It really
made me reconsider the way the franchise kind of works.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
But you know what, I'll go out there.
Speaker 3 (17:34):
I'll keep my I'll keep my hilarious trend going. I
also really enjoy Mission Impossible too. It's not a great movie,
but it's like a really outrageous example of what a
John movie is if you give him like an unlimited budget.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
But yes, I mean yes, in terms of plot, this
is a series with just plot like movements that are
absolutely bananas.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
But that one is the crazy.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
Yeah, I think I rewatch in it, a condensed rewatch
like this. My absolute favorite piece is that every beautiful
woman falls in love with Ethan, and Ethan falls in
love with them. I didn't mention that in Dead Reckoning
the SCENTI the entities like hired assassin Paris played by
Palmif from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.
Speaker 3 (18:20):
Oh yes, amazing, glad she's back.
Speaker 2 (18:22):
At one point during the chase, when Edan is trying
to save Ilsa or Grace, he fights Paris and she's
like choking him. With her thigh meat like an alley
and in that moment they kind of fall for each other.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
Yea, and he can't help it. He loved the woman.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
Who's trying to kill him. That's just dream.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
And then later on the Orient Express when Gabriel is like, listen, Paris,
your job is to like go and trick Ethan and
kill him and like get the get the key and stuff,
She's like, she hesitates because she has feelings for him
now and Gabriel has to stabbered it down.
Speaker 3 (18:59):
Yeah, and the best but the best thing is at
the end they were like they were like, guess what
can you hear her heartbeat?
Speaker 1 (19:06):
She's still alive? And they were like alive because he
needs interests.
Speaker 3 (19:13):
What could be more appealing to him than a woman
who died in his arms but comes back to life.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
That's like a dream situation.
Speaker 3 (19:21):
Okay, So who is your favorite teammate for Ethan? Who
do you think that's the best chemistry? Who do you
think is kind of your your stand up?
Speaker 1 (19:30):
You know what? I think it's I think it's Benji.
Speaker 2 (19:33):
At this point, Benji is a core guy and they
have such a great working relationship where.
Speaker 3 (19:38):
They have great chemistry him and Simon Peck.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
They've got into this thing in these last I would
say two movies where Benji will propose some crazy stunt
and you know, I think they've managed, like Tom Cruise
is aging pretty well. So now Tom so now Ethan
hunts like how many you know? Like when he gets
to the Oriente Express and he has to leap a
(20:00):
motorcycle onto the train to get onto it.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
He's like, wait, what do you want me to do?
And Benji's like, well, you're eat some hunk, like you
could do this like this and he's like I'm like
sixty yeah. So I love that they've added that to it.
Were now Benji is the guy who's like, yeah, you
can do it, like we've seen you do it, okay.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
I I do love I love being Raims as Lutha.
I think that the Hacker is a classic stand out
character and I love that. But I will say I
am generally a fan of like all the women, like
you did a great job kind of summing up how
many crazy incredible women ill sufaust, you know, my wan.
I do think that Grace is is great love, his
(20:44):
great love or all of them are great loves.
Speaker 1 (20:47):
I think Grace is really good.
Speaker 3 (20:50):
I think Grace is a lot of fun with the
kind of pickpocketing and the more kind of like on
a grind hustle. I think one of the best things
is like how everyone is moral complicated because there was spies,
so you there's kind of never any judgment, like somebody
could commit a mass matter and you're just like, okay,
but now they're helping Ethan. Then the IMF do what
nobody knows why that aims I don't understand.
Speaker 2 (21:12):
The thing I love about the Grace relationship is it
is a callback to Mission Impossible one. When uh they
steal the Knocklist, it's on like a CD ruck, yeah,
and Kreeger thinks that he's got control of the CD round.
He's like, I've got the disc and now you're gonna
listen to me. You're gonna pay me a bunch of money.
They're in the safehouse and Ethan is like, oh, you
(21:33):
mean this, and he like holds up another CD run
that he like does some sleight of hand with hed
So he loves a sleight of hand person, a pickpocket
like Grace, and I love that that is kind of
the thing that he is drawn to.
Speaker 1 (21:50):
Whe her. He's like, oh, that's a good pickpocketing move.
Speaker 3 (21:54):
Okay, is that with you know, final like the new
one is called the Final Reckoning? We haven't seen it yet. Uh,
would you want to continue with like a new IMF
team post this? Would you would you want to continue
with characters we've seen or would you want a full
new reboot because this is a franchise now we're talking about, like,
(22:16):
you know, thirty years of this franchise, so like you
want something new or do you want to keep it going?
Like how do you reimagine Mission impossible?
Speaker 1 (22:25):
Often, well, they clearly tried with Renner.
Speaker 2 (22:28):
Coming in uh huh, it seemed like to take the
reins and then he just kind of graduated into one
of the you know, team regular cast brand.
Speaker 1 (22:40):
I would prefer.
Speaker 2 (22:43):
A soft reboot where you relaunch with you do like
the thing that they tried to do with Renner, where
you bring in whoever the hot news.
Speaker 1 (22:52):
Oh, Glen Powell, that's a good cool Aaron.
Speaker 2 (22:54):
Glen Powell is great and you kind of and they're
doing it already right with with Ethan not wanting to
do like certain like certain crazy stunts and stuff, and
in the fight with the guy they think is John
Lark kind of getting his ass kick. Yeah, so I
think that they're I think that they can kind of
graduate Ethan to more of a director role.
Speaker 3 (23:17):
Yes, because he's because the statesman.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
Yeah, because they've established that he has like these crazy
intellectual superpowers, like he can draw a guy.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
He's that like some kind of identic like I want
to fix up on like memory like thing, which I.
Speaker 1 (23:33):
Like, I'm like, came back going.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
He memorizes like five hundred bank account dubbers and know
them justively five seconds before drilling the disk.
Speaker 1 (23:47):
Like he's got these abilities.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
And I think you bring you bring in Glenn Powell
or whoever is the hot hot shot, right, Yeah, and
you put Ethan in more of a mental role, And
I think that's how Yeah.
Speaker 3 (23:59):
And we've seen that those two can work great together
with Maverick, which you know was such a big hit. Yeah.
I also think that what they've done really well is
they have built out a cast that's big enough and
young enough, with people like Palm to basically make it
feel like there is a continuity without having to do
like a full requall. You don't have to wait five years,
like you can really continue this franchise. Now the question
(24:21):
is will it make money, because it seems crazy, because
I thought The Dead Reckoning Pop One was like a
really brilliant blockbuster movie and I had a great experience
watching it in the middle of the day with definitely
a bunch of like early bird oaps and they were
like going crazy, like they couldn't believe the things they
were seeing on the screen. But it didn't make a
lot of money, or it didn't make as more money
(24:42):
as they were hoping, right in the grand scheme of things.
So I'm very interested to see where this leaves us,
where this leaves Ethan Hunt, where this leaves the IMF,
especially because of that hilarious billboard that everyone's been showcasing,
which is like the Tom Cruise, you know, Rustball woman
billboard where he's kind looking now over us. So yeah,
I'm very excited to see this movie. And I just
(25:04):
cannot tell you how fun that recap was, Jason. That
was so fucking thank you.
Speaker 1 (25:08):
