Speaker 2 (00:31):
Today News news. In today's previously on, we are catching
up on the biggest nerd news of the week, including sorry, guys,
you're gonna have to wait a little bit longer to
see Robert Downey Jr. As Doctor Doom. And also you
know me, I love a dinosaur and we're gonna be
talking about that Jurassic World wee birth trailer, as well
(00:53):
as a few other interesting stories. So stay tuned and
let's talk about the news.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
First, we thought this might happen.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
It seemed likely.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
Avengers Doomsday and Avengers Secret Wars release dates have been
pushed back from May twenty twenty six to your Holidays
season twenty twenty six and twenty twenty seven, So Doomsday
goes from May first, twenty twenty six to December eighteenth,
twenty twenty six. Secret Wars goes from May seventh, twenty
(01:23):
twenty seven to December seventeenth, twenty twenty seven, Doomsday and
Dune Messiah the same day, a Dunesday's Day.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
I have to say, I think this thought this would happen.
We thought this would happen. I think the Doneesday feels
like the first contender to the Bobenheimer crown. That might
rarely make it one very clever Dune's Day, very very
clever stuff. And also just an interesting conflation because obviously
(01:54):
Bobenheimer and I mean Bobinheimer was two very different movies
with Bobby and Oppenheima. These are definitely the same audience,
so I'm interested to see if that will split it
or if people will want to double up. Also, gonna
be great to see the big Christmas blockbuster back. I
feel like for a few years we had that with
Star Wars Lucky stop it the cat and the dog
(02:17):
are fighting underneath my feet. But yeah, I think that,
you know, Star Wars, we had for a few years
with the latest trilogy, some really great Christmas releases. It's
gonna be interesting to see this. This could be a
billion dollar Christmas. Also, Florence Pugh is gonna be busy.
That's gonna be a crazy press tour for her being
in both of those movies. So yes, interesting stuff and
(02:38):
obviously I just am happy that the people working on
the CG are going to have more time because that's
clearly what this is about. And also there's like a
million stars, so definitely some scheduling too for sure.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
Up next, Jurassic World Rebirth official trailer at number two
has dropped. Looks great and big looks great. All it
makes me think is one, I love dinosaurs. Yeah, when
will these learn?
Speaker 2 (03:02):
And two will they learn?
Speaker 1 (03:04):
Why is this family paddling around okay, dinosaur Canyon?
Speaker 2 (03:08):
This is okay? So I do think this is one
of the most interesting things. The explanation of why the
family are going to be there, I think is really intriguing.
In case you have not watched the trailer and you
want to go and blind, don't listen to the next part.
But basically, the plot of this movie is that a
team of mercenaries and a sexy scientist played by Jonathan
Bailey in some Tiny Glasses, uh, go to an island
(03:32):
that was the experimental island where dinosaurs were made for
Jurassic Park and Jurassic world, but were too dangerous and
when they went horribly wrong, then they were just left
on the island. So there's lots of new dinosaurs here.
There's a rank or style dinosaur inspired directly by Star Wars.
There is also some you know, a big t rex
(03:57):
as a Mostosaurus that we see that's very different. Here
we are finally getting the book accurate t rex scene
where the t rex swims in the water behind you,
and that's where the family comes in with the dinghy.
So why are the family there? I'm interested to see,
But I love to see that t rex scene because
I used to read that over and over again as
a kid. I thought it was so scary.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
It also reminds me of It's like a there's like
a viral moment from the video a stream of the
video game the open world crafting survival game Arc Survival
is sounded in which these two guys are like running away.
They're like on this little rock in the middle of
this bay, and this like t rex and chasing them
(04:40):
and like and then it they dive into the water,
but then the t Rex is still like swimming after
them and they're screaming. It reminds me a lot Yeah,
it's very I'm excited.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
It's gonna be great. Uh mush laie, where have you been?
We've missed you. He's back. He's a cool And then
we have Scarlet Hanson and yes, it's gonna be very
interesting to see how this comes out. The day after
my birthday on July second, I will be there. And remember,
you may have forgotten this because obviously the Jurassic World franchise,
you know, it went to very wild places, definitely did
(05:11):
not necessarily continue the success of some of the other
movies financially. But the first Jurassic World movie legit became
like the most successful opening and movie in a long
long time. I believe there was the at really fun
kind of advertising campaign where it was like Avengers and
Jurassic World and they were kind of handing off the baton.
(05:33):
So this could be a bit a billion dollar movie.
And I just want to see these weird, scary dinosaurs.
I love them. Also, if you have not watched it,
this definitely seems like it's in the vein of the
very good Netflix show made by DreamWorks Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous,
which then goes on to become Jurassic World chaos theory,
(05:53):
both of which are incredibly great shows. Watch them now.
Give the animation a chance. It's very Rebels esque. The
storytelling is worth it, the expansion of the law is
worth it. And the notion of genetically modified dinosaurs is
obviously at the heart of Jurassic Park, but seems to
be leaning into something with this movie.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
One more quick thing. Jurassic World Dominion, you know, made
some fifty something million dollars in China a week. That's
not going to be a thing now. China, in response
to this tariff situation, said a few months ago that
they're going to be severely restricting imports of US movies.
(06:33):
So I think we're going to see that begin to
bite like.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
A t rex. Yes, I think that's a great point,
because that's a huge market for these movies, and.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
This was a big This is a big franchise in China.
So sorry to those dinosaurs. Let's take a quick break
and we'll go back. Yeah, and we're back. George R.
(07:10):
Martin In not writing this, Mamill do.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
Right the winds Winter and I respect him for at
this point, honestly, guy, his writer's block and and I
get it. We've all been there.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Yeah, I get we've all been there.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
We've all had that one deadline where like you just
can't no matter what happens, you just can't finish it. Yeah,
been there, done.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
That, you can't do it. George R. Martrest and Lion
forged to produce an animated feature quote a dozen tough jobs.
And this is a reimagining of the classic uh uh
Greek myth about the twelve labors of Hercules, with him
cleaning the stables and him doing all these other things.
(07:51):
It's we will see what his level of actual involvement is.
But yes, so this is new that is sure to
frustrate those who are still operating under the illusion that
we're going to.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
Get these Yes, that book's gonna come out. And also,
I will say this is going to be a controversial
one too, because if you're in comics, Lion Forge and
Only Press and the way all of that went down
was not necessarily great. But there has been this promise
of Lion Forge essentially aiming to make animation, and this
is going to be very interesting to see if it happens. Also,
(08:29):
if you loved Blue Eyed Samurai, this is going to
be animated by Blue Spirit, So it seems like a
big team, a good team, a powerful team. Let's see
if it actually happens, though, it's going to be interesting
to see.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
Finally, sag Aftra, the Actors' Union, has filed unfair labor
practices against the Fortnite video game the Massive Huge Video
Game property over the use of of the implementation of
(09:02):
a voice for Dark the game, alongside a lot of
other Star Wars properties and other IP intellectual properties, including
lots of Avengers and stuff like that, about the implementation
of AI.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
Power specifically where the issue really comes from generative AI.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
So so in the game, Darth Vader is able to
respond to what players are putting into the game, things
that they say, things that they type into.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
Chat and blood Swell broken.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
The have broken the AI and allowed it to say
all kinds of things that it should not be saying.
In a blog post, Epic Game said that they worked
with James Earl Jones's the late actor James Earl Jones,
who voiced Darth Vader, with his estate and a few
years before he died, the actor did agree to let
AI be trained on archival records of his voice.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
Very interesting because that's not usually the case. With these
kind of case, with these kind of things. But I think, uh,
the sag Aftra and I'm sure Disney at this point
probably not loving the way the generative AI is being used,
though anyone who kind of has any minimal kind of
modicum of foresight definitely could have seen this coming in
(10:21):
my opinion.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
So all right, So the sag Aftress position is that hey,
this is hm hmm, this is a job that an
actor should have filled, and now this is a job
that AI is filling. Uh, this is only going to
be the first of many such cases.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
Well, that's very real. I mean, think about someone like
Sam Whittwer, who has an incredibly talented voice actor who's
played many different characters and star wars who were continued
on from in the animation and in the games where
the original actors didn't want to come back. And I
think that he in particular has had such an incredible
varied career because of that and the idea that generative
(10:59):
AI will place that is not good for anyone. And yet,
like you said, Jason, this is a this is just
the tip of a very tall and deep icebug that
we are going to keep hearing.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
I don't think people are fully prepared not for this
kind of thing in general, but they're not prepared for
the baby AI slop that is going to flood socials
in the Internet in months and years to come. There's
gonna be so much low, like, low sweat, low effort
(11:35):
AI content that is going to be out there that
is just going to inundate the space starting now.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
Really, if you are somebody like us who loves AWE
and is a creative and bright and makes AWT and
is involved in comics and movies and all that stuff,
we have been very reticent to embrace general to BAI
in the same way as say a normal person who
used it to try the emails has. And it is
since speaking to more people like that that I have
become to realize that many, many, many, many many people
(12:06):
are using it every single day in their life in
a ways I couldn't even comprehend. So I think you're right.
This is the next couple of years, We're going to
see so much generative AI content, specifically using the word
content kind of mind out and put online and used
for stuff like this, And it's going to be a
very interesting road to walk.
Speaker 1 (12:27):
