Speaker 1 (00:05):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
On today's episode, we're talking about news It's news, have
some crazy Marvel comics news.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Hello.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
My name is Jason Caccepcio and I'm Rosy Night and
welcome back to x Ravision, the podcast where we have
deep It's your favorite shows, movies and pop culture. Where
we're coming you from my Heart podcast, bringing you three
episodes a week plus News It's news.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
News it is news today, which means it Previously on episode,
we are catching you off on the biggest news of
the week, including oh you guys are excited about this
one in the Discord, Star Wars star fighter Matt smithlands
villain role in new lucasfilm pick opposite Ryan Gosling, who
(01:06):
I guess will be our hero. And also we're gonna
be talking about two new movies that are going to
be battling it out for first place over Fantastic Four
this weekend.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
First up news, Mark Ruffalo in talks to join Spider
Man Brand New Day, says Deadline. This is very interesting
because Spider Man Brand New Day is currently in filming
in Glasgow. The internet is a wash in set photographs
and various photographs of Tom Holland and the suit and
Zan Daya on set walking around, so seems like a
(01:40):
late edition.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
But okay, I think also maybe the situation here is
they say he's in talks because they know he's about
to be on set and they can't keep it quiet
because those set visits images have just been everywhere, especially
because we've seen the really really cool stuff like you know,
Spider Man practical swinging, which has never really properly been
(02:01):
done before. So Daniel Deston creator is really kind of
showing off with that one. Spider Man in Hulk makes
a lot of sense. They've been together, you know, they've
been friends, they've been antagonists. I think they're probably trying
to do something a little bit different than you know,
the Doctor Strange as the mentor, which we were getting
for a long time in Phase five. There is you know,
(02:26):
some some Punisher Hulk Spidy stories that they could lean into,
but it unlikely is going to be you know, the
garth Ennis kind of like Confederacy of Dunces like I
would love to see, you know, the Hulk and Spidy
Fantastic four kind of story. Obviously not going to be that,
but it's interesting that this is an addition. I love
(02:49):
Mark ruffaloes Hulk. I think he's a great, you know
person in the MCU, great character, always fun. It'll be
interesting to see what version they do here. You know,
we've been seeing Professor Hulk a lot. Maybe we'll see
something a little bit different here, a great Hulk or
or a kind of like a Hulk that maybe Peter
has to stop. Though. I feel like ultimately this will
(03:10):
end up in a situation where somehow Punisher and Hulk
end up being the ones who know who Peter Parker
is or who supports Spider Man. Who knows. But they're
filming it right now, so we're gonna find more and
more as this goes on up.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Next, Star Wars Starfighter has its stars. Matt Smith is
joining the production in a villainous role.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
He's so good as a villain.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
He's so good as a villain. The film also stars
Ryan Gosling and Mia Goth directed by Sean Levy and
I love Star Wars Starfighter the game. I am excited
for a new Star Wars movie. Yeah, Sean Levy is
an interesting choice and let's see it me too.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
I think it leans into a little bit more of
the comedic than we're expressing but I'd love to see
Sean kind of come out and make a big action
play here as well, maybe a bit a bit more serious,
a little bit less quippy. I am also interested to see, like,
does this inherently mean Matt Smith is gonna be Matt
Smith or is it like he's or is it gonna
(04:15):
be more of your kind of top gun esque like
Starfighters in the Academy and one is the antagonist. I'm
interested to see. It's been so long since we have
had a live action Star Wars movie, just like a
crazy amount of time after the kind of role that
we were on. So I'm excited for this. I love
Star Wars. I want to see what's going on, and
(04:36):
I hope it's something different than what we've seen before.
Maybe on the outer Rim, maybe somewhere where we don't
often go. Obviously, probably not connected to the TV universe
that we've got coming from Dave Filoni. That's gonna kind
of tie up in a movie. So yeah, I'm interested.
You know, let's hope it gets made, because we've had
a lot of Star Wars movies that have not got
(04:58):
made in the last few years.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Let's go to a quick break.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
More of your rep back.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
And we're back box office news. Freakier Friday and Weapons
will be battling it out for first place this weekend. Meanwhile,
Fantastic for is, you know, racking up some cash, continues
to it did okay, the precipitous drop into week two
is kind of stabilized into a more normal tailing off.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
But it is kind crazy that three weeks in it's
gonna get overtaken by one of these other movies. It
certainly there used to be a time when a Marvel
movie would be number one for longer than you know,
two weeks. It does look like at least it's made
three hundred and seventy million dollars world wide. It does
look like it's gonna make more than Thunderbolts, which is
(06:00):
the three eighty two, maybe more than Captain America Brave
New World. But I also I'm like, I don't know, Yeah,
I mean it is, it would make sense, but we'll see.
If it makes more than four hundred and fifteen million dollars,
then it will be the biggest release of the year
for Marvel of the three movies, and I think that
would be fair. But yeah, this is very interesting because
(06:20):
Freakya Friday obviously the remake the sequel to the remake
of Freaky Friday with Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis.
It's a huge nostalgia project. And then we have Weapons,
which is, you know, a massive horror release from Zach Kreger,
very good viral marketing. Both of these are expected to
(06:41):
over index in like the millennial female segment, so that's
why they think that this could be a bigger weekend
with either of them basically beating Fantastic four with around
thirty million or more. Now, I will say I think
Weapons is good enough and word of mouth enough that
it could be in a situation where we could over
(07:02):
index because like so it's currently Freaky Friday twenty seven
million to thirty million, Weapons twenty five to thirty eight.
But last night on preview night, Weapons did five million
and Freaky Friday did three and a half. So it's
going to be interesting to see. But basically we'll see
by the end of the weekend. Is it going to
(07:22):
be a whim for Disney because they'll win if Freaky
Friday wins, Or is it going to be a win
for Warner Brothers, who really committed to Weapons I have
a take.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
I think that I think for Your Friday, despite its
softer start midweek, I think once the kids are you
are available so much cent I think it's gonna pick up,
and I think it's going to overshoot its coverage. I'll
I don't know, thirty two or something like that, and
then I think million and I think Weapons will slightly
(07:51):
under slightly.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
Is going to be under the okay, I'll be in
drink good.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
I think like like twenty any to twenty three. Okay,
I think slightly under, but word of mouth will build.
That's my call.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
I think Weapons has legs. I'm gonna say, I think
Foraky Friday is gonna make it to thirty thirty two,
but I think Weapons could go as big as forty.
I do think it's got an unexpected prestige feel to
when you watch the movie, even though it is still
very much in that horror range. It has had a
crazy solid Artis score. But it will be interesting to
(08:28):
see what it's like when the when it widens up,
because not a lot of people have seen it yet.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
So yeah, so my theory is softer opening, but when
people say, oh, you got to see it, then.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
They'll go see it. I think that's a great call.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
And then up next Crazy. Okay, So Marvel announced a
new comic con that they've got a new limited series
coming out, and the details have just emerged. It is
called seventeen seventy six. It is created by It has
the really good creative team j Michael Strazinski and Ron
(09:03):
Limb also Sean Damien Hill involved on the art. And
I gotta tell you, folks, this is this title is crazy.
It is a five issue limited series in which Marvel
superheroes go back in time to help the Founding Fathers
win the Revolutionary War Crazy. Here are the cast. I
know immediately that everybody right now who's listening to the
(09:26):
sound of our voices is like, huh, A lot of
issues there, right? Yes, I think there are a lot
of issues inherent in this setup.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
Here is the cast of here that is coming back.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
Tony Stark, Scott Summers, Captain America, Steve Rodgers, They're.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
Not America, a black Captain America about.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
There, Sue Storm, Doctor Stephen Strange, Spider Man, the the
Incredible Hal and so yes, they are sending an all
white cast of Marvel heroes to help the Founding Fathers
win the Revolutionary War. And on the cover, the official cover,
(10:14):
not the variant cover of the first issue is you
know your Avengers jumping into action with George Washington. That's
got to be Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin. I think
two out of three being slave owners.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
I am saying. I am saying, like, guys, could you
go back and help the slaves, maybe the people who
enslaved maybe help with that, and pre.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
Is what's going to happen. You'll get like a panel
or a segment of page per issue that deals with
the plight of enslaved people in the Revolutionary War period.
And then as they an issue, you five, as our hearers,
(11:01):
are going back to their timeline, like somebody, probably Steve
Rogers is gonna be like, hey, you should really free
the slaves.
Speaker 1 (11:09):
Yeah yeah it also guys, can I just say that
one of the variant covers for this is legit. They
replaced the Obama cover that they did when Obama got
elected with Spider Man, and they replaced it with George Washington. Guys,
I mean, I just feel like this was not well
thought through. The tagline is Revolutionary Warriors Assembled. But you
know what, Throughout history, there have been many strange attempts
(11:34):
to kind of bring real world politics into comics, and
sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. But this is
gonna be hilarious to follow, that is for sure.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
I mean, Tony is gonna be like, what do you
guys have guns that shoot every two minutes?
Speaker 1 (11:49):
Let me let me like, I feel like this is
gonna do immense damage guys. Also, I just feel like
I do feel like when you say that the series
is to celebrate the two hundred and fiftieth anniversary of
the American Revolution, it just tells you a lot about
where we are right now and the conversations that are
(12:12):
being had. I am intrigued. Let's say that. Let's put that,
to say the least. Also, J Michael Straczynski one of
the guys behind some stories that may be coming up
relevantly in Spider Man, so I wouldn't be surprised if
they're getting him back in from his successful TV career
for that. Finally, the most somehow, the last headline was
(12:32):
not the most insane headline. That's why we're covering.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Resident Evil's hinch. This is all words, This is a
real lot of the stories, these are real words that
go together.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
We did not put them together.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
Resident Evil's hinch Dual Lingo Owl is the weirdest gaming
crossover yet, reports Yahoo.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
That's right.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
Following Resident Evil's lead, Dual Lingo followed up with an
edited image of its own. You know, iconic duo Owl
in a Fedora, replacing mister X from Reason and Evil too,
quote Leon, you haven't done today's lesson right.
Speaker 1 (13:13):
The caption reads wow.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
It means unclear as of the time of this recording
whether this is an actual creative collab or just some
weird marketing thing that nobody actually understands yet and.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
Like some social banta maybe, But honestly, I do think
I appreciate that Duo Lingo understands how aggressive their reminders are,
and I think they have done a very funny kind
of corporate branding of like, yes we are due Lingo
Owl will kill you if you do not do your
Spanish lessons. So uh, weird time we're living in, but
(13:50):
that exists. So if you want to see sexy Duo
in a Fedora replacing mister X and Resident Evil to
your wishes have come true.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
Also, if you're trying to learn a language, due lingo
is not the way, you know, Jason, give us your.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
Tips because you've been you've been expanding your live It's.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
Very easy to do now with the various sites you
can you'll be supporting a real person who lives in
a real country that in a real like area where
that language that you were studying is spoken. So you'd
be supporting an actual person. And uh, and it's a
great way to do it with the resources available to now,
(14:26):
whether it's YouTube or again, any of the various ways
that you can connect with an actual language teacher.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
It's easier than ever.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
Dual lingo will do nothing except kind of build your vocabulary,
but you won't be able to have a conversation.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
Yeah, do you need to know how to say the
cat has escaped the bar? Then you may be that's
gonna be good for you.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
