Speaker 1 (00:00):
On today's episode, we are talking about Avengers updates, lots
of Glenn Close, big year for her, and eg gear more. Hello.
(00:24):
I am Rosie Knight and I am joined by.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
I'm Carvil Lauran.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Hello that is and welcome back to x Ravision, the
podcast where we dive deep into your shows, movies, pop
culture and comics that you love. And we are here
at iHeart Podcasts where we'll be bringing you three episodes
a week, plus news on Saturday's And guess what, guys,
It's Saturday, so that means it is news. So in
our previously on episode, we are catching up on the
biggest geek news of the week, including rumors of Sadie Sinc.
(00:54):
Joining Secret Wars, question Mark, question Mark, exclamation Point, and
some new trailers for some very highly anticipated movies. So
let's start there. Common, Hunger Games, Sunrise on the Reaping
trailer is out. I can't believe it because I feel
like I just read this book like a year ago,
but I guess that is how these movies are being made. Now,
(01:17):
what do you think about this trailer? Common? This movie
takes the story of Hamich, who you may remember being
played by Woody Harrelson. In the original movies. Here he
is young and it is about him being reaped for
a I believe a quarter quell, like a kind of
ceremonial Hunger Games, and it is. I was actually blown
away by how good the book was because it's very depressing.
(01:40):
It's the best of the Hunger Games. It's very autumnal,
it's very depressing. It's very much about the horrors of
war and propaganda. But I know there's a reason you're
excited for this movie, and that's the reason I have
you on today. You are my especially in the wake
of All's Fair. You are my Glen Close expert. So
talk to me about seeing Glen Close in this role,
because she is looking crazy. She's going for a whole
(02:01):
different look.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
Yeah, I'm glad that you're I'm glad you're a Hunger
Games curly. I am. I am not a huge Hunger
Games gurly, but I am a Glenn Close gurly. And
if Glenn Close is gonna be in something, I am
going to support her. And in this she looks wacky
and fun. She's wearing her like almost like latex yellow
trench coat with her like skin pulled back. She looks
(02:23):
a little bit unrecognizable.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Yeah, I would say definitely very Brazil. Yes, well, Backskin, it's.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
Yes very Katia. Yes, there it reminds me of Katia
Come to Brazil, her music video for Come to Brazil.
But that could have been on the vision board.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
Honestly, I would believe it because also, this is early Capital,
so we're getting to see the really fucked up, scary
kind of way that the Capital is starting to differentiate
itself from the rest of the population here. So yeah,
I'm excited to see this. I think the cast looks fun.
The book again, Guy's surprisingly good. I thought it was
(03:04):
a massive, massive step up in quality from the Ballad
of Songbirds and Snakes, and I actually wrote an article
about it a Den of Geeks. I just thought it
was really brave to do such a depressing, transgressive story
right now, and I'm excited to see them bring that
to screen. Okay, Carmen our second Glenn Close trailer, if
you can believe it is, she's back again in Wake
(03:27):
Up dead Man. The trailer for Ryan Johnson's Knew Who
Done It? From the Benoir Blanc series, which we'll be
releasing on Netflix but also in theaters for a limited time.
It's a trapped room mystery about a priest or a
vicar who gets killed in a locked room and then
Benois Blanc has to team up with a ragtag group
(03:47):
of people to work out who is the killer, who
is not? Looks great Glenn Close is in it. I'm
very interested.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
She looks great in it. And yes, I love I
love Daniel Craig's role as beIN P two after Gay Icon, yes,
and after you know, Double seven. He really needed an
awesome rule like this, and so.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Yeah, something fun and different.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Yes, And I enjoy these movies. And I love the accent, so.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
Yes, I will have the accent dire also as well.
Just generally looks fun. Taking it to that more classic, cozy,
traditional murder mystery setting which I'm interested to see. And
once again just absolutely incredible and crazy cast.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
Yes, more news.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
And this is a big, big moment for you Stranger
Thongs fans out there have heard there are many of you.
It's very popular TV show. We have been talking for
a long time in the Discord guys. Sadie sinc. She
is going to apparently appear in Secret Wars as well
as her brand new Day role. She's got to be
(04:52):
a star baby, and honestly, I think she is a star.
We talked about this on our Stranger Things episode. She
is the one who came out with that big oscar buzz.
I love that she's getting her money. I love that
she's doing something like this. Is she gonna be in Doomsday?
It seems unclear, but makes sense because realistically Secret Wars
is going to be the big build up. And I
(05:14):
will sell you something, guys. Lots of theories here. Obviously,
Jean Gray was a big theory. Yes, that was the
big one I am. I would be disappointed if they
tried to do Mary Jane from another dimension. We already
have Zendaya, who is a world class pop star, model actress,
just like Mary Jane is a beautiful, world famous model
(05:37):
and actress in the comics. Let mj be sexy. She
is an adult now she's in college. Give her that haircut,
give us some banging clothes. We know Zendeya can serve.
Let her serve. Ian brought up my favorite current theory
about this casting.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
Wich Ian tends to be right on the theories.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
I would says he's really added a fan fantastic win
rate to the We were right Buzzer here and he
has seen a theory that I love, which is that
she will be playing may Day Parker, who is actually
the child of Peter Parker and Mary Jane, and I
would assume from a different universe, and that that might be.
(06:19):
In the first in Brand New Day, we just see
her trying to talk to Peter and he's kind of confused.
Maybe she's one of his students, and then we will
learn in Secret Wars that she is actually his daughter.
I think that's a really cool idea. I don't think
Marvel's gonna introduce any X men in the Spider Man verse.
The Spider Man stuff does really well for them. They
don't need to connect it.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
I subscribe to the Ian theory.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
I love that theory. I think it's really fun. People
know may Day now because they've met baby may Day
in Spider Verse, so I feel like people are more
akin to her and kind of seeing what she could be.
The comics are popular. I would love to see it.
Sadie Sinker is great. Okay, next up, Now this is
another we were right. It's looking like potentially for me
(07:02):
because when unlimited my ability to guess the book's office,
The Wicked is unlimited. No. Look, I knew Wicked for
Good was gonna make a lot of money. Is it
as good as the first one? No, we've already had
that discussion. You can actually listen to our discussion on
XRGC with my incredible friend and editor Amelia Emberwing talking
(07:23):
about the differences between the books and the movies and.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
The musical and conversation.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
Yeah, she's so great and she brought a lot of
insight from the book side. I still loved it. I
had a lot of fun. I think people care about
these characters, they care about the chemistry, and that is
why the opening for Wicked. The previews are the highest
of any movie this year. Now, I will say Universal
had higher previews than usual, and they had earlier previews.
(07:50):
So there was a Monday fan screening six point one million,
a Wednesday screening that brought in six point five million,
and then the Thursday previews made eighteen million, which also
included double bills of Wicked and Wicked for Good, which
I do say I think is probably the best.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
I have to say to watch it, just from my
own anecdotal evidence. Living next to a theater, walking the
dogs last night, the Girls and the gays are out
in their green and they're pink for the for the.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
This is what I'm saying. I went to see it.
I was lucky enough to go see it with a
couple of my good friends to review it for the podcast,
and obviously went there on one of the nights. It
was also a fan screening. The girls were out, the
gays were out, the days were out. Everyone was wearing
pink and green. I was wearing pink and green. And
the truth is that also, guys, it is unusual to
(08:40):
have early screenings like that on a non holiday weekend movie.
But we have had holiday weekends movies have opened on
them this year and they have not made it as
much as.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
A we kid no normal movie.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
This is no normal movie, guys. This is the cultural
zeitgeist of Wicked. So it's gonna be interesting to see
what the legs are like. They are estimating that this
means that it will probably have one hundred and fifty
million plus opening. I guess in one hundred and twenty
to two hundred million range because there was such wide variation,
but I settled around one hundred and fifty to one
hundred and eighty. I think we could see that. I
(09:12):
also think this could maybe be our big billion dollar
live action movie because if it has legs, if people
just want to go and see them sing for good,
which honestly I couldn't blame you because they are absolutely unbelievable,
if they just want to go and see the big
epic fight scenes, if they want to see that happy ending,
if they want to see the tragedy, whatever version of
it there is. I feel like, even though the critical
(09:34):
response has not been as fantastic, they're still going to
be fans who want to go out and watch this
again and again. And that's gonna give it long legs.
And I don't think it has any competition. Oh long legs.
It doesn't have any competition till, like, you know, next week.
So let's see how much it can get in before then.
And let's toss to an ad before we talk about
(09:56):
a new online video store and the crazy Timmy Shamali's
new movie. Guys, I just need to say, first of all,
I do know his name is timoth Ay Chalomy, but
(10:18):
sometimes it's call them Timmy Shams, Timmy Shams, you know. Anyway,
we're not talking about Timmy Shams.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
Yeah, Timmy Sam.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
We love Timmy Shams, but we are talking about somewhere
where people will probably be watching Timmy Shams movies, which
is the Letterbox Video store. And this is crazy. I
love this because they are they are saying, this is
a film rental platform that will be available inside its
app coming in early December. It is not a subscription
(10:45):
service like Criterion or Movie or Netflix or anything like that.
It's curated shelves. But this is what's most interesting, built
from what our members are actually hunting down. We will
program these shelves using millions of watch lists, reviews, and
others secret source signals. So this is incredible because on
Letterbox there are a lot of movies that are not
(11:08):
listed or are incredibly hard to watch. There are many
movies that people will put on their watch list, put
on their defined lists, stuff like that. This is incredible
because there are also many movies that are out of license,
out of print, and impossible to find.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
It's gonna be huge Letterbox if.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
They can do this, and they can make it a
space where those movies are easily available, they could be
coming up with like a Trubie level success story here.
And I'm very excited. And apparently it will launch on
web iOS, Android, Apple TV, Android TV, Chrome Cast and Airplay.
No Roku. Why do they make it so hard, guys?
(11:45):
I would just give me a break.
Speaker 2 (11:46):
Whose city we need? Letterbox and Roku city?
Speaker 1 (11:50):
Oh? I would love letterbox Roku CI.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
Let me ask you a question. What is your most
grailed watch that you have still not see in the
theater or see at all?
Speaker 1 (12:00):
Oh my gosh, colmen, what a fantastic question. I mean,
I definitely have a lot. There is currently my Letterbox
watch list. I understand why they're doing this because they
have a great service already where if you put something
on your watch list, they will tell you when it
becomes available. So there's one movie specifically that I've been
(12:20):
waiting for them to tell me is coming available. I
believe they may have just sent me a notification. And
it is a made for TV women in prison movie
that I randomly watched one time about a girl who
goes on a road trip with her cousin and ends
up taking the car breaks down. They take a ride
with these random guys and they end up getting put
in juvie And it's this kind of like what's it
(12:41):
like to be in Juvie? And it's such a cool,
incredible movie. I randomly stumbled across it on the TV
one time, and uh, I think it's just called like
locked Up or something. But then I was able to
put it on letterbox on the watch list and they
found it. So I'm really hoping it will open that
space of those great exploitation movies and stuff like that. Common,
is there a movie you have never seen that you're
(13:03):
most excited to watch?
Speaker 2 (13:05):
H One that I've been thinking about recently is just
a John Waters short film which is apparently extremely hard
to watch. It's called Eat Your Makeup, and it's it's
like from his early days of filmmaking, and you can
see it, I think in the maybe I think it's
the Academy Museum in Allen.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
I was gonna say maybe the Academy Archives have it
because they did the John Waters exhibition. Well in that case,
John send Common the Vimeo link, Babe, I feel like
you two would get along, please. And speaking of incredible
characters like John Water, John Waters are king, I would
say another incredible Hollywood character that we've been blessed with
in the last few years is none other than Timothy Shamlay.
(13:44):
Timothy shall a May, Timothy Shallow May, Timothy Shallow May,
Timothay Shallow.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
May, Timothay Shallow May.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
He is launching his new movie with Josh Safti, Marty Supreme,
that looks like a kind of uncut Gems but for
the Ping Pong tournament world. And there was a fantastic
fake marketing zoom call stunt where Timmy came up with
all these crazy ideas and then now we're actually seeing
wasn't just a silly stunt. We are also now seeing
(14:13):
that those things are coming to life. There is the
Marty Supreme blimp, which I saw in real life in
La And on that day, were you really in La
if you didn't see the pink Marty Super prem blimp.
The reviews from this movie are coming out glowing. It
seems like out of Benny and Josh, Josh is really
the one with that safty, stylistic taste that people are
(14:35):
expecting that intense stress. We got Benny's Smashing Machine at
a twenty four much more serious, somber kind of classical
sports movie, and now Josh is coming out with this.
Looks like it's going to be a big hit for Timmy.
I think this could be a surprising breakout hit for
A twenty four again like it. Uncle James was so yes,
(14:55):
very excited for this can't wait, and I love. I
think Timmy is a fun Hollywood star doing the right
things with his prestige and platform.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
He really is, and he's really become like our Christmas
Day blockbuster hero.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
You know that's the boy. He's bringing him in and in.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
This history, I wish I had seen the Bob Dylan
movie instead of.
Speaker 1 (15:23):
You know what, I just think he picks really interesting roles.
I love if you guys haven't seen it. My favorite
Luca movie is Bones and all. I know that's controversial.
He's so popular, he's got obviously his beloved movies. But
I love that Cannibal Ya story. Timmy's amazing in it,
Taylor is amazing in it. Big fan. And yes, guys,
(15:43):
before we leave, we're gonna hit you with a few
final headlines. Boom boom bing bang bosh And here it
is the blimp. Look I'm gonna say something, okay, aboo.
I saw the blimp in my own eyes and it
looks pink. But you know what, boo, if it's orange,
then that may be. And you know what, guys, I'll
post a picture of it on my social media so
(16:04):
you can see by pinkish q. No, I would say,
maybe it's choral.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
Maybe it's chorale, coral, choral dollars orange.
Speaker 1 (16:14):
But I did see it, guys, I did see yeah,
or babes coral babes. It's just coral. But yes. So
here are some more important things that you need to know.
Superman number one sells for record breaking nine point twelve million.
Not Action comics twenty seven, guys, not the first appearance
of Superman, but a first printing of the first ever
(16:34):
issue of the Superman solo title. It had been No, unbelievably,
he is out of that market right now. He loves
to buy a comic. No, this was, as it is
always said in a found in a somebody's attic, the
dream way to find a nine million dollar comic. Stargate
big nerd passion for many of us, the famous movie
(16:56):
with the incredibly beautiful yeah and gorgeous James, Oh my god,
my number one love of my life, James Spader, so beautiful.
In that movie, they definitely base the main character from
the Disney movie Atlantis on him. Milo Stargate New series, guys,
(17:18):
it's out. It's gonna be out soon. The Stargate is reopening.
I personally believe that the Stargate movie is better than
the series, but I would love to be proven wrong.
I've watched a lot of SG one in my time,
so that's exciting. And finally, in probably the biggest news
for our headlines if you're a comic book movie lover,
Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daily, who you may know
(17:41):
most recently from Dungeons and Dragons Honor among Thieves and
also who wrote the screenplay the very good screenplay for
Spider Man Homecoming, have been hired to write, produce, and
direct a new Star Trek film that my understanding is
will be within a new canical cininical space Star Trek. Yes,
I'm very excited for that. I think those guys are
two of the funniest, most charming writers that we have
(18:03):
going Honor among Thieves such an underrated movie Spider Man Homecoming,
a perfectly rated movie that launched Spider Man into the MCU,
and a breaking headline just as we are about to
finish recording, the new DC Vertigo line has been announced
for twenty twenty six. It will return in February with
four bold new releases, one new drop every week featuring
(18:24):
award wind creators and rising stars, and we cannot wait
for this. It will include Nice House by the Sea.
You can listen to our great interview with James Tynan
about that one, Bleeding Hearts by Denise Camp who most
recently was on Martian Manhunter, Absolute Martian Manhunter, Massive Smash Hit,
and it's gonna have Stipan Morian on art. We also
have End of My Life by Kyle Starks and Steve
(18:47):
Pew and Brutal Dark and Ezra Kaine Mystery by Chris
Condon and Jacob Phillips. So this is going to be
your new home for creator Own comics guys. So yes,
lots of good fun news comment. Thank you so much
for joining me.
Speaker 2 (19:00):
Thanks for calling me.
Speaker 1 (19:02):
It was a joy. Well I'll make sure you're always
here when we talk about Glenn Close. On next week's
episodes of xtro Vision, we're diving into pluribus It Welcome
to Dry the Witcher and more. Thanks so much for listening.
