Speaker 1 (00:00):
Previously on your morning show with Michael Del Choano.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
You know every Easter I sit here. You know what's
magical about radio is how close we are, how intimately
closer are I'll give you an example. I just got
an email from Roger, just a very personal You would think, oh,
this is a quick note from a lifelong friend wishing

(00:29):
me a happy Easter, and then my response him. That's
the magic of radio. That's why I always tell people,
if you ever see me in public, come up, because
in this invisible intimacy magic of radio, you know everything
about me, and I feel like I know you. But
boy do I cherish the chance to meet. And so

(00:51):
when I sit here on a good Friday, all I
can think about, and obviously would be overwhelming if every
one of you who are listening right now now called me.
There's one of me and there's thousands of you. But
I sure wonder is Easter something that happened a long
long time ago in a land far far away. Is

(01:13):
it a then thing or is it a now thing?
And I sure hope it's a now thing. It's just
one of many questions I have every good Friday. First,
I wonder if we overlook the starring role God the
Father plays in the Easter story. After all, it was
the Father who so loved us that he's sent his

(01:34):
only begotten son. It's God the Father who ignited the
resurrection after the sacrifice. He did the sending, he did
the raising, he did all the heavy lifting, so to speak.
And while this is Good Friday and Jesus is rightfully
the focus, make no mistake about it, God the Father
is a star on Christmas and Eastern Morning. And speaking

(01:59):
of Good Friday, it leads to our second question, which
is why do we call the day Christ died on
the cross suffered so greatly Good Friday? I mean, you
think we could find a more somber, reverent holy name
to mark such a date. Imagine if we celebrated the
death of our loved ones this way. Hey mom, it's
good Dad died Day. I mean, let's face it, our

(02:22):
mothers would slap as silly. After all, there's no good
in death in and of itself, or is there. I'll
get back to that later. Back to the first question,
do we forget God the Father's hand in the Eastern
miracle and by doing so miss the real meaning, God
the Father's perfect love for us, Jesus's perfect love and

(02:44):
obedience for his father, not to mention the glorious message
of hope for us all today, you know, to make
Easter a now thing, not a then thing. And maybe
it's because we didn't have the greatest earthly father, or
maybe we're blinded because we only see Jesus as God.
I mean, he was nothing like us. Death was not
a threat to him. He certainly had no fears or

(03:06):
reluctance or real choice in the matter, or did he that.
Don't get me wrong, I believe in the Trinity. There
are no doubts in my mind that Christ was God.
But while on earth, he was a lot more like
you and me than we give him credit for. He
had a mother Mary, a father Joseph. He had friends,
he had a job, he was a carpenter before he
went into the full time ministry, so to speak. And

(03:29):
I'm sure he had plenty of instinctive hopes and dreams,
certainly opinions, feelings, and most importantly, like us, free will,
meaning Jesus could have stopped short and saved himself at
any time. Even asked once in prayer, if there's any
other way, But there wasn't and he didn't. And I

(03:49):
assure you he was physically very much like you and
I when he was in the form of man as prophesied,
which is to say, he had no magical shelter from pain.
I believe he felt this of every whip, He felt
the prick from every thorn in those crowns. And yes,
he felt the slow drain of exhaustion and suffocation as

(04:12):
the final demands of crucifixion overcame his early body. But
even in suffering, even in the necessary abandonment by his father,
who could not remain in the presence of his son
once sin was upon him, even in death, he was obedient.

(04:34):
Should we assume simply for you and I, Well, here's
a message for good Friday. I believe Christ died for
God because of his perfect love for his father. Disobedience
was never an option, which begs a couple of more questions.
Who is this father that he would ask this of

(04:54):
his son? Or moreover, who is he that his son
would obey to such a depth and such a death. Oh,
we all know what the scripture says. He's the Alpha,
the omega, the beginning and the end, the all knowing,
all loving, all merciful. But I believe this request came specifically,

(05:15):
not from power, but from need. Need. What does an
almighty God, an all knowing God surrounded by worshiping angels, need.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
You and me?

Speaker 2 (05:30):
And perhaps it's our lack of understanding how much our
heavenly Father knows each of us, he still loves each
of us that blinds our understanding. But understanding or not,
it's truth. Christ went to the cross, an innocent, perfect,
obedient lamb. But make no mistake about it. On Sunday

(05:54):
he leaves that tomb a king, and not just any king,
king of kings and Lord of lords, and send it
to the right hand of his father, where he sits
on a throne today. And in his hands he holds
the keys to helen death for all who accept him.
That's the gospel. Now, you may say another typical Easter message,

(06:16):
and I've heard it before, But Easter's going to come
and go again this year, and I'll still have no job,
no money, a marriage that's failing, children that are rebelling,
friends and family members who are sick and dying, and
I have a soul still searching and a heart's still empty. Well,
that's why I wanted to share this unique view of

(06:37):
Christ dying for God, because, as the scripture teaches, like Christ,
weak or strong, afraid or not, want to or not,
if we are willing Romans twelve to one, if we
are obedient, we can present ourselves to our Father just
as we are a lamb, and he promises to make
us a king in Christ. See, once you're in Christ,

(07:00):
your soul will stop searching, your heart starts filling jobs, relationships.
This job i'm talking to you in was in Christ.
I made a mess of my life. These are not happenstances.

(07:24):
This is what happens when our free will submits to
His will. And that's what makes makes easterr relevant all
year long. Let alone a now thing versus a e
then thing. If you do the obeying, He's still in
the business of doing the resurrecting. Here's how I used

(07:44):
to tell the Easter story to my kids, kind of
the del Giorno amplified translation of the most quoted scripture
in the entire Bible. And I think it summarizes our
Good Friday message. For God so loved and needed you
and me, He said, his only son, who so loved
his father, that through perfect obedience, died a lamb in

(08:05):
rosa king, that we might all be a complete family again,
beyond any form of adoption, and live happily, eternally ever after.
And as for that good Friday question, why good Friday?
Because today we celebrate the goodness in the obedience of
one which preceded the triumph and victory that will come Sunday.

(08:31):
And it's not a Sunday a long long time ago
in a land far far away, but a once and
for all and forever for those who enter by faith
as close as your heart away. And so because of
these truths I can confidently say to you today today

(08:51):
is a very good Friday, a very good Friday, indeed.
And if you share that hope and truth and belief,
Sunday can't help but be a happy Easter.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
Miss a little, miss a lot, miss a lot, and
we'll miss you. It's your Morning Show with Michael del Churno.
