WLAC in Nashville, Tupelos News and Talk one oh one
point one and ten sixty WKMQ, and how about Talk
six fifty KSTE and Sacramento, California. Love to have you
(00:21):
listen live, but are grateful you're here now for the
podcast Enjoy two.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Three, starting your morning off right, A new way of talking,
a new way of understanding, because we're in this toget.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
This is your morning show with Michael Bill jem.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
Yes, this is the show the birds say is for
the people. But today the squirrels are weighing in. They
think we're nuts. Apparently, Jeffrey, we haven't an in studio guest.
A squirrel has arrived. He thinks we're nuts. Six minutes
after the hour, Welcome to Monday, July eighth Year of
our Lord, twenty twenty four. As we all had a
(01:02):
nice four day celebration of our nation's birth, we're right
back to our nation's dysfunction. An all out push by
the media, led by George Stepanopholis and many other Democrats
including donors, to push Joe Biden out of the way.
The question is will Joe go and is he being
defiant or is he in denial? Joining us now? Is
White House correspondent John Decker Well the president while everybody's
(01:26):
trying to force him out, he got an Air Force
one and went to Pennsylvania. Is it defiance, is it
denial or is it both? Well?
Speaker 4 (01:34):
He feels he's won the White House. It's up to
him and him alone to decide whether or not to
essentially leave the stage. And he believes it's not time
for him to leave the stage. He indicated in the
interview that you referenced with George Stefanopolis. He believes he
is the best person, the most well qualified to take
(01:55):
on Donald Trump in November. So unless Joe Biden pulls
himself out of this race, it's not going to happen.
The rules are such that it's up to Joe Biden
and Joe Biden alone. He is the presumptive Democratic nominee.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
Right, and so the scramble is on to who can
convince him. There was and I studied that interview and
listened to it many times for many reasons, but at
once there was two critical points of the interview. Stepan
office wasn't taking any excuses European travel, world travel. You
had eleven days to rest cold. It was just a cold.
He had six days to prepare. You had plenty of time.
(02:32):
So he just kept coming back to will you will you?
Will you take a neurological exam and a cognitive test.
And in the end, when push King to shove, the
President said, no, you're right to point out the other thing.
He threw a bunch of names at him, from Chuck
Schumer to Nancy Pelosi to Cliburn to others. If these
people came to you and said step aside, would you?
(02:55):
And the bottom line was the President said, only the Lord,
if the Lord tells him, is the only one that
he'll listen to. So I guess the answer is whether
it's denial or defiance. He ain't going anywhere yet, He's
not going anywhere.
Speaker 4 (03:08):
I think the other person, he didn't reference her in
that interview, but I think it's Jill Biden. If Jill
Biden says to her husband, you know, I don't think
you're up to this. You know, I know you. I
know you better than anybody. And if Jill Biden said
that to her husband, I think that he would rethink
these things. But you know, she's barely mentioned in this
(03:29):
and it's often said that, you know, he doesn't want
to give up being the president. Well, I don't think
Jill Biden wants to give up giving the being the
first lady. I think, you know, it's a great position
for her to have, and I can understand her reluctance.
She's much younger. If you look at her campaign schedule
today and this week, you will see, Michael that she
is campaigning a lot more than her husband is. And
(03:53):
that's also been the case over the last several weeks
as well.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
Isn't it funny we all everybody always looked at well,
they looked at Nancy Reagan too, but Nancy Reagan more
for you know, being into horoscopes and weird stuff. But
all the speculation about Michelle Obama, Michelle Obama, Jill flies
right under the radar. And I don't think there has
ever been since Hillary Clinton a first lady so into
(04:18):
this job, both jobs. Actually, it's true. I think you're
one of the few people that ever stated, Joe Biden
has always wanted to be president, and he got it,
and he's not going to want to let it go.
He may not have the cognitive ability at this time
to hang on to it, but he's going to try to.
And but you're right to point out I think Jill
(04:39):
wants it and wants to hang on to it just
as bad.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
Yeah, and also joining in these conversations over the course
of the past ten days has been Hunter Biden. Yes,
Hunter Biden. He's been involved in senior staff conversations. I
don't think he wants to see his father leave the stage.
As you point out, you know, he's run for president
quite a few times. Finally the stars aligned for him
(05:03):
in twenty twenty, and you know, it's it might be that,
you know, electricity, you know, lightning can only strike once,
not twice for Joe Biden in terms of winning the
White House. You know, for him, he believes that he
can put together that same coalition that won him the
White House in twenty twenty once again in twenty twenty four.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
Well, it begs the question, can this party unite between
now and the convention and certainly by the end of
the convention in Chicago when they're this divided over their candidate.
That's number one. Number two, can you lose the White
House without losing the Senate and an even greater portion
in the House. And I think that's what's got everybody panicked.
(05:44):
How influential will be the members of Congress returning?
Speaker 4 (05:48):
Well, that's right. You point out one very important element
that will happen this week, Michael. That is Congress back
from their July fourth recess. Now Congress members cannot avoid
that question, do you support Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee.
The other thing that will happen this week is the
NATO summit. Now you may think, what does that have
(06:09):
to do with anything. Well, as part of the NATO Summit,
President Biden will have a formal solo press conference that
will take place on Thursday. I will be there. It
will happen Thursday afternoon, five thirty pm. So just like
there was so much attention on Joe Biden for the debate,
for the George Stephanopolis interview, there will be attention on
(06:29):
him once again for this consequential solo press conference, which
does not happen that often.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
Don't forget the Washington Post Axios. All the leaks were
this guy's cognitively out of it. If there's any time
that he's kind of aware, it's from ten to four pm.
Other than that, this guy's completely out of it. You
just mentioned a five thirty news conference that would be
out of that ten to four windows. So it should
be a challenge for the president to have a high
(06:57):
energy level. How much time do we have or do
you need to go?
Speaker 4 (07:00):
Oh, I need to go really quickly?
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Are you you going out finished? I'm gonna just I'm
just gonna show them why everyone is so panicked. I'm
going to go over some key numbers on the scoreboard.
John Decker, So I didn't know the out time.
Speaker 4 (07:12):
Tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
We'll talk tomorrow. It's great to have you back, all right.
So here's why they're so panicked. First of all, the
election will not be held today, but if it were,
Donald Trump would have at least three hundred and twelve
electoral College votes. That's the same margin in which and
that's a complete reversal. So that improves upon the twenty
(07:33):
sixteen map versus the twenty twenty map, and it could
be a lot worse than that. When we look at
the swing states. This is just the presidency. Arizona Trump
is up by five point four. Nevada Trump is up
by four point six, Wisconsin Trump is up by one
point five. Michigan Trump is up by point six. That's
(07:56):
clearly the twenty sixteen map. Pennsylvania he's up by four
point five. If you take New Hampshire, Minnesota, and Virginia,
and some Virginia polls have Trump leading, but by and
large those three states that were solid Biden are now
Biden by less than three percent. That's not good. Trump
(08:16):
also is up in Georgia three point seven percent twenty
sixteen map, and then some with some other players that
were so solid blue you never even discussed that might
be in play. That's your main's that's New York, New Jersey.
So the electoral college map, as far as can Joe
Biden win, looks really bad today. That's got people panicked.
(08:40):
His approval rating is thirty eight point six percent. Talking
about that George Stepanopholis interview. At one point, Stephanoflis is
just exasperated with all of the non answers, and he
finally just blurts out to the President, nobody's ever won
with the thirty eight percent approval rating. That's huge, and
it's true. How about the right direction wrong direction? Only
(09:04):
twenty three percent of America thinks we're heading in the
right direction. Sixty six point nine percent think we're heading
in the wrong direction. So there is a thorough convincing
that has taken place, not just by Democrats in the
party and running for office, but the media. You can't win.
But that's not the essence of their panic. The essence
(09:27):
of their panic is how do you lose a presidency's
so big without losing the Senate along with it and
increasing your losses in the House. That's what has them
ultimately panicked. That's why John Decker is saying the most
significant thing is all the members of Congress are coming back.
Remember in that Stepanophilis interviews talk about denial, President says
he hasn't you know, basically, stepin Offlicis is saying, if
(09:50):
Chuck Schumer comes to you, if Nancy Pelosi comes to you,
if Clyburn comes to you, then will you step down?
And he was defiant in saying they won't. They won't,
they won't, But our suspicion is they're about to. They're
about to and today now. Ultimately, when pushed by Stephan Offils,
(10:11):
he said, if only if the Lord comes to me,
will I step aside and expected that. I don't know.
Maybe the Lord himself is so exasperated with job he
stands at the door and knocks. Will you leave? The
media completely against the president. Now, nobody's going to carry
the water, nobody's going to keep the cover up going.
(10:33):
Nobody is going to narrativisee this. They got it out
for him. How does he stay in place? And if
he does, what kind of convention is ahead in Chicago?
Him me right among themselves. It is absolute political panic
(10:53):
with the media. And by the way, I expose the
media for covering this up. They've known all along. They
knew he was cognit be impaired when he ran four
years ago, and they've known throughout this presidency. George Stepanophlis,
a Clinton operative, did a hit job on the President
who was trying to do a make good for the debate.
(11:16):
Don't miss the hit job. But that's the media sending
a clear message. We're no longer in the cover up
business now, we're in the exposure business. But that interview
is what the media should be doing every day, no
matter what party is in rule, holding elected officials accountable
on behalf of the people to ensure they're getting what
(11:36):
they voted for. So the question of the day is
will Joe go? He's refusing? Is that denial or is
that defiance? And how do you lose the presidency without
losing the Senate along with it? Pure political panic is
what you're waking up to this morning. All right, your
(11:58):
top five stories of the day. Several Democrats have told
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries the President needs to get
out of this race. Mark Mayfield has more.
Speaker 5 (12:09):
During a Sunday call, at least four senior House Democrats
said privately Biden should drop out, joining another five House members.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
Who have call on Biden to withdraw.
Speaker 5 (12:18):
A source familiar with the Democratic senator Mark Warner said
that the similar private meeting that he was trying to
organize for Monday with other senators is no longer taking place,
and now Mark Mayfield.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
Now members of the House and Senate have returned to Washington,
that pressure may become even more real. Vice President Kamala
Harris's office as the second Gentleman, Doug M Hoff has
tested positive for COVID nineteen. No need to panic, he's
non symptomatic and he's fully vaccinated. Oh and Kamala Harris
also tested and her test came back negative, just like
(12:52):
her approval rating. Heavy rains and wins have reached the
coast of Texas. Hurricane Barrel has made land fall. Houston
Mayor On Wittmeyer had a strong message to everyone in
southeast Texas.
Speaker 6 (13:03):
We have to take Burrow very very serious. Our worst
enemy is our complacency. We can't allow us to allow
this storm to slip up. Bonus, we've had notice in it.
It's still very unpredictable.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
Well, the big holiday winner at the box office was
Despicable Me four one hundred and twenty two point six
million dollars to top the holiday weekend. Hotly anticipated Pixar
sequel Inside Out two continued strong with another thirty million
dollars and a quiet place. Day One placed quietly in third.
The US Postal Service is raising prices on Forever stamps.
(13:38):
I know you probably think stamps are like forty five
cents each, right, wrong and going higher.
Speaker 5 (13:46):
Here's Mark Mayfield stamps will sell for seventy three cents
beginning on July the fourteenth. That's up a nickel from
the current price. Other postage costs are going up to,
including postcard and metered letter rates. The increases are part
of a decade long financial outline that USPS is calling
the Delivering for America Plan.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
A Mark Mayfield, Justin Timberlake's mugshot from his recent dwy
which is no celebrity or funny matter, has become work
of art in the Hamptons. Rob Martier has the details.
Speaker 7 (14:21):
A drawing of the singer's photo is on display at
the Romany Cramores Gallery in New York. The limited edition piece,
titled Tuesday Night Out featuring Justin Timberlake, was made by
artist Godfrey Lohman. To versions of the painting have already
been sold at five hundred and twenty dollars each. I'm
Rob Martyre. There's a sign of the times.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
John Sen is retiring from wrestling. Davis Thompson earned his
first career tour victory, winning the twenty twenty four John
Dear Classic at the TPC. Deer Run and Major League
Baseball scores of Your Morning Show Interest Guardians, Cardinals, Rangers,
d Backs, All One, NAT's Raisin Mariners, lost.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
This is you Your Morning show with Michael Deltrono.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
In the movie Valkyrie, when their overthrow of Hitler failed
and they knew they all faced execution, one of the
generals asked for a revolver. He chose to do it himself,
and he just simply said, I'm thinking of happier times,
and then he took his life. That's kind of how
I feel like America was. We were all celebrating happier times,
(15:24):
our birth, this great experiment, liberty, freedom, and while that
was going on, we were ignoring, well, our dysfunctional reality.
So we have some one on one alone time coming
up here in about five minutes. Let's get you up
to speed on what you've missed. President had a really
bad debate performance, or a very revealing debate performance of
(15:45):
what everyone's been covering up, his cognitive impairment. I don't
buy that. If that was your first glimpse that the
President of the United States is dealing with dementia or Alzheimer's,
you haven't been very honest with yourself, and it's the
media's first glimpse of it. They haven't been very honest
with you. So the president thought he could make up
(16:09):
for the bad debate performance with a sit down with
George Stepanophlis. Somebody should have briefed him. Stepanophlis is a
Clinton operative. They don't like Biden Obama, in fact, they
want Kamala and he did nothing but hold the president
accountable for thirty minutes painfully. I'll play some clips in
(16:29):
a minute. But if in fact they should force Joe
Biden out, and it doesn't seem anybody can, whether that's
denial or defiance, what does that leave them? Well, Kamala Harris, Yeah,
but what does that leave them? Kamala Harris right now
is sitting with a forty one percent favorability rating, twenty
(16:50):
one percent very favorable, fifty six percent unfavorable, and twice
the very favorable forty three percent very unfavorable. Bottom line is,
remember how we always talking about they have an E
problem the economy inflation. They have an I problem Israel,
they have a B problem border. Well that a kna J,
(17:12):
Kamala and Cho Hi, It's Michael. Your morning show can
be heard on great radio stations across the country like
News Talk ninety two point one and six hundred WREC
in Memphis, Tennessee, or thirteen hundred The Patriot in Tulsa,
our Talk six fifty kste in Sacramento, California. We invite
you to listen live while you're getting ready in the morning,
and to take us along for the drive tour. But
(17:33):
as we always say, better late than never. Thanks for
joining us for the podcast. This is your morning show.
I'm Michael del Jorna. Welcome to Monday, July, the eighth
year of Our Lord twenty twenty four. Most of us
were busy celebrating the birth of our nation. Probably got
to get up to speed on the dysfunction of our nation.
Is a Democrat party in a panic? I think the
answer is clearly yes, and for good reason. Joe Biden
(17:57):
is trailing in about seven of the eighth swing states.
If the election were held today, he would lose by
at least three twelve to two twenty six. His approval
rating is at thirty eight percent. There's only twenty three
percent of America thinks we're heading in the right direction.
It doesn't look like Joe can win, but it also
looks like he's going to take down the entire party
with him if the election were held today. The US
(18:20):
Senate Republicans at forty nine, they have forty three with
eight toss ups. I don't have to tell you the
majority of those toss ups are leaning are if there's
no enthusiasm for the top of the ticket, would certainly
lean them. So members of Congress return home today, many
probably planning to get to the President and convince him
(18:42):
to step aside. But only he can only he can
turn over his delegates, and right now he's refusing to budge.
Is that defiance or is that denial? Or is one
student talkback caller acknowledged with dementia. They're kind of one
and the same, because denial is their survival mode. If
(19:07):
the President planned to make up for the bad debate
performance with the help of George Stepanophalis, he hung out
with the wrong guy because in the Friday sit down
with the President, Stepanophlis buried him and it didn't matter
what excuse the President gave. I was traveling international. Mister President,
you were back for eleven days. Is that not enough
(19:29):
time for you to rest? I wasn't prepared like I
should have been. You had six days to prepare well.
I had a cold, and Stepanophilis just kept coming back
at him with the cognitive impairment. In fact, we'll pick
it up right there where. He asked the President what
(19:51):
his doctor said. The President said, he said, I'm exhausted.
Watch your Stepanophlis keeps coming back at him.
Speaker 8 (19:57):
I am Medical doctors til me everywhere every present. Does
you know, medical doctors from the best in the world
try me everywhere I go. I have an ongoing assessment
of what I'm doing. They don't hesitate to tell me
if they think there's something wrong. I know.
Speaker 9 (20:14):
You say you have an ongoing assessment.
Speaker 10 (20:15):
Have you had a full neurological and cognitive evaluation.
Speaker 8 (20:20):
I've I get a full neurological test every day for
ris me, and I've had a full physical I.
Speaker 11 (20:27):
Had, you know, I mean I've been a well to
read for my physicals. I mean yes.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
By the way, anybody with a parent who is suffering
from dementia or Alzheimer's knows you can be physically very healthy.
That's not what's killing you. And the fact that he's
doing the job, or says he's doing the job, isn't
the answer. Watch stepanofal skips coming back. He does it
(20:54):
from all different angles, not the least of which is,
if the American people are concerned, why wouldn't you do it?
Just for them to put their misties and the president's
defy and throughout.
Speaker 10 (21:03):
Listen answered, I know your doctor city consulted with a neurologe.
I guess I'm asking a slightly different question. Have you
had the specific cognitive tests and have you had a
neurologists a specialist do an examination?
Speaker 11 (21:16):
No? No one said I had to. No one said,
they said, I'm good.
Speaker 10 (21:20):
Would you be willing to undergo an independent medical evaluation
that included neurological and cognitive cognit.
Speaker 9 (21:26):
Tests and release the results to the American people?
Speaker 8 (21:29):
Look, I have a cognitive test every single day, every day,
I have that test everything I do. You know, not
only am I campaigning, but I'm running the world.
Speaker 11 (21:40):
And that sound how it sounds like?
Speaker 1 (21:42):
I probably?
Speaker 11 (21:43):
But where are the central nation in the world? By them?
Speaker 9 (21:46):
All?
Speaker 1 (21:46):
That was right?
Speaker 8 (21:47):
And every single day, for example, today before I come
out here, I'm on the phone with the Prime Minister.
I shouldn't get into detail, but with now.
Speaker 1 (21:58):
And by the way, I shouldn't get into detail, was
a stall as he was trying to recall that yeah,
whose name it's just it's so painful.
Speaker 8 (22:05):
On the phone with the new Prime Minister of England.
I'm working on what we're doing.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
With regard to in Europe, with regard.
Speaker 8 (22:11):
To expansion the NATO and whether it's going to stick.
I'm taking on prudent I mean every day, there's no
day I go through. They're not those decisions that have
to make every single day.
Speaker 9 (22:22):
And you have been doing that.
Speaker 10 (22:23):
In the American people that been watching get their concerns
about your age and your health are growing.
Speaker 9 (22:29):
So that's why I'm asking to reassure them, would you
be willing.
Speaker 10 (22:32):
To have the independent medical evaluation watch may be treated.
Speaker 8 (22:36):
There's a lot of time that's in this campaign. It's
over one hundred and twenty five days.
Speaker 9 (22:41):
So the answer decision, the right answer right now.
Speaker 8 (22:43):
Is no, you don't want to do that, right, Well,
I've already done that in four days after this over
aware of over a million individual contributors. Individual contributors, let's
less than two hundred bucks.
Speaker 11 (22:57):
Yeah, well, I mean I've not seen what you're proposing.
Speaker 9 (23:04):
You haven't seen group the fall off in the polls.
Speaker 10 (23:07):
You haven't seen the reports of discontent in the Democratic
Party House Democrats Senate Democrats.
Speaker 11 (23:13):
I've seen from the press, you.
Speaker 10 (23:17):
Know, I've heard from dozens of your supporters over the
last few days in a variety of views.
Speaker 9 (23:21):
I grant you that, but the prevailing sentiment is this.
They love you and they will be forever grateful to
you for defeating Donald Trump in twenty twenty.
Speaker 10 (23:32):
They think you've done a great job as president, a
lot of successes you outlined, but they are worried about
you and the country, and they don't think you can win.
Speaker 9 (23:42):
They want you to go with grace and they will
cheer you if you do. What do you say to.
Speaker 8 (23:46):
Them, I say, the vast majority are and not where
that those folks are.
Speaker 11 (23:51):
How don't out there's some folks there.
Speaker 8 (23:53):
Have you ever seen a group of time when elected
officials running for office on a little.
Speaker 11 (23:59):
Worried I've never seen that. I'm not the same thing
happened in twenty twenty. Oh by no, no, what's you.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
Going to do again? He just gets an excuse after excuse,
pivot after pivot. But watch us Stepandophalis keeps coming back.
Speaker 9 (24:14):
He may bring me down. Man, mister president.
Speaker 10 (24:17):
I've never seen a president thirty six percent approval get reelected.
Speaker 12 (24:20):
Well, I don't believe that's my approval. That's not what
our posts show. And if you stay in and Trump
is elected and everything you're warning about comes to bass,
how will you feel in January?
Speaker 8 (24:32):
I feel as long as I gave it my all
and I did the goodest job as I know I
can do. That's what this is about. Look, George, thinking
that this way. You've heard me say this before. I
think the United States and the world is an inflection point.
But the things that happened the next seven years are
going to turn up the next six to seven decades.
Speaker 11 (24:53):
And quiet And who's going to be able to hold
nater together like me? Who's to be able to be.
Speaker 8 (25:00):
In a position where to be able to keep being
specific bas in a position where you're position.
Speaker 11 (25:08):
At least check baby China. Now, who's gonna who's gonna
do that? Who has that reach? Who has who knows
all these we're gonna have it? I guess a lot
good way to judge.
Speaker 8 (25:19):
Me, because you're going to have now Tonato conference here
in the United States next week. Come listen see what
they said present, Thanks for your time, Thank.
Speaker 1 (25:31):
You all right, So what you basically heard and it wasn't.
It was a thirty minute program. The interview itself was
probably about twenty three minutes. Was either defiance or denial?
I don't have the answer for that. I had one
stud call her to the talkback make a great point,
and I know, because I'm dealing with a relative with
(25:54):
severe dementia, that they're really one and the same, because
denial is the chief defense mechanism for those suffering from
dementia to protect themselves the fear of you putting them away.
So denial and defiance are kind of a part of
dementia politically, it's the answer to this question. But what
(26:19):
you heard for twenty three minutes was George Stepanopholis representing
the media. We're no longer going to cover for you.
You can't give us your narrativized excuses. We're going to
hold you accountable relentlessly. Now, did these Dems in the
mainstream media turn on the president? You see with this
(26:44):
interview reveals more than anything else, is how they've been
covering up for him when he ran in twenty twenty
and throughout his presidency. But they're looking at these numbers
in the swing states and the overall electoral College map
and his approval rating and right direction and wrong direction,
and they see he can't win, and they see he's
going to take down the House and the Senate with him.
(27:04):
Now they're turning on him. So with the party against him,
with leaders in the House and Senate against him, and
the media against him, will Joe go? And so far
the answer is no. Hey, this is top Cop Kathy
(27:28):
Hinters in my morning show.
Speaker 9 (27:29):
Is your morning show with Michael Dale Jorno.
Speaker 1 (27:32):
If you're just joining us, Goose meet Gander. Mark Mayfield's
here with Today In politics, Ohio Senator j D.
Speaker 5 (27:38):
Varance is defending former President Trump's claim he'll appoint a
special prosecutor to investigate President Biden if he's elected. During
an interview with NBC's Meet the Press, the Republicans said
Trump is simply saying he'll investigate alleged wrongdoing in the
Biden administration.
Speaker 13 (27:53):
So I think Donald Trump saying, look, let's do the
basic work of investigating wrongdoing is a totally reasonable thing
for him to do, and frankly, the Biden administration has
done far worse.
Speaker 5 (28:04):
Trump paris threatened to appoint a special prosecutor to target
Biden and his family. Vance's reportedly on Trump's shortlist for
vice president and President. Biden hit the campaign trail in
Pennsylvania on Sunday. Speaking at a historically black church in Philadelphia,
Biden said as president, he's always tried to walk his faith.
He talked about his administration's record on supporting black communities
(28:24):
and said his goal in running for reelection is to
reunite America again. Biden also had a campaign event in Harrisburg,
just days after insisting he won't drop out of the
twenty twenty four presidential race. That's politics, Mark Mayfield, NBC
News Radio.
Speaker 1 (28:37):
And now to make matters worse for the president, Congress
is returning today, and many of those Democrats plan to
visit with the President and encourage him to step aside
like George Stepanophilis did, like the media has been doing.
Will he listen, Roy O'Neil, your morning show correspondent, is
here with us, Rory. One of the key moments in
(28:58):
that whole interview with George Stepano was when Stepanoflis says
to Biden, if you hear from Clyburn, if you hear
from Chuck Schumer, if you hear from Nancy Pelosi, then
will you step aside? He basically says they won't. Denial. Secondly, defiance,
he says, if the Lord tells me to, I will.
(29:19):
So I guess the answer is, even if they do,
he's not going to listen. Well, I guess we're all
about to find out right, well, right, and this is
going to be a big week.
Speaker 14 (29:27):
Even Senator Chris Murphy from Connecticut, a strong Biden supporter,
he was even hedging his backs a bit during an
appearance on CNN this weekend when he said how important
this week ahead will be for any Biden campaign. Joe
Biden has the chance, has an opportunity to look incredibly
presidential this week. He's got a press conference tomorrow, He's
(29:50):
got all the NATO members in Washington, d C.
Speaker 1 (29:54):
This could be a really strong week for.
Speaker 14 (29:56):
Him unless he fails to deliver, and it could be
failing on the world stage at that point.
Speaker 1 (30:02):
So, and as we heard from Senator.
Speaker 14 (30:05):
Murphy, now that we've also got all the Democrats back
in Washington, you know, they haven't been in DC since
the debate, so this is the first time reporters get
to chase them down and specifically ask them where they stand.
Speaker 1 (30:17):
So I've often brought up the nineteen sixty eight comparison
because there's so many parallels, including this Democratic Convention coming
up back in Chicago like it was in sixty eight.
And if you look at the scoreboard, you can see
why they're panicked. The numbers clearly from approval rating to
right direction, wrong direction, to swing states to electoral college
(30:37):
map point clearly too. We can't win, but worse at
points that they could lose the Senate and lose even
greater control in the House. That's what's got them panicked.
That's why their return becomes so important. But he doesn't
seem to be interested in budging LBJ saw he couldn't
win and did step out. Only Joe can step out,
(30:59):
and if he doesn't, they're stuck with him. If he does,
the indications are they're looking at Kamala Harris. But I
got news for you to her numbers are the only
ones that look worse than his right.
Speaker 14 (31:09):
Well, we did get some polling last week that showed
she was doing better than he was, and some poll
numbers out this morning shows six out of the seven
swing states are in toss up mode. But to your point,
Donald Trump has still been doing much better in the
polls in the past month or so two months, and
then the concern is that the debate performance would seal
(31:29):
the deal for a lot of voters after that disastrous
performance by the former president, and the ABC interview with
Stephanopoulos was fine, but it certainly isn't anything that moved
the needle. It's not like he suddenly started reciting Shakespeare
for memory. So yeah, it's going to be an interesting
week to see how this unfolds, because you know, as
(31:50):
you said, the Democrat the president is not in a
bubble here. There are plenty of Democrats saying, hey, what
about us, and most of them reside on Capitol Hill.
Speaker 1 (32:00):
Now that they're back to work, we'll see how noisy
things get from the House and Senate. Well, and it's
kind of all backfired, right, So all the attacks on
Trump and locking them up in court and getting them convicted,
that didn't work. The media covering up the cognitive issues
of the president until now may have been too long,
(32:20):
and now they find themselves in a panic trying to
make a deal. And as our colleague Garon Reyl reported,
even the money, the big time grass top donors, they're
very concerned but they moved along. He's got the delegates,
they're his and unless he steps aside, they've kind of
made their bed. And if they have to sleep in it, well,
you know what this time is about. This is about
(32:42):
getting ready for your convention, uniting your party for the
general election. Boy, they couldn't be more divided, could they. Well,
and you've.
Speaker 14 (32:48):
Also had the Republicans sitting back letting the Democrats implode
on their own of course, not wanting things to go
too far, you know, because they are winning in the
polls against Joe Biden.
Speaker 1 (33:00):
You know, who knows what's going to happen.
Speaker 14 (33:01):
If it's Scavin Newsommer, Kamala Harris, you don't really know.
So that would really, you know, upbend the apple cart. So,
and we're heading into the rnc IS next week. A
lot of people don't realize it's next week when they're
actually going to start going on the attack using the
poor debate performance and other evidence about the president's abilities.
Speaker 1 (33:20):
I'll do one last question, but I think it's a softball.
Uh do you think Donald Trump is going to visit
a second time with Joe Biden? Translation? Why on earth
would he do a second debate? Now, oh, why no,
same reason he didn't.
Speaker 14 (33:34):
President Trump didn't debate his Republican opponents in the primary.
Speaker 1 (33:38):
Why bother? So the stepanophilis didn't help. You're not going
to get a second debate. I don't I don't know
how they moved the needle. I don't see a way
for them to move the needle. If I was in
a room trying to strategize with the Democrats, I'd say, punt.
It's fourth and thirty two. Punt.
Speaker 14 (33:52):
Well, especially when you are a man running for a
senate in my a Democrat running for senate in Montana,
or in Pennsylvania or in Ohio, and you're looking at
a coin flip.
Speaker 1 (34:03):
Of a race, and you know the arrival of Air
Force one? Are you gonna help you out this time around?
Remember when we worried about riots in Chicago at the
Democratic Convention over the you know, the boogeyman, Donald Trump.
They may have a riot over Joe Biden instead.
Speaker 9 (34:18):
There.
Speaker 1 (34:19):
