Speaker 2 (00:19):
Well two three, starting your morning off right, A new way.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
Of talk, a new way of understanding, because we're in
this to get. This is your Morning Show with Michael
O'Dell trum. Six minutes after the hour, the curtain rises
on the Democratic National Convention in Chicago today. President Biden
will headline the first night. Meanwhile, Palestinian authorities say Israeli

(00:46):
strikes and the Gaza strip have killed nineteen. That might
gin up the protesters in Chicago for the convention, where
the Mayor and the Governor assure everyone security plans are
in place, Everything's gonna be just swell. Meanwhile, Ernesto is
once again a hurricane churning towards the coast of Canada.
Good morning, and welcome to Monday, August and nineteenth year

(01:08):
of our Lord twenty twenty four on the Aaron streaming
live on your iHeartRadio app. This is your Morning Show.
I'm Michael del Jorna. Well, all eyes turned to Chicago
for the convention. We're going to preview this obviously throughout
the morning with our full panel of experts. Your morning
show reporter Aaron roy O'Neil's going to be joining us.

(01:29):
The presidential campaign has been turned upside down over the
past few weeks. What about the control of Congress? Stop
right there, because what could matter more than that? If
I wish everybody on a golf course or everybody that
meets me at a restaurant would say, who do you
think is going to control the Senate? In the House,

(01:52):
that would be very encouraging for me. But America has
an obsession with the presidency, an obsession, an obsession our
founding fathers simply didn't have. And I got news for you.
It's a two edged sword, this grand delusion they're creating
over the presidency. Despair and hopelessness with Biden, followed by

(02:16):
happy days they're here again and all with Kamala Harris
the first person out. We're to believe that the woman
four years ago who Telsey Gabbard. Well, let mean, before
I get to that four years ago who attacked Joe
Biden as a racist, and then Tulsey Gabbard ran off

(02:41):
enslaid this party was more interested in Pete Buddhajij than her.
Now she is the savior of the Democrat Party. And
over what issue, over what proven trial record. It's a

(03:01):
grand illusion, and I'll grant you they're parties falling for it,
but not so fast on all of America. And so
now the curtain rises on their convention, a convention that
is designed to a nominate a president and a vice president,

(03:22):
which they've already done in a coup, excluding their voters,
and then unify behind the ticket. Well, like the Republicans,
they appear to be arriving unified, but they're not unified
over Israel. And there's a reason the National Guard is present.

(03:47):
They don't want a nineteen sixty eight. Again. I found
this to be by far and away the most interesting
story of the day. So to ABC Channel seven WLA
TV in Chicago, we go a security footprint around the
United Center and McCormick Place goes into effect ahead of

(04:09):
the twenty twenty four Democratic National Convention. The security footprint
area encompasses a fifteen foot buffer around the perimeter of
the McCormick Place and the United Center and includes Union
Park Park five seventy eight, where large protesters are planning
to be Remember, in nineteen sixty eight, the cause was

(04:32):
the Vietnam War. Today it's Israel Hamas has balad Iran War.
In nineteen sixty eight, the protest turned to violence and
in the streets of Chicago blood flew, flowed, and then
it managed to get its way into the Convention Hall.

(04:55):
This would be the plan to keep nineteen sixty eight
from happening again and keep it eye to outside these
areas with a fifteen foot buffer. Now within this area,
believe it or not that this is the whole zero
two zero two four dash eight three seven to three
Security Footprint Chicago Ordinance. Within this area, you cannot push, pull,

(05:19):
or transport any vehicle, cart or float. I don't think
they're planning Marti grop. You're not allowed to throw any items.
Remember Kamala Harris is the one that said everything that
Antifa in Black Lives Matter was doing leading up to
what was their planned insurrection, that they were able to
call off because they won the election, but that was
to condition you for an insurrection. That was good trouble.

(05:42):
Now suddenly, for the DNC Convention, it's not so good trouble.
You are not allowed to throw anything, set anything on fire,
break anything. You're also not allowed to possess any item
deemed a potential safety hazard, including large bags, suitcases, laptops,
sealed packages, drones, animals other than service dogs, bicycle scooters,

(06:07):
folding chairs, balloons, coolers, class thermal metal containers, umbrellas with
metal tips, tobacco products including ease cigarettes. He'll be no
vaper in our buffer zone. Do you imagine the one
guy just says, you're out of here. I've just obviously
no lighters, matches, firearms, ammunitions, fireworks, tense structures, pointed objects

(06:31):
of any kind, especially those including knives. In issuing those
rules prohibiting those items from the demonstration zones, Chicago Police
Department says they're in accordance with the city ordinance and
violators could face jail time. The security restrictions and footprint

(06:51):
will remain in place until twelve oh one a m. Monday,
August the twenty sixth, so throughout the convention and throughout
the dismantling of the convention. Crews also worked to set
up vehicle screening checkpoints around McCormick Place, which will start

(07:13):
screening cars in the area around the convention center. Well,
they started on Friday of last week. Hopefully the checkpoints
go smoother than I thought, because I'll be driving to
work this week. But I'm glad they're taking it seriously,
said one South Loop resident. Personally, I think it's a
little overkill, but I'd rather have overkilled than not enough,

(07:35):
so it works for me, said another South Loop resident.
Even the area around the United Center has become more
fortified with eight foot fences and concrete barriers. Why is
this my favorite story of the day, Because there seems
to be a disconnect between the issues and the platform

(08:02):
of a specific party and the actions on the streets
of its own sovereign nation for its convention. It's priceless.
There are no words. You can't make this stuff up.
From the party that is against building a wall to

(08:25):
protect our southern border, to protect our sovereignty as a republic,
comes a Democrat party with those stances at the border,
with a fifteen foot buffer around their convention. An eight
foot tall fence in barricades around their convention hall. Oh,

(08:46):
the sovereignty of their party is in full force. If
and according to Poles it is. If the number one
issue is the economy and the border, this is a mistake.

(09:09):
What now in their defense, if it goes bad, well,
then it's nineteen sixty eight and they don't like playing
nineteen sixty eight, although they're playing it to the t
LBJ gone now, Biden gone. You have a third party
candidate RFK Junior. Then you had a vice president from

(09:35):
the administration. You had an anti civil rights candidate in Wallace,
you had an anti war candidate and McCarthy. Oh, and
then you had your Republican opponent, Richard Nixon. And in
sixty eight Richard Nixon talked to the silent center that
wasn't playing any of these extreme games and was focused
on their own home, their own jobs, their own children's future.

(09:57):
And he won, which gets it to Donald Trump, right,
and there are many within the party urging him stick
to the issues, stop playing the games. Axios has really
been kind of beating this drum, and their headline is

(10:25):
Sunday Snapshot. Republicans admit Trump the provocateur could lose, And
the point of the story is to basically say, if
he sticks to the issues, he could win and should win.
If he plays Trump games, he will lose. Listen to
how the story folds unfolds. Republicans are urging their candidate
to stick to policy rather than targeting Vice President Kamala

(10:47):
Harris for her intelligence, which he did again this weekend,
racial identity, which he brought up again actually this weekend,
as he said vice President, I've never heard of her.
How are you unaware of who the vice president of
the United States is? But he did.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
Pamela Harris is a super left liberal who ruined San Francisco,
ruined a California and delivered a badly broken economy, a
badly broken border.

Speaker 1 (11:28):
Now that would be an example of what you can do.
I never heard of her. I mean, Axios kind of
onto something here. But you know what, they played the
same game as Harris went on a campaign this weekend
of how Donald Trump's a coward. That one will be

(11:51):
interesting to follow the woman who is yet in twenty
seven days now to do an interview is calling him
a coward. I point this out because a I agree
with Lindsey Graham. I agree with some of the Republicans.
He were saying, the biggest dilemma for Kamala Harris for

(12:13):
all of this grand illusion, to quote the stick song,
that they have created a narrativized delusion of kumbayah and momentum.
This is the first woman out in twenty twenty. Now
she's the savior. And what are her policies that are
different from Joe Biden's That sixty four percent of America
think we're heading in the wrong direction, that's the real

(12:34):
heavy lifting they got to do at the convention this week,
unifying their party in a grand illusion. That's like drinking
kool aid, no problem. But for the rest of America,
if she distances herself, well, how do they play him
up from Aunt Rushmore tonight in his legacy speech? And
if she does in distance, how do they distance themselves

(12:56):
from the wrong direction. And while everybody's saying Trump, just
stick to the economy, stick to the border, you'll win, Well,
now she's playing the coward card. And as that nonsense
all plays out, there's RFK Junior waiting in the general
cycle to gain more and more momentum, which is bad
news for Kamala Harris. Because even in their grand illusion

(13:16):
and what little momentum has tightened up the race two
to one, RFK hurts her over Trump. There's a lot
of game to be played. Sure, it's a shortened game
the way they've done it, but there's still a game
to be played, Interviews to be had, debates to be had,
and decisions to be made as to whether or not

(13:38):
to distance in platform and in presidency from Joe Biden,
which is to say, somehow, some way, John Podesta's got
to find a way through his puppet to distance himself
from himself, which he'll be tricky. Oh and by the way,
all the Podesta stable will be in play this week

(14:01):
tonight Joe Biden a Podesta created Bill Clinton, who he
ran for eight years, Hillary Clinton, who he ran and
lost in twenty sixteen, and who was first Lady when
he ran Bill for eight years. Barack Obama, and Michelle
Obama who we created and ran for eight years. Joe
Biden tonight, who we created. Oh and it'll all wrap

(14:22):
up with his Thursday creation Kamala Harris with walls and
barricades to protect the sovereignty and safety of the party
as they disregard the sovereignty of our nation and the
safety of you, the American people at the border. You
can't make it up. Can't make it up. This is
your Morning Show with Michael del Chona. This is your

(14:44):
morning show, and these are your top five stories of
the day. Waking up well, the curtain rises on the
Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Mark Mayfield has the story.

Speaker 4 (14:55):
President Biden spent the weekend at Camp David working on
his keynote address with top aide. Biden is expected to
make his case for Vice President Kamala Harris to succeed
him when he speaks to delegates and a nationwide television
audience Monday night.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
Day one of the convention.

Speaker 4 (15:09):
Will include a series of tributes to Biden and what
Democratic officials are calling a passing of the Torch moment,
with Harris joining him on stage.

Speaker 1 (15:16):
I'm Mark Nephew. ILLINOI Governor J. B. Pritzker says Chicago
is ready for the pro Palestinian protesters at the DNC.

Speaker 5 (15:23):
We're going to protect the protesters but also protect all
the people visiting, fifty thousand people coming to Chicago and
the residents of Chicago. So the plan's been in place
for a year and a quarter now already we're going.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
To execute on that plan the next four days. And
that plan includes the Illinois National Guard.

Speaker 5 (15:38):
Nobody expects that we'll have to use them for anything
very serious, but we also want to make sure that
we have additional law enforcement type folks who are in
uniform and who are trained to be police.

Speaker 1 (15:51):
And while the curtain rises on the DNC in Chicago,
VP Kamala Harris and her running meeter a hitting the
campaign trail, Lisa Cardin has more.

Speaker 6 (16:00):
Speaking to a crowd in Rochester, Harris rallied support for
Democratic lawmakers and key mallet races this November.

Speaker 7 (16:07):
There are a lot of incredible leaders here. I want
to just for a moment mention my friend Bob Casey.

Speaker 2 (16:13):
We have got to send him back to the United States.

Speaker 6 (16:16):
Senate Harris went on to contrast her approach to politics
with that of her political opponents, saying the true measure
of a leader is not who they beat down, but
who they lift up. She's visiting Democratic strongholds across the
battleground state, but will also make stops in Republican leading
areas like Beaver County. I'm Lisa Carton.

Speaker 1 (16:35):
You know when they go low, we go high, and
preseason NFL football Titans rallied to beat the Seahawks sixteen fifteen.
That's a win for our for our Tennessee audience, a
loss for our Seattle audience. Commanders lost thirteen six to
the Finns, Cardinals lost twenty one to thirteen to the Colts,
brownsfelt twenty seven to twelve to the Vikings, and the
Bucks dropped one of the Jags twenty to seven. And

(16:56):
baseball Mariners one, Nationals one, Rangers one, Raise one, d Backs, Cardinals,
and Guardians loss. Birthdays today. Former President Bill Clinton, seventy
eight birthday today, speaks at the DNC tomorrow. Actor John
Samos is sixty one, and NFL quarterback Kurt Cousins is
thirty six years old. If it's your birthday, Happy birthday.

(17:16):
We're so glad you were born and thanks for making
us a part of your big day.

Speaker 2 (17:19):
Hi.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
I'm Michael. I'd love to have you listen to your
morning show live every day. We're hurt on great stations
like News Talk five fifty k FYI and Phoenix News
Radio eleven ninety k e X in Portland and ten
ninety The Patriot in Seattle. Make us a part of
your morning routine. We'd love to have you listen live,
but in the meantime, enjoy the podcast. The curtain rises
on the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Biden delivered the

(17:41):
headline address tonight on the legacy of his presidency. Palistinating
authorities say Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip if killed
nineteen that might gin up the protesters in Chicago, where
the mayor and the governors say all as well as
security plans are in place, there'll be no nineteen sixty
eight around here at Rory O'Neil, of course, has rested.
He has no children. I of course aim half asleep

(18:04):
after a week in Saint Louis and then moving kids
into college yesterday.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
I'm too old for this stuff, Rory, And now you know,
too full of Battalian pasta.

Speaker 1 (18:14):
I think I shamelessly ate three nights in a row
on the hill at three different Italian establishments. And I'm
telling you, well, I waited for you at gate number
two of the Cardinals game. You never showed on Friday night. Well,
but yeah, we got to do that. We gotta do
Saint Louis together. One trip and let me feed you

(18:35):
it was. It was outrageous, But yes, garlic on my breath,
I press on towards our top story of the day.
You know, all the focus will be on the unity
of this ticket in Chicago and sending off a presidential
candidate a vice presidential candidate for the general election. But
really what matters, and I think would matter to our
founding fathers his control of the House and the Senate,

(18:57):
that's where the laws are made. You've been keeping an
eye on that part of the ticket.

Speaker 2 (19:01):
Yeah, and I don't have a whole lot of answers
for you. You know, going into this, before there was
the switch at the top of the ticket for the Democrats,
it looked like the Republicans would win back control of
the Senate and probably the House. But ooh, that House
math is a lot more confusing these days because we're
not really sure just how much all of this Harris

(19:22):
momentum is just you know, the excitement after the big switchover,
or if this really will translate into votes this November.
So the House is much more difficult to predict, although
still most of the polls show I think that the
Republicans are on a clearer path to win back control
of the Senate.

Speaker 1 (19:40):
Yes, that seems to be consistent. You know what's interesting,
America loves checks and balances. That's been true throughout political history.
And if you play this, I call it the stix
Grand illusion tour. You play this grand illusion up that
you know it's Kumbaia, it's a foregarde conclusion. Kamala Harris
is going to win, and you do that for two

(20:01):
three months in order to try to get her over
the finish line. America might read those tea leaves as Okay,
it's going to be a Kamala presidency, so let's give
the Republicans control of the House and Senate for checks
and balances. The momentum could shift when it was a
foregone conclusion Trump was going to win. That's when I
was concerned about Republicans saying ye to the House and Senate.

(20:22):
So it begs the question, why isn't the reverse true? Now?
I do not subscribe to that theory. You don't you
think it's the top of the take it goes the
bottom goes, well, No.

Speaker 2 (20:32):
I think it's about you know, Pete Smith or Sally Jones.

Speaker 1 (20:35):
I don't think it's about well, you know, to help
my party take over. Blah blah blah, I'm going to
vote for blah blah blah.

Speaker 2 (20:41):
I no, I think that they've When it comes to
members of Congress, I think people vote on the personality
because they all think.

Speaker 1 (20:47):
Congress is full of a bunch of bumps except for
my guy. Well, I agree with that that that is
a definite fascinating sentiment to me. The opinion of Congress
as a whole is always, well, it's below this is
the lowest form of life. Oh but I love Marsha Blackburn.
Oh but I love so and so and such and such.

(21:07):
Ye oh, yeah, she marched to my parade. She got
me a flag. You know, he got me a tour.
He's great. So he helped my uncle get social Security.
We love that member of Congress. But the rest of them,
they're all bombs. Throw them out.

Speaker 7 (21:19):
You know.

Speaker 1 (21:19):
We see consistently that Donald Trump supported candidates seem to
do well. Does Kamala Harris have that kind of coattail
for underneath her? Senator Oz would have a few questions. Yeah,
I don't know, do they do well?

Speaker 2 (21:37):
Sort of a mixed bag with his endorsements, But I
don't think that there's any I don't think Harris has
any coattails right now, but she may have some momentum
that she brings. If she brings in young a different
demographic to vote, whether it be minority populations or more
women to the polls, could be interesting.

Speaker 1 (21:54):
But then we're also seeing more states.

Speaker 2 (21:55):
Are still adding stuff to their ballots on issues like
abortion in marijuana that could drive turn it.

Speaker 1 (22:01):
And then I think you know you're going to see
Harris did it over the weekend introducing congressional candidates. I
think you're going to see these presidential candidates as they
make these appearance, especially in the swing states, they'll be
bringing some of these key races to the platform with them.
So we'll keep an eye on that right now. I
think Rory, if everybody's honest, I don't know if people
do this to you like they do to me, if

(22:22):
they bump into you, hey who's going to win the race.
And of course there's an obsession with the presidency. I
wish more people would say, hey, who do you think
is going to win control of Congress? Who do you
think is going to win control of the Senate. There
doesn't seem to be that same genuine interest. But one
thing's for sure. I don't believe that it's a runaway
for Kamala Harris. But I can go through the Real
Clear Politics polls and tell you things have tightened up
in the swing states. It's a dead heat and within

(22:44):
the margin of eras.

Speaker 2 (22:45):
The better question is who's going to win the electoral
college versus right.

Speaker 1 (22:49):
And by the way, if you go to Real Clear
Politics today and you take out the you know, toss
up states and you force it to decide today, it
has Trump leading two eighty seven to two fifty one.
And if you look, if you look at the electoral
college map, it's right now, Trump two nineteen to Harris

(23:11):
two to eight. And then you got one hundred and
eleven in the toss up column. So this is we've
got a long way to go. But if you go
into the swing states where it's going to be decided,
Harris leads by one in Wisconsin. Trump leads by one
tenth in Pennsylvania. Harris leads by two in Michigan. So
so far they've managed to flip things in Wisconsin and

(23:32):
Michigan back in their favor. Pennsylvania may decide this whole election,
and it's a dead heat with Trump up a tenth.
Arizona's still in the Trump column. Nevada is still in
the Trump column. North Carolina is still in the Trump column.
George is still in the Trump column, although it's gotten
very close this well. As we've said, it's going to
go into the wee hours of the night. But frankly,
if we're waiting on Pennsylvania and mail in votes, it

(23:54):
could be four or five days. We got a ballgame,
we got we got ourselves a convoy. All right, Rory's
going to be back next hour. We're going to talk
about after a relatively calm Republican convention last month, thousands
of protesters are gathered in Chicago, and while they don't
believe in walls and border security, walls have been erected,

(24:15):
fences and barriers have been put in place to protect
the DNC convention. We'll have more on that with Rory
next How well, if you're just waking up, obviously, our
top story of the day, the curtain rises on the
Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Mark Mayfield has more.

Speaker 4 (24:34):
President Biden spent the weekend at Camp David working on
his keynote address with top aids Biden is expected to
make his case for Vice President Kamala Harris, who succeed him,
when he speaks to delegates and a nationwide television audience
Monday night.

Speaker 1 (24:47):
Day one of the convention.

Speaker 4 (24:48):
Will include a series of tributes to Biden and what
Democratic officials are calling a passing of the Torch moment,
with Harris joining him on stage.

Speaker 1 (24:56):
I'm Mark Neefield. Protesters are already hitting the street ho
for the DNC. A large crowd of demonstrators march downtown
last night demanding abortion rights and LGBTQ rights. Wait will
they meet those that are going to be gathering for
hamas has bea law and Iran in the Israeli fight,
They may not get along, actually now that I think

(25:17):
if it. Protesters are expected to take place throughout the
four day convention, which begins later today. However, Governor Pritzker
says Chicago is ready for the pro Palestinian protesters at
the convention this week.

Speaker 5 (25:29):
We're going to protect the protesters, but also protect all
the people visiting, fifty thousand people coming to Chicago and
the residents of Chicago. So the plan's been in place
for a year and a quarter now, already. We're going
to execute on that plan the next four days.

Speaker 1 (25:41):
He also confirmed that the Illinois National Guard will be
there to assist local police.

Speaker 5 (25:46):
Nobody expects that we'll have to use them for anything
very serious, but we also want to make sure that
we have additional law enforcement type folks who are in
uniform and who are trained to be police.

Speaker 1 (26:00):
That's a military presidence for short. Republican vice presidential candidate
j D. Vance is pushing back against recent polling showing
a surge in support for Vice President Harris in the
presidential race Lisa Cardon Reports.

Speaker 6 (26:13):
Appearing on Fox New Sunday, Vance claimed polling at this
point an election season has often not reflected the results
of the presidential election.

Speaker 1 (26:21):
Look. I recognize that there are a lot of folks,
even in the GOP establishment and certainly on the far left,
who don't like the fact that Donald Trump picked me.

Speaker 7 (26:28):
I actually take their criticism as a badge of honor.

Speaker 6 (26:31):
He went on to say that Harris's rhetoric on economic
policy is not resonating with voters and that Americans were
much better off under former President Trump. This comes after
a poll was recently released by the Washington Post. ABC
News and ipsus that has Harris leading Trump by a
few percentage points nationally.

Speaker 1 (26:49):
I'm Lisa Cartin speaking of former President Trump. He was
back on the campaign trail in Pennsylvania, spoke to a
crowd of supporters at Wilkesbear on Saturday, claiming America would
be worse off under Kamala hair.

Speaker 3 (27:00):
Kamala Harris is a super left liberal who ruined San Francisco,
ruined a California, and delivered a badly broken economy, a
badly broken border.

Speaker 1 (27:14):
Trump says it's vital Republicans win this election.

Speaker 3 (27:17):
Under Kamala Harris and crooker Joe Biden. The American dream
was dead and it is dead.

Speaker 1 (27:24):
It's dead as a doornail. They'll never bring it back
unless we win well. This week's stanc is all about
the party's unity. Trump claims Biden resents Harris.

Speaker 3 (27:33):
Joe Biden hates sir.

Speaker 1 (27:36):
Okay, hate sir. This was an overthrow of a president. Yeah.
A songwriter behind several well known hits in the sixties
has passed away. Scott Carr reports Jerry Fuller gave up
on a singing career in the late fifties himself, but
with his friend Glenn Campbell later became part of the

(27:56):
LA recording studio scene, heading several hits over the course
of the next decade, including one about a young girl
that he wrote for a group he discovered in a
San Diego bowling alley lounge. Gary Puckett in the Union
Cap Pullers had other heads for Ricky Nelson and Vader
El Wilson.

Speaker 5 (28:16):
I'm a traveling man, his wife reports.

Speaker 1 (28:26):
Fuller died at his LA home last month from complications
of lung cancer. He was eighty five. I'm Scott Carr translation.
He had a lot of heads. Titans won, Seahawks loss,
Commander's loss, Cardinals lost, Brown's loss, Bucks loss. That's preseason football.
In baseball, Mariners won ten three over the Pirates. NAT's
won six to four over the Phillies. Rangers won six

(28:47):
y five over the Twins, raised one eight to seven
over the d Backs, d Backs, Cardinals, and Guardians all loss.

Speaker 7 (28:56):
This is your favorite President forty five.

Speaker 6 (29:01):
And my morning show is your morning show with a
guy I like to call Leacher Boy.

Speaker 7 (29:06):
It's not delivery, it's still join up.

Speaker 1 (29:09):
If you're listening on your iHeartRadio app, there's a microphone
you can press it. Leave us a message hit send,
We get it immediately. We can share it with the class.
A lot of people like to record there, I'm so
and so from such and such. My morning show is
your morning show there as well. That's not the puff
us up, Puff us up. That's for you to introduce
yourself to your fellow Americans here at the morning kitchen table.
And of course always good old fashioned email Michael D.

(29:30):
We spare you the spelling of the last name, Michael
D at iHeartMedia dot com. Fifty two minutes after the
hour waking Up the curtain rises on the DNC Convention,
we'll get a preview with Chris Walker, Republican consultant, analyst
done what the keys to the game of this unity
grand delusion? Kamala traveling Salvation show DNC message goes And

(29:53):
we also have the Palestinian authority saying that the Israeli
strikes in the Gaza killed nineteen people. That might gin
up some of the protester the Chicago's erecting fences and
barriers to protect the convention hall from and Ernesto is
once again a hurricane and churning towards the coast of Canada.
That's kind of the top stories. As we're waking up

(30:14):
this morning, all eyes are on the convention. I guess
twofold one eyeball is on those outside the convention to
make sure nineteen sixty eight doesn't rear its ugly head again.
In nineteen sixty eight, there was a lot of anti
Vietnam War sentiment, and the protesters were in the streets
and then they spilled over into the convention hall. So
all of that, including the Illinois National Guard and the

(30:38):
police coordination and the barriers have been set to protect
any drunken riots in the States. Meanwhile, inside the building,
it's all about building unity for the ticket, and that
all begins with the guy who got ousted, Joe Biden. Tonight,
John Decker is our White House correspondent here with the preview.
We expect this to be a legacy speech. Oh absolutely.

Speaker 7 (31:00):
I mean Joe Biden spent his entire career in politics,
from the age of twenty nine when he was elected
to the US Senate until this moment until January the twentieth,
when he hands the keys over to either Kamala Harris
or Donald Trump. And this will be a look back
at his career, look back at his only term as president,

(31:21):
what he's accomplished, and also passing the baton over to
Kamala Harris, who this week will officially decrown the Democratic
presidential nominee, and that will be the focus of this convention,
not Joe Biden. That's not what he thought it was
going to be just over a month ago.

Speaker 1 (31:39):
No, and I appreciate you taking the human side of
it first. All right. So here's a guy that spent
his entire life in politics, and let's face it, ran
for president. How many times? Was it three or four?

Speaker 7 (31:50):
Wow? I mean you'd have to go all the way
back to nineteen eighty eight.

Speaker 1 (31:52):
Yes, I think it's four altogether for president. Yeah, So
this was his lifelong ambition. From a human standpoint, it's
kind of tragic when you think about it. When he
finally got his chance, Maybe he was at the end
of his game, not at the top of his game.
That's clear. It's a difficult speech tonight. I mean, this
president is still president. His approval rating is forty percent,
his disapproval rating is fifty six percent. That's pretty upside down,

(32:16):
and twenty five percent of the nation thinks we're heading
in the right direction under him. Sixty four point nine
percent think we're headed in the wrong direction. It's you know,
his party's relieved he has stepped aside for Kamala. But
that's a tough that's a tough temperature to give such
a speech.

Speaker 7 (32:33):
Well, it is, but he's going to be warmly embraced
tonight by those people at the United Centure, those delegates
who are so thankful for him to step aside, to
withdraw from the race, to pass the baton to Kamala Harris.
And the reason being is pretty obvious. Democrats feel that
their chances have increased dramatically with Kamala Harris at the

(32:54):
top of the ticket rather than Joe Biden. And for
the reasons that you just mentioned, Michael.

Speaker 1 (32:59):
Well, John Decker's White House Correspondent's also a Supreme Court
bar attorney, joins us one of my favorite contributors by far.
You know, we've covered this. The media was unbelievably relentless
when it turned down Joe Biden, and then it suddenly
has turned and completely gotten behind Kamala Harris. And there's
about three hundred and seventy million dollars worth of checks

(33:21):
coming their way. That's how much advertising is planned, right.

Speaker 7 (33:24):
Yeah, that's right, and they have a lot left over too,
So it's all about advertising, but then it's also about
getting out the vote. So you can have the message
out there over the airwaves, but then you also have
to convince Democrats, independents, disaffected Republicans to go out and
cast their vote for Harris and Wolves. And so that's

(33:44):
a big part for both campaigns, getting out the vote.
That's the real trick, secret whatever you want to call it,
to win any political race, and that is no different
this year for the presidential race of twenty twenty four.

Speaker 1 (33:58):
All right, one minute to go, now the conversation Black
and White DNC convention. They've executed their you know, removal
of Biden, insertion of Kamala Harris. What's the one thing
you think they need to accomplish this week in Chicago?

Speaker 7 (34:16):
Well, you know, you hit on that word. Unity is
so important, and you know, both political parties always hope
for a bounce, a boost out of these political conventions,
more momentum, because we've seen the momentum on the Democratic side,
and you know, I think you hit upon it right
before getting to me. Let's I think for Democrats, they

(34:37):
don't want their message of unity to be eclipsed in
any way by any protests that happened during the course
of this week in Chicago. So that's also something that
we'll be looking for. Law enforcement, we'll be looking for.
Let those Democrats that you know want a unity message
coming out of Chicago will certainly be paying attention to
as well.

Speaker 1 (34:56):
White House correspond to John Decker, Thanks so much, have
a great day. We're all in this together. This is
