Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, listen, everybody has promised we got an old friend
on the show, back in love again.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
This is an lted moment. Back in Love, Ladies and gentlemen.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
We had him on the show so many times, and
we're just excited to have him back. He's one of
our favorite doctors back on the show. He's a noted physician,
he's a TV personality, he's a New York Times bestselling author,
and for years, I'm telling you, he has been an
advocate for healthy living. He's been talking to us about

(00:33):
proper exercise and nutrition.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
And now he's got a new book.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
It's a Guy to help you adapt a healthier lifestyle. Now.
This is twenty twenty five, so it's a good time
to get on this now. The book is titled Eat
Your Age, Eat Your Age, and he's here to tell
us more about it. Let's get to it. Please, welcome
back to the show, our buddy, our friend, family member,
Doctor Ian K.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Smith Say, hey, y'all, I'm welcome family. What's going on
with you? Man?

Speaker 3 (01:06):
Man? Trying to make it? You know, I turned fifty
five last year, so you know I'm writing the thicke
of this this book, and I just said to myself.
I saw so many people who are getting older and
they're having high blood pressure and diabetes, not being able
to walk right bent over, they were just depurating. And
what I realized when I was doing my research was that,

(01:27):
you know, starting in your thirties, every decade your body changed,
not just physically but also physiologically. And what I mean
by that is that the foods that you could eat
in your thirties and the way you move in your
thirties is not exactly what you can do in your
fifties and sixties. And so I wanted to write a
book that taught everybody, starting in your thirties, what are

(01:49):
your top power nutrients for your decade, what are the
best exercises, what medical tests do you need, what medical
conditions should you know? And then at the end of
each decade, I create a thirty day customized meal plan
that will incorporate all those power nutrients that you need
for your decade of life.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
Well that's interesting, man, because you know you often hear
the anti you are what you eat. And this book
got me to thinking because a doctor told me, he said, listen,
what you eat in your forties, we will diagnose for
you in your fifties. Whatever we diagnose for you in
your fifties, we will treat you for in your sixties.

(02:29):
And whatever we're treating you for in your sixties is
what we will bury you for in your seventies. So
once I heard that, I went damn. And you know it,
Eating correctly is the key. So let me ask you something, man,
before we get because I do a lot of medical tests.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Let's talk about this for a minute.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
That's some specific medical tests you should get based on
your age range.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
How you feel about that.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
Here's the problem, particularly for rapid Americans, is that the
reason why when we get diseases, we have such poor
outcomes is because we catch them too late in the game.
And the medical tests are life savers because the medical
test doesn't stop you from it necessarily getting the disease,
but if you can catch it early, like cropstate cancer,

(03:25):
breast cancer, hot blood pressure. Tens of millions of after
Americas are walking around with diabetes or pre diabetes and
don't even know it. And so the problem for us
in particular is that we wait too late, and so
we start treatments. But by the time we start treatment,
you know, we're kind of down the road a bit,
and it's tough to get a cure or tough demand

(03:46):
the disease.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
Yeah, so this book has I'm assuming in this book
you have a list of medical tests that a person
should have done at certain ages.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
Absolutely. So chapter nine are your top medical tests? So
for thirties, forties, fifties, sixties plus. I tell you what
are the tests that you need to take, and then
what the numbers you should know. So, for example, if
you need to take a blood glucose level test, I
tell you what's normal what's not normal Because a lot
of people see you, by the way, when they take
these tests, they get these numbers back and they don't

(04:19):
really understand it, and the doctors don't spend as much
time as they used to trying to explain to people
this is what it means. So in the book, chapter nine,
I talk about what your tests means. I talk about
what the numbers are, and then I talk about what
you can do to try to make a difference without medication.
Sometimes you need medications, but we try to get people

(04:40):
to make changes in their lifestyles. They don't need all
these medications.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
Yeah, let me ask you a question.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
Is blood work a key test because I get, in
mind done about four terms a year. What I mean
by that is I go somewhere and I don't know
what to talk to the bottomless flipp yep yeah yeah,
and the lady they take your blood, They put it
in some tubes and they send it off to a lab,

(05:06):
and the lab sends you a lab report analyzing your blood.
I think that's been the most helpful test to me. Well,
what do you say to that?

Speaker 3 (05:16):
Because of that, you can do everything. You can look
at your kidneys, you can look at your blood counts,
you can look at your liver functions. I mean that's
the start, and a lot of people aren't even look
at your thyroid levels. And that's the start. And that's
why indeed your age. Even though I'm talking about what
food is the best for you, I'm talking about what

(05:36):
exercises are best for you and how to do it
safe with with QR codes in the book so you
can see the videos of the exercises. Even though all
that's happening, what I also want you to know is
that taking a simple blood test can give you an
indication of where you are, and then if you need treatment,
you can start it early. But yes, a simple blood test,

(05:56):
and a lot of us are not getting these blood tests,
and that's why we're dying here in our lifespan shorter.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
Hey, man, I actually started a health group with some
buddies of mine that I went to college with.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
Some of these casts in bad shape. We all the
same age, and.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
A bunch of them had never had their blood work
done before, and they were sixty And I was going like, yo, man,
and by the and you are absolutely correct, We're gonna
take a break and come back. But once they got
their blood work done, we found out, man, that was
some serious problems.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Going on that we had to address. Hey, when we
come back, we're gonna be talking more with doctor Ian K. Smith.
He's our buddy. He's got a new book out.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
Y'all call each your age, Feel younger, be happier, live
longer the keyword, live longer.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
We'll be right back.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
All right, everybody, we're back in. Our special guest this
morning is doctor Ian K.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
Smith.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
He's got a new book out. It's called Each Your Age,
Feel Younger, Be Happy, to Live Longer. It's a guidebook
that kind of takes walks us through our lives decade
by decade. And then we're talking about eating and tests
that you should have so doctee. Before we left, we
were talking about blood work. Explain to people what blood
work is.

Speaker 3 (07:39):
So how your body is feeling or what is happening
inside of your body can typically be reflected in your
blood and your blood cells. What are your enzymes look
like for your liver, are your kidneys working? Do you
have high sugar? Are your cholesterol levels bad? All these things,
by the way, you can see through simple blood work analysis.

(08:02):
The problem is that we're not getting the blood work,
or if we are getting the blood work, then we
are not understanding the results and not knowing what to do.
And in the book, I try to explain to people,
if you have high blood pressure, which a lot of
us have, if you have diabetes a lot of us have,
there are things you can do at your kitchen table,

(08:24):
or exercises that you can do, simple exercises, not complicated,
that can actually help you. But we don't have this
knowledge and we don't have access to it, and I'm
hoping with eager age can give people this knowledge.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
Let's say a person has high blood pressure, give me
a small sample of some dietary changes.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
They could make.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
Absolutely, so, if someone has high blood pressure, the first
thing you want to say to them is are you
having enough magnesium? Okay, magnesium is really important for blood pressure.
Then you say to people, okay, well, if it's magnesium,
where can I get it from? And I list not
only what the nutrients are, but then the sources. So
for example, almonds, baked potatoes, bananas, beef, black beans, broccoli,

(09:08):
brown rice, cashews, all these things have begnesium. So someone
with high blood pressure, I would say, let's look at magnesium.
The second thing I would say to them is if
you are high in salt, let's look at some low
salt things foods. I teach people in the book, how
do you take a package of food labeled and look
at it and understand what's in there and then make

(09:29):
a good decision. If you said you had diabetes, high cholesterol,
I would say you got to eat more fiber, apples,
black beans, brand chick beas, chia seeds, peanuts, raspberry, seaweed,
all this stuff. And so I really made a comprehensive
kind of dive into this is the illness, this is
the nutrient you need, and this is where you get

(09:51):
the nutrient and how much you need of it.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
Wow, listen, the book is called Eat Your Age. It's
online wherever books are sold. Y'all, let's start working on
this man.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
Now.

Speaker 1 (10:03):
Things we can do to stick around here a lot longer,
and stick around here a lot healthier and just have
a better quality of life. And I think this book
can help us all. The name of the book again,
everybody is Each Your Age by doctor Ian K.

Speaker 2 (10:17):
Smith.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
