Netflix has announced the release of Being Eddie next month,
a documentary about comedy legend Eddie Murphy's fifty year career.
We all just love Eddie Murphy. I mean, as you
so much joy and so much laughter. So, Steve, you're
also celebrating your fortieth anniversary of your comedy career this year.

So here's a question for you.

Time with me wasn't It ain't been as big as Eddie, but.

Tommy and Jr. What has changed about the comedy comedy
industry since you first got in the game. I'm sure
a lot, right.

What you can say, the topics you get that you
sometimes you just can't. You're scared to touch, Yeah, because
when you don't cross that line, because you can get canceled. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
The change is on comedians now that weren't on it before.
The freedom of speech is gone, you know. Yeah, you
can't have an opposing view of anybody on the left
or the right.

That's what's crazy.

Yeah, But has the game.

Say something about somebody on the extreme left and see
what happened, But.

Say something about somebody on the extreme right.

In addition to the politics. You know, that's obvious with
the cancel culture. What about the industry that has changed?
I mean when you guys were coming up, you guys
had your heroes and your your icons and the comedians
you looked up to prior, you know, Red Fox, the
big Ones. So now what has changed in the game. Like,
if you're a comedian that's listening and trying to get

into the industry, I.

Said, I had I had mentors.

You know, you had you had a comedy mentor who
taught you the right way to do do the business,
to do the business.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
I don't know what you're saying is you're you were funny,
but you needed some guidance and some director.

Speaker 5 (02:06):
You have to know how to how to do the business.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
You had to have somebody to teach you.

Speaker 5 (02:10):
This is what you do on the road. This is
how you go out doing doing everything on the road.
This is what you have to do. And then you
take this and you cly this and this is how
you build your set. You build your set like this,
and this is how you be professed. All those things
will talk to us. Tell me had we had mentors?

Okay, what about you see a mentor?

Oh yeah, man, of course. I mean Anthony Brown taught
me the most Bill carsby setting me down and school
me as to what was going on. You know, I
was sitting there. I was in the room with Richard

Chris Rock got launched through his comedy specials. Blacker than Black,

Bigger than Black, whatever it was, and you know, stuff
like that. But we all had different routes. But you know,
now it's a different game now. Ah, these guys are
getting famous on Instagram. If you look at this kid, Marco,
if you look at I look at this kid that
was doing all of them all okay scenarios. Is he

a full time comedian now, But when you look at
him online, he's brilliant with the is that it? Yeah,
he's absolutely brilliant bunny audience, and I've seen him do
some funny stuff with that audience.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
But to sell out an arena arena.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
To sell three thousand tickets, you can't just be brilliant
with the audience.

I love to see his set now.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
Country Wayne became famous off the internet too, and then
I saw his.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
Special and I actually liked it.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
I thought Country Wayne had did that thing to be
somebody that came off the internet. But it's very hard
to come off the internet with skits to become a comedian.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
That's two different worlds. Now.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
Comedic acting and stand up is two different worlds, and
a lot of them have found that out.
