Speaker 1 (00:02):
Not everybody has promised. Our special guest this morning is
this was personal to me. This young brother attended to
Steven Marjorie Harvey Minnering Camp in twoenty eleven, that's thirteen
years ago. He also came to the Disney Dreamers Academy

(00:22):
the next year.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
He has claimed that, well, I'm his minnor.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
Back then and to this present day, this young brother
right here, when I tell you, has excelled. He is
a moor House graduate. He is a Rutgers graduate. Currently,
he is a pastor, a licensed therapist, and an author.
He's here to tell us about his full circle moment
and how minnering really works. Please welcome to the show.

(00:49):
For the first time. His name is Nicholas Young. We
call him this is Nick Young.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
Everybody, good morning, We're gon welcome. Well, good more than everybody.
How are y'all doing?

Speaker 2 (01:05):
How you doing? Man?

Speaker 3 (01:07):
Bless blessed, blessed, truly, truly honored and grateful to be
on the show. And I always I am happy to
tell people that that I would not be where I
am in any way. I would not be on my
two feeds. I would not be I don't even feel
like i'd be a high school graduate, let alone three degrees,

(01:28):
if it had not been for what the Steve Harvey
Mentoring the Stephen Margaret Harvey Foundation Mentoring program did for
me in my life. You all literally changed my life.
And now I'm able to pour into people every day.
And it's only because you are poured into me.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
And that's that is really what it's all about. It's
not about me getting credit. It's about the results. It's
about the It's about the rewards of it, not the awards.
This brother is one of the rewards of minering man,
which makes it so Also, I need to mention he
is a proud, proud member the greatest fraternity on planet.

(02:12):
That's them one and only. Oh Maker, fight FIGHTQ So
got that out the way, just keeping pastoral adult, don't
worry about that. I know I've seen you well he
I have seen him set out of hot before they young.

(02:32):
You know, the hot has changed since I was stepping.
These brothers got a whole nother hot.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
I had to go to dance class and take it up.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
Now, Hey, man, Nick, listen, you got a master's degree
in divinity and you're licensed Master social worker.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
What's the motivation factor that kept you going.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
Uh, so that the motivation factor is a thank you
fostor what God has done for my life, what you
all have done for me. I know there's a scripture
where Jesus hills a group of levers and one of
them just made up in his mind that he had
to come back. I feel every time that I get

(03:17):
the opportunity to pour into a young child, or pour
into a couple or family, anybody who's in front of me,
I feel like it's just me saying thank you to
the God who blessed me and the guy who used
other people to pour into me.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
Nick, how were you when you came to the.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
Camp thirteen between thirteen fourteen years old?

Speaker 1 (03:36):
I mean, this cat fought through some things, y'all. When
I tell you he fought through some things. It is
what perseverance is all about. This young brother I'm talking about,
they tried to take him out, when I tell you,
they really that was a real plan to take him out.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
But we gathered ourselves, we rallied around him.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
We gave him all a lot of support, love and
encouragement and especially prayer, and his brother got through.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
I mean, he got through some tough times.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
Man. So congratulations man, Before we talk about this book
you got, let's talk about this full circle moment. You
were at the camp as a thirteen year old. I'm
assuming you what to How are you now? Nick, I'm
twenty eight, twenty eight years old this year, from being
a camp mentee to now he's speaking at the mentoring

(04:29):
camp this year. Tell us how you felt when you
got the call. What is this full circle moment.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
Like for you? It's a tear jerker. When I went
to the camp, I did not want to. I was
dealing with bullying at the time, and I did not
want to complete high school. My mom was having the
hardest time in the world, and me and my sister
talked before I got on the plane, and she said,
just go down there and do well. And she said,

(04:57):
and God's going to do something for you. And my
entire life changed because of the camp and all that
you are poor and all that you all did. And
so now when I got the call, it's like, no way,
there's no way I'm going to get to go back

(05:19):
and pour into and pouring through mom and sons who
are just like my mom and me. Word years ago,
it's humbling. I can't the words fail to express the
level of emotion I feel and being invited back to

(05:40):
the place that changed my entire life.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
You know, man, it's crazy because let me tell y'allself,
this is one example. The guy that runs my camp
now along with my son. His name is Torrin. He
runs my camp. He sets up the program for he
it was a camp. He was a mentee at the
camp at thirteen years old. The other guy that comes

(06:05):
down and helps out every year and mentor the boys,
his name is Kendall. He was he's an engineer now.
He came to the He came as a gang bank.
He's an engineer now. Wow, yeah, man, we got the
We got a brother that's a young pilot that I
sit to pilot school because his dream was become a pilot.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
He's an airline pilot.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
Now. I got a kid down here that's on the
Pro Bass Fisherman Tour. He hurt my feelings because I
wanted to That's what I wanted to be. Hey, y'all,
we're gonna come right back with more with Nick Young
right after this, one of the mentees from the Steven
Marge Harvey Foundation, who has come full circle to be
speaking this year.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
We'll be right back morning show.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
All right, everybody, we're back and our special guests this morning.
His brother, Nick Young, who is having a full circle moment.
He's coming back to the camp as a speaker. Now,
this is what makes this incredible. Was thirteen, fourteen years old.
He was a mentee at the camp. He is now
a licensed therapist, he is a minister, he is an author.

(07:09):
He's a young man. I watched him go to college,
went to more House, he went to Rutgers. We were
part of all of that. I watched him struggle. I
watched him try to take him down. I watched through
prayer and just men rallying around one another.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
Man.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
When you got a circle of men, strong men who's
been there, done that, then seen it before, can put
your mind at ease and help you through it. That's
what mentoring does. His name is Nick Young. Everybody, Nick,
we're in here talking about the program. But I said,
you're an author. You got a book that teaches children
about the power of therapy. Tell us a little bit

(07:47):
about the book.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
Yes, sir, mister Harvey, I had the God give vision
to plant a seed very early on, and I learned
this in many ways from from the programs with the
Mentor Foundation that when you teach a child a way
to go, it doesn't it doesn't leave them. Like I know,

(08:10):
when I was at the camp, you all told me,
like when you're on the date, make sure you walk
on the outside and open doors. And I find myself
still doing those things. And so using that logic, I
was thinking that when you teach kids very early on
the importance of taking care of their mental health, how
to regulate their emotions, how to deal with relationships through

(08:31):
mental health practitioners and therapists, that when they get older,
they will grow into adults who know how to take
care of their mental health, how to remain saye, and
how to help other people take care of their mental health.
And so I wrote a book called Carry the Caring Koala,
A Child's Guide to Therapy. It's available on Amazon, and
the book has been really helpful, has a workbook page,

(08:53):
and it just really teaches kids how to manage their
emotions and relationships.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
Now you say, what's the name of the book? Carry
the carry Okay, carry the Carrying Koala. That's a tongue twist.
The young find that book.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
I just got a ko la.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
The two things that we teach at the mentory in camp.
The two main focuses is dream building and manhood. I
don't discuss your education with you. I don't discuss your
you know your educational background, where you hope to go.
If you go to school, fine, But I want to
know what your dreams are. And we start with dream boards,

(09:34):
and I teach young men how to dream. I get
their mind out of their neighborhoods and the hoods and
put them somewhere else. And then I teach them what
real men do. Real men go to church, real men
go to work. Real men honor God, Real men obey
the law. Real men take care of their children. Real
men honor women. Real men go to work every day.
That's what manhood is. It ain't in a video, it

(09:55):
ain't in a in a chain, it ain't on a
set of rems. We teach those two things, and those
two things work. Our special guest this morning, Nick Young,
appreciate your man. I'll see you in a couple of days.
What day you speaking?

Speaker 3 (10:09):
Man? On Sunday? Sir?

Speaker 2 (10:12):
Oh you're doing? Oh you're doing the closes all.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
Excuse me, get my whole ass.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
I have to wait closing remark.

Speaker 1 (10:26):
Know what.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
You go there, you go, wait to go.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
Hey, y'all, Nick Young, everybody, We'll be black with more
