Adriana a Yalla. How you doing, Adrianna?
Speaker 3 (01:09):
Pretty good? Thank you for having me on.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
First of all, lets get a little background. Are you
have you ever been an event planner?
Speaker 4 (01:16):
No?
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Never, Okay, So that means you walked into a world
you have not experienced.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
What are you doing prior to becoming an entrepreneur in
the event planning space?
Speaker 3 (01:28):
So I was working for well, I'm still working for
a corporation in financial services.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
So you know about numbers, you know about budgets, you
know about the bottom line, and you're doing it, I
believe smartly. You still got your full time job and
you're building another company on the side. And I recommend
that to people all the time. Don't walk away, just
jump out there on faith and you have really properly
ironed out all the details.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
Now, how long have you been doing this? Miss A Yalla?
Speaker 3 (01:59):
The financial service for ten years?
Speaker 1 (02:01):
For ten years? And then when did the idea of balloons?
Speaker 2 (02:08):
Was that a skill you always had or is something
you picked up along the way over these last ten years.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
It's definitely not a skill I had at all. I
learned it and I became a mother in twenty eighteen.
And then when my son came of age, you know,
like in the one one and a half year old,
I was like, I want to have a kids party.
I want to make something nice but I didn't want
to do the traditional like helium balloons and you set
them on the tables or the chairs or whatnot. I
(02:35):
want to do something different. So I just literally went
on Pinterest to like look up some ideas, and this
whole idea trend with organic baoons without helium was out.
So I was like, let me just try this.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Okay, we'll all on Nana. Now explain you said organic balloons.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
Yeah, so the organic balloons basically means that you are
bunching a bunch of balloons filled with high air or
air in general, and then making a design, some type
of design to go on a wall.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Okay, Like I'm just tell you my experience with balloon designs.
You know, be walking through a park, a guy with
a clown come up to you, start twisting things, and
next thing you've got an elephant?
Speaker 1 (03:16):
Is that what you're talking about?
Speaker 3 (03:17):
No, that's a twister. That's a balloon twister.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
Okay, education, one on one, that's a balloon twister.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
What are you?
Speaker 3 (03:27):
I'm an artist, a balloon decore artist. So when you
think of the core, you're setting a stage or a
central centerpiece or central focal point for a party or
an event.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
Okay, let me get this early out the way. You
have a website, right, yes, sir? Okay cool as we
as we're doing this interview, if you're listening, what is
your website?
Speaker 3 (03:49):
Ayala balloon Events dot Com.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
Okay, go to that spell your name because I'm pretty
sure they don't know how to spell that first name.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
Ayala A y A l A balloon with two else
events with a s.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
Okay cool Ayala Balloons events dot Com right correct, Okay,
go there and we can continue this conversation because I
want you to see exactly what you're talking about.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
Now.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
With that being said, be as descriptive as you can
and describing what you do.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
So when you contact me and you want a design
your typically my clients already know an idea or have
some type of inspiration, so I basically take that inspiration
that client has and recreate it in my own artistic
way for their party or corporate event. You're bunging a
(04:37):
bunch of balloons and with air and making what we
call a cluster to kind of accentuate your focal point
or centerpiece at your event, or.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
If they're getting married, they can have balloons over an
archway that they walk through. Correct, Yes, on did you
realize this was a talent that you can use to
make money off of?
Speaker 1 (04:59):
A y'alla.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
After a couple of friends and film members asked me
to do it for them. And then I actually have
a friend that she does the same thing for her
friends and families, and our sons were best friends. And
we're seeing that, you know, people actually do this and
get paid for it. People were hiring people to put balloons,
and we were doing this basically for free for our
(05:21):
friends and family as hobbies. And we're like, we can
get paid for this, okay, So we end up taking
a class.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
Now it's it's a rare skill set though it's a
real scare. It's a rare skill set and you took
a class. There's a class out there for this.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
There's a lot of classes.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
Yes, talk to us about the class.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
So the class, the class that we took was basically
fundamentals because there's there's different ways to make these organic garlands.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
Was speaking to Adriana ayala Is her company inspired by
her children, three children's and high quality balloon the Core
and modern bounce house rentals for weddings, birthdays, in corporate events,
in Georgia. Now I'm talking about balloon the core, but
you also included modern bounce house rentals, so you're coming
(06:16):
in you move beyond just balloons. You're becoming a one
stop shop, correct.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Yes, I am, I am. So the balance houses. When
you think of a balance house, you usually think of
it for kids, but the modern ones it's all white,
so it's very classy. If there's a bridal shower, bachulette
party or photos for a wedding, oh you know, your
your groomsmen or bridesmaids. You jump in there and then
(06:43):
the photographer takes a picture in that jump house, just
having fun.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
What were the early stages of getting out out there
and establishing this business.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
You got to make sure you get your insurance, that's
for sure. At the end of the day, this is
a business. It's customer service. You have to do what
you can to make the customer happy, and you got
to prepare yourself for any things they unexpected things to happen,
So you want to picture you're ensured for sure.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
What were your thoughts when you started a business, where
they any moments of frustration or disappointment that made you
even think of turning back the clock and say I'm
as stick with just making my kids happy whenever they
want to see blows.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
Yeah, there's been a moment, a lot of moments, and
it's it's it's fear. It's honestly, fear of not being
great enough for your client. Your clients have expectations of
what they see on a picture and they want you
to mimic it exactly, and that's just not the reality.
The person that made the picture is and they've made
(07:44):
that with their design and artistic abilities, and I'm just
I'm doing my artistic abilities.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
So basically, a y'alla, what you were saying is that
people want you to replicate.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
Work that's not yours exactly, and.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
That can become a stumbling block because you don't know
how they did the job, or it can be because
some people can do things that are complicated and have
the equipment to do it. Because I'm assuming that all
balloons aren't the same sides.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
When you start doing these works of.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
Arts, they're not exactly. So I'm definitely not in the
business to be replicating anyone else's art. That's their art,
that's their signature technique. I want people to know me
as I la balloon events and the way I do
my technique can create.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
A confident person. I'm talking here, you know. Now, let's
talk about getting your brain out there. Now.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
What inspired you to focus specifically on gender revealed events.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
I mean, I've always grown up wanting kids. I've always
wanted five kids. As we established, I have three right
now we kind of pause on the five. But I
mean just being a mother, like being able to hold
the child world and to become pregnant is a special gift,
(09:04):
and being able to be part of someone's happiness and
bringing joy. To know what the sex is, you know,
fills my heart because I know how it is, how
difficult it can be to become pregnant and then once
you are, you know, to carry for nine months. I
really do believe in creating core memories, and I feel
(09:26):
like what I provide is a core memory for families
that decide to do your gender reveal, and it brings
me happiness, and I know it brings my clients happy.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
So what are some of your most popular signature balloons
setups for gender reveals?
Speaker 3 (09:38):
So, my most popular is a simple backdrop with it's
like a half moon arch with balloons on the side.
Of it and like a little cluster at the bottom
of it, and we'll say, oh, baby or baby Patel
if that baby in their last name. And then I
have a little prop that was like a little detonator,
(09:59):
so when the fire works go off, you know, they
count down from ten or three, three, two one, and
they push it down and they know the gender of
their child.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
Boy. What if I have an idea of what I want?
How does that work? Oh?
Speaker 3 (10:13):
I definitely encourage that. I definitely take what we call
inspiration pictures, So do say I want this, but add
a little bit of this, a little bit of that,
so it's not exactly the picture, and I'm like, oh, yes,
I can definitely do that for them. A lot of
people now want to create something unique, which I really
appreciate because I am unique.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
Oh good, you haven't. We're not through yet. But does
Ayala balloons? She's very unique.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
Don't bring her photos she've seen You've seen in the magazine.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
With that being said, because you're talking about are there
safety concerns?
Speaker 2 (10:49):
Definitely, because you mentioned insurance earlier, which I recommend everybody
who starts a business should have insurance because if you're
doing work, I'm going to ask you for your certificate
of insurance immediately, and if you don't have it, then
I can't do business with you because you technically are
doing business for yourself and you don't have any concern.
Speaker 1 (11:09):
For the safety of who you're doing business with.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
With that being with that in mind, you've already mentioned insurance,
so you have that in mind. What about the safety
aspect of it, because you did mention the balloon house.
Speaker 3 (11:21):
Yeah, so that is my main point, the balloon balance houses.
Accidents can happen, so you want to make sure that
your clients protected and obviously I want to protect my
business as well, but I have my clients in mind
in that aspect as well. With the gender reveals, you know,
at the end of the day, those fireworks that are
used are actual fireworks, so you have to detonate them.
(11:44):
So you have to ignite it with fire and you
always want to make sure that your clients they're usually
sitting in front of the backdrop with their detonator, so
you have to make sure there's a good range between
the file out zone of the fireworks going off and
that they just make sure that there's not a chance
of it affecting the couple and then their observers that
(12:06):
are seeing the smoke come.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
Out a complicated You gotta shield, you got distance and
all that good stuff. So basically what you're telling us
on certain situations with your agenda revealed, especially when you
get into the firework, it has to be an open.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
Space, Yes, it does. We got to be clear of trees,
you got to be clear of people. It makes me
stay clear of that.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
How do you market yourself? Are y'all? How do you
get the word out about your brain?
Speaker 3 (12:35):
I'm mostly on social media on Instagram. I love Instagram,
and I post a lot of videos and stories and
content of the balloon sets that I do do.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
Now, what are your reactions on social media? Because first
of all, it can't be free. It can relate to everybody.
You know, I'll consider myself a marketing guru. I would
think that you do balloons, you do artwork, do setups?
How do you What message are you given to your
audience or followers or prospective followers that you want to
(13:09):
talk about your brand? Why would they want to come
to you? I guess is what I'm trying to get
out of this conversation.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
When it comes to your posts.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
Well, I feel a lot of people would want to
go with me because I have a family and I
know what it's like to be a mother, and me
in particular, I'm very neitpicky and precise, so I want
everything to be perfect.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
Well, that been said, pain points and setups, you know,
let's walk through the whole process of you know, you
have a bounce house or a big balloon house, you
have our gender reveal setup or corporate events, because each
one of them has their own pain points. Okay, let's
start with your corporate events. What are some of the
(13:59):
pain points in corporate events?
Speaker 3 (14:01):
Time? Just having the time necessary allotted to provide what
they want a lot of times when I'm preparing for
a corporate event, I have to preinflate my balloons in
order to make maybe an hour or two hour crunch
time to be able to set up. So time is
always an issue with corporate events. In and out, in
and out.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
Oh good, So what is the paid point for gender reveal?
Which is your specialty?
Speaker 3 (14:28):
The pain point for gender reveal is making sure that
gender is correct.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
Come on now, come on now laughing because obviously they
have been some mistakes.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
No, I'm gonna be honest, the getting the color hasn't
been a mistake, but it's always just like in the
back of my head, like what if I got it wrong?
They did textus like in big black letters, boy or
girl whatever. I'm like, but in my mind, I'm like
having nightmares, like did I get this ready?
Speaker 4 (14:55):
I'm right sure, Please don't go any We'll be right
back with more Money Making Conversations Masterclass. Welcome back to
the Money Making Conversations master Class, hosted by Rashaan McDonald.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
Know some I believe that I would be kind of
paranoi until that color comes out and then they celebrate
because you know that's a big moment and you don't
want the girl colors will pop up and they got
a board. That's ultimate disaster because there's different emotions that
people are gonna give when they see the colors exactly.
Speaker 3 (15:39):
Yeah. Another pain point with that is also I'm very
conscious of what I wear for ginger reveals. I don't
wear blue or peak, very general neutral clothes, white T shirt.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
Oh yeah, because they think you have a clue.
Speaker 3 (15:56):
Well, they know I have a clue, so they're like,
is she trying to give me a head or yeah,
I make sure.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
Well, first of all, it sounds like your business is fun,
but it also sounds like this business can be nerve
racking because you are delivering an experience and you don't
know how they feel about the experience until after the
experience has been produced. Now, with that being said, how
could you deal with that level of tension or stress?
Speaker 3 (16:28):
It's adrenalin. So I think that's the reason why I
like it so much. Just okay, are you sure? I mean,
I do make sure with my clients as I'm decorating,
I make sure the position right when I set it
up if it's okay after I finish the balloons. Do
you like this? Are you sure? I get a lot
of confirmation from my clients and then I do. I mean,
(16:50):
for my business, it's really appreciated that I get their
testimonials and reviews, so I do follow up with them.
But to me, it's pretty easy to see to see
without them telling me how content they are, So it's
like an instant gratification. You know. Obviously, if they don't
like it, I would stink, but I would immediately know
(17:13):
if they didn't like it. Oh.
Speaker 1 (17:14):
Absolutely.
Speaker 2 (17:15):
I'm speaking to Audriana Ayala. She started a business with
three children. She wants five, but she's there three right now,
children in mind. At Ayala Balloon, they specialize in high
quality balloon decor and modern bounce house rentals for weddings, birthdays,
and corporate events in Georgia.
Speaker 1 (17:34):
Now, last minute changes.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
Last minute changes, I dealt with them. I live for it.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
Let's let's let's back up. Let's back up a little
bit on that.
Speaker 2 (17:45):
A yalla, okay, Let's go through the process of somebody
contacting you for a balloon event. Only I don't want
to get to the bull to the bouncy balloons, the
balloon houses and stuff like that. They're contacting you, so
you have to have a certain just stipulations along the way.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
Right.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
Well, you know, they give you the deposit, you buy
the balloons and the delivery. Right in the delivery stage,
they want to last minute change.
Speaker 1 (18:12):
How does that work?
Speaker 3 (18:15):
Honestly, they would be charged an extra fee for a
change in service. And honestly, it really depends what it is.
If I'm already at the location and asked me for
a change, and maybe I had to leave and go
back out and get something, there's gonna be an extra
charge for it. But I think I do pretty well
with accommodating with changes. They're pretty minor and I usually
have all the material that I need to be able
(18:36):
to accommodate a change like that for my clients. But
there would be an extra fee to accommodate it.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
Well, let me ask you this. I don't know how
this works. You know, I didn't do a gender revealed.
My wife told me. I think it was doing an
exam that we were like, we discovered that there was
a boy or girl. That's how was notified. Who contact
you or gender reveals?
Speaker 3 (19:02):
Usually the parents. A parent that's like it's their first
to be grandchild, so a mom or some I've been
getting a lot of dad's calling to they want to
surprise their significant other, like let's do this gender reveal.
But they arranged for like the sister or the mom
to inform me of the gender. So they want to say.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
They want know.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
Now, you say, you're in finance, been there ten years,
How do you price this out? I'm not trying you
give me pecific numbers, but how you know? Like Rich,
I'm gonna tell you this. Like when I when I
hire people, I go online, I look at the different
job requirements and things like that, and given sense, I
talk to my HR person, get a salary structure and
(19:48):
all that stuff. I get different descriptions, and I go, Okay,
this is what this job is paying at this level
of experience versus this level experience versus this level experience.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
That's how I kind.
Speaker 2 (19:59):
Of get They're my information, but I'm also gathering it
from somebody who's as experienced in HR. How does a
person who's going into the business, because your price point matters,
it matters, and your time matters, and you've got a
full time job, okay, and you.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
Got three kids, set your price point. Tell us how
you do it.
Speaker 3 (20:20):
So I calculate my overhead, So the cost of materials
that I'm using or you know, gap utilities, the band
that I use to transport the the backdrops and balloons,
and the actual cost of the balloons and the machine
that I use to bluey. I have a high grade
(20:41):
machine that helps me, you know, crank them out really quickly.
That overhead plus obviously, like you said, the time that
it takes me to actually create the design, and then
I actually have to hire out a lot of the
times for these hinder reveals because you need that safety
that you need that protection. So I needed a second
(21:01):
person to be that that second eye so if something
were to happen, they could douse it out the TNT
so I price it out with that extra team member.
If it's a really big gender reveal, I hire out
the marquee rentals or big backdrops so I can be
able to facilitate in the time that I'm given to
(21:23):
be able to create the backshop presentation for my clients.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
First of all, you're passionate about this. People were listening
to this show. Why should they contact you a Yalla
Events Balloon Events.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
Because I'm creating core memories for every event in your life,
and I believe your life journey doesn't go in order.
Sometimes we're having kids before we're married, we're getting we're
having kids before we get our successful career, and I'm
there for every type of those moments, whether it goes
in the way you planned or not. I think that's
(21:59):
the reason why people should reach out to me, because
I understand life doesn't always go into order, and we
want to be able to create these core memories in
our lives to remember.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
So one of three years, Okay, what are you going
to be with Ayala balloons.
Speaker 3 (22:13):
So I Yalla balloons is actually growing like really fast
and with it being us starting to niche and the
gender reveals. Gender reveals have started in Miami. It's very common.
They're like, you know, like the pus. I don't know
if you know about push gifts when you're pregnant. The
dad's supposed to give a push gift to their wife.
That's not a common thing. George is just now getting
(22:35):
into this idea of gender reveals. Everyone's really excited about it.
One of three years is going to be a common thing.
Everyone's going to want it, and it's just going to
expand in different unique ideas of not just the typical
blue and pink balloons with a simple backtop. It's going
to expand to even greater things. And I'm going to
be at the head of it. I'm sure.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
Well, I'd love the fact that I'm just gonna bring
up now, you said your friend, you have a friend
that does this, right, Do you guys do joint events
or y'all just competitors?
Speaker 3 (23:06):
Oh no, we're not competitors out at Oh yes, we
will definitely help each other out if I need her
or she needs me. We've done it.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
Yeah, Okay, I'm not I'm asking just curiosity. How long
has she been doing it versus you?
Speaker 1 (23:18):
Start, we've been doing it the.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
Same amount of time because we took the class together.
Speaker 1 (23:22):
Okay, okay, And so when you.
Speaker 3 (23:25):
Three years, three years, three.
Speaker 2 (23:27):
Years, does she have the same ambition you have or
you a little bit more aggressive in what you want
to do? Because I see a passion tied to your enthusiasm.
Speaker 3 (23:36):
I believe I'm I'm a little bit more ambitious than
my friend she's. And she's kind of staying in the
lane of you know, the traditional baby showers and birthday party.
The course, she hasn't really nied like gender reveals.
Speaker 1 (23:52):
Oh okay, I say what you're saying.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
You're saying, okay, Risha, gender reveals, As we asked earlier,
that's your brain.
Speaker 1 (23:58):
That's what you're trying to get it.
Speaker 2 (24:00):
You're not trying to go over here and do a
birthday party or you can.
Speaker 3 (24:05):
I'm not gonna take that away. I can definitely do it.
I will do it. I enjoy doing it. But there's
a place in my heart for the gender help.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
Well, I'm gonna just tell you if that's what you doing,
let's do it. You know, like Chick fil A. Chick
fil A, they don't do burgers. They do chicken burgers. Okay,
this is what they do. Now, you know, you see
these other burger places. They trying to do chicken. Okay,
but you don't really think they can do chicken because
I think what they started out doing. My advice to
(24:36):
you is that ride this gender reveal. You become the
queen of gender reveals, you the best at it.
Speaker 1 (24:43):
And like I said, I think that a lot.
Speaker 2 (24:45):
Of people get nervous when they start, you know, saying, okay,
I might turn down money. No, you've already told me Rashan,
I do not accept people sending me photos and saying
replicate this.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
So you already got standards.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
I think if you ride your standards and you specifically
say this is what I do, and I do it
better than anybody else, then people will respect that and
come to you because you've already told everybody else who
I don't just go out there and do all this
other stuff and pool parties and all this stuff. I
am the best at gender reveals. What do you want?
(25:22):
Then you price it out accordingly and you win. If anything,
we come away from the interview is that I would
say you are the best at what you do.
Speaker 1 (25:31):
That's gender reveals. Come to me. I'll make the best
balloon arrangements.
Speaker 2 (25:36):
I'll give you the best experience whatever, whether it's going
to be a surprise or special effects.
Speaker 1 (25:42):
That's what a y'alla balloon does for you.
Speaker 3 (25:45):
Yep, that's exactly right.
Speaker 1 (25:47):
I see, Well, this interview is over. You know what
you're gonna do. Give out your website one more time
before we wrap this up.
Speaker 3 (25:55):
Are y'alla balloon events dot com.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
Could we spell it are y'alla ya a y a.
Speaker 3 (26:01):
L a balloon with two l's events p s.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
Thank you, thank you, thank you for coming on the show.
And it's really really you have a amazing personality. And
if I had to give any advice, and that's what
the show is about. It's about mentorship, money making, conversation
about advice. A lot of people come on the show.
Just specialize and make sure that you and everybody understands
gender reveals, which was the very first question that I
(26:26):
had to ask you. You focus specifically on gender revealed events.
That's what you should do and that's and that's what
you need to put out to everybody.
Speaker 1 (26:35):
And guess what, they will come okay, and they might
even fly you down to Miami, I hope.
Speaker 2 (26:41):
So if they know that's what you do, I know
that I watch TV shows and I go and because
guess what, it costs a little bit more. But if
that's the best of what you do, you can be
flown to Chicago, you can be flown to DC. I
think what you should also say is that you will travel.
I think you should put that as on your on
your website as well, because they know that they have
(27:02):
to pay for certain fees in order for that to happen.
Speaker 1 (27:06):
So I.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
Really after hearing this interview, I know you used the
word located in Georgia, that's just your headquarters. I believe
that you should be able to travel anywhere in this
country to give a gender reveal experience, and that's how
you should promote yourself.
Speaker 3 (27:24):
Yes, I'm going to add that for sure.
Speaker 1 (27:26):
Okay. Thank you for coming on Money Making Conversation Masterclass.
Speaker 3 (27:29):
