Andre says I've been with my girlfriend for two years
and we're talking seriously about marriage, but she wants me
to adopt her sixteen year old son. The thing is,
her son barely likes me. We get along fine on

the surface, but there's no real connection. I don't know
why she wants this, and I'm like ninety nine percent
sure he doesn't. I love her deeply, but I don't
know if I can take on the title of dad
or someone who clearly doesn't see me that way. Is
this a deal breaker?

Speaker 2 (03:06):
Well, I don't know if it's a deal breaker. I
don't think it's more than a discussion. I think maybe
you and him should have some conversation about how he
really feels. He's old enough to talk to about this,
and then the three of you need to have discussions. Well,
I think if he understands your genuine love for his mother,

that might help him. But if he's not understanding a
lot of times, the sixteen year old dude don't see
how he fit.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
Into this thing. And obviously his dad isn't involved, right, Steve,
because she was asking him to adopt.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
Well, you don't know that. You don't know that the
boy and the dad are not talking Somewhere somehow. That's
why you got to get an understanding. Because the sixteen
year old is trying, is struggling with where he fit
into all this act and the guy saying that they
don't have a connection. You could with a sixteen year
old boy, especially if he don't have a relationship.

To the kid today? My man, Let's sit down and
talk and let me tell you something. I love your mom,
and this is what I'd like to do. I'd like
for me and you to have a genuine connection. I
