Speaker 1 (00:03):
Yeah, you're a father, you know, one of the best
we know. Not only do you father your own biological children,
but you mentor many, many millions of boys.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Around the world.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
So I want you to tell us about the first
time you became a father. You didn't just have one baby,
you had a set of twins, Brandy and Curly.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
Let's just be honest about my role as a father.
Every last one of my children, every last one of them,
was a complete damn surprise.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
I did not as a woman came in and said
to me, I'm pregnant. You are crazy.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
Okay, So we have they.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Have, you know, kind dog, so you know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
But I'll tell you, though it's been I think being
a grandfather has been even a little bit more special
because I have, you know, some way of seeing my
name continue through my grandsons. The granddaughters are a lot more,
you know, precious. You know, I never get angry at

(01:33):
my grandkids. I'm always in a good mood with them
because you know, they're not mine, so I don't really care.
But I think the most gratifying thing for me is
watching my children get it right.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Now.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
They've all made a lot of mistakes, but I have
to realize that. Boy, I look back at the mistakes
I made, and nobody could keep judging me over and
over for my mistakes because it wasn't no cyberspace, you know,
there was no Internet, was no Instagram. My children sometimes
their mistakes get broadcast and they have to deal with it,

(02:05):
and then they had the extra burden of being my child.
So now here comes to most spotlight. And so it's
been kind of it's a tough spot to put him in.
But they all have made the necessary adjustments and they've
turned out to be some really really good young people.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Man. And uh, you know, let proud of a lot
of the accomplishments.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
Any advice you can give to people who are dealing
with blended families because you have experience in.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
That as well, I mean, it's not easy. It's difficult.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
If you think parenting is difficult, blending has their own
set of challenges. Just the only thing that Marjorie I
did was we removed the term step Okay, we don't
have step children. We removed and they just are kids now.
And you know, if you want end of that party,
you welcome if you want to step outside of it,

(02:56):
because you feel in some kind of way they're gonna
get you step in but me and that you're been sad.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
All right. Thank you for listening to the Day Harvey
Morning Show.

Speaker 2 (03:08):

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
