Matt, I am so great, Thank you so much. I
am super excited to be here and I love that
money making conversations.

He first of all, you know you you recently were
crowned here. I want to get that honor out the
way because a good friend of mine who produces an event, Anissa,
got me in touch with you, Miss Michigan Corporate America
twenty twenty five. What does that mean?

Speaker 2 (01:27):
I am excited? And yes, the newly crowned Miss Michigan
Corporate America twenty twenty five. And this platform ARM honors
and celebrates and elevates women their brilliance, their beauty and
also what we do in the community. So it's about
lifting women and how we serve in this world.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
Okay, So your doctor, the lices doctor comes at PhD doctors,
you know. So, but you not just a little doctor.
You are a doctor.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Yes, I'm a medical doctor. So people say position, Yes.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
Well a doctor is a doctor to me. Okay, what
I need what I'd say, I need a doctor now?
But you carried a medical field. What got you started?
What made you interested in pursuing this, this degree path
which is also your career path.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Yes, I'm the first doctor in the family, but my
mother is the original healer. And when I was a
little girl, my mother read a book about health and
healing and make some major changes in our family. Neatness
meals we were. She was putting a mask on us
before we even thought about masks. So my mom was
my inspiration for medicine. My dad when he was live,

(02:37):
was about wellness and lifestyle. So I got a throw
from both ends.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
That's interesting. So you're from Detroit, right, yes, okay, tell
us about that community that you grew up in in Detroit.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Yes? What interesting. I grew up in actually a city
called Hydland Park, which is a separate city in Detroit.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
No exactly where that's at all, right, so.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
You know where it is, so you know how the
park was just about family or tribe, and I grew
up there. I was born in Highland Park General Hospital
and lived there until I graduated and went to college.
And my parents my dad was a graduate, so it
was really tight knit community. The teachers were amazing. It
was by celebration and people poured into one another, so

(03:19):
we were there to cheer each other on and we
had a lot of fun. We were wellness and sports.
I ran track in high school, so it was all
about whole person living and thriving. I had family in Baltimore.
So I have older siblings and younger siblings. So my
second sister, her in laws were there, so tightaning and
Judia had that. My oldest sister is retired military, so

(03:41):
she was stationed and she lived in DC and worked
at Fort me while I was there, so having that
role model my sister, she's military, so training and all
of that and then involves I pledged Delta signa Theta
sorority incorporated during college, so vast sorority. It was amazing
not only the just who pledged me, but our advisors

(04:02):
were powerhouse women. So when I was there away, those
are the things that I had in my environment. But
I tell you at home because everything, a lot of
things from me started at home. My mom, my siblings,
my older sisters, and I had an aunt who was
an educator.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
Now here's a young lady. How did Detroit want to
be a doctor. Yeah, Baltimore. You know you got your sisters,
you know your pledging taking up your time. Where did
academics come in?

Speaker 2 (04:31):
Oh, that that was at the top. I had to
do that. I had to do that, so went to class.
I was not one of those who slept in and
just went to class. Every now, and they were like, nah,
I need to go to class, take the notes, be there.
So that was number one.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
Now I'm talking to miss doctor. Let should say Miss
doctor Angela Harden Mac. She's Michigan Corporate America twenty twenty five.
You know you've shared that you're a former superwoman. What
does that mean? Superwoman? That's a great song.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
Now, I know I'm not just super woman.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Come on, you know it, come on, you know it.
But you're a superwoman. What does that be? A former superwoman?

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Former? Yes, I am a former superwoman. I took the
s off my chest. Now I have a w for
well woman. As women, especially high achieving, high performing women,
we often adopt roles. It may be the strong woman,
it may be the perfectionist or people pleaser. I was
a superwoman. I was doing everything and it was interesting
that years later, what I really thought about it. The

(05:30):
Superwoman is a cartoon character that's superhuman. So I was
attempting to live my life and do something according to
some skills or qualities that I didn't have. I'm not superhuman,
I'm human. So I was putting myself at risk for
b Now, I was taking on things unnecessarily and I
was nourishing everyone else, but I was neglecting me. And

(05:54):
I took this off. I let Superwoman go. That's why
I am former Superwoman and now I am well Woman
because I prioritize my wellness and it's about whole woman,
whole person, body, mind, and spirit. And life has been
so much better since I let the Superwoman go.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
Okay, now let's talk about you as an individual. Eobodical doctor,
physician of internal medicine, obesity, those are your lanes of expertise.
Now I'm talking from a Black person's perspective. Now, high
blood pressure, high cleorestero, obesity, those are some realities in

(06:32):
the black community. It was exposed during COVID. What are
we doing wrong in our community? First, before we just
start talking about the world in general with our bad
eating habits or is that just a rumor.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
We begin with where we are at, where we are individuals,
Start with the person, start with the family, and then
we look at the larger scope. We have to be
very careful about taking this that are generalizations and apply
them to everyone. And sometimes that's where people can get
caught up and tripped up and may feel like there's

(07:11):
no hope, begal with you one person, and look at family.
What are things that can be done and make it personal?
What can I do that will be hopeful for my
health and well being? In wellness? And if you want
to start with food, start with that. Can I eveal
fresh fruits and vegetables? And I like to teach ad

(07:32):
before you take away, add the healthy things at the water,
at the fiber, before you begin to look at and
go what I'm not doing right? Because that can make
you feel like you're always missing the lark. So add
the beneficial things before you take away. Look at physical activity?
Am I act well? Do I walk? Do I swim?

(07:55):
At my wolf in a dance class? How can I
add five, ten, fifteen minutes of exercise or physical activity
during the day. What are my stressors? Stress is real,
the struggle is real. And that's not just the black thing,
that's not just the female thing. That's worldwide and we
have a number of professional organizations to talk about stress.

(08:17):
What is in my life that is impacting me causing stress?
Where do I feel stress? Do I have tension headaches?
Do I having in my shoulders having them a chest
in my belly? And how can I reduce my stressors.
And some of those things may be related to our
ethnic group, right, because there are some lived experiences we share.
But even though we have lived experiences that are shared

(08:38):
or comment, we have to bring it home. How does
it impact me, how does it impact my household? And
then from there we go on. So you don't want
to blank and go everybody has the same thing. We're
going to recognize our risk factors.

Speaker 1 (08:53):
That makes sense, you know, but like again, it is
still up to us to make that decision, you know,
to you know, I always call it the solid killer
because you always hear about people going, oh, he was
so healthy. And so as we enter this new era,
there a lot of buzzwords that come out now. Wellness
comes out there, holistic comes out there, you know, people

(09:15):
sugar free veganis starting to be part of a conversation,
Glueness dominating the conversation. These buzzwords and sometimes are good
to year, but they can be bad because they can
become saturated and people could start ignoring them or become well,
that's just something hype. Do you worry about that, doctor Mack?

Speaker 2 (09:39):
Absolutely I do, because you and I like the fact
that you use the phrase buzzwords because something is out there,
we hear it, we hear it, we hear it, we
become saturated and we tune it out. We have to.
And as a I have my medical practice. I'm a doctor,
and then I have my business. I'm a coach. I'm
a wellness coach. So whether I'm in the clinic with
my patients or the lady, he's our coach. It's important

(10:02):
that we know that Number one, I am an individual.
You are an individual. So while we have the general things,
not every piece of information is directly related to you.
Not every benefit or I should say fact or conversation
about food is related to everyone. So we hear the
word and then we should have questions, how does this

(10:24):
relate to me? Is it related to me? And how
is it related to me? How do I take this
information and make it real? So personalization is what we
talk about of customization, and that's important. Hear it, But
don't just put it all in your wellness kid, or
don't just put it all in everything? But how do
I make this real for me?

Speaker 1 (10:44):
Cool? That's right. She's crowned Miss Michigan Corporate America twenty
twenty five. She's a medical doctor doctor Azela harden Back.
She's from Detroit, rolled over to Baltimore, got that undergrad
did she rolled back to Detroit became a medical doctor.
Now tell us about your company. You said your platform

(11:04):
is your invitation for others to rise. What legacy are
you hoping to lead and what impact do you want
to make in the lives of the women you serve.

Speaker 2 (11:14):
Yes, because I am about taking others with me and
empowering women to rise well w E L L. I
encourage women to wisely elevate their well being to live
the best life, making wellness a priority, not an afterthought,
not an incidental oh if it happens to come up,

(11:35):
but prioritizing wellness, prioritizing self. And when a woman says yes,
I put me right here front and center. I know
my wellness is important. Life begins to bloom and flourish
around you. And we know that it's not just about
the number one scale, it's not just about what size

(11:55):
you are, but it's body, its mind, and spirit, that holistic,
one composed component, whole person, holistic and empowering women prioritize wellness,
holistic wellness, and women are flourishing because when woman is
well and whole and happy. Home is happy, communities are happy.

(12:16):
The world is a better place.

Speaker 1 (12:18):
So with that being said, let's transition to the buzzwords
and go more and much more detail. What is holistic wellness?

Speaker 2 (12:27):
Wellness? Know that wellness is beyond health. It's not just
about not being sick, but it's about adding to and
creating the scenario to survive. And it's about having a
lifestyle where you're able to nourish you. So wellness is
a lifestyle where you can nourish and be intentional about

(12:48):
being healthy, holistic, the whole person, so body minded, spirit,
and the three are interconnected and inter related.

Speaker 1 (12:59):
No, so you're in the medical field, and I'm assuming
that this field, let's just bear with my common sense.
Here are you in a feel where there are a
lot of people who aren't degreed in medicine trying to
have the same conversation about holistic wellness. But I won't

(13:22):
use the word not qualified, but they're not educated to
the point where you really are a doctor, and they're
just applying a science that they are aware of. And
that seems to come across a lot in social media
because I see it all the time.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
Your thoughts, Yes, and I agree. It is important that
we whether it's for on social media or whether you
are researching a coach or a physician, to understand their
education or their experience and expertise. Because we've heard this phrase,
sometimes you only have to be two steps ahead of someone.

(14:00):
It'll be two steps ahead, but that won't always mean
that you have the experience to know how to address
certain things. So identify what your goals are. Someone says,
I want maybe mental wellness, because even with wellness, some
people may focus on maybe two or three domains. Research
that individual and find out if you want more expressive

(14:22):
or expansive, I focus on seven domains. Then you want
to look to that and find out what that individual,
like you mentioned, what's the education or how long have
they been doing is That's the other thing. We all
start from ground zero, step one, So know what it
is you want and test the waters you'll know.

Because the reason I bring it up, doctor Mac, is
that I'm watching TV and AI people are talking back
to a telephone. How you doing today? I'm doing five?
How you doing? Or did you get your did you
buy your gift for your mom? We have people going
back and forth with AI, and so that's what I'm saying.

(15:29):
So I'm not saying they cutting you out, are cutting
down your education, but people are interacting now with the
computers like they're human and getting this similar holistic and
wellness training that I don't think is fair. That's where
we're going as humans. We're interacting and losing the human component.

(15:54):
Do you worry about that? Doctor Mac?

Speaker 2 (15:59):
Not worried, And you have a great example, and I
know we are having discussions about that. And the key
thing is the human touch or element. I like AI.
I like the science and innovation, and absolutely we using
a medicine. But I tell you, when I'm sitting either
with my coaching client or I'm sitting with the patient,
when I sit there and lean forward and I listen

(16:20):
to them and ma'am sir, how may I help you today?
I'm smiling, I'm leaning in. You want to get that
from a computer or when I can let that individual
know well, based on what you share, I can take
it and make something real and relevant. I'm not talking
about a textbook. I'm talking about this is where the
art of it comes. My years of experience. I then

(16:40):
can present that individual two or three scenarios and empower
him or her. This is what can be helpful, what's
more attractive to you? So we still want that human element.
We still want someone to lean in. We still want
someone to say, good job, I'm here for you, I'm
in your corner. We still want that and we need it.

Speaker 1 (17:00):
Well, it's very important we're talking like this, you know,
especially with your foundation that you created. You're the founder
of Live Grade Lives, LLC, a company their career women,
relieve overload, reduce stress, live satisfied and fulfilling lives. Let's
first talk with relieve overload? How do you do that?
In your foundation?

Speaker 2 (17:19):
We talk about number one? We have to be aware
of it. What are all the things that you need
to do every day? As women? Right, we have men too.
As women, we have multiple roles and responsibilities. Are you
working and living according to your purpose or are you
doing too much? So identify it and in streamlining, are
there things you can do in your schedule to delegate

(17:40):
If we're feeling overloaded a lot, that's a great opportunity
and an indictator look evaluate and make changes because we
don't always have to live continuously in the state of overlom.

Speaker 1 (17:54):
I'm right in the middle of it. So basically you're
talking to me on this next one reducing stress. You know,
in fact, I'm in therapy right now to try to
reduce stress, to figure it out. Change my schedule, you know,
I've changed it used to be when I used to
work out, I have the TV on. Now stop the

(18:15):
TV from being on. And so I feel that's helped
me a lot because actually the workout goes faster now
because I was prolonging to stop and watching TV and
things like that. And so when you say the word
reduce stress, what are you talking about.

Speaker 2 (18:30):
Stress is a body's response to increase in demands or activities.
So we all have stress. It's how we respond. We
can reduce that. We become aware of it, the increase
in heart rate or the being alert or sometimes we
feel as though we're ready to go. So when we
understand that it's how we respond, we then become aware

(18:53):
where do I feel it in my body? Is it
my head, shoulders, my chest, my belly, And then we
want to look get ways to minimize that response or
eliminate it. So it could be mindfulness, it could be
like you mentioned some people's exercise. There are a number
of things that can be done. You personalize and you
make it yours because we don't have to walk around

(19:13):
when we're always in stress. We're like this like knucle
We're gonna have to walk around like we're hyper alert
all the time. We can break it back, we can chill,
we can relax and still get our thing going to
be in that lane.

Speaker 1 (19:25):
I wrote that Delta. She's a member of Delta Sigmatatata.
I gotta remind myself, I'm a remember Omegazie five. So
she's bizarre rob. We won't go any further than that. Uh,
but let's talk about let's talk about your framework, your
signature framework, and how its towards women that achieve me
whole life wellness.

Speaker 2 (19:44):
Yes, so that ultimate fund work I have is the
Sparkle Framework, and with my company Live Grade Lies, we
have the diamond as an emblem because women, like diamonds,
are multi facetive, brilliant and resilient and are unique. Well,
we talk about it diamond. We know a diamond is beautiful,
but it's also tough, and so when a woman looks

(20:06):
at that diamond, she is reminded of her beauty, of
her unique nature and quality and resilience is something that
we all need. So with my Sparkle framework, it is
roughly three divisions. We have the inner part of who
we are are inner world that's our spiritual that's our physical, mental,
and emotional. We have our higher person that is related

(20:28):
to connecting with our God and our purpose. And then
we have our external how we show up in the world,
so that relates to our career, our finances, we're on
the running conversations and with our social aspect. So the inner,
the higher, and the outer. And when women I brought
through this transformation, this holistic wellness transformation, she's sparkling like

(20:51):
a beautiful diamond.

Speaker 1 (20:53):
I gotta ask you this because you know you do
a lot. You do a lot. That's gonna even say
you the oh shah, you know know what you do? Now,
how do you before you answer in general work life balance,
How do you have your work life balance, Doctor Mac.

Speaker 2 (21:12):
I am one that I enjoy purpose. I know what
my purpose is and I regularly would check deal with me.
Am I following my purpose? Am I saying yes to
the things related to my purpose? I also follow a rhythm,
and that was something that was revolutionary for me about

(21:32):
about fifteen years ago. I identify that although from my
faith standpoint, Sunday that was the day that I worshiped
and went to church. And originally it was like Sunday
was my day off when I was studying some other things,
and I looked at Saturday as the Sabbath, and I said,
I wanted to do this experiment. Let me make this
small shift, and I reset my week so that Saturday

(21:57):
was the end of my week and Sunday was the
first day. So Saturday was the day I rested entirely.
There was a major shift for me, and with that
I began to live and operate according to diffon mirhythm.
And that has helped me to say yes to those
things that are important and relevant and those other activities

(22:18):
I do like my boundaries, the exercise my time in worship,
so that rhythm change or shift was phenomenal.

Speaker 1 (22:27):
Now that's important right there where you talk about high
performing women. So that's you. Now you a coach and
giving instructions, are giving steps? How do you wean people
off that type a schedule that they need to get
off of or as they said, the wheel, you know

(22:48):
that they can't stop spinning. How now that was you?
You can control you because you look in the mirror.
You say you know how to cause as they say,
cut cords. When you're coaching indivisuals, you just don't know.
We got to learn there and be habits. How do
you start that and how you start setting steps for them?

Speaker 2 (23:07):
Coaching is about helping individuals to identify the answers, right,
It's not consulting, it's not counseling. It's coaching. You have
the answers. I as the coach, I come in with questions,
I help to same. I empower and equit the individual
to be in a position to discover the answers. And

(23:30):
we don't change unless we want to change. That's the
reality for all of us. So I present scenarios or
give information so individuals can decide. Because whether it's type
A or some other things. Until someone is ready to change,
change is not going to take place. And we make
decisions about when we have a readiness to change. So

(23:54):
when you're ready, and it will be different for each person.
Someone's ready in this area of life. Someone's ready in
this area of life. So based on the overall goal,
imagine what would life look like when how we can
feel when out of based on the dreams and aspirations,
that's how I meet people on that journey of transformation.

Her name is doctor Angela Harden Mack. She's on my
show because she just recently won Miss Michigan Corporate America,
which represents the state of Michigan. Now, you know, our
foundation is a live grade lives or our businesses live
greade lives. She's a medical doctor, holistic. You know it's
all by educating, getting caught up and these terms. Living

(24:36):
a life stress free, that's what you want people to do.
But we're a life where you know, I can't get
away from my phone or phone comes with me. I
sleep with the phone right next to my bed. Okay,
it's my alarm clock too. Now, Okay, so when it rains,
either it's gonna ring because they're gonna wake me up
and ring or somebody calling me, I might get a
notification because I put it on silent. So we are

(24:59):
suddenly with technology. I had a long conversation with an
interview the other day. I was talking about I can't
even trust my driving skills anymore because I put everything
in GPS, and I refused in my mind. And now
I'm just telling you now I'm making myself go old school.
Now you tell me how to get to your place,

(25:19):
I go that way instead of putting it in my phone.
Some ways were good, in some ways today are bad.
I don't know if it's gonna let us be a
stress free life. But we gotta find boundaries. When we
say the word boundaries, doctor mac, how do you help
us get there?

Speaker 2 (25:39):
A boundary is a guide and it lets us know
the limits. It helps to define what's in. If you
play sports, remember what's in, what's out? If it's in,
then it's great. And so we all have a responsibility
to define those boundaries, the physical, the mental, and the energy.
And when we initially began to communicate our boundaries to people,

(26:03):
it's not easy. And we talked about that fear. Because
we want to please people, we want to be a
team player. We want to be available. But if we're
always seeing yes, yes, yes to everything and being a
team player for everyone, you're not available for the things
that are relevant for you. So deciding and defining your boundaries,
communicating them, and then to be confident to say I'm

(26:23):
not available that catch me next time, let me check
my calendar and get back with you. Or if you
have another way that I may be able to assist,
let's explore that. And part of that technology will we
turn the phones off or down or putting in notifications
to silence Those are important boundaries as well.

Speaker 1 (26:45):
Well, that's what I'm trying. I'm trying to change my life.
And like I said, it's always good deal from an
expert to let me know I'm heading in the right
direction because I gotta change otherwise distress won't change. You know.
I'm talking about Cinderella Award winner Miss Gain, Corporate America
medical doctor Rember of Delta SIGAMATAI. She has so many
times I'm telling you something, I'm gonna get tired if

(27:06):
I get measured it. But more importantly, lovely personality, you're
the right person that are attained to people's lives in
the state of Detroit, in the country that we live in,
because we do live in stressful times. We do need you,
doctor Mac. Don't go nowhere, Okay.
