It could be yours.
Speaker 4 (00:20):
Buckle love on, hold on type. We got it for you.
Here it is Strawberry Letter.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
Thank you, nephew. Subject my night in Shining Armor. Dear
Stephen Shirley. I was so excited for my family to meet.
My life partner and I have been together for almost
two years, and we decided to go visit my mom
so he could meet her and my two uncles that
helped raise me. I am forty eight and my life
(00:46):
partner is in his early sixties. Everything about him is
old school, even his sideburns. He's from South Georgia and
it shows and how he dresses and how he talks.
He wears old school jumpsuits like my daddy wore when
I was a kid, and he also wears hard bottomed
dressed shoes with them. His clothes make him look much older.
(01:07):
I was worried about what he would pack for the
trip to see my mom and I even I got
even more worried when he told me that all he
packed were slacks and a few sleeveless T shirts. So
we got to Florida and we checked into our room
and got ready for dinner with my mom and my uncles.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
My guy put on one of his.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
Favorite shiny suits that he wore back on Easter. He
saw me looking at him funny, and he said he
wanted to show my uncles how fly Georgia boys dress.
I knew then that it was going to be a
long night because my uncles were going to tear him up.
My uncles immediately asked how old he is as they
laughed out loud when he started talking. They called him
(01:48):
my Night in Shining Armor because of his shiny suit,
and he had no idea they were laughing at him.
That was a stressful night for me, but my life
partner handled it well.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
Here's my issue.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
As we move forward in our relationship, I do want
to update his style just a little. How do I
get my Night in Shining Armor to dress better? So basically,
what you're saying, is he's a good man, you like him,
but he's a bad dresser. You say he's your life partner.
You called him that several times in a letter, and
(02:24):
you've already been dating him almost two years. So he
must be doing something right. He must be treating you well,
loving you real good something. So it doesn't sound like
he's going anywhere anytime soon. Life partner means husband to you.
It sounds like which is different and a lot more permanent.
And that's why you took him to finally meet your family.
So he passed that test, even though your folks were
(02:47):
laughing at him. But as far as his old school
jumpsuit shiny to dressing, you got to just tell him.
I mean you got to tell him they said he
looked older. If he's cool with that, just you know,
you know, give.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Him a little pointers.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
You can show him some pictures of some men's fashions
that you like, things that you would love to see
him in, some nice suits, some shoes, casual wear.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Show him a picture of Steve Harvey.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
I mean, why not. He's he's all over social media
with his dressing. I mean they call him blue cheese.
He's kind of in the same age group as your
life partner. There are plenty of posts on social media
of old older men dressing and looking good. Just sit
him down and tell him you would love to see
him and some of these outfits. Okay, you can work that.
(03:34):
If this is a good man, he'll understand. Tell him
this is how you would like to see him dress
from now, and I'll make him look a little younger.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
All of that. He might get into that Steve, you changed.
Speaker 5 (03:44):
This is a this is an easy letter. Yeah, I've
changed over the years. I mean, people watch you dress.
My change, you know. Look, well, it started on showtime
at the Apollo. Then that's when I first started wearing
what was called a custom to the suit.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
When I met Barbara Bates in Chicago.
Speaker 5 (04:05):
Shout out to Barbara Bates was just the dopest designer
for our culture in urban men'swear that I had ever seen.
I mean, she crossed patterns. I never even knew you
could do that. She put a glen plaid with a
with a with a with a hounds too. Oh, she
(04:27):
was doing some dope stuff, I mean, you know, And
I started wearing them suits. Those suits graduated to the
kings of comedy tour, and that Kings of Comedy Tour.
I wore that style for a long long time. Big pants,
twenty nine inches at the knee. My knee was bigger
(04:48):
than most people wasting. So I've seen it. And it
wasn't that I was dressing older. I was dressing urban.
People don't understand that I represented the Midwest. I was Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Philly.
You know, you know, Philly ain't in the mid West
the way the brothers dressed at Boyd's up in Philly,
(05:09):
and and all them shops up through there, and Walter's
in Detroit, you know, Jackson in Detroit, or city Slickers
in Broadway, you know albertson Cleveland and then Evergreen.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
I was just that.
Speaker 5 (05:25):
So we don't even really have a problem in this letter.
This letter, it's nothing wrong. You got a good man,
he's faithful. He's older than you, but he looked like
well you forty eight here in his early sixties. He
is older than you.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
But now this jump suit will need to dress shoes.
Speaker 5 (05:48):
Where is he finally he jumpsuits at where?
Speaker 3 (05:53):
Where in southern Georgia he got?
Speaker 5 (05:57):
Now let's go over to you got Albany got Valdosta,
you got Brunswick. You know those are the major city South,
and you know you could throw making in their savannah.
So he's somewhat in Now where is he finding the
(06:17):
jumpsuits at?
Speaker 2 (06:19):
Still got m that's problem.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
And he got side burns.
Speaker 5 (06:24):
I'm gonna tell you how you can help your man,
which is really an easy fix.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
This is really easy. I'm your night Shining.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
All right, Hang on, step you're just broke into song.
We'll have a part at twenty three minutes after the hour.

All right, come on, Steve let's recap today's strawberry letter.
The subject is my night in Shining Armor.
Speaker 5 (07:36):
Well, this lady's got this older gentleman that's been a
life partner for two years. She's forty eighties, in his
early sixties. Everything about him his.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
Old school, even his side burns.
Speaker 5 (07:47):
He from South Georgia, and it shows in how he
dresses and how he talks. The good old country boy
he might be according to the end of that, he could.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
Be a country bumpkin.
Speaker 5 (07:58):
We don't know, or there's some people out there, some
haters who were determined that for you, so just hanging
or so far sound like a good dude. He wear
old school jumpsuits like my daddy wore when I was
a kid, and he got hard and he wear hard
bottom dress shoes with it. I hate when I see
older men in a suit with sneakers on them. I
(08:22):
just I just don't.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
That don't equate to me.
Speaker 5 (08:27):
Now, you can do it, but just because you can
do something, don't mean you should do something. Skinny jeans
was a thing for a while. Anybody can buy skinny jeans.
Everybody don't need to own a pair, So it just
stands the reason. Now your guy is a nice guy.
(08:52):
So you're going down to Florida to meet your mama
and your two uncles that raised you. You was a
little concerned about what he was gonna where because he
told you he packed with slacks and a few sleeveless
T shirts. So y'all got the Florida. You checked into
your room, and you got ready to go to dinner
with your mom and your uncles. Your guy put on
(09:12):
his favorite shiny suit. My man come through that he
woke back on Easter. He saw me looking at him
fronty and he said he wanted to show my uncles
how fly he Georgia boy's dress.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
Now, I don't know where he got that suit from.
Speaker 5 (09:29):
I'm the host of family Feud, so I have discovered
of late that a lot of people.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
Buy clothes on Amazons Dress clothes.
Speaker 5 (09:44):
Got them bought some fishing pants and camouflaged pants off there.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
But I didn't know. You actually shocked.
Speaker 5 (09:51):
But your husband, your man put on this shiny suit,
and he probably got that from Amazon when he got feast.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
You can get the whole suit forty nine though.
Speaker 5 (10:01):
So now he told you that he wanted them to
see how them Georgia boys dressed. I knew that it
was gonna be a long night because my uncle's was gonna.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
Tear him up.
Speaker 5 (10:10):
My uncles immediately asked how old he is as they
laughed out loud when he started talking. They called him
my night in Shining Armor cause of his shiny suit.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
He had no idea they was laughing at him.
Speaker 5 (10:24):
That was a stressful night for me, but my life
partner handled it well.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
That means you got a good man. Here's my issue
as we.
Speaker 5 (10:31):
Moved forward in our relationship, I do want to update
his style just a little. How do I get my
Knight in Shining Alma to dress better? Simple and take
him shopping. That's all you got to do. Take him
shopping and say, baby, that's what I like. Oh my god,
you look handsome. Every man wants his woman to think
(10:55):
he's handsome, even if he ain't, even if he.
Speaker 6 (11:01):
Em Just tell me, if you throw a rock in
a pack of dogs, the one that holler is the
one you're hit.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
That's some That's some Georgia boy stuff right there.
Speaker 5 (11:22):
And just take him shopping and just try on some
stuff to go or go the magazine and oh baby,
look at this right here. You ought to get that
I bet you would look good in that, and do
it real motivational. Don't tear down what he got, just talk.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
About what he would look like and the new. Now,
when the new come, you start replacing stuff.
Speaker 5 (11:48):
Prime example, Marjorie told me one time, she said, baby,
some of your suit.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
I just you can't do this no more.
Speaker 5 (11:56):
Because when I got on Family Feud the first year,
I wore my same suits and she said, Steve you
and Miller America, Now you can't do that. And then
when I got the talk show, she said, you show
can't do that. You gotta look like you should have
a talk show. So I started changing back in two
thousand and eight, two thousand, two thousand and eight. Now
(12:17):
we got married a little bit before that, so she
started to change immediately. And I asked Margie one time,
I said, baby, when you met me, I was wearing
these suits. She said, I know, I know, but I
was gonna change. So I just have to take my time.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
I married, I was gonna change. I married you anyway
because you're a good man.
Speaker 5 (12:38):
I said, well, baby, what's wrong with my suit? She said,
I'm tired of being married to a pimp. You gotta
get rid of hats. You gotta get rid of big suits.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
All this here what you need. Man.
Speaker 4 (12:53):
So she just basically stripped you down and did like
a build a band, just built it the way she
wan me to do.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
Got you hot, looking like exactly the same way Jackie
did you.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
Sounds like he had a problem with it, though.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
Yeah, I mean he ain't like I ain't seeing it
happen to you. Right, all right, all that little cheap
stuff you used to wear.
Speaker 5 (13:20):
Jackie came in there with, Uh, no, you're going to
come on, we're going to We're going to o V.
Speaker 3 (13:28):
Tommy didn't have none of that stuff before.
