let's get this show started.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
My next guest found a small nonprofit organization in Detroit
that works hard to alleviate all non academic barriers for
education for young people. During the pandemic, he led the
effort to distribute over fifteen million meals to the Don
River community via a partnership with Forgotten Harvests. He is

(00:46):
highly respected in the community over twenty years of service
and the philanthropic activities across the Detroit community. Please work
with the Money Making Conversation Master Class. Terrence Wheeler, parents, Tita,
Welcome to my show.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
Man.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Thank you so much for having me.

Speaker 4 (01:04):
Good brother, I appreciate you man, you the best. So
this is a great opportunity to be before your audience.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Well, I'm gonna tell you this if everybody give a
little background about what you're doing in Detroit before we
get to the big store. I know this time of
year we're not talking about making money. It's that time
you give back, this time you donate. I'm asking for
no donation. I just want to highlight people in certain
people around the country who consistently have put the community,
sometimes for their families, sometimes for their own job, because

(01:35):
they want to make a difference.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
That difference is important to you.

Speaker 4 (01:38):
Why Terrence, you know, coming from humble beginnings with Sean,
I grew up with a mother on drugs and a
father that was absent, and so I would not be
sitting here had it not been for other people sending
in the gap. No one is successful by themselves. Someone
has to nurture and support your greatness. And so for myself,
every program we've developed was derived out of pain myself,

(02:00):
directly or indirectly. Dealing with young people. They'll tell you
what they need. I'm at my optimal level, my oultimate
best helping people. All my blessings come from helping others.
There's no way I would think that it's just me.
It's the race and mercy bestowed upon me. It is
God in the universe moving collectively to put me in

(02:21):
touch with buzzes like yourself that are on a national
scale that we can partner with. These kids need more
than what they're getting right now. Our community right now
has high levels of anxiety after this election. People before
the election, we're dealing with trade offs. Do I buy food?
Do I pay for gas? What am I doing? Just

(02:42):
to make it day to day? If we can get
our young people and our families to just win today,
just win today when these twenty four hours, because you're
gonna win. Don't trip off the wind. You're gonna wim.
Don't trip off the whe in It's gonna happen for you.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Now.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
I always tell people that what happens in Detroit, what
happens in Houston, these are all communities. What's happened in
New York, Chicago, these are communities. Communities usually get the
negative of the short end of the stick, all stereotype.
You go in there, like you said, humble beginnings. I'm
from humble beginnings. Fifth ward. You know, father was a
truck driver, third grade education, Mom graduated from high school.

(03:22):
Six sisters, two brothers, two bevery shotgun house. So I
understand that term humble beginnings, but it didn't stop me,
it didn't stop you. And I'm not saying that people
who don't make it out I should put the thumb
on them and see, I told you you didn't put
forth the effort. But you've always the youth, the youth,
the youth, talk about that passion for the youth.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
Man, I just go back to.

Speaker 4 (03:46):
Having a great high school coach, having a great counselor
that believed in me what I didn't believe in myself.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
Are they poureding to you?

Speaker 4 (03:54):
There was traffic on the extra mile, there was adults
in my life that wouldn't let me fail.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
Well, it's not.

Speaker 4 (04:01):
Your conditions, it's your decision making that determines your destiny.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
So I'm talking to young people. They have the drive
for them to get to school.

Speaker 4 (04:10):
They're innovating, walking past a very violent households or violent
environments just to get to one loving, carrying adult with Sean.
The most expensive thing we do in this country, man,
is put the wrong adults and for their children who
like them or don't love them past their mistakes, don't
love them past their pain. I'm not the judge and jury.

(04:32):
My job is to be able to get the resources
for young people. If that kid gets to school, they've
done their job. Their success is predicated on adult participation.
What are you gonna do to help that kid cross
the finished line? If that young lady has on a
dress that you deem inappropriate, help her get another dress.
That young brother pants is sagging, why don't you lift

(04:52):
his dreams and lift his aspirations and maybe he'll lift his.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Pants or you know this is a complaint.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
It's like Steve always say, when you point your figure,
I always know that some fingers pointing back at you.
M man, I understand three of them pointing right back
at you. One might be up in the air, but
when you pointing, three of them come back. So there's
as a Claire understanding that you might be pointing something out,
But what are you doing to make a difference?

Speaker 1 (05:17):
And that's what you do on a regular basis.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
Now, when I when I talk about, like I said,
my humble beginnings, you know you just went right past
your mom drug abuse. How did you tell us about
that lifestyle and tell us about some of the things
that that's a youth you had to deal with. That
makes you understand that's not the lifestyle I want from
anybody in my family or the kids that I work with.

Speaker 4 (05:38):
Absolutely, man, you know, my mother's drug usage saved my life.
I saw not only her but her friends, who were
great people, but some kind of way they lost their way,
whether it's some some incident in life, some traumatic.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
Incident that happened. I never knew.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
She never told me why she got on drugs, but
I just would see her and her friends in the
zombie state of mind, just trying to escape whatever pain
they was dealing with. And I said, that would never
happen to me. These are beautiful people that lost their way.
What can we do to release that trauma? And so

(06:16):
I've always said, if I'm in a position, I'm gonna
use my position to enrich the lives of our young people.
And so many helped me, whether it was buying me
some basketball shoes, donating money for me to get to
a camp where I could be seen by college scouts.
So once again, it's not nothing I'd done, is that
they saw some something in me. But yet it had
not been on that an adult pouring into me with resources,

(06:37):
with love, because I lived by Rashan Proverbs thirteen and
four man says, the soul of a lazy man desires
and has nothing, but the soul of a diligent man
shall be made rich. I will never be rich as
Bill Gates, but I'll be richer empathy and love and
ethical care for my people.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
Let me tell you something about by Terrence Wheeler. Now,
I met Terrence Lively about years ago. Now now he
was he was Derrick Coban, NBA great and uh. We
used to always eat breakfast every time Steve already now
and the crew came to Detroit.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
We always hooked up with bought.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
Some hats, Yes, sir, walk his brother did y'all see
that ain't the brother I met, Yes, sir, but not
saying the journey's wrong, that the community has.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
Poured into him.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
Yes, sir.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
He tells his story better, He tells his mission better,
which is what it's all about, which is leading to
what I'm talking about right here. And this is why
I got him on the phone, Ladies and gentlemen. He's
gathered celebrities for the All Star gearback, but he been
doing every year, and now every year he gives it back.
And I'm always trying to grab him and bring him off. Boy,

(07:50):
he got NBA great, Like I told you, my boy
Derrick Coleman sixty nine and a half.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
You know Gary.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
Payton, my boy Isaiah Thomas, Rick mahone on, you know
Rick o'hornt and knocking people down.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
Bad boys crossover, Tim Hardaway. Yeah, I'm just throwing out
a few names. My boy here Harper living up in Detroit.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
Uh. Then my boy Herman Moore, who I just had
on NFL great, just great entrepreneur, Lons Brown office to
tackle Detroit lives. I know he happy right now. Calvin
Johnson just went into the Hall of Fame. Come on
now six five from Georgia Tech going now, and then
then the Governor. That's what that's That's why I called you.

(08:31):
You got the gun coming in to your tooke A giveaway. Man.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
With Sean, I have been so immensely blessed.

Speaker 4 (08:38):
Man. So you go from a with Sean McDonald, who
is world renown. You can't watch a TV show without
his name coming across the screen, and now I'm over
it with the governor. Man, tell me God ain't able.
He's able to do all things. Brother, I am man
just sitting in the Cadbury seat. Been able to communities,

(09:02):
the government. I have her sometimes in the hood while
giving away fool because people need to see her.

Speaker 3 (09:08):
People need to man.

Speaker 4 (09:09):
I had her hanging out with me for my birthday
two years ago, with Sean, with Nas and Wu Tang
at a concert Brough, Yeah, with Method and Ariz in
them and my man of Ray Kwana Chef. But I
say all that to say, Man, I don't take this
position lightly. I try to do good work. I try

(09:30):
to be a man of my word because I know
that's my currency. All you have is your work. If
me and you had not been able to develop this
brotherhood thirty years, so I'm going back, man. I was
telling them Tommy about it two weeks ago. I said, Tommy,
I remember when Raver was out there. We were doing
dominoes out there with Raver. Come on, man back ninety

(09:52):
two point three to beat the CEO in them cats. Man.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
It is a long term. It's a long term friendship.

Speaker 4 (09:58):
And what people need to really lives is that you
got to be on the right side of humanity. What
doesn't happen if you're some shady dude and man, Sean
ain't not time to deal with you.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
It's a big time.

Speaker 1 (10:10):
Man, So I appreciate the compliment, but.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
Man, I thank you because I'm not giving thousand turkeys.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
Do it? Three thousand turkeys.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
And with all the trimmings, you know they get twelve
or fifteen pombird.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
Let me get let me get it before you get there.
Let me get the story. Yeah, because I love talking
to people. Just talk too fast. Okay, three thousand turkeys, right,
And then he said, Rishard, five hundred chickens.

Speaker 3 (10:37):
See see when he said chicken, I just couldn't.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
Comprey give it.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
I have five hundred chickens, three thousand turkeys. Tell me
how this all came about. I know you do it annually, but.

Speaker 4 (10:50):
Yeah, So me and Derreck Coleman started twenty seven years
ago over on Lynnwood and Taylor were two hundred turkeys,
just trying to feed our community because the need is
great and poverty has no zip code. And so what
we learned, especially during the pandemic, is that you may
have somebody driving a catle that could be living in
that catalect. I'm not here to judge you. Less judgment,

(11:12):
more help. And so once we started doing this, we realized, oh,
the same person needs Renners assistance.

Speaker 3 (11:18):
This same person needs some socks.

Speaker 4 (11:20):
So we got socks, we got belts, we got Renners assistance,
we got the FBI showing up with Shara doing child
application apps for kids because Michigan is top ten for
human trafficking.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
So just trying to wrap our arms around the entire community.
Why have a position if you're not going to use
it to help somebody else.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
Well, I'm talking to Terrence Wheeler TWP Terrance Wheeler Productions.
Now before I get in more further, how can people
reach out to you if they want to donate, they
want to get more turkeys, how can they reach out
to you?

Speaker 3 (11:51):
Call me B one three eight one nine zero zero
four zero. We have the terrorists we live.

Speaker 4 (11:58):
One more time three one three eight zero zero four zero, Okay,
Or they can hit me on the on the on
our website, which is Chance with Theefoundation dot com.

Speaker 3 (12:08):
Uh, and we'll we'll make sure we get back to
you at the end of the day.

Speaker 4 (12:11):
Sometimes it's not even about money with Sean, it's human capital.
Maybe you want to come and volunteer, but if we
can inspire people to just do something in their community,
if everyone does a little, no one has to do
a lot.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
Just do a little bit, whatever you can do.

Speaker 4 (12:25):
Maybe you can't do three thousand turkeys, maybe you can
do ten for a family in need.

Speaker 3 (12:30):
Maybe you can get somebody a ride to that church
that has a food pantry.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
Right.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
Well, here's the beauty of it. I know what he's doing.
I've been there when he said the word volunteers. He
needs volunteers because it ain't easy giving out three thousand
cold turkeys.

Speaker 1 (12:44):
Because when you get out of the turkey, it's cold.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
Now, it's rock hard, and it's a lot of people
need to understand you're going to get a frozen turkey.
It's a lot of people think they get the turkey,
they can put it the other and just start cooking. No,
because it's already gonna be rock cold now. But you're
doing something special. Terms for the seniors, the handicap, and
the veterans talk about that precation.

Speaker 1 (13:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (13:05):
So you know what, over the years, you just start
to develop better what they call it best practices. And
so our seniors and our veterans and military families oftentimes
can't get to us because the handicapped or the transtation challenge.
So we set this stuff aside on Monday night, pack
it up and we take it to our senior facilities.
We take it to our veterans so they don't have

(13:26):
to work as hard to get to us because.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
They may not be able body or have transportation.

Speaker 5 (13:30):
Please don't go anywhere. We'll be right back with more
Money Making Conversations Masterclass. Welcome back to the Money Making
Conversations Master Class hosted by Rashawn McDonald.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
Well again, Terres for the multi platinum Emmy win and
Grammy nominee rapper Big Sean gonna be there from the
Seawan Anderson Foundation NBA players. He already said Derrick Cole
during this Bad Boy with twenty seven years Garrett, that's
the glove, right the club go to be there.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
Your glove you find on the Red Eye Man, Willie Burton, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
Paul Ford, Isaiah come on, all time great point guard,
Rick Mahorn, Hell Harper Man, Lonema, Rob Simms, Calvin Johnson,
Wayne County Executive Warren Evans. I want to make sure,
just in case you hear this, that I say everybody
day on this fly, Wayne County, Cheff Ray, Washington Governor
Gretchen went Moore. I didn't know what you were like
that I love her to death now, Lieutenant Governor Garland

(14:32):
gil Kurst, Gil Chris City Council President Mary Sheffield. But
to talk about as we close out who you are,
why you do what you do?

Speaker 1 (14:41):
One more time, Terrence, and the floor is yours. Man.

Speaker 4 (14:44):
I am so grateful over sean to have this position,
to be able to help people, to be able to
connect the dots to poor resources for families that are
in need. I stood in that line, you know, thirty
years ago. I know what it feels like, not here
to judge anybody, and I just want young people to
understand that if I can do it, you can do it.
If I can go from a dope house to the

(15:05):
white House, soaking you is God's grace and mercy gonna outwork.
Everybody refuse to be average man, and so I want
to be a difference maker. I want to leave this
earth on empty, have help as many as I can,
as often as I can. I can't take none of
it with me anyway, brother, So at the end of
the day, man, it's let me give it to the people.
And lastly, but if I ever hit the power ball,

(15:28):
I'm giving away seventy five percent of it. Man, to
my community, man.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
Right right, right, Well, I'm not gonna hold it too.

Speaker 2 (15:35):
I don't have to hold you to that because that's
gonna be the ultimate blessing because you really can do it.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
Right then, Yes, I just gotta be there to stop you.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
You know.

Speaker 3 (15:43):
Yeah, we gotta get there. Man. Get some pies on them.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
Yeah, put a little bit over here. Man. Let the
interest just pay for stuff. Don't just everything, all right,
get this financial models. So when you go one hundred,
now that Terrence Wheeler production will be still putting the
kids in school, changing communities. They have a special program
they're set aside for senior citizens, veterans and disable to

(16:12):
come in and be honored because, like I said, especially
on the veteran's side of the table, we kind of
forget because they don't wear uniforms. We don't recognize them
for their service that they're constantly doing, whether they're active
or not active.

Speaker 1 (16:26):
Again, Terrence Wheeler, thank you for y'all.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
Know you're busy, brother, because next week you're gonna be
slanking slanging turkeys, blanking turkeys.

Speaker 3 (16:33):
It's a great time to be busy with Sean.

Speaker 4 (16:35):
At the end of the day, Collectively, man, we get
this thing done had it not been for Derek. Like
I said, Gary Payton on the Red Eye, he find
them from Oakland, picked him up at six twenty five. Man,
this guy to extend himself. He ain't from the trade.
We just got a great relationship from college, you know
what I mean. And so have him here. Man to
have some other brothers come and say, you know what,

(16:56):
we want to be a part of it, because your
time is your biggest asset.

Speaker 3 (17:00):
What we waste the most. People give your time and
I mean something.

Speaker 2 (17:04):
Awesome, ladies, and you give a big rhynd of applause.
I know we not applause because I'm not doing a
live show, but I'm gonna give a big round applause
to the one and only Terrris with it. Thank you
