Speaker 6 (02:03):
Good morning everybody you are listening to the voice, Come on,
dig me down one and only Steve Harvey got a
radio show.

Speaker 7 (02:12):
Man o man o, man, I just I have to
tell you this. How good is the God I serve?
How amazing is he? That's that's all, you know? And
you know what, really, man, when I try to explain

(02:32):
how I feel about what he does for me, really,
the words that I come up with, that they just
they they inadequate. Man, They don't. They don't cut it.
They really don't. You know, I could say amazing. At
one time, I even just got I tried something real ignorant.
One time, I just said, you know, God is just
super capsual, fragilistic as be all adocious. I just tried that.

(02:54):
See how that felt that's that's all to change is
with me. I just try to because see how that felt.
But then I ain't feel right saying that's the fact
that he's amazing and awesome and he's an awesome God.
You hear people say that is it's bigger than that too, man.
So you know, as hard as I try, no matter
what I do every day, I'm gonna come up short

(03:15):
with trying to explain to you exactly how he works
and how he is for me.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
So I just thank him that every day every chance
I get here. It is.

Speaker 7 (03:26):
It is your determination and your effort. Listen to me carefully.
It is your determination and your effort. I think that
the average person, and I'm not knocking you, I just
want you to hear me out. I think what stops
the average person from becoming successful is that we don't

(03:50):
realize the effort that it takes. And that's just truth.
I found that to be so true in my life
and my talking to peace people and meeting people, and
people are asking me questions about it and me trying
to figure out the way myself. I don't think that
you really can comprehend the effort that it takes to

(04:13):
become successful. This is the thing that you have to
wrap your mind around very quickly if you want to
be successful on any level in any area. The dream
is the beginning. Good Lord, let me tell you something.
The determination and effort is massive. You cannot be overly

(04:35):
concerned with sleep. If you are a person who is
always concerned about sleep, gets success out your mind. Ain't
finn happen. Partner, is not finn happen. You cannot be
that concerned about sleep. Now, listen to me. You have
to get your rest. But this was my philosophy. I'm

(04:56):
just sharing you with what how I did it. My
philosophy was I stopped being concerned about sleep. I got
my rest, but I got just enough to get back
to it, and I got back on the grind to
hop in the hustle. I got just enough rest so

(05:18):
I could go and put forth some more effort.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
But listen to me.

Speaker 7 (05:24):
You cannot sleep a third of your life away and
expect to become successful. If you're not already successful. If
you are asleep for eight hours, that is a third
of your day. You cannot be asleep a third of
your life and expect to get successful. Now, after you
get successful, you know, you learn as you go to

(05:46):
work smarter, not harder. So as you get successful, you
may have eight hours available to you. But on the
way up there, I don't see how you can do it,
I promise you.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
I don't. Now, maybe somebody can come for it. I
did it.

Speaker 6 (05:59):
Hey, yeah, probably lying. But okay, tell your story, because
everybody I know that's successful that I've sat down I
had real talks with They wasn't concerned with sleeping. You
cannot be concerned with sleeping if you want to be successful.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
How can this happen for you? Listen to me.

Speaker 7 (06:21):
The effort that it requires is massive. It's an all
out of salt on your dream. Now you got to
make an assault. It requires an all out of salt
on it. And you can't be sleeping. Fight at the
same time. You can't fight when you sleep. Man, I
wish I could get y'all understand this right here. Understand
that the effort that is required to be successful will

(06:44):
take everything you have, and when you think you've given
your all, it's gonna require some more.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
The quality of your chield is amazing.

Speaker 7 (06:55):
See okay, listen to what is sitting around having a
bill every day? What but they're sitting around smoking weed
for every day.

Speaker 8 (07:04):
Pa.

Speaker 7 (07:05):
Come on, man, for real, But if you took that beer,
drinking weeds, smoking chill time and applied it to progressing
yourself towards your dream.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
When you do carve out.

Speaker 7 (07:18):
A vacation, guess where you be able to go. Guess
what part of the world you can go see. Guess
how you can cheer up now instead of you just
driving Every year your family to the family union, sit
at the same picnic table. Everybody pull they money in.
Two and ten families don't never pool they money in.
They down there eating like y'all eating. You got attitude

(07:39):
cause cause the day or day side don't have a
chip in or not.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
They down there eating the extra potatoes at it making places.

Speaker 7 (07:45):
You're not huguing about this every year for real, man,
They ain't got the T shirt money, you know, they
got the same T shirt on. They ain't put in
that really, man, so so so so so you want
that to be it every year? Or do you want
this year I'm taking my family to New Orleans, or
I'm taking my family see the Grand Canyon. I'm taking

(08:06):
my family down to the beach this year. Me, me
and my family gonna go sight See, we're gonna go
ride a couple of river on Chicago. Me and my
family gonna go skiing this year. Me and me and
my family going out to La Man we go. We're
gonna go out there for the weekend. You know, you
know it can happen like that. But if you ain't working,
listen to me. Average effort gets average results. That's that's

(08:34):
all it is to it. See, ordinary effort gets ordinary results.
But if you put forth an extra effort. See, the
only difference between extraordinary and ordinary is one word.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
That's extra.

Speaker 7 (08:53):
If you do extra, you can take ordinary right on
over to extraordinary. Do you understand you have to have
a massive assault on your dreams? Quit sitting up in here, man,
trying to chill all the time. I'm sorry, man, I
wish I could tell you another way, but it ain't one.
Here's what I did. I wasn't concerned about how much

(09:13):
sleep I got. I just had to get my rest.
And once I got enough rest to get up and
get the task done, I got up. Somebody sent me
a tweet the other day, a partner of mine. He said,
to see if I can pull it up while I'm
talking to you. But he just sent me a little

(09:33):
sign just what nothing, just a little something to say,
Hey man, I ran across this, I thought about you,
and I sent it to you. It said no alarm
clock needed, My passion wakes me. It's in block print.
He said, no alarm clock needed, My passion wakes me.

if I take a little bit of your time, we're
trying to actually get a survey signed by people in
the black community. We're actually trying to help out in
the black community. But the organization is b PE TMC.
And what this is is black What is that? Uh,
that's that's Black people eat too much chicken. So what

(18:53):
we're doing is we're trying to get back say that
one more time for me. Black people eat too much chicken.
You see, there's been a shortage in chicken. So what
we're trying to do is get black people have shortage
in chicken.

Speaker 16 (19:06):
And you want to do a survey.

Well, we want what we want you guys to do
is sign a petition that you're not gonna eat any
more chicken this year?

Speaker 16 (19:14):
What does it even make sense? We just start to
eat chicken. You know, we eat beef, we eat steak,
we eat fish. I don't So you're trying to pull
that off the market. Now, why would you want to
tell us not to eat chicken? Then we eat other
stuff too? Why are you getting her defined in trump?

Speaker 13 (19:29):
Because this doesn't make any sense. The test study, man
was over chicken, and it just seems like that test study.

Speaker 16 (19:36):
Who did this test study?

Speaker 13 (19:37):
Well we did, man, we're bpe TMC. And what after
doing the test study, we did realize that the black
people are.

Speaker 16 (19:44):
The ones that make the chest only just do have
to do black people? I'm gonna just use white people.
But white people eat chicken too. And she goes out
at a diets and stuff.

Speaker 13 (19:53):
Okay, man use Asian?

Speaker 16 (19:56):
What about the Hispanics?

Speaker 3 (19:57):
Did you use them?

Speaker 13 (19:58):

first study is black people, and what we're trying to
do is get you guys to cut back on eating.

Speaker 16 (20:05):
Yes, study should be everybody. This is something what you
get my number from?

Speaker 3 (20:09):

Speaker 13 (20:10):
We got to we got numbers from the supermarkets of
people that my number from those supermarkets.

Speaker 16 (20:14):
I ain't give my number to no supermarket. This is
don't make any sense. You calling me, interrupted me about
something like this.

Speaker 13 (20:21):
This is this is bottom line, ma'am.

Speaker 16 (20:24):

Speaker 13 (20:39):

Speaker 16 (20:42):

and not just at that particular, time but you need
to give some.

Speaker 3 (28:31):
Type of forethought to the long.

Speaker 7 (28:33):

Speaker 3 (31:15):
HAD i hate.

Speaker 8 (31:16):
It what did you do?

Speaker 7 (31:17):
There what did you do? THAT i wrap coil? Wire
it's really it's. Tough you know what dies, Are guys
are these small round things that you pull wire, through
and every dye gets. Smaller so the wire goes through
and compresses and shaves down and gets thinner and. Thinner
so let's say the wire starts like a microphone, cord,

(31:40):
okay and what you're trying to get it down to
is a chord wire that goes inside of inside to speaker.

Speaker 3 (31:49):
Wire what it? Is, Yeah so you put.

Speaker 7 (31:53):
That through the die and it goes through this machine
at a high, speed and every diet goes. Through every
six a fees gets small and, small and it wraps
up into a big coil and then you got to
box it up and put it on the. Pallette now
to break, even your dad had to make two hundred
and thirty eight boxes a.

Speaker 3 (32:12):
Day, wow it'd be some. DAYS i. FINISHED i got
eighty short short. UGLY i, mean you, know but now
you're gonna get a.

Speaker 2 (32:54):
It thank, You, tommy you just hated.

Speaker 7 (32:56):
MAN i didn't like doing the mechanical work to keep
the line running because you to change your dies all the,
time because the respect to come by and tell you
that your wire has a score in, it which means
a little scratch that means one of the dies is
war out and you don't catch. It and then the
inspector come by and x out all your boxes in

(33:18):
the box with the scores and it got to, go
so you lose fifteen fifteen boxes went. Up inspector come
it WAS i hate.

Speaker 9 (56:48):
Letter thank.

Speaker 8 (56:49):
You you sounded a little Like Don cornelius this, Morning all,
right thank. You nephew's subject they let their husbands run.
Wild Dear Stephen, Shirley i've been married maried for two,
years And i'm twenty five years. Old my husband is
twenty six and he pursued me heavily UNTIL i let
him take me. Out we had a great first date

(57:10):
and he told me that he loved. ME i fell
for him really, quick and we got married in no.
Time he lived out in the suburbs AND i had
an apartment, downtown so he stayed with me mostly before
we got. Married right before the, WEDDING i moved in with,
him AND i met three other married couples in his.
Neighborhood they were all professional men and they loved to,

(57:32):
golf mainly because it was a status thing for. Them
AND i asked my fiance at the time why he
never mentioned these, friends and he said they're his neighborhood
friends and he didn't really hang out with them because
he was. SINGLE i got upset and asked him if
he was rushing into marriage to fit. In he said absolutely,
not AND i did not nag him about. It fast

(57:54):
forward to present day and we've been married for two.
Years my husband thinks it's ok to hang out with
his neighborhood friends Every friday And saturday. Night it's fine
if they're in the backyard or in one of their man,
caves but they like to go to the city to hang.
Out i'm the only wife in the group that has
a problem with. It one of the wives told me

(58:15):
that as soon AS i start getting tired of my.

Speaker 2 (58:17):
HUSBAND i will look forward to him hanging out at.

Speaker 8 (58:20):
Night my husband said That i'm making us look bad
as a unit Because i'm always calling around complaining about
him being. OUT i don't like that they let their
husbands do whatever they want to, do AND i hope
it doesn't rough off on my. Husband he's not a big,
drinker but now he's buying liquor and building up his
bar to show off to his. Friends is there any

(58:40):
way to keep my husband at? Home, well you could
lock the bedroom door and throw away the, key you,
know keep them in.

Speaker 2 (58:47):
There but of course you're not.

Speaker 3 (58:50):
Going to do.

Speaker 8 (58:50):
THAT i just think this thing started from the very.
BEGINNING i, mean you guys went really. FAST i, mean
to begin, with said he told you he loved you
on the first.

Speaker 2 (59:01):
Date that was, quick very.

Speaker 8 (59:04):
Quick so now that you've been married for two years
at twenty, eight he'd rather hang out with his boys
on the.

Speaker 2 (59:10):
Weekend at twenty. Eight that just seems rather.

Speaker 8 (59:12):
Odd it seems like you guys would still be honeymooning
getting it in at this. Age he's twenty, eight now
you're twenty. SEVEN i do think it's something to him
rushing to fit in with the rest of his suburban.
Friends you mentioned that he denies, it but there is
something to. That he is trying to impress. Him you
mentioned the. Liquor he's trying to build up his bar

(59:34):
and he doesn't even drink all. THAT i, mean they
do the same things, together leaving their wives at home
when they go to the, city.

Speaker 2 (59:43):
And your, HUSBAND i don't.

Speaker 8 (59:45):
KNOW i think you guys need to work out some
sort of compromise if you want to stay, together because
you guys at The rache are going you might end
up in divorce. COURT i, mean you got to schedule
some date. Nights you got to work on your. Marriage
stop calling around looking for. Him he doesn't like. That
stop talking to these other messy wives who seem. Bitter
they don't even like their. Husband husband's at this. Point they,

(01:00:07):
said you, know when he starts getting on your, nerves
you'll be. Happy all of. That you don't want to
hear that you need to work on your. Marriage if
that's what you, want you, know let him know how you.
Feel don't you know that doesn't require an argument or
anything like. THAT i, mean if he doesn't want to
try to fix, it then you know where you. Stand
your marriage is in, trouble and you guys are. Young

(01:00:29):
you know you're gonna come up against some. Hurdles you
might want to consider counseling at least something to try
and keep your marriage. Together but, first you, know let
him know how you. Feel communicate stee great.

Speaker 7 (01:00:40):
Response, Really i'm stuck on this letter in a couple
of ways because there's so many things wrong, here young.
SISTER i hate to tell you, that but all, right
here goes Uncle. Steve let me try to help you.
Out they let their husbands run. Wild let, okay we'll
get into that in a. Minute you've been married for two.

(01:01:01):
Years you're twenty five years, old your husband twenty. Six
now this is. Young, now this is young to be.
MARRIED i just want to tell you that right off the,
dribble we had a great First he pursued you heavily
until you let him take you.

Speaker 3 (01:01:14):
Out you had a great first. Date he told me
that he loved.

Speaker 7 (01:01:18):
ME i fell for him really, quickly and we got
married in no. Time pump your brakes. Stop here is
the whole, problem and this whole letter is wrapped up
in that statement right. THERE i fell for him really
quickly and we got married in no. Time, well that's
the whole. Problem you did not take the time.

Speaker 3 (01:01:40):
To know the.

Speaker 7 (01:01:41):
Score you did not take the time to read the.
Book you did not take the time to go over the.
Chapters you just jumped into. It anybody that's married will
tell you marriage is a. Challenge, beautiful But lord have,

(01:02:01):
mercy it's a. Challenge and you didn't even have enough
information about your mate going.

Speaker 3 (01:02:07):
In, now he lived out in the.

Speaker 7 (01:02:10):
Suburbs you had an apartment, downtown so he stayed with
you most of the time before you got, married right
before the wed AND i moved in with. Him that's
out in the. SUBURBS i met three other married couples
in his. Neighborhood they were all professional. Men they loved to,
golf mainly because it's the status thing for. Them AND
i asked my fiance why he never mentioned these, friends
and he said they're his neighborhood. Friends and he didn't

(01:02:32):
really hang out with him because he.

Speaker 3 (01:02:34):
Was single.

Speaker 7 (01:02:37):
Right, there right, there and you know why he didn't
hang out with him because as married, people they weren't
doing the things that he was doing as a single.

Speaker 3 (01:02:48):
Man you got.

Speaker 7 (01:02:50):
That when we come, back the rest of it will
get unfolded right in front of. You hope you enjoy,
it and please stay together after my, response it's not,
Over it's just.

Speaker 3 (01:03:02):
Troublesome all, Right.

Speaker 8 (01:03:03):

letter the subject they let their husbands run.

Speaker 3 (01:03:58):
Wild, yeah they, do they let their husbands run.

Speaker 7 (01:04:02):
Wild, now you twenty, five you'dne married this man twenty.
Six you got married really. Quick you got married in no.
Time according to the, letter he lives out in the.
Suburbs they spend all the time downtime with you in your.
Apartment when you all got, married you discovered they had
three friends out there in the suburbs who were all.
Married you wanted to know why he didn't tell you about.

(01:04:23):
Him he, said because they didn't hang out because he
was single and they were. Married LIKE i said in the,
beginning when you get married in no, time you don't
know the whole. Story you can't get a better picture
of the view of the. Picture you haven't read the,
book you don't have enough. Information so now this is
gonna come back to bite.

Speaker 3 (01:04:43):
You, now he didn't really hang out there because he was.
Single so then.

Speaker 7 (01:04:50):
You got upset and you asked him if he was
rushing into marriage to fit. In he, said, no absolutely,
not and so you didn't nag him about.

Speaker 3 (01:05:01):
It fast forward to present.

Speaker 7 (01:05:03):
Day, now we're talking two years, now two years in past,
now and my husband thinks it's okay to hang out
with his neighborhood friends Every friday And saturday.

Speaker 3 (01:05:14):
Night.

Speaker 7 (01:05:15):
Wow, now part of this is because of two. Things Number,
one his friends have been married for a. While, NOW
i guarantee you those three friends are a little older
than he. Is and also this has something to do

(01:05:35):
with youth to want to hang out with your boys
Every friday and Every. SATURDAY i get to hang out
with my main boys twice a.

Speaker 3 (01:05:46):
Year twice a. Year it's WHEN i get to hang
out with my.

Speaker 7 (01:05:51):
Boys all twelve of us get, together and it's twice a.
Year that's. It now it's been twice this year because of.
Funerals sad to, say but that's how long we've been.

Speaker 3 (01:06:05):
Friends now we hang it. Out you hang it out
twice a week Every friday And.

Speaker 7 (01:06:12):
Saturday and if you like, it, okay if they in
the backyard on you and one of their man. Caves
but then they like to go to the city to hang.
Out now you're the only wife in the group that's
got a problem with. It one of the wives told,
me as soon AS i start getting tired of my.
HUSBAND i would look forward to him hanging out at. Night,
see so obviously they've been married longer than two, years

(01:06:36):
they've been married for a.

Speaker 3 (01:06:36):
While if this is the feeling that she.

Speaker 7 (01:06:39):
Has my husband said that you're making us look bad
as a. Unit that's funny right, there when the dude told,
her you're making us bad as a unit by complaining
to the other wives because you're the only one. Complaining,
well the, unit dog is a. Marriage that's a little
bit more important than a. Unit it is an office space.

(01:07:01):
DOWNTOWN a unit is a collection of. Coworkers you all
are a. Unit, No, no this is a. Marriage it's very.
DIFFERENT i don't like that they let they husbands do
whatever they want to. Do AND i hope it don't
rub off on my. HUSBAND i don't know what you're
hoping against it? Already does he hang out Every friday In?

(01:07:22):
Saturday you hope it don't rub off on your? Husband
it done. Rubbed he with them Every Friday. Saturday ain't
that with the letter? Folk it done.

Speaker 3 (01:07:32):
Rubbed he's not a big drinker, now but he buying
looking building up his body to show off to his. Friends,
well that's good because the bars at the.

Speaker 7 (01:07:41):
House, see you're getting him closer to, home and they're
gonna be, drunk but they all gonna be closer to.
Home is there any way to keep my husband at? Home,
well there is a way to keep your husband at.
Home but let me tell you what's happening right. Here
the reason they go out every, night Every, friday in every,
sight because what's out there in them streets is more

(01:08:04):
exciting than what's happening at.

Speaker 3 (01:08:06):
Home. Period this is a.

Speaker 7 (01:08:11):
Fact if your husband is gone Every friday and Every,
Saturday i'm assuming y'all been at Work monday Through, friday
and all of them get together Every friday night and
Every saturday, night is because they're blowing off steam from
the work, week and they're blowing off the steam without their.
Wives something is happening out there in them streets that's more.

Speaker 3 (01:08:35):
Exciting that's what's happening at.

Speaker 7 (01:08:37):
Home whatever happened to date, night it would seem to me,
like since all y'all are, friends it would seem to
me like as, couples y'all would get together and it'll
be one couple's responsibility to host an event at their
house or plan.

Speaker 3 (01:08:57):
The date night for you.

Speaker 7 (01:08:58):
All so if you got did A friday, Night everything
would be cool if the ladies and everybody Got saturday.

Speaker 3 (01:09:05):
Night you ever seen a mob. Movie you ever seen
The mob?

Speaker 7 (01:09:09):
Movie even The mob, movie they had a night with their,
family but then they had a night where their girlfriends
all met down at the cabana or The cotton. Club
even gangsters, know you got to take care of your.
Family these folk foods and got together on the weekends
and decide it ain't no damn.

Speaker 3 (01:09:26):
Family that's about. Us dumb even they do that in
a gangster.

Speaker 7 (01:09:29):
Movie you got a night for the, girlfriend you got
a night for the. Wives Y'all both day nights is.
Shot y'all. Stupid y'all need a date. Night y'all need
a couple's night, out so y'all can save y'all's. Marriage
Because i'm gonna tell you right, now if this continue
Every friday and Every, saturday you can't stay married like.

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
