(00:00):
Welcome into the Oh Show on iHeartRadioalong with coach AJ Pratt. My name
is Paul James. Coach. What'sgoing on? Man plenty? Yeah,
you played all those games last night? I did, and you're you must
be in great shape because you sayyou got no soreness, no hurt in
today. Little here and there, but not like I thought I would.
We were at the Buckeye Imagination Museumand the second floor there in Mansfield is

(00:24):
all og games for a lack ofa better term. You know, all
the stuff that we used to playback when we were in our teams.
You know, the ski balls, the pinballs, the Papa shots, the
air hockeys. It was a lotof fun. We had a good time,
you know, in our kids thesedays would not enjoy that, right,
Oh I would love it. Yeah, I would love it. But
it ain't as busy as that phoneor the iPad or all the other electronics

(00:46):
that that is. Yeah, Ilook back to some of my best memories
of playing Techmobile and RBI Baseball.I mean we used to have tournaments and
uh, I haven't played a videogame literally, that's not true. We
got a couple of Christmas ago. It's been probably five or six. Alex
wanted to get the Nintendo with allthe old school games, right, and

(01:07):
I've got pictures on my phone.I'd get him so pissed off. I
would run him off the screen playingtech bo. You know, I couldn't
be anything else. I can stillplay tech Mobil. Yeah. Absolutely.
We had fun. Man. Myfavorite though, was just playing pinball,
and I did pretty well for aguy who hadn't played in quite a long
time. Last time I played wasat the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
They've got all the rock and rollThey had display one time of all

(01:30):
the rock and roll pinball machines, and we went up there and we played
a bunch of those couple of yearsago. And that's about the last time
I played. But that was reallyenjoyable. I had a good time.
They had about five different ones.I think, well, I've looked forward
to coming in here today. Iget to sprint out of here to high
school girls basketball at home. It'smy wife set it up as a teacher
appreciation or faculty appreciation night. Soget to go watch our senior daughter walk

(01:53):
Miss Laura Grover that listens to theshow every week across the floor in appreciation,
so I got to be there totake pictures. But you know,
you and I were talking off air. I mean it, Paul. I
look forward to this every week. And we're getting close to the end of
year five, which is nuts tome. But a few things. We're
in the midst of the end ofa college coaching carousel. Kind of towards

(02:15):
the end of that is those BlackMondays start happening in late October and November.
Place jobs are getting filled. Butwe're getting ready to see the NFL
college coaching carousel begin as we expectto happen every year, four or five
six jobs. You got to thinkright now, what college coaches are living.

(02:36):
You got guys leaving in the portal, some that you're not happy that
are some that you are happy thatthey they are leaving, some you're not.
Then you've got to recruit the portal. So we got guys coming in.
You're on the road recruiting. Probablyget a few calls here. Maybe
while we're on there, we mayeven put them on air with some friends
of mine that had called and Ididn't get a chance to answer. Official

(03:00):
visit weekends, you really got thelast one coming up before the early signing
period, which is next week nextWednesday, like the twentieth. Then you're
dealing with eligibility of current players onyour roster because you're in the midst of
finals this week. And then you'redoing bowl prep. You're trying to prepare
to win a game to go playin a bowl game which starts tomorrow or

(03:23):
Saturday Saturday, and then you getto go practice and practice play. I
mean, it is crazy. AndI will just tell my friends that listen,
Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas to youin your crazy world. And then
you look, Paul, right now, we've got college hoops when I'm starting
to heat up on because of thefootball season's coming to the bowl season.

(03:43):
You got Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Thursday NFL games. Bowl season
is upon us forty one of them, two semi finals and a Nattie.
And I'm not talking about the ColdCon. We're talking about the championship.
And then we see a couple otherthings, Paul, before we get into
the last week's special game. Isthe portal is crazy to me? I

(04:08):
just got told earlier it looks likemaybe Nebraska has flipped Rayoli from Georgia.
Yeah, and isn't his dad andassistant coach Uncle? I believe uncle.
And then who was supposedly going toNebraska was the guy that played a quarterback
for the Buckeye is Kyle McCord.I was just told, and I know

(04:28):
you stay on top of this stuff. Now it looks like he may be
heading to Syracuse possibly so, buthow about Malik Murphy. Yeah, you're
in the final four at Texas. He started two games this year when yours
was out injured after that Alabama game, and he was a heavily recruited player.
He's going to be right now,I can promise you. I saw

(04:49):
a lineup of six or seven schoolsthat look like are his probable options.
But right now you also have this, I mean think about that. What
if something happens to yours in thesemi finals? Right absolutely? I mean
you got arch Manning, but Imean, but Murphy played well enough to
help them win when he clus. But you got this portal quarterback sweepstakes,

(05:13):
And it's like musical chairs. Themusic is about to end, and some
teams are not going to get whattheir Christmas wish is at that position.
And obviously we've seen what it's done. In the last couple of years to
positively favorite teams that have got themin the portal. I mean, we
just saw one win a Heisman andanother one's second team all. I mean,

(05:34):
we can go through the whole thing. Well three of them, actually
three of the four finalists were transferportal quarterbacks. The thing is that I
think look figured out. We gotApollo thirteen back to America. And it's
hard on admissions, but this transferportal window, where it is before these

(05:58):
bowl games and championships and disions beingmade. Just back it up till January.
Back back it up to January.Figured it out on campuses. Most
schools don't start back up until middleJanuary fifteenth, sixteenth, seventeenth like that.
And the last thing, Paul, you I want a response to this,
So did you watch the Kansas Citygame the Camps the Chiefs. I

(06:19):
did. I did now. Iwas befuddled now that that Travis Kelcey play
to Cadarius Tony correct was unreal. It was and that'll be starting to be
planned in games other than if you'vegot the guts to call, other than
at the end of a game likethat was a non play and play like

(06:40):
they're saying it was I've never seento play like that design unless it's at
the end of the game where you'reout. I mean, it's the last
play and you're lateral in it.You know, the Music City Miracle.
Uh, but what am I missing? The dude was off sides. Yeah,
not only standing off sides, hiswhole body was on the other side

(07:01):
of the ball. And Mahomes AndI love Patrick Mahomes. I mean,
well as we know he's special. But the reaction after the game on the
field, I can't believe they madea call. It was a penalty.
Yeah, I mean, what wereyour thoughts on that? One person?
I mean, I'm not on thefield to play. So when they talk
about how an official should tell youyou should check in with the official.

(07:23):
He checked in with the official. All of that stuff. Okay, great,
whatever whatever type of play you're lookingat doing. You know which,
I'm a huge baseball fan, andyou have the rules of baseball, and
then you have the standards of baseball. And if you don't do things by
the standards of baseball, some veteran'sgoing to teach you about it. It's

(07:44):
one way, shape or form.We know that, right. The unwritten
rules if you will, But hewas clearly off sides. There's no question
he was off sides. You couldn'teven see the football he was and his
body was blocking the football. No, I mean, it's football one I'm
talking about. If you're worth anythingcoaching a pee wee team, the receivers

(08:05):
understand. I can check with theofficials on every single snap to check my
alignment. But just the reaction is, I can't believe they called a penalty
a penalty was was mind blowing tome. I can't believe he went up
to the winning quarterback on the otherteam and that's all he talked about.
That to me, I thought wasreally a bizar that was. That was
upsetting to me. That was notgood. So, I mean, clearly

(08:26):
he was. He was emotional. He's tied in. If you're a Chiefs
fan, you can be proud ofthe fact that your quarterback wants to win
every time he goes out of youknow, and that's a good thing.
But there's also a time for that, and that was not the time and
place for that point. So hewent off. Man, he did know.
I watched that game. It wasYeah, it was odd, but
what a great play by Travis Kelcey. I mean, I'm pretty sure he

(08:50):
played quarterback at some point, likeat high school. What Cleveland Heights,
Yeah, yep, yeah, yeahyeah. And I think brothers planning on
winning the Super Bowl and retiring thisyear. But I'm just throwing that out
there, so if you're gonna placeyour bets on that, go ahead.
But I just feel like that's hisgoal, is big brother wants to win
the Super Bowl and then walk away, kind of like Andrew Whitworth kind of

(09:11):
a thing, right, Yeah,And I think Kelsey will probably do you
okay on the TV side like Whitworthas as well. He's pretty good,
so he'll be all right. Yeah, absolutely, But no, that was
that was frustrating. The other thingI wanted to mention to you is all
these Buckeye players that are really sayingthat they're committed to playing in the Cotton

(09:31):
Bowl, and Devin Brown coming outthis week and saying, yeah, obviously,
they said, you're the starter, this is your football team for this
game. Chance to prove a point. The portal's open until what the twentieth
of January, so he's got timeto make his decisions. He's getting an
opportunity a lot of key players aresaying, we're playing in the bowl game.

(09:52):
We're playing in the bowl game. We're playing in the bowl game.
I think that's encouraging it for collegefootball to see that happen, because we
I know there's gonna be a lotof forty one games. We're pretty sure
that thirty nine of them are goingto include guys that are like I'm out.
I'm pretty sure of the other two, which will end up being three.
With the national championship, they probablywill play. But those other thirty

(10:13):
nine games, they have a chanceto not play, and these guys want
to play. I love that.No, I think it's that's that is
a good sign. Again, Ithink there's a little bit of both of
guys wanting to leave, but guysbeing nudged to leave. Ye, and
roster management and culture fix you wouldrather hear. And I'm not beating up

(10:35):
on the guy. McCord's Colm McCord'sreaction after the Michigan game. It's just
a game, yeah, and DevinBrown have we're burning the ships. There's
a mindset and a mental toughness thatI think that shows. And I think
that's what I'm confident that Ohio Stateneeds more of that in that locker room,
and I think it's a good startto hear Marvin Harrison considering coming back.

(10:58):
I still don't think that'll happen. But these guys saying, hey,
yes, I'm playing in the game. I agree with you. I think
that's a positive sign. I agree. I think they want to go out
winners. They want to go outand fighting, and I just to me,
it makes that game way way moreinteresting than what some people are laying
out. But there are going tobe some great pol games and it's going

(11:20):
to be fun to see them. What else did you have on your list
that you wanted to hit on today? Man, Well, I want to
get into this Army Navy game. But there's a little piece to that before
we get started. So how doyou want to roll in the Army Navy?
Before I share something that's special tome, Well, I want to
talk about the game because once again, it went down to the last play,
and the thing that always comes trueduring Army Navy is the toughness of

(11:45):
these two teams. Seventeen to eleventhe final they battled, they battled,
they battled. The crowd was init, people were watching. I haven't
seen the TV numbers, but Iknow they're probably way better than Army and
Navy's football teams. I mean,it's just it to me, it's an
opportunity to go. Yeah, andthat was a fun game. Two of

(12:05):
my favorite games I ever got tocoach in as I did get we played
a game at West Point and weplayed a game at Annapolis. But what
I wanted to hit on first, what was really cool with this game being
Injellette Stadium in New England is I'msure you saw it. Bill Belichick was
the guest on College Game Day anda lot of that had to do with

(12:26):
Steve Belichick, and Steve Belichick wasa mentor to me very close. I
cried like a baby when I gota call from Dean P's after a Patriots
game on a Sundays to let meknow because Dean is the one that introduced
Steve and I and many many drinksand meals and Steve and Jeannette's home.

(12:50):
Bill's parents there in Annapolis about onceevery month when I was on the road
out there, I would take himout to eat. And Steve was really
really good to me. Thirty fouryears he coached at Navy and Bill got
to watch all of those years ofthe coaches coming and going through there,
and it was kind of a coolgo back with Lee Corso. Oh,

(13:13):
you know, as much as asmuch as you dislikes, you know,
college game day and everything like that, you had the emotion of Courso and
how he was in the fields andeverything about it in that video, and
you know, that was really coolthat. I've got really funny stories and
I've got really emotional stories. Ijust want to share a couple about Steve

(13:35):
Belichick was special, extremely intelligent, and Bill is Steve very much so.
And Coach Belichick. When I saycoach, I'm talking about Steve, I'll
never forget. We were playing atAnnapolis, Coach came over to visit with
our team when I was at KentState in the Friday night walk through.
Well, then I go up intothe booth. Well, Coach Belichick was

(13:56):
an icon on that campus. Andhe he watched every game from the booth,
you know, and he's in hiseighties. Yeah, and he comes
over and nudges me, Jesus Christ, you're gonna eat every hot dog in
this place. But he had aknack more than anybody I've ever known to
see the most simple thing that youwould probably see as complex. He was

(14:20):
famous as a scout, but hewas famous at coaching a punter and a
kicker, reveled by many as thebest punting coach in his tire coaching career.
So I'll never forget it. Oneday I said, coach, I'd
like to spend some time with you, and I want you to teach me
how to punt. So we're atan AFCA convention, I think that year

(14:41):
we may have been in Louisville. He goes, come on, let's go,
and it says Belichick on his lanyard. You know. So we go
to the floor, the display floor. He goes to Wilson, he grabs
a ball. He goes, youmind if I use this, No coach
you. He takes me back tohis hotel room and teaches me how to

(15:05):
punt and coach a punter in ahotel room for over an hour and a
half. That's how much detail. But when I say he would say little
things, You're like, why thehell would I never think about that?
Never let your punter practice punting withthe wind at his back. I bet
you coach your punter like, youhit golf balls on the rain. You
probably don't even have a damn target. You're just hitting balls. He goes,
they got to have a target.Put down a towel. And he

(15:30):
said something to me one day,he goes, I've never understood it.
I've never understood it. He goes, Why the hell do teams not use
two punters? He goes, yougot the guy that can kick at the
farthest, but when you're on theforty eight plus forty yard line, it's
fourth and ten, you got apun it. Why don't you have a
punter that can pund it the mostthirty to thirty five yards? And I'm

(15:50):
thinking that's pretty smart, it's agenius. But I'm telling you, Paul
is a good friend. The amountof wisdom that I got about just little
stuff like that all the time. And you're like, why the hell would
I not think about that? Right? And Bill has that he does.
I know he's going through a toughtime, tough year, this and that,
but anyway, I want to sharethat. So back to this Army

(16:12):
Navy game. You know, ifyou heard coach Monkin say it and Coach
Newberry say it, I think theyboth said it. You'd rather go one
in ten or one in eleven andwin that game than go eleven and one
and lose that game. That's unbelievable. But anyway, Army's got the fourteen
point lead, that key fourth quarterstrip sacked by linebacker Caleb Fordner. You

(16:33):
know, they get up fourteen, but it's like coach Monkin said after the
game, they're never out of it. If you remember, I think the
previous year it was two overtimes.Yeah, but Taylor tite levaate tie comes
in as the backup almost gets Navyback with a chance to tie it.
That incredible stop on the goal linewith three seconds left. Didn't have a
time out to stop it, sothey got to hurry up and get in

(16:56):
there and try to push. Theydon't get in Army takes the safety.
But really the key to the game, Army wins the rushing battle. So
typically if you win the rushing battleon that game, you're gonna win it
because the style of play two fiveto one thirty and as always, Army
doesn't turn it over. Navy turnsit over twice. Huge difference in the
game. But how about Jeff Munkin'spostgame locker room. I mean, did

(17:21):
you not want to run through yourTV screen? Oh? I know that,
guys so well, he's three four. He gets it, you know
when he says, you know, one in eleven versus eleven to one,
what's the game you win? What'sthe game you lose? I mean,
he's absolutely he gets it, whichis why he should be there for as
long as he wants to be there. Yeah, he's got the super record.

(17:44):
The I mean, it's the samething that the Buckeye fans are upset
with three straight tolt Michigan. Yeah, you just that. That's it means
the world to people across the world, the fight to keep this world at
peace, and it's it's it's it'sjust special. It was fun. It
was a fun game to watch ina fun game two to kind of get
into it. We talked about thepageantry last week. It's just it's amazing.
If you watch that game and youdon't get the fields, maybe you

(18:07):
need to, you know, shipout because it's this ain't for you.
Coach. Let's talk a little bitabout some of the games that are coming
up this weekend. We will doour Bowl previews every Thursday for the next
couple of weeks, and obviously thegames this week are a lot of teams
that are just happy to be there, and so we're not going to spend
a whole lot of time with them, but we certainly want to introduce you
to them because if you do wantto watch some good college football, these

(18:30):
should all be fairly competitive games. And the first one coming up at eleven
o'clock on Saturday morning is the MyrtleBeach Bowl, which features Georgia Southern and
OU. Yeah, Paul, onething the fan needs to understand why it's
so important to get I mean, there's forty one bowl games to Semis and
Natty, but this is part Aof spring practice. You get these extra

(18:55):
practices, you get nine, right, is that right? I don't know
if that number. It could benine, but a lot of it depends
on where you start when you play. But the thing is that this is
spring ball Part A or part one. So you're getting guys reps because that's
the most important thing is reps.Well we got this Myrtle Beach Bowl.

(19:18):
We can go to that one.Oh yeah, heck yeah. ESPN This
Saturday eleven am, you've got ClayHelton six and six Georgia Southern. And
here's one thing I really like topay attention to are the results success or
lack of for each conference. Soeach one of these games, you got
Georgia Southern from the Sun Belt playingthe Ohio Bobcats from the mac Sitting there

(19:44):
at nine and three. Georgia Southernstubs are toe losing their last four unbelievably.
Georgia Southern, one of the worstin the country, is a minus
twenty six in turnovers and that hasa big reason why they had to fall
off at the end of the year. They've been giving up a lot of
poor points. Ohio University has wontheir last three, They've won four out

(20:04):
of five. We know Curtis Rourke, if he's healthy, makes a difference
at quarterback. Still a little surprisedGeorgia Southern is there as a three and
a half point favorite, But thebalance with OU's run game, with running
back ca ban Gura, and withRourke. You know, I don't make
picks, but I am a littlebit surprised that Georgia Southern is a three

(20:26):
and a half point favorite in thisgame. Yeah, I did my picks
today on the Bowl Challenge deal, and I took Ohio University in this game.
I like him. I think theMAC is a really, really tough
deal. And the quarterbacks in theMAC for the last several years have been
so good man, I mean reallyhave been fun to watch. If you
like offense and you'll like some goodfootball, man, you'll enjoy that game.

(20:47):
So let's move on to the NewOrleans Bawl. That is also Saturday,
two fifteen in the afternoon, JacksonvilleState against the Louisiana Yeah, you
got. Rich Rod's team gets togo into the bowl. They're sitting there
at eight and four from Conference USA. Louisiana Billy Napier's former team sitting there
at six and six out of theSun Belt. Jacksonville State's two and a

(21:07):
half point favorite. You look attrends, Jacksonville State's lost two of their
last three. Well, you lookover at Louisiana, they've lost three of
their last four. But dual threatquarterback Zion Web twenty eight hundred rushing yards
between him, Malik Jackson and warLewis. I'm talking about Jacksonville State.
Rich Rod's always been able to runthe ball out of spread, and they're

(21:30):
able to do it again. Thisyear. My question is for Louisiana,
is Xeon Chris their quarterback healthy, because if he is, he's tough as
a dual threat. Guy. Yeah, I get it, I get it.
This game here I'm looking forward to. Also Saturday three thirty the Cure
Bowl, Miami of Ohio take onan Appalachian State. Of course, Miami
of Ohio wins that the MAC Championshipand Happy State played well towards end.

(21:52):
Does that mean the Cure singing atthis bowl? Heidy, I'd be there.
Yeah, I'm there. Yeah, three thirty in Orlando. You got
the fighting Chuck Mars, the MACChamps, the Miami Redskins, the Red
Hawks. They play outstanding on thedefensive side of the ball. That's what
carried them this year. The MACChamps taking on the eight and five Sunbelt
Appy State. Appy State sitting rightthere at a six and a half seven

(22:15):
point favorite. It's a low overunder people expect both. Appy State rolled
off five straight and if you haven'twatched him play, Joey Aguilar has nearly
four thousand total offensive yards between passand run at quarterback for Appy State.
This is actually one of my favoritegames that I'm most looking forward to to

(22:37):
watching this weekend. I get it. I know you're also looking forward to
New Mexico State taking on Fresno Statein the New Mexico Bowl. That's at
five point forty five Saturday. NewMexico State, what a turnaround, man,
Yeah, the New Mexico Bowl andAlbuquerque. If you're not familiar,
you know, I go to NewMexico State and spend time with Doug Martin
and his family when he was there. It's the desert. Yeah, you're

(22:57):
at the border. Turkey's higher elevation, you got some mountains. But New
Mexico State is playing in state inAlbuquerque, sitting there at ten and four
from Conference USA taking on the MountainWest Fresno State Bulldogs sitting there at eight
and four. Again trends, NewMexico State is a three and a half

(23:18):
point favorite. They are eight andone in their last nine games, eight
and one. New Mexico State's defensiveimprovements have been really, really good.
That's why they've got that thing turnedaround. But you got Fresno State.
Paul at one point was sitting ateight and one and have lost their last
three to get to eight and four. And also Jeff Tedford about two weeks

(23:41):
ago. He is out with somehealth problems, so coach Tedford won't be
on the sideline for the game, and I hope he gets better. The
LA Bawl should be good. Seventhirty. It's a marquee game UCLA and
Boise State. Yeah, Sophie Stadium. The question about this game, you've
alluded to it a lot of thesegames are opt outs. Who's went in

(24:03):
the portal so they're not playing who'sopting out because they're going to the league.
And that makes it if you betcollege bowl games, you may want
to get some help. Absolutely.I mean, you just never know.
Go bet basketball. If you liketo bet, go bet the NFL because
you don't know. And here's thething, you know, there was a

(24:26):
lot of smoke around UCLA and ShipKelly at the end of the year that
maybe his time there had run out. And they lost three of their last
four games, and one of thosewas the last game that they got spanked
pretty good by Cal and the optouts. Dante Moore is not playing quarterback
for UCLA because he's in the portal. But you look at the resurgence of

(24:47):
Boise State at the end of theyear, getting from five and five to
eight and five. Actually I thinkyeah, five and five to eight and
five. Spencer Danielson that took overthe interim is named the permanent new head
football coach. And again we lookat trends. Boise State's won last four
and their last game was a dominatingwin over UNLV in the Mountain West.

(25:08):
So yeah, we got the PACtwelve in the Mountain West. UCLA is
a four point favorite. Chip Kellyneeds this win going into the offseason.
I get that that should be afalling seven point thirty on Saturday night.
The Independence Ball is this weekend.Nine to forty five. California is taking
on Texas Tech. I've been tothe Independence Poll there in Shreveport, Louisiana.

(25:30):
A late night game that'll get mein trouble at home when I have
the kickoffs at nine point fifteen, but we'll have to deal with it.
Six and six out of the Packtwelve, Cow taking on the Texas Tech
Red Raiders. Six and six outof the Big twelve. Texas Tech bet
much better second half of the season. They were people, including mine,
a possible darling preseason in the PACtwelve. A disappointing start they kind of

(25:53):
go as their quarterback Baron Morton playedin the second half of the season.
If he shows up, they'll havea chance and maybe they are the three
point favorite in the game. ButCAW again trends one to three straight.
That last win a big one overUCLA by twenty six points. There's a
quick math for you. And thenrunning back Jaden Ott if you haven't watched

(26:17):
him, he averages five and ahalf yards of touch twelve hundred yards.
But is what's the situation for quarterbackat cal Is he healthy? We don't
know, But anyway, I lookforward to this one. But again,
both teams trending upward at the endof the year. I get it.
Then Monday you get a rare afternoon game. I think that's because you're
not allowed to compete with Monday nightfootball. The famous Toastery Bowl Western Kentucky

(26:42):
takes on old dominion I for likeoffense. You might want to try and
check that game out. I don'tknow how famous it is because I've never
heard of Toastery right, but nodisrespect Monday December eighteenth, two thirty pm.
Maybe we can get it on theTV. In the back, come
and troo. But you got aConference USA WKU hill Toppers sitting there at

(27:04):
seven and five taking on Old FoxOld Dominion that's in the sun Belt where
WKU was when I was there. We win the Sun Belt. Old Dominion
can be tough. They're a twoand a half point favorite. If you
haven't watched Buckeye fans, you shutthem down. But Austin Reid and the
coach Hilton the air raid. Theylike to throw the ball around. But

(27:25):
the question for WKU has been thesame thing really since even before the season
started. How good could they beon defense? And that's where they struggle
on that side of the ball.Last two games for Old Dominion were wins
over Georgia Southern and Georgia State. My question is can they score enough and
take care of the ball because theytend to give it away too, and
both teams tend to do that isturn it over all right, Well,
we'll see what happens. On Monday. Tuesday night, we have a game

(27:48):
the Frisco Ball features UTSA taken onMarshall and u TSA. I guess is
a big favorite in that game.Yes they are. You know, I've
been to this facility. It's prettycool there in Frisco Jinx. It's another
one of Jerry's play toys and itgives us something to do. Tuesday night,

(28:08):
Paul at nine o'clock the American AthleticConference UTSA road Runners sitting there at
eight and four against the Sunbelt MarshallThundering Herds six and six. Yeah.
UTSA is a big favorite for abowl game, sitting there at thirteen points.
They've won seven of their last eight. If you haven't watched quarterback Frank
Harris play, If he plays, they average thirty two points a game.

(28:30):
They do a great job coaching offense, and they have their at UTSA Marshall.
They've had their struggles this year, especially on the back end. They
started four to oher they end upsix and six offensively, where a lot
of troubles have had. They've hadstaff changes since since the last game before
this bowl game. If you haven'twatched him, running back rasheen i Li

(28:53):
eleven hundred yards has been the brightspot for that offense, but before between
Cam Fanscher and Cole Pennington, thetwo quarterbacks for Marshall, seventeen interceptions this
year. Again, I don't likemaking picks, but this is one game.
I really do like the favorite UTSA. Yeah, well we'll see what
happens. Hopefully Marshall can get theball so they can hold onto the ball

(29:15):
and stay in that game a littlebit longer because I think Pennington's it's just
fun to watch. So anyway, coach, let's move on. Let's talk
a little bit about to Win theDay award before we move on to some
other stuff with the show. Andthere was a lot to watch last weekend,
obviously when you look at the NFL, you look at the Army Navy
game, you look at so manythings going on with the portal, and

(29:37):
of course college basketball, there's alot of folks that are opportunity to win
the day. And then of courseyou've got the Lakers. I mean they
win the end season tournament that noone knows or cares about. Hey,
you know what, Paul, I'mpositive, Pete, I've got some things
here that we're going to laugh at. That's funny that are deservingly nominees for

(30:00):
when the day, when you've mademillions or billions of dollars in this country,
stand up for the freaking a manthe national anthem. I mean,
really, this country has given youthe opportunity to do that. If you
don't like it, go leave, stand up for the national anthem. I

(30:22):
don't care who you are. Thatthat was beyond disappointing, but I will
I will move forward. So whenthe day you know this one's kind of
cool, you're kind of like,do you get an extension at six and
six at Ohio State or probably not? But Greg Sheiano in his second tour
in a very very very difficult job. We watch how they play, They

(30:45):
play hard. They had the mostplayers they've ever had that have made All
Big Ten, All Conference on thisteam they finished six and six, given
an extension of going from four millionto six point twenty five next year,
the extension now through twenty thirty. They've had good times with Greg Ciano,

(31:06):
They've had bad times in between, and they've got better times with Greg Siano.
So he's a nominee. How aboutplayers that were named in the last
couple of days to the AP AllAmericans love that. That's good. There's
there's a consensus. It's pretty funto watch. Yeah, Jaden Daniels,
Oli, Gordon Cody Schrader there inthe backfield at quarterback, running back.
I won't go through all that. No, I gotta give Joe Old at

(31:29):
Notre Dame FASHIONU out of Penn Stateat tackle, BB Cooper bb Zack Zenter
out of Kansas State and Michigan andcenter Jackson Powers Johnson out of Oregon.
You probably guess brock Bauers his firstteam All American at tight end? Would
you like to line up with thesethree on Sunday? Malik Neighbors, Marvin
Harrison Junior and Rome of Doonsay onthe perimeter? Now, who do you

(31:49):
you cut? Right? This guycan go out there to Travis Hunter as
the all purpose player and the kickerfrom the Mac Graham Nicholson in Miami of
Ohio. Doesn't happen very often youget a first team All American out of
the Mid American compece. Well, there's only one other guy that had more
yards kicking, and you know whohe plays for. Ye don't get it.

(32:12):
We got lay it to La tufifth year, the first team edge
defensive player for UCLA, Jalen Greenout of JMU. Out of JMU,
there's another power or group of five. Then you look on the interior.
You got to Vandre Sweat, whichwe'll get to play watch play for Texas
Jerson Newton out of Illinois. There'sone for the Big Ten defensive backs Terry

(32:36):
and Arnold out of Alabama. I'mmissing one. And then you've got oh
punter, the one and only ToryTaylor well deserved out of Iowa. Then
just some quick names, Penni Scott, second quarterback, Idric esta May one
of the second team running backs.I'm trying to see if I'm missing any

(32:58):
of the guys from the Big Enterthe Buckeyes. But no, it's cool.
There's nominees for win the Day.How about this guy? You think
he won the day? Listen,Money's overrated. Money's overrated. I make
a lot of money. I don'tneed more money. Six hundred million,

(33:20):
seven hundred million, Oh not yet? Ye yeah, okay. Mister John
Rahm says I died. I doto live golf in the Saudiast and Greg
Norman had a big cheese on hisface and an interview I saw so but
you beat me to the punch. We got one that says, hold my
beer, I got seven hundred millioncoming showhy a Tani seven hundred million?

(33:46):
Is it guaranteed? It is guaranteed. They're going to pay him till he's
sixty years old for the LA Dodgers. That one was hard. How about
golf fans this weekend to watch thePNC champion father and son and get to
see Tiger Woods play golf with hisson Charlie and real quick rundown. Any
of these could have won his NFLThe Cowboys taking down Philly Cowboys look a

(34:07):
little different. Even Stephen A saidthat absolutely Bill's take down KC in that
crazy game. But how about theSan Francisco forty nine ers five straight Rock
Purty twenty five touchdowns to seven It's this year, Paul, But actually,
my favorite story so far in theNFL is my son can begin to
smile what Kevin Stefanski has done withthe Cleveland Browns with no Nick Chubb playing

(34:32):
with their fourth quarterback, a guythey bring out a retirement and they're sitting
there at eight and five, Paul, in my opinion, coach of the
year right now in the NFL.That's a huge job of managing. I
mean, just a wonderful job ofmanaging for Stefanski. Totally agree. And
you know Swartz coming there on defenseto relieve him because obviously he's been a

(34:52):
head coach in the NFL, andthose guys are playing and they're talented on
that side of the ball. Thelast runner up, Paul has to pretty
obvious is Jade and Daniels one ofthe Heisman Trophy. I mean, he's
got the keys to the Heisman Housefor the rest of his life, so
good for him. But the winnerI watched last night in disbelief, the

(35:15):
game that you and I talk aboutevery week for about four and a half
five months, that I've watched mywhole life, that's been part of my
life, in my livelihood, thatyou love will never be the same.
The winner is college football fans,ABCESPN, Disney Family of Networks, the

(35:36):
SEC. I mean they had permissmiles on their face last night. Yeah,
when they did the SEC reveal forthe schedule for next year. Paul,
I don't know how we'll be ableto contain ourselves. There's four or
five six games every week in collegefootball next year. I know that you're
like, that's never happened. Yeah, you usually get one or two weeks

(35:59):
where you got How can I getall these great games in and give them
the tension they deserve, Paul,We're gonna have struggles next week, next
year, year. I mean, and here's what I'll predict what college football
fans when I say it's changed forever. You can take this to the bank,
go go look at these schedules.Man, it is crazy. Poor

(36:20):
Billy nap here in the last fivegames, they might as well just say,
hey, Bud, we're pulling theplug. I mean, it's insane.
There will be three lost teams playingin the twelve team playoffs. I
agree. I mean, you're goingto have the best. They might be
a possibility of winning at all,no question. Yeah, I mean,
did you see Georgia. There's Imean, they got Oklahoma, they got

(36:44):
I think tex I mean every weekyou're like, man, these are great
matchups, and then you see,my god, they got to play the
next week. Alabama doesn't get amercer before Auburn and the Iron Bowl this
year. I think they play Oklahoma, then they play Auburn in the weekly.
But no, it's fantastic. Uh, the the ads to the Big

(37:06):
Ten, the non divisions, whichis a beautiful thing. No, it's
it to me. I got soexcited for the twenty twenty four season before
both season even kicked off. Intwenty twenty three because next year's college football
schedule, it is a college footballfans delight. Oh, it's gonna be
unbelievable. You talk all the timeabout and I've been preaching this to a

(37:30):
lot of people for a number ofyears, that the NFL's built, you
know, the build these teams tobe five hundred and they hope things go
their way. And uh. AndI was explaining that to a buddy of
mine who said, just I can'tbelieve you know the gauntlet that these really
good teams have to run through. And I said, remember, they're taking
on the model of the NFL,where you're gonna you're gonna build a team

(37:52):
to be five hundred and if thingsgo your way, you're gonna win ten
games, but you're probably still gonnalose two or three. And it's going
to be an opportunity for you towin it all as a ten and three
or a nine to three football team, depending on how your season goes,
especially if you play well down towardsthe end. It'll be like last year
when we saw Yukon do what theydid in basketball. I mean that team

(38:15):
was average for the first three monthsof the season and then all of a
sudden became not only the best teamin the country, the national champion,
and they brought it into this season. You're going to see teams develop and
it's going to be really different. You'll also see fans that won't understand it
that their team can lose a gameor two and still win the national title.

(38:36):
That is going to be anes. It's changed. I mean, I
seriously, it really did not hitme until last night because as they can't
going through every SEC team and theirschedule, I'm thinking they're good enough to
be in the playoff and I'm seeingright now, if they got they got
four possible losses, right. Imean, I know that's so and so,

(38:58):
and they're freaking good. They're blueblood, but I see three or
four possible losses on every schedule andI'm like, dear lord man, But
hey, by the way, Connecticut, I watched them play last week.
He's got them rolling. He's doinga great job. He's a fantastic basketball
coach, and I think he's goingto be there for a long time.
He's a little cringey sometimes, wowyeah, but his kids play like his

(39:22):
personality. They play tough, andlike I said, I'm starting to get
it's starting to weave our way intojust not high school girls basketball, but
I'm starting to watch some college basketball. But I mean, this is why
I think everybody needs to enjoy thenext forty two games, you know,
forty one games, because at theend of the season, there's a good

(39:43):
chance we will have two undefeated Divisionone major college football teams and that ain't
never gonna happen again. It's done, This is it. This is your
last chance, more than likely tosee an undefeated team. You're gonna say,
oh no, no, no way, but time out, no go
back the Dolphins, the seventy twoDolphins. Man, yeah, can is
it ever gonna happen again? Wedon't know. Can we key up the

(40:06):
last dance? Because we are watchingthe last dance? We are there's your
question, You're you're I mean,it can happen, but the chances of
it happening with the way things havebeen restructured is the last thing I'll say
is it is the O Show.I do agree, And we may have
said this last week on the show. The the game being played, the

(40:28):
last game of the season in thenew Big Ten, it's almost like,
now you're kind of because those daysare over. Yeah, those days are
over because they could play the verynext week again against each other. And
to me, and I've had otherpeople say it, and I'm kind of
agreeing, that's not real attractive tome to play the same team back to
back is it'll be strange. Butyou wonder if they'll have a discussion to

(40:52):
move the game up because the likelihoodof those two teams still being at or
near the top of the leg everyyear is can we play that game in
week six or seven? Yeah,we did talk about it, because we
talked about Oregon and Washington absolutely playingWeek six, and then they played in
week thirteen or the thirteenth game, and there was good separation and you didn't
get to see those games back toback. I believe only if because I

(41:15):
think they're committed to Ohio State andMichigan playing that last weekend of November.
I think they're committed to that. But I think if you see those two
teams play each other the next weekone or two more time, you know,
then that's gonna change. They're gonnabe like, we can't do this,
but remember what's happening in the bigten Oregon, Washington, USC,

(41:37):
UCLA, you know, think aboutthis. If Ohio State hadn't have beaten
Penn State, if they'd have lostthat game for whatever reason, they still
wouldn't have been in it. Itstill would have been Iowa and Michigan.
Ohio State loses to Penn State andthen turn around and loud to Michigan.
They're not playing in the championship game. And what next year's playing. It's

(41:59):
still Iowa. So you know,so you've got to look at it that
way. And the other thing thatI love about the Big Ten is that
every if you stay, if youstay and you play four years of college
football, you play every team homeand away in the Big Ten. I
think that's awesome. It is cool. And yeah, real quick, you
think next year. I mean we'relooking ahead before and we'll be talking more

(42:20):
football as football gets played this weekend. We preview next week, but you
look ahead to next year. Iwas going to have a new offensive coordinator.
Yeah, so there'll be an improvement. It looks like they're starting to
make a move in a positive waywith roster restruction, reconstruction, whatever you
want to call it. A Nebraskayou've got year two with coach Fickle.

(42:45):
I think Wisconsin's going to have aquarterback Tyler Van Dyke. Yeah, it
sounds like Tyler Van Dyke's going there. You know, Penn State's not going
away. And then yeah, youadd Lincoln Riley, who is making the
wholesale changes on defense because he hadtwo Chip Kelly coaching for his life.
Next year in the Big Ten atUCLA, you've got two that arguably were

(43:07):
one of the best four teams allyear in Oregon in Washington. I mean,
it's it is it must see TV. Well, Michigan schedule next year
is a gauntlet as easy as peoplelooked at Michigan schedule this year, ninety
more kids. I mean they playthey play USC in September, so I
mean they're gonna have a game inSeptember, October, and November. And

(43:30):
oh, by the way, theyalso have They've also got Wisconsin on their
schedule next year, and of coursePenn State. So they've got Ohio State,
Penn State. USC. I believethat they go on the road to
Iowa and so does Ohio State. They've got a schedule next year. What
guys do too, Hey, youremember last year we're going to Oregon.
Couple, here's a twenty twenty three, twenty twenty four season prediction. There

(43:52):
is one team that I kept lookingat last night in the SEC that seemed
to have a little bit easier roadbecause of who they played at home against
who they played away. And maybesomebody really likes Slam Kiffin in the SEC,
Greg Zankee. I don't know, but it seemed that they had a
more favorable schedule than most. Yeah, Florida not so much. No,

(44:14):
No, that said that last fivegames the month of November is not going
to be good to the Gators oftheir fans. Coach, great stuff.
Anything else you wanted to add todaybefore we get some good games this weekend.
No, I want you to gohave a great weekend. I'm hoping
that for a girls' high school wintonight, so I have a decent evening
at home after the game. Andyeah, we've got some other business to

(44:36):
take the game tonight. Why doI not know that Raiders and Chargers.
I think, oh that's a goodone. Yeah they hate each other.
Yeah, so I'll be in ahurry to get home after hopefully a girls
high school win, to watch onPrime the Thursday night game. Because the
Raiders have turned it around they have. I was telling my buddy last Saturday
or Sunday, he was at myhouse. We were watching that we were
watching that Bill's Chiefs games, andI said, do you realize that the

(45:00):
Chiefs and the Broncos when they usedto play each other when I was a
kid, it was a war onthe gridiron. They hated each other with
welcomes and the Chiefs hate each otherwhen we were kids. Man, Yeah,
the tonight's a little tough on me. I've got two friends on the
Raiders staff, one's a former player, and then I've got two friends on
the Charger staff, and one ofthem is a former player, and both

(45:22):
the Chargers have some real heat.Yeah, and obviously we're playing without Josh
McDaniel already with the Raiders, sothere's some obviously pressure there. So hey,
guys, I know it looks gloriouswhen you watch football games of being
the headball coach or on the staff. Lots of pressures, endless pressure,

(45:43):
a lot of pressure. Good stuff, coach, enjoy the game, Good
luck with your pleasant spacemans this weekend, and we'll see you back again next
week. Enjoy the games this weekend. And I think if you want to
get into ESPN's bull Mania, yougot to get it done by midnight tonight.
I did mine a little bit earlier, just for some funzies and joined
in with about five other buddies, and I told them today I'm going to

(46:04):
beat them all. Hey, ifyou're just finding The Oh Show on iHeartRadio,
