Welcome into the Oh Show on iHeartRadioalong with Coach AJ Pratt. My name
is Paul James. Coach. What'sgoing on? Man? Would you listen
to on your way out? GreatPaul James, you have some boo Blay
on your way I was gonna Iwas gonna have a boombox with boot Blaye.
When you walked in, I justI just like I'm not bringing it.
Yeah, I'm truly in the Christmasspirit, Paul, because my wife
and I every year for now twentyfour straight years, we take an evening

(00:24):
to go away and stay and goout for a nice dinner and then stayed
evening and shop the entire next day, which we did, and Easton was
looking nice. It really was sharp, had a little PF Chang's nice and
then got to hear a lot ofChristmas music. How was your week?

(00:45):
To tell you what? We wentto Christmas at the Palace. My wife's
birthday is always right at Thanksgiving,so I always buy tickets for Christmas at
the Palace. We don't buy eachother things anymore. We buy experiences and
it's one of the most enjoyable days. It's the same deal we we get
up in the morning, and wedo we help with a fundraiser, not
a fundraiser but a community service projectwhere you bring meals to some seniors and

(01:10):
stuff in the club that I'm in. And then and then we usually go
to lunch and then we go tothe show and then go see Christmas lights
and stuff. Same type of deal. Just take the whole day and it
is become really a neat time forus. So yeah, so I left
Christmas at the Palace Sunday and Iwas you know, the talent is pubelievable.

(01:30):
Hey, people need to know thisabout you. You're a friend,
but a great couple, great family. You are a celebrity in Marion,
Ohio. I mean, you knoweverybody and everybody knows you. How many
years have you been here doing radio? And I moved here in nineteen ninety
Yeah, my wife and I gotmarried and moved here. And now that's
a while. It's a long time, and especially with you only being forty

(01:52):
two years old. Right, man, my friend Ay met but friends from
all over the country and people reachout to me and they think you do
a great job. And now, right, thank you. I appreciate that
real quick. I can't believe this, but I'm about forty oh less than
that, less than forty eight hoursaway. We will have a college graduate.

(02:13):
Our son, Alex graduates Saturday,so that's cool gratulation. Obviously,
I'm in the midst of girls highschool hoops, proud of my wife's starting
at five and zer and our daughterand her friends and team and staff.
I'll just leave this real short.Excuse me. Maybe God said don't say
it, and that's why I justdid that. Lebron, I really don't
want to hear your gun and firearmcomments. I really don't thank you.

(02:36):
Cotton Bowl this week Keiths the Texasand Oklahoma the Red River River Shootout rivalry
through twenty thirty six, which ispretty cool. But as you and I
and Eric were speaking outside Paul, the transfer portal, it's crazy. Since
September one, I believe September fourth, roughly forty five hundred players of the

(03:00):
portal. Wow. About twelve hundredentered on Monday day one, and now
it's about two to three hundred aday since going through this week that you
got guys jumping in and for thefirst time, really the Buckeye fans are
seeing the portal, and I thinkit's a little bit of both. Yea,

(03:21):
as we talked earlier, it's mayberoster management that you've seen at other
places, but yeah, Chip trainthem Fleming, Kay Stokes, Jai Air
Brown, Cam Martinez, Evan pryorKyle McCord, and it's it's pretty uh

(03:42):
significant this year for the buck Eyes. Any thoughts on that before we get
wronged, Well, I'll tell youwhat my biggest thought is. And I
saw a lot of articles this weektalking about how, you know, the
portal is changing the way you recruithigh school players, and that's that to
me is really a shame that that'schanging the way you recruit high school players

(04:05):
and that that's a thing that kindof bothers me. I mean, we're
going to see how it plays out, because, like you said, the
guardrails are gonna come up eventually, they have to whatever they might be,
maybe the Jim Harbaugh thing that he'sbeen touting and you know, some of
those different things. But it's kindof a maybe a bit of a disservice

(04:26):
to the high school kids because theyalmost know now when you go to a
school, you're gonna end up transferringif you're not a starter by the time
you're, you know, in yoursecond year at that school. I mean
it almost seems that way, right. There's good points and bad points,
and we maybe that's another topic fornext show going into the bowls, right,

(04:46):
yeah, I mean this week,Charlie Baker, the new president of
the NC Double AYE trying to bemore proactive, which that word never goes
in front of NC double A.He's maybe attempting. And then the last
thing, Paul is I'm sure it'llcome up next week that we continue to
see now on the flip side, some rumor or whatever it is that Marvin
Harrison Junior actually could come back withan opportunity to win the conference and beat

(05:12):
the team up north and Trevion maybewanting to do the same thing correct And
then but the other one is iswhat we were already seeing with opt outs.
Right, You're not going to seeopt outs in the final four,
but you're going to see a lotof opt outs, and we've already started
to see some of those. Well, I think that's one of the things
that changes when you have the twelve. You may not see them. When

(05:32):
we go to the twelve, you'renot going to see the opt outs.
Obviously, as we are with someof those, but you know, you
got to look at it from bothsides of the coin. And we talked
about this last year, and I'msure next week we'll talk about a little
bit more because we'll hear about moreopt outs. I'm sure because I think
Ohio State's first official practice for theCotton Bowl is Saturday. I heard Ryan

(05:54):
Day say, so their first practicewill be Then that's when we'll start to
figure out who the quarterback is goingto be, who's going to play running
back, what it's going to be, and if Trevion's staying and all that
kind of jazz. But I justthink I'm not I get why they do
that, what they're doing, youknow, but it's just it's upsetting because
you've watched them play all season andyou'll hope you get one more game out

(06:15):
of them. But like I talkedabout a couple of weeks ago, and
enjoy Marvin Harrison while he still gothim because those days are probably less and
less. But if he comes back, maybe not, maybe we get to
watch him play for a whole otherseason and maybe to win a national title.
Well it's twofold, he says,it has nothing that money's not that
important to him, but too youcan come up within ile money. And

(06:39):
we've talked about this in the pastand the show, some of these fringe
quarterbacks raising their stock, coming backbecause they can get paid, and other
positions as well. But the lastthing, Paul, for those that have
not been involved, and it evenwasn't this crazy when I was coaching,
it's been the last four or fiveyears. It's got to this point.
Is this stretch of weeks right nowas a college coach, you are literally

(07:04):
running through hell with gasoline UNDERWEARLD becauseyou're dealing with the portal. So you're
trying to manage and re recruit yourteam and roster and re recruit that people
entering high school recruiting. You're onthe road, your kids have or are
going through finals on your current roster, and you're getting ready to have the

(07:24):
early signing day, which I thinkis December twentieth. So I got a
lot of friends right now, LikeI said, they're waiting to take a
breath, and that ain't gonna happenfor a a few weeks. And you're
getting ready for and you're preparing fora ball game, right so a lot
going on. Well, you talkabout Marvin saying that it's not about the
money. I firmly believe that istrue when it comes to his situation,

(07:44):
not just because of his mother andfather and how successful they are or whatever.
I think he's been taught to appreciatewhere you're at today, and I
think he wants to beat Michigan.I think he wants to win a national
title. I think he wants towhen he's all said and done, go
I've accomplished all this, you know. I think he's that kind of a

(08:05):
kid. That's why I firmly believethat this is a good possibility for him
to stay. And I think hisparents taught him that appreciate the life that
you have today, live in thepresent, and I think that's something he's
trying to do because he knows he'sgot that opportunity and there's ways for him
to protect his health and safety andback pocket and all that, and they

(08:26):
understand that. Well, I'll justsay this, if he decides to stay,
what a rare, rare, rarething to choose to do. And
it's a rarity for people because whatyou just said is probably right. I
appreciate where you're at today because thatdoesn't happen very often. It does not,
and it's it's exciting to see thathappen for a young man coach.

(08:46):
Let's talk about the CFP. It'sset. You've got Michigan, Washington,
Texas and Alabama. Of course,Michigan and Alabama will play the early game.
Texas and Washington will play the latergame, and that will be on
New Year's Day, so it's goingto be an interesting deal. And then
one week later the two winners willbattle for the national title. Your thoughts

(09:09):
on leaving out Florida State and thewhole look at things, Well, if
remember last week and I text you, I ain't homeless, right absolutely,
I said bet the house if Alabamabeats Georgia. That's why that committee had
Georgia gear on that they were notgoing to tell Nick Saban and Greg Sankie
the SEC ain't coming to this party. I did not think any way it
could happen. And you know, the committee is a committee. It's uh,

(09:35):
we won't go down to the MikeLeach thing. This is the last
year right now. Team thirteen andfourteen will be full of piss and vinegar
next year. Absolutely, But thedeal is the commit this committee could have
punted. Yeah, SEC fans theSoutheast, the heads would have exploded.

(09:56):
But they could have punted and said, look, we got four champions.
There's five champions. We got four. The team that went undefeated in the
ACC does not have a loss, should get in. But going back and
people say, well, the precedentsis the committee is different every year.
It's different people involved. It's notthe same folks in there every time.

(10:18):
So this is this year's committee.Florida State fans are going to be upset,
Paul, But I think they gotit right. I don't disagree with
you. They're not the same teamas they were with Jordan Travis. They're
not. I mean, it wasit was evident now they found other ways
to win. And I heard BurtBooger McFarland's argument when as soon as it

(10:39):
happened, it was wrong. Ifelt devastated and I can't imagine being on
that staff and let alone be thosekids. They got to feel horrible for
the kids in Florida State. Absolutely, you do. When they when they
showed Mike Norvell and just shock andjust dropped his head, You're thinking that
really really sucks because you've told thesekids, just keep win and it'll take

(11:00):
care of itself. Well it didn't, and for Travis to have the remark,
I wish I would have got injuredsooner and sad, really sad.
The only thing I will say aboutthis and we can move on, is
I do think the committee got thiswrong. If Alabama got in because they
beat the best team and the eyetest says they are one of the best

(11:24):
teams, why is Florida State rankedin front of Georgia? I agree one
percent. That's the only issue Ihave with the top ten. I think
Georgia should be five in Florida Statesix based on what they said. I
totally agree with you. Yeah,I mean I don't get that. That
was like, here's a runner uptrophy. Sorry, you didn't get in,
You're just one spot out. Well, they didn't get in because you

(11:46):
didn't think they were one of thebest four teams. Georgia was maybe still
one of the best four teams, and for Florida State to be ranked in
front of them. But some coolthings here, Paul. The group of
five, you know, the CollegeFootball Playoff, Liberty gets to go as
a group of five, just justsneaking in in front of a really good

(12:07):
red lashly SMU team. But yeah, resume committee, I test backup quarterback
Sankey Sabing effect. But my lastpiece on this, Paul two. It
was telling the reaction of the roomat Michigan when they announced who the fourth
team was, being Alabama and notFSU. There was a oh that to

(12:31):
me helped justify the decision. That'snot who they wanted to see. On
the other side, they don't wantto see Jaylen Milroe. They want to
see a backup quarterback because Jordan Travisis not coming back. My last little
bit on this, did the TCUeffect from the previous year have any effect
because the committee could not put ateam in there that gets boat raced the

(12:54):
way they did in that Georgia game. There's no way. See, I
don't think that was true because tsee, you made the title game.
They didn't lose into semis. Igo back to Cincinnati and I had this
argument with a friend of mine theother day and he told me I was
full of it, but I said, I don't believe it has anything to
do with TCU. I think they'regoing back to Cincinnati because I think everybody

(13:18):
thinks that Cincinnati had no right beingin there, and they were in there
and they got boat raced. Imean, it was an ugly game.
You watched it. No, Ithink they're going back to Cincinnati. Not
TCU won their semi final game. All of those things above could have affected
it, but no, in theend, I think other than Georgia,
but Georgia didn't win the conference. You've got the best four facing off in

(13:43):
the coll This is in my opinion, and since the CFP, this is
the best four because I think anyof the four can win it. Oh,
I agree, I totally agree, and I think you could throw two
more teams in there that could winit as well. But right now,
we have to deal with those topfour next year and say that there are
six, eight, ten eleven teams, because it will it'll be the top
eleven and then the group of fiveunless the group of five is already in

(14:09):
the top twelve, so Liberty wouldstill be in. They would be the
twelfth seed as that group of five, so they would be they would be
battling that way, So the topeleven are in plus that unless the you
know, one of the group offive teams happens to be in there.
Because they don't have to make thatgroup of five team the number twelve team
in the country, but they dohave to give them the number twelve seed

(14:31):
the way it's set up. Soit'll be interesting looking forward to all of
it. Looking forward to the bowlgames, there are some amazing ball matchups.
Next week, We're going to startdigging into the ball matchups and get
you ready for that. So realizenext week's episode, we're going to dig
in, especially on the first halfof the games, because there are some
really good ones going on just nextweekend, and I'm excited about those.

(14:52):
Let's talk about championship coach. ChampionshipWeek had some great games. Boy,
I tell you, if you misseda Championship Week, you we has some
fantastic football, including Liberty over NewMexico State forty nine thirty five. Obviously
they get the New York's the NewYear six game, but New Mexico State
is a really good football team andthere's a lot of Buckeye guys part of

(15:15):
that New Mexico State team. Right. Yeah, fourteen games season for the
Aggies and you get they get tothe ten wins, but they come up
short at Liberty. Jamie Chadwell's teamgets to thirteen to zero. Liberty rush
for three hundred and ninety three yardsin this game. Pretty good day on
the run with the run game. But how about he didn't make the nominees,

(15:37):
but he was closed. Caden Salttwenty twenty five, the quarterback for
Liberty three to nineteen, throw twelverushes for one hundred and sixty five yards,
rush, three total touchdowns, fourhundred and eighty four total yards.
Definitely up for Player of the Week. Yeah, Liberty wide receiver c Daniels

(15:58):
seven for one, fifty seven receivingand a touchdown. This thing was close
into the fourth quarter, but inNew Mexico State quarterback with a bad shoulder,
the Egga Pavia struggled a little biteleven of sixteen, one eighty eight
and three touchdowns. But a greatyear for year one for Jamie Chadwell at
Liberty. Absolutely the Pac twelve Championshiplast one ever. Washington beats Oregon thirty

(16:21):
four thirty one. It was anepic, instant classic. I still think
that was the best football game ofthe weekend. Well, because we only
have one game to really watch thisweekend, I'll probably get to watch that
another time it again. Yeah, but look, Washington gets it done thirty
four thirty one over Oregon in therematch. And it's a fact Washington came

(16:45):
in pissed off. They had alreadybeaten this team. They're double digit underdogs
to a team that they've already beaten. They heard it all week. They
had that fast start and then theyheld on. Washington up seventeen to three
in the second mid second quarter. Then you had the Knicks to tight end
Terrence Ferguson to get seventeen to ten. Oregon takes a twenty four to twenty

(17:07):
lead after the next run late inthe third quarter, and then Washington with
the drive early in the fourth quarter. It was back and forth. It
was the next Pinnock Show both teams. It was phenomenal. But the Huskies'
late conversions to get that game overwith without giving it back to Oregon was
a great, a big deal. The biggest difference in the game to lock

(17:32):
it up to get into the finalfour pall third down, Oregon was three
of ten on third down, andas I said, Washington kept getting conversions.
It was ten of fifteen on thirddown. Was the final difference probably
in that game. Yeah, Sowe move over to the Big Twelve,
where I'm pretty sure sark told hisfootball team, we got to make a
statement so we can be number threein the country. We got to go

(17:53):
out and do it. And bygolly, they did, Quinn, yours
was unbelievable. Texas runs past Oklahomato stay forty nine twenty one. Yeah,
this is the one you could turnand go somewhere else. I mean,
it was all Texas. Look, they're coaches that I really respect for
what they do. Steve Sarky's inis a terrific play caller and designer of

(18:15):
plays. The way he uses motions, how he gets one on one looks
with routes, I mean he is. He's fantastic. Yours, as you
said, with the fast start inthis last Big Twelve game for Texas,
but OSU rushed for thirty one yards. Oli Gordon's held to thirteen carries for

(18:38):
only thirty four yards. Oklahoma Statehas no chance when that happens. Texas
ran it for two hundred but yeah, you're your man. You were thirty
five of forty six four fifty twofour touchdowns. Again one of the best
performances of the weekend. The Hornsdominated third down, they dominated the line
of scrimmage, They dominated the game. The only dark spot I had a

(19:03):
buddy that said, why was hestill in the game as Xavier Worthy got
hurt late and you don't know theextent of that, because he is a
difference maker and they're going to want, they're going to need him to play
for them to be at their best. So hopefully he's back. Well,
we will see in the next coupleof weeks his health. How about Miami
of Ohio beating Toledo twenty three fourteen, the RedHawks with an automatic bull invite

(19:23):
in the trophy for the Mac ChuckMartin's defense. Yeah, and special teams
got block kicks, but look, hey, the Miami Redskins eleven and two,
they are the MAC champs. It'sbeen a while. They hold Penny
Boon to eleven carries for forty oneyards for Toledo. U team's team rush

(19:44):
was a total of ninety seven, didn't get to one hundred. Toledo was
going to have a tough time toKwan Finn was okay, but credit Miami's
defense. He was fifty percent fortwo seventy three, one touch, one
pick, but Miami ran it forone hundred and ninety seven, so you
got one hundred yards advantage. Bothteams did struggle on third down, but
as always, Miami zero turnovers Toledotwo, and they dominated the run game.

(20:11):
Miami did, so that's why they'rethe mac champ. Yep, there
you go, Boise State over UNLVforty four to twenty. Even with an
interim coach, Boise finds a wayto win the Mountain West intrim head football
coach Spencer Danielson one of the mostseriously I'm not going to say amazing,
but strangely remarkable stories that you couldfind in college football. Andy Avlos is

(20:34):
relieved of duties three weeks ago. They have now won three straight, which
includes a conference championship, now eightand five. With that forty four twenty
win over UNLV, quarterback Jaden myAva tough day for UNLV with the two
picks, outstanding defense by Boise Statethey hold Miami or UNLV to only eighty

(20:59):
one rushing yards and another stellar performanceby a quarterback Taylor Green four touchdowns to
twenty six pass one to fifty threerush. A lot of these games where
these quarterbacks are taken over and theywin the rushing battle three one to eighty
one. Pretty remarkable. Boise Statewins, the turnovers and the penalties.

(21:19):
Pretty dominant performance by the Broncos, now, no question about it. How
about the SEC title game? Alabamatwenty seven Georgia twenty four was a classic,
Man, it was awesome. Youknow, if Jamison Williams doesn't go
down, the chances are Nick sabanis six and zero and not five and

(21:40):
one against Georgia and Kirby. Thistwenty nine straight wins was brought to a
halt. One of the biggest playsof the weekend paul a five yard procedure
call against Georgia that backs up thekick and the angle would have been in

(22:00):
from five yards closer. It barelyknicks and knocks down a field goal in
a game that was won by threepoints by Alabama. The red zone offensive
fumble by Georgia giving the ball inthe red zone to Alabama was a huge
play. Injuries to Lad McConkie andRock Bowers I do think mattered somewhat in

(22:22):
the game. Two of their bestoffensive skill guys weren't one hundred percent,
But look, Alabama held Georgia toseventy eight rushing yards. Alabama won the
line of scrimmage. It's the firsttime we've seen them be dominant up front
offensively these past few games, aswe have the past few years in the
run game. And Jalen mill Roadat late first half and late second half

(22:47):
offense to ice it one turnover plusone to the Tide means the world.
But they were dead and buried. This team is no playoff worthy and coach
Saban the Goat is back in thefinal four. Yeah, can't wait looking
forward to those games. SMU twentysix to Lane fourteen. What was it

(23:11):
thirty six years ago? SMU gotthe death penalty? Was it thirty six
years ago? And here they are, Proram rebuilt, the Pony Express wins
the American man. Yeah again rttLashly, great job what he's done there
getting them to eleven and two.SMU twenty six over the number twenty two
ranked two lane Greenway fourteen. Notthe best day for Michael Pratt, who

(23:34):
was sacked seven times by that SMUdefense. The two lane offense rush for
thirty one yards. They were twoof fifteen offensively. Two lane was on
third down, So credit the defenseof the Ponies and SMU actually overcame three
turnovers, which doesn't happen very often. Kevin Jennings two hundred and seventy seventy

(23:56):
the quarterback two hundred and seventy yardsdespite having the two turnovers. But maybe
a little bit of shadow over thisgame, as it was rumored before before
the game was kicked off that WillieFritz was heading to Houston, and that
is what happened, right right,so new name, Uh we got to
kick a Camani Vadal five touchdowns ledTroy to the Sunbelt title. Man five

(24:19):
tdves in a championship game. That'samazing. Camani Appy State goes on the
road, not their best day,get beat forty nine to twenty three at
Troy. Uh, it's twenty oneseventeen app State at half, but it
was all Trojans in the second half, fourth quarter fire twenty eight points and
the run game of Troy and you'reman Kamani Vadal twenty six carries, two

(24:44):
thirty three and as you said, five touchdowns. A remarkable game. It
was turnovers, third down and rungame that gets it for Troy, having
that huge fourth core and twenty eightpoints scored. Here's your boat Race of
the weekend, Michigan twenty six,Iowa nothing, two years in a row.
The team up north goes thirteen andoh well, you still took the
under. Absolutely, brother, youalways take me under. I think eleven

(25:07):
and thirteen games. But they covered. Yeah, I think it was.
I think it was twenty one ofthat hey little curveball. Yeah, no
khakis, no blue slacks, blueslacks for coach hardball. Iowa one hundred
was one hundred and forty five yards. Now, this game was closed ten
to nothing at half, but thirtyfive total rush yards for Iowa Michigan though

(25:33):
by that tremendous Phil Parker Broils winningdefensive coordinator, they're held to sixty yards
rushing. Great job again by PhilParker's crew. The eighty seven yards Samaged
Morgan punt return for Michigan was ahuge play. James Turner had four for
four for twelve of their points withfield goals, and Tory Taylor, the

(25:57):
punter for Iowa, got a puntpunting's winning seven times three point fifty three
fifty point one average, one insidethe twenty along of sixty seven. Tory
Taylor the most valuable punter in footballdid you see the nugget this week that
said that Iowa's punting was one thousandyards more than their offensive production for the

(26:19):
entire thirteen Not a stat you wantto own one thousand yards more punting than
they did of total offense. That'swhy they'll have a new offensive coordinator next
year. And Florida State sixteen Louisvillesix. Florida State's defense the reason they
have stayed unbeaten, but obviously notenough offense for them to be in the

(26:40):
final four. Yeah, it's kindof a bittersweet year for Louisville because they're
sitting there knowing they're going to theACC Championship and they lose to their in
state rival Kentucky last week and losein a miserable, painful offensive game sixteen
to six. The Noles, aswe know, got to number got to

(27:00):
thirteen, and oh it's it's awhopping three zero Florida State at half.
Lawrence toy Feely the Wildcat run keptFlorida State in the game, playing with
their third quarterback seventy three yards inthe second half given on defense, and
then we look, Jack Plumber struggledfourteen to thirty six, one eleven and
a pick. They only had seventyseven yards of rushing. Again, tough

(27:26):
day for Brock Clinton at quarterback fillingin for Tate Roddamaker and Jordan Travis.
But look, both teams were fivecombined five of thirty four, but and
FSU missed a field goal. Thisdid not cost them. But hey,
you got to give Florida State crediton defense. They knew they were going
to have to show up to beatLouisville, and they showed up. Yeah.

(27:48):
Yeah. The only other game Iwant to mention, did you see
the North Dakota State game with thesnow I saw. I didn't see the
game, but I didn't see thatthe Yeah, holy cow. They literally
had to run shoved every change ofpossession. That's how hard it was snowing
in North Dakota one time. I'mnot joking. I just put we played
on a Thanksgiving morning. We playedat the Rubber Bowl Kind State at Akron.

(28:14):
It snowed. It was white out. You couldn't see, so I
couldn't call ball plays in the booth. I just took my head set off
because I couldn't see what the hellwas going on in the game. That's
serious. I'm dead serious, andyeah, that was we did not have
a good offensive day. The couldbe more of those this weekend in the
D two s in the D threeas We'll talk more about those. But
this week, coach, the gamewe got to talk about is the game

(28:38):
Army at Navy, and this yearthe game is extremely important for the world
of football because somebody's gonna go fivehundred, somebody's gonna get their sixth win
when Army and Navy play on Saturday. Yeah. So Army off of three
straight wins, sitting there at fiveand six three point five Paul. Navy's

(29:00):
sitting there at five and six.The over under is twenty seven and a
half. Iowa Like game used tobe played in Philadelphia every year, they
started to move it around there inGillette Stadium. There in Foxborough on Saturday.
It's the only game in town. They get to own it and they
deserve it. Jeff Mounkin is sittingthere at five and four against Navy as

(29:23):
Army's head coach, and Brian Newberryis in his first ever as a head
football coach. Big deal for Army. They can win the Commander in Chief
Trophy because they beat Air Force threeweeks ago twenty three to three. These
teams have similarities beyond just their styleof play. Both teams have faced injury

(29:45):
throughout the year, even at thequarterback position. For both of them.
It looks like this is about ashealthy as both of them have been since
Week one option football. As weknow Navy, he's had a little bit
different version of it then Army andvice versa. Some not always under the
center play. Look, Paul, here's just a couple of things that we're

(30:07):
gonna move on. It's the bestof the best. Yeah, it's the
best of the best. Not oneof those guys on that field that will
go fight and defend our country andhave to be super intelligent to get there.
They're the best. And they're notplaying for any other reason other than
the love of the game. Becausetheir schedule is unlike any other people that

(30:32):
we know. They don't get inAisle, money at West Point in Annapolis
and air Force. But this isthe love of the game and the love
of the country. It's I can'tever miss this game every year. There's
a reason, and it deserves tobe the only show in town. And
the last thing I'll say. I'vehad friends coach on both sides. To

(30:55):
the man, probably a dozen fifteenguys that I know that have coached either
for Army Navy in separate conversations, they all say the exact same thing.
You cannot match what goes on inthat game because it's it's even more so
than Michigan, Ohio State every dayof your life. Beat Army on campus,

(31:19):
beat Army, beat Navy, beatNavy, and uh no, it's
the pageantry is unbelievable. The pageantryof that game is believable. It really
is. Even if you just watchit for the pageantry, it's it'll blow
your mind. You know what allthe guys say though, that it's so
special about the game, it's ait's a pressure unlike any other pressure in

(31:40):
any game you coach, because itmeans that much to so many people across
the globe, across the absolutely.Uh yep, love Army Navy. Tune
in for that one Saturday afternoon. You won't be disappointed coach. Another part
of the program that I am neverdisappointed with, and that is the win
the Day award. Boy. Wehad some performers last weekend, whether it

(32:02):
was Friday, Saturday, or anytime over the weekend run down, your
finalist and who won the day?Great list this week, man, Yeah,
we'll start first. Nominee didn't winit, but again the Florida State
defense. They hold Louisville one hundredand eighty eight total yards two field goals

(32:22):
total for six points. They hadto show up. They were planning to
get to the Final four and theydid their part. How about the San
Francisco forty nine ers forty two nineteenThey roll over the Eagles rock party four
touchdowns. The defense holds Philadelphia aforty six rushing yards. So great week,

(32:45):
worthy of win the day. Oneof my favorite plays of the year
keon integer defensive back Iowa. Theball is punted and the effort that that
young man makes to save a touchdownfrom samage More at Oregon unbelievable. Playing

(33:08):
that hard, what that epitomized onthe ground. He missed the tackle,
was on the ground inside the threeand tackled him on the opposite knocked him
out of bound the opposite three.Un believable. It was an unbelievable play.
The Washington Huskies, the dogs, the underdogs to Oregon. They showed

(33:28):
up. They found a way togo to and oh against the Ducks.
The Green Bay Packers Paul have wonfour or five with a big win over
the Kansas City Chiefs. Starting tolook like maybe they made the right decision
with Jordan Love. He has showedup the last few weeks. Paul got
two more before we announced our winner. Iowa punter Tory Taylor. He is

(33:54):
nineteen yards away, so will theywill pun in the bowl game? Is
nineteen yards away from Johnny Pringle singleseason punting yards record of four thousand,
one hundred and thirty eight and thatrecord has stood since nineteen thirty eight.
Wow. And the last runner upis the Alabama Crimson Crimson Tide Saint Nick

(34:22):
Saban, Greg Sankee. They beatthe number one team twenty ninth straight.
The Georgia Bulldogs are beaten. Theyare back in it. As I was
told by someone, I think alot of their dead and buried Ajay,
the Tide will not make it thisyear. Arguably Nick Saban's best coaching job
since he's been at Alabama. Andlast or the winner is this one's easy?

(34:47):
You know I got a crush CaitlinClark fifteenth in Division one girls basketball
last night to get to three thousandpoints ironically number twenty two. Caitlyn Clark
needed twenty two, and she said, I'll do a little bit better with
thirty five points, nine rebounds, five assists and that win sixty seven fifty

(35:12):
eight. A cool part of thatstory at Ames Iowa against Iowa State was
right around the corner of where shewent to high school and grew up.
Pretty freaking cool. But she isthe first ever Division one men's or women's
basketball player to have three thousand points, seven hundred and fifty rebounds, seven
hundred and fifty assist She is funto watch. I try not to miss

(35:37):
a game, So if you donot take in Caitlyn Clark, I would
recommend it strongly because she is unbelievable. I don't know if you saw this
or not, because I know youdon't watch a lot of the NFL.
But a few weeks ago she wason the Manning cast for Monday Night Football
and she was fantastic. I watchedthat whole segment, and when you know

(35:57):
what, girl, when you're doneplaying basketball, gonna make a lot of
money being on TV because she's gotthe personality that fits with Peyton. You
know, he lying his dry stuffand everything but you know, Peyton can
be a star at anything. Right, She's right there with him, and
I thought, man, somewhere downthe road, you're going to see the
two of them hosting the CMAS orsomething along those lines, and it's going

(36:20):
to be fantastic. She she shewent punch for punch, pound for pound
with Peyton Manning for an entire quarter, and they didn't want to let her
go. She was that good. She's she's amazing and she's fun to watch.
And she pulls up to that logoand she lets it fly from the
hawk and goes right in the net. Man, she's unbelievable. She really
is. She is get a chanceto make sure you watch her play.

(36:42):
She is special. She will bethe number one pick in the WNBA,
There's no question about it. Coach. The last part of the show today,
I want to talk about the HeismanTrophy. I know that. You
know, obviously every week through theseason we've talked about, you know,
who has a Heisman opportunity, andnow we're down to four quarterbacks and a
wide receiver. Some people say thewide receivers coming back to Ohio State next

(37:05):
year. We will see what happensthere. But let's talk about the Heisman
Trophy. Who do you think isthe best player in college football who earns
that trophy today? Well, doyou agree with me? They got the
right top four? Oh, there'sno question. Yeah, you know Jaden
Daniels, bo Nicks, the manthat got bow Nicks this past weekend.
His team, Michael Pennox junior andone of the best wide receivers we've seen

(37:30):
play college football, and Marvin HarrisonJunior. By the way, Rome of
Doomsday is not far away if right? Oh, yeah, it's not close.
In my opinion, Paul, It'sa shame they didn't have a better
defense because the year he had whenyou look at not just what he's done,
but how he did it. Imean, he is electric. It's

(37:52):
pretty remarkable that team with him stayinghealthy the whole year, lost three games.
It really is. Yeah, JadenDaniels will win the Heisman Trophy.
I'll bet the house on that. We'll see if I'm homeless next week.
But LSU leads the nation in totaloffense, so he leads the charge in
that four nine and forty six yards. That average is four to twelve point

(38:15):
two a game. Offensively, JaydenDaniels has thrown for threey eight hundred and
twelve yards, that's third nationally. He's thrown for forty touchdown passes, which
is tied with bow Nicks for first. He has rushed for eleven thousand or
eleven hundred and thirty four rushing yards, which is ten touchdowns, which makes

(38:37):
him responsible for the most points incollege football. He's with a two point
conversion to throw in there, he'sresponsible for three hundred and two yards or
points himself. And then you lookyards per attempt eleven point seven, number
one in college football, passing touchdownsforty as we said, that ties him

(38:57):
with first with who will be thereSaturday with him, Bo Nicks. This
one is a huge one to me. He has thrown he is first in
college football with seventy completions of twentyyards or more. That's unbelievable. And
then last, but not least,as we said, he is responsible for
fifty touchdowns, which is first incollege football. I mean, he had

(39:21):
at an unbelievable year. And nowyou got three really good guys, really
good players there with him, buthe had a spectacular season. The best
part about the Heisman maybe isn't thebest part of the heisman to me is
is the background stories that get toldon all absolutely, so you know,
your eyes start sweating because the storiesare pretty phenomenal and you always look forward

(39:45):
to hearing the winner's speech afterwards andwhat direction he goes with that. So
yeah, Army Navy Heistman Weekend.I think Jade and Daniels, I'm pretty
confident as your man, and Ithink he deserves it. I really do.
So do you think he might bethe first pick in the draft or
do you think they'll still stay withCaleb Williams? You know, and thanks

(40:07):
changed because Drake May didn't finish theyear tremendously. I don't know. I
mean those NFL eyes and scouts youknow sometimes like that's the guy. Huh
yeah, But you know, BrianKelly would tell you why would you not
take Jaden Daniels and Caleb Williams hadhis struggles, but I think a lot

(40:28):
of that was turnover from them gettinginjuries and the pressure he was under because
of what they were doing defensively, which wasn't very good. But I don't
know. I haven't even seen theprojections late lately. It's going to be
interesting. I just I just thinkit's interesting that the Bears could get quarterback
and could get a wide receiver inthe first four or five picks, depending
on how that falls out. Andit could be it could be Marvin Harrison,

(40:52):
it could be Caleb Williams, itcould be It's gonna be interesting,
I do Obviously, we talked aboutMarvin Harrison supposedly considering coming by, which
is pretty unbelievable. Mister Pennox isgoing to be playing because he's still playing
for a national title. But Ireally respect bo Nicks announced he will not
opt out and he will play inthe bowl game with his teammates. So

(41:13):
good for Boden, and that doesn'tsurprise me Bo Nicks. I want one
more game of college football. He'sbeen around for like seventeen years. But
no, good for look forward towatching that show Saturday night as we do
every year. And who you got? I go with Michael Pennix, Do
you really yeah? And I guessI guess it goes down to this conversation

(41:34):
and a buddy of mine hat itthe other day. You can go with
the best player in college football, and I will not disagree with Jaden Daniels.
I go with the most valuable playerin college football in regards to the
Heisman Trophy. I don't get avote, so I can say whatever I
want. I don't think there's anyway Washington is as good as a football

(41:58):
team as there without Michael Pennox doinghe did this year. Matter of fact,
I don't even know if they winten games without Michael Pennix. He
was an unbelievable leader, unbelievable footballplayer, dealt with the weather, dealt
with injuries on his team, everything, dealt with a lousy defense for a
while during the season. They kindof turned the corner a little bit.
Don't think they're going to win thenational title, But to me, he's

(42:22):
the most valuable player in college football. Yeah. A remarkable career and the
only thing that would concern me aboutpicking Michael Pennox. And I heard Rick
new Heisl and others talk about thison radio. Unfortunately, a lot of
the folks that get to vote forthe Heisman as soon as it comes,

(42:42):
they vote and they don't wait untilsee what happens in championship week. So
if you're looking at it, wellhe is. He's the one that's playing
in the final four. But theirconcern is is how many votes go before
that final performance, which I don'tunderstand that. I mean, obviously,
I sure they'll never I would neverbe considered for a vote, But I

(43:05):
don't know why you would make avote when you know one of or more
of the cast of characters that's goingto be possibly nominated still has the biggest
game maybe of their year on Championshipweek and see who performs. Absolutely,
I agree. I agree with you. All right, dude, let's do
it again next week. We're goingto be starting our BOWLD preview next week
when we get back at it,and we'll dig into the first weekend.

(43:30):
Uh and beyond of the bowl games, there's actually some really good games next
weekend and uh, and then we'llgo from there. But my goodness,
Ay, Paul loved the matchups.Man, I got surprised for you.
Go for it. I'm going tobe watching them too. Yeah. Absolutely.
My supervisor asked me, he goes, So what do you do when
you don't work that week between Christmasand New Year's? I said, you

(43:51):
really want to know? He goes, Yeah. I said, you're not
going to judge me, He goes, I'm not going to judge you much,
I said, okay, I said, I watch college football, I
drink beer, and I spend timewith family. I said, it's not
always in that order, but Isaid that's what I do for the week
of Christmas. He goes amen.I said, that's pretty much what I
do, and I'll enjoy it.Well, maybe a little whiskey in there,
maybe some good bourbon. I justgot my Christmas bourbon yesterday. I'm

(44:14):
excited. You got your hockey goingon. You got blue jackets gear on,
we got the NFL, we gotmen's and women's college basketball, we
got boys and girls high school basketball. I mean, this is when I
start to pay a little more attentionto basketball. I have to start paying
attention to my kitty cats a littlemore than I have. I it's just
hard to do until after the Heismanweekend. They're pretty good. All right,

(44:36):
coach, you enjoy your weekend.I will talk to you next week.
