(00:00):
Welcome into the Oh Show on iHeartRadio. That guy is coach AJ Pratt.
My name is Paul James. Iam your host. What's going on?
Man, We've got a lot goingon. Week twelve. I think I
counted. This is our fifteenth showin our fifth season. Pau Wow,
Matthew's hard man. And we saidlast week, yeah, look forward to
this every week. We got toget back on our Thursdays though, Man,
(00:22):
these Wednesdays, these short game weekskill me. Two weeks, man,
two weeks. Sorry. Next weekwe got Thanksgiving and then we should
be back on Thursdays, back tothe duration. That'll be a good thing.
No, as I told you,I think you heard it as I
was coming out in my car listeningto my man Michael Bouble. It's the
time of year, little Christmas music. But I had to get into Christmas
(00:42):
spirit, Paul, because you askedme. I said, well, we'll
talk about that on the show.As you know, it's always we're two
weeks behind here, okay, rightNovember one to November two, maybe all
the way into November third. Weput up Christmas decorations because I'm married to
missus. Christmas absolutely nine trees, but when you downsize from about forty eight
(01:02):
hundred to twenty two hundred square foot, I said, where in the hell
are we going to put nine treesin the yard. So I took a
couple of trees to Goodwill and wehave less trees. Well, part of
the deal was we would have lesstrees, but my wife got to buy
a new tree. Yeah, solast couple evenings we've been Christmas tree shopping
(01:26):
and I was told that she didpurchase one today. But yeah, that
the move is complete, more relaxedtime tonight, my friend, as soon
as I leave here, I'm pickingup dinner and her and I have been
told not I ask, we areputting up Christmas trees tonight. But I
think I've got her down to four. I think I've got her down to
(01:47):
four. Well, we have threeand they are all and we bought a
new one this year too. Butour three trees, you'll be impressed.
We have a four foot, wehave a six foot, and we have
a seven foot. So the goodnews is they're all lit ready to go.
We like that we haven't put anydecorationd well, only we'll only decorate
one though. And here you're Brownsfan, right, absolutely, So,
(02:10):
let let's go from pure bliss.Because I'm not watching the game, I
see the score, I'm thinking, okay, it's another rough Sunday for the
Browns. I come back in thehouse with like, I don't know,
four or five minutes left in thegame, and I'm like, they got
a chance. So Alex our Sontexts me after the after the field goal
(02:30):
win, never in doubt, Dad, laugh out loud. Right, well,
I will tell you they go frombliss. You Browns fans go from
bliss to feeling the pain of aBrowns fan. It's what we do.
The Sean Watson is done, thefactory of sadness churns. Hey, now,
this is an incredible stat I've gota couple of stats today. Right
(02:53):
on there will be fifty one gamesPaul three seasons, fifty one games.
Deshaun Watson will have played in elevenof fifty one games. That's got to
be the worst deal in the historyof the NFL. Is We're going to
give this guy all this money andguarantee it and guarantee it and give away
(03:15):
draft picks, and the guy's goingto play an eleven of fifty one games.
That is unbeliev tr is going tostart on Sunday, right, I
just well, I went grocery shopand I won up yet that game.
A buddy of mine stopped by andwe chatted for a few minutes, and
I had the game on, butI wasn't really paying attention to it.
Obviously I was, And then theyhad to go and I look up and
(03:37):
the Browns were down like seventeen inthe third quarter, and I went,
I turned it off. It wasa beautiful day. I went and finished
my grocery shop and got stuff forThanksgiving things like that, got home and
went, Holy cow, they wonthat football game. I know, hey.
And the last thing, paul Ido you asked? We talked about
this off air. It was toughto see one of my friends get beat
(03:58):
by another friend's team last week. But congratulations to those guys at Upper Arlington.
They're in the regional final. Andif you live here in the area
and you're a listener from Marion,Ohio, you might want to take a
trip over to watch. I callthem the b town Bell Fountain is coming
to play Waterson at Harding High orat the Harden High School here and Marion
(04:24):
and you get to watch the twentytwenty five commit quarterback Tavian Saint Clair,
who is a joy to watch. But I look forward to seeing that after
a little bit of basketball that I'mresponsible for some stuff for my wife and
daughter's team. Well, I've seennow Watterson play. They are very good.
I have been invited over to thatgame, but I saw the weather
(04:46):
forecast and thought, you know what, Bradley and Upper Arlington on TV might
be a better option for me Friday. But we'll see. I enjoy watching
coach Butterman's team play. I knowthey're the IOWA of high school for but
man, they're fun to watch.I enjoy watching them. Yeah, well
coached, they find a way towin games. And I'll tell you we
uh. I want to get startedby talking a little bit about this whole
(05:09):
Michigan fiasco. We've talked about it. I don't know. Maybe some people
think they're starting to beat a deadhorse, but to me, it's still
very active. Obviously, Harball andMichigan, the Big Ten all going to
court Friday mornings, so they're gonnafigure out what they're gonna figure out.
But coach this is just unprecedented inthe world of college football. And here
(05:30):
he steps out and tells everybody they'reAmericas team. I don't care who you
root for it, No, youare not America's team. Hey, he
is one of a kind. AndKhaki Gate, Yeah, Khaki Gate.
Here's the thing, And this ismy opinion on this. The Big Ten
Commissioner Tony Patiti that in my opinion, that's not his call. And it
(05:55):
was obviously it was a personal shotthat we're gonna wait, we have an
idea of what time of flight's gonnaleave to go from ann Arbor to play
at Penn State, and they makethe announcement while they're in the air on
the plane. I mean, Ithought that was a little bush leggie,
to be honest with you, Butthere's some personal dislike for coach Harball by
(06:17):
the conference by coaches. We knowthis, But I think in my opinion,
there's two sets of folks that canmake the decision that was made,
and I don't think the Big Tencommissioner is it because look, I'm not
saying it's not legit. I meanthere's proof. I mean there's proof,
(06:40):
but you being pressured by all theother coaches in the league to punish somebody.
There is due process. But theMichigan president and the Michigan ad they
can make that decision. Hey you'resuspended, but they got us back one
hundred percent. And then the otherone is is the NC double A.
I think that's different than a differencecommissioner making that decision one hundred percent because
(07:03):
of pressure from within the league withall the other head coaches. But yeah,
Jimmy will be in court on Friday. Yeah, and Jim says that
he wants to speak. I don'tknow if they allow him to speak.
But I have no idea. Youhave no idea. Nobody really knows.
They say it's in a Michigan alumbas. The judge's handling the case in the
(07:24):
court, but really we don't knowwhat's going to happen. I would think
if I'm an Ohio State fan,I'm Ryan Day, I absolutely want Jim
Harball on the sideline. So there'sno excuse if Ohio State wins that we
had an advantage because coach Harball wasnot on the sideline. If he's there,
maybe if it's a different outcome, best scenario for Ohio State, Jim
(07:46):
Harball is allowed to coach, andyou beat him with him on the sideline,
I agree one hundred percent. Andyou've got experience obviously in the Harball
family used to coach in the housethat Harball built at WKU, So I
mean, you know, you kindof know a little bit of that dynamic
and how their family works and whysome people really don't like them. But
(08:07):
they obviously do one thing. Onething well, they win football game.
Yeah, you know what. JackHarball came and spent a week with US
at Western Kentucky University, our headfootball coach was his quarterback at WKU when
they won a national championship. Sowhen Jack came, I asked him a
question. It was just he andI sitting there, and I said,
coach, you have two very successfulsons in college and professional football. You've
(08:33):
got a son in law that inTom Crean. I said, do you
have any advice of where he goes? I'll never forget it. He didn't
hesitate. He said, my wifeand I never did anything for our children
that they couldn't do for themselves. From the time they were if they could
do it, we were not doingit for him. And I thought that
was a pretty cool coaching tip.But John's a little bit more a little
(08:56):
bit more like US Paul than Jim. Then Jimmy is I understand? I
understand, my friend. Well, let's talk about the CFP rankings. Ohio
State moves to two, Georgia hat number one. Other than that,
they pretty much stayed the same.No surprises in that at all. No.
I mean, here's the stat ofthe week November eighth, twenty twenty.
(09:20):
Kirby Smart is forty eight and fourteen. After last week he is now
ninety one and fifteen. Wow,forty three and one. There's still the
champ, Paul. I know it'sa different year, it's a different team,
but back to back they can seriouslymake a run. So I agree.
(09:45):
I agree with all this. OhioState drops one spot. It's arguable
for me, I test after Michiganfinally plays a decent opponent, as they
could be two, but it doesn't. It's gonna play itself out right,
it's irrelevant. Uh. The onethat they're FSU at fourth, I understand.
(10:05):
Uh, undefeated Washington, they atsometimes look like they have some weaknesses
on defense and then running the ball, and then all of a sudden they
run the ball. I'm okay withOregon because again that's probably gonna play out
as well. Maybe unless the thePAC twelve decide, oh you know,
yeah, unless Washington Oregon State saywe're playing each other the heck with you.
(10:30):
They could, they could, theycould really throw a wrench in it
because the judge told them they werein choice. Is that not crazy?
That once again it's the craziest college. It's not. And we're not talking
football again. Like we just talkedabout Khaki Gate and all this the brown
we're not talking about on the fieldstuff. It is wild out there.
It's crazy. But yeah, howwould you like to see? Yeah,
those two teams that now are incontrol of the Pac twelve say you two
(10:54):
aren't gonna play We're gonna play eachother in the Pac twelve championship. That
would be nuts. But but don'tthey don't all the university share the money
and everything from that game. Imean, you would think somewhere in there
they would say, and they getFriday Night. I think don't they?
I think I think the Pac twelvegets Friday Night. I know it was
last year because Ohio State was rootingfor Utah to upset USC on that Friday
(11:16):
night. They play Friday Night. But you would think if they all share
that money, but maybe maybe maybethe only people to get money are Oregon
State and Washington State. Who knows, Yeah, it's gonna be crazy.
Well, and then you've got numberseven, Texas, nine and one who
just keeps finding a way other thanthat Oklahoma loss. You don't want to
play the eighth ranked team in thecountry right now? No, No,
(11:39):
I mean they're peaking, They areplaying extremely well. I actually had that
on my notes. They are theone team I wouldn't want to play today,
that and the team up north, because they're not only good, they're
mad. And I am glad tosee. I agree with Kirk Kirk Street.
Missouri deserved. They played Georgia tough. Yeah, and they the boat
(12:01):
raced Tennessee this past weekend to seethem there at ninth. And then Louisville
sitting there as a spoiler. Here'sthe scenarios that I real quick. I
think there's two jokers in the deck, Texas and Louisville. Okay, so
here, I'm not saying Louisville getsto the title game. I'm not saying
they can't. There's a lot ofthings that can still happen here in the
(12:22):
next three weeks. Okay, theteam that Alabama they went out, Okay,
they played Georgia in the championship, they beat Georgia. Texas does not
lose FSU does not lose top tobottom. It's hard for anybody to say
(12:45):
that any conference is better than thisfinal year of the PAC twelve. So
I don't see any way you're gettingtwo teams from any conference. Now things
can happen. But my question is, do you think if Alabama beats Georgia
and Texas with the head to headwin, that they are going to keep
the SEC champion out of the finalfour Because I think the teams, I
(13:09):
mean, it would be criminal. But what if Florida State runs it and
has the weakest schedule in Alabama?Because the committee has shown us in the
past they don't go on eye test, they go on resume. And when
you say that Alabama has went throughthe SEC with no losses and beat the
defending champ, if that would happen, I don't know how you keep them
(13:31):
out. You can't keep them out, especially because they're getting better every single
So who's out probably if the Pactwelve doesn't get to play each other.
I mean, seriously, that wouldthat would be a crazy thing. You're
right, it's going to be insane. So Texas, Texas is playing the
rest of the year without the toprated running back in the draft according to
mel Kiper, and that's Jonathan Brooks. They're brooksless and Louisville is good enough
(13:58):
on defense that it looks like Ithink it may be certain actually that they're
going to face Florida State in theACC championship. Right, so those two
teams, if Texas gets beat, the scenario with the SEC has gone away,
and Louisville could be the spoiler orsave the committee by getting a loss
to and being the champ even thoughthey have one loss, they would not
(14:18):
jump over all those other teams.I still believe, And obviously this all
goes away mid in mid January.I still believe they have to look at
the conference championships. If you've gottwo top eight teams playing against each other,
you have to look at the winnergets to move on. I really
(14:41):
believe that. So to me,if that plays out, Alabama wins,
Alabama's in and Georgia missed their chancebecause they lost in that championship game.
And I feel the same way aboutthe acc you know, maybe Louisville does
end up upsetting Florida State, dothey deserve to be in? Boy,
I tell you got to pick whicheverconference you're not gonna put in. I've
(15:03):
always thought I've always been against thetwelve team, right until now. Yeah,
I mean, we get to havethis conversation. But could you imagine
we're not a year behind and thisis the year that twelve teams get to
go play. It would be incredible, it would be this would be the
year to do it. Oh absolutely, But think about next year too.
(15:26):
I mean, you know we're donehaving this is it? This is our
last chance to have an undefeated nationalchampion. I believe look at the NFL,
you know, all the way backto the seventies, right, I
just believe that we're in that world. If we're gonna have an undefeated champion.
This is the year, the lastyear we're gonna have it, because
lord knows, we're not gonna havea chance because these guys are going to
(15:46):
play so many blue buds during theirseason. I mean, it's gonna be
like NFL football. Well that meansthere's if we have it, there's only
five teams left that can do it. I know it's fun stuff, man,
but yeah, I would not wantto play Alabama. Let's talk about
the Buckeye game. Ohio State beatsMichigan State thirty eight to three. Coach
your thoughts. They showed up,man, Yeah they did. Here here's
(16:11):
the good. We talked about thefast start. It's thirty five to three
at the first half. This getsa lot of players reps. We talked
about not playing guys. It wasKyle McCord's best overall performance of the year.
So that's good for buckye fans tosee. He's twenty four thirty one,
three thirty five, three touchdowns.Doesn't turn it over. He was
more accurate. He distributed it tonine different offensive skill players. Seven of
(16:34):
those touches each for Marvin Harrison Junior. And he's back captain cade Stover,
which was good to see. Butthe star is the chips are in and
there's no doubt about it. AndI'm glad you and I just talked about
the young man off air is MarvinHarrison Junior and what kind of player he
(16:57):
is. But they are making apush to help this kid. It may
it helps their team. Every timehe touches the ball, but getting him
more touches, you know, youget the reverse and then you get the
seven catches, you get the threetouchdowns. They're giving him a chance.
I'm gonna make a prediction his Heismanmoment, maybe like Desmond Howard's, is
(17:21):
if they go into that Michigan gameand he on the game on a national
scene, goes off against Michigan, that may be enough maybe to get him
that award. He's gonna he's gonnahave the stage. He is well.
I think he's already picked out asuit. He's gonna be in New York.
I mean, I think that thatship is gone. But make sure
you take a chance to watch himplay football. Coach, he is so
(17:45):
so good, and he seems likejust a great kid who works hard and
deserves everything. We are watching greatnessat Ohio State right now that we may
never see again, maybe for anotherdecade or twenty years. He's that good.
He's that good. He is thatgood. And then then you also
look in this game, Paul,it's good to see they did rush for
(18:06):
one hundred and eighty yards by committeewith five players, and the balance,
I mean just the balance. Theyhad more passing yardage, but It's good
to see when you pass it thirtyfour times and handed it off thirty two
times, that's pretty freaking balanced. The defense didn't allow touchdown. They held
Michigan State to two of fourteen onthird down. Michigan State's held to eighty
eight. Didn't have one hundred yardsin either of the pass or the run
(18:27):
game. And I'm getting close.Maybe we're there. We get to say
the word elite on defense. Okay, they're not giving up explosives. My
concern in the game again, everygame there's a list on game day that's
released. Josh Proctor, Lathan Ransom, Tommy Eikenberg all out and they go
another game on defense though without atakeaway, without a takeaway. And last
(18:52):
if we said again not so specialteams. Jaden Fielding had the missfield goal.
And I just keep asking with myselfand we don't have time to go
any deeper into this. When isthe last time you saw a great return,
a kick block, a pump blockby a high state special teams.
(19:12):
That's something BUCKYE fans should be wantingfor Christmas. It's a concern for me
next week when we do play Michigannot having that feeling that we are the
better team in special teams against againstthat team up north, because I just
don't think we are. But man, it's a concern, it really is.
(19:33):
We're going to see what happens obviouslythis week with Minnesota. We'll talk
about that in a few minutes.Coach, I know you had something you
wanted to drop in here before wedig into the other games last week.
Real quick. It's that time ofyear. Paul November black mondays, there's
two kinds of coaches, those thathave been and those that will be fired.
Jimbo Fisher six and four, he'sout, Zach Arnett ten games in
(19:56):
at Mississippi State that they actually beatlast week is out Andy Avalos five and
five. This year twenty two andfourteen, ten games into only his third
season. Boise State takes football serious. He's out Brady Hope to quote unquote
retire and his second stint at SanDiego State. And after the Michigan victory,
(20:18):
coach James Franklin made a decision tolet Mike hears this go. It
sucks, but come next Monday,we'll have another few that are that are
going to be let go. There'sno doubt about it. Right, they're
already running down the list. Allyou have to do is turn on a
sports talk show and you'll hear aboutwho's rumored to be next at losing their
job. And now we're starting tohear about the NFL kicking in dooing the
(20:40):
same thing too, and Paul,so we can get through these games last
week faster, some notable performances. The other guy that may be in the
lead, it's one of three guysin mind, Well, we'll say four.
But Jaden Daniels three seventy two pass, two thirty four rush, first
ever in the history of FBS topass for three hundred and run for more
(21:00):
than two hundred. Dylan Gabriel,he had a decent day, eight touchdowns
in their offensive explosion. How aboutCody Schrader at Missouri, Yes, thirty
five carries, two to five, five catches, one sixteen. What about
r J. Harvey twenty four carriesfor Central Florida and that upset two six
three touchdowns. How about linebacker Caylinde Roche ten tackles, two sacks,
(21:22):
two TFLs for Florida State Arizona JoanahColeman eleven carries, one eighty that's sixteen
plus a touch and real quick,David Brown beats Nebraska. It's just over
one hundred days ago. Paul coachFitz has let go. This guy's given
a mess. He's sitting there atfive and five, and rumor is this
(21:48):
afternoon they are giving him that jobas the head coach, and deservingly,
in my opinion, Eli drink Wentznow number nine went from the hot seat
to I bet an extension. GusMauzon dominated Oklahoma State and last but not
least, we could do without thetears my opinion, But it was an
emotional moment. Sharon Moore and whathis than that staff did with all the
(22:10):
chaos and drama that was surrounding thattough road game. Well, you know,
you know, Sean Is is lockedinto that program and has been for
almost all the time that Harball's beenthere. So let's dig into the games
a little bit. Let's talk aboutGeorgia and Ole Mess. Fifty two to
seventeen was a runaway between the hedges. Man, yeah, this game was
fourteen to fourteen, and Georgia says, okay, and they score thirty one
(22:33):
straight points and this is a boatrace. Georgia ran the rock for three
hundred, through it for three eleven. Kendall Milton showed the explosiveness in the
backfield that went nine carries for oneto twenty seven. They're making plays on
the on the perimeter. Lad mcconkeyeanother good week. There's this guy named
Bowers that's back tied end and madeplays. But look the one person that
(22:53):
I think is underappreciated right now ina great field of quarterbacks, Carson back.
The dude can sling it. He'smobile. Georgia's defense totally limits Jackson
Dart and Quinn Schewn Judkins, andthey dominated third down. Ole Miss had
(23:14):
a lot I think it was thirteenpenalties in that game. It was a
lot, but dominance by the champ. When was the last time you saw
the number three team in the countrynot throw a pass in the second half
of a football game? Michigan twentyfour, Penn State fifteen. Wow?
Maybe Iowa? Yeah, maybe, but still no second half passes this game.
(23:37):
Think about this. They went onthe road to play a top the
number ten team. They rush atforty six times to their eight pass attempts.
They went pack. It's Jim Tressel'sfavorite play. It's Jim Harbaugh's favorite
play. It's power. You're pullinga guard, you're kicking out on the
edge with a full back or atight end, depending what person. Now
(24:00):
you're in. They're putting six sevenoffensive linemen in there. They are masking
you, as you call it,ground, pound, ground and pound.
Look this is where Look, PennState can't pence. We've seen them against
Ohio State and we've seen them againstthe Michigan I kind of saw this one
with coach or shitch coming. Youcould see on the sideline those two games.
(24:22):
The frustration because Oler is a bettertalent than what he's performing. But
Paul, he's a friend. Analyticsagain, what is going on chasing points
in the first half? Bad answer? After the game, by the way,
coach Franklin said, analytics said togo for two. Okay, then
(24:47):
this one makes no sense. I'mseriously, I'm watching the game. I'm
like, what the hell is goingon right now? You're down nine.
You have an opportunity to get theball back. If you get a stop
and you go for two and don'tmake it, the game is over.
Yeah, at least have your kidshave enough belief that, hey, we
get the ball back. We canstill score and go for two. When
(25:08):
you don't make it, it's over. So that was disappointing. It was
an impotent Penn State offense. Allerstruggled ten of twenty two for seventy yards.
A change probably needed to be made. Coach, does Michigan have a
weakness, Well, it's not oneither side of the line of scrimmage is
what makes because they're like a bullconstrictor. They impose their will and if
(25:33):
they get ahead, they can milkthe clock. Blake korm is one of
the best backs I've ever seen andbeen able. I mean he's a perfect
back for what they do. Offensive. Yeah, McCarthy can play. I
mean he legs, army, makesgood decisions, he takes care of it.
We know about those running backs, their tight ends. They're good in
the secondary. They've got seventeen eighteenguys that are going to be drafted.
(25:56):
The only place that you may thinkthey're not really really good as the perimeter
of the pass game. So ifthey would get behind fourteen seventeen points in
the game, if that would happen, you'd the concern would be how many
explosives can we get from the perimeter. But boy, he looked like a
football player after that game, facefull of blood and all taped up,
and he looked like a football player. Washington, Utah. Great football game.
(26:21):
The Huskies pass a huge test. They shut out the Utes in the
second half. You tall good firsthalf, Bryce and Barnes a good first
half. Not so good in thesecond with the two picks that he threw.
It's another great day for Michael Pennox, another good day for Dylan Johnson,
another great day for Roma Doonzay.Washington limits the Utah run, they
take the ball away, and theypitch a second half shutout, so they
(26:44):
find another way to win. Butit's got to be the play of the
week, maybe the play of theyear. Linebacker Alfonso tou Patala, yep,
never gonna live it down. Nevergonna live it down. You do
that, Paul, It wasn't evenclose. He lays the ball down three.
It was a three, so ifyou're listening and you haven't seen it,
(27:07):
he picks the ball off, hitsa linebacker for Washington. He goes
about seventy five yards is that rightlong way? And he pulls the old
I'm going to drop the ball assoon as I crossed the goal line,
but he don't get to the goalline. And what was crazy? Multiple
players passed the ball. Yeah,Washington, guy's passed the ball to go
celebrate, Go celebrate with him.And finally you see a Utah player say
(27:30):
I think that ball's live and hepicks up. But the very next play,
because the ball's on the two yardline, they get stuffed for safety.
But another good win for Washington.Absolutely that was that was a fun
game to watch. Another one wasthe Kinges. They gave the Seminals a
game twenty seven to twenty. FloridaState survives. Yep, we have a
new quarterback. I think he's afreshman, Emery Williams struggled, gets injured.
(27:52):
Late Tyler van Dyke comes in,he's been benched, and they have
about a minute and a half andhe throws a pick in the game.
Look, Miami's defense showed up.And actually that staff coach Gentry and I
coached together at Western Kentucky. Hewas just nominated for Assistant Coach of the
Year. So that's they're playing gooddefense. They hold the FSU to fifty
(28:15):
seven rush yards. It's one pointeight a touch. They got three sacks
on Jordan Travis, nine tackles forloss, but Travis again was solid.
Keyon Coleman again, he shows upthe receiving touchdown, the fifty seven yard
punt return. That's a special playand Florida State won special teams and that
can be the difference in the sevenpoint game. Now, bo Nicks has
(28:37):
already got a reservation in a flightfrom one end of the country to the
other for the second Saturday of December. He's fantastic. He played an unbelievable
football game. Oregon again wins thirtysix to twenty seven over us Sex.
And again, if you didn't watchit, don't let that score fool you.
This game was not thirty six totwenty seven close. Usc scored thirteen
(28:57):
to late points because it's thirty sixfourteen Oregon early in the fourth and that's
with thirteen duck penalties. That couldget him, Yeah, that could get
them. Bo Nicks a pedestrian fourhundred and twelve yards. I'm being sarcastic.
Four touchdowns, Troy Franklin touch twocatches for one forty seven, Tedz
(29:19):
Johnson seven catches for one twenty six. Another solid day. Bucky irving at
running back, usc could not runit, and obviously they still can't stop
anybody. Rest your soul, BobbyKnight. He used to say, one
of the greatest educators in the gameof sports was your rear end on the
bench, and that happened to JalenMilrow back in September Saturday. He had
(29:41):
six touchdowns, three in the air, three on his feet, a forty
nine to twenty one, just rearand kicking Alabama over Kentucky, and Jalen
mill Road has made himself a contender. Will repeat exactly what you and I
said last week. He is themost it ain't even close, the most
improved player in the country, bringingin transfers from Notre Dame that couldn't play
(30:03):
at Notre Dame because they were worriedabout this guy in the offseason. Okay,
the first game, not so okay, the second game, benched in
the third game, and now he'sas good as any quarterback in the country.
The way he's playing right now,Woodshed just the muffed kool Aid mckissry
punt hands Kentucky the ball in thefirst half is the only thing that gave
(30:23):
him hope. This is the besttied defense that I've seen in years.
They hold a UK to ninety fiverush and they get after Devin Leary with
three sacks, nine tackles for theloss, two takeaways. They are running
the football, handing it off, which they have not done the last couple
of years. This is how NickSaban used to win before the air raid
(30:45):
with Sarkisian and coach Locksley and LaneKiffin. This is their early run the
ball, take care of the ball, quarterback, make plays if you can
at quarterback, and play outstanding defense. And that's what you got. And
they're winning. Missouri thirty six Tennesseeseven. That was a boat race.
Cody Schrader three hundred and twenty oneall purpose yards. What a day.
(31:07):
U t couldn't run it. Theycouldn't stop the run, and they give
it to Missou at home missoo threetimes the ball here you go two by
Joe Milton. They have nine penalties. Uh Missouri. Missouri offense balanced as
you say. Another good week forBrody Cook at quarterback at two seventy five.
(31:30):
But it was the Cody Schrader show, There's no doubt about it.
Really good on third down. Tennesseecould not get off the field. On
defense. They were eleven of seventeenon third down. It's a good look
for Missouri because it was a whippingu t didn't show up, Yeah,
Paul, I mean they didn't showup. But give Missouri credit because they've
played Georgia the toughest of anybody thatwe've seen, and they just smoked Tennessee.
(31:56):
You mentioned it earlier in the show. Jaden Daniels unbelievable. He all
also wearned a trip to New Yorkin December LSU fifty two Florida thirty five.
Man, he has fun to watchplay football in't he? He?
He is? He is? Whatelectric is? He's electric? The heats
back up down there in Gains. No question they're sitting there at five and
(32:19):
five. I don't care if it'sthe second year for that staff or not.
The crazy thing is about this game, Paul, watching it, you
kind of lose sense, you know. Graham merch is twenty six of thirty
eight in this game, throws foreleven, doesn't throw a pick, throws
for three eleven. Trevor e Tn. It leads to an offense that runs
for one seventy seven and they actuallygo up twenty eight to twenty four.
(32:43):
In the third quarter, Florida isup. But Florida allowed seven hundred and
two offensive yards. Now about fivepoint fifty of that came from mister Daniels.
Yeah, and also Florida got themselvesin bad positions late in the game
with big losses with sacks and negativeplays. But yeah, Jade Daniels special
(33:07):
player for the second week in arow and probably most of the season.
The Big Twelve is the football conferencefull of upsets, and they highlight our
quick hitters. Coach talk about someof the other games. Will you want
to mention? Yeah, Texas twentynine and win on the road at TCU.
TCU almost comes back with twenty pointsin the fourth quarter. Yours had
a solid day. TCU's Josh Hoovertwo late touchdown passes to get it close,
(33:30):
but Texas runs out the clock toget the three point win. Just
a couple of noteworthy TCU Savi andWilliams had a good day with eleven catches
one sixty four to one touchdown andXavier Worthy stepped up and we'll need to
had one hundred and thirty seven yardsreceiving Number fifteen Oklahoma State goes to UCF
(33:52):
who's sitting there at four and five, and all the praises that we said
about Oklahoma State last week gone likelike one of my former colleagues would say,
pat him on, pat him onthe back. He didn't say crap,
but yeah, they'll crap in yourhandep Oli Gordon is held to twenty
five yards rushing. That was shocking. Now it was a monsoon. Fifty
(34:17):
two team yard rushing for Oklahoma State. Great defensive day by Central Florida in
the rain. John Rice Plumb,we had three hundred yards passing three touchdowns.
How about Kobe Hudson, he hadthree touches. They were three touchdowns
for ninety six yards. And RJ. Harvey two hundred and six yards rushing
for Central Florida, three touchdowns.Oklahoma State didn't show up. Number twenty
(34:39):
one. Arizona goes two bolder. Now prime is four and six and surprise
in Arizona with a great job bythose guys this year are seven and three,
five and five. Now Texas Techhangs on with a sixteen thirteen win
at Kansas, Oklahoma. They decidedto come back and play the this week.
(35:00):
They smoke West Virginia fifty nine twentyat home. Dylan Gabriel with the
eight touchdowns. I always have tobring up Iowa. The over and under
was twenty seven and a half.Paul bet the I always stick the under.
Twenty two to zero over Rutgers NorthCarolina a doublet win over Duke Louisville
(35:22):
Thursday night. Was down the UVAand had a huge fourth quarter to come
back and keep their season where it'sat. And again James Madison and Liberty
are sitting there after ten weeks withzero losses. Gotta be excited about Toledo.
They beat Bowling Green last night.I had more friends at that game
last night than I did at theBuckeye game on Saturday. That's the truth.
(35:44):
Hi, guys, text maham atthis game. Had it man one
point. That was a fun one. I had a lot of friends there
last night. Let's talk about thegames coming up this weekend. Washington at
Oregon State. Coach, this oneis huge. Yeah, I mean you're
number five, You're sitting there tenand zero, You're feeling good about life,
and here we got another one.If Washington runs the table, it
(36:07):
is remarkable because of that schedule, especially late here in the year going to
Corvallis and Oregon State is favored athome two and a half point favorite.
Sixty three and a half is theover under points will be scored seven thirty
ABC. Maybe the absolute best gamethat probably doesn't have anything to do with
the CFP, But you taught Arizona. You taught Arizona the two thirty PAC
(36:30):
twelve game number twenty two. Utahsitting there now seven and three, which
is surprising, goes to a aswe said, now number seventeen Arizona team
that's seven and three. Quarterbacks keyin every game, but Noah Fafiitas sixteen
touchdowns, four picks, Does zutzBarn show up and play like he did
the first half or the second half? And can the Utes defense bounce back
(36:53):
against Arizona. Texas at Iowa StateOn paper not a good game, but
Iowa State always finds a way toplay better when they need to. Yeah,
well, eight pm Fox, Ilook forward to this game. Texas
is playing again on the road withouttheir running back, but their defense is
good enough to carry them. That'swhy they're a seven and a half point
favorite, and the over under isonly forty six and a half. Iowa
(37:15):
State still sitting there at five andtwo in the Big twelve. My question
is, though, do they haveenough firepower to take down Texas? The
Battle of Kansas Kansas State at Kansas. This is a good one. Yeah,
seven pm FS one, number twentyone k State is a seven and
a half point favorite at number twentyfive Kansas fifty six and a half.
(37:36):
You know, other than that threepoint loss to Texas, Kansas State's trending
the right way, Paul. They'resitting there, winning four of their last
five with that the one loss toTexas. They're averaging five yards a run.
Will Howard's throwing twenty one touchdown passes. And here's the concern for Kansas.
They beat Oklahoma and Iowa State, then they lose it at home last
(37:58):
week to Texas Tech. The problemis they're going on their third quarterback.
Jalen Daniels has been out really thewhole season and most of the last two
and Jason Bean took a shot.I don't think he's playing from what I
understand. So their number three isgoing to have to beat a rival in
state, rival who's playing really wellright now. Georgia and Tennessee hate each
other. I mean, look itup. They don't like each other.
(38:21):
There's nothing about the two universities thatthey like. But Georgia probably will boat
race Tennessee. I don't know, three thirty traditional, we're almost out of
these. I know CBS right tenand o. Georgia is a ten point
favorite, the number one team inthe land going to a number eighteen UT
that's seven and three, a fiftyeight and a half point over under.
(38:42):
But I mean, sometimes the bestthing for you to do if you have
talented team is get embarrassed and youget to hear it from your family,
from people on campus, people onsocial media, TV, and absolutely your
coaches of what happened last week. But it's hard to believe the way Georgia
played last week and how Tennessee thatTennessee has a chance. But that's why
(39:07):
they play the game. And itis in Knoxville, right. Two teams
that really need to win, NorthCarolina at Clemson. Yeah, North Carolina's
sitting there eight and two. Thisis at yeah, three point thirty ESPN
number twenty u n C with adouble overtime win last week. Clemson sitting
there at six and four. Dabosaying by Stock and Clemson. Now's the
(39:30):
time they are six and a halfpoint favorite in the second death Valley.
But this is this simple, thisis which team shows up Bowl because sometimes
you North Carolina doesn't stop anybody andClemson can't score. So advantage North Carolina
(39:52):
because they have the best player inthe game with Drake. May advantage Clemson
because they still can play pretty gooddefense and they're at home upset alert.
Not Louisville at Miami. Yes,well, I'm not going to say that
Louisville's laser focused. And the problemat Miami right now is is who's going
to play quarterback? Right? Who'sgonna play this Tyler Van Dyke. They
just mentioned him and then he hadto come in at the end of the
game and he throws that pick. You don't know how bad the Williams kid
(40:15):
was hurt. You got two gooddefenses, and you have an advantage with
Louisville in the run game. Butyou usually don't see this. Miami is
a half point favorite at home ina game that they expect two good defenses
to show up. Because Neon ABC, that is a forty six and a
half over under. Interesting. Michiganat Maryland. Will Jimmy be on the
(40:37):
sidelines noon Big Fox. Number threeMichigan is a nineteen point favorite at six
and four Maryland. Maryland squeaked oneout last week in Nebraska thirteen to ten.
My question is, is with thatMichigan defense, can Maryland score enough
because we thought that's been their theirdeal. But here's the thing. Not
(40:59):
many people go to Maryland games, and it's this is the game sandwich between
the two biggest games of the yearfor Michigan. You just wonder, is
there a chance that Michigan goes inthere sleep walking before the game after the
win last week with all the uhdrama fried distractions. So yeah, well,
(41:20):
I expect Michigan to have a goodday. Okay, I do too.
Take their galvanized. I agree withyou, they really looked that way
last week. I agree with you. What other games you'd be interested in
this weekend? Well again, BillyNapier, you're sitting there at five and
five. Yeah, and what you'rewhat you get after you get beat by
LSU bad in the fourth quarters,You get to take a trip to number
(41:42):
nine Missouri UH seven thirty Eastern fiftyeight and a half spread or over under
missou has favored eleven and a halftwelve points noon FS one after changes,
after a beat that's deflating. Youhave a team that will go play their
tailoff in Rutgers at six and fouris going to number twelve Penn State.
(42:05):
Penn State's a twenty and a halfpoint favorite, but you think they expect
many points being scored. It's aforty one and a half over under.
Here's one three thirty FS one fiveand five Illinois at number sixteen Iowa.
I was sitting there at eight andtwo minus three. They're a three point
favorite. It's a lot bigger overrunner this week they got to thirty and
a half, so still take theunder. Yeah, three thirty ABC,
(42:34):
a longtime rivalry six and four nowUcla at seven and four USC two teams
that are going south at the sametime. SC is a seven point favorite.
Lot of clamor out there about ChipKelly's job security right now, A
lot uh three thirty ACC Network. The reason I put this here. Seven
and three NC State, who playsvery well on defense, very well on
(42:57):
special teams, goes to a fiveand five Virginia Tech team that has now
won three of four. If theycan get this next one that gets that
fan base back to a bowl game. They're a three point favorite at home
low over and under because both teamsare better on the defensive side of the
ball. Last two six and four. UK is a point and a half
favorite at four and six South Carolina. The reason I think this is a
(43:17):
big deal. You went from alot of hope in that South Carolina program
the way they ended last year. They're staring four and eight in the face
if they can't pull this up offat home. You went from seven eight
wins last eight wins last year,I think, to four and eight.
That's not the right way to go. And then last but not least seven
(43:38):
thirty NBC five and five at Nebraskafive and five Wisconsin two first year coaches
the Phil long Ago higher has notworked out for Wisconsin. They've struggled mightily
on offense. So it was Nebraska, but one of these Big ten West
first year head coaches gets their teamback to a bowl game. Yeah,
(43:59):
that's huge, that really is.I'm glad you pointed that out. Coach
who won the day last weekend.Well, I'll get through the almost pretty
quickly. Michigan players and staff, their resiliency. Agreed, with all the
chaos, the two blue bloods thepeople in the Big ten don't want to
hear about. Alabama and Georgia area rounding into form and they look like
(44:22):
a team you do not either oneof the teams you do not want to
play. Northwestern and David Brown fiveand five. Seriously, that is unbelievable
to me. Washington Huskies keep findinga way to navigate that pac twelfth schedule
and they get another rolling ball ofbutcher knives coming at him this week.
Dylan Gabriel almost and probably the firstrunner up is Jaden Daniels because it was
(44:46):
historic what he did. But Paul, it ain't close, Bud, It's
not close. He's going to thephone. We've got multimedia. I'm not
playing anything, but I'm gonna readthis to you ahead. The Win the
Day Award in a landslide is Jimboand Jimmy Jimbo and Jimmy Jimbo Fisher and
(45:10):
mister Jimmy Sexton, who has madethe show before his agent Paul. Within
sixty days, Jimbo Fisher is tobe paid nineteen point four million dollars and
then within the next one hundred dayshe's to be paid seven point two seven
million dollars, and then every yearfrom twenty twenty five to twenty thirty one,
(45:30):
Jimbo will be getting seven point twentyseven million million. Wow, Jimmy
wins. Jimbo wins. Now Here, here's the thing, chi ching Jimbo.
I know you don't listen to theshow, but if you did,
he's got time to though. Herewould be my advice. Go do what
(45:54):
Gus Malzon's done is go take ateam that you're not under the microscope like
you are to Texas Tech or orGus was at Auburn. If you watch
Gus Smeleson in the locker room withthat team after the game, he's doing
what Jimbo has not. We mentionedit. Does it look like they're having
(46:15):
any fun? Oh, Naggyland,Jimbo ain't having fun, hasn't had fun.
Now he can go have a hellof a lot of fun now.
Yeah, but twenty three dollars aday not to coach football. You go
take a low paying job compared towhat you've been and go enjoy being a
football coach again. I seriously thinkthat would be a great thing for him,
(46:35):
because you still got to look. The man won a national championship as
the OC at LSU for a coachSaban. The man won a national championship
at Florida State and he, Imean, they just didn't get done.
But who has ever got it doneat Texas A and M. Who nobody?
Johnny football, Johnny Manziel. Youknow they had that great run with
(46:59):
him with Kevin Summon, but theydidn't win a championship. You look back
to RC SLOCUM. I mean theyhad good teams, but A and m's
never won anything in football. Soit'll be interesting. And I do have
to believe Ross b York the adwas my last ad at Western Kentucky University.
(47:19):
It's hard for me to believe.Oh, another piece of this pie
here, Paul. They play aone double A FCS team this week.
He wasn't going to give him achance to get an easy win and maybe
pull out one in LSU. Andnow what do we do? Because we
owe him all this money, he'sgot his man. Do you think do
you think they do the old let'smake a deal with the devil? And
(47:43):
do they bring Urban Meyer to TexasA and M. Does that happen?
Can that happen. I don't know. I don't know. We're just gonna
have to wait and see. Coachand black guys have Minnesota. They are
really struggling right now. High Statefinally getting the offensing gear. How does
Saturday's four o'clock game on BTN inthe Shoe go for the Buckeyes? Coach,
what do you think? Yeah,we got a five and five Minnesota
(48:04):
team comes to the number two tenand oh twenty seven and a half point
favorite on the Big Ten Network Saturdayafternoon. It's hard to believe. This
is PJ. Fleck and row yourboat, seventh season at Minnesota. We
don't need to get very deep withthis. You're going to see a four
to three defense, which is reallythe strength of the Minnesota football team.
(48:27):
Offensively eleven twelve, ten person Now, they're multiple, but they're one hundredth
in the in the country in scoreoffense, they're averaging twenty two and a
half. Twenty two and a halfpoints is not beating O High State.
But when I speak highly of thestrength of this team is the defense.
Last week against Perdue and a fortynine to thirty loss on the road,
(48:50):
Minnesota allowed six hundred and four yardsthree point fifty three on the on rushing
Wow, so that they're coming offa horrible week defensively, this offense is
led by Athan cali acmanis he struggled. They struggled mightily on third down thirty
five percent. Again, that's alsoone hundredth in the country offensively, and
he has been sacked seventeen times. So you expect to see the Buckeye front
(49:15):
four have the ability to get home. And he's only throwing thirteen touchdowns to
seven interceptions. Now this was quick. This is called rents and repeat.
I could have brought the same ideasand notes of last week's matchup against Michigan
State. Very similar fast start whichwe got last week. Yeah, got
(49:37):
them off the field, get guysin the game and out of the game.
You would love to as a Buckeyefan see stacked two weeks in a
row. But col McCord has animpressive day like he did last week.
You want to see another game wheretheir defense limits explosion plays because they haven't
been given them up. And you'dlike to see an offense that can and
(50:00):
use to not turn it over andwith a big asterisk, keep getting Marvin
Harrison junior the ball. Let's havehim have another huge week that continues to
propel him with the possibility of beinga Heisman Trophy winner. Only other two
things that again rinse and repeat seetakeaways another week without them, And let's
(50:23):
see finally a special special team playthat you can point to and say,
Okay, we got one, becauseyou may need that next week. We're
not going to look ahead, becausethat's not what coaches do. But no,
I fully expect a comfortable win.You just want to see another fast
start by the buck eyes supposed tobe bright sunshine on Saturday, but cold.
(50:49):
I would love to see all ofthe number ones off the field by
the time it gets dark, becauseyou and I have lived in our entire
lives on a day like that. That's got a higher round forty five.
As soon as as that sun goesdown, it's gonna get real cold,
real fast, because it's just aclear, beautiful November day. And I'd
love for those guys to be wearingjackets on the sideline and not worrying about
(51:10):
getting hurt by by the time itgets dark. Yeah, well they better
do it by five thirty. Theygot an hour and a half. They
got an hour and a half.Got an hour and a half that didn't
stink to go home. I knowit's from work and it's dark. It's
dark. It's done. Yeah,So you work all day in your office
and then when you walk out ofthe office, it's as the sun set
(51:30):
is upon You're gonna go home tobeautiful Christmas lights on your trees with a
smile on my face, even ifI don't mean it. And Michael Boublay
on the stereo, I get it, brother, Thank you so much.
Great stuff again today. Enjoy thegames this weekend. Enjoy being out at
Harding Stadium Friday night with your friendsand watch yeah first and enjoy Spartan tip
off my wife's team and the boysbasketball team and uh and then we're gonna
(51:54):
try to hustle over and cheer onBell Fountain. And if the weather's that
bad, I may be with youwatching another high school game on my couch.
Yeah. They're talking ninety percent chanceof rain during the day, maybe
a half an inch of rain andsome downpours, but clearing by the time
we get into the evening. Solet's hope it is dry, the skies
(52:15):
dry, the fields are not goingto be dry for Friday nights, so
take care. I'll see you nextweek. If you're just finding this show,
it is The Oh Show on iHeartRadio. Make sure you hit follows so
you get a notification every time wepost a new one, and share it
