March Madness Costs Billions in Productivity

The madness isn’t just on the court—it’s also in the workplace. A new survey suggests that March Madness could cost the U.S. economy $20 billion in lost productivity. From employees getting “distracted” on the clock to the 40% of people who admit to calling in sick just to watch games, the tournament has a real impact beyond just busted brackets.

Drake’s Label Turns on Him Over Kendrick Beef

Drake is suing Universal Music Group, accusing them of favoring Kendrick Lamar’s diss track Not Like Us—a song that straight-up calls him a pedophile. But Universal isn’t having it. In their legal filing, they argue that Drake is only suing because he “lost a rap battle that he provoked” and is now throwing a lawsuit-sized tantrum. Even if you’re Team Drake, this might not be his best move.

Seaweed Hair Extensions: The Future of Beauty?

A Maine entrepreneur is making headlines with a seaweed-based alternative to synthetic hair extensions. Traditional extensions contain chemicals like lead and carcinogens, posing health risks to users. This new eco-friendly option could help reduce plastic waste in the beauty industry—while still making a whole lot of money. Will seaweed be the next big beauty trend? Time will tell.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
How's your bracket looking blank?

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Pretty good?

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Real good.

Speaker 3 (00:17):
You haven't until Thursday to get your brackets filled out.
But it is that time of year again, March madness.
And now we actually know the impact that it has
on our economy. Really, after seeing that headline originally, I
was like, it must be boosting it, right. People are
at bars, they're ordering food and drinks, and they're going
out merch.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
I don't know, but.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
Apparently it makes us lose billions of dollars. Really, yes,
sports betting and media have said that it's because about
twenty million dollars actually a billions because of lost work productivity,
people pay out sick people that are distracted.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
While on the oh yeah, people will literally be watching
the tournament all day at work on their phone or
on their computer and keeping it minimized.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
From the Boss.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
Around forty percent of these people that were surveyed said
that they've called in sick just to watch a game.

Speaker 4 (01:05):
Really, the guys at our sports station last year they
had me fill out a bracket while I was on
air with them, just to see how they would do.
And they text me this year they're like, hey, you
want to fill out at of the bracket And.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
I'm like, yeah, I do. I did so good last year.
They're like, no, it's just funny. Oh okay.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
I feel like the people that do the best, though,
are the ones that are just like, I like that name. Ooh,
I like colors because that's what I did one time
years ago and I won the jackpot.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Wait, congrats, that's a nailing. I know that was like
when Vanderbilt was good.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
I don't remember what's going on now, but back then
it was anyway, So why not fill it out? You
got nothing to lose except for billions of dollars for
the country. Oh. So Drake is getting trolled now by
his record label. Really, we just got to keep following
the story because it just keeps getting weirder.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
So he owned his record label or like he was
a part of it.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
Well, he has his own like branch, but he's it's
owned by Universal, so Universal Music he's been suing because
he says that they were neck with for promoting Kendrick's.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Song so hard because they talked so bad about him.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
But the record label has since said, Okay, you started
this good, you feel bad about it, so you're just
trying to like salvage any bit of pride that you have,
and we're trying and they're trying to get it completely
thrown out.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
Yeah, you started it, Drake. Kendrick didn't just come at
you out of nowhere, you know what I mean. Like,
that's the thing that bugs me about Drake complaining about it,
is like you're the one that stepped up and said
something first, and then Kendrick just finished it big time.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
Really I didn't even know that.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Yeah, dang, And then the record labels like, and you're
suing your own record label.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
It's funny because what the original one was. It was
Drake and Jake Cole was on the song, and Jake
Cole dissed Kendrick and then Kendrick got upset about it. Obviously,
well you know what, you know the rest of the story.
But Drake stuck by what he said, and j Cole
apologized immediately and was like, no, that's not what I meant.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Like, well, Jake Cole was smart. He's like, I'm not
messing with Kendrick. Wow. And this will be a lesson
in history for the rest of time.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
And lastly, there is a mariner who has decided a
mariner as in like a marine person, an entrepreneur that
works in marines.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
Has decided to find a way to create.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
Synthetic hair extensions by using seaweed. So the seaweed based
extension aims to solve the problem by using natural ingredients
that are safe for humans, better for the environment.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
That for years on the beach, put on my head
and I come out of the water a mermaid. Beautiful mermaids.

Speaker 3 (03:31):
And when you take it off, you've got the little
crash beautiful.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
Yeah, look everybody, it's a mermaid. And then I jump
in the water and then I come out with seaweed.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
On my head. Who's the jubil under the sea?

Speaker 3 (03:44):
Well that he does say that it's providing a stylish
and functional option for people who use hair extensions seaweed.

Speaker 4 (03:49):
But sounds like it's these copping jewbles, right, Yeah, exactly obviously.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
Yeah, well now you can just go ahead and make
some cash off that because you were first.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
But that's what's trying to guys,
