Toby and Chilly Mornings on Demand on ninety seven point one,
chaf out.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Once again the routine is out the window because it's
another snow day, only there's not going to be as
much snow today. However, I see conditions in the neighborhoods
and more. We'll keep you up to speed with everything
you need to know. Good board it and welcome to Tuesday,
January seventh with Toby and Chilly in the morning. Here
at ninety seven point one wasch FM.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
Who is your drive in today a little bit better
than yesterday?
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Yes, you know, it really was. It was I called
you after I almost like slid into a pole and
then I was behind these trucks. Well, I went for
a ride to pick up some breakfast earlier this morning,
like right like right before I called you. Yeah, And
I went up to uh, what's it called Germantown or
(00:46):
Gaithersburg or whatever it is, and I went to the
twenty four to seven I Hop which was open, and
got myself some hot chocolate. Oh nice, And it was
you know, here's here's the one thing I will say.
There are people who don't know how to drive in
this that's right. They're the dangerous ones. Yes, like I
grew up in the Pocono Mountains, I learned.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
No, No, it is true.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
And you know it's funny because somebody I was cleaning
my drive out with yesterday told me this. It's these
people who moved to town for politics that he every
two to four years and they don't know how to
drive because they're coming from like Florida. And I'm like,
that's an excellent point.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
All so, if you work in politics, the federal government
is closed today, so you really don't.
Speaker 4 (01:24):
Know that's true. There is that that is true? Oh yeah,
I had a day of liberal leave.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
My walkover from the hotel was fine. I did keep
in touch with my eleven year old at home yesterday
and he went out sledding with some of his friends,
and then, of course, in true Donado fashion, was complaining
about how overheated he was, how his dad dressed him
for the snow. But hey, I get to deal with
it today when I go home.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Well, you know, I can tell you're probably really looking
forward to it. But you know, for Donado, it's like, hey,
memo to Donado, you'll understand this later. If not google
it now, were you overheated, would you rather have frostbite?
What is frostbite? Google it exactly, or you don't want it?
Speaker 3 (02:05):
Oh my goodness.
Speaker 5 (02:06):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (02:06):
Or Toby and Chilly in the morning, welcome to a
brand new day here at ninety seven point one? WASHEFM? Hey, next,
I've got this idea that I think rideshare services need
to adopt when we have snow days like this. Okay, yeah,
I'll give us like ten minutes. We'll tell you more
and then we'll direct letters and tweets and whatnot till
all of the rideshare's luber lift and all of them.
That's all right. So I've got lyft on x formerly
(02:29):
known as Twitter, and I've got Uber ready to go.
I'll just actually tweet them both this one tweet. Can
we do we even call them that? It's ninety seven
point one? Washef And we're Toby and Chilly in the
morning on a snow day. But I've got this scamer
lamading dong idea that might be a great side hustleway
for people who have certain vehicles to make money.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
Okay, And is this related to weather?
Speaker 2 (02:49):
Yes? In fact, I was thinking of it yesterday on
the drive in when I almost wrecked my own car
because it just was there. It was a lot, right,
But I noticed there were certain vehicles that we're doing
fine four wheel drive, legitimate four wheel drive vehicles like
jeeps or military hummers or big trucks, and I was
(03:10):
thinking that Lift and Uber should create a category like
they have Uber Black if you want to take a
limo somewhere or that kind of experience, well they should
do that during these weather emergency type things, four wheel
drive vehicles, charger, surge price. The drivers will make money,
Uber will make money, Lift will make money, and you'll
get to where you need to go and you'll conquer
(03:32):
the snow. And I think there's something there.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
Except that we don't get enough snow for that person
to really be that busy. I mean, I think what
happens honestly naturally, though, Toby, is if you're an Uber
or Lyft driver, you're not even going to take rides
unless you think your vehicle can handle it well. So
in theory, don't you think it's weeding itself out already
with the jeep owners of the lyfts. I mean, I
(03:56):
know what you're saying, though, that would be very specific category. Yeah,
we lived in New England, or a place we get
a lot more snow maybe, But yeah, I.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
Just think like if you you know, and if you
choose them, it puts you to the top of the list,
so they come to pick you up right away. I
mean cause you know, like yesterday, I wouldn't have driven in,
you know, had I known what I called, I would
have called a jeep uber to come get me, or
a lift up four wheel drive truck, not all wheel
drive because that's not four wheel drive. But the bottom
line is, I don't know if they'll follow my advice,
(04:28):
but I'm gonna hit them on X anyway and see
if they like it. If they shoot me down, oh well,
nothing ventured, nothing game. Toby and Chilly in the morning
on another snow day in the nation's capital. How you
feeling today, how's your head? Where's your head at? We'll
find out with your morning mindset coming up in just

Speaker 3 (05:00):
That's where we find a quote and share it with
you to get you into a better headspace as you
start today.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
Best to m Kelly says, and this is appropriate for
how the weather's been yesterday and today on another snow day.
Snowflakes are one of nature's most fragile things. But just
look at what they can do when they stick together.
You spent some time probably shoveling it yesterday or maybe
writing a sled down some of it. I don't know,
(05:25):
but Best to m Kelly says, and it's true. Snowflakes
are one of nature's most fragile things, but just look
at what they can do when they stick together. Now,
take that from snow and apply it to life. Look
at what you can do with your teammates when you
just stick together. Think about it and if you need
to read it again, you'll find it the Toby and
chillipage at WASHFM dot com. Now stay right there, because
(05:48):

(06:28):
and a lack of any spousal support post Malone was
clearly in the holiday spirit when he went to a

the highly anticipated Britney Spears biopic after he was tapped

he is going to do Britney justice and tell her
story right, and that Britney herself is going to be
very involved. And that is your show.

Remember you get the news top stories at the top
of the hour when you listen every weekday morning to
Toby and Chilly in the Morning. Here a ninety seven
point one WASHINGFM coming up in just a few minutes,
in fact, less than twenty minutes. Very cool run in,
unexpected run in and did something that well became one
of those you couldn't have planned it moments. What was it,
(09:40):
who was it with, and how did it happen? You'll
find out in a few don't go any It's Toby
and Chilly in the Morning, ninety seven point one wash
FM on this another snow day in the Nation's capitol,
yesterday being our first like big kind of snow day,
you know, in this town, on random snow days, unexpected
things just kind of happen, and this one is distinctively
these chili. I decided to take Rockville Pike home after
(10:03):
the show because I knew that it would be clearer
than other roads. So as I'm heading north, I cut
through the city of Rockville. There's a giant on the right,
the post office is on the left. I just was
kind of like making notes that you know. Okay, well
it looks clear here, but getting in and out of
those parking lots was kind of a thing. I mean,
they hadn't really cleaned those yet. But I spotted a
(10:24):
tesla stuck in the snow. There was a truck that
had pulled over, and there was a guy rummaging around
in the back of the truck, and he pulled out
a couple of boxes, and I take it he was
going to help to get this tesla out of the
ice and snow. Looked over, made eye contact with the guy.
It was Jose Andres.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
Jose Andres, the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Speaker 2 (10:46):
DC's humanitarian chef in that World Central Kitchen truck.
Speaker 3 (10:50):
So Jose had stopped to help this tesla who was stuck.
Correct you, if that hadn't been Jose, would you have
kept driving.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Or what?
Speaker 6 (11:02):
No.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
I probably would have helped that guy, just because that's
one of those things that you do, and we're a
better community when we help each other. But I never
in a million years would I have thought that I
would have bumped into Jose Andres on Rockville Pike in Rockville,
the guy who just won that presidential Medal of Freedom. Right,
and then I would get out of my car and
(11:22):
work side by side, shoulder by shoulder with this humanitarian
man to push this tesla out of the ICE's now.
And you know, it was one of those moments where
you don't take a picture of it because that just
wouldn't have been cool. No, yeah, hey, let's stick a
sophie because you're Osian race and I just helped you
push this tesla out of the ice.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
You know, tesla driver? Know who he was?
Speaker 2 (11:41):
I don't know. Oh okay, I don't know, but I
did crack a joke that guy because the kid goes
he was a younger guy. He goes, he goes, don't
buy a Tesla, And I said, you really want to
have a phone with it? Why don't you whip your
phone out and take a picture of the two of
us and tag elon with it?
Speaker 3 (11:55):
Oh yeah, right? So did he make sandwiches because you
know the World Central Kitchen, I'm Andres loves to feed
people that are in need.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
No, and I didn't even ask him if he could
hook a brother up with some reservations at the bizarre
you know, but he's really a humanitarian at heart, and
just to see. I don't know what he was doing.
Maybe he was just out there doing that to help people.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
Of course he was just he I that's exactly what
he means.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
We need to flow this man, because I mean, for
just the split second, I felt like I was serving
meals for those who were in Haiti after the place
was ravaged by UH.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
They're always looking for volunteers World Central Kitchen.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
You know what, Sign me up, Chef Jose Andreas. I'm
happy to work side by side with you again.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
Toby and Chilly's nearly impossible question.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
All right, the game is on. What's the question today?
Speaker 3 (12:46):
The average person checks this nearly one hundred times a day,
and we'll give you a hint. It is not your phone,

It's not the phone, But what is it? Kyle?
Speaker 4 (13:53):
What time is it?
Speaker 3 (13:56):
Would you be one of those people?
Speaker 7 (13:58):
No, it just makes it day go slower.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
I bet you do. Though. Look you don't know how
many times you're glancing at the watch. You don't know
how many times you're glancing at that phone. You probably
do it subconsciously.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
It could be well, it doesn't matter. Check your watch
and check the date and then save the date because
you're going to go see Mary J. Blige. That's the
right answer. Congrats, Yes, thank you, Ken just hooked you

Speaker 1 (14:33):
Top stories, top of the hour.
Speaker 3 (14:35):

because of the weather. Metro buses are going to start
the day operating under your Severe Weather Service Plan. Metro

in a joint session yesterday. Lawmakers finalized it as part

which now allows them to redevelop and possibly build a

and according to a recent survey of pet owners, forty
four percent have created resolutions for their pets, including exercising
more and cutting back on their treats, and they also
want to spend more time outside and take better care
of their help throughout the upcoming year. Forecasts for today

although with the wind chill, that's going to feel like

Speaker 2 (16:09):
Sounds like good weather for a snowball fight, and it's
really good weather for another snow day. I know the
kids are out of school. There's probably some sledding in
your futures, so let's talk about it. Eight sixty six
nine two seven forty three sixty one is the number
you can also use talkback if you're down with technology
on the refreshed iHeart app. Have you seen how new
it is? It's amazing. It's free at your favorite app store.
Jump in and tell us all about what you used
(16:32):
to use to go sledding that wasn't to sledge something creative,
like the creative thing. You know, you went out of
the box on this what was it? What have you
gone sledding? And then you could admit it to the class.
We'll talk in a few There were snowball fights yesterday
and I saw kids in my neighborhood getting there sled on.
It was very peculiar though, some of the things that
(16:52):
were taking to use as sledge ninety seven point one
WATCHFM whre Toby and Chilly in the morning. Did you
see anybody sledding yesterday?
Speaker 3 (16:58):
My son? But he you know what, we got one
of those like inflatable sleds. You can either do the
hard sled or you can do one of those like
big raft looking things that go really fast, and that's
the one we got for our son.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
I've used a tire inner tube to go down before
when I was growing up in the Poconos. I've used
a trash can lid to go down a hill when
I was growing up in the Poconos and there was
some snow there.
Speaker 3 (17:22):
Well, my parents were so cheap we never got to
have a sled. Instead, my mom would hand us each
like one of those big black glad trash bags.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
Oh lord, the contractor size one.
Speaker 3 (17:33):
Yes, and we would get ourselves into them like a
potato sack, sit down and just go down the hill.
Speaker 4 (17:39):
That was our version back in the day. It was
so much fun to sled Yes. That begs the question
have you been sledding? Eight six six, nine two seven
forty three sixty one is the number where Toby and
Chilly in the morning. The talkback microphone is wide open
for you too, if you're using and listening to us
on the updated iHeart app.
Speaker 3 (17:57):
Yeah, what is the most creative thing you've used to
go down that hill?
Speaker 2 (18:01):
Takomba Park, Raoul, you grew up here. What's up?
Speaker 6 (18:05):
My mom would put me and my brother into a
laundry basket and then just like push us down the
hill and we'd be hagging on for dear life every
time we hit a bump. It really is a miracle
we didn't get hurt.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
I believe in miracles when you are sledding in laundry baskets.
I've never done that, but I've always been too big
for the laundry basket. Raoul, thank you for the call
on that eight sixty six ninet two, seven, forty three
sixty one.
Speaker 3 (18:30):
We want to know what other unique items you've used
to have a lot of fun in the snow.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
Tell us everything. We're gonna get back into this after eights.
But next though, another one of your crazy first date stories,
crazy good or crazy bad. And this one today.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
Lilyan Andapolis showed up to your dates place. It was
full of birds.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
No really, tweet tweet you don't want to miss this.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
May Kellby and Chilli's Cundy.
Speaker 2 (18:58):
For a date in Naptown. Lily, good morning. Tell us
about this crazy first stage you've been on. We want
to hear this story.
Speaker 5 (19:05):
So I was new to the area, you know, wanted
to meet some people. So I went on an online
dating site. I chatted with this man. He was a
retired attorney. He was really funny and nice and smart,
and so we decided to meet. He gave me an
address to meet him in Baltimore. He lived over by
Johns Hopkins. I get there and it's not like a
real address, it's just an intersection.
Speaker 1 (19:28):
So I sent him a text message.
Speaker 5 (19:29):
I'm like, hey, I'm here, but there's nothing here, and
he says, oh, just a minute, just a minute, and
I see this guy come running down the sidewalk like
in front of all of these old brown stones, and
he's like it's me, And I'm thinking this is really weird.
And so he convinces me to come to his house.
And I'm like, this is crazy, but I'm a nice person.
I think well of people. So I follow him his house.
(19:52):
We walk inside. There's no furniture in the house except
for a camp chair and cages. And cages is a
bird like little parent keets and they're just tweeting away
and they cages haven't been cleaned. He runs upstairs. He
comes downstairs like, I got my stuff.
Speaker 1 (20:11):
We go out, we have.
Speaker 5 (20:12):
The date, We go lunch, we go to the museum,
We come back, and the whole time I'm thinking, oh,
good lord, how am I getting out of this. At
the end, you know, I say goodbye, say thank you,
go about my married business.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
So had he just moved into this place and was
trying to furnish it well.
Speaker 5 (20:28):
He had told me that he'd lived in this brownstone
for like forty years.
Speaker 2 (20:32):
That's very odd. Did you ever find out what all
the birds were for?
Speaker 5 (20:36):
You know?
Speaker 1 (20:36):
I was kind of afraid to ask, like what do
you say?
Speaker 5 (20:39):
Like Hey, man, what's with all the birds?
Speaker 3 (20:42):
Yes? You do, yes, yeah, clearly you're not interested. Did
he try to contact you after that first date?
Speaker 5 (20:51):
Well, he texted me a few times and I did
not respond. Finally he sent like the final text and
it said, I guess you didn't have as good a
time as I did.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
Lily, did you move on with somebody who had more
than just birds going on?
Speaker 5 (21:04):
I did end up with a guy that I had
known some time ago, and we just rekindled and.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
He had a fully furnished apartment or home, right, holly furnished, nice, right,
really cool, sylby and chilly in the morning.
Speaker 2 (21:16):
Hey, Chili, what's the prize if you call now and
tell us the crazy first State story at eight six, six, nine,
two seven three sixty one.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
Tickets to go see Shakira Nationals Park, May thirty first,
thanks to Live Nation.
Speaker 2 (21:29):
All you have to do is tell us a story
about a crazy, good or bad date.
Speaker 1 (21:33):
Holler now, Top Stories, Top of the Hour.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
The federal government in schools closed again today because of
the weather. Flights expected to resume at Reagan National Airport
this morning. Reagan National, by the way, led to us
and canceled flights yesterday, followed by Dulles and Bwi. They
were all local airports. Members of Congress and other dignitaries
are going to be joining former President Jimmy Carter's family
at a private ceremony after his boy arrives in DC
(22:01):
this afternoon. He will then lie in state in the
Rotunda until his funeral at the National Cathedral this Thursday.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau resigned as leader of his
Liberal party, but he's going to remain prime minister until
a new leader is chosen. President Biden signed into law
a bill that transfers the land that includes the old
(22:23):
RFK Stadium from the federal government to city control. So
the next step is to potentially pave the way for
the Washington Network, Comhamas and Nationals Washington Commanders to return
to d C with a new stadium. Frederick County health
officials are looking for three boys who may have had
contact with a groundhog on December thirty first in the
(22:44):
Bounder Creek neighborhood. Health officials want to find the boys
and make sure they were not exposed to rabies. And
according to a recent survey, nearly half of Americans carry
a spare pair of underwear with them well, just in case.
Twenty percent of those who carry the extra underwear say
that it has come in handy in the past on average,
(23:06):
as people are holding on to old underwear for about
three years orcast for it. Today partly cloudy and windy,
very cold, thirty five the high, although it's going to
feel like it's in the teens right now twenty in Leesburg.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
Let's talk about you and going sledding on what what
creative thing did you use as a sled so you
can enjoy a snow day much like kids and young

sort of strange things you've gone sledding in.
Speaker 3 (24:11):
Yeah, you talked about trash can lids, and I talked
about trash bags as our sleds as kids.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
I still think your mom was brilliant for the trash
bag thing, because you know what, I could see that
that would have been just so much fun.
Speaker 3 (24:22):
Who do we have hanging on the line, jan You're
part of the show in Rockville.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
You're hired, So tell us what did you go sledding in?
Speaker 1 (24:29):
Well, Back in.
Speaker 7 (24:30):
The nineteen seventies, it was very common for college students
to run to the dining hall when they saw snow
and grab a tray and go down the hills on
dining hall trays. And that was fun until one day
we found an old refrigerator door. Lord knows why or how,
but there was an old refrigerator door wedged in the trees.
(24:51):
Besides flather Hall and everybody the best place to sled
at Catholic University in the nineteen seventies was the flather
Hall Hill. So we grabbed this refrigerator door and it
was like a toboggan. We could put six of us
on this refrigerator door. It even had little I mean
imagine a door with a little shelves. It had like
(25:13):
little seep for us, and there was a bump halfway
down the hill. Well, that refrigerator door was wonderful for
the first ten or twelve rides, and then it started
breaking apart every time we'd go over the bump, so
we ended up all going our own ways. But it
is one of my finest memories from my undergraduate days
at Catholic.
Speaker 3 (25:32):
You oh, my god, Jenny, that is so fantastic because
the way you described it, I could totally imagine it,
and you may have inspired some people to take apart
some old fridge doors. Didn't give it or go. I
can't believe you guys didn even hurt yourselves.
Speaker 7 (25:46):
Oh I can't say we didn't get hurt.
Speaker 3 (25:48):
I can say we had a blast.
Speaker 7 (25:49):
Okay, we had so much fun. When you're in college
and you're like an old teen, young twenties whatever we are,
you know, college is seventeen to twenty one ish. You
get hurt and you don't think about it until you're inside,
drinking the hot chocolate and going, oh wait, that was
so much fun and so much pain, but it's all
worth it.
