Toby and Chili Mornings on demand on ninety seven point
one wash Up Out.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Every day is a new day. You've got to be
thankful for every breath you take. To paraphrase a song
by a band back in the day called Pod Toby
and Chilly in the morning, It's ninety seven point one
wash FM today, I've got Joy Chili. Do you know
why do you see this?
Speaker 3 (00:18):
What is this?
Speaker 2 (00:19):
It's not unscript but I want you to smile. Oh okay,
So you know how I've been. You and I off
the air have talked about how my significant other went
Marie Condo on steroids on my house.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
Yeah, you declutter it.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Well, every day is like Christmas now because I've been
going through some of the bins with stuff on it.
I apparently got this polaroid camera somewhere along the line
and I never had opened it, and then i found
it in the box in one of the bins and
I'm like, wait a minute, and I'm like, this is
the best ever because it's like a legitimate old school polaroid.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
I think I blinked. That's cool.
Speaker 4 (00:52):
I love that my cousin, who's a photographer, has a
polaroid camera that she brings to every family event. Obviously
we also do digital pictures. Yeah, but one of a
favorite things she does is walk around and take polaroids
of us at gatherings and then people like pick the
one they like because you know, there's no copies.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
You just cat you can't.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Know Texas, it's actually it's actually cool. And you know,
speaking of photography, I was kind of prompted remember this
when I was home in Texas because my family's business
is photography. When my grandparents were alive and there's the
house has a bunch of vintage cameras in it, and
my dad was talking about how polaroids had come back,
and I'm like, polaroids never went away. And then I'm like,
(01:33):
wait a minute, so I've got this polaroid. Then I've
got another polaroid I got from Southwest Airlines because for
whatever reason, they feel like I'm an influencer.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
The only thing is it's chunky.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
It's chunky, but it's fun. It's not meant to be
for Instagram. Yes, it's meant to be for you and
a memory that only you and whomever is in the
photo can take. But anyway, little things like that bringing joy.
What about you this morning.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
I love the fact that I have a steering wheel
heater because it's thirteen degrees.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Oh Lord, have mercy and.
Speaker 4 (02:02):
Get in the car today. My god, my hands were frozen.
But the seat heater is also wonderful. I'm very grateful
for that luxury.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
They have a Haymendo that sister, very grateful. And you've
got your car in a garage, so it's it's automatically
a little bit more warm.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
But it didn't feel that way.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Yeah, you just reminded me that I didn't wear a
jacket and my buttocks felt frozen when I sat down
in my seat. There's no no bueno, no anyway. If
you're feeling good this morning, tell us why eight six, six, nine, two,
seven forty three sixty one is the number, and stay
there because next.
Speaker 4 (02:31):
Okay, so yesterday you were saying how you felt rejected
because your girlfriend didn't want your grandmother's heirloom ring for
an engagement. Yeah, but there's somebody who says, maybe you're
interpreting it wrong.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Well, stay there less than ten minutes, we'll find out
what she has to say. With Toby and Chilly in
the morning, we were talking about engagement rings yesterday with
Toby and Chili in the morning. Did you hear us?
It's ninety seven point one wash FM.
Speaker 5 (02:56):
No.
Speaker 4 (02:56):
Actually, you had brought up to your girlfriend your grandmother's
heirloom wedding ring and she said, no, I've lost rings
before and I don't want to lose that.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
The dejection is real.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
I don't know if it's really a dejection though.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
In Lovettsville. Good morning, Laurie. Your thoughts about this whole
ring debacle.
Speaker 6 (03:18):
Yes, so your girlfriend didn't decline the ray. She declined
the sentimental value of it because she doesn't want to
lose something that is that sentimental to your family. So
another option is to have the ring duplicated. It will
still look just as beautiful on her.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
Hand, Toby, let me ask you. Lorie's saying, get a copycat.
To you, would that be the same?
Speaker 5 (03:46):
No?
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Yes, a three D printed version of my grandmother's priceless
and timeless original wedding ring. Yeah, to me, would just
not be the same. However, I can understand the intent there, Laurie,
and I think it's a very good The intention is
very good, but it just would not be the same.
Speaker 6 (04:04):
He's accepting you, but she is declining the responsibility of
your family's ring.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
She's just taking on the responsibility of me, which is
a big task in it, there's no ring big enough.
Speaker 6 (04:17):
It sounds like it. Yeah, it sounds like he's a
really big responsibility.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
You have no idea. I'm going to need more than
the hope diamond. Quote that'll help you to get your
head into a good space. Your morning mindset quote for
this Thursday morning. On the way next, we're Toby and Chili.

to think about as you take on the rest.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
Of the day.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
Found this from Ralph Waldo Emerson for you this morning.
He says, what lies behind us and what lies before
us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.
What lies behind us and what lies before us tiny
matters compared to what lies within us. The past is
the past. The future is gonna take care of itself,
(05:07):
no matter whether it's good or bad, or no matter
if somebody has an opinion you may not like or
use something that coke. Anything could happen, right, that doesn't matter.
What matters is you and what's in you. And if
you keep your eye on that ball, everything else will
take care of itself. The past is the past, The
future secondary to what's in you. Ralph Wallo Emerson at
(05:30):
your morning mindset for today, the sixteenth day of January.
If it's helpful, share it with somebody. You'll find it
on the Toby and chilipage at washchefm dot com. And
stay there. We've got some entertainment news for you. We
call it Choby's Buzz.

help the wildfire victims in LA He's donating a million dollars.
Several other stars, of course the last few days, have
pitched in to help. They include Beyonce, Paris Hilton, Jennifer Garner,
Jessica Alba, and so many more.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
Drake is suing his.
Speaker 4 (06:20):
Music group Universal Music Group, for defamation and harassment. The
lawsuit stems from Kendrick Lamar's hit song Not Like Us,
centers on a line in the song where Lamar accuses
Drake of being a pedophile. Taylor Swift's The Tortured Poet's
Department has been named the most popular album of twenty
(06:40):
twenty four in the US by the music data tracking
company Illuminate. This isn't the first time this has happened
for her, Nope. Her other albums who have also had
the honor were nineteen eighty nine that was back in
twenty fourteen, and Fearless from two thousand and nine. Chanelle Jones,
who's co anchor of NBC's Today, announced leave from the
(07:01):
show to address a family health matter. She didn't get
specific about it, but she's been absent in recent weeks,
sparking speculation, and Renee Zellweger shared with British Vogue that
her six year acting break was necessary to step away
from her own voice and emotions. During that time away,
Renee says she explored new hobbies like writing music, studying
(07:24):
international law, rescuing dogs, and also starting a production company.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
And that is your show business.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
Good stuff for Toby and Chilly in the morning. The
news is on the way right around six o'clock this morning.
Top Stories at the top of the hour. Stay with us.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
Top Stories Top of the hour, Go ahead and.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
Down, okay, sorry.
Speaker 4 (07:47):
President Biden is warning of an oligarch key that is
taking shape in the US of extreme wealth, power and influence.
In his televised farewell speech last night, he went on
to say that it threatens our entire democracy. Are basic
rights and freedoms and a fair shot for everyone to
get ahead. Two American hostages will likely be released in
(08:08):
the first phase of the Israel Hamas ceasefire deal. The
first phase of the ceasefire will see the release of civilians, children, elderly,
and wounded hostages. Red Dye number three is being banned
by the FDA. In case you missed it, yesterday's move
comes more than thirty years after scientists found links between
the die and cancer in animals. The Arlington County Police
(08:32):
Department will be flying drones in key spots in the
county on Inauguration Day between six am and ten pm.
They're going to be used to identify any security issues
and also help officers who might need some help in
the sky. The Transportation Department going after Southwest and Frontier
Airlines for not being on time. In the lawsuit, DOT
(08:54):
says Southwest flights from Chicago Midway to Oakland, California, and
also from Baltimore to Cleveland arrived late nearly two hundred
times between April and August of twenty twenty two. And
US News and World Report just came out with their
annual Best Jobs rankings for twenty twenty five. For the
(09:16):
second year in a row, nurse practitioner was the best
job overall, and that was followed by it manager. Today,
it's going to be cold, cloudy, highs around thirty seven
right now, only thirteen degrees in Alexandria.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
Next with Toby and chilly in the morning. If you're defrosted,
you'll want to hear this, especially if you've ever had
issues when it comes to coloring your hair. It seems
Chili's onto something that'll help wash that gray right out
of your hair, and she'll share that with us all
and maybe you might learn something about how you can
take care of your hair coming up in minutes with
(09:49):
Toby and Chilly in the Morning. Now, being that I
have long, flowing locks and lots of hair and I
never have any trouble with the hair color fading, I
don't know much about coloring your hair. Okay, that's totally facetious.
Toby and Chilly in the Morning at ninety seven point
one wash FM where you can reach today sixty six
nine two seven forty three sixty one. But Chili, what's
going on with the hair and the roots and coloring?
Speaker 4 (10:12):
So I used to be able to go three to
four months before going to my stylist to get my
roots done and to get my highlights, but the gray
has really taking over. Like I have a lot way
more gray now than I did a couple of years ago,
which means I can't go as long between appointments. But
that's expensive, Like it's expensive north of one hundred and
(10:34):
fifty dollars to go get your roots done, and I'm
starting to feel like there's got to be a way
that I can save money and still have it look decent.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
There is, claireal you can wash that gray right now
out of your hair.
Speaker 7 (10:48):
What.
Speaker 4 (10:48):
That's a very fair thing for you to suggest. But
the color in a box isn't what my root needs
to be, Like, it never gets right, and I have
highlights on top of everything else too.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
Plus I do the spray.
Speaker 4 (11:01):
They have sprays now, Toby, where you could spray your
roots and just get through a.
Speaker 3 (11:04):
Couple of days. That's not starting to be effective.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
So what I'm thinking of doing is calling my stylist
and saying, hey, for these in between root touch up appointments,
can you just mix the color for me and have
me come pick it up and do it myself at home,
and just charge me for the color and not for
the whole service.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
Now, how would you apply it like a spray paint?
Speaker 7 (11:27):
Like?
Speaker 4 (11:27):
No, No, you would apply it like the box. You
kind of shake it it's at a bottom, squeeze it
into your roots, and then you sit with it for
like twenty minutes, and then you wash it out. It's
more work for me, but honestly, if it's gonna save
me one hundred and fifty bucks, I may be doing it.
Speaker 2 (11:44):
And how often do you do that? That's every week
or everything?
Speaker 7 (11:47):
No?
Speaker 4 (11:47):
No, I would probably be able to do it every year.
I would probably have to go like every three to
four weeks to get the root touch up. Yeah, the
highlight appointment, that's still going to be a thing every
three to four months. I'm not talking about the highlight appointment.
I'm talking about just the root touch up.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
Well, these days, to do all we can do to
save this money, things are not getting any cheaper. I mean, eggs,
stuff to color your hair with. There's just no winning
when it comes to this cash grab called life. Well,
if you know, if they'll do it for you, make
sure you let us know, because then other people might
be able to go to their stylus with the same idea.
Speaker 4 (12:19):
They're not gonna be happy with that while you cheap skates,
that's right, Or you're gonna have all those stylists out
in front protesting a Chili amar cost me half my business.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
Shelby and Chili's nearly impossible question.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
All right, let's play the game. What you got this morning?
Speaker 4 (12:34):
Sixteen percent of drivers have hit this object while driving,
especially in the snow.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
What is it? Kylie Minogue? Tickets Capital One Arena in
April up for grabs. Eight sixty six nine two seven
three sixty one is the number. If you want to
go to the show. Call now answer it right? And
when here's the question again.
Speaker 4 (12:52):
Sixteen percent of drivers have hit this object while driving,
especially when they're driving in snow.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
What is it?
Speaker 2 (13:00):
Up the phone? Holla, give us an answer. We'll learn
something together and you could win those Kylie Minogue tickets.
Call now the game is on the Answernet.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
Kelby and Chilli's nearly impossible question.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
Good morning in Bristow, Kristin, how you doing today?
Speaker 7 (13:13):
Good?
Speaker 2 (13:13):
Even better now that I'm talking with you, and no
I'm not flirting. Okay, here comes the question from Chili
Yamar one more time for the benefit of those who
might just have joined us and who could who might
have missed it a few minutes ago.
Speaker 4 (13:26):
Sixteen percent of drivers have hit this object while they
were driving, especially in the snow.
Speaker 3 (13:33):
What is it a mailbox?
Speaker 2 (13:35):
Have you hit a mailbox before in the snow or
out of the snow ever in your life?
Speaker 8 (13:40):
Baby, it wasn't even in snow.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
Oh really sounds very familiar. Let's go back to our youth.
Did you ever hit a brick one that required a
stonemason to come out and fix it?
Speaker 6 (13:54):
No, have been like one of those ones in the
country that has.
Speaker 7 (13:57):
Like a woo.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
Oh yeah yeah, yeah, well yeah, not gonna judge on that,
because you know I live in a glasshouse too, m ma'am.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
Both of your experiences have given you great knowledge because yes,
mailbox is the answer.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
Yy, which means you're going to go to Coylie Minogue
Capital One Arena in April. Congrats, Thank you so much,
and be careful around those mailboxes, ma'am. All right, we'll
do all right, and thank you for playing. Congrats on
the win. It's ninety seven point one wash FM. More
tickets to Coylie Minogue tomorrow with another round of your
nearly impossible question. The news is on the way. Top
stories at the top of the hour coming up. Don't
(14:38):
go too far.
Speaker 1 (14:42):
Top Stories top of the hour.
Speaker 4 (14:44):
Well, the Israeli Prime Minister's office claims Hamas is backing
out of some of its agreements in the hostage release
deal that was announced less than forty eight hours ago. Meanwhile,
President Biden, if you missed it, delivered his farewell addressed
to the nation last night. He warned of the rise
of an oligarchy in the US and went on to
(15:05):
say that it threatens our entire democracy. Our basic rights
and freedoms, and also a fair shot for everyone to
get ahead. More confirmation hearings were held on Capitol Hill
yesterday for President elect Tromp's cabinet picks. Florida Senator Marco
Rubio made his case to lead the state Department. A
Northern Virginia basketball coach has been suspended for allegedly using
(15:26):
ineligible players. The principal of Thomas Edison High School sent
a letter to parents saying that the coach led athletes
who did not attend the school play in a tournament
last summer. A footwear company that's made shoes for every
US president since eighteen fifty is displaying some of his
creations in downtown DC. The Johnston and Murphy Presidential Footwear
(15:48):
Exhibit features fifteen pairs of shoes made for current presidents
as well as older presidents like Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, and JFK.
If you want to see, they'll be on display at
the Mayflow Our Hotel until January twenty ninth. And some
young adults appear to be embracing nostalgic quote unquote grandma
(16:08):
hobbies on social media. Millennial and gen Z women seem
to have found comfort in hobbies typically associated with older generations,
like cooking, quilting, and so sewing.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
Thank you.
Speaker 4 (16:22):
Forecast for today cloudy thirty seven, the high right now
fourteen frigid degrees in Rockville.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
Oh, I'm sorry, I was just knitting this scarf.
Speaker 3 (16:32):
That's right.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
We're Toby and Chilly in the morning, coming up in
just a few minutes at eight sixty six nine two
seven forty three sixty one chilling, and I would love
to hear from you if there's something that you've been
holding on to with the hopes that it's going to
be worth something someday. You just know it's going to
be worth something. Don't throw that out. I need it.
It's not hoarding, it's saving long term with the hopes
(16:53):
that may be a be able to cash in. Do
you have that? What is it? Call us, get a
hold of us via talkback, tell us about it and
we're going to talk about it. And just a few
minutes right here, it's Toby.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
And Chili's crazy first date.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
Welcome Sean from DC. Tell us your story.
Speaker 7 (17:09):
I met this girl in school and we kept in
contact over the years, but we were always in another
relationship that we finally decided to pull off the band
aid and I was deployed overseas, but I had a
four day pass. We started talking around Valentine's Day and
I asked her she wanted to come out to my
fortday pass as she met me in Dubai. So our
first date was Dubai on the Palm Island and we
(17:30):
went and just explored the city and went to the
aquarium and everything else. But our first real date in
person was in Dubai.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
Wow, how do you top that microphone drop?
Speaker 4 (17:39):
We went to Dubai and you that seems really risky
because it could have gone really badly. And then she's
kind of I mean not the Dubai's a man plays
to be stuck in.
Speaker 3 (17:51):
But then she'd be stuck there. So how did that
date end?
Speaker 7 (17:55):
So we ended up having a blast and really enjoyed
our time together. And five years later we're married.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
With a little kid. Oh wow, congratulations, and are you
still serving our country wearing the uniform of set on?
I am, I am, thank you for your service, sir,
thank you?
Speaker 4 (18:14):
Did she ever say why? She felt pretty good about
meeting you across the globe for a date? A first
date official one.
Speaker 7 (18:21):
We have been like distant friends, like we had the
same friend groups. We had known each other for probably
fifteen years at that point.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
Was there a moment during that Dubai date where you
looked at her and said, yeah, we can never be
just friends.
Speaker 7 (18:34):
Probably once or twice.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
Yeah, congratulations, your foreign affair really became a happily ever after,
Sir I.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
Did Top Stories, Top of the Hour.
Speaker 4 (18:44):
In his farewell address last night, President Biden warned about
the growing influence of the ultra wealthy oligarchy and the
threat posed by the quote tech industrial complex on American
democracy and rights. He emphasized the danger of power or
in wealth concentration among a small group and potential consequences
if they're left unchecked. Two American hostages will likely be
(19:08):
released in the first phase of the Israel Hamas ceasefire deal.
It will be there will see a release of civilians, children, elderly,
and wounded hostages. Red Dye number three has now been
banned by the FDA. Yesterday's move comes more than thirty
years after scientists found links between the die and cancer
(19:29):
in animals. The Arlington County Police Department is going to
be flying drones in some key spots on Inauguration Day
from six am to ten pm. They're going to be
using it to identify any security issues and also help
officers who might need the help of an eye in
the sky. Virginia is giving its state inspection stickers a
(19:51):
new look. This year's sticker will be green and will
include a holograph state seal and dogwood flowers, as well
as two QR codes. Research highlights just how little Americans
understand about filing taxes. Gen Z's biggest misconceptions are that
students don't have to file and that you can write
(20:11):
off anything as a business expense. Forecast for today, it's
going to be super cold. We might see some flurries
this morning. Highs around thirty seven. Right now it is
seventeen in resting.
Speaker 2 (20:24):
Eight six six ninety seven. Forty three sixty one is
the number. I'm Toby Napolong with Chiliamar. You've got Toby
and Chili in the morning, and we want to hear
from you about something you're holding on to, something you're collecting,
maybe even hoarding because you know it's going to be
worth something someday. Chilly and I were talking about some
of the things that we've got now, we would love
to hear what it is that you have under the
(20:45):
bed or maybe in the back of the closet in
the garage. You don't want to get rid of it,
you know it's going to be worth something. Tell us
what it is and we'll get back into the conversation
coming up in less than twenty minutes. Join the conversation.
We're Toby and Chilly in the morning. Eight six, six, nine, two, seven,
forty three sixty one. Well one here at ninety seven
point one, watch f and the talkback microphones also open.
We've been talking this morning about something you're holding on too,
(21:07):
because you just know it's gonna be worth something some days,
some money. You can sell that on eBay and make
some bank off of it. There anything else you would
add to the list of something you might be saving
for that very reason, chilling, Well.
Speaker 4 (21:19):
The only thing I have, as I mentioned, is this
really cool album from nineteen eighty three when the then
Redskins won.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
The Super Bowl, and it's the entire season.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
If I were going to add anything to what we
talked about a little bit earlier, I'd say I would
probably get rid of all of my platinum memorabilia from
that I got from like the Riba downtown. They make
those platinum records that you always see these artists around.
I've got a few of those. I know somebody who
sold a bunch of his and he made like ten
grand I know they're gonna be worth something someday. God Willing,
(21:54):
Good morning and Bucky's Town, Laaney, what do you got?
Speaker 5 (21:58):
I have my grandmother's coin collection. It's got a bunch
of like old coins.
Speaker 3 (22:03):
How old are we talking about?
Speaker 5 (22:05):
From the early nineteen hundreds, oh g coins, And you
know they're not in the best shape. But due to
the fact that money is completely disappearing, I feel like
they may raise in value because there won't be any
coins around in the future.
Speaker 2 (22:22):
That may be the case, but I will say this,
those coins are probably worth more than the face value
because they're probably actually made of precious metals. Don't ask
how I know. Hello us meant I'm a collector too,
or a hoarder and Landham Dustin, good morning.
Speaker 7 (22:37):
What you got, I'd say, my beanie baby collection still
wait for market to hit.
Speaker 8 (22:41):
You know any data, right, there.
Speaker 2 (22:43):
Are people who are pretty serious about collecting beanie babies.
You want to be able to sell them at auction
show on Netflix, King of Collectibles, you know, thank you,
sir Sujin Lanham. What's up hey?
Speaker 8 (22:53):
When I was younger, I used to play with these
little toys that were simple as take for so much fun.
Speaker 2 (22:58):
Called Kudi pooties Chili. Have you ever heard of that?
Speaker 4 (23:02):
They look like caterpillars and their legs are removable?
Speaker 2 (23:06):
Okay? Well anyways, so sorry about that. Continuing please.
Speaker 8 (23:09):
I found one and I was gonna gift it to
my children, but I was like, what if this is
worth pumping? I know it was a hot deal when
I was younger, so I kept still get it, didn't
open it, and it's worth nothing.
Speaker 3 (23:20):
Yeah. I think most people were avoiding cooties.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
Wrong cooties. That's not the caterpillar you just told me about.
What more?
Speaker 1 (23:27):
Toby and Jilly head over to washupm dot com for
the iHeartRadio app.
