Toby and Chili Mornings on Demand on ninety seven point one.
Maham Toby and Chilly in the morning.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Here on ninety seven point one was Chef m feeling
good on this Friday morning, because what a difference twenty
four hours makes. What a way to finally end the week.
It just feels like it's Friday. I'm looking forward to
just unplugging mentally and physically. It's just been one of
those taxing sort of a week. So you can feel
good that you've made it to Friday today, Chilly, why

(00:29):
are you feeling good?

Speaker 3 (00:29):
It's the last day of January. All those memes out
there that make fun of the fact this is the
longest month, folks.

Speaker 4 (00:35):
It's over after today.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
There you go, So you've made it through one down,
eleven to go. That's right, there you go. Little things
like that make you feel good in the morning. And
if you're feeling good about something this morning, eight sixty
six nine two seven forty three sixty one is the number.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
You know.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
One of the other things that's making me feel good
is I was punching around yesterday on TV because I
had some time, finally some time downtime, uh huh, and
I came across a couple of cartoons that used to
be big when I was a kid, and I was
just taken back to that time when I was like
ten year old Toby watching these cartoons, and I started
to miss certain cartoons about Saturday mornings and whatnot. You

(01:13):
have any cartoons like that that you miss from when
you were a kid, Oh.

Speaker 4 (01:16):
Yeah, plenty, Give me a second, let me think about
my favorite.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
All right, well, you take a second. And by the way,
if you're listening to us this morning and there's a
cartoon you miss from your childhood, let's jump into the
conversation right now. At eight six six nine two seven
forty three sixty one eight six six nineteen seven forty
three sixty one, tell Chilly and I all about that
cartoon you miss from your childhood, and we will talk
about it next on this Friday morning at ninety seven

(01:41):
point one wash FM. Well, good morning, Toby and Chilly.
In the morning here at ninety seven point one WASHFM.
I's punching around like I do sometimes in the afternoon,
trying to find unique new things to watch, and sometimes
those new things to watch are old things, in this case, cartoons,
old cartoons I came across and it made me miss
some of the cartoons for my childhood. Why because there

(02:02):
was just something about Voltron. Back in the day. Vultron
were these robots. They were lyon robots that came together
to form one gigantic Vultron robot, and you couldn't mess
with them. But when they were five individual lions, you know,
they they could be messed with, but they couldn't form
Vultron without the lions. I loved that show. I used
to stay up to watch it.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
Wow, that's see, I didn't know about that one very well. Yes,
Voltron probably not the target demo. No, it was a
boy thing. It was a boy thing.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
But is there something though, because god knows, I wasn't
the target demo for some of these shows. Was there
a cartoon from your childhood that you might miss?

Speaker 3 (02:40):
I think mine is a more mainstream one that people remember. Flintstones.
Oh yeah, yeah, the whole family. I really enjoyed the
whole Cavemn thing. And I'll throw in a second one,
the Jetsons. You know that was the flash forward of
the flint Stone.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
Yeah, that was like a really cool futuristic you know. Oh,
I wonder and I'm a grown up.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
If we're gonna have flying No, it still hasn't happened yet,
but yeah, those two come to mind that I miss
from my time.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
Old school cartoons that you miss from back in the day,
let's talk about it. Eight sixty six, nine two, seven
forty three sixty one is the number, Michael, Is there
a cartoon you miss from back in the day? Good
Morning in Rockville?

Speaker 4 (03:20):
Okay, I would say I missed so many, but Gi
Joe comes to mind.

Speaker 5 (03:24):
I love Ji Joe. You know American heroes.

Speaker 4 (03:27):
That's a good one. What else?

Speaker 5 (03:30):
I used to have watch Thundercasts gm in like all
those cartoons. I miss those.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
Well, fortunately all of those have been made into like movies.
Now it seems to be what happens with some of
the old school cartoons, so you don't have to wander
too far to watch them. Rachel, Good morning in Vienna.
What said old school cartoon that you miss?

Speaker 5 (03:49):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (03:49):
My gosh, I miss the classic Scooby Doo cartoon.

Speaker 5 (03:53):
My sister and I used to watch it and we
would solve all the mysteries. And I really think that's
why I like the murder Mystery podcasts Now.

Speaker 6 (04:00):
I think that was like the genesis of my obsession
with the murder Mystery podcast.

Speaker 4 (04:04):
Ooh well, see, that's an interesting correlation.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
Who knew Scooby Doo? It starts your true crime fixation.

which one do you have today, Oprah Winfrey?

Speaker 2 (04:58):
Maybe you've heard of Oprah? Oprah says turn your wounds
into wisdom. Turn your wounds into wisdom. You might feel hurt,
maybe you don't understand why you got hurt. Maybe you
got hurt because of whatever it is. What it is right,
turn that into wisdom. Just because it hurts doesn't mean
it has to just hurt and you have to just

(05:18):
live with it. Turn what it is that hurts you
into wisdom and let that speak to you as you
go through life. Interesting something to think about this morning
with Oprah. Thank you Oprah. Turn your wounds into wisdom.
Hopefully that help. That's your morning mindset for this Friday,

ninety seven point one wash Chef M. We're Toby and
Chilly in the morning.

Speaker 1 (14:48):
Top Stories Top of the Hour.

Speaker 3 (14:50):
Divers have found the cockpit voice recorder and the flight
data recorder from the American Airlines plane that collided with
an Army helicopter Wednesday nightmultiple agencies or joining forces to
begin pulling the wreckage from the bottom of the Potomac
River in hopes of recovering more bodies.

Speaker 4 (15:08):
About forty have been recovered so far. Now.

Speaker 3 (15:12):
A lack of control tower staffing is reportedly being considered
as a factor in the crash. The source says that
staffing was not normal for the amount of air traffic
and at the time of day. And we're also learning
more about the local passengers who died in the crash.
Apparently seven friends from Maryland were heading back from a

(15:32):
hunting trip in Kansas. The President says that twenty five
percent tariffs on Canada and Mexico take effect tomorrow. Trump
says he has not decided if oil imports are going
to be included. Investigators in Prince William County they arrested
three members of the same family after the death of
a four year old boy in Nanassas. They say the

(15:53):
boy and his five year old were subject to long
term abuse, including being wrapped in tape and denied food
and water. The NSA is now sharing tips on how
to protect your smartphone privacy. They say, just restarting your
phone once a week can help stay safe from hackers.

(16:14):
And I say also advice is disabling your Bluetooth when
you don't need it, and also not using public USB
ports or public Wi Fi. Forecast for today rain high
round fifty three. Right now it's forty and Laurel.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
After the week we've had, we all need something that
gives us all of the fields the good feels on
a Friday, and there's a group, actually it's not a group,
it's a couple of moms at the prompting of some
kids who are doing something this weekend that you can
be a part of that will help those who are
recovering from the fires in Los Angeles in southern California.
It's happening right here in the DMV. In fact, it's

(16:50):
happening in Georgetown, and we'll learn all about it and
who's behind it coming up with Tobe and Chile in
the morning. Stay right there this weekend's something very cool
is happening for those who are covering from the fires
in Los Angeles and southern California right here in the DMV.
And to tell us all about what's going on. Ashley
is here with something we think really brings forth all

(17:11):
the feels On a Friday, We're Toby and Chilly in
the morning at ninety seven point one watchim. So let's
say good morning to Ashley now, who lives in DC.

Speaker 6 (17:18):
Good morning, thank you for having me.

Speaker 3 (17:21):
Ashley, You and another local mom and your kids are
organizing something very special Saturday night.

Speaker 4 (17:28):
Can you tell us about it?

Speaker 6 (17:29):
Yes, we have organized a family dance authon called Dance
for La, where we are raising funds for Baby to
Baby to go to families who are victims of the
LA wildfires. Saturday from three to six at City Tavern
in Georgetown.

Speaker 4 (17:46):
We will have a really.

Speaker 6 (17:47):
Fun event for families to come and gather and dance
away the night while also making cards for first responders
and victims of the fires. And we're really just excited
to show La and some love from DC.

Speaker 2 (18:03):
There are kids who have lost everything, and for these
little ones to be going through that kind of trauma
must really speak to you.

Speaker 6 (18:08):
You know, it really does. And I think because I'm
from southern California, my own children have you know, watched
me suffering, and this really was born out of them
wanting to do something and give back. And I think
it's really important to have these conversations with our kids
and to show them that there are things that we
can do to help those in need. I mean, I

(18:29):
don't think that we understand truly like the depths of
the suffering of what's going on with these children. If
we can have these conversations with our own kids and
show them, you know, that there are little things that
by just like being a helper and showing up in
small ways, it really does.

Speaker 5 (18:44):
Help make a difference.

Speaker 3 (18:45):
You mentioned that tomorrow's event benefits Baby to Baby. What
exactly does Baby to Baby do so that people know
where their dollars are going towards where their support is going.

Speaker 6 (18:55):
Already, Baby to Baby has donated over seven million items
to the victims of these wildfires, from diapers to formula,
to wipes to just critical essential items. They partner with
over four hundred and seventy organizations in La County alone,
and so they're really there, boots on the ground distributing
all of these critical needs.

Speaker 3 (19:17):
The eveng is tomorrow from three to six. Can people
still sign up and wear.

Speaker 6 (19:20):
So there is a link to purchase ticket. We still
have plenty of room. It's a really beautiful space and
we would love to get as many families involved as possible,
and if people aren't able to attend, they can still
click on the link and there's a way to donate
directly to.

Speaker 5 (19:35):
Baby to Baby.

Speaker 2 (19:35):
We'll put a link on the website for you to find.
In the meantime, I hope you guys have a tremendous
event this weekend. It is so good to see DMVs
show up for our neighbors on the other coast.

Speaker 5 (19:45):
Thank you so much, no, and.

Speaker 2 (19:47):
Thank you for doing something that makes us feel good
on a Friday, and thank you for taking the time
to tell us all about it. Coming up with Toby
and Chilly in the morning. Is a hug a bad thing?
Chilli's a hugger, She wonders if she needs to back
off a bit after I guess something went down this week.
You got thoughts you a hugger, Give us a call
and tell us what you feel about huggers and hugging.
Chili is thinking she might need to back off on

(20:09):
being a hugger after something went down recently. She'll tell
us what it is and we'll talk about hugging coming
up in just a few minutes. After a son like that,
I feel like we should talk about hugging. Let's talk
hugging with ninety seven point one wa chef M eight
six six nine two seven forty three sixty one is
the number? Talk back? Also, why it opened so chili?

(20:30):
Why are we going to discuss hugging. What's got you
feel in some sort of way about these hugs?

Speaker 4 (20:35):
Well, I'm a hugger by nature, That's who I am.

Speaker 3 (20:38):
But I need to, I think, tone it down when
it comes to hugging acquaintances.

Speaker 2 (20:42):
Why is this so?

Speaker 3 (20:43):
Last weekend my son had a play date with another kid.
I had never met the mom before this play date.
We show up at the arcade and we said hello,
nice to meet you, and that was just verbal after
two hours of what I felt was bonding because we
talked a lot about the challenges of raising boys and dah.

Speaker 4 (21:00):
Da da da.

Speaker 3 (21:02):
While we're walking out to the parking lot and seeing
our goodbyes, I do what I always do. I put
my arms out and I go, oh, you know, think
it was so nice to meet you, and I walk
towards I take a step towards the person.

Speaker 2 (21:14):
Now, this person had not known you prior to Okay, okay,
so you were just being very presumptuous.

Speaker 3 (21:21):
Maybe well, so she didn't raise her arms up at
the same time.

Speaker 4 (21:28):
It took a.

Speaker 2 (21:29):
Beat, took her a second.

Speaker 3 (21:31):
Yeah, then she came towards me and gave me the hug.
But that slight hesitation made me go maybe, so I.

Speaker 4 (21:40):
Get in the car.

Speaker 3 (21:40):
I'm like, dang it, Chili, don't make assumptions that everybody's
a hugger. Like I'm like, I just you know, just
say goodbye.

Speaker 1 (21:48):
Maybe said hey, I'm a hugger.

Speaker 2 (21:50):
I said, okay, but.

Speaker 4 (21:51):
Then that makes it awkward too.

Speaker 3 (21:53):
So I hope that she doesn't think that I'm some
sort of touchy feely person.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
This is women operate on different rules than guys. For us,
we're very romantic about it. Hey, man, good to meet you.
Good hang, we have to do it again? Sure, all right?

Speaker 5 (22:06):
Man?

Speaker 2 (22:06):
Cool, you'll remember right off?

Speaker 4 (22:07):
Do you fist bump each other? Do you like it?

Speaker 2 (22:10):
Maybe goodbye? Maybe a fist bump. But there's not going
to be like if I just met you, like overdrinks somewhere,
like you know, like founding farmers at the bar. No,
I mean, there's not gonna be some dude on dude
hug because you and I haven't got that relationship yet.
But again, I will say that, Like, like I just mentioned,
women operate under different rules. Y'all refer to each other

(22:31):
in different ways. I could see where perhaps, maybe, however,
that hesitation to me is a red flag. It's like
a warning sign going out and.

Speaker 4 (22:40):
I'm not gonna go for it.

Speaker 3 (22:41):
Next time she can, she can initiate the hug if
she wants.

Speaker 2 (22:44):
Well, I'm not saying you should change who you are,
but I do want to say this. You don't want
to create an awkward situation when it comes to hugs.
And people are very interesting about their personal space, you know,
and when you get into a hug situation, guy, girl,
you're totally walking into their intimate zone. If I met
some woman and I gave her a hug, I would

(23:05):
get the side from my significant other. It'd be like, well,
well no.

Speaker 4 (23:08):
The opposite sex is a different story.

Speaker 2 (23:10):
Yeah. See again, these rules, they're just very different. So
where do you stand on hugs? Are hugs okay? Is
hug hug flirting? Is it okay to go in for
a hug after you've met somebody in you feel just
the moment? Just speak to you? What is your take
on the hug eight six six nine two seven forty

Let's talk coming up. It's Sylvie and Chilly in the morning, continues.

Speaker 1 (23:35):
Stay there, top stories, top of the hour.

Speaker 3 (23:40):

on helicopter traffic and another one checking airplane activity. We're
also learning more about the passengers who were killed. Fairfax

(24:21):
that flight. Also, some of the passengers were skaters connected

with this hug stuff? Anyway? What's in a hug? Where
do you stand? Are you a hugger? No? Do you
feel like there's a violation going on? If somebody asks

(25:36):
you to hug or just goes in with that, y'all, Okay,
is it this difficult? Really? These hugs eight six six
ninety two, seven forty three sixty one? Are you a hugger?
Eights sixty six ninety two, seven forty three sixty one
Toby and Chilly in the Morning in ninety seven point
one WASHFM, asking the question because Chili had a little
internal drama about these hugs earlier this week or earlier,

(25:58):
I guess recently.

Speaker 3 (25:59):
I had a played eight with another kid and the
mom and she and I seem to bond, and afterwards
I kind of opened my arms and went for a hug,
and she had this look on her face, but she continued,
and I'm wondering, maybe I'm a little too much of
a hugger.

Speaker 2 (26:12):
I don't know, Stephanie and Vienna, where do you stand?

Speaker 5 (26:14):
I love a nice hug.

Speaker 1 (26:15):
Let's hug at all?

Speaker 2 (26:16):
You know, tally one for the violation of the intimate
space stop. Thank you Stephanie, by the way.

Speaker 3 (26:21):
Yeah, but the hugging it out to me is also
like if you guys had some sort of a disagreement
with somebody, that's a good way to put closure to it,
like we're good right.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
Well, it's one way to look at it. We'll go
over here to Rachel listening in Rockville, Good morning, thoughts.

Speaker 3 (26:34):
I'm a big say of the fifth bump, Like I
don't want to get too close with you if it's
like I don't know if you bathe or anything else.

Speaker 1 (26:41):
So like, yeah, just bump is fun.

Speaker 2 (26:42):
That's a good point. If you don't know them, then
why would you want to go into that intimate space
the hug zone as it were.

Speaker 3 (26:49):
Although a fist bump to me has a very bro
feel to it, so I don't I feel weird trying
to do it.

Speaker 2 (26:55):
Speaking of bros, Mike Bro, thanks for listening in Germantown Thoughts.

Speaker 5 (26:59):
I am a hugger, and if I'm with someone that
I don't know if they are hugger, I kind of
like put my arms out as if to catch it
and see if they make a move.

Speaker 2 (27:08):
Sounds like a very sound strategy things for jumping in.

Speaker 3 (27:10):
You don't want them flinching. That's basically what he's getting.

Speaker 2 (27:13):
No, if you're flinching, that means no, it's awkward. I
don't need the hug and we'll go over to Jason,
thank you for listening to us in Woodbridge this morning. Jason,
go ahead.

Speaker 5 (27:21):
Oh, I'm one hundred percent of hugger and and honestly,
I've got a couple of friends who are like, no.

Speaker 2 (27:27):
Don't hug me, but you know they like it. They
like it?

Speaker 3 (27:30):
Do they? Though?

Speaker 2 (27:31):
Are you willing to risk that because these days, with
the way people are, you might catch a case an
HR violation for hugging.

Speaker 1 (27:40):
