this is preview it. I'm not a Swifty, I'm not

Speaker 4 (00:35):
I loved it? I love it.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
I think she's in love and you can hear it
in the music, and I you know, why can't we
all love that?

Speaker 3 (00:43):
All right? So, you previewed a lot of the tracks
on the album or songs on the album. Is there
one that sticks out as your quote unquote favorite so far?
Based on your.

Speaker 4 (00:53):
Quick little I really like would would yeah?

Speaker 3 (00:56):
Like knock on wood?

Speaker 2 (00:58):
She says, yes, and all I could think of when
I was listening to this album, was like, this tour
is going to be so much fun.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
Oh yeah, when she does go on, when she does
go on to it.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
But then you are telling me that might not be
for a while, because you're making some predictions here exactly.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
So Taylor's thirty five, she's engaged. My prediction is she
and Travis will get married within a year and they're
going to work on starting that family after she has
baby number one.

Speaker 4 (01:22):
Oh my god, there's multiple babies before a tour.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
I mean, yes, okay, next time, the next time she
does like a big tour like she just did, yeah,
will be after she becomes a mother, Travis is retired
from football, they go on the road together. I'm telling you,
this is the vision I have. Maybe in the next
two years, give it a couple of years, but that's
what I think is going to happen.

Speaker 4 (01:42):
I don't know that you're wrong about this.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
I hope that this all comes true for Taylor and
Travis if that's what they want, and I think that's
what they want. And again, you listen to this album
and it's just it's just spewing love, which I think
is wonderful and I think we can all use right now.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
And by the way, the song now it doesn't come
into mind, but the State of Ophelia. Yeah, we are
going to the Fate of Ophelia. We're going to play
here after eight o'clock this morning, we're going to debut it.

(05:02):
We just got to get through today. I'm kidd o'she
It's time now for our Morning Mindset.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
And in honor of our best of the eighties Weekend,
which kicks off with Sabrina Kanti at five o'clock this afternoon.
This is a lyric from the song under Pressure by
Queen and David Bowie. In it, they say, turned away
from it all like a blind man sat on a fence,
but it don't work. That's about avoiding tough decisions and
hoping the problems fix themselves, but you know they rarely do.

(05:29):
Maybe you've stayed in a draining job or a relationship
you're afraid to make a move and sitting on the fence. Yeah,
feel safe, but it often leads to more stress. So
it reminds us that facing the issue, even when it's
really uncomfortable, is the only real way forward. Under Pressure
by Queen and David Bowie turned away from it all

(05:49):
like a blind man sat on a fence, But it
won't work or don't work, I should say. You can
find that quote or share your own on the Toby
and Chili page at wash FM.

Speaker 4 (06:00):
Love it coming up next here.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
Yesterday we were talking about who we turned to as
our unlicensed therapist. Chili said a former coworker. I said,
my friend Craig Kat from Silver Spring wants to add
something to the list that we didn't think about, and
this is great advice. We'll share her story coming up
next with Toby and Chili on ninety seven point one
wash FM.

Speaker 4 (06:20):
Good morning, It's Toby and Chilly.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
In the Morning, ninety seven point one wash FM, continuing
our conversation from yesterday about unlicensed therapists that we all
turned to eight six six nine two seven four three
six one.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
I had said that I turned to a workplace colleague
because you know, the stresses of work they can relate
to and somebody to VENTU.

Speaker 5 (06:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
I turned to my friend Craig Cat and silver Spring.
Whether or not he likes it, I turned to him
Cat and silver Spring. Who do you turn to?

Speaker 5 (06:49):
I do feel it is nice to get together with
a friend, someone you know and trust, and just a
nice stick, drink or beer and you just bed once
a week. Sometimes I do go online like Reddit or Google,
so I read a lot of articles with people with
similar problems and it makes me feel better, like, you know,
I'm not the only one, and this is happening out
there and other people are going through it.

Speaker 3 (07:09):
Is there a reason why you don't go to a
licensed therapist.

Speaker 5 (07:12):
I'm on the boat where what is a licensed therapist
going to tell me that I don't already know or
my problem is not that serious? Yeah, I just go
on Wan, I read a lot of articles and that's
good enough for me.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
Thank you so much for being a part of the showcast. Bye,
have a great weekend.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
Thank you. And that makes a lot of sense.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
You know, therapy is really meant to try to shift
your your way of thinking and maybe give you a
different perspective.

Speaker 4 (07:36):
And yes, if you can read about it, and.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
That's true seeing an online forum of people going through
similar things.

Speaker 2 (07:41):

Chilly in the morning. I'm kiddoshe thank you for starting

Speaker 6 (08:47):
Top Stories, Top of the Hour.

Speaker 3 (08:49):
The partial federal government shutdown enters its third day as
lawmakers blame each other for the stalemate. Meanwhile, the President
and the OMB director are reviewing agencies for potential cuts
during the shutdown. Cyber experts are warning furloughed workers to
be aware of scammers. They urge people to delete unsolicited
messages or hang up on suspicious calls, and never share

(09:11):
your personal information or pay fees to strangers that are
offering to help. President Trump has formally declared an armed
conflict with drug cartels. This is according to a confidential
notice that was sent to Congress. It follows US strikes
on boats in the Caribbean last month that killed seventeen people.
According to a recent report, nearly forty percent of the

(09:34):
thirty five hundred arrests tied to the federal law enforcement
crackdown in DC are immigration related. Although the President framed
the operation as a violent crime crackdown, many arrests involved
immigrants targeted by ICE for civil immigration violations. Montgomery County
Police they are easing recruitment by allowing new recruits to

(09:57):
earn the previously required sixty college credits while attending the academy.
Partnering up with the University of Maryland Global Campus, The
department offers these credits at no cost to recruits during
their training and MMA superstar Connor McGregor has announced his
return to the octagon for a special UFC event that

(10:20):
set to take place on the White House South Lawn
next June. McGregor says he is dedicating six months to
training with fighter weigh ins that are scheduled at the
Lincoln Memorial Forecasts four today sunny sky's highs around seventy

Speaker 2 (10:40):
And I'm kido'she coming up next. Do you get annoyed
when you can't get through to customer service? There's a
new article out with tricks to getting through to a human.

Speaker 4 (10:49):
Yes, will they work? We'll share them with you.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
Coming up next till me untilly in the morning, ninety
seven point one wash FM. We have a list of
tricks you can try to get through to a human
when calling customer service.

Speaker 4 (11:02):
Tell me more chili.

Speaker 3 (11:03):
Well, I came across this article that gave you some tips,
and I have tried at least two on the list
and they have worked for me. I haven't asked for this.
They say, ask for a supervisor, phrasing it as someone
who can solve my problem. It's less confrontational, but it
could work, right because if you're not getting what you need,

(11:23):
here is the one that I always go to. Yeah,
you get a phone tree, hit this, if you want this,
hit this. I just keep hitting zeros right and somehow
majority of the time ninety seven point one percent of
the time, Yeah, it does get me to a human.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
See now zero zero zero I've done the zero zero
zero before and then it all of a sudden it
goes goodbye.

Speaker 4 (11:43):
And it's like, you just hang, excuse me, how rude.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
I've never tried this. They say say nothing. If you
don't respond to any of the prompts, many systems time
out and connect you to a human by default.

Speaker 2 (11:56):
I have done that where they're like, do you have
your credit card number or please say it or put
it in and you just don't say anything, and then
it's like it seems like you're like it doesn't hear you.

Speaker 4 (12:05):
So it's like, let's get you an assistance. You need
an assistance. So that does work.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
And then they also say call during off hours like
early mornings or late nights. It's less busy and instead
of just waiting in queue forever, you'll get to a person.
But another thing that I thought that was interesting in
this article, they say, if you want to get a human,
choose an option that involves paying money, okay, because they're like, oh,
this person's gonna do a subscription whatever, and then a

(12:31):
human will answer to gain and oh, no, I'm sorry, I.

Speaker 4 (12:34):
Didn't mean to hit that. I must have hit the
wrong one.

Speaker 6 (12:37):
She'll be in Chile's nearly impossible questions?

Speaker 4 (12:39):
Why mistake? What is today's question?

Speaker 3 (12:43):
The average adult will use or take two hundred and
fifteen of these a year. Oh, what is it?

Speaker 4 (12:52):
Okay?

Speaker 2 (12:52):
Eight sixty six nine two seven four three six one.
To answer our nearly impossible question. That's eight six six
nine two seven four three six one. What's that question again?

Speaker 3 (13:03):
The average adult will use two hundred and fifteen of
these a year. What is it? And I'll give you
this hint. It is health related?

Speaker 4 (13:11):
All right?

Speaker 2 (13:11):
If you guess correctly, you've got Gavin de Graus tickets
at the Lincoln Theater on November twenty ninth. Eight six
six nine two seven four three six one. We'll get
the answer to the nearly impossible question, plus line up
more music for your Friday morning drive in.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
That's next Toby and Chilli's nearly impossible question.

Speaker 4 (13:29):
And I'm kiddo o'shee.

Speaker 2 (13:30):
We are playing for tickets to Gavin de Grau at
the Lincoln Theater on November twenty ninth.

Speaker 4 (13:35):
What's today's question.

Speaker 3 (13:36):
The average adult will use two hundred and fifteen of
these a year. It is related to your health? What
is it?

Speaker 2 (13:42):
Eight six six nine two seven four three six one.

Speaker 3 (13:46):
Good morning in Arlington, Jonathan. You are part of the show.
How are you?

Speaker 4 (13:50):
I'm good?

Speaker 6 (13:51):
How are you?

Speaker 3 (13:51):
We're doing great. You've got the question what do you think?

Speaker 4 (13:54):
The answer is, we're thinking painkillers.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
Like uh, ask brin advil, tail it all.

Speaker 4 (14:02):
Oh, there's a counter painkillers, right.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
Yes, I'm guessing yeah, not prescription. That's a lot of Kilsier.
You know, headaches are very common ailment, sore muscles. I
can see where you might take two hundred and fifteen
aspirin or other pain relievers a year and that is
the correct answer.

Speaker 7 (14:20):
Awesome.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
Congrats You going to see Gavin de Grawe at the
Lincoln Theater on November twenty ninth.

Speaker 4 (14:25):

maybe didn't end so well, but you ended up staying

Speaker 3 (14:56):

friends about it. We want to hear that story right now,
and sharing it will make you an instant finalist to
go see Trans Siberian Orchestra at Capital One Arena in December.

Congressional Democrats are pushing back against threads of mass federal
worker firings during the partial government shutdown after the omb
chief warned of impending cuts. Representative Nancy Pelosi accused Republicans
of using the shutdown as a cover to eliminate jobs
already at risk. Meanwhile, Prince George's county executive Aisha brave Boy,

(16:08):
urged unity during the shutdown, highlighting local and state resources
that are available to affected workers, and she also announced
that major utilities will not cut off service for the
county's roughly seventy thousand federal employees. A woman may face
charges after a viral altercation with a MAGA influencer named

(16:29):
Cam Higbee. This happened outside Union station. Video shows her
attempting to grab his hat during a heated exchange, leading
Higbee to fall and then pepper spray her. She was
later seen being taken away in handcuffs by US Park Police.
Business owners along Columbia Pike and Arlington are frustrated by
the ongoing construction, saying that it is driving away customers

(16:53):
and threatening their survival. County officials say that most of
that work should wrap up by the end of the
day this year. Well, in case you missed it, folks,
Taylor Swift's twelfth album, The Life of a Showgirl, is
now streaming and a video for the lead single, The
Fate of Ophelia is going to be debuting this Sunday,
with additional promotion happening in movie theaters this weekend. And

(17:16):
according to a recent survey, fifty two percent of low
income US households cut groceries or skipped meals just to
be able to afford electricity last year. Many also delayed
medical care, relied on credit cards, or faced shutoffs, with
twenty nine percent enduring unsafe heat or cold. Forecast for today,

(17:38):
it's going to be beautiful outside, lots of sun. Highs
around seventy two right now, fifty one in Germantown.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
And I'm kiddo'she from Good Morning Washington. Coming up next
on Fridays, we'd like to share a feel good story
to put you in a good mood. A Maryland music
teacher is turning her own story of survival into a
powerful lesson in healing one song at a time. Our
field good Friday story is next.

Speaker 4 (18:01):
We hope you're having to get Friday.

Speaker 2 (18:02):
So far, it's Toby and Chilly in the Morning, ninety
seven point one Wash FM. I'm kiddoshe, It's time for
our feel good Friday story.

Speaker 5 (18:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (18:09):
So, Emma g is a music teacher and a songwriter
who lives in Maryland, and she was able to turn
a lifelong connection to music into a very powerful tool
for healing and hope. Emma wrote her first song when
she was just five years old, and her bond with
music deepened as she went through childhood, and it was
marked by medical challenges because she was born with something

(18:29):
called hydrocephalus. It's a condition that causes fluid build up
in the brain and Emma had twenty four surgeries by
adulthood with memory often effect did. Music sort of became
her diary and it helped Emma hold on to moments
and emotions that might otherwise have slipped away. And then
she suffered more tragedy. She lost a former boyfriend to suicide.

(18:50):
And she made a promise to use music to help others,
especially young people, understand their worth and also manage their
mental health. And today Emma fulfills that mission by working
with students across the DC area using songwriting, breath work,
and voice to ease their anxiety and promote self expression.
And through every lesson, Emma reminds her students that their

(19:13):
voices matter and that music can be more than art,
it can be a lifeline. And so we want to
thank Emma g for giving us a very inspiring story
today for our feel Good Friday story and you can
read more about it on the Toby and Chili page
at waschefm dot com.

Speaker 2 (19:31):
All right, Chili, thanks for sharing all that with us.
Coming up next, do you have a home repair that
you've been putting off? Look, you're not alone. Wait until
you hear what Mega Superstar is putting off a home repair.
I'll share that story with you coming up next. Plus
we'll take your calls at eight sixty six nine two
seven four three six one Toby and Chilly in the Morning,

(19:52):
ninety seven point one wash FM. Are you putting off
a home repair? We want to know what it is.
Eight six six nine two seven three one. The reason
we're talking about it I was listening to the podcast
with Jay Shetty on the iHeartRadio app. It's a new podcast.
You talked to Madonna. She doesn't do a lot of
the interviews, and it's a really great podcast, by the way,
you should take a listen to it. But in the
interview she talks about that she's been putting off a

(20:14):
leaky roof for like a month, and I'm like, you're Madonna.

Speaker 3 (20:19):
Yeah you can afford to fix that leaky roof, and
that's a pretty major issue. Yeah, you don't want that
thing falling on your head.

Speaker 2 (20:26):
But it got me thinking, if Madonna's putting off home repairs,
what are we all putting off?

Speaker 4 (20:31):
Chili?

Speaker 2 (20:31):
Do you have a home repair that has been going
on for years that you just kind of push off
to the side.

Speaker 3 (20:35):
I hate to admit this, but one of the railings
on our deck is like you should never lean on
it because you'll fall over and it's not safe at all.
But we don't spend a whole lot of time out there,
so yeah, we're putting off that expense because we can
avoid the deck. But I'll tell you this, if our
roof was leaking, we would have been on top of

(20:56):
that a long time ago. Well that makes me think
the last time I was home that my parents hout.
Same thing with the deck. There's a hole in the deck.
There's like a rotted piece of wood. My mom just
put a little rug over. It's just walk around the
rug please, all right. Tanya in Frederick, how are you
on this Friday morning. I'm good.

Speaker 7 (21:12):
How are you?

Speaker 4 (21:12):
We're great?

Speaker 3 (21:13):
So what is a home repair that you still haven't tackled?

Speaker 4 (21:18):
And why I.

Speaker 7 (21:19):
Need new windows? The ones I have they're old, they're drafty.
But you know, between work and the kids, I just
I don't have time to do multiple appointments and go
through all the installations. And I just haven't had time
to do it and needs to be done.

Speaker 3 (21:35):
Oh yeah, and we're about to head into winter. Yeah,
the drafty windows can really jack up the price of
the electricity, that is true.

Speaker 4 (21:43):
But don't feel bad, Tanya. You're not alone.

Speaker 2 (21:45):
If Madonna's putting off her home repairs, you keep putting
off those home repairs.

Speaker 4 (21:48):
Okay, you got it. Have a great weekend. Thanks for calling.

Speaker 3 (21:52):
I love your shell guys, Thank you, Thank you for listening.

Speaker 2 (24:53):
Well, Swifties already know this, but it's Taylor Swift release day,
and we're gonna play her brand new song. Just releas
going to hear it first here on wash FM. Plus
Why Chili thinks it'll be at least a few years
before we see Taylor on a world tour. We'll explain
why coming up next, Toby and Chile in the Morning,
ninety seven point one Wash FM. I'm kidd o'shee. When

(25:16):
you get to work today, there's a good chance everyone
in the office is going to be talking about Taylor Swift.

Speaker 3 (25:20):
It's going to be all over social media. Her twelfth
studio album, Life of a show Girl, was released at midnight,
and right now we are going to play for you
the first song, the Fate of Ophelia, from that album.

point one wash FM with Toby and Chile in the morning,

Speaker 3 (25:50):
It's a big day for swifties. Her twelfth studio album,
Life of a Show Girl, was released at midnight. I
know you streamed it this morning and you you loved it.

Speaker 4 (25:59):
Right, I loved it.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
I think it spews love, is what I said earlier
this morning, and I think we can all use that
right now. Now you are a resident English major and
you've dug into the lyrics a little bit, Can you
tell us a little bit about the meaning of the
Fate of Ophelia?

Speaker 4 (26:12):
The song we just heard, well, if you.

Speaker 3 (26:14):
Don't know, it's drawing on the tragic figure of Ophelia
from Shakespeare's Hamlet, exploring themes of emotional vulnerability, identity loss,
and ultimate survival, and her lyrics portray a woman who
feels herself unraveling under the weight of a very toxic
relationship or public pressure, echoing Ophelia's descent into madness in

(26:35):
the Hamlet. However, in Taylor's version, it doesn't end in tragedy.
The song shift towards reclaiming you know, agency and suggesting
she was close to the fate of Ophelia, but.

Speaker 4 (26:47):
Someone cribs Kelsey.

Speaker 3 (26:51):
Helped pull her back and gave her the stability to
keep fighting it.

Speaker 2 (26:56):
No, it's so great, and that's why I'm saying the
whole album it just so. I'm so happy for her
and Travis. And now we have some predictions. I was saying,
this is gonna be a fun tour, and you're like,
she's not going on tour anytime soon.

Speaker 3 (27:08):
No, I really believe since she's thirty five, they're gonna
get married within a year, they're gonna start trying to
have babies one way or another, half kids, and then
as a mother, she'll go on tour and Travis would
have retired from football, so he'll be like the stay
home dad, or not stay at home, but stay along tour.

Speaker 4 (27:26):
That one big happy family.

Stuff You Should Know
Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
