Toby and Chili in the Morning.

Speaker 3 (00:06):
I'm kidd O'she ninety seven point one wash FM a
Friday morning in DC. It is great to have everybody here.
I'm kidd O'she. Yes, Chili, you look like you are wearing.
Don't take this the wrong way when I'm about to
explain to everyone listening right now what you're wearing. It
looks like you're wearing one of those like comfy fleece blankets.

Speaker 4 (00:26):
Oh.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
Yeah, we all have on our couch that on a
cold November day we cuddle up with.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
But it's in a pullover form.

Speaker 5 (00:34):
Yes.

Speaker 4 (00:35):
No, I have a lot of these very cozy, fluffy
things to wear in my closet. Yeah, and I usually
get him from Costco over the years. Okay, so now
I've gone to the age now where well over fifty
percent of my wardrobe is from Costco. But this was
a Costco purchase that I had forgotten about.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (00:56):
I was putting away some clothes after doing laundry and
I was like, oh, I ram remember this top I'm
gonna start wearing. It's not quite cold this now. Like
it was earlier in the week. But yes, I'm feeling cozy.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Looks super cozy.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
I bet you there's a blanket version of that Costco
has put out, but I love it. So we're off
to a good start here on a Friday morning. We
hope you are off to a great start as well.
As we head into the weekend. Chili's working on Top Story,
so she'll update us and everything going on in the
world coming up next. Plus we've got some music lined

Speaker 4 (01:35):
A bill that calls on the Justice Department to release
all of its Jeffrey Epstein case files will get voted
on in the House next week. With the discharge petition
now reaching the two hundred and eighteen signatures needed, House
Speaker Mike Johnson is now required to put the bill
on the floor soon. Secretary of War Pete haig Seth

(01:57):
has announced a new military operation getting Narco terrorists. He
said that the US Southern Command will lead Operation Southern Sphere.
Now that the government shut downs over DC's Smithsonian Museums
are going to start to reopen, the National Museum of
American History, the National Air and Space Museum, and the

(02:17):
Udvar Hazy Center will welcome visitors again starting today, while
the rest of the museums and the National Zoo will
reopen by Monday. Montgomery County's MC Groceries program is expanding
now to help seven hundred working families who don't qualify
for federal food assistance but still struggle to cover basic

(02:39):
living costs. So qualifying families will get one hundred dollars
per child every month to shop on Instacart. In response
to safety concerns, Lime and Veyo are reducing the speed
of their e bikes in DC, so Lime's boost feature
will now top out at eighteen miles an hour and

(03:00):
at fifteen miles an hour. That's down from the previous
twenty mile an hour limit. And according to a recent survey,
forty four percent of holiday gifts are bought from small businesses,
and a third purchase most of their seasonal items locally.
Twice as many shoppers prefer small shops over big box
stores during the holidays, and seventy two percent say that

(03:23):
their celebrations rely on these local establishments. Forecast for today,
party cloudy Skies with highs around fifty eight. Right now
it's thirty one in Stafford.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
All right, Chilli, thanks a lot coming up next to
our morning mindset for Friday morning and inspirational quote to
get us all in the right mindset, Chili, we'll share
that with us next. Mariah Carey, the Queen of Christmas,
and when she says we can start playing Christmas music
on WASHFM, we sure will. It's coming soon. Ninety seven
point one wash FM with Toby and Chile in the morning.

(03:55):
I'm kiddo'she it's time for our morning mindset.

Speaker 4 (03:58):
So because we kick off our best of the eighties
weekend every Friday at five o'clock, I chose this lyric
from the song Sunglasses at Night by Corey Hart, one
of my favorites. In it, he says I wear my
sunglasses at night so I can, so I can.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
Now.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
It's a surprisingly motivational when you think about it. It's
like saying I'm choosing to face the world on my
own terms, even when things are unclear or challenging. Those
sunglasses become a symbol of confidence and self protection, so
you're not letting any distractions, doubts or negativity blind you.
That's why you're wearing the sunglasses. See how you can
twist it, make it motivational, inspirational. I wear my sunglasses

(04:39):
at night, so I can, So I can. It is
a lyric in the song Sunglasses at Night by Corey
Hart and you can find it on the Toby and
Chili page at washfm dot com or you can also
see it on our Instagram page if you follow WASHFM.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
And you can hear it this weekend on our Best
of the Eighties weekend which starts today.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
Five.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
All right, Chili, thanks a lot. Coming up next, there
is a new trend when it comes to showering. We'll
share it with you next. Plus Chili has tried it,
so does it work? It's supposed to help you sleep
details next Toby and Chili in the Morning.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
Ninety seven point one, wash FM.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
I'm kidd o'she there's a new trend when it comes
to showering, and it's supposed to help you sleep better.
And our trendst are here on the Toby and Chili show.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
Chilia Mahar has already tried it.

Speaker 4 (05:26):
I didn't realize this was a trend. It's called dark showering. Okay,
it's when you take showers in very low light or
darkness at night to promote relaxation and better sleep. The
idea here is that dim lighting helps lower your cortisol,
which is your stress hormone, and it supports melatonin production,
which signals the brain at its time to rest. Boh,

(05:48):
And I do always take my showers at night because
I don't want to get up any earlier. I have to,
and I like to. Some bathrooms have that one like
just above the shower, and then there's the main room
light do you yeah, talk yeah, And the one above
the shower is the dimmest of them all. So sometimes
I just have that on and sometimes honestly I'll just

(06:09):
leave the bedroom door open just for a little bit
of light to come in. I just like it. I
just like setting the mood that way.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
Well, that was my concern because once in a while,
like Kyle will accidentally turn the light off in the
bathroom when I'm showering. I'm like, oh, actually completely Dark's
kind of cool, but it could be unsafe if you
need to get out of the shower.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
So you do need some light.

Speaker 4 (06:29):
A little bit is very good. Hey, we do this
when we do bubble baths. Yeah, there are people who
like light candles, so it's the same idea.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
But in the shower, I'm going to try to dark
shower more often.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
I like that.

Speaker 4 (06:41):
Just don't miss any spots.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
Okay, perfect, good point. Coming out next year with Toby
and Tilly in the Morning.

Speaker 3 (06:46):

Schools enrollment has dropped to about eighty thousand, six hundred students,
which is the lowest since twenty sixteen, and it's expected

the district's proposed budget now exceeds two billion dollars, which
is more than double what it was a decade earlier.
The Washington commanders have chosen Dallas based HKS as the

friendly city in the entire country. Forecast for today partly
cloudy skies. Highs around fifty eight right now, thirty two Inlantam.

Speaker 3 (09:58):
Right thanks a lot chili coming up next here. How
much would you be willing to pay for an accessory
that holds your phone? We'll tell you what the internet
is buzzing about this morning. Why some people are saying
this new fashion trend.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
Needs to go away. That's next.

Speaker 3 (10:14):
There Yo getting excited for our best of the eighties
weekend with Tina Turner on ninety seven point one wash FM.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
In the morning.

Speaker 3 (10:23):
I'm kiddo'she There is a new trend on the internet
when it comes to where you put your phone, specifically
your iPhone.

Speaker 4 (10:32):
So they've launched Apple has this iPhone pocket they're calling it.

Speaker 5 (10:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (10:39):
It is a case that looks like a sock with
a strap attached to it for your phone. It is hideous.
There is a little tiny opening where your phone can
peek through from the side, and it comes in two
lengths strap lengths. The short strap is one hundred and
fifty dollars what and then the long crossbody style is

(11:03):
two hundred and thirty dollars. It's got a bunch of
different colors. Yeah, and it's going to be available now.
It's available now.

Speaker 5 (11:11):
Now.

Speaker 3 (11:11):
I wonder if the young hip kids know this fashion
designer and it's going to be one of those things
that you have to have. But as you look at it, Chili, yeah,
are you looking at this item and saying this is
something I could see myself using for my phone? I
absolutely need to get this. It's going on my Christmas list.
Don my husband better get this for me. Fat chance

(11:31):
not happening. I don't even care if it showed up
on team for two bucks. It ain't coming to my house.

Speaker 6 (11:36):
Shelby and Chili's nearly impossible.

Speaker 2 (11:38):
Questions, at least not this Christmas?

Speaker 5 (11:40):
All right?

Speaker 2 (11:40):
What is today's question?

Speaker 4 (11:42):
More people worldwide own this than they own a toothbrush?

Speaker 3 (11:48):
What is it planning for tickets to see Journey at
Capitol one Arena eight sixty six nine two seven four
three six one eight sixty six wash FM one. Grab
those Journey tickets if you can answer the ques question correctly.
What's that question?

Speaker 2 (12:01):
Again?

Speaker 4 (12:01):
More people worldwide own one of these than they own
a toothbrush. It is something that you probably are carrying
with you right now.

Speaker 2 (12:09):
Interesting. I love the little clue there.

Speaker 3 (12:12):
We'll have the answer to the nearly impossible question coming
up next with Toby and Chili on ninety seven point
one wash fl Toby and Chili's nearly Impossible question, and
I'm kiddoshe in for Toby. We are playing for tickets
to see Journey at Capitol One Arena.

Speaker 2 (12:28):

Speaker 2 (12:37):
Eight six six nine two seven four three six one.

Speaker 4 (12:40):
Good morning, Glenn, how are you today? Thanks for listening

Good weekend.

Speaker 4 (12:53):
We're going to try to make it a little bit
better for you. You've got the question, what do you
think The answer is.

Speaker 5 (12:57):
I think it's probably a cell phone.

Speaker 4 (12:59):
Okay, so you think there are more people in the
world that own a cell phone than a toothbrush.

Speaker 5 (13:07):
Unfortunately, Yes, that.

Speaker 4 (13:09):
Is the correct answer.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
You know.

Speaker 5 (13:12):
I went out with a guy once and I found
out that he shared a toothbrush with his roommate. Which
is gross. That is so, there's no world in which
he would share a cell phone with a roommate, So
it seemed like a fair answer.

Good morning.

Speaker 3 (18:04):
It's Toby and Chilly in the Morning, ninety seven point
one wash FM getting through a Friday together and on
this Friday morning, it's time for our feel Good Friday story.

Speaker 4 (18:12):
In case you missed it. Earlier this week, Prince George's
County leaders they opened the doors to a new workforce
training center in Bowie at the former Kenhill Center, which
was once Bouie's City Hall, and the center is now
part of a broader effort across the county to help
residents navigate a shifting job market and also help them

(18:33):
build skills that employers are looking for. So visitors can
access a free computer lab there, complete online skills assessments,
and also take advantages of a variety of training programs,
from resume building and interview preparation to technical and professional
courses that are offered through the Prince George's County Employment Network.

(18:54):
The center also provides personalized career guidance to help people
who are looking for jobs map out their next step,
whether that's landing a new role, advancing their current career,
or exploring entirely new fields. So this Booy location, by
the way, is the third such center in the county,
and it joins others in Largo and National Harbor, with

(19:14):
plans to expand even further so that all twenty seven
municipalities have accessible training hubs. And the goal is very
clear here. They want to make the workforce development very practical,
local and approachable, giving their residents the tools and confidence
that they need to thrive in today's economy. So thank
you so much for giving us a story that makes

(19:35):
us feel good. You can read more about this new
center on the Toby and Chili page at waschefm dot com.

Speaker 3 (19:41):
All right, Chili, thank you for sharing that with us
on this Friday morning. Coming up next, a local boutique
is offering mom recharge ours this holiday season. Oh yes,
Chili is going to share with us how this works
and talk to the woman behind it all next with
Toby and Chili in the Morning on ninety seven point
one WASCHEFL.

Speaker 4 (19:59):
Ninety seven point every one wash FM. It's Toby and
Chilly in the Morning. I'm Chilli, Amar and you know,
a recent report found that seventy percent of moms feel
overstimulated during the holidays, which is a reminder that while
moms are busy making the magic happen, they rarely get
a chance to stop and enjoy this time of year

(20:19):
for themselves. And that is exactly what inspired a local
mom and business owner named Dana Dorrier, who owns Apricot
Lane Boutiques. There's one in McLain and Potomac and she
has created mom Recharge Hours throughout the month of November.

(20:40):
Good morning, Dana, tell us what inspired you to do this.

Speaker 7 (20:44):
I have three elementary school aged kids, so I know
how busy the time of years with family obligations and
also school obligations and kid obligations and work parties and
all the things, and we wanted to do something where
they could come in and have kind of a recharge
event and do something for themselves. Everyone has to do
some shopping this time of year, whether you're shopping for

(21:06):
gifts or for yourself, and so this can kind of
take the stress out of that and make it a
nice relaxing evening. So we're doing kind of private shopping nights.
It'll be kind of just you and your friends or
your family in a common environment where things are catered
towards you.

Speaker 4 (21:21):
And once they make that reservation, what can they expect
when they come in.

Speaker 7 (21:26):
We're doing some light refreshments, we can change the music
so what you guys want. We have stilists so we
can do stiling sessions or trend reports so people can
kind of help, really personalize, help with whatever your group need.

Speaker 4 (21:40):
What's some of the reaction that you've gotten from moms
who've taken advantage of this.

Speaker 6 (21:44):
They love it.

Speaker 7 (21:45):
I will say during this holiday season, with everything that's
been so stressful this year, I think for people, we've
just heard people saying it's so nice to be able
to come in and take some time with their girlfriends.
Because also I think as moms, it's really hard for
us to carve out time.

Speaker 4 (22:00):
I'm Burt Belt it certainly is. Thanks so much again
for joining us, Dana who is the owner of Apricot
Lane Boutiques, And if you want to make a reservation,
we're going to make it easy for you. You can find

the Mount Vernon Trail, Dangerfield Island four mile run, and
also local streams that feed the Patrol Syoma and Chesapeake Bay.
So participants are going to be meeting tomorrow at eleven

(25:04):
am at the Virginia Square GMU Metro Station. And according
to a recent survey, eighty percent of adults say they
miss simpler times when we only had four TV channels
and in person conversations. Many folks also miss paying with cash,
phone calls, chatting with store clerks, milk delivery, and renting

(25:27):
VHS tapes. Still, thirty nine percent say life is better today.
Forecast for today partly cloudy skies with highs in the
upper fifties. Right now thirty eight in silver spring, All.

Speaker 3 (25:40):
Right, chilly, thanks a lot. I'm kidd o'shee coming up next.
If you've ever had to make a big life decision,
you'll be able to relate to what I went through
this week. I'll share that big decision with you and
the lesson I learned. Next, Toby and chilly in the morning,
ninety seven point one wash FM. Good morning, I'm kidd o'sha.
If you've ever had to make a big life decision,

(26:01):
you know how tough that can be.

Speaker 2 (26:03):
I'm with you. I went through it this week.

Speaker 3 (26:04):
If you missed it earlier this week on Good Morning Washington,
I made this announcement well before we go.

Speaker 8 (26:09):
This morning, I have a little personal news to share
with you. After an incredible run here at Good Morning Washington,
I'll be saying goodbye at the end of November. I've
accepted a new opportunity back home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Speaker 4 (26:20):
Oh, you're leaving us.

Speaker 2 (26:22):
I'm leaving you.

Speaker 4 (26:23):
You're gonna be leaving us going home to Wisconsin news.
Is it something I said?

Speaker 3 (26:28):
Naturally, you sadly know you're making it harder to leave.
Of course, my family here at WASHFM as well, and
a decade here in DC, which really you know, when
I first came here, I thought I'll be here for
about a year, they'll figure out I don't know what
I'm doing and send me back. But it lasted to
ten years. And hey, my parents are in their mid

(26:49):
seventies and they're healthy, and I think anybody that's lucky
enough to have both their parents around. You know how
precious that time is. And so I'm at a point
in my life where it's like that is the number
one priority for me, my partner, Kyle, and Biggie to
be closer to family, so we can do that.

Speaker 2 (27:07):
Yeah, this job came up and I couldn't pass it down.

Speaker 4 (27:09):
Now you're gonna be doing TV and still some radio
out in Wisconsin. And I think what you brought up
is very valid because most people who live in the
DC area do not live where their parents are, where
their family is. And if you ever did have an
opportunity to go back home, I think a lot of
people would do the same thing. I'm look, I've been
born and raised in the DC area. I will not

(27:32):
leave because my village is here. So I totally get
why you want to go back to being near your sister,
your nephew's nieces, the whole gang. And I mean, we're
gonna miss you around here when you leave.

Speaker 2 (27:44):
I'm going to miss you guys.

Speaker 3 (27:45):
But if there's one lesson I learned during all of this,
it was exactly what you said. It was go with
your gut, Go with what your gut's telling you, and
that's to get back home closer to family.

Speaker 4 (27:54):
And you know what, you can always come back.

Speaker 2 (27:56):
Yeah, thank you.

Speaker 4 (27:57):
Chilli ninety seven point one and wash FM with Toby
and Chilly in the morning. I'm Chilly Omar. We want
you to be here right around a twenty Monday morning
where we are gonna make a very special holiday announcement
and all your questions regarding music will be answered. Again.

(28:19):
That's a twenty Monday morning, one thousand.

Speaker 3 (28:22):
Dollars work day pay day can help out just in
time for the holidays.

Speaker 4 (28:26):
Make sure you're listening right around nine to ten this morning,
Jenny Chase. We'll have your first keyword then, which you'll
hiner at washfm dot com.

Speaker 3 (28:33):
That's coming up with Toby and Chile in the Morning
on ninety seven point one wash FM. Right now, a
preview of our Best of the eighties weekend with Belinda
carlyon Toby and Chile in the Morning, ninety seven point
one wash FM Workday Payday for one thousand bucks coming
up at nine ten with Jenny Chase. Right now, it's
time for our morning mindset.

Speaker 4 (28:52):
Okay, so because it is our best of the eighties
weekend at five o'clock today, we are choosing a lyric
from the song Glasses at Night by Corey Hart, and
in it he says, I wear my sunglasses at night
so I can, So I can. It's like saying I'm
choosing to face the world on my own terms, even
when things are unclear or challenging.

Speaker 2 (29:15):
I love that, Chili.

Speaker 3 (29:15):
Now let's enjoy this song from Corey Hart and kind
of think about that a little bit as well. I
have a great weekend, Chilli and I are back with
you next week on ninety seven point one washef M.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
