Toby and Chili Mornings on Demand on ninety seven point one.
Why shut out?

Speaker 2 (00:05):
So it's Friday, Why are you feeling good this morning?

Speaker 3 (00:06):
There?

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Chiliamar, Well, my son was fever free all day as
today he's got to influenza bee.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
So that's a step in the right direction.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Yeah. For those who aren't familiar, I guess a couple
of days ago, you had this moment during the show
when it was like, okay, well, watch of anxiety rolled
over you. And it was because your husband, I guess
it reached out to you and said that your son
was not feeling well, and well, we know that the
flu is a thing this time of year.

Speaker 4 (00:32):
Yeah, he had one hundred and three temperature, which is fine.
It means the body's fighting something. Fevers are People are
afraid of fevers, but it's actually means your body's doing
what it needs to do. But yeah, I mean, I'm
hoping he's head in the right direction. We've got a
big week next week for him and for us, and
we hope that he gets better.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
Well, feed him, feed the fever, star of the cold.
Isn't that how it goes?

Speaker 3 (00:53):
I forget that I'm just hydrating him.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
I forget the old adage that some people's Yeah, I
might call it an old wives tale, but it's more
like an.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Adage north to that. Yeah, how are you?

Speaker 2 (01:05):
I'm good man. I had a really good day being
out yesterday at Water's Landing Elementary School. Yes, it was
a career day, and you know, I've been kind of
a recluse lately while I've been dealing with some health stuff.
It felt really good to be in front of kids,
because you know, they're the future. And when you get
the chance to talk with them and remind them that

(01:26):
the most powerful thing they have no one can take
away from them, and that's their voice. No matter what
people try to say, no, whenever what people try to do,
there's always somebody who if you're not afraid to use
your voice for good, you'll attract other voices for good
and then you have a chorus of voices. And you know,
just the chance to shape and to mold was really
great and it just felt good, you know. I mean

(01:47):
I was exhausted afterwards, don't get it twisted, but it
was good to talk with all of those classes during
career day yesterday, Water's Landing Elementary School in Montgomery County.
Thank you for the wonderful welcome and you have no
idea how great these snacks in that bag were to
keep me sustained and going because I was starting to

(02:07):
drag a little bit. But that's the point, you drag
a little bit to get to a Friday. Why are

I will be waiting it's from her song Time after Time,
Cindy Lapper. If you fall, I will catch you. I
will be waiting. What does this mean to us? Well,
it means it's important to remember to support others through difficulties.

Speaker 5 (05:17):
Right.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
You may not see it as a difficult time, but
believe me, it is for somebody, somebody else as easy
as another person's difficult. And when you support people through
difficult times, it becomes very powerful and it's transformative both
for them and for you. Cindy Lapper, Time after Time.
If you fall, I will catch you, I will be waiting.

(05:39):
Will you think about that today as you get into
your Friday and into your weekend, because somebody might need
you to catch them. It's ninety seven point one WASHM

I hope it did, you can find it on the

Stay with us because coming up in just a few minutes.

Speaker 4 (05:58):
Speaking of things falling, did you see Jack Black's pants fell?
I mean he was able to catch it after it
got to his ankles on the Tonight.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
Show wardrobe malfunction, just like Jack Black, and just like
that one wardrobe malfunction during the Big Games halftime show
once upon a time.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
I know, but I guess if you've had one, we'd
love to hear about it.

Speaker 2 (06:17):

Speaker 2 (06:48):
Movies in theaters this weekend, and he was on the
Tonight Show and he almost lost his breitch.

Speaker 4 (06:53):
No, no, he did actually lose his bridges. He didn't
lose his underwear, but he lost his pants as he
was walking up to the delay.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
Well that's said almost because we didn't get the full
Monty Jack black, if you know what I mean. That's
when it's beyond a malfunction. But no, to lose your
knickers is no good on national television.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
No it's not.

Speaker 4 (07:11):
And he said because he wasn't wearing a belt. But
I have to say something, and I know this might
be inappropriate.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
Oh lord, here we go.

Speaker 4 (07:17):
You've been coming very close to having a black malfunction
here in the studio when you wear like your sweatpants.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
What my stretchy pants, my pregnancy pants, because I'm supposed
to wear loose pants. Why Well, because for some reason,
the draw strings on the bridges got all knotted and
tied up, and I can't unknot them for some reason,
and I don't want to cut them because then I'll
really have order of malfunctions.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
So there have been knotted since when you were bigger?

Speaker 2 (07:44):
Is yes? And no, I can't really like adjust them
to make them tighter, and so I do the one
handed pull sometimes that's where you put one hand in
your pocket and you hold it up and you just
keep walking and hope nobody noticed yet, no comment. Okay,
I will say that I've mooned some people. You all
got to see that I was wearing some red Boxer

(08:04):
briefs the other day. If you happen to be in
an elevator on Rockville Pike, that's not inappropriate.

Speaker 3 (08:10):
Is it? Well you lost that person.

listening in Fairfax. What happened?

Speaker 5 (08:31):
I had this skirt that I absolutely loved, but it
was like one of those big slowy ones and it
was way too big. So I kind of altered it
and fixed it so that it would fit me around
the waist. And I had an appointment, and as I
walked into the atrium all of people at like nine
o'clock in the morning, my boot caught the edge of

(08:54):
my skirt and when I took a step, the skirt
shell to the floor.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
Yeehah.

Speaker 3 (08:59):
Well, I hope you were wearing something underneath.

Speaker 4 (15:32):
The President says the tariffs imposed on other countries are
having the desired effect, and now he is open to negotiations.
Trump says that every country has called him asking to
cut a trade deal with the US to avoid tariffs.
Fencing is going up around the White House as ten
thousand people are expected for a rally at the monument

(15:53):
that begins at noon tomorrow. Protest is part of a
nationwide day of Action against the Trump administration. Also, the
White House garden tours have now been moved to Sunday.
Seven people were injured after a mass stabbing. This happened
near Galludette University in DC yesterday. Police say the suspect
was in an altered mental state from an unknown substance

(16:15):
when he stabbed himself and six other people. All the
victims were hospitalized and the suspect is in custody. A
critically missing person from Manassas is now in police custody
after being found on the media. In along to seventy yesterday,
Montgomery County police were forced to temporarily shut down part
of two seventy in North Bethesda. The NCAA Final four

(16:38):
will tip off this weekend. All four number one seeds
on the men's side will be in the national semifinals
for the first time since two thousand and eight. And
with Apple's latest update, I found users scored eight new emojis,
and one in particular is stealing the spotlight. Y'all can
say hello to the exhausted face complete with under eye bags.

(17:02):
Forecast forward today cloudy skies with some scattered storms throughout
the day. Highs around seventy Right now it is sixty
four degrees in Beltsville.

Speaker 2 (17:10):
Perhaps the most spot on emojia I've seen them come
with in some time. Toby and Chilly in the morning.
Now that you've got top stories at the top of
the hour, stay there because if it's Friday and it
feels good and gives you all the fields, it must
be a feel good Friday sort of a story. Everyone's
heard the old adage about tough times never lasting, but
tough people do well. You've got to get to meet
Phil filled Finty from Delicate City in Maryland. These words

(17:33):
have hit home in a way that you would not
have expected, certainly in a way that he never expected.
You'll get to hear this story coming up in minutes.
Stay right there. Not trying to get political, but I'll
stake the obvious. The news has just been fantastic this week.
Toby and Chilly in the morning. It's ninety seven point
one wash FM. Between tariffs and taxes, and taxes and tariffs.
It's time for something that feels good on a Friday.

(17:55):
And when you have a story that gives you all
the feels, it must be the feel good Friday story
that we found for you this week. This one comes
to us Chili from Ellicott City, Maryland.

Speaker 4 (18:04):
His name is Phil Penty and he suffered a great
loss back in twenty sixteen. His wife died from cancer
and then he was a single dad, all of a
sudden to two young children, just four and two years old.
But in the midst of all that grief, he knew
that he couldn't just stop living. He had to go
on and he literally kept moving for just.

Speaker 2 (18:24):
Kept moving forward, kept it moving. Flash forward a few years,
Phil's running marathons. Now he's a regular on the Ultra
Marathon circuit, running extreme races every year, not just races,
not just five k's. No, these are extreme races and
it's more than just a physical thing. For Phil. It's therapy,
a metaphor for a life that just keeps moving forward.

Speaker 4 (18:47):
And no, he's gearing up for the biggest one. It
actually starts today and at lasts an entire week. It's
the Arizona Monster, three hundred, yes, three hundred miles of
running through the desert.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
He's got a week to come a week.

Speaker 2 (19:00):
So why would you do this if you're Phil? Well,
people asking that a lot, and it's about purpose. For Phil.
It's about finding something to work towards, something that pushes
you past your limits, the limits that you once had
in your mind. They could be physical, or emotional, mental,
even spiritual limits. He just wants to keep testing where
he was, to find out where he's going to be

(19:20):
and expanding those limits. At the time, you know, this
is a guy who became a widower. It's thirty three
years old. Running helped him get through that grief and
the waight, the emotional weight of a devastating loss, and
now while dealing with thoughts and feelings and raising two kids,
he's found a new strength through movement. It's a true
release then and then and it still is now.

Speaker 4 (19:43):
Yeah, And you know what, Thankfully he was able to
stay grounded. He kept moving and his life started to brighten.
He's now engaged to be married again, and he and
his fiance have welcomed a baby boy, and so he
knows that el and through the tough times. There is
another side to this, and I'm it's not really what

(20:05):
happens to us, it's how do we respond to things
that happen to.

Speaker 2 (20:08):
Right, you can't control what life's going to bring you away,
but you can control what you can control how you
respond that mindset. Phil's mindset seems to be teaching us
even now how to get through what we think might
be impossible because guess what, he's dealt with it and
he's still moving. It's an incredible story, one that really

(20:30):
just feels good on a Friday, especially given all of
the news and everything else we've all been facing, and
we all are just going, why, We'll look at Phil
and Ellicate city. This man is doing it.

Speaker 4 (20:39):
Yes, and hopefully he's got a really great pair of
shoes and a lot of electrolytes because he's running starting today.

Speaker 2 (20:45):
Stay hydrated, Phil stay hydrated, and thank you for helping
us to wrap the week on a very positive note.
It's ninety seven point one WASHM Toby and Chilly in
the Morning. You can read his story on the Toby
and Chilli page at washefim dot com. And if you've
got a story like this just feels good for Monday,
for Friday, for any day the week, send it our way.
You can find us, just email us and we would

(21:07):
love to make some noise for your story. Now coming
up in just a few minutes here with Toby and
Chilly in the Morning.

Speaker 4 (21:12):
Over half of Americans say they don't think they'll ever
be able to pay off their debt. Well, let's talk
fantasy and hypothetical. What is the first thing you would
do if you were to pay it all? Oh?

Speaker 2 (21:24):
Do we really want to go here?

Speaker 4 (21:26):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (21:26):
Yes we do, So join the conversation at eight sixty
six nineteen seven forty three sixty one your debt free?
You and me? What's the first thing we're doing without
the family? We'll talk about it coming up. This is
kind of a shocking number. Toby and Chilly in the
Morning at ninety seven point one wash FM. But it
is true. Seventy two percent of Americans over the age
of fifty five have accumulated some pretty serious debt. They're

(21:49):
freaking out and given the news that debt could climb
even higher. So let's role play for a minute. What
would you do if you were debt free? The first
thing you would do if you had no debt in
your life Chilli yamar, because let me count the ways.
But after you, ma'am.

Speaker 4 (22:05):
Okay, First we should say no debt means no more
mortgage payments, right, no credit card debt obviously, and like
no car payments, I mean literally debt free. I would
