Speaker 1 (00:00):
There's always a reason to feel good before five am,
and that's one of the reasons why, well, you know,
I think we get up every morning is to embrace
that goodness and hopes that the rest of the day
will be just as good. It's ninety seven point one
wash FM or t'll be and chilly in the morning. Chilli,
you're feeling all right today? Everything good?

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Or no?

Speaker 3 (00:17):
I'm just glad I have enough energy to be here today.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
So really, what happened? Did you stay up late?

Speaker 3 (00:22):
I did? I have a sick kid at home? Oh? No,
getting over influenza B. But what I've learned about this
particular strain is that once the coughing and congestion have
sort of gone, some gastrointestinal things start to happen from
both ends of things, and well, it's a very painful

(00:43):
experience for an eleven.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
Don't bring that virus in here. I'm trying to stay
healthy and well.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
Yeah, I mean so far I don't. I don't have
it yet, knock on wood. That's another thing I'm grateful for,
right on. I mean, it's been two weeks today since
he was tested and diagnosed.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
So I don't want to say anything about hoping that
none of us get sick, because well, at any given
time that could happen. Life just shows up. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
But I will say that conversely, I'm just happy that
I'm getting well, and I'm happy that, you know some
of the steps that I've been taking, and I've been
taking a lot of them towards health and wellness. I
have been a god willing paying off knock on everything

(01:21):
that looks like would because I hope I didn't just
jinx myself. So health and wellness is a reason to
be happy this morning, a reason to have something that,
a reason to feel good before five when you wake
up with us, it's Toby and Chilly in the morning.
Ninety seven point one wash FM is on. Thank you
for letting us be a part of your day. We
get the news for you Top Stories at the top
of the hour because you need to be caught up

(01:43):

to work. If you're on your way there already. Your
morning law said, he's on the way with Toby and
Chilli in the morning. Words to inspire God willing with

in the morning time for us to pause and talk

(04:13):
about you and something that we think might help you
have a better Tuesday as we get this new day started.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
And we do that by sharing a quote for you
to sort of carry with you throughout the day.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
Your morning mindset today comes from the Mel Robins. She says,
you were not born to be quiet. You were not
born to be quiets as Mel Robin Robins.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
See. Here's the thing.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
And a lot of times I think, and I know
that I feel this way sometimes that I shouldn't speak up.
I used to be more vocal than I used to be,
but now I feel like, you know, well, I better not.
Oh I could get in trouble. Well, you know what,
why stop waiting for permission? The world has you here
because the world needs your voice. Speak up, show up,

(04:58):
Mel Robbins. Born to be quiet, So make some good
noise today. All right, it's ninety seven point one washing FM.
That's your morning mindset. We're Toby and Chilly in the Morning.
Hopefully it helped, And if you want to share it
with somebody who might need it, find it to Toby
and Chili page at WASHUFM dot com or get a
hold of one of us and we'll send it your
way and stay right there because coming up in just

(05:18):
a few minutes.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
Well, I want you to tell me why you had
trouble buying a banana. What happened?

Speaker 2 (05:24):
Many issues, well one big issue?

Speaker 3 (05:27):
What issue?

Speaker 1 (05:29):
I declined to tell you now, but I'll tell you
more in just a minute. Hang on, did I tell
you what happened? The other morning? On the way into
work to ninety seven point one wash FM Toby and
Chilly in the morning.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
You know, I like to run by seven to eleven.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
Grab bananas because their tasty, good, full of potassium and
some other stuff for breakfast. Well, I went to pay
and my card got declined, not once, but twice.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
Oh no, no, no.

Speaker 1 (05:52):
And by the way, this was my ETM card, so
it's like it got declined, like you got no cash
in your checking account.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
I was like, wait what and you know, full well
there's at least enough to cover a banana.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
I wouldn't have whooped it out. I mean, I'm risky,
but I'm not that risky. Well, fortunately there was nobody
else in there, so the guy's like, hey, run over
to the ATM. Try the ATM. He's like, it could
just be a thing. So I went over to the ATM,
got the stuff back, looked at the balance, and I
was like, I told you I had money on this card.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
I don't know why it has god declined.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
It turns out like they run an overnight audits and
sometimes they don't know exactly what it happens, but it
happens at some point time between like two thirty and
three thirty, and they just do a big dump of
all the data.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
Thank god he didn't kick you out for life.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
I like that.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
Like I was reading about that one couple on an
airplane once upon a time.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
Yeah, they couldn't pay for their pringles, so they got
arrested and banned.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
Is this ever happened to anybody else? Did your card
get declined at the most inopportune time?

Speaker 1 (07:05):
But then I checked my phone and then I noticed
there was a froddler, So I called my company and.

Speaker 3 (07:10):
They reactivated my card and it worked out. Thank god.
That's got to be one of the worst timed things,
a date credit card rejection.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
Yeah, like, and if you're on a first date, that's
like a bad first impression, especially if you should be like,
do you think you could pick this up for us?

Speaker 2 (07:27):
Leslie?

Speaker 1 (07:27):
Hello, good morning, thanks for listening in Alexandria.

card in the app the night before, trying to be responsible.
If I were behind you, depending on how much food
you had on that card, I would have been like, listen,
just put it on my cards. I would have know.

collector could actually show up your doorstep, and if you
still don't pay, they can come after your paycheck. They
can take away your passports. I mean, the list goes
on and on. Jail could be the endgame here, folks.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
Right, Oh well, I'll sell my house to help pay

it and take what's there's first. Nobody has time for
any of that, and especially the nasty grams. Those are

a DC police officer at the Pentagon City Metro station
on Friday Police Day. Officers were trying to detain a
fair evader when the girl, who knew the suspect, reportedly
threw food on the officer and then committed assault while
being arrested. DC residents are being encouraged to join a
citywide spring cleaning effort. The Department of Public Works is

doing targeted cleanups in areas that need special attention, while
the Department of Transportation is working to restore and repave
roads affected by winter utility work. And the magic number
that Americans feel they need to retire comfortably in twenty

that more than half of Americans think it's somewhat or
very likely that they are going to outlive their savings forecast. Today,

sixty one right now, or tap the talkback microphone if
you're signed into your iHeart app and leave us some message.
Chilly and I would love to hear when it is
that you start to panic when your phone is running
out of charge. Do you have a certain percentage when
you look down at your phone you start to freak out?
What might that be? Well, we know what the number

(15:49):
is for most Americans. What is it for you? And
did you ever have your phone die during a very important, crucial,
critical kind of moment. We're talking about it coming up
with Teby and Chilly in the morning. Stay right there,
the number is eight six six, nine two seven forty
three sixty one. It's ninety seven point one wash FM.
Watch you call us now or tap the talk back

(16:10):
microphone if you're signed in listening to your iHeart app.
Leave us a message and tell us when is it
you start to panic that when your phone is running
out of charge. You look down and you see a
certain percentage, and it starts to make your heart beat
just a bit faster, the beads of sweat anxiety starts
to set in.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
Tell us, do you know what that number is? For you?

Speaker 1 (16:29):
And have you ever had a crucial moment when your
phone just died? I want to hear all about it now.
Here's the number you need to know about when Americans
start to panic.

Speaker 3 (16:39):
Thirty eight percent battery life. That's when they start to
worry and want to charge their phone. That seems really low.
I think for me, it's like around fifty percent. I'm like, hm,
I better watch it because I don't want it to
die when I knowed.

Speaker 1 (16:52):
Yeah, I play it by year. It really depends on
what we've got going on. If I'm out and about
and I don't have a charger, it could be fit
fifty percent that I'm like, oh lord, I'm not going
to be around a charger for a few hours. This
could be bad. Put the battery save on. But if
I'm close to a charger, I'll run it down to
like four percent.

Speaker 4 (17:11):
I know.

Speaker 3 (17:11):
But between the two of us, I've never had it
run out at a crucial moment, and I'm guessing you
may have.

Speaker 1 (17:17):
Oh I have, of course, Yeah, I mean, and the
crucial moments could be anything on the phone with the boss,
on the phone with the significant other. And then, by
the way, you have to wait for it to reboot
itself just to build up enough charge to get back
into it. So what do you think eight sixty six
nineteen seven forty three sixty one When do you panic
when your phone is running out of charge? Do you

(17:38):
have a certain percentage? Is it thirty eight percent higher?

Speaker 2 (17:40):
Lower?

Speaker 1 (17:41):
And have you ever had your phone die at the
worst possible time? Tell us everything. We'll get into it
coming up and Telby and Chilly in the morning. In
the meantime, stay there for another one of your crazy
first date stories.

Speaker 3 (17:52):
PJ and Germantown went out with a guy who honestly
didn't even know how to cut a piece of meat.

Speaker 1 (17:58):
So how did this How did this mess up the date?
Or did it mess up the date? Wait till you
hear this story next it's Toby and Crazy first date either.

Speaker 2 (18:13):
PJ in Germantown tell us this story. Chilly and I
are all ears.

Speaker 4 (18:17):
I met a guy on match dot com. We lived
in two separate places, so we met halfway and we
met in Mount Airy. We went to like a restaurant,
and I didn't like the way he ate his food.
He would take his force with one hand and put
it upright, leave it there in the like the steak,
and then put his hand down and then get his

(18:38):
night and then cut it. And so he would cut
a steak with his other hand. Then I wasn't sure
about the situation, so I had my friends this was
pre cell phone, follow the restaurant and had me Paige
to make sure it was steak and I was okay.
So this was like the first of online dating. And
then we ended up. You know, I did like them,

(18:59):
and we went out for a few more days afterwards
and for years.

Speaker 3 (19:04):
So PJ, going back to your turn off from this guy,
it was how he was, I guess, holding his utensils
and cutting his steak. But then you changed your mind
about him at some point during that first date. What
made you give him another chance? Er stay in the day?

Speaker 4 (19:21):
He was just a nice guy. He made me laugh,
it's funny, and I figured, you know, I can teach
him the correct with a cut of steaks.

Speaker 1 (19:29):
Well, I mean you had several years after that to
teach him the correct way to cut the steak.

Speaker 2 (19:34):
Did you ever accomplish that task?

Speaker 3 (19:38):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (19:38):
I did, Yes, I did, and we still joke about it.
He's been This was twenty eight years ago and we've
been married now for twenty.

Speaker 2 (19:45):
Five Wowow does he know you were going to bail
on him?

Speaker 4 (19:48):
Yes? Wow? He realized like that. My friend was my
friend called It was all a big joke after fact,
severally like several states into our relationship.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
Well, because you shared that story with us, I'd love
to send you to go see the Jonas Brothers at
Nationals Park August twelfth.

Speaker 2 (20:05):
Congratulations, PJ, super, Thank you so much. I'm awesome man.
We'll even throw in some plastic wear for your husband.

Speaker 4 (20:12):
That would be awesome.

Speaker 2 (20:14):
Now hang right there, PJ.

Speaker 1 (20:15):
If you would like to see the Jonas Brothers, thanks
to Live Nation.

Speaker 2 (20:19):
When they come to National Spark.

Speaker 1 (20:20):

that most people start to get nervous, So when their
battery gets to that point, they're like, oh boy, I
better charge it. And we learned earlier that you push
it a lot further than that.

Speaker 1 (23:50):
Yes, it's case by case basis. I'll go as low
as ten. The other night I was down to four,
but I was going to bed, and I put it
right on the charger and you.

Speaker 3 (23:58):

Speaker 1 (24:01):

Speaker 3 (24:30):

ticket to a sold out concert, one second it was loading,
the next second.

Speaker 2 (24:36):
Black screen, no entry, and me just standing there like
a fool with excitement in my eyes and nothing to
prove it.

Speaker 3 (24:43):
And that's why sometimes I have to do like a
hard copy of an e ticket. I know that sounds ridiculous,
but that's my biggest feel.

Speaker 1 (24:50):
Oh you got to print that up, because what happens
if the app doesn't work the Wi Fi spot If
you're standing in front of the anthem and the wharf
trying to get in, or at the nine thirty club

I was at the airport and I got separated from
my wife and I tried calling her but my phone died.
That was a rough twenty minute, but luckily we found
each other again at the baggage claim. Yeah, because the
next step would have been having them do a PA announcement.

Speaker 1 (25:35):
I just want to know if you were at the
baggage claim sir, standing up on the baggage belts itself.

Speaker 2 (25:41):
Honey, Honey, I backed my phone's dad.

Speaker 3 (25:46):
Oh god, that would have been quite the same the
look she probably gave you when she finally caught up
to you.
