the commencement speaker. How neat is that when he's back
on Wednesday. I think it'd be fun to kind of
hear what she may have had, any nuggets that she
may have shared with everybody. But yeah, so I'm sure
he's feeling good today. His daughter has finally graduated. Those

payments are going to end college payments. Why are you
feeling good this morning?

Well, it doesn't compare to a college graduation, but I
am pretty excited that my fake butt came in the
mail over the weekend.

But do tell well, I lost a lot of weight
recently and my pants don't stay up there. There's nothing.
There was nothing there to begin with. There's definitely nothing
there now. And so I got these like padded shorts.

But I'm here with producer Taylor Shay and we're both
moms and it was Mother's Day weekend and I don't
know about you, but I was hoping to do absolutely
nothing yesterday and that's not what happened. Of course, we're moms.
I how it works. No, but it wasn't bad. We
went on a family picnic with some of my aunts

and my cousins, and then at the end of the day,
I ended up doing two loads of laundries, so of course,
you know, but.

Did you have to prepare and food or anything for me?
Speaker 2 (06:04):
I did? I did. I did a couple of things,
nothing huge. I bought most of the stuff, but overall,
it was time spent with family. And you know, I
can do the whole sleeping all day thing another day
of the year. It doesn't have to be I guess
Mother's Day. How is your Mother's Day?
Speaker 3 (06:20):
We had a Mother's Day miracle at my house really
well technically, on the side of twenty seven through Damascus.
My four year old nonverbal child was in the car
with me coming back from swimming lessons and I.

Got pulled over.

Oh and as the officer is walking up to the car.
My nonverbal child says, Mommy, it's a police car. Wi
you w wow. He has never called me mommy ever.

And so in that moment, I swung my hat around
and I looked at it and I go, what did you say?
And just as that happened, the officers at the window,
introducing himself, and I'm like, I don't know what to
address first. They're so how much just happened in three seconds?

And you want to cry because you're so moved by
the fact that your child finally like called you mommy,
But if you cried, the officer's gonna be like, what's
going on? I know? And well I did when I
got home.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
So we walked in the door and I've got tears
in my eyes, I've got hodly onto myles hand, and
my husband goes, what is wrong? And I'm like, there
was a police officer on the side of the road,
and Miles talked, but I didn't get a ticket and
we're safe. But he talked and my husband's like, calm down,
what are you talking about? That is incredible Mother's Day miracle.

I couldn't believe it. He called me mommy. For the
first time.

young boys and you doing what now in the mornings?

Well, it's sort of like an inspiration on the easel
before I leave her work in the morning, because you know,
with our shift, we're not there when they're getting ready
for school in the morning. And so my kids got
a whiteboard easel and I write like little quotes on
it with the date and the weather, you know what
things they have. It is music class today. Are we

going swimming lessons, all of that. So today it says,
today I can do hard things. Today I can ask
for help, and then I have the You know, it's Monday,
May twelfth, the weather is cloudy and rainy. But the
important part is the quote, the inspirational quote. So your
your kids, your sons are how old three and four?

And your four year old can read? He can't.
Speaker 3 (11:14):
He's learning to read already, and that's his favorite thing
to do when he comes downstairs in the morning, helps
you read mom's message.

It's like your a little mindset that you in morning mindset.

It kind of is, isn't it.

I bet if you stop doing it, he would definitely notice. Oh, certainly, yeah,
because I've been doing that with my son since he
was little too, too, you know, because I want him
to know I'm thinking of him in the morning as
he's heading to work. And I went through different quotes
and then for a while I did like would you
rather questions? I like that, and then he would answer
whatever would you rather? And then that night at dinner

we would talk about why he chose the answer he chose.
But eventually he got sick of that too, So I
got to come up with different things to leave him
with every morning. But it makes it fun. It makes
it fun, and I'm so glad that you're doing that
with your kids, because even though they sometimes act like
they don't care, this is gonna be like a core
memory for them. I really do think we're creating core

women came Together For a mother's day, celebration last week
but it was so much more than just. Flowers and

inspired change and the event was a day full of
pampering and support for women who are navigating some of

their live's toughest, challenges, like homelessness addiction domestic. Violence and
more And This, annual pamper party which, by the way
was in, its fifteenth year, offered, free, haircuts, manicures massages
clothing and, self care items all in a. Very welcoming
space and the women, arrived from shelters transitional, housing recovery

programs many with very few belongings but very. Heavy emotional
loads and they left not, only with essentials but with something,
far more powerful and that is a renewed sense of.
Dignity and hope this whole thing was started by A Woman,
named portia everett a former accountant and mom who once
noticed how often women in shelters Were Overlooked on mother's

day and what started as a very small picnic has
grown into this, full scale celebration, complete, with, food music
decorations and volunteers that offer. Kindness and connection and last

focused on, growth and transformation reminding each woman of her

moms and it was Mother's Day weekend and I don't
know about you, but I was hoping to do absolutely
nothing yesterday and that's not what happened. Of course, we're moms.
I how it works. No, but it wasn't bad. We
went on a family picnic with some of my aunts

and my cousins, and then at the end of the day,
I ended up doing two loads of laundries, so of course,
you know, but.

Did you have to prepare and food or anything for me?
Speaker 2 (06:04):
I did? I did. I did a couple of things,
nothing huge. I bought most of the stuff, but overall,
it was time spent with family. And you know, I
can do the whole sleeping all day thing another day
of the year. It doesn't have to be I guess
Mother's Day. How is your Mother's Day?

We had a Mother's Day miracle at my house really
well technically, on the side of twenty seven through Damascus.
My four year old nonverbal child was in the car
with me coming back from swimming lessons and I.

Got pulled over.

Oh and as the officer is walking up to the car.
My nonverbal child says, Mommy, it's a police car. Wi
you w wow. He has never called me mommy ever.

And so in that moment, I swung my hat around
and I looked at it and I go, what did you say?
And just as that happened, the officers at the window,
introducing himself, and I'm like, I don't know what to
address first. They're so how much just happened in three seconds?

And you want to cry because you're so moved by
the fact that your child finally like called you mommy,
But if you cried, the officer's gonna be like, what's
going on? I know? And well I did when I
got home.

So we walked in the door and I've got tears
in my eyes, I've got hodly onto myles hand, and
my husband goes, what is wrong? And I'm like, there
was a police officer on the side of the road,
and Miles talked, but I didn't get a ticket and
we're safe. But he talked and my husband's like, calm down,
what are you talking about? That is incredible Mother's Day miracle.

I couldn't believe it. He called me mommy. For the
first time.

young boys and you doing what now in the mornings?

Well, it's sort of like an inspiration on the easel
before I leave her work in the morning, because you know,
with our shift, we're not there when they're getting ready
for school in the morning. And so my kids got
a whiteboard easel and I write like little quotes on
it with the date and the weather, you know what
things they have. It is music class today. Are we

going swimming lessons, all of that. So today it says,
today I can do hard things. Today I can ask
for help, and then I have the You know, it's Monday,
May twelfth, the weather is cloudy and rainy. But the
important part is the quote, the inspirational quote. So your
your kids, your sons are how old three and four?

And your four year old can read? He can't.
Speaker 3 (11:14):
He's learning to read already, and that's his favorite thing
to do when he comes downstairs in the morning, helps
you read mom's message.

I bet if you stop doing it, he would definitely notice. Oh, certainly, yeah,
because I've been doing that with my son since he

rather questions? I like that, and then he would answer
whatever would you rather? And then that night at dinner

we would talk about why he chose the answer he chose.
But eventually he got sick of that too, So I
got to come up with different things to leave him
with every morning. But it makes it fun. It makes
it fun, and I'm so glad that you're doing that
with your kids, because even though they sometimes act like
they don't care, this is gonna be like a core
memory for them. I really do think we're creating core

space and the women, arrived from shelters transitional, housing recovery

programs many with very few belongings but very. Heavy emotional
loads and they left not, only with essentials but with something,
far more powerful and that is a renewed sense of.
Dignity and hope this whole thing was started by A Woman,
named portia everett a former accountant and mom who once

day and what started as a very small picnic has
grown into this, full scale celebration, complete, with, food music
decorations and volunteers that offer. Kindness and connection and last
