Toby and Chili Mornings on Demand on ninety seven point
one Wash Up Out.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Toby and Chilly in the Morning. That he's seven point
one wash FM.

Speaker 3 (00:08):
Good Morning. It's Kdoshe from Good Morning Washington in for Toby.

Speaker 4 (00:11):
Well, hello, it's good to see you.

Speaker 5 (00:14):
I got I had a little worrisome task from you.
I was worried an hour ago.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
I was worried I wasn't gonna make it here today,
Chili tell everybody, why, Well, you know, I don't have
a car, so I take mass transportation, or in early
mornings like this one, I have to come in. I
have to take an uber or lyft. And it's not
always that easy to get a car that early in
the morning. You can get them, but it takes a
little extra time. And the car driver I got today,

(00:39):
let's just say, was overly cautious and maybe has never
driven out this way before, and at one point was
going twenty four in a twenty five.

Speaker 4 (00:49):
Twenty four miles an hour.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
Twenty four miles an hour in a twenty five.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
That's when I texted you and said, my driver is
going really slow.

Speaker 4 (00:56):
You weren't kidding.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
I should be there in time.

Speaker 5 (00:59):
Dang, Okay, so in the district and we're in Rockville,
so that's that's a pretty thirty minute distance, thirty five
minute drive, but it took her like fifty forty.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
Five fifty minutes, and I was like, it's getting a
little close here, especially early.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
In the morning, like that you plan everything.

Speaker 4 (01:14):
Well, I'm glad you made it. You did make it.

Speaker 5 (01:16):
And I also noticed that you remembered to bring me
a little piece of equipment that you had borrowed.

Speaker 4 (01:23):
What is this officially called?

Speaker 2 (01:25):
So it's like a plug for your headphones, an adapter
for your headphones.

Speaker 5 (01:29):
Okay, because I didn't want to give the technical name
and that people not know, but kid had borrowed this
adapter from my headphones a while back.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
Maybe four times ago, when I filled in here for Toby.

Speaker 5 (01:39):
And this is a very treasured piece of equipment in
our industry, So when somebody borrows it's it's kind of
understood that they better give it back to you.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
It's not like for you to keep it.

Speaker 5 (01:48):
Definitely, so thank you, at least even in the craziness
of this morning, that you remembered to.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
Bring this back.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
And I also like to say it's a very small
piece of equipment. That could easily get lost in the house,
but I knew exactly where it was, and so excellent.
It is good to be here. You look great all
summery and tan. So glad to be here with you.
And let's get into top stories. What's coming up next?

Speaker 5 (02:09):
Well, the former Nationals GM Mike Rizzo is offering fans
free beer.

Speaker 4 (02:17):
It's all going down tonight.

Speaker 5 (02:19):
I've got all the details coming up, I know right
at Stoby and Chilly in the morning, continues on ninety
seven point one lash FF Top Stories, Top of the
Hour Top Stories presented by Celsius Energy Drinks. Two people
are dead several others injured after a violent series of
shootings in Lexington, Kentucky. It all started yesterday morning when

(02:40):
a suspect shot a state trooper, carjacked vehicle, and then
later opened fire at a church, killing two women and
wounding two men. The standoff ended when police shot and
killed the suspect. US consumers reportedly spent over twenty four
billion dollars during Amazon's Prime Day event. Now that figure

(03:01):
is about nine point six billion more than last year.
The DC Council is going to be voting today on
its new budget, which keeps funding for a Commander Stadium,
but delays a vote on the deal. It also proposes
repealing Initiative eighty two, setting a tipped wage at eight dollars,
with employers covering the rest to reach twenty dollars an hour.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
Laurel Mayor Keith.

Speaker 5 (03:24):
Sidner has issued a executive order enforcing a juvenile curfew
through the end of August, so teens under seventeen are
going to be barred from public places between eleven pm
and five am, with exceptions for those who are accompanied
by a parent, returning from school events or meeting other
specified conditions. Former Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo is offering

(03:46):
fans free beer tonight from five to seven pm at
Penn Quarter Sports Tavern and Walter's Sports Bar. The Rizzo
Family Foundation says it's a thank you for fans support
during his nineteen year tenure. A Rizzo was recently fired
from the team, and Superman raked in one hundred and
twenty three million dollars it's opening weekends, securing the number

(04:10):
one spot ahead of blockbusters like Jurassic World, Rebirth and
f One. The movie forecast today, we've got a floodwatch
in effect from two pm until midnight. Chance of really
strong storms. This afternoon high's around eighty five right now,
seventy four in booie.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
All right, Chili, thanks a lot on kiddoshe in for Toby.
The morning mindset is coming up next. Gets you in
the perfect mindset on this Monday morning when Toby and
Chilly continue, hope your Monday's off to a great start.
It's Toby and Chiley on ninety seven point one Wash FM.
I'm kiddo'she from Good Morning Washington. It's time now for
the morning mindset.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
So this quote is by Shonda Rhimes.

Speaker 5 (04:48):
She says, you can waste your life drawing lines, or
you can live your life crossing them.

Speaker 4 (04:54):
So it's about choice, right.

Speaker 5 (04:56):
You can spend your life setting limits, avoiding risk, doing
what's expected, did staying inside the lines. But if you
do that, you might miss out on real living. Or
you can choose to cross those lines and take chances
and follow your gut, maybe speak up, chase what matters
to you, even if it's uncomfortable or unconventional. It really
is a reminder that growth and joy often come when

(05:18):
you step outside your comfort zone. So Shonda Rhime says,
you can waste your life drawing lines, or you can
live your life crossing them. And if you want, you
can find that quote on the Toby and chilipage atwashfm
dot com or share your own using hashtag morning Mindset.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
Not a bad way to start our Monday. And we
are glad you are here with us. Coming up next
here with Toby and Chilly in the Morning. Imagine if
you just got a smartphone for the first time, what
is the one app or thing that you'd have to
have on that phone to survive. We'll take your calls
at eight six six nine two, seven four three sixty
one and we'll tell you what celebrity just got a
phone for the first time. That's crazy at age fifty.

(06:04):
That's next with Toby and Chilly in the Morning. Is
there something on your phone that you couldn't live without?
Ninety seven point one wash FM. It's Toby and Chilly
in the Morning. I'm Kdoshe from Good Morning Washington. We're
talking about this because musician Jack White from the band
White Stripes was just gifted his first ever cell phone
at the age of fifty.

Speaker 5 (06:23):
Yeah, he had been avoiding getting a cell phone and
he finally got one and now he's got to learn
how to use it, which for those of us who've
had a smartphone or cell phone for decades, it seems
insane because we would feel pretty paralyzed without it, right
most of us, yes, would feel like what it's like
an appendage missing. The thing I really the most for

(06:45):
my phone is email. Before the phone had that ability,
I would have to go run to a computer or
a laptop and respond.

Speaker 4 (06:54):
It's just annoying.

Speaker 5 (06:55):
So for me, that's something I couldn't live without the
ability to at least respond pretty quickly to emails and
get it off my to do list.

Speaker 4 (07:02):
What about you?

Speaker 2 (07:03):
I could not live without my But the most simple
thing is my contacts because oh yeah, I do not
know my partner Kyle's phone number.

Speaker 4 (07:11):
Most of us don't memorize numbers like we did back
in the day.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
That's true, I would not be able to call him,
alisa Ian falls Church, what's it for you?

Speaker 6 (07:19):
I've come to absolutely rely on my phone's GPS. I
think I might even be too dependent on it at
this point. For instance, I use it in my own
city to go places I've already been. It's just really
convenient to figure out where to go.

Speaker 3 (07:33):
Yes, absolutely, in the same way.

Speaker 4 (07:35):
You make a really good point.

Speaker 5 (07:36):
But a lot of the newer cars now have the
GPS is part of the vehicle, so.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
You could get away without it.

Speaker 5 (07:44):
Could technically get away without it. Brian, you're a part
of the show in Gaithersburg. What's something on your phone
you can't live without.

Speaker 7 (07:52):
I can't live without my group chat.

Speaker 3 (07:54):
We talk about everything on there and I.

Speaker 7 (07:55):
Would be completely left out if I didn't have it.

Speaker 5 (07:58):
Wow, Brian, thanks so much for ing the FOMO. There's
a couple of group chats. I wouldn't mind being left out.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
Well, true. Toby and Chilly's Top stories are coming up next.
We'll get you the fund everything happening today and a
look at the weather as well, which is going to
change this afternoon for your drive home. That's all coming
up with Toby and Chilly on ninety seven point one
wash FM.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
Top Stories Top of the Hour.

Speaker 5 (08:21):

(09:04):
Chesapeake Bay Bridge is going to close overnight from ten
pm to five am for deco replacement over the next
three nights. Daytime lane closures are also expected today through Wednesday,
with work starting later Thursday to Saturday nights. Nationals fans
you can score free beer tonight thanks to former GM

(09:25):
Mike Rizzo, so from five to seven pm if you
head to pen Quarters Sports Tavern or Walter's Sports Bar,
you can claim the offer. It's Rizzo's way of thanking
you for nineteen years of support after he was fired
by the team, and according to recent survey, most workers
do not take regular lunch breaks, often due to being

(09:48):
just too busy or distracted. Only thirty six percent break daily,
while fifty nine percent report a three pm slump, underscoring
the need for midday nutrition and mental rest. Forecast for today,
there is a flood watch in effect from two PM
to midnight. Storms could be heavy at times this afternoon.

(10:08):
HI is in the mid eighties right now, though it
is seventy four in Sterling.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
All right, coming up, don't forget the nearly impossible question
for those Hanson tickets in just a few minutes. Also
on the way, I've been telling a lie Chili at
the dog park, but I think you'll support.

Speaker 3 (10:23):
My reasoning behind this. We'll share that.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
Story with you coming up next here on ninety seven
point one wash FM, I'm kiddo'shek in for Toby with
Toby and Chilly in the morning. I'm wash FM Toby
and Chili in the Morning, ninety seven point one wash FM.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
Good Morning. It's kiddo o'she from Good Morning Washington in
for Toby.

Speaker 4 (10:40):
So what is this thing you're doing at the dog
park that you wanted to.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
Yeah, I've been I've been lying to all of the
other dog owners. We've been lying about our five pounds
schwaa biggies age. And I may keep this lie going
for a little bit long.

Speaker 5 (10:54):
Okay, first, before you go any further, Yeah, how old
is big Eie?

Speaker 2 (10:58):
Okay, So he's a senior dog that we took in
from a family friend when he was ten. So it
wasn't your typical adoption where we searched online for a
dog and saw his age and all that kind of
stuff and we were told he was ten, you know whatever.
So we've had him for a couple of years. I believe,
I don't even know the exact date that we got him, but.

Speaker 4 (11:16):
He's twelve or thirteen in real life.

Speaker 2 (11:18):
Yes, I mostly say these days and like anytime someone
asks them, like, he's twelve, And the other day I
was just thinking, I'm like, I've been saying he's been
twelve for a long time. Oh well, anyway, he's got
a vet appointment today and we went to a new vet,
so I had to put in his day to birth
from some old vet papers that we got when we
took him in. And his birthday is May of twenty twelve,

(11:39):
which means he has been thirteen for over three months,
and we continue to say that he is twelve.

Speaker 4 (11:45):
Okay, that's not a huge fudge.

Speaker 2 (11:47):
Well, hang on, When my partner Kyle and I were
talking about this last night, We're like, oh.

Speaker 3 (11:51):
My god, he's thirteen. That means he's almost fourteen. That
means he's getting.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
Older, you know, like when he's twelve, it's just like, oh,
he's not sixteen yet. Because every time we tell people
he's twelve, they're like, oh, oh my god, my Chiua
will live till he was sixteen seventeen. We're like, oh,
we've got so many years with him. Oh, but now
when you hear these thirteen, I'm like, well, wait, that
means maybe only three more years.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
And I'm like, no, I don't want that to be true.
So I'm gonna keep lying.

Speaker 5 (12:14):
You're gonna keep saying twelve, he's twelve, okay, then may
he actually, in health wise be twelve as well?

Speaker 3 (12:20):
It makes me feel better.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
Shelby and Chili's nearly impossible question?

Speaker 3 (12:24):
All right, chilly, what is today's question?

Speaker 5 (12:26):
Every year, this is the top food people pack for
a road trip?

Speaker 4 (12:31):
What is it?

Speaker 2 (12:33):
Eight six six nine two seven four three six one.
If you know the answer to the nearly impossible question,
We're playing for tickets to Hansen at the Hall at
Live coming up in October eight six six nine two
seven four three six one, Chili, what's that question?

Speaker 3 (12:48):
Again?

Speaker 5 (12:48):
Every year, this is the top food that people pack
for a road trip.

Speaker 4 (12:54):
What is it?

Speaker 2 (12:55):
I'm thinking about this if you think you know the
answer eight six six nine two seven four three six one.
We'll have the answer to the nearly impossible question next
with Toby and Chili in the morning on ninety seven
point one.

Speaker 4 (13:06):
Wash f out Toby and.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
Chili's nearly impossible question.

Speaker 2 (13:09):
And I'm kiddoshe in for Toby. We are playing for
tickets to see Hanson at the Hall at Live on
October twenty sixth Chili, what is today's question?

Speaker 5 (13:19):
Every year, this is the top food that people pack
for a road trip.

Speaker 4 (13:24):
What is it?

Speaker 3 (13:25):
Eight six six nine two seven four three six one.

Speaker 4 (13:29):
Good morning, Edward.

Speaker 5 (13:30):
You're part of the show in Sterling. You got the question.
What do you think the answer might be?

Speaker 4 (13:37):
I'm gonna say, beef jerky? Is that something you take
along for road.

Speaker 1 (13:41):
Trips every now and then?

Speaker 8 (13:42):
I do?

Speaker 5 (13:43):
And it always comes in handy with PB and Jay. Yeah,
peanut butter, jelly and some beef jerky. Interesting.

Speaker 3 (13:50):
I love it.

Speaker 5 (13:50):
It's also it's also good protein to keep you fueled
during that road exactly. That's a great answer. It's also
the correct guests.

Speaker 2 (14:01):
Congratulations, you got those tickets to see Hanson at the
Hall at Live on October twenty sixth awesome, thank you,
You're very welcome.

Speaker 4 (14:11):
Make sure you get some beef jerky on your drive
to the Haul at Live.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
All right, well do thanks And as someone who does
a series called road Tripping on Good Morning Washington, I
get beef jerky on road trips all the time.

Speaker 3 (14:21):
I actually do.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
It's a quick, easy meal and it's good for you.
All right, Thanks a lot. We'll play again tomorrow morning,
same time for those Hanson tickets to come on back.
Toby and Chilly's top stories are coming up next Chill.
You'll update us in all of today's top stories, including
some weather that could be in the forecast for your
drive home tonight.

Speaker 3 (14:36):
That's new.

Speaker 1 (14:39):
Top Stories Top of the Hour.

Speaker 5 (14:41):

The Rizzo Family Foundation says it's a thank you for

in five people have fallen for ticket scams, losing an
average of two hundred and seventeen dollars, while twenty eight

(16:09):

social media and urge customers to use verified, secured sellers
to avoid fraud. Forecast today there is a floodwatch in
effect from two pm to midnight. Storms likely this afternoon.
Highs around eighty five right now seventy five in Springfield.

Speaker 2 (16:29):
All right, Chilly, I'm kiddo'she in for Toby. What have
you paid a lot of money for? That was ruined
by someone else? There's a video going viral of something
that happened at a Billie Eilish concert that has one
fan really upset this morning. I don't think it was
that bad. Oh, come, we're going to play the audio
for you and you can be the judge. Coming up next,
Toby and Chilly in the morning on ninety seven point

(16:51):
one Wash FM. Toby is the morning off. I'm kiddo'she
from Good Morning Washington. What have you paid a lot
of money for? That was ruined by someone else?

Speaker 5 (17:00):
I don't know if you've seen this, but a video
went viral of a woman who went to a Billie
Eilish concert and she says that somehow somebody sitting next
to her was belting out and singing along like.

Speaker 2 (17:14):
Opera, Okay, we're gonna play it for you right now
so you can hear exactly what this woman heard.

Speaker 3 (17:26):
I think it's actually lovely.

Speaker 4 (17:29):
Oh stop.

Speaker 5 (17:31):
You go to a concert expecting to hear the artist singing,
not somebody next to you ruining it for you like that.
If you paid money to see a show like that,
Oh come on.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
Well, and I'll just say, I am someone at a
concert that does love to sing along with the songs,
and I can't sing anywhere near at that level. So
I wonder what people have thought standing next to me
at a concert.

Speaker 5 (17:51):
I know, but yours probably blends in with everybody else's.
This opera singer's soprano was like overwhelming everything else.

Speaker 2 (18:00):
I see what you're saying. Is there anything like this
that has happened to you?

Speaker 5 (18:03):
Not at a concert, but something that was ruined after
we paid money for it?

Speaker 4 (18:09):
Was a cruise last year. What happened, Well, you know,
my kid complained the whole time. Oh no, he had meltdowns.
And my husband are like, we're so glad, We're.

Speaker 5 (18:20):
So glad we saved for this family vacation to go
on a cruise.

Speaker 4 (18:25):
What about you.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
You know I had something similar where we were at
a really nice restaurant. They we got there and I said,
can you get just two people in? They're like, yes,
we can get you in, but the tables right by
a door, just so you know, we're gonna be going
in and out of that door a lot. And we're like, oh,
that'll be fine. Oh it wasn't fine.

Speaker 3 (18:41):
It was annoying.

Speaker 2 (18:42):
People were coming in and out, people were hitting a chair.
It's like, we're spending all this money on a nice dinner.
Oh no, really relaxed.

Speaker 4 (18:49):
They should have given you a discount.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
Yeah, yeah, all right.

Speaker 2 (18:52):
If you have a story to share about this, we'd
love to hear what it is. Eight six six nine
two seven four three sixty one. I bet you there's
some more out there. Absolutely, we'll get to that in
just a little while. But first, coming up next, a
story we think will make your Monday. He served over
thirty years in prison. Now this Prince George's county man
is leading efforts to help others rebuild their lives. You'll

(19:15):
get to hear that next.

Speaker 5 (19:16):
As Toby and Chilly in the Morning continues, on ninety
seven point one wash FF.

Speaker 2 (19:20):
Monday Morning in DC, It's Toby and Chilly in the
morning on ninety seven point one wash FM. I'm kid
oo'she It's time for our make your Monday story And
this is about a Prince George's County man that was
in prison for thirty years, learned some valuable lessons and
now he's giving back to his own community.

Speaker 7 (19:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (19:37):
His name is Alonso Turner Bay and at just seventeen,
he was sentenced to eighty years behind bars for robbery
and a shooting. And then he spent more than three
decades in prison. But while he was there, he learned
a lot about life and something shifted in him. Okay,
he didn't let his sentence define him. Alonzo poured himself
into education and spiritual growth and self reflection. He actually

(20:00):
earned a college degree. He mentored others, and then one
day he stepped up to shield a young female correctional
officer from being assaulted. Was an act of courage and
compassion that was going to mark a turning point in
his life. So Alonso currently is the director of the
Returning Citizens Affairs Division for Prince George's County. He is

(20:22):
using his hard one wisdom to help others re enter
society with dignity, whether that's securing a state ID or
accessing health care, finding housing, or even navigating the job market.
Alonzo and his team meet returning citizens with open arms
and lived understanding, since he had been there himself one point,

(20:43):
and so his work is grounded in restoration where he
helps people become better versions of themselves and not just reintegrated,
but also empowered. And this is all backed by state
and local funding. The initiative reflects a broader shift of
course for second chances and healing over punishment, and that's
why we decided to share Alonzo's story as a story

(21:06):
that makes our Monday well.

Speaker 2 (21:07):
And such simple things that you know can be challenging
if you're just starting over, and then to have it
helped come from someone that's been through it before absolutely
makes a huge difference.

Speaker 5 (21:16):
So you can read more about Alonzo on the Toby
and Chili page at washefm dot com.

Speaker 3 (21:21):
Alonso, thanks for making our Monday.

Speaker 2 (21:23):
We'll get to Toby and Chili's top stories coming up
next here with Toby and Chili in the Morning, a
