Speaker 2 (00:05):
Hoping your Monday's off to a great start. We are
Toby and Chili on ninety seven point one Wash FM.
I'm Kiddosche from Good Morning Washington in for Toby.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
How was your weekend?
Speaker 2 (00:14):
My weekend was great. We went on a little road trip,
drove to Pittsburgh for the night to see a concert,
and drove back.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
So is it as hot in Pittsburgh as it is?
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Oh? Wait, it was hot?
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Yeah, because I was hearing in the news that there's
this like.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
Heat off the dome, the heat dome heat.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Damn all the way up and down the east, oh
eastern part of the country. It's just soupy and gross outside.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
It was pretty gross. What about you did you? Were
you able to cool off? And I went to the pool.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Didn't get out of the pool while I was at
the pool because it was just too hot to be out.
And then we went to Rio in Gaithersburg. It's like
a little lake front area where, yeah, a man made
lake where there's restaurants and some activities, and we were
going to after lunch go pedal voating. It was too
hot to do that. We bailed. I was like, you
(01:10):
know what, guys, thirty minutes out in the middle of
the water.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
With and those hot plastic things, and I'm thinking it
would just be melty into the stuck in it.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
There's no chance. So yeah, no, and we're not no relief, folks.
This week is going to be really hot. Today ninety
four the high, but the heat in next the triple digits.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
So yeah, and we're already almost at eighty this morning
as we get started. Top Stories on the way next.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
Yeah, So Israel says it's starting a tactical pause on
military activities in Gaza. We've got all the details, all
the way. Top Stories, Top of the Hour, Top Stories
presented by Celsius Energy Drinks. President Trump is touting a
new trade deal with the European Union as quote the
biggest ever, setting tariffs at fifteen percent for European goods.
(01:59):
The EU has agreed to buy seven hundred and fifty
billion dollars in energy and invest another six hundred billion
in the US. Ending months of trade uncertainty. Israel is
temporarily pausing military operations and parts of Gaza to allow
humanitarian aid to reach civilians. That daily pause runs from
ten am to eight pm. Reports of a suspicious package
(02:21):
near the White House yesterday prompted a response from metropd's
Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit. Meanwhile, Secret Service officers arrested a
man who climbed a fence near the Treasury Building yesterday,
but it's not clear if he was connected to the
package report. A former ANNARUNTL County teacher and pastor facing
(02:42):
multiple child sex abuse charges after allegedly assaulting five students
at Elvaton Christian Academy between twenty twenty and twenty twenty five.
Fifty eight year old William Jones remains held without bond.
Terry McLaurin reported to Washington Commander's training camp yesterday, ending
a four day holdout despite lacking a new contract. He
(03:04):
was placed on Physically unable to perform list because of
an ankle injury, and contract negotiations remain unresolved. And the
Tee app it's a platform where verified women share warnings
about problematic men. Well, apparently it was hacked, resulting in
thousands of photos and ID images being leaked online. That
(03:24):
leaked data, reportedly about two years old, appeared on the
website four chan forecast today hot, hot, hot, sunny ninety
four the high with the heat index and the triple
digits right now seventy four and manassas all.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
Right, thanks Chili, I'm kiddo, o'she. And for Toby mondays
can be tough. That's why we have the Morning Mindset
to help get you going. On this Monday morning, we'll
read you an inspirational quote. Next Great nineties throwback for
a hot summer morning, ninety seven point one Wash FM
with Toby and Chili in the morning. I'm kiddo'she. It
is time now for our morning mindset.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
So Charles Dickens said, the sun himself is weak when
he first rises, and gathers strength and courage as the
day gets on. This quote, of course a metaphor for
our human growth and resilience. Just as the sun begins
at stay pretty dim and low on the horizon, it
gains brightness and warmth as time passes, and people too
often start new endeavors, whether it's a day, a journey,
(04:20):
or personal challenge, feeling really unsure or vulnerable. But then
with time and experience and also your persistence, your confidence
builds and your strength emerges. So Charles Dickens says the
sun himself is weak when he first rises, and then
gathers strength and courage as the day gets on. You
can find that quote or share your own on the
(04:42):
Toby and Chili page at washfm dot com.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
Great for a Monday morning, All right? Coming up next,
Remember when doctor's notes could get you out of anything?
Well not anymore. We'll tell you where they are saying
an absent is an absent no matter what. And we'll
take your calls on when you played hooky and what
a doctor's excuse of gotten you out of it? Eight
six six ninety two seven four three six one. That's
eight six six ninety two, seven four three six one
(05:07):
to join our conversation. It's Toby and Chilly in the
Morning on ninety seven point one wash FM. Toby and
Chilly in the Morning ninety seven point one wash FM.
I'm kidd o'she Have you ever played hooky where a
doctor's excuse would not have gotten you out of it?
We're talking about it because of this story.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
Okay, So in Tennessee, the Lawrence County School System has
a new policy. They will no longer accept doctor's note
as an automatic excuse for student absences medical notes. No,
thank you, it doesn't matter anymore. They're saying absent is absent. Yeah, okay,
so that's just gonna, you know, be against your whatever
(05:43):
they call it, the attendance your attendance record. And so
parents are not happy about this because like, well that's
not right. I mean, if my kid is sick, you
don't want me to send a sick kid to school,
do you to spread all the germs? Nor do I
want other sick kids to come into school. But they're
doing this because, as we know, sometimes those doctor's notes
(06:03):
are a front for something else.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
I had the best doctors I could have got I
got out of everything. They would write me I just
calm up, and they'd write me in an excuse. Jill
and Arlington, one of you played hooky and a doctor's
excuse would not have gotten you out of this.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
I skipped school once and snapped back in the house
through the bathroom window, and I sent the whole day
watching Judge Judy like a fugitive.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
It's still the most rebellious thing I've ever done. Into
Tama pants.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Totally.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
It was a nice day for you.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
I don't know well, judge, Judy, really weren't.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
Maybe a little stressful, actually.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
Exactly, Brad.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
You did not skip school, but you did skip work
and it turned out to pay off. Welcome to the
conversation in Manassas.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
And I played hookie at work one time, and I
went to a baseball game and it was the best
decision I ever made.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
I met my future wife at that game.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
Oh see, even if you did get in trouble with
the boss and least you got your forever and ever.
Speaker 2 (06:56):

Speaker 4 (07:19):
Top Stories, Top of the hour.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
President Trump says a new trade deal with the European
Union will lower tariffs to fifteen percent. He said the
EU has agreed to purchase seven hundred and fifty billion
dollars worth of energy and six hundred billion dollars worth
of investments in the US. Eleven people are recovering after
a violent stabbing at a Walmart in northern Michigan on Saturday.
(07:42):
Forty two year old suspect was quickly arrested with help
from bystanders. A thirty six year old man's been arrested
after allegedly committing an armed robbery in a Tyson's parking garage,
followed by a burglary at a nearby fair Oaks home.
Police say Mohammed Asif held a rifle to a woman's face,
stole her purse, and then broke into her boyfriend's house
(08:03):
just minutes later, stealing valuable Pokemon cards from a safe.
A twenty two year old man from Woodbridge, Johnny Romero Corrius,
has been charged with felony homicide and the death of
his four month old son. The baby was hospitalized July
sixteenth with severe injuries from alleged abuse, and then died
(08:23):
four days later. Montgomery County officials are urging upgrades to
local infrastructure to better handle severe weather after recent flash flooding.
Efforts include improving stormwater systems increasing flood rescue resources and
also updating flood plane maps, while more severe weather is
expected later in the week. And Ozzy Osborne's memoir Last
(08:47):
Rites is going to be published October seventh, just months
after his passing on July twenty second. The book offers
a candid look at his later years, his health battles,
and also his final perform rmance with Black Sabbath at
their back to the beginning concert forecast today hot and
sunny at least ties around ninety four with the heat
(09:08):
index around one hundred. Right now, it's seventy five in Lanham.
Speaker 2 (09:12):
Toby's off this morning. I'm kiddo o'she coming up next.
A major WASHFM artist is getting called out online for
not singing at his shows, instead turning to the audience
to sing his songs, and some fans that paid big
money to see this global superstar saying that's not right.
We'll tell you who it is and discuss next here
on ninety seven point one wash FM. A nice eighties
(09:32):
throwback for you on this Monday. I'm kidd o'she in
for Toby on ninety seven point one wash FM. Okay,
we're talking about audience participation. At a concert. Good thing
or bad thing. This is where the artist you know,
turns the mic on the audience during a popular song
and everyone sings along to that part of the song
that everyone knows.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
It's a very group effort. Sometimes it's nice, you're all
feeling good singing along, but too much is not a
good thing. And Justin Timberlake is getting a lot of
grief online for people who are seeing his shows because
he tends to put that microphone and have the audience
(10:11):
sing way too much. Oh god, he's not even trying.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
Well, No, and the participation isn't very good either.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
That's true. It doesn't sound I mean because the phone
the person is recording with is muting a lot of
the annoys. But they can't stop. The feeling is one
of his biggest hits, right, and so of course everybody
knows the words that song, and I get that they're
singing along naturally, But for Justin to have the audience
sing the majority of it, it is annoying. Well, it's
like I paid all that good money to hear you
(10:54):
sing one of my favorite songs live, not having people
you know in the stadium sing it well.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
And anytime we go to a concert. You know that
every concert has those songs where you're like, well, that's
not really the one I want to hear, and you
wait for these ones till the end and now you're
not even getting to see them.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
Did I know you saw Kesha recently? She does she
do this at all with any of her songs?
Speaker 2 (11:14):
Yeaes sar over the weekend, and she has so many
popular songs where people sing along. She would do it
for a quick second and then right back to singing.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
See I think that's fine, A little quickie fine, but
not like as long as justin Timberlake did it. So
consider this a warning. If you're paying good money to
see JT, well warm up your vocal cords, cause you're
going to be doing most of the.
Speaker 4 (11:33):
Same Keby and Chilly's nearly impossible question.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
All right, and let's warm up your brain on this
Monday morning with our nearly impossible question. What is today's question?
Speaker 3 (11:41):
Fifty nine percent of people would rather gain ten pounds
than to give up this every day? What is it?
Speaker 2 (11:49):
Okay? This is a big one. Got tickets to Rob
Thomas at MGM National Harbor. If you know the answer
to the nearly impossible question eight six six nine two
seven four three six one. That's eight six six nine
two seven four three six one. What's that question again?
Speaker 3 (12:03):
Fifty nine percent of people would rather gain ten pounds
and to give up this every day? What is it?
Speaker 2 (12:11):
The answer to the nearly impossible question, plus more music
to get you going on this Monday Morning next ninety
seven point one Wash FM.
Speaker 4 (12:18):
Toby and Chili's Nearly Impossible Question.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
I'm Kiddoshee and for Toby, we're playing for tickets to
Rob Thomas at MGM National Harbor. What is today's question? Chili?
Speaker 3 (12:28):
Fifty nine percent of people would rather gain ten pounds
then give up this every day? What is it?
Speaker 2 (12:37):
Eight six six nine two seven four three six one.
Speaker 3 (12:41):
Frank, good morning, thanks for being a part of the
show in Alexandra. How are you on this Monday?
Speaker 4 (12:46):
I'm good, Thank you?
Speaker 2 (12:47):
How are you?
Speaker 3 (12:48):
We're doing well. And so you've got the question, what
do you think the answer might be?
Speaker 2 (12:52):
Coffee?
Speaker 3 (12:53):
Coffee? All right?
Speaker 2 (12:55):
So you say coffee, just f yo.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
Yeah, where are you from? Frank? That the kid is
that's right. You've got an accent. No, No, that's really
not my accent. I'm actually from New Mexico. Oh okay,
so you said coffee. Would you rather gain ten pounds
and have to give up having your coffee every day?
Speaker 2 (13:12):
I'm not a coffee person.
Speaker 4 (13:14):
I love it, but I really don't care.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
So what is the beverage that you would choose in life?
Speaker 2 (13:20):
Ooh, tequila? That's another way to start today.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
So Frank is smart, even though personally he knows it
would be tequila. He knows fifty nine percent is probably
too high for tequila and coffee actually is the correct answer. Congratulations, Frank, woo, thank.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
You, nice time you got those ticks to Rob Thomas
at MGM National Harbor on August tenth.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
Awesome and thank you thanks to our friends at Live Nation.
We're gonna have another pair of those tickets tomorrow with
another nearly impossible question with Toby and Chilly in the
Morning on ninety seven point one Wash FM.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
Top Stories coming up next to just how hot is
it going to get? And how long will this heat
stick around? Chili will update us and all of that.
Speaker 4 (13:59):
Next Top stories, top of the new.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
US European Union trade deal will lower tariffs to fifteen percent,
with the President calling it the biggest of all deals.
The EU has agreed to buy seven hundred and fifty
billion dollars in energy and six hundred billion in US investments.
Israel says it's starting a tactical pause on military activities
(14:25):
in Gaza so that aid can reach starving Palestinians. The
decision was reportedly made in coordination with the UN and
other international aid groups. Reports of a suspicious package near
the White House yesterday prompted a response from METROPDS Explosive

who climbed a fence near the US Treasury Building yesterday,
(14:48):

a new contract. He was placed on the physically unable
to perform list because of an ankle injury and contract
negotiations remain unresolved, and according to a recent survey, Americans
say they need eight hundred and thirty nine thousand dollars
to feel financially comfortable, which is far less than the
(15:36):
two point three million dollars they associate with being wealthy.
When defining wealthy, respondents prioritized happiness, financial resources, and physical
health as their top indicators. Forecast for today's going to
be sunny and hot, highs around ninety four with the
heat index around one hundred. Right now, it's seventy six
(15:56):
degrees in Stafford.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
Toby's off this morning on Kdoshi from Good Morning Washington.
Have you ever gone all out for a concert? Was
it worth it? My partner Kyle and I did something
over the weekend that we've never done before for a
concert and it was worth every penny. We'll tell you
what it is next on ninety seven point one wash
FF Toby and Chiley in the Morning ninety seven point
(16:19):
one Wash FM. I'm kidd o'she from Good Morning Washington.
Hope you had a great weekend. Have you ever gone
all out for a concert and was it worth it?
Speaker 3 (16:28):
Why are you asking this question?
Speaker 2 (16:29):
My partner, Colin, and I went all out for a
concert and we haven't done this in a very long time,
and let me tell you, it was worth it.
Speaker 3 (16:36):
So tell us who it was for and what the
venue was and what all out means.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
Yeah, So Scissor Sisters and Kesha are out on tour
right now. Siss Sister is one of my favorite bands,
Kesha one of my partner's favorite artists, and I love
Kesha as well, so it was a win win for everybody.
We went to Pittsburgh to see the show at a
venue much like Jiffy Lub Live, okay, because they're not
getting much closer than this, and I just wanted to
see this show. So when we were researching the tickets,
(17:02):
it was like we could sit in the grass seats
and just kind of have a fun night. And when
I was younger, I loved nothing more than hanging out
in the grass seats and that did not bother me.
But I'm a little bit older now and as we
were buying those tickets, we found covered seats and covered
seats a little bit closer. We're only a little bit
more money, so we did those. So now we're covered,
we're protected from the rain, and it did rain. And
(17:25):
then they asked you, would you like to upgrade to
VIP parking. Oh, you get in quicker and out quicker.
And anyone that's been to these venues before knows that
you can sometimes sit in the parking lot for hours. Yeah. True. Again,
when you're younger, you're like, I don't care, I'll sit
and hang out in the parking lot all night. Not anymore,
so we did the VIP parking. Then it asks you
(17:45):
would you like VIP bathroom access? And then I'm like, yes,
I would.
Speaker 3 (17:51):
That's so great.
Speaker 2 (17:52):
We did upgrade, upgrade, upgrade, And let me tell you, Chili,
that's the way you see a concert.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
Well, when you're dueling kids, perhaps you have the budget
for such a thing. But I will warn you of
the risk of this.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
What's that because now that.
Speaker 3 (18:06):
You've had the taste, have no lines for the bathroom
and no worries about parking and covered seats, it could
potentially ruin all future concerts.
Speaker 2 (18:15):
You are correct, all right? We want to know when
have you gone all out for a concert and was
it worth it? Eight six six nine two seven four
three six. One would love for you to share your
stories this morning we'll take your calls coming up in
just a bit. Plus we've got your make your Monday
story that's on the way next.
Speaker 4 (18:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
So two brothers and Potomac are helping kids dive into
swimming success by donating some essential gear. More on that
as Toby and Chilling in the Morning continues on ninety
seven point one wash FM.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
Good morning, It's Toby and Chilly on ninety seven point
one Wash FM. I'm kiddoshe in for Toby on Mondays.
We like to share stories with you that will make
your Monday, and we think we found a perfect local story.
Speaker 3 (18:54):
This is out of Potomac, Maryland. Two brothers creating real
change through their love of swimming. So after seventeen year
old Maximus Da Vinnie was lent a high performance tech
suit that helped him really approve his race time, he
realized how access to proper gear could transform a swimmer's potential,
and that experience led him and his fourteen year old
brother Jay Cole to take action. They teamed up with
(19:17):
their friend Natalie and they launched Waves for Change. This
is a nonprofit that's dedicated to collecting and donating swim
gear to young athletes who are in need, so it
could be from tech suits to finns and goggles. The
group really focuses on providing the often expensive essentials that
can stand in the way of participation and success in
competitive swimming. So for these Diviny Brothers, it's about leveling
(19:40):
the playing field so that all kids can experience the
sport they love. And then for Natalie, she lost a
young family member to drowning, and so this whole effort
is driven by a mission to promote water safety and
access to swim education. So in just one year they
have collected more than one hundred thousand dollars and gear donations,
(20:01):
and they're hoping to get to two hundred thousand dollars
by Christmas. They've got bins at local pools and growing
corporate sponsorships are really helping fuel their efforts. They handed
out swim gear to kids in Baltimore. You know, what
started with one act of kindness has now grow into
this huge movement helping kids feel confidence, safe, and excited
(20:22):
to dive into the water. So we want to thank
the Divini Brothers and Potomac and their friend Natalie for
launching waves for change and really bringing us a story
that makes our Monday.
Speaker 2 (20:33):
Yeah, thank you Chilli for bringing us that good story
on a Monday morning. And let's hope for some more
future Olympian swimmers from our region, which would be great.
Toby and Chili's Top stories are on the way next
