Toby and Chili Mornings on demand on ninety seven point
one wash FM.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Good morning, It's Toby and Chili in the Morning, ninety
seven point one Wash FM. I'm kidd oshe Chili. Back
from vacation a week off. The last time we saw you,
you were afraid to go in the ocean. How was
your ocean vacation?
Speaker 3 (00:19):
Well, I have to explain why. I've never been afraid
of the ocean. But before we headed down to the
Outer Banks, I was seeing on local Facebook pages down
there that there was a lot of jellyfish the last
couple of weeks that there was sea lice and rip currns,
And I'm like, geez, like, really, we get there, the
weather perfect, wonderful, Yeah, but because of some tropical storm
(00:41):
way off the coast, the ocean was rough and there
were dangerous rip currents. So it was like double red
flag days on, not even single flag, you know, it
was double and so we really couldn't go in the
ocean anyway.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
So your fears, you didn't have to worry about it.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
No, I mean one day, a single red flag and
I let my son just roll around in the surf
right right where the waves were breaking like close to
shore so he wouldn't get swept away. But most of
the time we were just at the pool and at
least we had the view of the ocean from the
balcony and it didn't rain, which was wonderful, and there's
(01:19):
plenty to do down there, so it was fine for
us overall.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
And now, yeah, maybe by your next ocean vacation it'll
be less scary, have less jellyfish.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
And yes, we're just fortunate to have gotten out of Vienna, Virginia.
There you go, That's all I care about, truly.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
That's a great way to start on Monday as well,
with an attitude like that.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
Top story is on the way next.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
Yeah, so the President's going to be holding a news
conference this morning about violent crime in DC and his plans.
We'll get to that in just a few minutes, as
Toby and Chilly in the Morning continues on ninety seven
point one wash FM.
Speaker 5 (01:51):
Top Stories, Top of the Hour.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Top Stories presented by Celsius Energy Drinks. President Trump's going
to be holding a news conference attend this morning a
violent crime in DC, calling the nation's capital one of
the most dangerous cities in the world, and vowing to
make it one of the safest. NATO Secretary General Mark
Rutte said Friday's meeting with President Trump and Russian leader
Vladimir Putin in Alaska could be a key step toward
(02:18):
ending the war in Ukraine. The President has yet to
reveal the exact location. A tragic house fire in Waldorf, Maryland,
yesterday morning killed six residents, including four children and two adults.
The blaze reportedly started in an enclosed porch, and the
cause remains under investigation. A mass shooting in northwest Baltimore
(02:39):
Saturday night left six people injured, including a five year
old girl, and also claimed the life of a thirty
eight year old man. Lea say that someone opened fire
on a group who were eating crabs outdoors. No suspects
have been identified. Montgomery County Public Schools reported that around
two hundred summer school staff have yet to receive full
payment because of issues with a digital payroll system. The
(03:03):
superintendent says that those who are affected will be paid
for all recorded hours in the upcoming paycheck. And according
to a recent study, over eighty percent of Americans carry
debt averaging forty two thousand dollars, yet sixty six percent
hide it. From loved ones because of shame, A lot
of folks don't want to burden others or fear judgment,
(03:26):
leading to mental health struggles. A forecast for today, it
is going to be a partly cloudy day. Highs around
eighty seven. Right now it is sixty five in Manassas.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
All right, Chili, thanks for sharing top stories with us
this morning. I'm kiddoshe in for Toby Mondays can be tough.
That's why we have the Morning Mindset to help get
you in the right space. Chili will share an inspirational
quote with us next, plus more music to get your
Monday started on wash FM insynct to get it started
on a Monday morning together ninety seven point one Wash
FM with Toby and Chile in the morning. I'm kiddoshit,
(04:00):
it's time now for our morning mindset.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
So this is my Franklin D. Roosevelt who said a
smooth sea never made a skilled sailor. It reminds us
that true skill, strength and resilience really is built through
facing challenges, not avoiding them. Just like sailors only learn
to navigate or adapt and survive by braving rough waters,
we all grow by confronting life storms head on. Yes,
(04:26):
it's in moments of struggle and uncertainty and hardship that
we discover our own capabilities. We sharpen our judgment, and
we gain the confidence we need to handle whatever comes next.
So Franklin D. Roosevelt said, a smooth sea never made
a skilled sailor. Now you can find that quote or
share your own using hashtag Morning Mindset on the Toby
(04:49):
and Chili page at washfm dot com.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
All right, Chili back from vacation and is there that
one picture you must take on every vacation. Chili will
share what hers is and we want to hear from
you as well. This morning eight six six nine two
seven four three six one. More of Toby and Chile
in the morning. Next ninety seven point one wash FM
with Toby and Chile in the morning. I'm kidd O'Shea
as we welcome Chili back and maybe a lot of
(05:13):
people as well from a week of vacation. We're talking
about those must take vacation photos and.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
Also the one you typically post eight six six nine
two seven four three six one is the phone number.
I noticed that during our trips to the Outer Banks,
I always take that one shot of the ocean from
my vantage point on the beach. I'm not in the photo.
It's literally the surf.
Speaker 4 (05:37):
Just the ocean, just the ocean.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
Yeah, that is my go to, one, definite pick that
I post on social media. Overall, though we really didn't
take a lot of photos.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
You're down on your picture count this year. It was weird, like.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
I like to memorialize so many moments on vacation, especially
when you have a child.
Speaker 4 (05:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
It wasn't until the third day when my sister texted
me and said, hey, send me some pigs and I said, honestly,
we haven't taken any. And then I felt this pressure
to make up for.
Speaker 4 (06:05):
Taking more pictures to show. Yeah, if we were on vacation, I.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
Don't know, not DEAs or even to post, but even
for me to have in my own personal database. Yeah,
I don't have that many.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
I think it's a good sign of seeing you're staying
off your phone a little bit, but yes, you know.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
And being in the moment.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
Yeah, and we don't need one hundred and fifty photos
of the same beach front Lindsay in Fairfax, what's that
photo for you?
Speaker 1 (06:27):
So I'm an island traveler, so I basically have to
get the perfect photo of me walking along the beach
at sunset, wearing a cute sun dress, waves at my feet.
Speaker 5 (06:37):
Just a tradition for everywhere I go.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
I never look good for those insta photos on the beach.
You know, people look perfectly like taking that one step
or looking back into the horizon.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
Not I. Yeah, I was gonna say, I know that photo.
I've just never seen that photo or made that photo,
made that because we just fail miserably at it. Top

President Trump plans to unveil a new strategy for DC
to press conference later this morning. He said the plan
is going to tackle crime, improve cleanliness, and also restore
the city's physical condition. People, including four children, died yesterday

Amtrak opened Track twenty two at DC's Union Station. The

It's going to be nice, partly cloudy, eighty seven the

Speaker 2 (09:26):
Kiddo'she in for Toby. I've read one book all the
way through, probably my entire life. Technology has made our
jobs easier in a lot of ways. But is there
something you miss from the old office. There's a list
out this morning that we want to share with you
of things from the office past. Would we want to
bring any of these back or run down that list?
Speaker 5 (09:47):
Next? Wash FM Traffic Toby.

And Chilly in the morning, ninety seven point one wash FM.
I'm kidd o'shee. We're talking about what traditional office items
we just don't miss anymore.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
No, there was a survey of them adults, and they
said that a lot of the office items that are
becoming relics of the past include fax machines, rollerdexes, and
those bulky filing cabinets. Yeah, I don't remember the last
time I physically had to fax something.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
I do remember having to file files and file cabinets
when I first started out.
Speaker 4 (10:19):
Yeah, radio, I don't miss those those. Yeah, the fax machine.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
I feel like we still do have a fax machine
at our office, just in case somebody needs to fax something.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
But yeah, is there is there a relic that you
guys got rid of that you wish you had.
Speaker 4 (10:33):
We don't have desk phones anymore at Channel seven.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
So how do you call somebody?
Speaker 2 (10:38):
You call them through teams and it just comes on
your computer, or you just call them on your cell phone.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
Yeah, those landline desk phones are becoming a relic, for sure.
We still have them around here, but people don't use
them that much. You know what, I kind of wish
we didn't get rid of what's that assigned cubicle seat
or office Now it's like the collaborative space everyone's work.
You could just connect to a to see. No. I
want my own thanks, I want to decorate my own plate, I.
Speaker 4 (11:03):
Want my own drawer. I want to put some pictures. Yeah, exactly.

How are you this morning? I'm fantabulous, not as I'm
better than yesterday, but not as good as tomorrow. Well,
let's see if we can change that. You've got the question,
what do you think the answer is, I'll say the
handles on the refrigerator, the door handles. Do you wipe
(12:27):
those after I don't know, a couple of uses or
do you just kind of leave them with all the
fingerprints on there? My wife probably wife's every day with
the lights all white. Oh, she's a smart woman. That's
an excellent guest, Dennis. It's also the correct answer this morning.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
Congrats.
Speaker 2 (12:47):
Yay, you got those two tickets to the Commanders versus
the Bengals preseason game at Northwest Stadium on August eighteenth.

around breakfast time yesterday morning. Three people were rescued, while

that fire started in an enclosed porch. A fifty year
old man named Akbar Unisi was charged in Fairfax County
with multiple offenses, including taking indecent liberties with children, after
(15:10):
being found with a fourteen year old back in April Uness.
He fled to istambul but then was arrested upon returning
to the US on August third. And According to a
recent study, eighty seven percent of parents find that playing
with their kids is one of the best parts of parenthood.
Some popular activities include beach trips, zoo visits and theme
(15:31):
park rides, while many parents secretly enjoy going on swings,
bounce houses, coloring, and water fights, making seventy nine percent
of them feel about fourteen years younger when doing so.
Forecast for today partly Clady's guys, how's it going to
be around eighty seven? Right now? Sixty five in Riverdale?
Speaker 2 (15:50):
Excellent? I'm kidd o'she in for Toby. There is a
new trend for relieving stress, and Chili's trying to put
an end to it before it makes its way to
the US. Tell you what this is, plus we want
to know how do you release stress? Eight six six

Speaker 3 (16:18):
Have you heard about this trend in China where young
adults to soothe themselves or to relieve stress, they are
sucking on pacifiers, adult pacifiers.
Speaker 2 (16:34):
Now, this generation is already having some struggles, aren't they?
Speaker 4 (16:37):
With the what we think of them?
Speaker 3 (16:39):
It's very nostalgic. Act I know, sucking on a passy, but.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
We're talking eighteen nineteen year olds are putting pacifiers into
relief stress.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
Yeah, I mean they're adults. It's like they're grown ups
too that are doing this.
Speaker 7 (16:51):
Now.
Speaker 3 (16:52):
I am hoping and praying this trend does not make
it over here to the US.
Speaker 4 (16:55):
You don't think this is a good idea.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
No, I get it. We are stressed, we are going
through some mental health stuff. I get it. But I
do not think the answer is a pacifier. First of all,
it's so infantile. I don't think I could take anyone
seriously if I'm out running errands and I see someone
with a pacifier in their mouths. I also think there
(17:17):
are other ways that we could be relieving struggle.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Well, I like that eight six six nine two seven
four three six one. Let's try to put a list
together of better ways than adult pacifiers. Mindy in Germantown,
what would you put on the list?
Speaker 6 (17:33):
I'm not gonna lie, but like a nice glass of
wine always relieves the struss from my body. It really
just takes the edge off that and working out. I
know that sounds like total opposite, but full of work.
Speaker 4 (17:46):
Yes, that's true.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
The working out part. I really wholeheartedly support getting a
little exercise. But the reason that psychologists say people are
going back to the pacifiers is because it's a regression,
right They they think back to an early stage of
life where they felt secure and comfort. Okay, that's that's
why the pacifier.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
I still think there's better ways that we can relieve stress,
So share that with us right now. Eight sixty six
nine two seven four three sixty one. We'll get to
some of your calls coming up in just a little bit.
Speaker 3 (18:14):

Speaker 4 (22:05):
Down and Arlington, Welcome to the show.
Speaker 7 (22:08):
My favorite way to relieve stress is probably going for
long walk in nature. The combination of fresh air, a
change of scenery and movement is a great way to
clear my mind and relax.
Speaker 2 (22:19):
That is great advice, don and I actually did that
this weekend. I had a little rough start to Saturday morning.
Kyle looked at me at one point and was like,
you need to figure this out, and I'm like I'm
going to go to the park.

scandalous television. Have you seen The Hunting Wives on Netflix?
Speaker 4 (23:03):
I know where you're going with that.
