Toby and Chili Mornings on Demand on ninety seven point
one Wash.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
It feels good to say it's a Thursday morning in
DC ninety seven point one Wash FM with Toby and
Chilly in the morning. I'm kiddoshe and for Toby. This
week and fifteen years ago today, something very very special happened.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
I was gonna say historic, but it was.

Speaker 4 (00:20):
Not a story, although I never thought it would ever
happen to me. Yes, my husband proposed it's our engagement anniversary.
And the only reason I know is because Facebook memories
told me this morning.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
What would we do without Facebook memory?

Speaker 4 (00:32):
Honestly, And my husband doesn't need any kind of nudge
or reminder. He's got an incredible memory, so he's much
better at remembering dates. That's kind of the joke on
the show, as I sometimes forget even our wedding anniversary. Yeah,
but no, Yeah, he proposed to me on the National
Mall fifteen years ago on a very hot and humid
August stay after we went kayaking on the Potomac.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Not different than today. You're going to be hot in here,
you know what.

Speaker 4 (00:54):
It's almost identical really to today's forecast. Yeah, that's great.
Highs around nine today. Now, we didn't have any storms
on that day. But no, it's good, No, it's good.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Do you celebrate your engagement anniversary before.

Speaker 4 (01:09):
We had our son, we would, No, we have actually
even after Dinado was born.

Speaker 5 (01:14):
We'll go on a lunch date. Yeah, well he'll definitely.

Speaker 4 (01:17):
We don't celebrate with gift exchanges, if that's what you mean.
But we'll commemorate sometimes we don't. It's okay, you know,
we'll just say happy engagement versary.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Now I have one other question, because you mentioned that
you went kayaking before this. I know some women would say, like,
I want to make sure I have a nice outfit
on I want to look good for the pictures. And
like you said, it was posted on Facebook. So how
did you feel like getting engaged after kayaking? Being river
and sweaty smelling. I don't care.

Speaker 5 (01:44):
I didn't care. Wait, I was a hot mess, literally
a hot mess.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
And we did have somebody, a tourist who clapped for
us when she saw what was happening. She came over
and we asked her to take a photo. And even
the photo didn't turn out great perfect, I was like,
who cares? It doesn't erase the fact that.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
I'm a day yeah, I believe it.

Speaker 5 (02:02):
Somebody wants to marry me.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Welcome, congratulations and here we are fifteen years later.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
A beautiful family that you have.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
And if you're celebrating something special today, we're glad we
get to start the day with you as well. Chile
is working on Top stories coming up next well.

Speaker 4 (02:16):
The Trump's administration is expanding their anti crime patrols in DC.

Speaker 5 (02:21):
With those National Guard troops twenty four to seven. We've
got the details next.

Speaker 6 (02:30):
Top Stories, Top of the Hour.

Speaker 4 (02:32):
Top Stories presented by Celsius Energy Drinks. The Trump administration
has expanded anti crime patrols in DC, with the National
Guard troops now operating twenty four to seven. Since the
federal takeover of the police department. They say more than
one hundred arrests have been made, including one for homicide.
Two fifteen year olds from Hyattsville will stay in custody

(02:54):
until their next court hearing for allegedly taking part in
an August third attempted carjacking in Northwest East that left
a nineteen year old former DOGE staffer injured. Now they
could be tried as adults if the court rules that
they're beyond rehabilitation in the juvenile system. The Louden County
School Board voted to keep its policy allowing transgender students

(03:15):
to use facilities matching their gender identity, despite a US
Education Department finding that it violates Title nine. Board leaders
stated the decision reflects legal tension between federal guidance and
binding court precedent. Nearly fifty small Maryland businesses are receiving
a share of five hundred thousand dollars from m DOT

(03:36):
to help them stay afloat during the Purple Line construction.
Grants ranging from five thousand dollars to forty thousand dollars
aim to preserve jobs as work continues to at least
late twenty twenty seven.

Speaker 5 (03:49):
Well.

Speaker 4 (03:50):
The President announced this year's Kennedy Center honorees yesterday. The
list includes Sylvester Stallone, George Strait, Gloria Gaynor Kiss, and
Michael Crawford. President Trump also confirmed he's going to be
hosting the December ceremony and more entertainment news Dancing with
the Stars. Judge Derek Huff has been named the new

(04:11):
host of the entertainment news program EXTRAP. He's going to
be replacing Billy Bush, who announced his departure earlier this
year after a five year run. Forecast Today, much like yesterday, partley,
cloudy and humid, Hi's getting up to near ninety and
a chance of more storms later on. Right now, seventy
three in Chevy Chase. All right, thanks Chile, I'm kiddo.
O'she in for Toby. We have an inspirational quote to

(04:32):
get you in the right mindset. It's our morning mindset.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
We'll share that with you next, plus more music on
this Thursday Morning with Toby and Chile on ninety seven
point one wash FM. Bill Collins in the year Tonight
ninety seven point one wash FM. It's Toby and Chile
in the morning tomorrow are best of the eighties. Weekend
kicks off right here on WASHFM. Time now for the
morning mindset.

Speaker 4 (04:52):
Here's the quote today, do your little bit of good
where you are. It's those little bits of good put
together that overwhelm the world. This quote by Desmond Tutu
reminds us that even small acts of kindness can have
a very powerful impact when they're all combined. So you
don't need to make these grand gestures or solve the
world's problems alone. Helping others in simple everyday ways, whether

(05:15):
it's giving someone a smile, lending a helping hand, or
standing up for somebody really adds up. So again, Desmond
two two says, do your little bit of good where
you are. And it's those little bits of good put
together that overwhelm the world. And you can find that
quote on the Toby and Chili page at waschef m
dot com.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
Love that.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
Just try smiling a little bit more today, all right,
and kidochet and for Toby coming up next? Should grandparents
be allowed to buy their grandkids whatever they want? We're
talking about this because yesterday Chili shared that she was
not happy with the purchase that her dad made for Donado.
We got a talkback message inside the free iHeartRadio app.
We will share that with you. Are they on your
side or your father's side?

Speaker 3 (05:56):
Team Chili? Please because that's next.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Hilly in the Morning ninety's seven point one wash fmm
kiddo'she from Good Morning Washington and should grandparents be allowed
to buy their grandkids whatever they want?

Speaker 3 (06:07):
Here's why we're talking about it.

Speaker 4 (06:09):
Earlier this week, my dad watched my son for like
three hours, and during that time he decided to take
him to target and purchased him a tooy that we
don't allow our son to play with. I don't need
to get into the details, just know it ain't allowed.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
Every parent has those rules absolutely.

Speaker 4 (06:25):
And I got upset with my father because I said,
you should have consulted with us, like, hey, can I
buy him this before you actually did it, because I
had to be the bad guy and exchange it and
return it and get something else, and my son started
having a meltdown. So I thought this was something that
was common courtesy. But you disagree.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
I sided with your father, like I'm an uncle. It's
fun to buy things. I think he should be able to,
but he should stay within the guidelines of what I do.
Agree that he should stay within the guide life.

Speaker 4 (06:57):
Yes, yeah, so now my father learned it very valuable lesson,
even though he said I robbed him of some joy
of being a grandfather.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
We got to talk back.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
You can open up the free iHeartRadio app anytime you
want to talk to us. Just make sure you're listening
to ninety seven point one wash FM, and that red
microphone is where you can leave us a message.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
Take a listen to this.

Speaker 7 (07:14):
Hi Chilie, Hi kid, It's Gary DC. I think the
grandparents should be allowed to buy whatever they want for
the grandkids. I'm an uncle and if I can buy
something for my nieces and nephews, I would like to
do that. At the same time, I understand it's the parent.
It is the parents, I think so honestly, I buy it,

(07:36):
but the parents set the moderation.

Speaker 4 (07:38):
Okay, So if you're gonna buy it, before you let
the child see it, please ask the parent.

Speaker 5 (07:46):
Because once they've gotten the.

Speaker 4 (07:47):
Visual of it, it's it's game over now.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
Your dad and do not all hung out yesterday? Did
everything go Okay? It was just a slurpy purchase?

Speaker 3 (07:55):
Okay? Perfect?

Speaker 2 (07:57):
Chili's working on top story, chal Ut Datechi on that.
Coming up next, it's Toby and Chilly in the Morning
on ninety seven point one.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
Wash Ff.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
I'm excited we're talking football. Commander's preseason tickets could be
yours coming up with our nearly impossible question.

Speaker 4 (08:10):
So right around six twenty, if you get the question right,
we'll send you to go see the Commanders take on
the Bengals at Northwest Stadium August eighteenth.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
So be here right now.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
We're taking care of the music for your Thursday drive
in with Toby and Chilly in the morning on ninety
seven point one wash FM.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
Ninety seven point one WASHFM Washington, an iHeartRadio station, coming
up on Top Stories, Top of the Hour.

Speaker 4 (08:34):
Investigators have revealed new details about that deadly house fire
in Waldorf.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
Chili has Top Stories coming up. We also have the
music to start your Thursday. Humid high in the upper
eighties today ninety seven point one wash FM.

Speaker 6 (08:51):
Top Stories, Top of the Hour.

Speaker 4 (08:54):
National Guard troops are patrolling the streets of DC round
the clock now since the federal takeover of the police department.
Officials report over one hundred arrests, including one for homicide,
thirty three for firearms offenses, and the detention of thirty
three undocumented immigrants. Meanwhile, the President says he will not

(09:14):
be addressing territorial issues with Russian President Vladimir Putin at
their Alaska summit tomorrow, calling it a matter for Ukraine
and Russia to resolve. Trump said the talks are going
to focus on ending the war and warned of consequences
if Putin refuses. Investigators are searching for the cause of
that weekend house fire in Waldorf that killed two adults

(09:36):
and four children. They say a disconnected smoke alarm was
found in the basement, and they have not determined if
any others were working at the time. Nearly three hundred
local companies made this year's INK five thousand list of
the nation's most successful businesses. The highest ranking local firm

(09:57):
is Alexandria's Artemis Arc, while Bethesda Base just Iced Tea
debuted at number eighty eight. Taylor Swift announced her new album,
The Life of a Showgirl, is going to be released
October third. She revealed the cover art and also a
track list, which features Sabrina Carpenter. She shared all this
news during an episode of The New Heights podcast, which

(10:21):
was hosted by her boyfriend Travis Kelsey and his brother
Jason last night. And according to a recent survey, only
fifty four percent of US adults say they drink alcohol now,
which by the way, is the lowest percentage since nineteen
thirty nine. Health concerns are a big reason for that decline.
Forecast today partly cloudy and humid, highs in the upper eighties.

Speaker 5 (10:44):
Do have a chance of more storms this afternoon. Right now,
it's seventy three in Centreville.

Speaker 2 (10:50):
And I'm eight months into that na kick all right,
I'm Kiddoshey in for Towe coming up next. Have you
ever had a relaxing moment backfire on you? I'll tell
you what what went terribly wrong yesterday when I tried
to have a zen moment. I'll share that with you. Next,
Toby and Chilly in the Morning ninety's seven point one
wash FM. I'm Kiddoshe and for Toby this week. Have

(11:12):
you ever had a zen moment kind of backfire on you?
A moment of relaxation just kind of go terribly wrong.
I have an eleven year old, so yes, every day
to you all the time.

Speaker 3 (11:21):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (11:22):
Well, I've been filling in for Toby, so that means
I have to get up extra early to come in
and spend time with you, which is great, but then
I also go and do Good Morning Washington for ABC seven,
and so I've scheduled like kind of just about thirty
minutes a day to kind of reset, like a quick
little nap, and to maximize that, I'm using noise canceling
headphones that my partner Kyle bought for like flights, which

(11:44):
are really nice and they really do cancel everything out.

Speaker 3 (11:48):
And I'm using a sleep mask.

Speaker 4 (11:50):
Oh okay, it's very dark, very quiet. Yes, so it
takes perfect environment for.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
A nice yea.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
Yesterday, I get home, I'm tired. I put the headphones on,
I put them mask on.

Speaker 3 (12:00):
I searched for a Zen music playlist and I hit
play and hit the timer in.

Speaker 5 (12:05):
And this playlist is coming through the headphone.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
Coming through the headphones. Okay, And so there I lay down,
getting in position. I'm like, you got your you know,
enjoy your thirty minutes of Zen here in your little reset.
And then I just start having anxiety Chili why because
I was worried what if someone walks in and I
can't hear them, and.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
If somebody breaks into bar.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
I saw the entire Dateline episode play out where they're
like talking about how I had all these things on
it and I didn't know the intruder was in the house,
and so I just couldn't relax.

Speaker 5 (12:37):
So really it made it worse.

Speaker 3 (12:39):
It did the opposite.

Speaker 5 (12:41):
It completely rowed you up.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
Yeah, I was not relaxed. I did not get a
good nap in oh man.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
So anyway, I don't know how to master that, but
it did not work for me.

Speaker 5 (12:50):
One thing you could do is just lock the bedroom door.

Speaker 3 (12:53):
I'll try that next time.

Speaker 6 (12:54):
Shelby and Chili's nearly impossible question.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
What is today's question?

Speaker 4 (12:57):
Chili, Well, it looks like seven Tventy percent of people
say they do this with friends at least once a week.

Speaker 3 (13:04):
What is it?

Speaker 8 (13:05):
All right?

Speaker 2 (13:05):
We've got two tickets to see the Commanders versus the
Bengals preseason game at Northwest Stadium coming up on August eighteenth,
courtesy of Washington Area Honda Dealers Association. Eight six six
nine two seven, four three six one. What's that question again?

Speaker 4 (13:19):
Seventy percent of people say they do this with their
friends at least once a week.

Speaker 5 (13:25):
What is it?

Speaker 2 (13:26):
Eight six six nine two seven four three six one
will get the answer to the nearly impossible question. Plus,
we've lined up a bunch of music for your Thursday morning.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
Next.

Speaker 6 (13:35):
Toby and Chilly's nearly impossible question.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
Toby has the week off. I'm kiddoshe from Good Morning Washington.
We are playing for tickets to the Commanders versus the
Bengals preseason tickets coming up.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
What's today's question?

Speaker 4 (13:47):
Seventy percent of people say they do this with friends
at least once a week.

Speaker 3 (13:52):
Eight six six, nine two seven four, three six one.

Speaker 5 (13:56):
Good morning in Stevensville. How are you, Jessica doing great?

Speaker 3 (14:00):
How are you great?

Speaker 5 (14:02):
We would like to make you a little bit better though,
What do you think the answer is?

Speaker 8 (14:05):
I think it's a meet up in person some way, somehow.

Speaker 3 (14:08):
Oh wow.

Speaker 4 (14:10):
Do you get a chance to meet up with your
friends at least once a week?

Speaker 8 (14:15):
I would like to, but it's more like once a
month because we all have young kids. Right now.

Speaker 5 (14:19):
I knew there was going to be a parenting excuse there.
What about you kid?

Speaker 2 (14:22):
I mean, I try to but I'll tell you FaceTime
is much nicer sometimes, and oh, that's my meetup.

Speaker 9 (14:28):
You know what.

Speaker 4 (14:29):
Yes, technology does make it a little more tempting to
not meet in person, but yeah, seventy percent of people
say they do meet up with their friends at least
once a week. Congratulations, Jessica, You're so welcome.

Speaker 2 (14:42):
You got two tickets to see the Commanders versus the
Bengals preseason game at Northwest Stadium on August eighteenth, courtesy
of Washington Area Honda Dealers Association.

Speaker 8 (14:51):
Awesome, thank you so much.

Speaker 4 (14:53):
And maybe you can take a friend with you and
that could be your meetup.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
How about that?

Speaker 8 (14:57):
Perfect time? Counts for my once a week.

Speaker 3 (14:59):
There you go at the game.

Speaker 2 (15:01):

Speaker 4 (16:23):
President Trump is pleased with his crime crackdown in DC.
He said he is planning to ask Congress for an
extension of the federalization of the local police force after
the first thirty days. A task force is exploring ways
to expand legal help for DC residents who can't afford lawyers,
including training non lawyers to assist in civil cases. Their
proposal aims to reduce self representation in matters like paternity,

(16:47):
child support, and small estates. Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has
ordered a criminal investigation into the Fairfax County school System
following an online report that staff helped students get abortions
without parental approval. The school system has also launched its
own inquiry. Air India will soon end the DC area's

(17:07):
only non stop flight to Delhi. The airline plans to
suspend NonStop service between Dulles and Indira Gandhi International Airport
on September. First Air India said the shortage of aircraft
and also a recent military conflict with Pakistan led to
the decision. President Trump announced this year's Kennedy Center Honors yesterday.

(17:30):
The list of honorees includes Sylvester Stallone, George Strait, Gloria
Gaynor Kiss, and Michael Crawford. The President also confirmed that
he will be hosting the December ceremony. And according to
a recent survey, nearly nine and ten Americans fear AI
generated deep fakes targeting students and staff, while one in

(17:52):
five students admit to AI assisted cheating. Although eighty eighty
seven percent excuse me support teaching AI literacy, sixty seven
percent believe that educators are just not ready to use
AI effectively. For gas today partly cloudy, highs near ninety
with a chance of more storms today. Right now, seventy

(18:14):
two in Bethesda.

Speaker 2 (18:15):
All right, Toby has the week off. I'm kiddoshe from
Good Morning Washington. Coming up next. What is the most
you've spent on your PET at one time?

Speaker 3 (18:23):
Chile?

Speaker 2 (18:23):
I want to know, do you think I spent way
too much money on our five pounds hihuahua yesterday. I'll
share that with you. Next, it's Toby and Chilly in
the Morning on ninety seven point one Wash FM. I'm
kiddoshe from Good Morning Washington. How much have you spent
on your pets at one time?

Speaker 5 (18:40):
Okay, a lot, because pets are expensive.

Speaker 3 (18:42):
Well, I spent a lot on our five pound chihuahua, Biggie. Yesterday.

Speaker 2 (18:47):
I took him to get his haircut because he's he's
going to be on television on Friday on Good Morning Washington.

Speaker 5 (18:52):
I wanted him a get a nice little groom.

Speaker 3 (18:54):
I wanted to be really cute. Usually I cut his
hair at home.

Speaker 2 (18:56):
He's five pounds, okay, but I thought, we'll take you
for anther haircut.

Speaker 3 (19:01):
I get to the checkout counter after tip. It was
one hundred dollars for his haircut.

Speaker 5 (19:06):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (19:07):
For anybody who doesn't have a dog that needs grooming,
I'll speak on their behalf.

Speaker 3 (19:11):
Okay, that's not a lot. That's not a lot.

Speaker 4 (19:14):
No, because I have a hypoallergenic dog.

Speaker 5 (19:17):
You can't even say it.

Speaker 4 (19:18):
And the nine week maintenance of my labradoodle is unfortunately
way more than just one hundred dollars.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
If you missed the detail at the beginning of this conversation,
he's five pounds chilli.

Speaker 5 (19:32):
Okay, but it's.

Speaker 3 (19:33):
One hundred dollars.

Speaker 5 (19:36):
Okay, yours is a chihuahua. Fine, what do they do?
Just bathe him.

Speaker 2 (19:39):
He got a bath, he got his ears cleaned, his
teeth brushed, his nails clips okay, and a haircut okay.

Speaker 4 (19:47):
So you see it's more than just a bunch of
bubbles and conditioner. Of course, it's gonna cost more. Otherwise
you do it yourself all the time.

Speaker 3 (19:55):
So you're saying one hundred bucks isn't that bad?

Speaker 5 (19:57):
No, it's not.

Speaker 4 (19:58):
And you're also lucky this is just for a special occasion.
You're not having to do it every two months.

Speaker 2 (20:02):
And he does look really, really cute.

Speaker 3 (20:06):
All right.

Speaker 2 (20:07):
We want to know how much you spent on your
pet at one time. Does it top my one hundred
dollars I spent on Biggie yesterday?

Speaker 3 (20:13):
Eezy?

Speaker 2 (20:14):
Come on, folks, eight sixty six nine two seven four
three sixty one. That's our phone number. You can give
us a call. We'll get to some of your calls
coming up a little later. But our crazy first date
is coming up next, Yeah, Leslie and Herndon. She went
on a date with a guy who ended up having
to spend the night in jail.

Speaker 5 (20:30):
Oh yeah, we'll find out what happened in just a.

Speaker 6 (20:32):
Few It's Toby and Tilly's crazy first Day.

Speaker 9 (20:36):
Leslie and Herndon with a crazy first date for us.

Speaker 8 (20:40):
Well, I worked with two girls whose husbands knew this gentleman,
and they introduced me to him on a blind date.
He lived in Connecticut, we lived in New Jersey, so
he came down and we spent the evening, you know,
having dinner, going out for drinks and listening to music
and we had a great time. Came back to the
house and he was going to stay at this one

(21:00):
couple's house and I went home. However, he really didn't
want to stay overnight, so he ended up driving back
to Connecticut, and on his way back, he fell asleep
in his car and he hit a car parked on
the inside, like on the castlingk And he wasn't hurt,
but he got put in jail. Now, I did not

(21:21):
know any of this. On Monday, when I went back
to work, they all told me what it happened.

Speaker 5 (21:26):
Did you guys ever end up seeing each other again?

Speaker 8 (21:29):
Actually we did. He invited me to a dinner in
New York City at the Waldorf Astoria and we got
along great.

Speaker 9 (21:37):
Well, it's a good thing you didn't have to drive
to come get you.

Speaker 3 (21:39):
You could just use the subway.

Speaker 4 (21:40):
Were you guys together for a while after that? Or
did things sort of fizzle out over time?

Speaker 8 (21:44):
We stayed together. We did get married, and we've been
married forty six years.

Speaker 9 (21:49):
