was done.

Speaker 6 (00:48):
Ye.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
I was good for about three days of school before
I was like, I'm over this.

Speaker 3 (00:52):
Because then you realize, oh, you actually have to learn, Yeah,
exactly have to do so I gotta do work.

Speaker 4 (00:56):
I don't like that. What about you?

Speaker 3 (00:57):
Oh man, I geeked out over school. I've always loved school.

Speaker 4 (01:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
If I could get paid to be a full time student, oh,
I would never stop going to school. Really, that is
how much I love love school.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
Oh yeah, yeah, it's always the reverse. Now, what about
your son Donado, who's got orientation today? Is he more
excited for it or are you more excited for us?
He's team kid, Okay, okay, he's like me.

Speaker 4 (01:23):
He's just like you.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
The initial the honeymoon period will be over. The first
time he has any homework exactly.

Speaker 4 (01:30):
The good news is he'll turn out all right, and
he'll be just five.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
Yes, all right, Well, we're glad you're starting your Friday
with us, and we've got Top Stories coming up next.

to work more closely with federal immigration authorities. We've got
all the details on what that means in just a
few minutes.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
All right, Chili, thanks kiddoshe in for Toby. Coming up next,
it's our morning mindset and inspirational quote to get you
going on this Friday morning. That is the nineties throwback
I needed to start the day. Ninety seven point one
Wash FM with Toby and Chile in the morning. It's
kiddo'she time for our morning mindset.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
Okay, So because it's Friday, we kick off our best
of the eighties weekend at five o'clock today with Sabrina Kanti.
And this is a quote slash lyric from Eye of
the Tiger.

Speaker 4 (04:27):
For the Survivor your favorite song.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
It is a great song. It's the eye of the tiger.
It's the thrill of the fight, rising up to the
challenge of our rival. That's right, the eye of the tiger.
It symbolizes your focus, your courage, and the instinct to
persevere in the face of challenges, while the thrill of
the fight that conveys the excitement and intensity that comes

(04:51):
with confronting the obstacles or the rivals in front of you.
So keep that in mind as you take on the
rest of your day into the weekend. A survivor says,
it's the eye of the tiger. It's the thrill of
the fight, rising up to the challenge of our rival.
And you can find that quote on the Toby and
Chili page at washefm dot com.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
All right, Chili, thanks a lot. I may have been
singing those lyrics wrong my entire life until just now,
but I'm glad you brought that to my attention. Coming
up next here with Toby and Chilly in the morning,
I've come under fire after a comment I made yesterday
about the cost of grooming my five pound Chihuahua, Biggie.
We've got a talk back from our listener Dave, who
wants to chime in about something.

Speaker 4 (05:30):
We'll share that with you coming up next.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
It is Friday, and we are so glad you're starting
your day with us here Toby and Chile. On ninety
seven point one WASHEFM. I'm kido'she from Good Morning Washington.
Yesterday we were talking about the most you spent on
your pet at one time. This was after I took
our five and a half pound Shihuahua Biggie to the
groomer and spent one hundred dollars, which I thought was
a lot since my own haircuts don't even cost that much. Yes,

(05:54):
but this morning, Chili, I am being called out.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
Yeah, because we know for a fact as past parents,
that one hundred bucks, although it is not cheap, is
really not a whole lot when it comes to how
expensive pets can be. So what was the talkback message?

Speaker 2 (06:11):
So Dave left us a talkback message that pretty much said, kid,
one hundred bucks is nothing.

Speaker 4 (06:16):
Take a listen, hey, Chilli.

Speaker 6 (06:18):
Last year we rescued a kitten in our backyard and
he had a severely broken back leg that costs five
thousand dollars to amputate, and then a few months later
he needed major chess surgery, which cost another four thousand dollars.
So tell kids stop whining about his easy one hundred dollars.

Speaker 4 (06:36):
Seriously. Come on.

Speaker 6 (06:38):
Oh, by the way, tripod kitty is doing very well.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
Oh thank you. I'm so glad Dave that you included
that the kitty is doing well. But I did some math.
Five thousand and four thousand equals nine thousand dollars.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
So that is a lot of money and I've got
nothing to complain about it.

Speaker 6 (06:52):
Or, as Dave said, so tell kids stop whining about
his easily one hundred dollars.

Speaker 4 (06:57):
Dave, thanks for leaving that message.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
Anytime you want to chat with the just open up
the free iHeartRadio app, make sure you're listening to ninety

just like Dave did, and leave us a message. Toby

a preseason game next week, and you could be at
that game for free. Coming up at six twenty this morning.

Speaker 3 (07:17):

you'll get a pair of tickets to see the Commanders

Speaker 3 (08:01):
President Trump is staying vague ahead of his meeting with
Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska today, amid speculation about
possible Russia Ukraine landswaps or US offers of rare earth
mineral access in exchange for peace efforts. When he was
asked for details, the President replied, we'll see what happens.

(08:22):
Attorney General Pam Bondi has appointed DEA Administrator Terry Cole
as DC's emergency police Commissioner, granting him full authority over
the district's police force. Meanwhile, d c's police chief has
intensified cooperation between her officers and federal immigration officials. Her

Speaker 2 (09:57):
Toby has the morning off. I'm kiddo'she coming up. Weddings
can be really expensive. Wait until you hear what they're
doing in Europe to offset the costs. Is this bad
form and does it break all wedding etiquette rules? We
will share the story with you and discuss next. Telby
and Chilly in the morning ninety's seven point one Wash FM.

(10:17):
I'm kid o'she from Good Morning Washington. There's gonna be
a lot of weddings taking place this weekend. What would
you do if you had to pay admission to get
into a wedding?

Speaker 3 (10:25):
I guess this is a growing trend among couples where
they're selling tickets to their big event. We all know
that weddings are very expensive, and to offset costs, they
can charge anywhere from one hundred and seventy five to
four hundred and fifty dollars a person to attend their wedding.

Speaker 4 (10:40):
What do you think of this? Chili?

Speaker 3 (10:41):
If you couldn't tell from the tone of my voice,
I am not a fan. I don't think weddings are
about gifts. I don't think they should be about making
a profit. This is an important day. It's a milestone
moment in your life, and you're sharing it with loved
ones and those close to you, and and I would say,
just keep it small and do what you can afford.

(11:05):
That's my opinion. I think it's cheesy, and I think
it's a bit tacky, quite honestly, to charge somebody for tickets.
You don't let my opinion dissuade you, but go ahead.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
I agree with you about keeping it small, but I
am not against paying fifty dollars for a ticket that
includes my meal. I know what I'm getting because usually
when I buy a gift, I buy it based on Okay,
I'm getting a free dinner. It's kind of a trade like,
here's your gift. I'm getting a nice dinner out of it,
and that's that. So here's the upfront cost. I'll pay

(11:37):
you a hundred bucks for the ticket, but I'm not
buying you a gift. Oh you're not getting a gift
as well.

Speaker 3 (11:42):
Okay, gotch Shelby.

Speaker 5 (11:43):
And Chili's nearly impossible question.

Speaker 4 (11:46):
What is today's question?

Speaker 3 (11:48):
The average woman tries to do this seven times over
her lifetime and fails six of them. What is it?

Speaker 2 (11:55):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (11:55):
Okay?

Speaker 3 (12:49):
Good morning? In Manassa's Deanna, how are you? I'm great,
how are you? Good morning? We're doing really well. You've
got the question what do you think we're talking about dieting?
You think that women only six sayed they have to
fail at dieting six times to finally lose the weight.

Speaker 4 (13:09):
Absolutely, because I'm one of.

Speaker 3 (13:12):

can relate to that, Deanna, and that is the correct answer. Congratulations.

President Trump is keeping quiet about potential agreements ahead of
his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Alaska. Today,
there's speculation that's there's going to be a possible Russia
Ukraine landswap and also a US rare earth mineral deal
aimed at securing peace. DC Police Chief Pamela Smith has

(15:29):
ordered her department to increase cooperation with federal immigration authorities,
allowing officers to share information on non custodial individuals, such
as during traffic stops, and even provide transportation for ICE
agents and detainees. Fairfax County officials are pleased with the
result of the latest road Shark traffic enforcement campaign that

(15:49):
was conducted with the Virginia State Police between August third
and tenth. Officers say they issued over twelve seven hundred
tickets and warnings, and then Wave five of the program
will begin October thirteenth. The Louden County Sheriff's Office launching
an educational campaign to promote e bike and scooter safety,

(16:10):
distributing pamphlets with road rules and safety tips at popular
youth spots. And this effort follows a seventy percent rise
in pedestrian and cycling crashes since May. Air Canada is
grounding flights as flight attendants could strike this weekend. The
airline's going to scale up the cancelations every day and
they will reach it or they will result in a

(16:32):
total shutdown by tomorrow. And according to a recent survey,
sixty percent have gone into debt just to raise their kids,
with nearly half of parents calling their debt unmanageable. Single parents,
of course, are especially hard hit, and the most common
debts will include credit cards, medical bills, and personal loans.

(16:54):
Forecast today partly clotty, hot and humid, highs around ninety
and we do have a chance of some storms this afternoon.
Right now, it's seventy one in Ashbourne.

Speaker 2 (17:01):
All right, Thanks Chili, I'm kiddo. O'she from Good Morning
Washington and for Toby. This week on Fridays, we like
to share a feel good story with you to help
start your day. Next, we'll share a story with you
about how some local educators are making learning for adults
more fun. Wait until you hear about the unique locations
these classes are taking place. There's a great eighties throwback

(17:23):
you'll get only on ninety seven point one Wash FM,
and we've got more of those all weekend long on
our Best of the Eighties weekend, starting today at five
o'clock with Sabrina Kanti.

Speaker 4 (17:32):
It's Toby and Chilly in the morning.

Speaker 3 (17:33):
I'm kiddoshe okay, So this is our feel good Friday's story.
I want you to think about this. In the heart
of DC, there is this unique movement that is quietly
transforming the way we all think about learning. Imagine a
cozy cafe or a bar where instead of there's this
usual chatter, there's a professor that's standing in front of

(17:53):
the crowd and talking about topics anywhere from the mysteries
of the black hole to the enchanting tape of folklore.
It's called Profts and Pints.

Speaker 2 (18:03):
So I get to drink during class, Yes, okay, I'm
in keep going.

Speaker 3 (18:07):
This whole thing is grassroots initiative that was founded by
a man named Peter Schmidt who was a former education reporter,
and he envisioned a space where knowledge will flow as
freely as the drinks do. Okay, And it was born
out of Peter's desire to make learning accessible and engaging
for grownups. So Profts and Pints has now blossomed into

(18:29):
this amazing community event. With nearly one thousand talks under
its belt. The program is expanding beyond DC it's now
going into cities like Richmond, Baltimore, and even Nashville, and
they've sold over eighty five thousand tickets along the way.
It's such a simple concept, right, bringing experts into local
venues on slower nights so it helps out the venue

(18:52):
make money, and then you pay fifteen bucks to attend
and you learn something as you're drinking and meeting people.
There's no homework, no grades. I know you love that.

Speaker 6 (19:02):
I like this.

Speaker 3 (19:03):
There's simply the joy of learning in a relaxed setting.
So because I just thought this was such a cool idea,
I wanted to share it with you on this feel
good Friday, Profs and pines. It's a testament to the
idea that learning doesn't have to be confined to the classroom.

Speaker 2 (19:22):
And I like that because that I'm one of those people.
So it's never too late. Maybe there's still hope for me.
You want to read more about this, you can. It's
on the Tobya Chili page at washfm dot com. Chili,
thank you for sharing that story with us. All right,
Coming up next, is there an opportunity in life you
regret saying no too? Chili is getting ahead of regret.
She will share with us something that she just couldn't

(19:43):
say no to and why. Coming up next Friday morning
in DC ninety seven point one wash FM, it's Toby
and Chili in the morning.

Speaker 4 (19:52):
I'm kiddo'she.

Speaker 2 (19:53):
We're talking about opportunities in life we regret. Maybe saying
no to Chili is trying to get ahead of this.
I I do not want this to be a regret.
So a couple of weeks ago, I got an invitation
from the Library of Congress to moderate a session at
the upcoming National Book Festival. And I'm laughing because this

(20:14):
is my super Bowl, Like, this is like what me moderating.

Speaker 3 (20:20):
A session with authors? Oh my god. I was geeking
out internally. And I was freaking out internally because this,
to me is such a sacred world. Like I love books.
I was an English major because I love reading. I
wanted to say no because I was nervous.

Speaker 4 (20:38):
Yes, so why would you have said no?

Speaker 3 (20:41):
I did not want to make a fool out of
myself to go up there and not be prepared. These
are authors. I admire authors more than I admire most celebrities.

Speaker 5 (20:50):
Like this, I.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
Didn't want to screw up.

Speaker 2 (20:55):
But then, which is a lot of reasons why we
say no to things because we're afraid to do it.

Speaker 3 (21:00):
The voice in my head said, Chili, get a hold
of yourself. This is going to be an opportunity you
will regret if you do not say yes. So I
did say yes, and I'm currently reading the books and
taking notes and this is happening on September sixth, though
I am getting ready for my big moment. But my god,
my heart is racing. I'm so excited.

Speaker 4 (21:21):
Well that is awesome.

Speaker 2 (21:22):
So I think that's great that you got to that
point where you said, I'm not going to pass this
one out. But God is thinking, are there opportunities in
life that you wish you would not have said no too?
So eight six six nine two seven four three six one,
I know I have one and it's a big one.

Speaker 4 (21:39):
It's a really big one. I should not have passed
this up.

Speaker 2 (21:41):
I will share that with you, plus your stories coming
up in just a little bit. But next it's Toby
and Chili's Top Stories on ninety seven point one wash FM.
We want you to be on our team as we
all come together for a great cause. It's Toby and

slightly faster speeds, smoother rides, and modern amenities like five
g WI FI. An escape dog briefly shut down a
runway at Dulles Airport earlier this week after getting out
of its crate on Althunza flight. Air Traffic controllers temporarily

(23:56):
diverted planes, but officials say that the incident had minimal
impact and the dog was eventually caught and returned to
the plane. Okay, forget words of affirmation or physical touch.
A new survey finds that fifty four percent of Americans
say cleaning is their love language, and eighty five percent

(24:16):
consider cleaning up for somebody else an act of love,
and nearly two in three admit that they've been turned
off by someone's very messy home. Forecast for today partly cloudy,
hot and humid, highs around ninety. We do have a
chance of some storms right now seventy two in Springfield.

Speaker 2 (24:34):
