Crash Out with Toby + Chilli—today’s episode was basically a mood board of chaos and coffee:
  • Morning Mindset: Coco Chanel says be different… because blending in is so 2024.
  • NIQ: Turns out money really is dirty—Bank Tellers snag silver in the Germ Olympics (teachers/daycare pros take gold).
  • Winner Alert: Luke from Indian Head grabbed Lumineers tickets… hope he brings sanitizer.
  • Topics? We had ‘em: Road rage but make it emojis (somewhere a Gen Z’er is proud), Toby’s inner recluse emerging, and your life 180s—one listener literally fell for her date. Like, face-plant fell.
Your turn: What’s the biggest 180 you’ve done? (Or just tell us your weirdest “crash out” moment. We’ll judge… lovingly.) #TobyAndChilli #CrashOut #MorningMindset #Lumineers #Maroon5 #MorningRadio #GermiestJobs #RoadRageEmojis #Life180s #CoffeeAndChaos

Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome to Toby and Chilly in the morning.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
It's ninety seven point one wash youtm on this Tuesday,
the twenty sixth of August.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
Why are you feeling good?

Speaker 2 (00:12):
There's always a reason to feel good as we start
a brand new day. There's always something good happening in
life that you have to like, you know, just let's
speak to you and let move you.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
So what is that for you?

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Eight six six, nineteen seven forty three sixty one is
the number? Talkbacks, wide open two chili. Why are you
feeling good today?

Speaker 3 (00:32):
Yesterday's weather is my favorite perfect weather.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
It was a perfect day yesterday.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
It was like taking that extra long walk with the dog.
You know, you don't need any additional layers, there's no humidity.

Speaker 4 (00:48):
It was just stunning.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
And I love that we're getting this in August, which
is rare for the DMV.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
They say that we're supposed to have a pretty decent
week all week when it comes to the weather, which
is exciting to me because well, good weather is good
weather and it's not rain. And like, while I love
a good rainstorm and I love a good thunderstorm, sometimes
all of that rain makes me like super sleepy, too
sleepy right. But anyway, I'm feeling good this morning because

(01:21):
at four point fifteen I made it the call to
wake up my significant.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
Other, and I did not know that I would remember
to do it. Oh, little winds. Little winds.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
She has like a big busy day at work, and
she's like, hey, can you do me a favor?

Speaker 1 (01:38):
You're gonna be up.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Did you put a reminder in your phone, some sort
of an alarm to go off to remind you or you?

Speaker 2 (01:44):
No, I just remembered you. If I look down at
the I looked it now. I was in front of
a computer screen. I looked down at the clock on it,
and I'm like, four point fifteen, I need to make
that phone call.

Speaker 4 (01:55):
Good. I'm actually more no offense.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
I'm more impressed with her trusting you to do that
and not forget than I am with you.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
Actually, I thought you would say something like, you know,
I'm very impressed you're making baby steps becoming more of
an adult to.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
But still that was a little bold, risky move on
her part and it paid off.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
See, I am capable of taking care of little things
when it comes to the business of life.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
Why are you feeling good this morning? Give us a call.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
You know where we are and tell us so we
can celebrate the joy that you have in your life.
In the meantime, hang out because we've got the news
told Chilly Stops. Stories coming up in a few minutes.

Coco Chanel says, in order to be irreplaceable, one must
always be different. In order to be irreplaceable, one must
always be different. Today, Remember that innovation comes from originality
and not from elimination from imitation. So remember that innovation

is born from originality today, not imitation. And do your
own thing so that you can become irreplaceable by being different.

this morning?

Speaker 6 (07:00):
I just recently lost some weight. I lost like ten
pounds in the past month and it's.

Speaker 5 (07:06):
Been a huge difference.

Speaker 6 (07:07):
I've been trying for so long and lose weight with
no results, and finally all the hard work is starting
to pay off.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
Congratulations on that, Ray, I mean, you just have to
trust the process. Sometimes the results don't come as fast
as we want.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
Ten pounds. That is a great start and a great accomplishment.
Thanks for reaching out this morning. Now over to Oxen Hill.
Good morning, Dave. Why are you feeling good this morning?

Speaker 7 (07:31):
My girlfriend and I just celebrated our one year anniversary
and we celebrated by taking a trip to Denver, which
is an incredible city at this time of the year,
all times a year. And yeah, I'm just very happy
about that.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
In them in love Ah, Well, happy anniversary. I'm surprised
you didn't pop the question.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
I have no comment. I'm just happy you and yours

sixty six ninety seven forty three sixty one.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
Good morning, Lauren.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
Thank you for listening in Fairfax. So why are you

Speaker 8 (08:03):
I am happy about getting a new puppy.

Speaker 4 (08:06):

Top stories at the top of the hour on the way,
stay right there.

Speaker 5 (08:39):
Top stories Top of the hour.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
President Trump has signed executive orders targeting both DC and
other jurisdictions that eliminate cash list bail by threatening to
withhold federal funding and shift suspects into federal custody now.
He also directed the Justice Department to prosecute flag burning
despite it being constitutionally protected expression. Meanwhile, the president is

(09:02):
seeking two billion dollars from Congress for a major DC
beautification project, aiming to refresh public spaces, repave roads, and
upgrade street lights around the White House and Capital. A
federal judge has temporarily halted Kilmar Abrago Garcia's deportation to Uganda,

(09:23):
blocking Ice from removing him before August twenty eighth. The
judge signaled she may actually extend this day until she
rules on his legal challenge. DC's US attorney says she
wants authority to prosecute offenders as young as twelve, arguing
that age should not exempt suspects from accountability. She criticized

(09:45):
current laws as quote outrageous and anti victim, but acknowledged
that local leaders are unlikely to support such changes. The
Washington Commanders have signed receiver Terry McLaurin to a three year,
ninety six million dollar extension that will include a third
eight million dollars signing bonus. So the deal insures that
McLaurin will suit up for the Commander's season opener against

(10:08):
the Giants, and according to a recent survey, nine and
ten parents say that resetting bedtime after summer break is
the toughest routine, followed closely by homework and also getting
to school on time. Late nights, extra screen time, and
disrupted family schedules are the main culprits. Forecast today, sunny

(10:28):
high's around seventy eight right now, fifty eight in Leesburg.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
And that is the news. Toby and Chilly stops stories.
Ninety seven point one. Wash FM is on road rage.
Everybody's had to deal with it, maybe some more so
than others. Well, there's a company that's created a fun
way to deal with road rage. We'll tell you all
about it coming up. Don't go too.

Speaker 5 (10:54):
Far traffic with two.

Speaker 1 (10:58):
If we're really honest with each other.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
Ninety seven point one, watch at them Toby and Chilly
in the morning. We've all experienced the moments of road rage. Well,
for those of you who rage on the road because
other people just don't know how to drive. There's a
Chinese car company you need.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
To know about.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
It's called xpang, and they've created what they say is
a fun way to deal with road rage, Toby. They've
got a feature called road Rage Reliever, which lets drivers
throw emojis at other cars using this augmented reality on
the windshield.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
You hit a button and you're throwing the Pooh emoji
at the driver who cuts you off.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
Or you might be throwing an angry face emoji just
by pushing a button on your steering wheel. Now the
emojis appear on the car in front of you, but
it has nothing to do with them seeing it, Like
they will never see it, right, This is just you
getting your kicks by throwing it a oji, almost like

(12:00):
you're playing a video game at the car that you're
mad at. I don't know, would that really help relieve
your anger, though, Toby. If you were to throw an
emoji at somebody.

Speaker 2 (12:09):
That's a good question, Chili. You know it would distract
me and that would take me out of the anger
of the moment, and then I would be at peace again,
and I would laugh too, because I just threw a
Pooh emoji at your car. Nothing takes your mind off
of things like throwing a good Pooh emoji at people,
especially drivers that forget how to drive.

Speaker 3 (12:30):
It may work the first time, but if that person
keeps cutting me off in traffic, no amount of emoji's
is gonna simmer me.

Speaker 1 (12:37):
Down, Not even the Pooh emoji.

Speaker 9 (12:39):
No.

Speaker 5 (12:39):
Toby and Chilli's nearly impossible question.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
What is the question today? Please?

Speaker 3 (12:45):
A study says, the jermist job is a teacher or
daycare worker, but what's the second journeist?

Speaker 2 (12:52):
If you want to play, the number is eight sixty
six nine two seven forty three sixty one. That is
a very good question, especially if you know a lot
about germs. Tickets for the lumineers up for grabs if
you want them. Here's the question again.

Speaker 3 (13:08):
A study says, the germist job is a teacher or
daycare worker, but what's the second jermyist?

Speaker 2 (13:14):
Eight six six nine two seven forty three sixty one?

Speaker 1 (13:17):
Think about it?

Speaker 2 (13:19):
Okay, now call eight sixty six nine seven forty three
sixty one. Get it right. The tickets are yours?

Speaker 5 (13:26):
What good Toby and Chilli's nearly impossible question.

Speaker 3 (13:39):
A study says, the germist job is a teacher or
daycare worker.

Speaker 4 (13:44):
But what is the second jermyist from.

Speaker 2 (13:47):
Southern Maryland the Indian head Luke, good morning, good morning,
good morning, good morning, good morning. You've got the question.
What is your guess for these tickets?

Speaker 1 (13:57):
I Am going to get a bank teller banks?

Speaker 3 (14:00):
Now, why do you think that would be a very
jermy gig.

Speaker 5 (14:03):
Twenty of dollars that I'd rather not know where they
came from.

Speaker 1 (14:06):
Yeah, you know what.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
I'm glad you said that and not me, because you
never know what those dollars might have been doing prior
to them coming to the bank.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 3 (14:17):
Exactly those jermy hands, Yes, exactly. It's not the type
of money laundering we should be doing. But I can
see why not at all. Bank teller is the correct answer. Yes, Luke,
you win.

Speaker 2 (14:32):
Congratulations, Thank you, and the tickets are yours to go
and see.

Speaker 3 (14:40):
The Lumineers at Nationals Park September sixth.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
Enjoy the show Luke from ninety seven point one Wash FM.
More tickets tomorrow to see the Lumineers at NAT's Park.
If you want to go. Make sure you listen so
you can win. Toby and Chilly in the morning. Top
stories at the top of the hour. Oh that's the news.
It's on the way in minutes. Stay close.

Speaker 5 (15:05):
Top stories, Top of the Housident.

Speaker 3 (15:08):
Trump has ordered a series of measures to increase federal
oversight in DC, including hiring more US Park Police, adding prosecutors,
and also creating a portal for law enforcement job applicants now.
The directive has also called for new housing and transit
safety inspections, along with a Justice Department review of DC
police policies. Amid the city's crime emergency, A man was

(15:32):
arrested by US Park Police for burning an American flag
near the White House in Lafayette Square. The combat veteran
said he was protesting at trump executive order, and then
he was charged under a law banning fires in public parks.
All this following the president's new crackdown on flag burning.

(15:52):
A federal judge has temporarily blocked the deportation of Kilmar
Abrego Garcia to Uganda, giving his lawyer's time to challenge
the President's efforts to remove him a second time. The
order halts deportation until at least August twenty eighth, Metro
has launched a pop up store called Metro U, which

(16:13):
is selling back to school gear like shirts, jackets, hats,
and backpacks with the Metro logo. Students showing a school
ID can get fifteen percent off and the shop near
l Enfont Plaza will stay open through September twelve. And finally,
a new study finds that climate change like climate change

(16:33):
driven heat waves rather could speed up biological aging, with
just two years of exposure aging people by up to
two weeks, and outdoor workers are aging more than a month.
Researchers say older adults and those without air conditioning are
especially vulnerable. Forecast for today sunny sky seventy eight, the
high right now fifty eight in Beltsville.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
And that is the news.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
Toby a chili in the morning, Top stories at the
top of the hour, and next, what total one hundred
and eighty degree turn has your life taken? In fact,
somebody on the show is feeling a bit reclusive. Stay there,
we'll get into it, but we want to hear from
you about that one hundred and eighty degree turn that

(17:19):
your life is taken. The numbers eight sixty six, nine,
two seven, forty three sixty one. You can also hit
us up on talkback right if you're signed into your
iHeart app, tap speak send you know that little button
right there. If you're signed in, you can send us
a voice note. We can't wait to hear from you,
and we'll get to this coming up in minutes. Toby

(17:41):
and Chilly in the morning on ninety seven point one
Wash FM, Chilli. Have I become a recluse? Have you
noticed that I've become more of a homebody that I'm
just like staying in more than going out and whatnot.

Speaker 3 (17:56):
Yes, you have definitely made a one eighty turn. You're
a life since I've known you in more ways than one,
not just that you're a homebody. That's kind of impressive,
quite honestly, What.

Speaker 2 (18:07):
Do you mean by making a one eighty because that
to me, that's like you've completely changed everything.

Speaker 3 (18:14):
Yeah, I mean you've noticed that you're not as social,
but I can tell you you stop drinking, and that
was immediate, that was cold turkey.

Speaker 4 (18:24):
You stop traveling as much.

Speaker 3 (18:25):
Gosh, when we first met, I mean you were going
places all the time. And also, yeah, you're not going
out every weekend and socializing and I think alive. It
has to do with changes you had to make.

Speaker 10 (18:39):
Well.

Speaker 2 (18:39):
I will say that I haven't traveled as much because
I feel like I need to heal, right, you know,
like here we are, summer's almost done. I used to
love hanging by the pool, but right now, because of
some kind of cellulatest thing I have going on with
my skin, it's not good for an open woone to
be in the water well, and so you know, I

(19:00):
I've had to prioritize my health, and that means I
haven't been able to get on the road. That also,
I think is one of the reasons why I just
choose to sometimes stay in like you know, it's it's
nothing personal against my friends. I've just decided I need
to chill out.

Speaker 3 (19:15):
And I think that's great. I think that you need
to right now. Your body is screaming that it needs
to heal, it needs to rest, and for the first
time in your life, you're listening to it. But not
everybody does. And you are, and you are and this
is not permanent, by the way you could want eighty backed.

Speaker 2 (19:31):
Yeah, once I get back to good, buckle up, people.

Speaker 4 (19:34):
That's right, You're gonna come back with a vengeance.

Speaker 1 (19:37):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
In the meantime, have you ever known anybody who's made
a one eighty in life? Maybe that was you. What
did you change? What did your friend change? Eight sixty six,
nineteen seven, forty three sixty one. Maybe your story will
inspire somebody that's going through something just like you. We'd
love to hear that story, and we will coming up
as Toby and Chilly in the Morning continues next one

(20:00):
of your crazy first date stories.

Speaker 3 (20:02):
Jamie and Wheaton literally fell head over heels for her date.

Speaker 2 (20:07):
I didn't see her at the hospital when I was there,
so I'm assuming she was okay.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
We'll find out next what happened.

Speaker 5 (20:17):
It's Toby and Chilli's crazy first date.

Speaker 1 (20:20):
Jamie, good morning. You have a crazy first date story
for us.

Speaker 11 (20:25):
Fire Away worked with a man just gorgeous, distinguished. How
to crush on him from the day he started. Finally
got a lunch date, great conversation, Sparks are flying. On
the way back to work, he says he has to
stop by his house to pick up some files. We
get there, he invites me an he shows me around.

(20:45):
He does indeed pick up files. So we get ready
to leave. He's locking the door and I start down
the stairs. There's about fifteen concrete stairs from his door
down to the sidewalk up the street. And so I
take the first couple.

Speaker 1 (20:58):
Steps and stumble.

Speaker 11 (20:59):
Of course I have heels and you know, everything dressed
for work. Catch my balance and he rushes over and
he's like, oh my god, are you okay? And we
both kind of chuckle. We're like, yeah, that, you know,
Christ is averted. That would have been crazy. So I
take the next step and fall down the rest of
the thirteen stairs.

Speaker 1 (21:16):
Oh wo lord, And of.

Speaker 11 (21:18):
Course he rushes down, Oh my god, it's something broken.
We need to go call an ambulance. And I'm just laughing, hysteric.

Speaker 1 (21:25):
Ruined all because you're a hot mess.

Speaker 11 (21:28):
Exactly exactly do.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
You think you'll avoid falling down the stairs, you know,
ruining your first date chances with the guy next time?

Speaker 11 (21:39):
Yeah, I'm definitely in flats. I'm a flat down now,
no more heels and stairs.

Speaker 2 (21:43):
Got a story like Jamie's, well, we would love to
hear it right now. At eight sixty six ninety seven
forty three sixty one.

Speaker 3 (21:51):
It could mean tickets to go see Maroon five at
cfg Bank Arena in November. Thanks to our friends at
Live Nation.

and hang out for the news top stories at the
