Joshua Marine says challenges are what make life interesting, and
overcoming them is what makes life meaningful. You know, when
we face obstacles and find a way past them, it
really gives us a sense of purpose and pride. So
instead of seeing challenges only as roadblocks, the perspective that
he gives us suggests that they're the very things that

(04:30):
make life feel worthwhile. So keep that in mind as
you overcome some obstacles Again. The morning mindset quote Joshua
Marine says challenges are what make life interesting, and overcoming
them is what makes life meaningful. You can find that
quote or share your own on the Toby and Chili
page at washefm dot com.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Well I like vinegar things, but no, I met.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
Apple cider donuts. You're right, and I got some when
we went to the Fall Festival over the weekend. The
smell of that in the air is so fall. Did
you do anything cmon sugar?

Speaker 4 (05:48):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (05:49):
Yeah. I actually picked up some pumpkin vanilla soap this
weekend when I was shopping and put for the bathroom.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
Did you just misspeak to did you say pumpkin vanilla?

Speaker 2 (05:58):
So yeah, it's clear pumpin foot ill flavored soap, and
it's like smells like pumpkin spice and everything pumpkin. And
then last night when I ran to the grocery store,
I grabbed some pumpkin cereal. So now I've got a
little bit of everything. Okay, I haven't tried it yet.
I'll let you know, tom Killing.

When I think fall, I think warm, cozy sweaters, the softer,
the better. I love this time of year.

Speaker 4 (06:30):
That is nice.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
I love that. I almost brought the sweaters out last week,
but it was still a little too warm for that. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
No. And also hoodies. Can we have hoodies?

Speaker 4 (06:37):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (06:39):
Fall wardrobe all all together, Steph, thank you for Colleen.

Speaker 7 (06:42):
Thanks guys, have a great day.

You do the same, Thanks so much, Steph. Okay, Bill
in Frederick, go ahead, what are you adding to this list?

Speaker 2 (06:50):
All right?

Speaker 6 (06:50):
So when I think of faugh, I think of kettle corn,
and yeah, I know I can get it any time
of year, but I think I tend to get it
at those fuff festivals, you know, hay rides or porn
mazes and stuff like that, and so I just make
that association.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
I do the same thing, Bill. We actually bought a
big bag of freshly pop kettle quirs. Yeah, it's so good.
The smell is what sells it all absolutely. Thanks so
much for sharing that.

Speaker 3 (08:05):
Adam Memorial in Glendale, Arizona, yesterday, President Trump paid tribute
to Charlie Kirk, calling him a great American hero and
a martyr. His widow, Erica, said she forgives the man
accused of killing him and that she finds comfort knowing
that he left his life without any regrets. Meanwhile, President
Trump says a major announcement on autism is coming today

(08:27):
at the White House. That announcement is expected to link
autism and children to the use of tailand all or
received a minifit during pregnancy. Police have launched a homicide
investigation after a man was found dead in a Montgomery
County apartment. Officers responded to the fifty nine hundred block
of Montrose Road around seven forty five yesterday morning, where

(08:47):
the man was pronounced dead at the scene. A suspect
is facing charges after allegedly driving through a homeless camp
in Prince George's County on Saturday afternoon. Beliss the driver
attempted to hit several people near McDonald's in the Adelphi area,
leaving one person hospitalized with minor injuries.

Speaker 8 (09:06):
Well.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
The Washington commander is facing another setback after a forty
one to twenty four win over the Las Vegas Raiders.
Starting safety Will Harris reportedly suffered a broken leg during
the game. Now, the two in one commanders are set
to face the Falcons on Sunday, and experts warn that
excessive paw licking and dogs may signal discomfort rather than boredom,

(09:29):
especially during autumn and winter. Cold damp conditions can apparently
irritate and soften pawpads, so the vets advise rinsing your
dogs pause after walks. Forecast for today will have partly
cloudy skies. Hi's near eighty right now sixty one in only.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
All right, I'm kiddoshe in for Toby. Have your good
intentions ever been questioned by your partner? I was questioned
about something chili, something I'm doing for our household to
I believe make our household better.

Speaker 3 (09:59):
Oh goodness, I'll.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
Share that with you and you can be the judge.
Coming out next here on ninety seven point one wash FM.
Great Eighties Throwbag from Whitney Houston ninety seven point one
wash FM with Toby and Chilly in the morning. I'm
kiddo'she has your partner ever questioned something you're doing for
your household?

Speaker 4 (10:14):
And did it kind of annoy you?

Speaker 3 (10:16):
Okay? What is your partner? Kyle questioning?

Speaker 2 (10:18):
Well, our dog Biggie, our five and a half pound shiuahua,
had a little stomach issue. We had to take him
to the vet and then we had to put him
on a bland diet for two weeks, and so we
were making chicken rice and you know, pretty much had
him on that for a while. After that, I was like, well,
I kind of like making the food for him. I'm
going to continue doing this. So I added sweet potatoes,
some black beans, and I looked at what's safe for

(10:38):
dogs to eat.

Speaker 4 (10:39):
And all of that, and I'm like, this is really nice.
He seems to really enjoy well.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
Of course it's human vio a dog love that.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
Yeah. So then I'm making breakfast the other day and
Kyle says, so, are we gonna put him back on
his kibble soon? And I said, excuse me, have you
seen what I've been doing in this kitchen.

Speaker 3 (11:00):
Eating the gourmet meals They.

Speaker 2 (11:02):
Prepared meals for our our thirteen year old chihuahua.

Speaker 4 (11:07):
So I kind of was taken back by that in
a little annoyed.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
Well, I think your partner has a point here.

Speaker 4 (11:11):
What's that chili?

Speaker 2 (11:12):
Are you taking his side?

Speaker 3 (11:14):
Because I too have been through this before. Two things, One,
dogs don't get all the nutrition that they need just
from what you're preparing them. There are certain vitamins that
they still need. And two, at some point you're going
to want to go back to kibble. And it's going
to be harder the longer you wait, because the dog's

(11:34):
gonna be like, Oh, hold on a second, where's my chicken,
rice beans and sleep potato? Dad?

Speaker 2 (11:41):
So you're telling me I probably need to stop making
food for him.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
I think you're going to have to start looking into
other things.

Speaker 5 (11:47):
Kelby and Chili's Nearly Impossible Question.

Speaker 4 (11:50):
I was getting ready to open up a doggy cafe?
All right? What is today's question?

Speaker 3 (11:54):
The first one of these took thirty two years to
appear in a book after it was invented. What is it?
And I will tell you it's usually in a newspaper.
People like to do it in the morning.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
Okay, I feel like that helps a lot.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
Okay, good.

I'm great?

Speaker 5 (13:08):
How are you?

Speaker 3 (13:08):
We're doing it? Well, You've got the question. What do
you think we're talking about?

Speaker 4 (13:12):
A crossword puzzle?

Speaker 3 (13:15):
Are you one of those people that likes to do
it every day just for a little brain exercise? I
actually do do one on an app I try to
every day.

Speaker 4 (13:25):
And do you get it right?

Speaker 2 (13:27):
Well?

Speaker 3 (13:28):
I do have to say I somewhat cheat.

Speaker 4 (13:30):
I do select the show DeLong.

Speaker 3 (13:33):
Okay, Well, yeah, no worries, because you're a winner today.
That is the correct answer. It is crossword puzzle. Awesome, awesome, awesome,
Thank you so much.

You are so welcome.

Erica Kirk says that she forgives the man accused of
killing her husband. Speaking at Charlie Kirk's memorial in Arizona yesterday,
she said her husband dedicated his life to doing God's will.
President Trump is pressuring Attorney General Pam Bondi to prosecute
his political rivals, posting on truth Social that charges should
be brought against Senator Adam Schiff, former FBI director James Comy,

(15:00):
and New York Attorney General Letitia James. The UK, Canada,
and Australia have all officially recognized the state of Palestine
in an effort to revive the two state solution amid
the ongoing Israel Hamas conflict. The US has voiced opposition,
with the President warning that Canada's decision could impact trade negotiations.

(15:22):
The University of Maryland is responding to reports of body
lives at multiple locations on its College Park campus. Past
control crews conducted inspections and treatments last week. Metro's watchdog
says that improper door events on Metro rail trains are
on the rise, with twenty seven of them reported so
far this year. That's nearly double last year's total. Metro

(15:45):
is adding staff training and an automatic door system to
improve safety. The Washington Commanders are now two and one
after they defeated the Las Vegas Raiders forty one to
twenty four yesterday. Next up, they'll take on the Falcons
in Atlanta on site and According to a recent survey,
nineteen percent of Americans have never received flowers from a

(16:07):
romantic partner, and many of them struggle with flower related knowledge.
Only twenty four percent can actually name their partner's favorite flower.
Forecast for today partly cloudy Skies. High is going to
be near eighty right now, though it is sixty one
in Ashburn.

Speaker 2 (16:24):
That has me thinking this morning. All right, I'm kiddo'she
in for Toby coming up next? How much homework do
you get? How much homework did you get in elementary
school when you were growing up? One local district is
changing their policy when it comes to how much homework
kids get, and it's causing a big debate. We'll fill
you in next. Thank you for waking up with Toby

(16:45):
and Chiley on ninety seven point one Wash FM. I'm kiddo, O'Shea.
How much homework should elementary school kids get? Here's why
we're talking about it?

Speaker 3 (16:53):
Well, Fairfax County Public Schools introduce new mandatory homework guidelines
for kids in elementary school. Before this it was optional, okay, okay,
And they're saying now this year, kindergarten through second grade
will get about ten to twenty minutes of homework. Third
and fourth graders get twenty to thirty minutes, and fifth
and sixth grade get forty to sixty minutes of homework.

(17:15):
So people are a little bit divided. I want to
know before I tell you what both sides are by
asking you, how did you feel about having to do
homework when you were in elementary.

Speaker 2 (17:26):
I don't think this is going to surprise you, Chili,
but just the word, at forty five years old, still
makes me sick, and I had a visceral reaction to
the word homework.

Speaker 3 (17:36):
You don't feel like it helped you retain information by
working on things after school.

Speaker 4 (17:42):
You've known me for a while, Chili. Are you surprised
by this?

Speaker 6 (17:45):
No?

Speaker 3 (17:45):
Actually I am not. But as a parent, I have
a six year a sixth grader, So what do you
think about this? I think that sixty minutes is an
awful long time because you already have very limited time
with your kids. My son doesn't get home until fourth
are sometimes he has after school activities, and then our
only family time is really like a dinner time to

(18:06):
sit and do whatever, and so I think it eats
into the family time. I think if they're in school
for eight hours. Yeah, at some point in that eight
hour period you can reinforce the lessons I think. But
then there's this other part of me. Okay, I'm a
little torn. Yeah, when they get to middle school or
high school or college, if that's their route, right, there's

(18:27):
gonna be homework. So they need to start practicing and
using those muscles.

Speaker 4 (18:31):
Well, I don't disagree with you.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
We'd love for you to join the conversation eight six
six nine two seven four three six'.

Speaker 4 (18:37):

Fm mondays can be. Tough that's why we like to
find a story that's gonna make Your. Monday this comes
to us From.

Speaker 3 (19:11):
Maryland there's a new campaign making a world of difference
for people who are trying to escape domestic violence and
also for their. Pets it's Called pets Or family two
and the whole idea is pretty. Simple no survivor should
ever have to choose between their safety and the animals they,
love because the sad truth is abusers often use pets as,
leverage threatening to harm them if a partner tries to,

(19:33):
leave and that fear keeps a lot of people trapped
in really dangerous. Homes and only about a quarter of
domestic violence shelters nationwide can take pets, in so even
when someone is ready to, leave they might not know
what to do with their dog or, cat and that's
where this campaign comes. In so with new, funding The
Maryland Network Against Domestic violence is working with shelters now

(19:55):
and service providers and they are setting up foster, programs
boarding up and partnership with pet friendly hotels so that
survivors don't have to leave their animals. Behind, wow it's
not just about logistics, here, Right it's about peace of
mind and knowing that their pets are gonna be safe
so that it's easier for them to walk away from
a dangerous, situation so that is why we're sharing this.

(20:18):
Story thank you so much to the Program pets Or
