Shaun in Fairfax was stationed in Dubai when he invited someone special—someone he'd only talked to online—to fly from the U.S. and meet him. Romantic? Risky? Both? She said yes... but how did this long-distance leap of faith play out? Was it a fairy tale ending—or a total disaster?

Tell us your story.

I met this girl in school and we kept in
contact over the years, but we were always in another
relationship that we finally decided to pull off the band
aid and I was deployed overseas, but I had a
four day pass and I asked her. We started talking
around Valentine's Day and I asked her. She wanted to
come out to my fort day pass as she meet
me in Dubai. So our first date was Dubai on
the Palm Island and we went and just explored the

city and went to the aquarium and everything else. But
our first real date in person was in Dubai.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
Wow, how do you top that microphone drop? We went
to Dubai and you.

Speaker 4 (00:39):
That seems really risky because it could have gone really badly.
And then she's kind of I mean not the Dubai's
a man plays to be stuck in.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
But then she'd be stuck there. So how did that
date end?

Speaker 5 (00:52):
So we ended up having a blast and really enjoying
our time together, and five years later we're married with
a little kid.

Oh wow, congratulations, and are you still serving our country
wearing the uniform of set armed for.

Was there a moment during that Dubai date where you
looked at her and said, yeah, we can never be
just friends?

Probably once or twice.

Yeah, congratulations, your foreign affair really became a happily ever.
