Speaker 2 (00:24):
You guys got a no ball. It's all about running
backs now. Ashton Genty is coming out at the perfect
time when everyone's like, we need a running back, we
need a Saquon Peter. I go to the Verbo Fiesta
Bowl where your guy, Tyler Warren went against my guy,
and I gotta say, Penn State did bottle him up.
Gentsy had thirty carries. He finally got his numbers, but
got If there is not a year when that type
(00:45):
of back who does it all and breaks tackles and
breakaway speed, if this guy does not become a successful
back right out of the shoot, I'm thinking Clinton portis
on the Denver Broncos right out of the MIAKEI Hurricanes
rookie year, wearing a title belt on the sideline. I'm
into it. Genty as my guy, love it. I think
here in New York City, I think there's actually a
feeling of relief, as strange as it might be. And
(01:05):
I think some of the relief is that we did
not sign Rogers, and I think there's a lot amongst
the fan base that has that The paper here, is
Russ here, and then Rogers making the sad face there.
I have a lot of questions, though, like a lot.
First of all, it's already decided. Is Russell Wilson going
to be the starter? His contract has bigger money, so
I guess there's that. Are we sure that Russell Wilson
is better than Jamis? I'm not positive. I mean they
(01:27):
went to head to head last year and Jamis beat
him on a terrible Browns team. Why would they sign
both of these guys and then draft a quarterback. I
think it would be unconventional to have two Bridge guys
and then for some reason they draft shad Is Shauduur
just sit at three for the whole season. Unconventional is
the word? Strange is another one. What does it mean
(01:48):
for Rogers? It means he has one chair left if
he started a quarterback in season twenty one? It's for
the Steelers short of the Vikings making some crazy change.
What does it mean for the Steelers? They have one
viable option left and it's Rogers short of them starting
the season with Mason Rudolph. My takeaway and my gut,
I don't think the Giants are drafting a quarterback. I
think this precludes that. I think even if Shaduur's there,
I think they're going to pass on him. I think
(02:09):
Rogers is going to be a Steeler. How did Giants
fans feel today? I guess I think there's a little
relief they didn't sign Rogers, which I never thought was
gonna happen. I never thought they wanted to happen. And
my last question is like, is this a good day?
Is this good? I have no idea. I'm completely ross
is on his third team in three years. The Steelers
lost five games and the season last year, most of
(02:30):
them by Dualtla double digits. Jamis is on his third
team in three years. They have an adult in the
room one and a half if you count Jamis. But
do they have a great quarterback? No, it's to pour
water on it. Even I don't know. I'm not celebrated.
I mean they're vulnerable, like they to their own doing.
They they got nothing. We're all saying the same thing.
And I also say, if Rogers shows up and plays
(02:53):
like he did last year on a five and twelve
Jets team, He's the Steelers' best quarterback in five years.
Just that alone, Like that's how desperate that they've been.
And yet I look at this is for Rogers, the
guy who always just power broker and always controls his message.
Is this his third choice? Like I think he wanted
to be on the Rams. I think he was interested
in the Vikings. And now it's like, all right, I'll
guess I'll go to the Steelers and jump into that
(03:15):
horrific division, and horrific in the sense that it's going
to be really, really difficult. I'm also fascinated by what
you said, Peter about all right, so he goes to
the Steelers. How is this coming out? Yeah, because it's
not going to be Ian or Tom or so, it's
just not going to be that way. There's going to
be something. And Peter said, there's a live event that
Pat's doing and Aaron would come out. And first of all,
I don't know how the Steelers fans feel about this.
(03:35):
I don't know this would be some massive heroes welcome.
We've seen this before where Devonte comes into the computer
shot and everyone loses their minds and then everybody falls
on their faces and it didn't work out at all.
Does Rogers have that in him to again come out
like a conquering king like Robert Downey Junior is Doctor
Doom and everyone loses their mind. It's I don't think
it's the same deal. I don't think that he has
(03:58):
looked at that way by a Steelers fan base, who
is I love, But there are a bunch of football
snobs there like they they don't they're not impressed with
a lot of people who come in there and think
they're bleep. Doesn't stink. So if he and that's just
I know this crazy theory, if he goes on some
stage and he gets introduced, I don't know what the
reaction would be. Maybe it would be good in the
sense because maybe it'd be a relief because what else
(04:20):
is the quarterback? So remind me, Peter, they could sign
Carson Wentz. He's still a free agent. Yeah, you're not
going to battle in the AFC North in twenty twenty
five with Carson Wentz flock card often, you're not doing
any of that stuff. So I'm kind of at the
same point. All of us are at the chairs are taken,
there's dance partners are taken, all these fields and Daniel
Jones and Russell Stafford, they're all taken, and there's one
(04:40):
guy there in season twenty one who's a four time
MVP who I think wants you. It's fascinating. And the
other thing on with like what at this point you've
met with the team. Everyone is Russell Wilson's going here?
What are we waiting for now? Because it's been weeks,
You've got to contemplate it. You shook the hands, you
took the toury sow the weight room, inside of the cafeteria.
Everyone else is their job. If we don't get this now,
(05:03):
what are we waiting for? I think the time is now,
and if we don't, it seems kind of self indulgement.
I look at the quarterback and Will Howard is a
case of life comes at you fast, and what he's
gone through the last few months. Win the national championship,
you're there on the confetti and the podium and you're
a hero. And then you fast forward to the combine
and you're trending for all the wrong reasons and people
are online saying worst combine workout of all time, that
(05:26):
you cost yourself ten million dollars. I mean, he was
everywhere if you might have seen it, and all of
a sudden he is the butt of every single joke
because of some clips of him throwing that admittedly did
look bad and wasn't on the same page and was late,
and it's just, oh, my god, is this guy going
to get drafted? He just won the national title, go
to the pro day. He throws it on nearly seventy times,
two balls hit the ground, they're both on drops. He's
(05:46):
in the comfort of his atmosphere and his receivers. He
looks great. This is a guy who's six foot four,
two hundred and thirty pounds. He's played on the highest stage,
and he's actually one of the more interesting prospects if
you look into the prognostications, because right now I think
we're twenty eight days exactly from the draft. You have
everything from saying, you know, plummeting down to the bottom
of day three. Do you have some people who do
this for a living who say he's going to shock
(06:08):
everybody to be a second round pick. People have a
lust for quarterbacks, especially big, really strong ones. So I
don't know where he's going to go yet. I like
that he had a little bit of redemption, which is
a theme of today's show. I don't like to see
any college dude coming out of college who's getting destroyed
online for having the worst workout ever. It wasn't the
worst workout ever. We don't even need to get into
(06:28):
who's the worst workout ever. But he looked sharp, he
looked the party, looked like a leader. He's got this
stature and this presence of like a Philip Rivers. He's
got the arm that's good enough, and I was happy
for him. He goes day two great, he goes day
three great. I like that he got it on his
feet yesterday. How do you feel about Ashton Genty in
the NFL? It's more than just how good he is
as a player. He strikes me as someone it's almost
(06:49):
as if he's playing free agency perfectly, and the timing
and the climate. He is a great running back at
the perfect time to be a great running back when
everyone's eyes just fell out of their head. About sa
Kuon and Derek Henry last year and Christian McCaffrey the
year before, everyone's so thirsty for a running back. Peter's right.
As recently as five years ago, you're saying, yeah, he's great,
(07:10):
but just get someone off the scrappeet for cheap, get
Raheem MOSTRT for eight hundred thousand dollars and you put
him in there and he'll be almost as good as
this guy. That's how we all talk. That's how I talk.
Not anymore. This is now. Everyone wants this running back.
I think there's listen, it's not just top five, it's
not just top ten. I can see a team trading
up to get Ashton Gent. You want a nuclear take,
(07:31):
I'll just from the hip prediction. The Dallas Cowboys are
gonna trade up, oh Gent. They're like, we're gonna run
back the Zeke rookie experience, but they're gonna have to
fight for him. I think the Bears are really interesting
him because you can don't have to do the math
to see what Ben Johnson did in Detroit with the
two running backs. I thought Brad Biggs the Tribune had
a great, great observation. He goes, all right, Ben Johnson,
(07:51):
they had sonic and they had knuckles in Detroit. He's like,
this guy is sonic and knuckles. He don't need to guys.
He does everything. And Ben Johnson loves running backs. That's great.
The Bears are sitting there at ten. Don know if
that's rich enough that's where we are with this guy's production,
his talent, everything about it. It's all coming together. If
it's not top five, it'll be six. And if it's
(08:13):
not six, it'll be seven. That's as far back as
I'm going. Great player, great timing on this guy. Russ
is really good at this. He's really good at this part.
And he looks the part and he looks great, and
he's very famous. And for non football fans and for
football fans, we've been down the road with Russ for years.
And you play the Super Bowl thing and he wonted
New York. He's really really good at that. And he
(08:34):
comes in and he has that CEO feel and he
speaks well. Everything he says just has a positive vibe
to it. It also at this point has a vibe
of familiarity. And here's what I mean. Take a look.
First of all, it's super grateful to be here. It's
a great opportunity to do everything we can to enjoy
this process and really love just the whole process. Here
some guys that are on our team that are some
(08:55):
of the best in the game. Some of the guys
have admired playing against guys like Desha Lawrence, and guys
like Burns and other guys. And we've got some amazing players,
you know, guys like you, Cam Hay or go work
for it every day, the goal every day and to
be able to do what I love every day. When
it all say you did it, that you helped the
Pittsburgh Steelers win do special things and win a Super
Bowl and maybe hopefully more. Am I bad guy for
(09:15):
playing that? All right? Guys, listen to me. Listen. Maybe
it'll end differently. I hope it ends differently. God bless
the New York Giants. It's a speech by numbers. You
bring them in and it's all the things I'm saying.
It's Russell Wilson. He was amazing in Seattle. He's so positive,
he's so encouraging. You have such a great vibe. Come in,
talk about positivity, competing, mention a couple of the famous
(09:39):
players on the team, and how eager you are to
get to work with them, and how much you can't
wait to get to work and positive and positive make
an appearance in the city, whether it be at a
sandwich shop or a basketball game. Everyone waves, and then
we can do in the next next year, And the
next year is he gonna be in Carolina or I
don't know, you know what I'm saying. I don't want
to be the Debbie Downer here, but guys, let's not
(10:01):
be so naive and a babe in the woods to say, wow,
this is it's great. Okay, you know, Peter, the Daniel
Jones thing. Daniel Jones was more in demand this year
in the free agency than Russell Wilson was, and is
getting paid more money than Russell Wilson is by the Colts. Okay,
Russell Wilson is there because the Giants didn't get Stafford
and didn't get Rogers, and the Giants said, we got
(10:23):
I guess somebody, like we got to have a quarterback.
And so there is no message I don't think right
now viable that is like we're gonna win the East
this year. We're gonna take it. We're going back. It's like, listen,
it's been tough. Daniel screwed us. We tried this guy,
we tried this guy, we tried everything, and we could
get Russell Wilson here and we have a relationship with him,
(10:43):
and he's gonna be a competent professional who's gonna represent
the team well and they put him on the JumboTron,
and since it's March, they're gonna cheer him, but they
probably won't in October. It's just it's fine, So I
don't want to just completely crap on this. It's a
really fun, positive, optimistic viewpoint. We've been here before. I've
seen this movie before. I feel it's momento and I'm
looking at that poll the DS and I know what happens,
(11:05):
but it's still the speech comes out, so God blessed
Russell Wilson and the New York Giants. I hope it
works out, but I can't stand here have the ticker
tape being like, well, I think this might work. I
hope it does. I don't suspect it probably will.
