Ten Takes is a production of the NFL in partnership

Speaker 2 (00:24):
What are we gonna get him? Saquon this year? Fascinating
to me? Maybe the coolest story of the season.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
Last year, the two thousand yards, the backwards jump, everything.
What does he do the next year? Because here we
have Saquon twenty eight and a half years old. I
looked it up because every little bit counts. He's not
even entry level twenty eight. He's doing eight back in February,
you know what I'm saying. So there's he's well into
the twenty eight and he's got so many things working.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
What's up, Jim? Isn't he a Super Bowl birthday?
Speaker 1 (00:49):
Nah?
Speaker 2 (00:49):
Cooper Dejene?
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Yeah and yeah, so February all right, So that goes
long time ago. Yes, he's got so many things working
for him, obviously, all his talents and the offensive line
and the scheme and everything. What is not working for
Saquon if you're looking for him to be the same
level of production last year, is history because he isn't
a very exclusive club. Yeah, the two thousand yard club
the next year ain't pretty all right, So here's the
(01:12):
recent members. We're not having guys like Dickerson and the
juice on there. But look at Derrick Henry, all right,
twenty twenty seven, down to nine to seventeen, missed a
bunch of games. Adrian Peterson down eight hundred yards, Chris
Johnson down seven hundred yards, Jamal Lewis down a full thousand,
and as we know, if you remember, TD got injured
the next year. So Saquon Barkley history says, is not
(01:32):
gonna get two thousand.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
He's not gonna get close to two thousand.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
Let's say Saquan has a nice year and lands on
fourteen fifteen hundred, the Eagles of Super Bowl champs. Do
they need a two thousand yard Saquon or is there? Okay,
he did his year, and now it's gonna be Jalen,
It's gonna be all those wide receivers or guys. And
the one that it really blows my hair back.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
Is Saquon the anomaly.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
And can he look at people like Eric Dickerson and
Derrick Henry and say, I'm gonna hit this thing again.
I am that talented, I am that much of a
difference maker that at twenty eight and a half years old,
I'm going to actually make history and break dance into
the Hall of Fame by going two thousand, two thousand,
and that's how we run it back. I want to
see how it shows up. It's done a lot of
(02:14):
work last year. The next year is not usually as
kind Aaron Rodgers, what we we got?
Speaker 2 (02:21):
What are we getting?
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Oldest guy in the league, quarterback of the Steelers. All
we're doing week one is going back to Mettlife Stadium
and playing the Jets. He's going against the coach who
cut him. Aaron Rodgers never been cut in his life.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
They released him.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
They're like Aaron Rodgers sat down across the desk from
him and said, well, look, you don't know me. And
Aaron Glenn said, well you don't know me. Like that's
a verbatim recap of the conversation. And then Rogers got
back in his private jet and food back to Malibou
and they're never speaking again.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
I think I have a moment before the game.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
All of that aside, I'm not even to the football yet.
I'm not even too what is Rogers doing week one? Rogers, guys,
I hate to say, it has not been great Week
one over the last half decade, and to even take
the injury out. I remember Rogers with the Packers being
blasted by the Jami Winston.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
Saints one year.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
Like, he doesn't win a lot week one the last
four or five years, and now he's got to get
off and running with the Steelers team, but always gets
it done.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Meanwhile, what if Justin Fields looks really good?
Speaker 3 (03:14):
Like oldest player in the league in his twenty first
season on his third team in four years. Everything about
this is interesting to me. If he's great, it's fascinating.
If he's terrible, it's fascinating. And I bet he's not average.
That's just output that I have a lot of faith
in him. I think it's gonna be in a ARNF
and we'll find out. But guy, what a great matchup
(03:36):
the team that I think has a little more intrigue
right now. I'm excited to see the Detroit Lions because
I'm hearing a lot of chatter about the Lions that
I do not like. There's cracks coming in. You know,
the coordinator's gone and they carried the team and Campbell's
just a yeller allegedly. I'm seeing stuff about you know,
they don't have as many Dome games this year. They're
(03:57):
going outside as if they're just gonna fall apart in
the offense because it's sixty five degrees instead of seventy
two for a given game like the proven year. For
Dan Campbell, I've compared him to a guy who's part
of a band who goes solo. Sometimes they fall on
their face. Sometimes they're actually even better. He's now going solid.
He's got coordinators, of course. But if you thought in
any way that Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson were some
(04:17):
of the firepower and the horsepower behind this engine, we
will find out very soon. Lions packers right out of
the gate, right out of the bleeping gate. They swept
the Packers last year, and now the packers look that
the Packers got the attention now because they got Parsons.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
The Bears have attention.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
The Vikings JJ, It's like the Lions like, eh, not
terribly interesting anymore. I am interesting because then there's big
changes taking places. It's funny to me that, Jamie, we're
talking a lot about what we're doing a year ago.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
A year ago we were all still marveling in CJ.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
Stroud's rookie season, saying, well, no one will never touch that,
and then James was better.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
James was better. It was everything. It was. It was
fundamentally sound, it.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
Was special, it was exciting, it was it was fantastic.
And this guy has played in by far the biggest games.
This guy, damn near became the first rookie to ever
start a Super And I.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
Was really worried about Terry McLaurin.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
I was whether he was out there for football, whether
it was going to disrupt Jayden's abilities and his improv
and all that. He's under contract. He's there, It's all
systems go. He has a great coach. People are looking
for the step back, and by people, I mean maybe
the other five guys up on the board here. I
just there wasn't one second I watched him last year
he didn't seem totally cool, confident, in control.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
We also do something, and I don't want to put
too bad at juju out there.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
We talk a lot about if we could put one
player in the NFL in a bubble and protect them
from harm. My bubble guys, Jane Daniels, if he works
well this year, a.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
Player as we've said as Christian McCaffrey, yeah, I just
put him in a bubble.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
I want to see you out there if he plays
well this year or not. I just want to see
him on his own two legs doing it. So Jayden,
I mean, how do you beat that? Well, you go
to the super Bowl in the second year. It's the
only thing he didn't do. You're going to see something
this week, and you're going to see something this week
in media where someone out there or some people are
(06:04):
going to be like, look at me, I am going
to go against the Chiefs, and I'm going to go
all in against the Chiefs, and I'm going to say
something crazy like not only that she's not.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
Going to the super Bowl, I don't think they're.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
Going to make the playoffs and they're gonna go seven
and ten and it's going to completely fall apart. Now,
maybe that person really means that, Maybe they don't mean it.
This is a big, big week for people out there.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Maybe it's on our show.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Maybe it's some others to draw attention and draw eyeballs
by picking apart the Chiefs and saying that thing's gonna
fall apart. I saw it with the Patriots. People would
do it for years. You just say the Patriots run
is over, and everybody blows up. If you see someone
saying the Chiefs are going to completely fall off the
map this year, like it's just gonna stop, the party's
gonna stop. Take a minute and ask yourself, do you
really believe what they're saying or are they being aravocateur
(06:52):
who's going to toss some Molotov cocktail on the social
media and just wait for the clicks because that person
will come. Now, maybe they mean it and they have
really good backup meaning behind it.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
I look at the Chiefs. Yes, they got hammered in
the Super Bowl. Hammered. They won fifteen.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
Games in the regular season last year, then pretty casually
beat a very good Houston Texas team, then beat the
MVP again in Buffalo, and they just ran into an
Eagles team that I think would have beaten the ninety
two Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
It's one of the best teams I've ever seen.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
So if you're thinking, like super Bowl hangover, we've seen
the Chiefs, who was a hangover before, Yeah, but they
got just We've seen them get destroyed in the Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
They had no chance against him.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
We've all seen this, and they come right back like
a booye that you hold under watch right back up.
So the take's going to be out there, not coming
from me. I think the Chance can do great things
this year. But when you see the take, give it
a little sniff test you think it's authentic or if
it's stinked, because I bet it's the letter. I'm really
excited for two guys that play in the opener. I'm
(07:48):
looking for JJ and Caleb and totally different deal. We've
seen him start a whole year. We haven't seen him
at all over here. I think it would be so
cool if this guy was really good. He's so well liked,
the background is amazing, and for him to enter the
fray be like, I know I missed last year, guys,
but I'm going to be part of this club. If
he does something crazy like throws three touchdowns a soldier
field and wins that game. And yet that draft, you
(08:10):
ask me my memories of it. Here's some memories that
I have of the draft. We have five first round quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
Here, and there was very, very very.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
Little debate about who should be going to number one
because it was like, oh, get Caleb, if you can
get Caleb. Caleb is the most talented, Caleb has the
strongest arm. The Bears did not spend five seconds thinking
about it, and we'll never know.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
If the Commanders had the number one pick, I think
they would have taken Caleb. So now you have.
Speaker 3 (08:35):
All of the talents and there's nothing that's really aged
worse really than how the twenty twenty four Bears were
set up to receive Caleb Williams. There will be a
documentary on at some point it was bad and now
it's completely opposite. So if you take that talent again,
the undisputed number one pick, all the weapons, all and
the crazy mad scientists like I really do think the.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
Bears could do something very very special this year.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
I think the Bears could do this year what this
team did last year, and that is intoxicating for a
team that you usually gets it wrong.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
I think this could be the year they get it right.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
I haven't been able to get over the Dallas part
of it. I still have like a hangover if I'm
a Cowboys fan. Here's my bottom line. I don't think
they're getting to a Super Bowl this year. I think
that that was a choice about the future, and maybe
they wouldn't have this year. They probably wouldn't have, but
they just significantly weakened the twenty twenty five Dallas Cowboys.
In my opinion, like maybe Dallas this is the year.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
It's not the year.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
I don't I don't mind saying it. In August, I
don't think they're getting to the super Bowl. In fact,
they're not. They might have with Micah who the hell knows.
So you know it's draft picks. Let's say you nail
those draft picks. Best case scenario, like a couple of
years from maybe three years from now, those players are
then really entering their prime. Is Dak even still there?
Is Dak even still his prime? So it's like it's
still just a wing and a prayer for the Cowboys.
(09:49):
And I hate that right before the season they significantly
weakened their team.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
I hate that. I hate it.
