Speaker 1 (00:04):
Ten Takes is a production of the NFL in partnership
with iHeartRadio.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
This is the weirdest, most fun NFL season ever. This
is so strange the fact that we are here and
the idea now where the state of the nation is
is that Lamar and Burrow and Mahomes maybe likely won't
start a playoff game, But Philip Rivers is going to
start a playoff game in twenty twenty five, or a
regular season game, maybe a playoff game.

Speaker 3 (00:42):
I don't even know.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
We should have known, Jamie, because before the first snap
of this NFL season was even taken, one of the
best players in the offending champs was ejected for spitting
on Dak Prescott. And then it's been weird ever since then.
It's never settled down. And I think this has the
potential for story of the year. If Philip Rivers starts
a game, he plays terribly, I don't even care if

(01:04):
he's out there starting in twenty twenty five for the Colts,
let alone playing well, Let alone in some miracle winning
going on some sort of Disney movie run.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
It's the story of the year.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
It's also for a lot of us, in a weird way,
relatable who doesn't and once they hit a certain age
dream about getting back out there.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
And getting back out there might just be you go
back to doing.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Lower body you're on the squat rack, or you can
take your shirt off at the pool again, or even
you can post a picture of yourself on Instagram.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
Whatever your version of this is. Philip Rivers has a.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
Lot of guys and women in their forties and fifties
saying like, I still think I have it, I still
think I can do it. His version of getting back
into the squad rack is going and starting an NFL
game a quarterback and it's starting to look like it's
going to happen. I would also say to add what
Mike was saying about some of the past of this.
I would encourage anybody. Phil was on with Dan Patrick

(01:58):
this past summer, just like five months ago, and he
comes up in the zoom and DP does what we
all do when you see an old player, say wow,
you look like you can still play, and Rivers goes, yeah,
I can. I'm not kidding, And you know I'm little
heavier now, but I can still play. I have the
pads on sometimes and I can still throw it. It
was like this disarmingly serious answer, and then he goes

(02:18):
into recollect about yeah, it was a couple of years ago.
I was talking to John Lynshi the Niners were interested
in me, and I was talking to the Saints, and
like this has all been talked about, Like, I think
this is something he's been interested in for a long time,
up to and including to the point that it wouldn't
surprise me if that comes out that he contacted the Colts.
I don't know how it went down once Daniel Jones
got hurt. I wouldn't be surprised if Phil called the

(02:40):
Colts was like, hey, do you want me, I'll come
in for a workout. He's here, he's ready. He doesn't
think it's a joke, he doesn't think it's a novelty.
And I think a lot of us can look at
him and be like, that's cool, you know, Matt. If
someone asked me to do like some clean and jerk
or hand cleans right now, like this would be my equotes.
I'd be terrified and I'd be like, I'm going to
get hurt. But his version of that is going out
and started and he's actually doing it. I'm inspired. I

(03:03):
think this was a really important. Justin Herbert Knight a
really important night because Justin Herbert's reputation, his performance is
it always starts with always, so talented, He's so talented,
such a good guy, so talented, so talented, and he is.
But on this particular night, he was a full leader.

Speaker 4 (03:21):
He was a gladiator. He was gritty, he was dirty.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Was all the things you don't hear about Justin Herbert enough.
The fact that he didn't pass very well, he didn't
have big statistics.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
I love that.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
The fact that Justin Herbert is playing with a broken hand,
He's getting sacks seven times, He's the Chargers leading rusher
in the game, running all over the field. Afterwards, he
was even gritty, and there was this moment with the
media where maybe he wasn't going to do the interview.
It was like he was an ornery Justin Herbert because
he was so deep in the.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Competition of it.

Speaker 4 (03:53):
And I absoutely love that.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
His coach afterwards, Jim Harbach said, it was like watching
a movie out there. Justin Herbert is usually like a
Disney movie. He looks like a Disney prince. He's got
this sort of Flynn Ryder John Smith adjacent to Christoff
five to him where he's really pretty and he's got
the hair. He's not really the main character, but he's
someone that you like and your root for.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
None of all that.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
Last night he was the main character, and he was like,
not that nice of a character. He was kind of
a bad guy, kind of a villain, and I have
not seen that from him. When the world champs are
in town and you're building and you're hurt and your
team needs a win, he just straight up decided to
fight last night, fight hurt, and I think justin Herbert
has so much good equity about how talented he is

(04:38):
and how strong his arm is.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
That's great.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
I love an injection of grit to the tall, pretty
guy with the famous girlfriend and the Disney face, like
it's all of that is really cool for him. I
thought it was a great night for him, and they're
gonna need some more of that in the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (04:51):
Because that's where they're headed.

Speaker 4 (04:53):
The Eagles have a boogeyman.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
They have a Pennywise who shows up and haunts them
and crawls out of the drain and freaks them out,
and they're penny Wise is twenty twenty three, twenty three
season is what creeps up the twenty twenty three season.
If you don't remember, the Eagles were ten and one.
They started ten to one, they finished eleven and six,
and they got hammered in the wild card round by Tampa.

Speaker 4 (05:14):
This season completely imploded.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
This is Jason.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
Kelsey's last season. It just died on the vine. This
year they were rate in two. They are now eight
and five, and Sirianni has talked about twenty twenty three.
The players have talked about it, and it's about exercising
this ghost and this demon of what happened to them
that I hope so because they are on a three
game losing streak and I know you have a very
kind schedule right now, but I can't say with confidence

(05:37):
that the Eagles are going to be in anybody because
of the state of their offense. Nick Siriani, coach him
up right now. Coach him up, because Howie Roseman was
not going to fix this. He is not going to
trade for anybody. You're not going to get some new
avalanche of players from Georgia to help with this.

Speaker 4 (05:53):
Nick Sirianni, make this your moment.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Because he still has one of the most interesting, complicated
legacies in the entire NFL. There's so many people who
saw that win the Souper Bowl last year and credit
Howie Roseman for it. There's so many people. If you
asked around the league, who are your top five coaches?
Would any of them have Nick Sirianya, who just won
the Super Bowl, who was in another Super Bowl?

Speaker 4 (06:11):
At your top ten coach? Would any of them put
them there?

Speaker 2 (06:14):
Get this team together and get their bleep in order
from the inside out. Because I heard Saquon Barkley at
the end of last year say we were one of
the best teams of all time, and I don't even
think he was wrong, but one of the best teams
of all times. That was them last night. It's mostly
the same roster. It's most of the same guys. Another
question that team, what happened to the tush push?

Speaker 4 (06:35):
Did you guys self ban it? You don't run it anymore?

Speaker 3 (06:37):
What happened? It?

Speaker 2 (06:38):
Just you got a fumble against the Bears and this
is it.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
Here's the goal line sequence.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
Sequon stuffed nothing first and goal in the two roll.
Jalen out Waits waits touchdown, but it's invalidated for holding penalty.

Speaker 4 (06:52):
I don't recognize this team, run.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
The toush push four times and you'll score. Why are
you against it? Because you had one fumble against the Bears.
This is the same sequence. Then Jalen runs around as
absolutely nothing, throws it away and I don't.

Speaker 4 (07:05):
Know who this team is.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
Jalen drops back again, gets sacked nothing. This is the
world champs who push people around, and our bad boy
Rock and Roll are gonna have the league ban the
play that they use to perfection every single time.

Speaker 4 (07:18):
Where the hell is the tush push? Where the hell
are the.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Twenty twenty four Eagles, because I'm worried we're gonna see
the twenty twenty three Eagles if they're coach. Yes, their
coach doesn't do something about it. They have a penny
wise guys, and I see him down in the drain
right now, calling him down, and it's not gonna end
well if they don't fix this now. This whole matchup,
the game, the handshake, the media, everything it is enshrouded

(07:43):
with the context of the fact that they are playing
in two weeks. That's what makes this thing so fun.
It's like there's a sequel coming, guys. This one right
here was Infinity War. The next one is endgame.

Speaker 4 (07:56):
Like it's a cliffhanger. We go, we go right into
it in two weeks in Chicago.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
So ay, they're not going to say anything to make
it bigger. They're not going to do anything. But the
handshake after that one is really interesting, really interesting a
because maybe Lafleur wins the second one and maybe he
pulls them in a little bit and I don't know,
let's say, let's talk about it a little bit, or
maybe Ben Johnson wins that one and shows that differently,
And just when you think it couldn't be even more interesting,

(08:23):
then there's the idea that this sequel might have a
trilogy where they play in the they might play in
the playoffs, so all kinds of stuff that they're shutting
this down. I think both of them don't like each other.
I think both of them want to gouge each other's
eyeballs out. The second handshaker is the one I'm looking
to because that's the one they'll have a little more
payoff right now.

Speaker 4 (08:44):
I think CJ.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
Stroud is one of the most pivotal players in the
entire NFL because they have a Super Bowl defense. If
he can continue to play better Races game where the
next month like this guy's the limit drunk. Don't forget
this Texas defense. It just went an airhead one a
couple of weeks ago. Sack Josh Allen eight time backs.

Speaker 4 (09:03):
They picked him off like they bullied Buffalo.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
Who's going to be there.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
I don't know if the Chiefs are or not, but
like if CJ. Stroud plays well, this team can go
to the super Bowl this year. The defense is that good.
We haven't seen the Patriots in a couple weeks, and actually,
that's the worst thing that could have happened to them,
was they have their buy.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
Just keep playing.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
You win every single week, don't stop, just keep going
and going. They won ten in a row and then
they have a bye and actually, in a weird roundabout way,
you don't even want to buy.

Speaker 4 (09:31):
Just keep on winning and keep them momentum.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
I'm actually gonna go with Buffalo here in fact, because
part of that reason, but more importantly the reason they
beat them last time.

Speaker 4 (09:39):
They got two turnovers.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
From Josh in the last game they picked him off,
he fumbled, they recovered in it. I think Josh is
playing better now than he was then. I still just
it's so difficult to win this many games in a row.
Eleven game winning streaks are so rare, and with second
year quarterback they're almost unheard of. It's not really a
sled against the Patriots.

Speaker 3 (09:58):
They're great.

Speaker 2 (09:59):
They're great, and I think they are going huge places.
I just think Buffalo is going to have this not
qu yet moment. Yet we're still here to try to
win the East. I think Buffalo wins a very very
close game, and so they both win in each other's house, and.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
Maybe we do it again in the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
I think about the McVeigh one, and it reminds me
if I were to get to be able to tap
into their headset. It reminds me of putting on a
director's DVD commentary of their movie.

Speaker 4 (10:24):
It gets old after a while.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
It's usually not that interesting, especially if it's Tarantino. He
just never shuts the hell up, and it's just annoying.
I think after like five minutes of McVeigh, you'd be like,
all right, I get it, all right, Dane, let's go
in a double left.

Speaker 4 (10:37):
Hullabaloo bingo blah blah blah blah blah.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
I just I think it's too much and I would
turn off, whereas I am always transfixed every single time
we play a piece of video where Dan.

Speaker 4 (10:46):
Campbell talks, I'm sitting here talking like.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
Him during the video.

Speaker 4 (10:50):
Man, I just drop down into it. I like doing it.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
It's fun to do it. I'd like to listen to it.
I find it.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
Soon in at this point, if Dan Campbell did one
of those sleep videos like Matthew McConaughey does to put
you to sleep at night on the app, I would
turn it on and I would go right to sleep.
I have dreams of sugar plums and Seeking Destroy and Master.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
Of Puppets, and I would love it. I like his voice.
He used to fire me up.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
Now it soothes me, and I would listen to it
like a PBR for three hours, whereas.

Speaker 3 (11:16):
McVeigh it's a lot.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
It's probably a lot for Stafford to listen to for
three hours.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
I don't think I can handle. I'm going Campbell.
