Speaker 1 (00:07):
It's up, Bucks fans, Welcome to another edition of the
Behind the Buccaneers podcast. I'm comment by Tally, your host
and staff writer for Buccaneers dot Com, and I'm taking
you under the helmet with some of your favorite players
all season long's radar or like would like m a

(00:27):
what's what a video game ratings and it's not. It's
not for everyone lies. Today's episode is a little bit
different and a little bit special because I have not
one guest, but all three specialists on with me. Got
a special because they're specialists. Kicker Matt Gay, punter Bradley Opinion,

(00:49):
and long snappers Act Turner join me for a conversation
that probably doesn't differ from any other conversation between the
three of them. They're kind of a package deal. So
come on into the player's lounge at Advent Health Training
Center with me as I catch up with the trio.
All you guys are family guys. You're all married, We

(01:11):
all have wives and wives and lives. You have a kid?
Oh yeah, how is Ali all? He's good? He's ten
weeks Oliver's Keith would say, your wife is from right, so, like,
does she still have her accent? Why? So? Do you

(01:32):
think Ali will have an accent. I'll make sure he
does a fake accent when he hangs out with his
wife too much. I don't know if there's such things
too much, but he gets an accent when we went
to London. Don't say fake accent. It's not face, it's
totally fitted. Fake would be me trying to do it.
I don't try. I don't consciously say I'm gonna talk

(01:54):
into British accent. I go home, got with some of
Millie's family, came back with a British accent and we
were like, Matt, what are you doing right now? But
I feel like that's really easy because I have family
in London too, and I feel like every time I
get around them, I start saying things like quite or
a little bit like what like I get it naturally. Naturally,

(02:16):
if you start to like mimic people that you're when
I go home, I have like a Boston action, gets
a little stronger and talk to I think about it's
just like, yeah, even m J when she's around some
other other guys and you don't think about me. So
I don't think about it. Just happens. It happens. But
I might start thinking about it, make sure that little

(02:36):
kid has a just some like it would be way
better if you're going to like a school interview and
they have a British act. I'm saying I'm home and
start speaking, like making your speaking just so he'll come
up like he'll be a little bit of a accent.
I do feel like it makes you sound really smart.
It makes him sound cools. There's people that want their
kids to speak two languages. You just want, however, to

(02:57):
have a different I just wanted to have an accent.
That's it, So let me have And Bradly, you have dogs,
three three of them, and you launched your Punts for Pups,
Pots for Pups. Yes, so every punt inside the twenty
my wife and I we sponsor, which is basically just
paid for the adoption of a dog at the Gosborough
County Pet Resource Center. That's cool, Yeah, it's awesome. Your

(03:21):
wife was telling me how like you go to the
shelters and every time you want to take another dog. Yes,
this was hopefully prevent that for my family. You have
the yard now you could just have all the dogs. Yeah, no,
my wife doesn't believe in outside dogs, so all of
our dogs are inside and our smallest dog is seven accounts. Geez,

(03:43):
so we have like a seventy seventy two and seventy five.
Their weights are and he may not take home anymore dogs.
But that has spilled over to us. Now I was
gonna say, hell Matt was looking for another dog. I
was looking for a dog. Now we're gonna be all
we have like twin the three of us. We might
have tin dogs work sitting down. I had dogs grown up,

(04:05):
and we're looking into getting the dog. I said no
for the longest time, and then I go over to Bradley,
said I stay at Bradley's house for O T s
and the three dogs over there. I was like, I
think I have a fever puppy fever. So has baby
fever spilled out or is it just puppy fever? At
this point, I have a dog. You have a dog.

(04:29):
What kind of dog do you have? I have a cavapoo.
Oh no, I know what that is. Cavalier in a
cavalier keen Charles Vanue with the poodle. So she's like,
getting my dog would eat it probably do your dogs
have playd eights? No, h my dogs would eat their
dog for breakfast. What kind of dog would you get,

(04:49):
Zacht if you give sober great Dan, not that I've
looked into it, that you've looked into it, a little
time to think about it. So basically you just want
bigger dogs, like could eat Bradley's dog. I had Master,
it's grown up. So have you ever seen the sand Lot? Yeah,
that's a Master. So I've always been a big dog guy.
But that would be the small dog to dog. I

(05:10):
guess well, it would be like small medium watch. That's
what we did. We started with we have Nala, Nelly
and No. We started with Nala and Nala seventy pounds
and then we got Nala and at least seventy two pounds.
Name we got No five pounds. So we just keep
getting bigger, getting bigger. So you're gonna have to start
going up to like that's in great day. Eventually that's
that's gonna fly a bear, just a pet bear took

(05:33):
off for there was a guy who worked with somehow
there was a guy who worked with that fidelity who
had a half wolf, half dog. So sick. Yes, yes,
a lot they're so smart. I had when it lived
underneath slowly in Arizona in apartment. She would howel too.
That's what we said, real a real howel too? Did

(05:56):
you did you just say that you were to fidelity? Yeah? Okay,
how did you become a long snapper? I feel like
nobody has the same path to long snapper? I luckily
had a coach in high school. All Right, we're at
a high school camp and it's like dog days. I'm
playing old line. You're playing both ways in high school
with hig school, so you're playing everything Like, I really
don't want to go do these offensive line drills. And

(06:18):
there's guys over there, like not moving and they're just
throwing the ball between the legs. I should probably learn
how to do that so I can get out of
this offensive line drill. So you were offensive linman first? Yeah, okay,
So I played that and then I was like, all right,
I'll go over there. And then I had a coach,
coach reardon, if he's listening, help me out and ended
up being pretty good at it. And so you just
decided that that you listen very long careers, that's what

(06:42):
I'm hoping. The longest I think they have they do,
like the longest average. Yeah, it's tough to get in
care so, but once you're on there, usually it's a
long rod. I'm just picturing like the alternations all right.
Time to get off the rod. That's wild started from me?

(07:05):
Now look at me. Now, did you start in soccer?
I know you started in soccer, Matt, but did you
start in soccer too? Rod? Yeah? Technically when did did
you switch? Like? Way before? I started playing football in
seventh grade? Okay, so if I'm fact, my grandpa played
for Dallas Cowboys and he was a punter. Also, wow,
I don't think I knew that. I definitely didn't. So

(07:29):
it was a very short stint half a year, I
think it's what. It wasn't even like Colby here, um.
And so you played soccer? Start playing soccer? Four. My
brother had older brothers, so I did whatever my other
brother did, he played soccer, and so I'm started playing
soccer for kick a soccer ball really long way. I
got a football for Chris Ben's point into seventh grade,

(07:52):
went out to our local field and I was just
throwing it around and my dad put it on the
ground and I keep like a thirty five yard field
goal over and first time I ever touched the football,
and my dad was like, hang on, do that again.
Did it again? And he was saying, this could get
you some professional help with this. And that's just kind
of how it got started. And then my grandpa, of
course I always like bushing me because he saw kick

(08:12):
soccer ball, try to kick the football. So I actually
used to hate punting. So why did you hate it?
Punts getting her glory? You're right, it's a thankless and
thankless job. And I always wanted to kick field goals,
but I wasn't built for kicking field goals. I'm a
little too tall. Is that a thing? Yeah, you can't
be tall and kick go goals. It's harder. You gotta

(08:33):
get under the ball a little more, so it puts
a little more stressed on the bottom of your feet. Yeah. Basically,
kickers have small feet. Do you have some feet for
my size? I'd say, I'm like a size nine and
a half ten. Okay, So so I guess that doesn't
play into it. So I just started. My dad like

(08:53):
forced me to keep punting because he knew I was
too big and actually had more offers to kick field
goals and us I did point took the offer and
look at you now blow all the story. Look at
you guys now, and I know you started a soccer Shoot,
you just started playing football. Did you just like not
get enough of an adrenaline rush from soccer that you

(09:15):
wanted to add in like the potential that people are
going to hit you? No, okay, they never scored when
he was playing soccer, so we had to find a
way to get some point. All this. Wow, messed up
scored too much, That's what it was. So I'm used
to hatchicks, so I just thought I might just do

(09:35):
it in one. Kids, hats three like three like three
goals and three in a game, right, So you want
to now you want to just kick three field goals
in a game? No? Now, you just kids? I get
it all right? For anybody listening, it's early kind of ish,
although I don't know y'all have been up, probably up

(09:56):
for a minute. But what al right? Early right are
so annoying because Bradley can go to bed at like
midnight and still wake up before exactly with me, he
would go to bed, he would go to bed at
eight o'clock and he'd be like, oh yeah, I'm gonna
get up early, and I'd be up and out of
the house before he picked up and he was like,
when did you wake up? What did you go to bed?
He'd get so mad. I'm like, it's like he has

(10:17):
five minutes before my alarm. No matter when I said that,
he's always up before. He's annoying. It's funny. That's really
funny to think of you guys the thing together. It's
funn We had a little carew my wife with with
with us and we are I mean we had a house.
I made too many bedrooms and they took a great

(10:38):
care of me. That's wonderful. Like, you guys have to
be like really close though, because you know, you see,
you got out of practice and you're on a supper
field you're hanging out. Like what if you guys hate
each other though? Like what if you get stuck on
his team? And because you're all new this year, what
if you like, what if you hated each other? I

(10:58):
don't know if it depends on the day. No, No,
I mean we have had a lot of dead time
with each other. Yeah, I'll de other like each other.
What do you do on your your dead time? What
great podcast? Yes? What about all the other times? Uh?
Just talking about random stuff? Played cards a lot in

(11:21):
training camp. Yeah that that filled a lot of time. Yeah,
what's your card game? Don't go yeah when Yeah, it's
but shout out to Cairos and us and hebe was
here it um we played it's a Persilian card game. Wow,
that's really hard to explain. If actually tried to explain,
it's really random. Really started the games was seven seven

(11:44):
of space seven whatever. We haven't played it in a minute.
I thought he was making it up on the spot,
like I sounded like he was telling us so, but
be great to be determined that he didn't make it
up all right before. Don't even know what does that
word means? For example, Yeah, okay a little well it

(12:08):
also seems like you have a prepency just just bust
out into song, as was on our TikTok. If you
go to TikTok, you'll see have you seen this guy
on twitter? TikTok is it's the vine? Yeah, you used
to use it. Use utes, you, not the you, not

(12:29):
those utes, the youth, the Northeastern way to say. I
think it was writ that movie. Is that is that
what it's from? Yeah? Okay, use yeah, I'll break in
a song all time I'm singing. I was like, I
don't realize I'm singing at the time. What is that real?
Because you wouldn't know. So Matt Millie's Matt's wife, Millie.

(12:52):
Her family is very musical and they have great voices.
So I think that's just something that I don't know
if you've done that before you met Millie. Yeah, like
the hold my dad. My dad just sings like he
sings all the time, like and so I don't know.
I would just I I'm just singing and I don't
realize I'm singing. So I'll be me and Million were
dating you, like, and when we first started dating, she

(13:13):
was like caught off guard a little bit because like
we'd walk into like a gas station or like a
Walmart and I'm like, just like singing a song like loud, dude.
It's not like I'm my brother. I'm just like singing it,
and she's like looking around, like what are you doing? Um,
she's gotten used to it now. But some people were
to make a movie about your life, it would have

(13:34):
to be a music hall probably definitely, because I mean
we were rooming together in training camp and he would
on the phone listen to some song and I'm like
that's a really good song. Who's that? I was trying
to spotify it. He's like, Oh, it's my brother in law.
I'm like, what, that's crazy, Jared Monday. I go listen
to the songs. Wow, So you actually so it's Millie's brother.

(13:56):
Millie's brother. Uh he sings sings to him really seeing
um ones like chunter like pursuer right now, he's got
some put a lot of songs out in the last
few months and stuff. So so you fit right end.
I mean they're good at singing. I'm not good at Definitely,
I'm very bad at singing. But I sing all the time,

(14:19):
Disney songs or just anything anything, it doesn't matter what.
I appreciated the whole New World. Are you guys are
gonna get Disney Plus? Did you get Disney Plus? I
was looking down the list of things that they offer.
They do offer some great throwbacks, like special Specialist. You know, yeah.
Somebody stops try to me and they were watching Brink.
They're like, guess what movie? And I instantly Brink was

(14:47):
the skateboard like roller Blade team pupping SuDS and explades,
puppin SUTs man. Did you not watch Disney Channel? Rigial movies.
Bro Let's brink, that's not I broke my wrist because
Brent came. I was like, oh, I kind of skateboards.
They're like roller blade and I'm trying to grind and
like be those guys and then broke my wrist. So

(15:08):
some roses out going to roses roses, so like a
a blade brand. I had some blades with like the
middle grind thing got up for Christmas totally. It was
just where where my right now? I was a blader? Yeah,

(15:30):
the last from we did three things? What did you do?
We played sports, We fished, and we hot Okay, it's
about all we did. We drove tractors to school. No,
you didn't. We did. We had a tractor day. Do
you got a tractor day? Driver tractors? Because everybody had
a tractatus rot right outside Charlotte. Do you need your

(15:54):
license for a tractor? Good question? Not so would like
you would actually drive the tractor? No? No, your parents
went four brothers that I lived across the street. Though
it's like, okay, four others are fine, but that's like
CV So no like Disney, No, I mean very rarely

(16:17):
watching TV, very rarely. Did we watched TV Um, the
holidays are coming up. Sure, do you guys have any
weird like holidays vidition? I need you too weird. Yeah.
My family plays spoons actually really every year, and there

(16:38):
was one last year my mom and my cousin's girlfriend
went for the same schoon and ended up taking out
my cousin and like a class of wine spilled all
over the place. They were in the corner of the room.
It would be so embarrassed that they knew I was
telling this, but they somehow found the video clip and
sent it to me. It was hilarious. Oh my god,
there was video evidence. That's wild. But I feel like

(16:58):
things get wild, like with families, like center out, that's
no whole. We had a specialist night. We played spoons
and it got really intense. I can't imagine really intense, Matt,
And really I never played spoons before. My first time
playing spoons, Matt was like over there like a lost child,
not knowing what's going on, Like you're trying to stare
at the spoons. I was like, dude, you gotta pass

(17:20):
the cards, Like, come on past the cards. Do you
have specialist Like it's a lot. We had but three
we hading community depends on the past couple of fridays,
so we haven't been able to do you guys. Yeah,
do you play like four games and some spoons? Cards? Yeah, cards,

(17:40):
card games, more cards, more cards. Yeah. Get our wives
involves something, dude, nothing but football. Yeah, that's what you
need to get away from it. When we're talking about
it long and you love football. Now you're just like
four seven. Well you got into it late, but you're

(18:01):
all about all about it, all about it mingle. It
works well because when you say, like, we have to
be here a lot, so like when your wife's know
each other, they can hang out, you're not as worried
about going getting home as fast. You know your wife's
sports at home, so like you don't feel as bad
for having a wife at home with a kid all day,

(18:21):
or a wife at home with three dogs all day.
Like just a wife at home by yourself all day,
so you don't feel as bad when they can go
do things. Yeah, you go do stuff and now you
to focus on football littlemore for this six month period
that you're here. Yeah, So it works out with when
you can have good camaraderie and the families and you guys,
don't hate each other. Yeah, we don't. We don't actually

(18:43):
hate each other. As always, thank you so much for
