Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, this is that more and you're listening to the
Dolphin UK podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
On William Steve Way around. Hello and welcome to the
(00:39):
Dolphin UK Podcast. On a victory Tuesday. I am joined
by my co host Silent Simon. How good is it
to hear the words victory in our opening for the podcast?
Speaker 1 (00:51):
It's been a long time coming, hasn't it?
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Lee?
Speaker 1 (00:54):
And I'm absolutely knackd today after staying up live watching
the whole game through to ten past four. It finished roughly,
wasn't it? But well worth it? I think?
Speaker 2 (01:04):
Yeah, So what we're talking just over twelve hours since
the game ended and we're now recording, so yeah, definitely
starting to tire today, but we will review the game
in full. We've got some news about the International Series
games coming up and we will look forward to next
week's game as Dolphins returned to hard Rock Stadium to
take on the Las Vegas Raiders. But we'll start off
(01:28):
the show we're talking about a little bit of news
from Roger Goodell in the NFL as the last International
Series games took place in Munich over the weekend between
the Panthers and the Giants side. Do you want to
hit us with some of the news from there, because
it's really interesting regarding the kind of plans of the
International Series Games going forwards.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Was interesting that when Roger Goodell had a chat with
what's the name Colleen Wolf I can't remember her name
for a moment, and she seemed quite excited by the news.
But I just want to say that Aliance Arena in
Munich was a terrific venue. It looked really good, superb venue,
especially the outside of the stadium with all the graphics. Yeah,
(02:15):
Roger Goodell taught to Colleen and pretty much confirmed that
in twenty twenty five, the UK, Spain and Germany will
continue to host International Series games. Spain is a new
venue as we know, but he also confirmed he and
I quote him, he expects to be back in Brazil
(02:37):
and Mexico, but he's also hoping to put place a
game in Ireland as well, which is a brand new venue.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
Now.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Interestingly enough, I put emphasis on the word expect because
those two venues Brazil and Mexico have yet to be confirmed,
and we know the Dolphins have been confirmed so as
a home designated home team. So if they are already
(03:04):
confirmed as a designated home team, they cannot necessarily be
placed in an area that is yet to be confirmed,
because even though they expect to be back in Brazil
and Mexico, there's obviously no guarantee. So by process of
elimination there, you have to assume that the Dolphins are
going to be in one of the guaranteed International Series markets,
as we've already said, UK, Spain or Germany. So that's
(03:30):
kind of the underlying message I took from Roger Goodell's
comments to Colleen. The Island one is interesting because I
was looking at the Global Markets program just to see
if there were any teams that had rights in Ireland,
and there are, and it's the Jags. Funnily enough, the
Jets and the Stealers all AFC teams, so obviously all
(03:51):
of them are going to have nine home games next season.
So by logic determines therefore that you would expect one
of those teams to be the home team in Ireland.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
I mean, I would be flawed if it wasn't the
Pittsburgh Steelers, because I know they have deep ties in Ireland,
so that just kind of makes it. He says they
even hosted a watch party this year, didn't they? The
Steelers that was covered by Sky Sports during one of
the weekends. I can't remember which weekend it was now,
but yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
And also just to confirm, the New England Patriots have
global home rights in Brazil along with the Dolphins. So again,
if it's not the Dolphins, you would have thought the
New England Patriots or a good candidate to go into Brazil.
Now Mexico is a different story because there are ten
different teams that have the rights, and in the AFC
you're looking at the Denver Broncos, the Houston Texans, the Chiefs,
(04:41):
the Raiders, the Dolphins, and the Steelers supported by several
teams in the NFC that are less likely the Cardinals,
the Cowboys and the forty nine Ers. So great if
they can go back to those regions. But as I say,
a lot of emphasis was I read between the lines
that the Dolphins are more than likely going to be
(05:03):
in a market that's already established. And obviously Spain is
the rumor doing the rounds at the moment.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
And Ireland is super exciting. I've been over to a
couple of the college games that have been held there.
The week before the NFL starts. I won't see Georgia
Tech against Boston and another game I can't remember which
game it was now, but the atmosphere there is amazing.
The only problem is the stadium is quite small, providing
(05:35):
it is the Aviva in Dublin, which I assume it
would be. It's a great stadium, great atmosphere, great city.
They host those college games incredibly well, so definitely well
deserved there and it'd be exciting to get there to
see a game. But yeah, like you say, it seems
like one of those other home markets would make a
(05:57):
lot of sense. Say, I'd be flawed if it wasn't
the Steelers in Ireland, but great to see them getting
an NFL game as well to a company that college game.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Yeah, we wait with interest when all the finer details
of matchups and dates get released around the time the
NFL schedule comes out. So that's something to look forward
to in the future.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
Absolutely, But that's something to look forward to in the future.
As for now, we're going to live in the present
and we're going to look back at last night's victory
against the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football. So
I want to get some of your takes here on
the game. It was a sloppy game. Really there there
(06:39):
was plenty of mistakes in the game by both teams,
but the Dolphins come out on top in the end.
What do you think of the main reasons for the
kind of loose play.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
I was giving some thought to this, and I think
you only have to look at how the respective teams
cope with third downs. The Dolphins were only six or
thirteen on third downs, so down conversions, which was forty
five percent. But it was what they were doing on
those third down conversions that made the difference. It was
highlighted on X originally by Marcel Luis Jacques who and
(07:09):
you shared this with me as well, who reported that
on the six third downs that they converted, all of
them were passes completed by Tour for nine, ten, eleven,
twenty five, thirty three and thirty six yards. Now, given
the Fross Rams pass rush we highlighted last week, I
think it was kind of inevitable. This was going to
(07:30):
cause some problems throughout the game and they were going
to be faced with plenty of third down scenarios, I felt,
And whilst the efficiency wasn't great, they did it when
it mattered most and kept the chains moving. They managed
to sustain drives and put points on the board on
every drive that ended in Rams territory. On the other hand,
though the Rams themselves excuse me, only converted three of
(07:54):
twelve third downs, which was twenty five percent, which was
surprising given the talent they have on that side of
the boards we alluded to last week. Obviously, credit for
this has to be given to the Dolphins defense, which
made us realize, if we didn't know it already, just
how important Zach Sealer is for that defensive front. They
(08:14):
double teamed him twenty five times on the night, which
amounted to fifty eight point one percent of his forty
three pass rush snaps. Yet he still managed to record
two quarterback pressures and two tackles. And in addition to that,
I think you also have to indirectly credit Sela for
the performances of Kalais Campbell and Chop Robinson two. Campbell
(08:37):
caused Stafford's interception, he recorded a sack and two pressures,
and I'll mentioned Chop again later. But in terms of
what I've just been talking about, here's the correlation you're
looking for. Three of the Dolphins' four sacks on the
night came on third downs, so Zach Sealer being double
teamed opened up a lot of scope for Campbell and
(08:58):
Chop Robinson to make him pats and they certainly did that.
But overall, I think the third Anco version was a
significant contributory factor to the Dolphins winning the game.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
I think absolutely. I just want to hit on something
that you mentioned there, and it's with tours efficiency and
converting the third downs and how he converted third downs
a lot of different distances though there those weren't all
certain shorts. Those were some big plays, especially some of
(09:29):
those in the second half. There was one a couple
with the spring to mind with the one to Elite
Washington where he was coming back to the ball, the
Odell Beckham one. You know, those were huge And I
don't know if it's something that we've always seen from
this team in the past that when they need it late,
they tend to end up hunting the ball and put
it back on the defense. But this has kind of
(09:51):
been a trend we've seen the last three weeks where
where the Dolphins offense has been able to keep putting
points up every time they've been on the field. That's
two games in the road scored on every second half
possession minus the kneel down to end the game last night,
which obviously I'm not counting. But you mentioned the pressure
there that the rounds were able to get and you
brought up last week. Do you think that was what
(10:12):
impacted that skew of all the conversions on third down
being two passes because you lose Austin Jackson in the
week and then you go up against a ferocious pass
rush and it's kind of a recipe for a little
bit of a struggle in a run game.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
They did struggle with the passer rush as well, didn't they,
Because there was a period in the second quarter where
Tour was a bit kind of bamboozled by that pass rusher,
I think, because he gave away a pick and he
got sacked, and he also there was a lost fumble
in there as well. So I think the fact that
he made those conversions to me, just showed that that
(10:53):
pass rush didn't let it impact him at all, even
though he was under a lot of pressure for a
lot of the time. And you're right as well, I
think given the lack of conversions historically they've had on
third downs, particularly the third and shorts, meant maybe perhaps
a change of approach, and the most one was the
(11:15):
best one of all. I think that where to are
looked to be yet again underpression, if you remember, he
scrambled all the way to against the grain to the
right hand side of the field and twisted his body
and just lifted it over to Moster, who broke free
down the sideline for a first down. And that was
a really super play considering he was under a lot
of duress again and so given the fact that he
(11:38):
was able to do that six times effectively just showed
that he didn't let it bother him long term. Yeah,
there was that period in the second as I mentioned,
where it did seem to bother him, but he was
able to get on with it and perhaps even learn
from the plays that the rams were throwing at him
and counteract it accordingly.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
Yeah, it felt like a maturing performance really, And I
think again, I think we've seen over the last few weeks.
But you know, somehow I hesthan to say, but I
think the better performances you've ended up coming getting beat
with walk off field goals this week. Not such a
clean performance, but still putting up that, you know, a
(12:22):
big performance in the second half when it was absolutely needed.
That play that you mentioned most in particular, you know,
that kind of goes against a lot of things, a
lot of things that the adult sorry that the media
like to try and hold against. You know, it's outside
the pocket, it's improvising on the play, it's rolling to
his right rather than to his left, it's creating something
(12:46):
completely off script. But he found multiple ways to do
that last night and get it done. There was a
play earlier in the game where he stepped up in
the pocket and you can see him know exactly where
the line of scrimmage was, start to move along the
line of scrimmage rather than cross that, so he was
able to stay active as a passer and then complete
the past downfield. So I think we're definitely seeing an
(13:08):
evolution of his game, but still bad form tackling. He
mentioned that in his pressa. But that brings us onto
kind of the overall performance. We haven't really seen perfect
(13:29):
performances on both sides of the ball yet coming in
the same game. Do you get the sense that that's
kind of coming?
Speaker 1 (13:38):
Yeah, I do. Just before I answer that question, Lee,
I was going to mention that just you were referring
to tours to his performance there and how he seemed
to be kind of maturing in certain situations. Now, somebody
in our WhatsApp group likened his overall performance to marmite,
and that was a perfect demonstration, or accurate demonstration of
(14:00):
how he was very up and down last night, but
still got the job done, didn't he, Which is, at
the end of the day, what you need.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
It's funny, isn't it, Because I thought the performance last
week was superb. We mentioned only three incompletions in the game,
but you end up walking away with adding one to
the lost column rather than the win column. Last night
not not quite the same, but you still score on
every second half position and you walk away with the victory.
(14:28):
The funny, funny game, isn't it. It's just it's never
as simple as as what you see he should be.
Speaker 1 (14:34):
Yeah, but I digress slightly. Just go back to answer
question le around performances on both sides of the ball
coming together. Yeah, you do. We get the sense it's coming. Yeah,
I think we do. I mean early in the season
the defense were playing really well and keeping us in
games week after week, and the two games prior to
last night, however, it was the offense who finally stepped
(14:56):
up to perform when Tour returned, whilst the defense seemed
to be catching its breath after a first start to
the season. If you were measuring the performances of those
units each week, you wouldn't be wrong to identify that
one always seems to outperform the other. But last night,
for arguably the first time this season, and even though
(15:16):
the defense played really well and with the superior unit,
we saw that gap closing. I think and it's only
a matter of time before both the offense and the
defense both play to their potential in the same game.
And I think they've got a good chance of doing
that in the next game against the Raiders, as we'll
come on to in our preview of that game later
on in the show. But it's like, you see what
(15:40):
I mean, Lee, Week after week, one unit has been performing,
the other one hasn't. But now I feel as though
they're getting some momentum on offense and they're going to
be performing on a par with the way the defense
has been performing generally for the season to date.
Speaker 2 (15:57):
Yeah, I thought last night, say, even though the defense
played probably better overall than the offense, I thought they
did do a pretty good job of complimenting each other
and to have mentioned this in his postgame presser and
his interview on the field. You know, after the turnover,
(16:17):
Dolphins defense were able to get turnover back. They were
able to limit the rams off the intercept, sorry off
the fumble as well to three points. You know, it
was closer to complimentary football. Like you say, it looks
like it feels like we're heading towards that performance where
hopefully they can put both together in the same game.
Speaker 1 (16:41):
Okay, Lee, you know what we like to do after
a win, and we haven't done it for several weeks.
Do you fancy talking us through some Finns facts.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
Absolutely, let's talk through some Finn's facts. And we can
talk through the one that we avoided last week, right
because we spoke about it the last few weeks and
we said we were going to avoid it.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
Although do we want to avoid it again because we're
on a roll now, do we want to avoid it again?
Speaker 2 (17:10):
We can talk about we can talk about the stat
that they achieved, not about the upcoming one.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
Yeah, okay, good, and now I.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
Need to find it in my document to make sure
that I get it right.
Speaker 1 (17:24):
We can find that one.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
It's in there somewhere, so we'll get to it in
a minute. Miami earned its third win of the season
with the twenty three to fifteen victory over the Rounds
at Sofi Stadium. The performance is the dolphins first Monday
night football win since defeating New Orleans twenty to three
weeks sixteen. It was a twenty twenty one season. Miami
improves to forty four and forty five, which marks the
(17:49):
tenth time the Dolphins have won on the road on
Monday night football. Just sorry, just getting away from this quickly.
How did you enjoy stay to watch it? I know
it's it's not usually your way of watching those primetime games.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
No, I found it fine. The wife was away on business,
so it was one less person to disturb. The dog
stayed asleep. My daughter's bedroom is not near the lounge,
so the TV wasn't going to impact her. I did
offer it to Danny to sit and say, look, do
you want to get up and listen watch it with me?
But he chose not to because it's a school night
(18:29):
and he stayed asleep. So for me it was okay.
It was and it went really quickly, so I didn't
have any problems in having the TV on at all.
It didn't disturb anyone, which is normally one of the
reasons why I don't watch it late because people tend
to get disturbed.
Speaker 2 (18:45):
So staying up and watching it, you saw the Dolphins
hold the Rams to the zero touchdowns, and that included
the Rams having three positions and went into the Dolphins
red zone. It's the first time the Dolphins have held
their opponents without a touchdown since Week fifteen of the
twenty twenty three season, which is a thirty to nothing
(19:06):
shout out over the Jets. And I know not got
to it yet in our document, but they mentioned in
the broadcast only the second time that Matthew Stazard has
been held without a touchdown as a Rams player, and
I think that's a huge stat really, that's a huge
fact because Matthew Stafford is one of those players that
(19:26):
will likely end up in the Hall of Fame. You know,
has been incredible throughout his entire career. So to hold
him without a touchdown, I really think is a testament
to the defense and how far Coach Weaver and that
unit have come since the start of the season, and
how they continue to improve. So, do you want to
give us some stats from last night's game? Facts?
Speaker 1 (19:47):
I do want to mention actually that the Dolphins and
their thirteenth winn against the Rams in franchise history, improving
the team's winning percentage in the series to eighty six
point seven percent. And that is actually, if there's a
bogie team that the Dolphins that play against the Dolphins,
it is the Rams, because that is the highest winning
(20:08):
percentage versus any opponent in Dolphins history, a winning percentage
of eighty six point seven against the Rams. Among all
series with at least fifteen games played, Miami's thirteen and
two record over the Rams is the second highest among
any matchup in NFL history. It's only beaten by the
(20:30):
Atlanta Falcons, losing eighty six point eight percent of the
time to the Pittsburgh Steelers, who've got a sixteen wins,
two losses and one tie. So, if ever there is
a team who does a job over their opponent time
and time again, is the Dolphins over the Rams. And
being a Forest fan, it's always nice to know that
(20:50):
the Rams are frequently defeated against your team. Did you know, Lee,
it's been over one thousand days since Derby have scored
against Forrest in the English leagues, so I just thought
of Rams, just thought i'd throw that one in there. So, yeah,
some always on the back of a win. There's some
(21:11):
good stats, aren't there around individual and player performances. I
know we mentioned about two twenty twenty eight didn't seem spectacular,
but efficient, and he has the highest completion percentage in
the NFL minimum fifty attempts already at seventy two point four.
So long may that continue?
Speaker 2 (21:33):
Absolutely? And do you want to share the stat that
we were hiding last week?
Speaker 1 (21:37):
Yeah, so we were hiding and we'd mentioned it on
a few shows previously. We'd said that the next time
the Dolphins win would be their four hundred and ninety
ninth regular season victory, and we didn't mention it last
week because we didn't want to jinx it. And of
course they go they went ahead and won. So they've
now clinched their four hundred and ninety ninth regular season victory.
And we're going to draw a line right now under
(21:58):
that one, aren't Well, you're not mentioned what could happen
next week?
Speaker 2 (22:02):
Absolutely? And with that being said, should we get onto
something else that we haven't done in a few weeks
and handouts of game balls.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
Yeah, why not? So do you want me to go
first or do you want to go Firstly?
Speaker 2 (22:11):
Here you go first.
Speaker 1 (22:13):
So I mentioned in the look back at the Rams
game that Chop Robinson had a decent game and he
did certainly deserve some recognition for his team high five pressures,
which tied a season high to go along with his sack.
It was on thirty past rush past rush snaps, so
we had a sixteen point seven percent pressure eight and
(22:36):
interestingly four pressures came against strike tackled Joe Noteboom, who
was playing in his first game since Week one. So
great performance by Chop Robinson. He's we can see that
development now, can't we? Lee? And I don't know if
you've seen on social media his chop celebration after the sack,
and you can see Jevon Holland in the background some
(22:58):
twenty or thirty yards away exactly mirroring his chop celebration,
which I thought was quite a good camera shot, So
well done. Whoever caught that one? But yeah, mind game
ball was Chop Robinson? Who have you gone for league
this week?
Speaker 2 (23:12):
So I thought just to keep it interesting that I
would pick another rookie, and I thought there was a
lot of performances at Deserve game Balls last night. So
I'm going to do some honorable mentions post this, but
I wanted to give it to Malie Washington, and that's
going to sound maybe a little bit crazy because one
catch and one rush on the game, but they both
felt like incredibly important ones. Also, they felt it felt
(23:34):
like he was a little more integrated into what was
going on, which I felt was a huge week for
Milie Washington. Bearing in mind with a Cracraft was acted
activated off injured reserve, and we saw Odell getting more
in the game. You know, it might have looked like
a position where it'd be hard for him to get involved,
but I think with two sorry, with Tyreek having the
(23:58):
knocked to his wrist and sitting out maybe a few
more players last night than we've seen typically, that he
was able to get in there. And I thought his
contributions were important while he was in the game.
Speaker 1 (24:09):
You mentioned River Craycraft. Of course he had that all
important block, didn't he on that touchdown run which was
a really significant contribution. I mean, he only played four
snaps in total, dig Craig Craft, but you can already
see the impact he's having on the offense in contributing
towards that touchdown.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
Absolutely. I think that's you know, when when you see
on social media media people talking about how they want
to see more Jalen right and they want to see
more Millie Washington, it's when you start doing things at
the level that River Craycraft does when it comes to
blocking and knowing your assignment and how important that is
(24:47):
in the grand scheme of things. And I thought there
was some really good blocks last night. Devon h Chan
had one on that big John hu Smith run that
fell just short at the end zone, where you know,
we've seen in the past less disciplined teams and less
disciplined blockers get called for holding and really set the
team back on big plays. But they are blocking at
(25:10):
a really high level. But yeah, I also wanted to
just give some monerable mentions because I thought the return
of Javon Holland and Zach Sealer you know, was huge
last night for the defense. I thought they looked far
more like themselves than they had the last couple of weeks.
About Zach's either, especially like you said, his performance the
way it impacts everybody else. Claires Cavill still continues to
(25:32):
be a Monstein and it's just so much fun to
watch him play. And I also I thought Jaalen Model
got way more involved. I know he had to drop early,
but he seemed to be getting a lot more involved
in the game and it seemed to almost looked like
he was having more fun doing it as well, if
that makes sense.
Speaker 1 (25:52):
So yeah, Kenn Waddell and Tyrek Hill played eight seven
percent of the snaps respectively, so heavily involved in the
game plan. Jalen Wright actually out snapped running most this week,
nine to eight, so that was an interesting turn of events.
People have been saying they want to see more of
Jalen Wright, and whilst he didn't get a huge amount
(26:14):
of snaps in the overall scheme of things, he did
out snap running most are which I thought was an
interesting observation.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
Absolutely, But that brings us on to half time of
the show, and that brings us to our trivia and Simon,
you posed a puzzler last week. Would you like to
give us the answer?
Speaker 1 (26:41):
Yes, So just to remind everyone the question we posed
last week, which is more the Dolphins' largest margin of
victory or their largest margin of defeat. And I think
a lot of those who would have tried to work
out the answer would probably have guessed the largest margin
of defeat. I suspect you did last week, didn't you
(27:01):
when you were trying to work it out?
Speaker 2 (27:02):
Is that?
Speaker 1 (27:03):
Is that the game that you would have chosen as
the largest margin of defeat the sixty two to seven
playoff defeat at Jacksonville. Yes, yes it was, which was
Dan Marino's last ever game, so margin of fifty five points. Interestingly,
the largest margin of victory is not the game against
the Broncos, which was fifty points, but it was in
(27:25):
fact fifty two points against the New England Patriots in
the Perfect Season on the twelfth of November nineteen seventy two.
So the lar largest margin of defeat is greater at
fifty five than the largest margin of victory at fifty two.
Shout out to Simon Dixon, who actually got in touch
by TikTok with the right answer. So, well, I'm Simon,
(27:48):
Well I want to give do you want to give
us this week's question?
Speaker 2 (27:51):
Then?
Speaker 1 (27:51):
Lee pose one.
Speaker 2 (27:52):
Absolutely, So we've got a new one for this week,
and the question is how many games have the Dolphins
won in overtime in their history? And I believe this
is up to last season, although I don't think we've
got any overtime games issue correct, Yeah, so far, so
it's up to this point. Hopefully next week the game
doesn't go so overtime. But yeah, how many games how
(28:13):
the Dolphins won in overtime in their history?
Speaker 1 (28:16):
So you can see the answer league in the overall
scheme of the franchise. Comparing that number you can see
to the history of the franchise. It's probably a fairly
low number, isn't it.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
Yeah, based on the Finns fact that we were just
going with, yeah, I would have thought there would be
maybe a few more than that.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
No. Interesting. Interestingly, their last overtime performance, the last time
they played in overtime was on September the twenty sixth,
twenty twenty one, so three years ago. They played in
the last overtime game, I think, and that was in
Las Vegas against the Raiders when the Raiders won it
(28:59):
with a few goal.
Speaker 2 (29:01):
They got the face mask, wasn't it? And the Fitzpatrick
face mask?
Speaker 1 (29:05):
And was it that game? Didn't they win that game?
Speaker 2 (29:07):
Though?
Speaker 1 (29:07):
The face mask game? Was that another Raiders game? Okay,
I can't remember, so anyway, it's three years ago. This one.
I know the Raiders got two field goals in overtime.
I had to win that one. The Dolphins could only
manage one field goal. But would you be able to
guests Lee and I'm going to put you on the spot.
When was their last victory in overtime last And it
(29:40):
was a really good game as well?
Speaker 2 (29:42):
Was it was it Buffalo on the Road? No, There's
two games that sprung to mind, because I know it
was one late there was a late kicking Buffalo on
the road a number of years ago. And there was
also was was there a did the longest game ever
go to it was the longest game over that game
(30:04):
against the Titans to open up the season. Did that
go to overtime?
Speaker 1 (30:07):
No? But it's to give you a big clue here,
I think it's the same season. I think.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
Okay, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (30:14):
So December twenty second, twenty nineteen, so coming up for
five years ago, was the last time the Dolphins won
an overtime game Against the Bengals thirty eight thirty five,
Jason Sanders hit a long field goal as time expired
in overtime to win the game thirty eight to thirty five.
(30:36):
And it was a really good game because the Dolphins
streaked out to a big lead only to be outscored
twenty three to seven in the fourth quarter through and
Andy Dalton comeback by the Bengals. And it was a
really good game if I remember rightly. And yeah, thankfully
the Dolphins prevailed in overtime with the field goal as
time expired. So five years ago, that was the last
(30:58):
time the Dolphins won in over time interest context.
Speaker 2 (31:04):
Yeah, let's hope again. We're not hoping for overtime again
anytime soon. We're hoping to get it done in regulation.
But with that being said, do you want to take
us onto the Pickham League update?
Speaker 1 (31:18):
Indeed, so all sport we've lost to the team. Unfortunately,
team got ejected from the league having had three consecutive
blank weeks, so he's now gone, which means all sport
cards are now rooted to the bottom. I suspect they
may be on the verge of elimination as well, having
gone two blank weeks. Now they're rooted at the bottom.
On sixty seven, Blueie Co now has got a big
(31:41):
lead over overall sport cards. He got a top highest
league score of thirteen predictions this week, right, so good
score for him. He's on seventy nine. Brismark fifty nine
is on eighty and you scored really well this week
league with eighty four, and Miami five one drops into
(32:02):
the bottom five having only scored seven this week. At
the top, Stokey Dolphan is there on one hundred and two,
level with myself also one hundred and two. Bilto has
got nine now ray Bots has dropped into joint first place.
Now he's no longer the outright leader, having only got
(32:23):
nine correct answers this week one hundred and nine as
his seventy two equals Perfection also on one hundred and
nine having got ten this week. But I don't know
whether you check the sleeper at Lee. They produce a
report now of just some little stats. We like our
stats around movers and losers in terms of how far
(32:44):
you go up and down the table and which teams
were popular. But interestingly, of all the predictions, the Titans
were the least picked by only four percent of the pool,
and they played the Chargers away and the Ravens were
the most picked. Hundred percent of the pool, so everybody
picked the Ravens to win their matchup. But it does
(33:05):
give you if you look at the report, it gives
you bluey Co for instance, as I said, was the
high score with thirteen, and one of the reasons for
that is that he picked five underdogs who will won.
So it's a nice little report there.
Speaker 2 (33:19):
And blue Coat, I hope you are a betting fan
because if you're betting underdogs like that, then there's might
be made.
Speaker 1 (33:30):
So yeah, Prediction League update and we'll look forward to
to the end now and can can anyone catch rabots?
Seventy nine and seventy two equals perfection. We shall see.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
There's not a lot of points in it. There is
enough games for it to happen be interesting, but seventy
two equals perfection. Sitting on top that is the right
name for someone sitting above a pick them leave right?
Speaker 1 (33:53):
Yeah, absolutely absolutely.
Speaker 2 (33:56):
With that, Stad, we move on to the state of
the division before you get into the second half of
the show.
Speaker 1 (34:00):
Yeah, why not shall I take talty three where each
team in the FC East currently sits.
Speaker 2 (34:05):
Let's it talk us through it.
Speaker 1 (34:06):
Yeah, the Bills are eight and two, having won thirty
to twenty Indianapolis. The Jets are have dropped to three
and seven after losing six thirty one to the Arizona Cardinals,
and New England also traveled away from home to play
the Bears, but they won nineteen to three, so great
(34:27):
victory for the Patriots, who now are also level with
the Jets and the Dolphins at three wins a piece.
The Bills play a grudge game against the Kansas unbeaten
Kansas City Chiefs in Buffalo next week. Interestingly, last week
all the FC teams were away and next week they're
(34:47):
all at home, with the Jets playing the Colts and
the Patriots playing the Rams, and of course the Dolphins
played the Raiders, so great great matchup Biels Chiefs there
and actually, Lee, I was managed to cut. I don't
know if you did, but I managed to catch the
last kick of the Broncos Chiefs game. And I was
praying for that kick to go through because it would
(35:08):
have meant the Champagne corks would be popping again for
that nineteen seventy two team. But it's just unbelievable with
the Chiefs havn't blocked that they get all the luck
don't they the Chiefs, But tricky game for them at Buffalo.
And I think the Bills, the way they're playing and
the Chiefs aren't playing particularly well, I think the Bills
could do them.
Speaker 2 (35:27):
It's funny, isn't it, Because the Chiefs don't feel like
they're playing that well, but they're no, no, no, So I mean,
like we said earlier, the Dolphins came off the back
of playing two great offensive performance and lose the walk
off field goals, play a more of a sputtering game
in the first half on on offense, and come over
with a victory on the road. The Chiefs don't look
like they're playing their best football and somehow nine and
(35:48):
I but I'd still like to see them beat the Bills,
just just for the fun of it, to be honest.
Speaker 1 (35:55):
And Denver Broncos still have the seventh seed, don't they?
In THEFC belie at the moment with a five and
five record, which means the Dolphins are now only two
games behind them.
Speaker 2 (36:06):
Yeah, I think they're officially one and a half games
back from the playoff spots. So everything's still well ahead
of the Dolphins.
Speaker 1 (36:14):
It's this week, it is, and talking to this week
they're playing the two and seven Raiders, who are coming
off a week ten by so that is the matchup
which we're looking forward to this coming weekend. And of
course you are traveling to Miami this weekend, aren't you.
Speaker 2 (36:31):
Absolutely I am. I'm looking forward to it. It'll be
the first time I've traveled out with my dad for
a long time, so me and my dad are going
to watch the game on Sunday, So excited for that.
My dad took me to my first Dolphins game back
in two thousand and five, so be cool to go
and see it with him.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
Are you going to be doing anything before the game?
Any tailgating or youre going to show him around the
stadium and the surrounding Gary or any good plans.
Speaker 2 (36:59):
So I'm definitely going to show around because he hasn't
been since any of the renovations. Last time he would
have been. Actually the last game he went to was
against the Raiders, which is a few years after the
first time we went, but that was when there was
still no roof on the stadium, so there's a lot
of changes. So definitely going to go and take it
all in, and I think we might try and go
(37:19):
on the gondolas because I still haven't done that, and
I'm determined to do to do that this time around.
So yeah, definitely get some stuff done. It should be
fairly easy because we fly our Saturday, so we're definitely
going to be wide awake early I think the Sunday.
But yeah, definitely looking forward to it.
Speaker 1 (37:39):
Are you flying into Miami then, and or you got
have you got some a culmination booked in Orlando as well?
Speaker 2 (37:45):
Yeah, so I'm actually I'm flying into Miami Saturday, staying
in Miami for three days, and then traveling to Orlando
and staying there for the rest of our trip. But
the following Sunday, I'm going to drive to the in
the morning from Orlando with.
Speaker 1 (38:02):
Your dad again.
Speaker 2 (38:03):
Nope, we're going to go on my own this time
because hopefully I will be covering that game against the Patriots,
so it'll be just me and Yeah, so early morning
road trip for me down from Orlando. Looking forward to it.
Actually did a bit of a different experience. I think,
rather than waking up on the beach, I'm going to
(38:24):
be up early and on the road and travel into
the game. So yeah, looking forward to it.
Speaker 1 (38:29):
I think my dog also is jealously because he's barking
in the background. You can probably hear him, but yeah,
I think he wants to come with you, and at
the moment, I quite happily send him because he's barking
at a load of fireworks, which you believe that are
going on off outside, so that's not even firework night anymore.
I don't know why they go off.
Speaker 2 (38:47):
They're probably just going off because the Dolphins won the time.
Speaker 1 (38:50):
Probably.
Speaker 2 (38:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (38:51):
Anyway, onto the Radies game this coming weekend. Overall ranked
twenty ninth, rushing rank on offense, thirty second, passing rank
sort of middle of the pack, eighteenth on defense. Their
overall rank is fifteenth, their rushing rank is seventeenth, and
they're passing rank is eleventh. So we saidly, they're two
(39:12):
and seven coming off there bye, But what threats do
the Raiders pose this week for the Dolphins.
Speaker 2 (39:18):
I'm a little bit worried that the Raiders are one
of those teams that although they're two and seven and
they seem to be somewhat a little out of sorts
in regards to they've traded away star receiver Deavonte Adams
a few weeks back. They now fired Luke Getzee is
the offensive coordinator there, that they're a team that has
(39:38):
everything to prove and with the change of offensive staff,
they're going to be looking to make that statement coming
out of the bye. You know, you have a couple
of weeks extra, sorry, a couple of extra days there
to prepare, and it feels like they're going to come
out and want to try and make a statement. There's
gonna be a lot of people there playing for jobs
because we've seen this before all the Raiders, they seem
(40:01):
to just be in that state of flux all the time.
I think last time they came to Miami they made
a quarterback switch for that game as well. I believe
Aiden mc cardell started his first game against the Dolphins
on the road. So, you know, I think they're trying
to get out of that cycle and there's could be
a lot of people there trying to prove that they're
the right guys to get that done and you know,
(40:23):
trying to secure long term jobs. So with that being said,
on offense, I think also you have this scary part
of the defense with a player like Max Crosby coming
to town and we've seen how disruptive that he can
be in any situation. He comes in with six and
a half sacks, which I think is good for twelve
in the NFL right now, and he's doing that without
(40:46):
having the addition of free agents signing Christian Wilkins, who
you know, the Raiders went out and paid a lot
of money to get in. He's obviously unfortunately injured. We
don't like to see that for anyone, obviously, especially someone
that you know gave so much of the organization in
his time with us. But that doesn't make match cross
me les dangerous. And he's still finding a way to
(41:07):
get stuff done. So this is definitely some you know,
another way that the Raiders pose a threat, especially with
some offensive line changes coming for the Dolphins with Austin
Jackson going to ir and then some changes in the
lineup yesterday with some players getting knocked up. So we
don't know the states of any of those players obviously,
(41:27):
you know, twelve hours, thirteen hours and move from the game.
But that obviously it has to be a point of
concern heading into a game against Raiders, because he's going
to find a way to get the job done, regardless
of how good the overall team and performances.
Speaker 1 (41:42):
I'm going to throw this question in their league because
it's just occurred to me that the Dolphins are having
a relative or a much shorter week, having traveled over
to the West Coast and on a Monday night. The
Raiders coming off of buy however, they're traveling from west
to each east, which is mostly more difficult to do.
Do you see any advantage for the Raiders they're having
(42:04):
come off that by or do you see that negated
by the fact that they're traveling from the west to
the East coast.
Speaker 2 (42:10):
We know how much West Coast teams struggle coming across
to the East, and especially to the Dolphins. I think
we've seen that hard Rock Stadium really play havoc with
teams from the West Coast coming over. So this game
still resides in the early slot, like sometimes when they
have a West Coast team come over, they try and
move it into the four o'clock wind or the nine
o'clock slot as it is here in the UK. So
(42:34):
I don't know if it maybe in theory, would even
it out slightly having it in the early slot traveling
from the West Coast, but then also having the Dolphins
coming back on short week, But I think that's kind
of negated then by the fact that the Dolphins are
coming back off a win, and with the way the
season's going that that should have you pretty amped and
ready to go, I think heading into your first home
(42:56):
game in a few weeks.
Speaker 1 (42:58):
We talked about it a bit about this earlier, but
do you think this is the game where we see
both sides of the ball pull their weight?
Speaker 2 (43:05):
Yeah, I think there's a good opportunity for it this week.
You mentioned it earlier that you know, we hadn't seen
it yet and that you thought that there was a
chance this week. You know, you look at the offense
ranking twenty ninth overall, thirty second against against the run, sorry,
thirty second rushing rank overall, and eighteenth passing. You know,
this is the kind of offense that the defense have
(43:27):
to be looking their lips at because there's going to
be opportunities here to keep the Raiders' offense off the field.
And I think I'm going to come on to it
a little bit in my path to victory, but I
think there's a, you know, a case to say that
they're going to have to do that to keep the
Raiders down. But on defense, the Raiders defense is better
than than the defense that you just faced. In the RAMS.
(43:50):
It ranks better in every category, So we're going to
need the offense to be on point. But I think
we've seen this offense in some way improve every time
over the last few weeks that they've played, so, you know,
we want to see that trend continue. But there's no
reason to think that they're coming home that they can't
(44:11):
come in on a bit of a high and really
trying to kind of put that performance that we're waiting
to see, because I don't think we've seen that through
dolphin esque performance yet. We've seen some good performances, but
I don't think we've seen the you know, the kind
of performances that we were thinking of heading into the season.
Speaker 1 (44:29):
You mentioned that past the victory. That's a nice little
segue into that league. Do you want to give us
your path to victories? Perhaps? Maybe should we start on
defense to begin with, and then absolutely both give our
paths to victory on offense?
Speaker 2 (44:42):
Absolutely, So, I mean this is where I was getting
at talking about the Raiders. I think this is an
opportunity for the Dolphins defense to to set out a
stall early and say you might have come off a by.
You might have made a offensive coordinator, but nothing's changed.
(45:02):
Everything's going to stay the same. We see a lot
of teams get a boost when they make a change
at quarterback or sorry app or a coordinator or at
the head coach position, but we need to make sure
that we don't let them get that this week. They
can do that down the road against somebody else. That's great,
but it feels like there's an opportunity here to come out,
(45:23):
set stall early and continue to get some good starts.
I think the Dolphins, especially over the last few weeks,
it's not unusual to see a big play early from
Zack Sealer, often Kalaires Campbell. So often in those in
that first drive, you get a big player, you know,
a big play for a loss out. Players like Josh
Allen are able to overcome that because they're going to
(45:45):
play their game. The garden them issues a slightly different proposition,
and I know when he catches, you know, when he catches,
he can really get going. But there's also it works
in reverse for him as well. There's a reason that
he's a sort of called there's been on multiple teams,
doesn't really stick as a starter. I mean even The
Raiders themselves have started multiple quarterbacks this season for that
(46:08):
exact reason. So I think this is one of those
cases where you want to get on them early and
just say, hey, not this week. It's not happening for me.
Speaker 1 (46:17):
On defense, I think you must be looking to take
away their best weapon, which is Brock Bauers. He's having
a really good rookie season. He's only scored two tds,
but he appears to be their main receiver, getting targeted
frequently in the passing game. In all but two games
this season, he's had a minimum of five catches, so
he's been really, really steady in that offense. They don't
(46:40):
appear to have any other elite weapons. Alexander Mattison is
a journey running back who came over from the Vikings
in free agency, only has one hundred, three hundred and
one yards rushing on the season. There's another journeyman at
quarterback in Garda Minshew, who shouldn't you would have thought
post too many problems for the Dolphins d on paper.
(47:02):
So you take away their best weapon, which is Brop Bowers,
and I think it leaves your defense in a really
good spot to have a good performance.
Speaker 2 (47:14):
So that brings us onto the offense, and I think
my path of victory for the Dolphins offense is to
kind of continue what they're doing, which is evolving each
week and kind of maturing into these performances where they
can do it on the ground, they can do it
in the air. And I think the element that we
need to see come forward is we need to see
(47:35):
some more of that deep ball that we haven't seen yet.
Not that you want to rely on it, you don't
want to. I think that's where that you know, looking back,
we can say the team maybe came unstuck last night.
Sorry last season where it was all fireworks every week
and when you weren't able to do that, you struggled
to find a way to win. So I'm loving the
balanced offense. I have said it each of the last
(47:57):
few weeks and I'm going to continue to say it
because I enjoy watching it that if something's not working,
you're able to go the other direction. Last night, you
were trying to keep keep on track with the run game,
but then if it was a third down, we saw
the two was able to bail the bail the offense
out and keep the chains moving. So that's huge. But
it feels like this would be a really good week
(48:17):
to try and get some of the the offense stretched
down the field a little bit. Doesn't all have to
be home run balls, but it feels like there's an
opportunity here to do that while staying a little bit
more balanced. And I'd like to see the return of
Raheem to the running game as well. It feels like
there was maybe a little bit down in production an opportunity. Obviously,
(48:45):
he didn't run the ball last night at all based
on the ball security issues from the week before, and
that's just part of the part of the process. So
I'm excited to see him get back with some fresh
legs after having an easier evening than usual for him.
Speaker 1 (49:00):
I just wonder if that was kind of you mentioned
that they're kind of related to the fact that he
was pretty much running to the ground towards the end
of last season, So I wondered if if his lack
of snaps last night was also down to looking at
the long term picture and making sure they get that
some rotation in there into that role so that they're
(49:21):
not all wound down come the end of the season,
because we saw how badly it impacted them last year,
so I did wonder if that was another reason why
he was kind of lower in the rotation order than normal.
Speaker 2 (49:32):
I wonder if it was a good coaching opportunity to
achieve both things with the with the one kind of action,
which was to give him less work in the run game.
But like you say, was punishment is the wrong word,
but do you know me? And also that reminded that
we need to up for security but also keeping him
(49:54):
fresh for the you know, I think it's probably a
good balance of both.
Speaker 1 (49:58):
You mentioned fumbles there that Raheem Moster has unfortunately had
over the last couple of weeks, obviously not including last night.
But it just goes to show that the importance of
not making stupid mistakes, and that for me is a
key to a part of the victory this week. Now,
on paper, they're clearly more talented than the Raiders, and
on a normal day they should win this game, all
(50:21):
things being equal. So it's all about avoiding the mental mistakes,
putting them in third and long situations, don't turn the
ball over, make the most of scoring opportunities, just to
get the fundamentals right. Really, if they can all do
all of those things, I don't think they need necessarily
need to be explosive on either in the past of
the game or the running game. I think the fact
(50:43):
that they're clicking now in both facets of the game
should mean that the offense would effectively run itself in
the absence of any particular errors. And I think if
they can avoid those silly errors, then they should be
able to put up a good performance and enough to
win the game.
Speaker 2 (51:03):
Absolutely, so we hope that all of our past victory
have followed because we obviously know how to win football games.
Who wouldn't trust us for for giving coaching advice. But
with that being said, Zi, can you give us your
best weather man impersonation and give us weather for Sunday's game.
Speaker 1 (51:21):
I don't know about an impersonation, and I can certainly
can't do. Michael Fish, You'll be pleased to know there
is no rain forecast. Scatter clouds. Seventy six degrees fahrenheit
is the current forecast for Miami. So, but we all
know scatter clouds doesn't necessarily mean anything when it comes
to Miami weather, does it. Lee? So, just I know
(51:44):
you've spent a couple of games this season already in
the air conditioned area of the press box, but it's
so it's nice for you to experience the humidity and
the heat for a change. And I hope your dad
copes with it as.
Speaker 2 (51:57):
Well, absolutely, and hopefully the Raiders are not coping so
well in those black jerseys on the road. Where can
we watch the game?
Speaker 1 (52:07):
Well, you're going to be watching it at hard Rock Stadium,
Lucky Chap, so I hope you have a great time.
The rest of us were going to have to put
up with probably game pass as normal. I don't see
why at the moment whether this game's going to be
featured on Sky Sports. I suspect it probably isn't, given
the Bills and the Chiefs are playing, and I assume
(52:28):
they're playing in the early kickoff, although I haven't got
the schedule in front of me, so I can't absolutely
confirm that. But you would have thought this is a
class then they're going to show the Bills Chiefs, and
of course that's the obvious game.
Speaker 2 (52:38):
So Game Bills this week, Bill's chief is a nine
to twenty five kickoff, so that plays perfectly into that
being in the second window. And shall we have some
prediction time for the early slot just for some fun.
So these are the games you have to pick from.
Which will be the sky Gamer week Packers at the Bears,
(53:03):
Jags at the Lions, Raiders at the Dolphins, Rams at
the Patriots, Browns at the Saints.
Speaker 1 (53:11):
Oh fabulous selection, there isn't it. Did you say Packers Bears?
Speaker 2 (53:16):
Packers Bears?
Speaker 1 (53:17):
Yeah, yeah, I'm going to go for that one. Given
the rivalry between those two teams, I think, Yeah, that's
what I can see sky Sports going for traditional rivalries
this week.
Speaker 2 (53:27):
Yeah, six and three plays four and five kind of
makes sense as well, because you've got the two and
eight Jags at the eight and one Lions, two and
seven Raiders at the three and six Dolphins, four and
five Rounds at the three and seven Patriots, and the
two and seven Browns at the three and seven Saints.
So that, yeah, I mean that kind of makes a
lot of sense, although on paper, I suppose the Raiders
(53:48):
Dolphins matchup is kind of similar in record.
Speaker 1 (53:56):
Right, that's coming to the end of the show. League
good episode this week, any five thoughts before we sign
off for another one?
Speaker 2 (54:02):
Yeah, let's get another win because it's fun to talk
about victories and give out game balls in our postgame shows.
Speaker 1 (54:09):
Yeah, talking of victories. Just want to flag a couple
of things for the listeners if you can get a
chance to check out the Brazilian commentary of Tyreek Hill's
touchdown against the Rams, because in traditional Brazilian commentary style,
it is certainly worth a listen given the excitement it generates.
And also you may have noticed no you mentioned it
(54:32):
last week, the Dolphins UK social media team collaborated with Fabio,
a London based Dolphins fan, this week to follow him
for a day and just to share with everybody his
game day routine both throughout the day and during the
game itself. So if you get a chance to check
that out on Instagram on the Dolphins UK channel, then
(54:53):
please do so. Absolutely you're going to Miami. I'm going
to bed to get some shut eye. The listeners are
going to get go and celebrate a victory over the
Rams and until next time, we shall speak to you
again real soon.
Speaker 2 (55:20):
M
