Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
Michael Bumpus.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Playfake, go to roll right, jumps.

Speaker 3 (00:06):
It off into the right, flat to Michael Bumpers, who
bounces off of one tackler, gets inside the forty down
of the forty five yard line.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Powered by Seahawks dot Com.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
Matt pumpfakes looking at the gold line. He throws it
into the end zone.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Touchdown Seahawks.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
It's Michael Bumpers with a diving catching the end zone.
A ten yard touchdown reception for Bumpers, and the kid
out of Washington State has found himself.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
A place on this team. Now, here's your host, Nasa Chopie.
Welcome into another edition of Hawk Talk.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Unfortunately, the Seahawks on the losing end on Sunday Night Football,
falling to the Packers thirty to thirteen at Loominfield. We're
broadcasting from the Seahawks Podcast Studio, presented by Sony, the
official partner of the Seattle Seahawks.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Bumping Yeah, man, no stuff.

Speaker 4 (00:52):
Yeah, I was stuff. It was so tough. I convinced
myself to score was thirty to ten. For like two
segments in the postgame show, you did that. He was
third team, and the Packers made they was ready to
go from jump. They wasted no time. Yeah, no, you're right.
I mean the Packers are a good football team. I
think the Seahawks obviously didn't play their best football game
on Sunday night.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
And it's tough in this league.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
There's a lot of good teams and you got to
come with it every Sunday, and unfortunately Seahawks feut of
the Packers.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
Let's get right into it.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
What had happened, See, what had happened was what had
happened at first was what had happened was on Hawk Talk.
So yesterday was the first time the Seahawks had hosted
a game on Sunday night football in front of fans
since twenty nineteen, which is wild to me. Obviously, I
believe there was a couple I know, the Patriots game
in twenty twenty, you know, other than staff members, me

(01:40):
and you and about you know, the people were in there.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
For that squat and that one. Yeah, but that was
a good one.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
So we're definitely hoping for some of that, you know,
magic and prime time under the lights. Unfortunately, that was
not the case, and the game to start well for
the Seahawks right off top, it was tough for them
to start.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
The Packers come out of the gate hot.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
They take the opening kickoff back about thirty nine yards,
set them right up. Two plays later, ereequ will and
gets called for unecessary rough this penalty after a hit
on Jordan Love.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Then Josh Jacobs did the rest. This was a drive
about Josh Jacobs.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
He had nine touches capped off a ten play sixty
three yard drive with a one yard touchdown that made
the score seven zero.

Speaker 4 (02:14):
Yeah, nine out of ten touches in that drive. They
set the tone and say, look, this is our best player.
You're gonna have to try to stop him. On the
next drive. After finding Dk for a fifteen yard game
on first down, the Hawks will be forced to punt
three plays later. That was a nice dime over the
top and the honey hill shot that Genol threw man
DK had a couple of big catches. The Packers would
answer right back with another long drive. They go eight

(02:34):
plays eighty yards and he with a thirteen yard touchdown
of Romeo Dobbs that made the score fourteen zero Green Bay.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
But then the Hawks got on the board.

Speaker 4 (02:42):
Their next drive they find jsm again, jays In doing
what he does, and then a sixteen yard run by
Charbonne that set up a field goal and made the
score fourteen to three.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Green Bay.

Speaker 4 (02:52):
You're feeling okay at this point, you know, you go,
Green Bay gets the ball twice, they put up fourteen.
You get the ball and you're thinking, all right, just
put something on those score and you should be fine.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
No, and you're You're absolutely right. You definitely didn't feel
like the game was out of reach by any point.
You're like, Okay, the defense is going to get it
figured out, and they actually did. After that fourteen to
three score, the Packers would get points on their next drive,
once again, going eight plays fifty one yards anywhere the
Brandon McManus field goal that made the score seventeen to three.
But the Seahawks, they finally started getting things going. Grub
and Gino Smith in the offense marches down the field,

(03:24):
getting all the way in the red zone, but unfortunately,
disaster struck once again for the fourth time this season.
Gino Smith was intercepted in the end zone and the
Seahawks would walk away with no points. That was crucial, man.
It was because at least the very least. You're hoping
to get some points at seventeen to six, but obviously
you want to score. They had a great drive or
unable to get any points, which really hurt them there.
And then Packers would get drive points on their final

(03:44):
driver of the first half, topped up by three penalties,
including a thirty four yard pass interference henriku one. They
would settle for three points and the teams were going
to the locker room at a twenty two to three score,
but the Seahawks wouldn't get the ball coming out of
the second half.

Speaker 4 (03:56):
Yeah, you're like, all right, twenty to three. It doesn't
feel like after those first few drives. You felt like
the Seas were trying to find their groove and they
were close. So they got the ball to start the
second half and would have to punt negative plays. There's
a few drives inside of this game where there were
some negative plays. There's a sac, there's a holdingles as
a disaster. The Hawks defense would force a punt on

(04:16):
their next drive, and then disaster struck on first and
ten from the Packers twenty four yard line. Geno Smith
under pressure, guy hit low and had to leave the
game because of a knee injury.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
That kind of got me going a little bit. Yeah,
we know the rules.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
You got to hit the quarterback in the tour, so
you gotta got dive in at Gino's ankles, his needs,
whatever you want to call it, twist them up. And
for the first time I saw Genol begging for a foul.
But I go, no, this was legit. Though you see
quarterbacks beg all the time for foules. But he didn't
get it. So I'm interested to see if that player
got fined or if the NFL is going to communicate
with Mike McDonald and say, hey, we should have called
that a week consolation, but at least they would acknowledge

(04:53):
that something went wrong.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Now, no, it's a penalty. You can't low. It's pretty obvious.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
And it sucks for Gino too, because you're I understand,
and when we talk about rules, everything's protecting the quarterback,
all the things they want to protect and stuff like that.
It's quarterbacks getting knocked out for the extain amount of time.
I was a defensive player. I understand how hard is
play defense in this league. I'm not there was no
intent there, but a penalty is a penalty and we
would have taken those fifteen yards and maybe potentially gotten
better position. So then Sam Howell gets his first playing

(05:18):
time in the Seahawks uniform in the regular season, and
he got he has first play, throws a ball the JSN.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
He attacked for like a minus one yard.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
Seahawks ended up kicking a field goal, so that would
make the score twenty to six. You're still within two
possession game. Packers would answer with the field goal on
their own on the next drive that made the score
twenty three to six.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
The Seahawks would have two really.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
Rough possessions of the offense, a lot of sacks just
not very good, combining for negative six yards bump, and
then the defense will try to keep the Hawks in it.

Speaker 4 (05:47):
Yeah, Ernid Jones, he forced a fumble on Josh Jacobs
and then Jay Love right places, right time, he picks
it up. Five plays later, the Seahawks found the end
zone for the first time. We're gonna break this playdown
zax Strop and they took it twenty four yards. That
made the score twenty three to thirteen. With just over
eleven minutes left, the Packers will turn the ball over
on downs on the next drive, then things would get
worse for the Seas and Sam How was picked off

(06:09):
two plays later. If they would have scored on that drive,
I think the filling in that stadium is different, the
feeling on the sideline is different. But it's tough for
Sam How to come into this situation and you expect
him to perform at a high level.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
I know they say he should be preparing like he's
a starter.

Speaker 4 (06:25):
He is preparing like the starter, but you ain't a
starter to you win a game and you feel that.
It's a bit different when you're there and there and
guys are flying around.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
No question about it.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
I mean the Seahowks were still in the game, as
much as it felt as lopsided as it was. They
scored there and they're down three. Now we have a
football game, yep. Unfortunately they don't. To your point, Tim,
how horrible position being when you're unless you've done it,
unless you've been absolutely cold, and then have to then
get in the game, like here's the play call, Go
get the protections, get the years, Like, man, I don't
get a position to like run down. This is in basketball.

(06:54):
We can pass the ball around. I kind of feel
the game out a little bit. You're the quarterback, so
I'm not making excuses.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
It is what it is. Second guy too, man.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
Yeah, So unfortunately it didn't go well for the Seahawks. There,
Packers capitalized and turnover Jordan Love finds romy Doobs again
back the ends, one twenty two hoard touchdown that sealed
the deal, that made the score thirty two thirteen, effectively
ended the game for the Seahawks. And uh, the box
score kind of told the story of what it was,
Packers out gaining the Seahawks three sixty nine to two. Away.
Packers won time, possession, turnover, battle, rush for outrush of

(07:24):
the Seahawks one hundred and forty to eighty. And it's
it's a bummer bump because the Seahawks did have an
opportunity to make up some ground in the NFC West.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
Unfortunately they couldn't do that.

Speaker 4 (07:33):
Yeah, you had an opportunity and you didn't come through.
But something that I've been we've been saying honestly for
the last three weeks, is like you can split these
two games and be fine. I'm talking about the Vikings
and the Green May Packers. Right, We'll talk about the
Vikings in another podcast. But yeah, you gotta find the positives.
And despite the score beium thirty to thirteen and you
look at the box score three into sixty nine yards

(07:54):
to two o eight, there were some things that happened
that were positive. Obviously, got some work to do, but hey,
more games to be played.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
Yeah, no, everything is still in front of the Seahawks.
We know that, Coach McDonald said it. We'll talk about
this extensively over the next couple of weeks and shows.
The Seahawks went out right now, they're still NSUS champs.
Everything in front of them is still there. We saw
some positive things. We'll talk about the defense, how things
went so still in front of them. Still a hard
loss to swallow for the Seahawks. They were on a
run four game win streak. Unfortunately it came to an
end last night. We're broadcasting live from the Seahawks Podcast Studio,

(08:24):
presented by Sony, the official partner of the Seattle Seahawks.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
But there was some people who did make some plays.
Let's talk about it.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
Playmakers touch up, playmakers.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
Told him what time it is?

Speaker 1 (08:40):
Ho wait cat, But we're gonna start off with receivers
Jackslyn Smith and Jigba.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
He's been doing his thing.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
We've been talking taking this guy's praises for a week
after week after week. Ten receptions, eighty three yards, seventh
game in a row, he's led the Seahawks in receiving.
He's now six yard six yards shy of one thousand
yards on the season. Jason's mister consistent. He's doing his thing.
He's been there every single week. Obviously, I was hoping
he'd get to a thousand yards yesterday. I was hoping
you do all of it in a Seahawks victory. Unvirtually

(09:09):
it wasn't the case. But still loving we're seeing from JSN.
He's definitely proven who he is why we drafted him,
and he shows it each and every week.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
He's their go to guy now.

Speaker 4 (09:18):
He works the middle beautifully, the dig rolese the deep
crosses and all that good stuff on third downs.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
He's reliable. Gino was looking to get him the football.

Speaker 4 (09:25):
Watched the film today and Jasen is his first read
more times than not for a good reason because his
cash percentage has been crazy. So Jason, keep up the
good work. He'll get that thousand yards next game for sure.
Next guy up, Zach Charbonnay. Eight carries for fifty four yards,
one touchdown run, one reception for twelve yards. Not the
touches that we thought he was going to get, But

(09:47):
when you're down fourteen oh early, play calling is going
to change a little bit. But he did show you
a burst and that touchdown that we're going to break
down here later.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
It was nice to see.

Speaker 4 (09:57):
He didn't necessarily back up one hundred and thirty one
yard performers, but he showed that he can just keep
getting downhill even if he doesn't touch the ball as
often as we would like him to do.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
But as a running back, you.

Speaker 4 (10:06):
Understand if you're down and you got to score quickly,
running the ball ain't gonna do it.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
No, Zach again, when he does touch the football, especial
Las two weeks's shown what he can do. He had
another run that was less impressive in terms of numbers. Yeah,
but he got nor South kind of broke a couple
tackles in the backfield. Looked like it was going to
be negative play. He ends up pushing it for a
first down. So I love what Zach's doing. Hopefully this
game against the Vikings, the Seahawks won't get behind fourteen nothing,
they can play a little bit more balance and really
commit to that run game like we saw in Arizona.

Speaker 2 (10:33):
Put it over to the quarterback. Geno Smith.

Speaker 1 (10:35):
Statistically, you know, completion percentage wise, he did a good
had a good game. He's fifteen of nineteen hundred and
forty nine yards, was playing really well. Obviously, there's two
throws he'd want to have back. He can't turn the
ball over in the red zone. He understands that. But
he wasn't playing horribly. And the thing that really sucked
about is because we've talked about this a million times
over so far this year, where Gino has had a
bad interception, he's always come back in the third or

(10:57):
fourth quarter and either brought the Seahawks back to win
or right there in it. We just didn't get to
see that. Unfortunately, it was taken from him. So hopefully
Gino Smith gets healthy and he's raided to rock against
the Vikings. So we're definitely praying for him.

Speaker 4 (11:09):
And hope that knee, you know, gets right before that
pick man, it was like eleven four eleven one hundred
yards or something like that. He was playing a good games,
just so unforced it man. Ernest Jones has another good game,
nine tackles and one forced fumble.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
I'm gonna combine him with.

Speaker 4 (11:22):
Leonard Williams another sneaky good day, seven tackles, one TfL,
one quarterback hit. The Packers made it part of their
game plan to make sure Leonard didn't go off.

Speaker 2 (11:33):
They were a double team and the heck out of him.

Speaker 4 (11:34):
I mean, they were making my man work and he
still fill up the stat sheet a little bit.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
I was. I was proud of just how resilient he was.

Speaker 5 (11:42):
Man.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
It was a physical game for Lindle Williams.

Speaker 1 (11:44):
Yeah, and the one big play he may had a
big tackle tackle for loss in that game, and it
was because somehow there's a miscommunication, like no one blocked him.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
Not saying he would have made the play anyway.

Speaker 1 (11:54):
But yeah, I know Leonard at this point in the year,
what he's done, he's probably gonna be an All Pro
I think at least second team at the very least.

Speaker 2 (12:01):
He's a guy you circle. Dave Wyman always says, an
extra meeting guy. You're meeting guy. He's an extra meeting
guy for sure. We'll finish here with playmakers.

Speaker 1 (12:08):
Kobe Bryan just being consistent eight tackles, seven solo, a
couple of touchdown saving tackles.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
At the safety position.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
You don't want your safeties up there and tackles every
single week unless they're staying in the box one hundred
percent of the time. When they're playing in a deep half, deep,
third quarter or whatever it is. You don't want them
getting that far in tackles.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
It is what it is.

Speaker 1 (12:27):
But I love what we're seeing from them because they're
sure tackles are getting people down on the ground. Kobe
Bryan has been really good. He's been great now, really good.
So happy to see that there. But I'm Lena talk
about the receivers. It wasn't the biggest output in that room.
But what do we see on Sunday?

Speaker 2 (12:39):
All right?

Speaker 4 (12:40):
We talked about Jsn twelve targets, ten receptions, eighty three yards,
six more yards. He'll get that thousand yard season. Dk
Metcalm three targets, three receptions, twenty eight yards. I would
love to see him get more involved in this offense.
Tyler Lockett one target, one reception for twenty two him
as well, got no offense, had seven targets, three receptions
for fifteen yards. That Sharbonna had one reception for twelve,
Bubble had a big third down I believe, pick up

(13:02):
one reception eight yards, and aj Barner had one for
five as a group, one hundred and seventy three yards
eight point seven per clip along of twenty five that
belongs to JSM.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
Yeah, I love that route heated too. That was another
one he gets open, and I just thought we're gonna
see a little bit more of that. It's unfortunate, but
you gotta stay on the field. You gotta camp, get
behind the sticks, the sacks, all the plays that happened there.
But well, we've talked about it several times already. One
of the bright spots on offense was the Seahawks running
game getting going, trying to get back into this football game.
And that's when Zach Charboney took it into the end

(13:32):
zone for twenty four yards out.

Speaker 3 (13:36):
Move back to the line of scrimmage, quick count, hand
off to charbon Ay God Bluckers goes right side, turns
up field.

Speaker 2 (13:43):
Ten five touchdown Jayhawks. Well called series by Ryan Grubb
and the booth next shoor to us.

Speaker 5 (13:55):
But very well done by Sam Howe finding his receivers
and then changing up with a run right side, caught
the Packers sleeping good blockers out in front of charbon Hay,
and he scores his third touchdown in two weeks.

Speaker 4 (14:11):
A couple things happening. Here's some adjustments, man. So last
week we saw the guard tackle pool. Today or yesterday
it was the center guard pool. An adjustment they made.
They're in the two x two formation. You have to
tight end to the right side of Sam Howe. Typically
when they're running this kind of Penn and Pool type concept,
you have to tight end attached to the offensive line,
and it doesn't give him the angle to really try
to seal the edge right there. So what they do

(14:33):
is they bump him out in a traditional two by
two type of look. Therefore he has the angle on
that end and does a great job. Believe that is
aj Varner no no offense does a good job just
sealing the end. And now you got Sundale and Lalmeya
getting to the outside getting around and then a big
block over there by the wide receiver as well getting
to that second level.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
This is what they imagine when they were drawing up
this pin pool to the outside.

Speaker 4 (14:59):
I think this has to be a halftime or a
late game adjustment moving the tight end off the attachment
to the offensive line just to give them space, winding
them ups.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
He can block down and get that angle.

Speaker 4 (15:09):
The rest now is just Zach charvaday Man's showing that speed,
showing the vision in the balance on the sideline, getting
in and giving everyone and looming a little bit of hope.

Speaker 1 (15:18):
Yeah, no, absolutely, I love that we've been able to
see the wheels from Sharbonnay that he can separate from
people in the open field. And you mentioned it, that
was JSN on that block kind of cracks down anytime
you're seeing really, receivers don't get enough credit for this.
More often than not, if you see a big run
by running back, there was a block by receiver downfield
cleaning that thing up. So love to see it from JSN.

(15:38):
And we know they can do it. We've seen it
in spurts. But football is a game of you got people.
That sounds simple, but you gotta stay on schedule. You
got to be here when you're behind the sticks. When
you're not staying on the football field, it's hard to
get some of these concepts. It's hard to get to
some of these plays. But you're right. I love what
we saw from Sharbonnay. He was able to give the
Sea offf fans a little bit of hope is they
were hoping to get back in that football game. We're

(16:00):
broadcasting live from Seahawks Podcast Studio, presented by Sony, the
official partner of the Seattle Seahawks this NFL season.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
Feel every play, every hit, every.

Speaker 1 (16:08):
Moment with the Sony one thousand XM five noise canceling headphones,
the official partner of the Seattle Seahawks, and with premium
noise cancelation, you're in the zone, no distractions, just pure football.
Whether you're in your living room or on the go,
You'll never miss a beat with Sony headphones.

Speaker 2 (16:23):
Bump. We've been on a good run. Yep. It was fun.
We've been on a good run. We were down a
little bit, we were down bad, lost five or six. Yep.
It's been up and down right. We were three and zero,
lost five s. We can handle this. We've been through
a lot one four in a row. Unfortunately, Seahawks could
not get it done. The clock just ran out on me.

Speaker 3 (16:43):
Taken by They're just gonna let the clock wind down.
I'm not even gonna bother taking that last time out.

Speaker 2 (16:50):
Yeah, bump it was.

Speaker 1 (16:51):
It was one of those days and the Seahawks they
didn't have it. You know, you talked about it in baseball.
Sometimes you don't have your fastball and we don't have
your fastball. Sometimes they jump on you in the early innings.
That kind of happened in the game on Sunday. Struggled offensively,
allowing seven sacks, only getting to the end zone once,
and obviously the big story come out of the game
with Geno Smith. Yeah, completely changed the projection of where
the game was going. The plays, the offense have everything,

(17:13):
they practice, He's getting all the reps. So we were
praying he's out there next week. I want to see
a healthy Geno Smith, of course, as we had down
this stretch run.

Speaker 4 (17:20):
Yeah, I love to see Geno out there. It doesn't
sound too serious, but you never really know. Right right
after the game, Mike MacDonalds talks to the media, he's
gonna be optimistic as long as there isn't really evident
ligament damage or broken bone anything like that. But we
shall see Sam how he struggled, and that's fair man.
He was thrown out there, thrown out there with the Wolves.

(17:42):
You know, I ain't got any reps all year when
it comes to regular season play, so I didn't really
expect much out of it. If he does get the
start this week, we shall see. He'll have a full
week to prepare as if he is a starter. The
Shawks turned the ball over twice and lost time a
possession that is crucial. And then Josh Jacobs, if Derek
Henry and Saquon aren't having the year they're having, we

(18:04):
got more eyes and ears on this young man. Finished
the day with one hundred and thirty six total yards
and a touchdown in the Seahawks man, they slowed them
down to the second half, but it was that first
two to three drives that really got him going and
put points on the board.

Speaker 1 (18:21):
Yeah, he finished with ninety four rushing yards. I believe
he had seventy at the half. So the damage was
done in the first quarter. And that's the other thing.
So shout out to the Seahawks defense in the coaching
staff for making that adjustment. I think sometimes in years
pass with their defense. Recently, if we were getting gashed
with something in the first quarter, we were getting gassed
with it in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 2 (18:39):
Yeah, is what it is, so they made the adjustment.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
Unfortunately it was after the Packers had jumped up to
a fourteen doz in lead, but it was good to
see them make that second half adjustment. Hopefully they can
kind of correct the course a little bit. The last
two games we've allowed points on the first possession, so
hopefully coming up the Seahawks can kind of figure that
out and then shout out JASN. We talked about hip
team leading seventh straight game leading team receivers and Jack
Sarbagney was productive of what he had so wasn't didn't

(19:04):
go to Yak's way. But I'm hoping we can figure
it out because everything is still in front of him.
But ever, we've talked about being a playoff game every week, Well,
this Sunday's the playoff game.

Speaker 4 (19:13):
Well, you just played a playoff team in the Green
Bay Packers, right, you felt that, So now you get
to go up against the Vikings, who are who can
potentially win their division. Right, it's going crazy with the
Detroit Lions, all the injuries they have, so they have
something to play for too, so you know they're gonna
get there. You're gonna get their best shot and get
