Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
Michael Bumpus.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Playfake, go to roll right, dumps it off into the
right flat to Michael Bumpers, who bounces off of one
tackler cats inside the forty down of the thirty five
yard line.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
Powered by Seahawks dot Com.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Matt pumpfake's looking at the gold line. He throws it
into the m zone.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Touchdown Sea Hawks.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
It's Michael Bumpas.
Speaker 4 (00:21):
With a diving catching the end zone, a ten yard
touchdown reception for Bumpers, and the kid out of Washington
State has found himself a place.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
On this team.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Now here's your host, NASA Jobie.
Speaker 5 (00:34):
Welcome and welcome into another edition of Hawk Talk. Yes
talking about a Seahawks victory. Bump the Seahawks taking down
the Falcons thirty four to fourteen.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
The moon needed this.
Speaker 6 (00:44):
It's been a little bit.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
Yeah, it's been it feels like a month.
Speaker 7 (00:46):
I know, it's like we probably just hit the month,
but it feels like it's been a long time.
Speaker 5 (00:51):
It's a different feeling, man. I mean, I think maybe
that's my own energy. Maybe because I look at it
with a bat, I get naked and all that stuff,
But it's so much nicer to come in with the
fresh week, back on track, most importantly, back in first place.
Speaker 7 (01:04):
First place in the division. Baby nin er siga ls
had the Chiefs. I'm sure we'll touch on that in
a little bit, but yeah, back on top of like that.
Speaker 5 (01:10):
No, and it feels good. And for Seahawk fans out
there also, it was a nice one because we didn't sweat. Yeah,
we weren't sweating out there. We felt good about it.
The Seahawks team was in control from start to finish.
I'd love to see that Seahawks improving to eighteen and
five at those ten am starts on the road.
Speaker 6 (01:24):
But let's waste no more time. Let's get right into
that game. What it happened.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
See what happened at first, what happened was what had
happened was on Hawk Talk.
Speaker 5 (01:34):
Seahawks got things going on their first drive, going eleven
plays fifty six yards, had to settle for a field
goal after ken Walker touchdown was called back after a
questionable hole in aj burner.
Speaker 6 (01:44):
They called it, it's what it was. Seahawks had to
settle for three Ricky.
Speaker 7 (01:47):
Gonna learn all right, all right though it wasn't egregious, No,
it was agreed.
Speaker 5 (01:51):
It's as Ray was talking about it. It's tough sometimes
when you're not sure we're running back getting go, he
cuts back, you're already blocking one way. Anyway, Jason Myers
had his back. We get a little field goal and
then the next two drive would end in punts. Before
the Falcons will put together an eleven play drive going
fifty yards, but young Hoku would miss a fifty four
yard field goal. He's been pretty damn good the last
couple of years, so that was huge. The Falcons walk
(02:12):
away with no points on that drive. Then the Seahawks
would finally get into the end zone on the next drive,
going five plays fifty six yards, ending with a twenty
yard touchdown run from ken Walker, who we're gonna talk
about later. Was a g for what he did on
today was bat him through it. It was his flu game.
But that made the score ten nothing, yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
Ten zero.
Speaker 7 (02:30):
Way to bounce back and go for ken Walker to
get his touchdown back. You know, snashed away, you went
and got back the Falcons. They would answer right back
with a nice drive of their own, nine plays seventy
yards in it with a Jon Robinson five yard touchdown,
bringing a score to ten to seven.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
We knew they weren't just gonna go away. They got
some weapons over there.
Speaker 7 (02:47):
After two straight punts, the Seahawks will find the end
zone again. The Hawks got the ball with one minute
left and seven seconds remaining in the half, with no timeouts.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
Gino would lead.
Speaker 7 (02:56):
A sixth place sixty eight yard drive ending with a
dime to dk Metcalfee was a thirty one yard touchdown
between two defenders. Nice cover to Tampa. We'll touch on
that a little bit later. That made the score seventeen
to seven going in at halftime. Then the Falcons come out,
though I'm like hindsight, I can respect it, you know,
because now I'm not in the game, and I'm looking
at the Falcons and I go all right to see
(03:17):
all y'all respond. They come out and they go down
the field fourteen plays, seventy nine yards. They go forward
on fourth down, they find Drake London in the end zone.
Kurt was seven for seven on that drive. That made
it seventeen to fourteen. And you feel like you're in
a fight right now.
Speaker 5 (03:31):
Yeah, no question about it. The Falcons definitely weren't gonna
stay down for long. That was a really impressive drive.
You mentioned it, Kirk Cousins. But the Seahawks team, they're relentless.
They are, you know, at least every time this year,
anytime things have gotten closer, they've gotten down, They've been
super resilient and come right back. This was no different.
Seahawks offense would score once again right down the field.
(03:52):
As you know, Smith would connect with Ken Walker for
another touchdown, a great twenty yard reception over the show
Old He was a receiver, straight receiver, making it look
two weasy seeks go back up by ten, making the
score twenty four to fourteen. Both teams would trade punts
in the next few possessions before the Seahawks would deliver the
game ceiling blow. Kirk Cousins drop back to pass was
strip sacked by Boy Mafy and Derek Hall picked it
(04:13):
up for thirty six yard touchdown and that made to
score thirty one to fourteen.
Speaker 6 (04:17):
We'll touch on that play a little later as well.
Speaker 5 (04:18):
Bump, but I don't know if it's been fixed yet,
But if you go to ESPN dot com and even
NFL GSIS, it keeps saying that Derek called a sixty
four yard touchdown return really.
Speaker 6 (04:27):
And I go, hold on, am I tripping?
Speaker 5 (04:29):
And then I look back, I'm like, no, he picks
up the ball on the thirty six.
Speaker 6 (04:32):
Yeah, but I think they had it on the other
thirty six.
Speaker 7 (04:34):
Okay, Well, for his contract and incentive purposes, I hope
they keep it at sixty four because who knows what
his contract says. As far as you know, Yard is
on sacks and returns and whatnot, So keep it sick.
Speaker 6 (04:44):
He ran it at sixty four. I mean, I don't
get wrong.
Speaker 5 (04:46):
I'm not trying to take yards out of his you know, yeah,
contract pockets, all that stuff.
Speaker 6 (04:51):
I'm not doing that.
Speaker 5 (04:52):
I'm just saying I thought I was tripping because I'm like,
did he run sixteen?
Speaker 4 (04:55):
No?
Speaker 3 (04:55):
He definitely didn't.
Speaker 5 (04:56):
But that made to score thirty one to fourteen, bump
and it was pretty much it from then on.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (05:00):
Next two Possessions of the Falcons of wo end in
their possession to turnovers. Kirk Cousins was picked off by
Julian Love and Kobe Bryant. Happy for Julian Love, even
happier for Kobe Bryant because the start of his career
has been great. Then he kind of faded away a
little bit with injuries. Got him back on the field.
Jason Myers will also add a fifty nine yard field though,
to make the score thirty four to fourteen fifty nine.
(05:21):
They lined up and it was probably good from sixty seven,
like he had a boot on that thing. Man, it
looked good. It looked good. So I was happy for
Myers and happy for Julian and of course Kobe.
Speaker 5 (05:32):
Yeah, and another thing that's been huge for the Seahawks
recently is takeaways. Right the Seahawks, it's been hard to
come by. So they had three in the first game
and then won in the last five games.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
Yeah, that's tough. That's tough.
Speaker 6 (05:44):
So that changed on Sunday.
Speaker 5 (05:45):
Seox had not one, not two, but three takeaways, which
was great. And the Seahawks, you mentioned it, they were
without starting quarters Equel and Trey Brown, Rashon Jenkins with
tackle stone force lights. So now you're at your third
or fourth option to tackle. But it's a true next up,
next up mentally, and they everyone stepped up to the play.
Michael Darrell, Josh Joe Neam, Pritchett, Kobe Bryant, you mentioned
(06:06):
all making plays all over the field, so I was
really good to see that.
Speaker 7 (06:09):
Yeah, youngsters, man Michael Drew was interested, and everything you
keep hearing about Michael Durell is that he's extremely athletic.
Josh job can Live didn't know he was on the roster,
didn't know that the Hawks had picked him up. Glad
they did because he showed up and two nine was
out there playing.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Man.
Speaker 7 (06:25):
Come on some pass breakups. It was nice man. And
the run defense was an issue for the Seahawks. Hec
times this season. It looked like it was going to
be that problem again on Sunday. The Falcons running back
but Sean Robinson and Title Iger Are combined for one
hundred and seventeen yards on fifteen carries in the first half.
After halftime, the two matters just twenty two yards on
six carries before the Falcons had to get pass heavy
(06:46):
while chasing a double digit deficit.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
The Hawks picked up to win three in a row.
Was a lost.
Speaker 7 (06:52):
It was hard in this building for a little bit,
but they went down south got it done.
Speaker 5 (06:55):
Happy for him, No, absolutely, And I went on a
limb last week saying it was gonna look a lot better.
Speaker 6 (07:00):
You did, And I still think I'm right.
Speaker 5 (07:01):
I wasn't like one thousand percent, right, So they still
had some success in runn game, the Falcons did, yeah,
but the Seahawks shut him out in the second half,
and the Seahawks as a team ran for over one
hundred yards. Was a far cry in the Giants in
the forty nine ers game. So good to see them
getting back on track and those you know. But what
I love about this next segment is when we win,
there's a lot of play, a.
Speaker 6 (07:21):
Lot of love to go around. Playmakers, touchdown.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
Playmakers to him.
Speaker 6 (07:29):
What time it is holy.
Speaker 5 (07:34):
We'll start with our quarterback Geno Smith. Eighteen of twenty eight,
two hundred seven yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions. QB rating
of one to ten, the highest on the season. And
here's what really stuck out to me, Bump. This was
the first time that Gino was under thirty attempts since
Week one against the Broncos. Now, he's had some amazing
games and he has, I mean, he's leading the league
(07:55):
in completions and yards and all that, which I love
because he's capable of doing that. But when this team
and he's attempting twenty five to thirty passes, they're so
much better because that means there's balance in the game
and the run game house being played, house being called.
But Gino did his thing, was efficient and honestly, when
you look at that eighteen of twenty eight, it really
could have been like twenty three of twenty eight easily.
(08:16):
A couple fifty to fifty balls that weren't caught, there
was a drop in there, and a couple just different
things that happened. But he was incredibly smart with the football,
did not turn it over, was clean, and he was
under a lot of pressure. I think the stats said
he was under pressure fifty percent of the time or
something like that. Now, it didn't feel that bad and
in that sense, but he was still it was there.
But he's still so quick with his feed, stepping up
(08:38):
in the pocket, making play. So I loved it what
I saw from Gino.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
No, he looked good in the pocket. It wasn't.
Speaker 7 (08:42):
I mean, we can't expect this offensive line just to
give him the cleanest pocket every single snap. No quarterback
is dropping back and everything is beautiful at times, and
that's just football. But Gino man, his presence, the way
he moves, he operates common to chaos.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
He does look in control as usual, and you're right.
Speaker 7 (08:56):
If he's only throwing the ball twenty eight times, that
means other things are working.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
But he was throwing into this man.
Speaker 7 (09:03):
DK metcalf four receptions, ninety nine yards in one touchdown.
He did leave the game with a knee injury, so
we'll see if he's okay. That third down right before
the half, the touchdown that we're gonna go.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
Over, was a receivers type of play.
Speaker 7 (09:18):
The route was on point, the spacing was on point,
and then Gino steps up and drops a dime. That
shows the chemistry and the trust between those two. DK
has n't have himself a good season, Number two in
the NFL. Right now, I'm receiving yards.
Speaker 6 (09:30):
Yeah, he's crushing it.
Speaker 5 (09:31):
And hopefully he had a little mcl injury that coach
McDonald spoke at the pudding today. Hopefully is not super serious.
There's no timetable for his return right now, so hopefully DK.
You know, as we know DK, he's gonna do anything
he can to get back in this lineup, So hopefully
he is back against the Buffalo Bills. But good to
see DK doing his thing. Now, let's talk about the
other guy, Ken Walker. Flu game, did his thing. It
(09:52):
was his birthday, super sick leading to the game, but
it was just a gutsy performance.
Speaker 6 (09:56):
And what I loved about it.
Speaker 5 (09:57):
You know, he's got fourteen carries sixty nine yards, one touchdown,
two receptions twenty four yards in a touchdown. He's now
tied for seventh place in franchise history twenty three rushing touchdowns,
tied with Russell Wilson.
Speaker 6 (10:08):
And as I said, it was his full game.
Speaker 5 (10:10):
But anyone who's played this game in football and you're
sick and you got a flu and you don't feel
well and you're dehydrated, especially at that position, that it's
gonna be physical, you're gonna be hit on every play.
It just shows his toughness in his dedication to this
team and without that being said, to still have the
presence of mind. He made a lot of really good
cuts that again, we talked about that dynamite catch over
the shoulders, So Ken Walker doing his thing when he
didn't feel good. So good job by him, Good job
(10:32):
of the offensive line, everybody picking up.
Speaker 6 (10:33):
His teammate Ki look good.
Speaker 7 (10:34):
I know, I don't want people to panic on like
the rushing yards right has sixty something yards, but I go,
if he's scoring touchdowns, we're fine, you know. And he
still touched the ball fourteen times, so he is still
a threat in the run game. But if he's scoring touchdowns,
I will take a seventy yard game any day of
the week. That's actually pretty good, all right. Next up
Kobe Bryant Man. He got the start because Rayshawn Jenkins
(10:55):
had he headed to the ir and he played well.
He did disappoint He led the team with tackles eleven,
had an interception and a pass defendant. It's crazy. This
was his first career interception. I feel like he at
least had two. But then I remember both of those
were called back for some type of penalty.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
So if.
Speaker 6 (11:12):
Cost him for both of them.
Speaker 7 (11:13):
Hey the press, he said he's gonna hit up Puandre, Like, look, man,
I finally got one. But I was a little bit
disappointed in Kobe at first because he slid after the interception,
but then he said, I was gassed. I get it,
I get it, slide, get down. But I was happy
for Kobe Man. He's been one of my favorite players
since his rookie year. A bunch of forced fumbles when
he started this whole deal here. He might have he
(11:34):
might have got to sell some playing time this weekend
and they'll be back there with Julian Love. Julian Love
had nine tackles, one pass defenditant and one interception. Nice
to see Jay Love. Jay Love seems like he is
the official leader of this defense. You know, he's the mouthpiece.
He comes out, he talks to the press. Win, loser,
draw does not matter. He leads by example. Jay Love
had himself a good game.
Speaker 6 (11:53):
Yeah, both of them. I just love the motor they
play with.
Speaker 5 (11:55):
Right, Kobe Bryant, that was a nice change, not a
change in the sense of from racial, but just to
change in the sense of like.
Speaker 6 (12:01):
He played with his hair on fire. Yeah, he was
going to take some shots.
Speaker 5 (12:04):
He didn't make every single tackle, but his presence was
going to be felt, and he was physical, And I
just love it when you haven't had that opportunity to
prepare like you're going to start, and know you're going
to start, it's a little different. So Kobe, he's always
around the football since he'd been in this league. He's
always in the right spot making play. So good love
to see from Julian and from Kobe. Then to this
defensive line, Draymont Jones, Derek Hall. Draymont, I think this
(12:25):
was his best game by far the entire season. He
was active, two jackals, two TFLs, one sack, one pass defended,
four QB hits. He was incredibly active and that's exactly
what Mike McDonald wanted out of him, right, that's the
guy that you want. Versatile, can play most positions on
that front line. So Draymond was balling out. And then
Derek Hall. The Hall has been money all season long.
He had one tackle, one QB hit, one fumble recovery
(12:47):
obviously in the touchdown, but he had more impact on
this game than those numbers two because that pass for us.
Kirk Cousins was feeling it all game long. So Derek
called Draymond Jones, big us, huge game.
Speaker 7 (12:56):
Drey Jones man, I just remember seeing fifty five flash
in all the time. Five where's fifty five? It's flashing
across the screen. That's how you know he's getting done.
And Derek Hallman, we spoke to him this week and
he seemed confident. He seemed like he understands who he is,
how he's gotten better, and how he's going to help
this football team. And that's an example right there, this
rally to the football, good things happen, you get a
scoop and score if you are d Hall. Leonard Williams
(13:18):
is a guy that does not get enough love. And
people are talking about this defensive line and they failed
to realize.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
Is how important big Cat is.
Speaker 7 (13:25):
Man three tackles, one sack, one TfL, one quarterback hit.
Speaker 3 (13:29):
He was active all night.
Speaker 7 (13:30):
I watched some of the film when I got home
the other night, and he's just he's everywhere. He is
taking on doubles, he's splitting the double team. He's making
Kurt step up in the pocket. We know Kurt was
not the most mobile quarterback, so you get him to move,
good thing is going to happen.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
And kat Win has been doing it.
Speaker 7 (13:46):
I couldn't wait to talk about this man, Josh Joe Bigps.
You have to give me some notes on this dude.
And it's no disrespect to him. I just didn't know
much about him. And then when you start reading about him,
undrafted out of Philly, played for Bama, won SEC championship,
help win a national championship. He's got that pedigree in him.
You know that he's going to be capable of making plays.
That's what he did. Six tackles, two passes defended, and
(14:08):
he filled in for Reek Wilding and Trey Brown. Those
are two guys that this organization's trust. So for him
to go out there and have a big game paddling
it back to him.
Speaker 5 (14:16):
You can talk about next up mentality all you want,
but the guys have to come out there and actually
execute exactly. Because's a lot of positions. A lot of
players were like, well, they're backups for a reason. But
these guys came in here and there wasn't a drop
off in play. That's what I loved about it, and
that's goes right in. Our next guy, Michael Durell made
his first NFL start on the road, and first of all,
shout out because he played D two ball. I played
small college football as well Division three. So any time
(14:38):
I see any guys that didn't play D one ball,
they're balling in the NFL, I love to see it.
Speaker 6 (14:42):
But to go from the.
Speaker 5 (14:43):
Fields and the stadiums, in the training rooms and the
facilities that Michael was playing at last year, man to
win the National Football League to starting in Atlanta Mercedes
Benz against Judon one of the guys that you've watched
growing up your whole life, and now you're playing against
him in the NFL, the crowd knowing, so for him
to go out there and do his thing.
Speaker 6 (15:02):
Was he perfect? No?
Speaker 5 (15:03):
Probably not. The film probably tell you wasn't perfect. But
he did a damn good job and stood up. Gino
Smith was sacked one time, and I just love what
I saw for him. He was physical, an he's athletic.
He's an athlete. So those guys filling in, like I said,
you can have a next up mentality all you want,
but if you don't perform, it doesn't matter. These guys perform.
They did exactly what the team needed him to do,
and I just love to see it.
Speaker 7 (15:23):
He was involved with one of the bigger runs of
the game, twenty yard touchdown Ken Walker, him and Christian Haynes. Yeah,
the Rocks, the rookie right side got it done.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
Man soup. That was fun.
Speaker 7 (15:31):
Let's get to this wide receiver round out run through
some numbers real quick mentioned DK. He was four receptions
for ninety nine yards on long of thirty five. No offense.
Six weeks in a row now, No, five weeks in
a row now he's been perfect when it comes to
targets and receptions. The first two games, I think he
was like one for two and then one for three.
Then after that he's been perfect. He had four targets,
four receptions for sixty five yards. Second game in a
(15:53):
row where he's had sixty plus yards. Tyler Lockett four
cats for forty five, Ken Walker two for twenty four.
Smith then jig But three for nine, but also had
a pass a completion.
Speaker 3 (16:04):
Yes, he's a DK. Big play there. That was funny.
Speaker 7 (16:07):
I was telling one of my friends, you put a
receiver on a double pass. He is throwing the football.
He threw it in double covers. Jackson Smith and Jegg
Will was throwing that thing. Barner had won for five
and then Sharpa they had a reception as well.
Speaker 6 (16:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (16:20):
No, that's the other thing too, is like it's almost
like if you call that play, no, that ball's getting
thrown it. So if you're no doubt, if you're the
intended target, you better run down there and do your thing.
Speaker 8 (16:28):
Because hey, deg had to make a catch too. Oh boy,
you had to make a catch. I love what we
saw from DK that that was That was dope. So
speaking of DK we've alluded to it all show. One
of the biggest plays in the game was before halftime.
Speaker 5 (16:38):
The Seahawks did not have a time out, march down
the field and get a huge touchdown before the end
of the half, making the score seventeen seven.
Speaker 6 (16:45):
That's when Gino Smith locked in with DK met Calf.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
Third down in fifteen Gino from the shotgun, three man rush.
Speaker 6 (16:55):
Gino steps up.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
He's gonna throw thet K.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
He's got it. Touchdown Shayhawks. What a bullet thrown by
Jeno Smith.
Speaker 4 (17:07):
Dk Metcalf again between two defenders underneath the goalposts makes
the reception on an absolute dime from thirty one out.
Holy Catfish want to play.
Speaker 3 (17:21):
By the Hawks.
Speaker 4 (17:22):
They make it sixteen to seven, and the fans here
in Atlanta are just stunned.
Speaker 3 (17:28):
They go to that Holy Catfish.
Speaker 7 (17:29):
He know it's a big play when Raves say that,
let's set it up.
Speaker 3 (17:33):
Man. So you got Gino in the shotgun position.
Speaker 7 (17:36):
He has a tight end to the right of them
and running back to the left just for some protection purposes.
Doubt that the Falcons were gonna bring pressure in this situation,
but just in case to the right, as you know,
you have two receivers, and you got DK to the
left of them by himself. The falcons are in a
too high shell. They're gonna end up dropping into a
Tampa two.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
Look.
Speaker 7 (17:53):
That just means that Michael Lionbacker drops into the middle
of the field.
Speaker 3 (17:57):
So DK does a great job.
Speaker 7 (17:59):
He's isold, he's by himself right, and he has a post,
so he inside releases on the corner, and then at
the top of his route, he leans to the left
to widen that safety. The safety is responsible for his
deep half of the field, so anything pushing to us
outside he has to respect. DK, being a route runner,
does exactly that, leans to the left boom, then snaps it.
(18:19):
Gino does a great job stepping up inside the pocket
and delivering a good shot. Good job by the other side.
You have a corner trying to take the other safety
out the play. That safety doesn't bite too much. But
because Gino did such a great job moving that other safety,
Gino puts into a spot where only not only where
he can get it, but just the only place he
can put it. When DK catches the football, there are
(18:41):
four defenders around him that could possibly make that play.
So this just shows great chemistry great understanding of coverage
and Geno with that pocket presence and is throwing a dime.
Speaker 5 (18:51):
Yeah, it's great by everybody. That's great called by Ryan Grubb.
This great execution by Geno Smith and DK Metcalf. You
talked about stemming that safeties in that cover two look
and he doesn't get turn his hips and run over.
He takes just one step, gets too much and he
can't recover a safety. The other side can't make that play.
So that's just that's his years of practice. Hear those
guys getting after it and doing good work. So that
was another big play.
Speaker 6 (19:12):
The other big player.
Speaker 5 (19:12):
We're gonna look at us boy Mafey's strip sack of
Kirk Cousins that he picked back up and ran for
a touchdown.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
Boy A mafe isn't there at an inside rushing position.
Speaker 6 (19:22):
Robinson stays in.
Speaker 3 (19:22):
The backfield for Atlanta.
Speaker 4 (19:24):
Cousins scrambles left side, gets hit, goes down. My football
comes down, ball rolling picked up farth side, gets haul.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
Down the far side.
Speaker 4 (19:32):
Lunch, He's gonna score touchdown, say Hawks. Derek Hole on
the sack by boy A mofing, Cousins coughs it up
and Hall goes the distance.
Speaker 2 (19:46):
The second year linebacker ound of Auburn.
Speaker 4 (19:49):
He probably has a sweet full of family and friends
here watching.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
Cousins had nowhere to go with the ball.
Speaker 4 (19:57):
It's knocked away from Cousins by Boy, picked up, and
Hall takes it thirty six for the touchdown. The Seahawks
up thirty to fourteen.
Speaker 7 (20:10):
I'll start on the back game when he comes to
this man, I know the box got it done, but
the backend really held it down. You got too high
safety look as well. We just talked about the Falcons
into too high. Look the Hawks running too high. Look,
you got your Terrell Dowson drops into the middle of
the field looking to rob and he crossed or anything
like that.
Speaker 3 (20:27):
But now let's get to the box. And this was
this was fun to see.
Speaker 7 (20:31):
You have Derek Hall to the left, you have Boy
and Mafey lined up in like the three technique. You
have Byron Murphy after one. You got Dotson at at
like a foster. He's walking up, walking up, but he's
gonna show pressure. And Draymond Jones on the outside. All
these guys work together. Derek Hall firing off the football
and just bitch pressing a grown man into the backfield.
(20:52):
On the other side, you got Draymond Jones. His approach
is a little different. He give a little wiggle, try
to get you off off bounce and boom, he drives
that tackle into the backfield. Kirk Cousins has nowhere to go.
At the same time, you got boy of Mafy and
it looks like they're stunting. It looks like there's a
twist with with Boia Mafe and Bira Murphy.
Speaker 3 (21:10):
Boom. You confuse the offensive lineman there.
Speaker 7 (21:12):
And now this is all desire man, because Kirk Cousins
has to get out of the pocket. You got boy
a Mafe using a speed closing in on him, hitting
the ball out of his hand as he tries to throw.
And this is why you rally to the football. De
Hall picks it up. He's gone and guests, who throws
just enough of a block on a big old tackle.
You got a little spoon out there making sure the
(21:32):
Hall gets into the end zone.
Speaker 5 (21:34):
The thing I love about this about this play and
bump you were a high school coach.
Speaker 6 (21:39):
You've done it.
Speaker 5 (21:40):
My old high school coach, Mark Stewart is now coaching
Evert high school shoutout coach too.
Speaker 3 (21:44):
Yep.
Speaker 5 (21:45):
This is a play I feel like if I was
in high school, we will be watching the next day.
Speaker 6 (21:48):
Oh you want to talk about effort?
Speaker 3 (21:50):
Uh huh.
Speaker 5 (21:50):
Devin Witherspoon, when that ball is sack fumbled, he's in coverage,
he's about twenty yards away from the football. Great and
he just puts on another gear. And that's whether you're right.
I think this play. There's a play like this happened
a couple of weeks ago. I want to say it
was in the Red River shootout game. I feel like
a Texas receiver did the same thing. Whether you're running
down there to celebrate or not, it is effort. You
(22:12):
can't teach that. Like coaches hope that you have that
kind of effort. Either have or you don't. And the
way Spoon plays the game of football, it's at that
level one and he gets going and like you said,
that's a big offensive lineman. He gets just enough of
him because if he doesn't do that, the lineman can
push Derek call at a bounce. It's not a touchdown,
but he gets money, whether it's to celebrate or get
after it. He just sees a ball on the ground
(22:33):
and he has that INSCT and he is gone. So
that's teach tape if you're a young player out there,
and then anywhere you play, that's pee wee football, JV
varsity college, that's how you play the game of football.
That's a hell of an effort, which brings us to
our favorite formation. We didn't see it for a couple
weeks in a while, but we're back in at victory formation.
Speaker 4 (22:54):
Here comes the Seahawk offense onto the field and the
Vikings defense crunching out there knowing that one meal down
and the Seahawks are gonna wind the clock down and
win this one.
Speaker 1 (23:06):
It's the victory formation on Hawk Talk.
Speaker 5 (23:09):
Seahawks back in the win calling again with an impressed
victory or the Falcons thirty four to fourteen. The Seahawks
got an early lead and never gave it up. That's
how it's hard to underest meate how important it is
to play with the lead. It is what you can
do defensively, how you're calling the game on offense, it's
completely different then when you're down twenty points and you're
one dimensional and you're trying, you're taking chances at you
(23:29):
and stuff you wouldn't normally do. Get outside yourself. Seahawks
played with the lead, and it was really good to see.
Speaker 7 (23:34):
Could you imagine now a football game is nothing but stress,
that's all it is.
Speaker 3 (23:38):
Who can execute under stress?
Speaker 7 (23:40):
But the stress Grub has been calling plays under the
past few weeks has been crazy. I'm sure my man
was like, this feels a lot better. I'm still stressed
out because that's football, right right, make sure things are
on point. But man having the lead, he's the first
person I thought about it. I go, look how different
the game looks and feels when you're calling plays with
the lead. So big upside to gruts Man and a
lot of guys can contributed to this thing we talked about.
(24:01):
Michael Jerald got a D two football man seventh round pick.
Speaker 3 (24:04):
He contributed.
Speaker 7 (24:05):
Kobe Bryant Man, he was a Jim Thorpe Award winner
over there at Cincinnati Man, Josh Joe, an undrafted guy,
Niam Pritchett. I mean it was nice to say names
of guys that we haven't said often. I was a
bit nervous at first because you never know what you're
gonna get. But all these dudes stepped up and played well.
Then of course Gino did not turn the football over.
That was clutch.
Speaker 5 (24:24):
Yeah, next man up to these guys meant something. They
took care of business, do you know, taking care of
the football? Huge, huge, huge Seahawks running for over one
hundred yards another thing they need to see. And I
thought the defense took strides man. The run defense still
isn't perfect, but in the second half they shut it down.
Two really good backs and the Seahawks finished the day
with three takeaways.
Speaker 3 (24:42):
Bump, come on now, huge.
Speaker 6 (24:44):
Game coming up.
Speaker 5 (24:45):
We got the Buffalo Bills come in and this week
we will come back with a preview edition of Hawk Talk.
Speaker 1 (24:50):
Bump.
Speaker 6 (24:51):
How we fiilm about the Bills early.
Speaker 7 (24:52):
Previews and hey, Bill's they do have Amari Cooper. Now
Josh Allen has a number one weapon. He has not
turned the football over in the past game I think
fumbled a football. But he looks good to start the season.
He was a favorite to win MVP. They stumbled a bit,
but they have a good culture, good foundation over there.
Speaker 3 (25:06):
It's gonna be a tough one.
Speaker 5 (25:07):
Yeah, we'll break it all down on Thursday about this
preview of the Buffalo Bills. They lead the league and
turnover differential number one. So we'll see how that goes.
He's Michael Bumps on NASA Chow. We remember to rate
us on Apple Podcast. You can watch us on YouTube
under Seahawks Press Pass channel. It's been fun, bumb I
love talking about a victory. It's a lot better again.
Do it again next week. Yeah, we'll get you ready
(25:27):
for the Bills on Thursday and then the Seahawks taking
on the Bills back at Lewinfield this Sunday at one
oh five.
Speaker 6 (25:33):
It's been another edition Hawk Talk. Thanks for listening.
